Good morning to all!

I was so busy yesterday, I didn't have time to post. There was also an ugly incident at work when a group of ladies pulled a sort of "intervention," sitting me down to tell me how horrible the Atkins diet was and how I was going to do some permanent harm to my body by staying on it. The hilarious thing was that one of them was munching on M&M's and another on Pringles while they were updating me on the perils of the low-carb diet!!! But knowledge is power, and I was able to hold my own and I even thing I made a convert out of one of them!

All is well here in the southwest, and I hope everyone out there has a fabulous day!

Spedmom that's hilarious! I can see it now, "you're gonna kill yourself with all that high fat food"...where's my bowl of trans fat hmmmm tastes sooo good. Some people just don't realize how contradictory they can be. My friend who had weight loss surgery gave me the same lecture, "you really shouldn't do such a dangerous thing to lose weight hun," need I say more? And she has to eat low carb too!

And the car update, lower intact manifold crack, heater core rupture and they haven't even found why my ABS light keeps coming on. But I have a new favorite word today warranty, all covered and my salesman is bending over right backwards making sure I'm happy, after all I've had the darn thing only a year! He's going to hurt himself but it's amazing to see someone touch their heels with the back of their head, wow! :D So things are looking up, even have a courtesy car but df doesn't fit in it very well, it's a bit too small for him being over 6ft and all. But it's nothing a shoe horn and some butter can't fix.

Good day ladies,

Hehehe!! My coworkers told me I was going to have sky-high cholesterol, then a stroke or a heart attack... One even went into the details of the heart surgery her boyfriend had.

But both love French fries, go figure. ;)

01-21-2004, 09:39 AM
I love the story! My sis-in-law told me the same thing! I figure I'm eating healthier so what's the big deal? um--now I just have to exercise more. lol. My car cost $375 to fix :( the timing belt broke. ugh@mechanics. Wish I knew how to fix things myself-would save me money!! oh-and they kindly pointed out the leak in the radiator (they wanted another $370 to fix that)-but told them it's been there for over a year and it can stay that way for now. lol I'm back to having to watch what I eat very carefully. I'm thinking somehow the extra cauliflower or something is making me go over the 2 (or 3) cups of allowable veggies. I figured if I measured I'd make sure :)

You all have a great day :)

OMG that is so funny....I just had my first Atkins attack this past weekend too and was thinking of all of you.

We went out on Friday night to this club we belong to...nothing American Legion....and there is this one lady I know very well and she is sitting a little farther down the bar and yells out "Jane how is Mr. Atkins?" I jokingly responded "well he is dead but the diet is doing great" :s: She then tells me "I talked to my daughter and she said you have to get off that diet, it shuts down all your organs and everything.....she's a nurse you know". (as this nurses mother sits and smokes like a chimney) I just told her that was not true and waved her off. I think she was a little pissed but when I saw her in the ladies room later I just pretended like nothing ever happened.

I actually felt like I had been christened into the Atkins family!

Morning Ladies :)

Well, I'm glad at least everyone's cars are going to be up and running! It's not easy being without a car these days (I know, I was without one for almost 2 years...although I did get A LOT more exercise then).

 Sped...a diet intervention! They probably wouldn't be sharing this "concern" if you weren't doing well on Atkins. For some odd reason, people feel threatened when someone else is succeeding...Perhaps it makes them feel more like failures?

I'm a tad pissed off this a.m. My significant other had neck surgery a month ago and gave up smoking so his neck would fuse. I decided I'd bring lunch to work and guess what I found in my lunch box? You guessed it, a pack of smokes. (shaking head) Of course, I'm disappointed, but I do understand how hard habits are to break....but I'm pissed because I was lied to!! I just threw the cigs in the toilet and threw the box away. I'm not planning on even mentioning it *LOL* He'll know when he goes for that forbidden smoke.

Y'all have a great day!!

01-21-2004, 10:47 AM
Good Morning everyone!!!

Nothing exciting going on with my day. I actually have tons more things I could be doing at home rather than sitting here at work being bored!! Oh, well, enough self pity. I've finally decided to accept that I'm in OWL. I tried and tried to stay on induction, but I just needed a change of pace. I purchased some berries (strawberry, blueberry, & raspberries) this weekend along with a can of mixed nuts!! I seem to have kept it under control, but on those days when you just HAVE to have a snack, those almonds sure are nice!!!

Anyway, hope everyone is having a great day!!

01-21-2004, 10:53 AM
HI Ladies,
I just wanted to drop you a quick line to say I hope all of you have a great LC day!
Sorry about the broken cars, Hee heee heeee the diet intervention ( tell em' they shoudl research before they speak) and Liz set up a camera so we can see his face when he finds out you found his smokes!! PRICELESS!! That'll amke you feel better! LOL

I will talk more when I get home, off to drop Toad off for his neuter and go to work!!

Theo's Girl!

PS Jina I am having quiche for lunch!! :)

01-21-2004, 11:03 AM
Just wanted to pop in for a quick hi! I have a 7:00 meeting so I came into work at 6:00 this morning - ugh! My last meeting today ends at 5:00. It's gonna be a long day!

I even got fully-leaded coffee this morning! :yikes:

01-21-2004, 11:57 AM
yeah, thats too funny, a diet intervention. yeah right!!! Next they will be escorting you to a 12 step program for Atkins addicts!!! "hello my name is..." too wierd that they were also munching on mm's and chips. Everyone does seem to have an opinion about it don't they? My dr. at my last physical exam, couldn't believe how low my cholesteral was when I told her I often eat 2 eggs per day and a fry up. A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous.

Theo's girl.......Hope Toad's surgery goes well and he's home before you know it.

StarPrincess........good luck with your marathon meetings today. Hope you have some high protein snacks to maintain your nodding off !!!

I'm off to the school now to have lunch with the boys. My 5yo was a little nervous to be passing out his birthday invitations to a couple of his classmates. Said he needed his Mom to help superMom to the rescue!!! He looks so cute now, he lost one of his front teeth 2 days ago, and now the one beside it is loose. But its dropped down on an angle and juts out over his lip. We call his "gappy gums" or "snaggle tooth". He really looks funny!! ahh, the joys of growing up!!! Last night I made some porkchops coated with crushed porkrinds...and OMG!!! I was sooo surprized at how good they were!! I was a disbeliever....YEAH!!! , I'm going to have left overs for lunch!!! Have a great day!!

01-21-2004, 12:18 PM
Ok, back for a few minutes while I'm trying to run a report for my 10:00 meeting.

Ohhhhhhh happy, hyper StarPrincess here!!! Since I don't really drink anything more caffienated than green tea, that french roast I had this morning has really hit. I'm flying! AND to make me that much more "up", I just got informed that the co-worker I like the least gave her notice yesterday. Yippee!!!! :cb:

LOL @ intervention! The people I know don't try that crap since they know better, but there have been many times I've gotten lectures from strangers in the grocery store. Either from shoppers who see me checking out the low carb stuff, the sample people who notice I refuse to eat starch or sugar, or the checkout people who notice I just bought 3 packages of bacon. I tend to start cracking up, mumble something about poor, misinformed souls, and the wander away swaying my pilates/bellydance-toned hips as sweetly as possible.

01-21-2004, 12:28 PM
Hi all.
I'm brand new to the site and to Atkins. I started yesterday. This is my first ever real diet and I'd like to lose about 40-50 lbs. I'm 25 and am a high school teacher. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

01-21-2004, 12:52 PM
Welcome Shimma!

I forgot to add earlier that DH and I got in a fight last night over the State of the Union address. We both know better than to discuss politics, but he kept pressing the issue and then got mad because I didn't agree with him. He was at work and yelling at me - not because he was mad at me, but because he felt pretty strongly about what he was saying. I told him to stop yelling or I would hang up. He kept yelling so I said "ok, I'm hanging up! I love you - bye" and hung up! Ohhhhhhh, he was pissed!

After an hour he called back to apologize for being a dorkwad and insisting on trying to debate politics with me when he know I won't do it. :s:

Boys

01-21-2004, 01:21 PM
All I can say is how funny it is friends and family have the hardest time when we lose the weight. They are always the first to say you seemed to be putting the weight on, the the first to say that diet your on is not the one for you. To funny. It is so great to have others to talk to, that like you just the way you are, and are happy for each successs you have. thanks to all for being there.. and to Shimma welcome.. I also am just starting my low carbing.. But loving it.. I have more energy than I can say. And for the frist time I feel full. I was so used to feeling hungry I can't tell you how wonderful it is to feel full..Thanks to all again..

01-21-2004, 01:24 PM
Welcome, Shimma! :)

You've picked the right place to be. The girls here (are there any men?) are wonderful, funny and supportive. You're gonna love it!

Star - My other half and I did the same thing last night! I just gave him a peck on the cheek and said g'night. :s: Leaving him to sit and stew.

01-21-2004, 01:27 PM
 Lizzy! DH and I agree long ago not to discuss religion or politics because he gets too worked up about it. And then I get ambivilant about it all and it just makes things worse.

I have a tendancy to get completely unresponsive when people get all worked up and it really pisses them off :s:

01-21-2004, 01:29 PM
Thanks for all of the welcoming messages!!!!

Hello My Ladies...

I just have one thing to say to you all today. Go out and buy the JOSH GROBAN CD>. He is soooooooooo heavenly.. he's better than ice cream, donuts, cinnabon, and homemade bread..

I just layed there on the couch and was in a josh groban induced high..

(He He about the intervention... should have asked them what they recommended.. would that be the pringle/M&M WOE??) :dizzy:

Glad to hear everyone is feeling better, and so are their cars.. Welcome to Shimma..I'm 23 so we are both gen x'ers!! (I think thats what they call our age..

:s: Haha I love that smiley..

Star... good for you and the hanging up.. for some reason men hate that.. my tony too!! They dont like to think they lost control for one minute (not that they ever had it..we just let them think that for a good laugh) :smug:

It sure seems like alot of unheathy people like to spout off some advice that they know..cause they heard it from some where.. and dont give me the my mom is a nurse.. MY MOM IS A NURSE TOO!! She loves atkins..:) ;) So they can put that in their pipe and smoke it... (Everyone but your hubby Bizzy!!)

Have a great day beauties....thats all for this public service announcement on Josh Groban....

:df: :df:

Help!! Ugh!!! I have eaten almonds and macadamia nuts today around 10 and then lunch (chicken w/cheese and bacon) and I feel soo ugh! It feel like I've binged on potato chips!! I think I overdid the nuts not being used to them. I've been on induction for about 3-4 weeks. I feel terrible!

I think it has to do with my cycle too...I just want to eat everything. Mind you, luckily it's not chocolate and chips like I used to. But I'm totally full and still mentally want more nuts and strawberries with cool whip (mmmmm)!!

I need a little pep talk I think!
Go Lori! :cheer: You can do it! :cheer: Go Lori! :cheer: Fight the Cravings!

01-21-2004, 03:29 PM
Ugh....tummy trouble today. I think the last few days finally took a toll on my body and my stomach is paying the price. I had to go to lunch with the group from work and in the restaurant I thought I wasn't going to make it. I may skip out of work a little early today if I can and go home and rest....hubby has a meeting tonight so I will be by myself.

Thanks again for everyone's wonderful concern yesterday. You really helped me feel better. When I got home last night there were 2 dozen red roses waiting for me from my husband. He said that he wanted to do this because I was so sad and he wanted to do something special to make me feel better......nothing like 2 doz. roses to pick a girl up :D

LoriAS: I feel for you.....:( oh my stomach.........It is just the cravings remember. You can get past this. Watch the nuts though, not too many.

Ella Shay: I don't think I had the chance to say hello and welcome you yesterday with my delema going on and all. Welcome! You will love it here.

Shimma & BizzyLizzy: Welcome to you too. Boy we have a lot of new people. Nice to have more people to chat with.

Everyone else

01-21-2004, 07:20 PM
G'day everyone!

Welcome Shimma! Just checked your profile, and our birthdays are sooo close!

Jane: I'm glad your feeling better today...I read your post yeserday, but just didn't get a chance to respond. I hope everything works out! And roses are nice. :)

Ella: I've actually never heard of Josh Groban (is this a bad thing?)...I'm intrigued now, considering your endorsement of him...

Star: I get ambivalent about topics if the argument just seems never ending. I usually debate for awhile, but then at some point I just decided to agree to disagree, or I get all quiet and arrogantly think "Well, eventually, they will see that I am right. Then they can come grovelling back to me..." Ha...just kidding... :) And yay for least-favourite co-worker leaving! Ahh...bring on the pleasant times!

I love the intervention comments! Hilarious. The image of the ladies with the M&Ms and pringles is too beautiful. I, myself, take the cowardly way out and just don't say anything about what I'm eating. Unless someone asks directly, which is rare.

And hi to everyone else...I apologize for not having a chance to respond to everyone...that's what happens when you don't get to log on until the end of the day - the day's chat gets sooo long. But that's a good thing!

For me, work was work today. Nothing too exciting - a supervisor meeting and a tutorial to run and now, time to head home!

Talk to you all later, Julie

01-22-2004, 12:11 AM
Good evening chicks!

Glad to hear everyone is doing pretty well (except the tummy trouble people, hope you feel better soon!)
Toad is safely back at home after his neuter and microchip, he acts like nothing ever happened! That's the good thing of getting them neutered EARLY!!

Training is going good so far, they keep it pretty lively so that is good and they pay you well while you do it si you don't feel like it is a waste of time!! You lucky bums out there on the west side have the greatest feature of cable we played with today called ON DEMAND, Man I can't wait until the upgrade it into NE. You can watch all the Sex In The City shows (and tons of other shows and movies) you missed, pause them ,rewind, stop, FF just like a VCR but without one and its FREE!!! Dang it the westside always gets that cool stuff first! Lucky bums!!

Well I will check in tomorrow!!!

01-22-2004, 02:00 AM
I think I've figured out that I need to start posting early in the AM instead of at night... I always come in on the tail end of the conversation.

I went to a full-day training for work today, have another one tomorrow. We have a bunch of lo-carbers at my office, so they're all very supportive. It was tough after lunch today- Day 3 for me- everyone was eating brownies at the break. I didn't have anything to eat until nearly 8PM, and I was about to sell my soul for some potatoes.

I did OK, though- went out and ate like a good girl, no cheating. I don't even feel a big urge to have my jello tonight, but I'll eat it anyway in a bit. My DH says he feels pretty good today too... isn't having the withdrawls that I am. I had a killer headache last night, and was out of Tylenol PM.

I can't wait until induction is over so I can add some variety to my diet. Do most of you stay at the 20 carb level all the time? Or do you go up a bit? And when should I start using the ketosis strips?

Star- that was great about the neighbor's ex- nothing better than showing them up!
