GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our
MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there's 2 of them to read today-both very good:)

NOURISHED BY CHALLENGE

The value of an ambitious goal is not measured by what it will bring to you. The worth of a goal is measured by what it will make of you in the process of following and attaining it.

An outrageous and impractical goal can be just as valuable as a prudent and pragmatic one. What matters is not how realistic or practical your objective may be, but how much it compels you to push beyond your limitations.

There are stunningly brilliant possibilities for your life that you've never even imagined. Set yourself on a meaningful and ambitious course, and the best of those possibilities will begin snapping into focus.

It pays to dream big dreams. And it certainly pays to follow the biggest and most ambitious of them. For the biggest dreams will put you face to face with the biggest challenges. And those challenges, difficult as they may be, will nourish you in ways that nothing else can.

-- Ralph Marston
*******************

WHAT KIND OF LIFE

Tere's a clear and simple question that can quickly put things in perspective. How do you want your life to be?

When faced with a major or minor decision, when choosing among the available alternatives, it pays to keep this in mind. The choices you make, minute by minute, day by day, largely determine the life you live.

Yes, many things are beyond your control. Yet even with those things beyond your control you can choose how to live within their framework. And your choices can make all the difference in the world. So how do you want your life to be?

Are you moving in that direction with the choices you make in each moment? Or are you ignoring your own power to choose and counting on some stroke of incredible luck to rescue you?

Your life can be whatever you imagine. Just make the choices that will take you there.

-- Ralph Marston

Have a wonderful day, and a fabulous week!!!!!

Newbie in Colorado

Hi, I'm new and am looking for a couple of buddies for support. I started Quote:
The New Sugar Busters

way of living this morning. I'm 46, 5'7, and currently weigh 190, but would like to be about 135. My cholestrol and triglycerides are way up there.
I just finished reading Sugar Busters, and am now startingQuote:
The South Beach Diet

book to see if there is anything I might be able to use out of it.
The reason I decided to do this is because I get disgusted everytime I look in the mirror. I have four big containers full of beautiful clothes that I haven't been able to wear in over 19 years. I know, because that's how old my daughter is.

Good Morning everyone!

Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a Happy MLK day and MONDAY! I hate Mondays. Well, I'm off to New Orleans to do my bloodwork so I'll check back in later!

Posts: 1 Need a 1-on-1 Pen Pal

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a pen pal that I can regularly exchange emails with to share support, menu's, weigh-in's, etc. I'd love to be able to post here often, but my job does not permit much extra time. Email is much more do-able for me.

A little about me - I'm 5'4", 32 years old, single mom to my 2-year old son, I work full time and have been overweight most of my adult life. I currently weigh 255 and have been on most diets known to woman. I'm sure the majority here can probably relate. Most recently, I've tried Atkins (lost 35 lbs and gained it all back and then some), low fat (a la Susan Powter), Weight Watchers and Fat Flush.

This past August, I was diagnosed with diabetes type II. My doctor pleaded with me to lose weight, and I tried to do Atkins again but couldn't stick with it. Needless to say she is not happy. Based on my bad eating habits and sedentary lifestyle, she's afraid that if I don't get control of my weight and blood sugar now that things will slide downhill quickly and I will die young. I've been searching for a way to take control of my life ever since my diagnosis and I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to count or weigh or deprive myself anymore. I've read Sugarbusters and it seems like more of a liveable plan for me. I'll be starting tomorrow 1-16-04.

As far as weight goals, I don't really have one. I would like to shrink my size 24 down to a size 10 though!

Anyone out there willing to be my online friend? I promise I'll stay in touch!

Edited to say, please PM me if you're interested.

Good Monday Morning Everyone:wave:

Kids are asleep so I have the computer to myself and can take some time to get in a much needed and overdue post.

Things are going to be hectic this week for me, no doubt. LAUREN'S party is Thursday night - I really haven't done that much for it as she's doing much of the planning, but my job is running here and there finding things that she's requested. Yesterday we found her a dress at JCPenneys. It's a floor length dress, prom-like-thank goodness it was on sale, orig. $100 for $54 tax included, not bad, but still a chunk of change. Got her shoes but she can't walk in them so back they go and then we have to find a different pair - that's going to be a challenge. Got her cameras for the tables - luckily found those on sale for $2.88, with the flash. Still have to get some table decorations, etc. etc.

I guess with there being no school today I will be running as soon as she gets up, joy oh joy:rolleyes: I'd rather stay home and relax after running through two malls yesterday - one being Sawgrass, the largest outlet mall.

My butt will be glued to the couch tonight to watch AMERICAN IDOL and than that new wedding one - I can't believe that they couldn't come up with a better name than my FAT OBNOXIOUS... Everytime I see the commercial of the guy dancing in his underwear I have to laugh - that could be ELI'S backside:rolf:

Okay, my eating went down hill one of the days last week, have to think about when it was because the sugar has fogged my brain!:eek: Like a friggin lunatic I was - I don't know why I keep doing this and how I'm going to break out of doing this over and over - I'm getting heavier and heavier. Yesterday when I saw myself in a full length mirror I just about died, I could really SEE the damage I'm doing. My mine is determined to get back on track today. I have to, I'm not doing myself any good, nor the board. When I'm not able to be OP as I should I don't feel like I have any right to tell others that they should. I don't like having the "do as I say, not as I do" attitude when it should be "do as I say and do as I do" because I should be setting an example, not breaking it down.

For me, it's SAME S:censored: DIFFERENT YEAR (or month). This is my life, I gain and lose the same pounds over and over. I'll do it again, and I will gain again-it's MY pattern, but as I've said before, at least when I gain, I never gain back all the weight I've lost, though I sure seem to be coming close to it - nothing fits me and I won't step on the scale in fear.

Okay, enough of my never ending struggles and confessions, new day, new week, new attitude:)

I wasn't able to get much on Ebay this weekend, of course, MICHAEL and his love affair with the computer keeps me from doing so. I am having to concentrate posting on the board during the week and quick hellos on the weekend. Between the kids being on the computer, and me trying to get stuff up for sale on Ebay sometimes in between those lapses when they aren't on, not to mention Sat. being garage sale day, running LAUREN to the library around Noon every Sat. for her new community service project, ELI usually being off on Sunday and me being gone with him all day, and everything else in between on those 2 days which I thought were for people to relax - I'm hoping that you all understand if I don't show up on the weekends as I wish I could. Then, come Monday, all those fantastic people who have kept up with the board over the weekend and have posted all those wonderful posts, I just get so far behind that come Monday, I need to start anew and sometimes I can't reply to everyone that's posted since my last post - feel awful, but I just can't otherwise I'd NEVER get in a post. I waiver between walking and posting as sometimes I can't do both and again, the guilt sets in. Some days I think the board is more needed than the walk, but then I think it's more of an excuse not to walk. I think I better stop running my mouth - time to try and get in some replies - but I hope you all understand what I was saying:^:

http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign1.jpg Wanted to welcome all the new board members! Glad you've decided to join us. I'm not ALWAYS so disconnected from the board, just as of late, but I hope the gals on the board have been picking up the slack and answering all your questions as well as giving you a warm welcome:D I look forward to getting know you better and know more about you as well:)

SUZY, WASH U is sending MICHAEL out to ST. LOUIS, so far, that's the only one. He's hoping, come end of March and beginning of April to find the postman bringing thick envelopes from the colleges he's applied to. Thanks for the offer to help guide us on what he'd need - I'll need it no matter where he goes if it's other than FL or CA - 10 of the colleges are up north with the most southern being Duke in NC.

MONET, glad to see you back - sorry to hear about the vertigo - what exactly causes this to happen to people? ELI had it once and thankfully, it hasn't occured again, but still don't quite understand about what causes it and why it would just show up as it did.

Okay, I'm not going to be able to go through all the posts - my sister keeps I/Ming me, I hear LAUREN stirring (can't believe THAT, OMG, MICHAEL just got up!) Can't believe it, MICHAEL up, before Noon? Geez, I can't get a minute to myself these days! :rolleyes:

HI TO EVERYONE!!:wave:
Well, I'll try to hop on later today. Going to go to the kitchen and try to clean up the mess MICHAEL is continuously leaving me on a daily basis - what does he think he's going to do in college???????????:?:

Good Monday morning,
Hope everyone had a good weekend and is rady to battle the week ahead with great determination. I had a great weekend eating wise. So glad to see Deb's poll and I could answer with a good number. I only marked 6 days, as DH order onion rings when we went out for soup and salad on Sat. I had 3-4 of those, but that was my only indiscretion for the whole week. No wine, no cheats. I was so proud of myself I told DH we didn't need the onion rings,but then dd and SIL showed up so he got them. Didn't do much all weekend. Took something back to the store, had lunch and vegged out on the couch the whole day and night. That is not like me. Sunday we ran some erransd, got a good walk in (that made 5 days last week), then went with Dh to work the concession stand at church for 5 hours.

I have to go for a nerve conduction test in my legs and feet this morning. Always something.

Fruit, hope the blood work is good.

Deb, Lauren's party is on Thursday? I'm sure everything will come together one way or the other. Don't beat yourself up about your eating. You are only human. We all have been there. You will get yourself backon track and shed those extra pounds in no time. Sorry I missed your call Sat.

I'm off to read the boards from over the weekend. Obviously, we didn't get the computer hooked up. Will do that tonight.

Have a great day.

Jackie

Good Monday morning to you all:

I was still at 122# this morning, and want to see those 2#'s gone. I did get to the gym early since DH didn't have to be to work early. I will go Wed. a.m. too, and then hopefully one other day this week and Saturday. My eating has not been 100% OP at all; I keep allowing little "illegal" cheats or far too much of the legal foods to enter my mouth, and I need to get back on track.

My DS is doing well, and has lost a little over 9#'s in two weeks. She says she is feeling better than ever, and isn't having those sugar highs/lows/crashes that she used to have all the time. She sounds determined and I think she will do well with this.

Alright...on to another personal confession. When I was preg with Lane, I was treating myself to an hour long massage once a month. Within two months of having her, within one week of getting a massage, I noticed a sore on my nose that proceeded to get worse. I thought I may have been bitten by a spider in my sleep. I lasted for awhile, and I finally went to the doctor. To make a long story short, I had it cultured at the dr's office, and it turned out to be a cold sore....yes, a cold sore on my nose. Since I am a stay-at-home mom, I am not shaking hands with people. The only thing that the doctor could think of is that the massage therapist had a cold sore and touched it prior to massaging my face, or never changed the towel on the donut part of the table. I am telling you this because I am really upset about it since I now get these every 2-6 months, and it is so embarrassing. I get this huge cold sore on the front of my nose, the very focal point of my face, and I don't know what to do about it. I wish I could prove the massage therapist is at fault because this is something I would definately sue over. I have never had a cold sore in my life, and am so ultra careful about stuff like that. Anyway...if anyone has any tried & true remedies for cold sores, please pass them on.

heart: Sometimes I think haing no friends is better than having a friend like that. I can't believe what she said about Boogie; although trying to be compassionate, she didn't think about her words before spitting them out. And talking to a mom about a funeral for a child who is not even dying....gosh, how awful! Hope Boogie is feeling better; we are getting better here. I couldn't agree with you more on the cloning. I could go on and on about this, but won't. I think sciece goes a bit too far these days, and the money and time could be spent on curing diseases and such. This is "that" make-up; it is called Bare Minerals and you just brush it on with a blush brush and it looks great and is very light.

fruit: My PS did do the revision for no charge. He & the Anesthesiologist did not charge me, but the hospital did and it wasn't cheap. He did do lipo after the original surgery, but did not during the revision. I will never forget the pain when those drainage tubes were pulled. I used to love to drink White Russians; I haven't had one in years.

BOB: I have heard a lot about the positive benefits of cranberry juice.

chrisd: Still, that's a lot of push-ups, even if on your knees.

Teensy: I usually get my Agave at Whole Foods for $3.99 for an 8-ounce. That is a pretty good price, but they are often out of it. That is why I ordered it on line, oz for oz, it is the same price, since you get a 12-oz bottle on that site (averages about 50 cents per oz).

Deb: Glad you found a dress for Lauren; I am sure the party will be fantastic. Good luck to Michael; he must be nervous. Can't wait to see Big Fat Obnoxious Wedding tonight; it looks pretty funny. Good luck getting back OP; you know you need to and you know how to do it. Don't beat yourself up over it, just kick your butt back in gear. Don't ever put us in place of your walk; we'd rather see you get your walk in. Don't ever feel guilty about not getting on; we know you have a life (unlike some of us ;) ).

Mountain: Congrats on the 6#'s; keep up the great work.

Monet: We missed you! So sorry you are having such a time with your health/weight/meds. I hope the doctors eventually get it all figured out for you.

Bunnababy: Welcome aboard. Good luck. SB is not low-carb; just low sugar and limited starchy carbs. YOu have so much more freedom with SB than you do on ATkins. The second book really explains the plan in much more detail than the first. After you read it, please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Suzy: Glad you enjoyed your night out; even though it was COLD!

Melf: Glad the party went well; so nice when you can pull off a surprise.

PaminCo: Welcome. I think whether you choose SB or Sobe, that you will be on the right track to get your health back on course. AFter you are finished reading the books, please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Changingweighs: I cannot commit to being a personal pen-pal, but wanted to welcome you, and tell you that I hope you find someone who will be willing to commit to this for you. Best of luck to you, and feel free to pop in anytime for any additional motivation/support.

Jack-K: Good job being OP all week; I wish I can say that same...maybe next week. Good luck with your tests today.

I ordered some pilates dvd's as well as some beach body videos (slim in 6) that I s/b receiving soon. I need to workout at home on days that I can't get to the gym.

Well, I have written a novel, so I better run.

Take care,
Nat

Good morning..well almost afternoon. Just wanted to say a quick hello. Eating was pretty good over the weekend..>I guess I cant complain. The only thing bad I did was eat way too much pasta (WW of course)last night...It was just so good. I made a really good meat sauce with pork..sausage and meatballs....so that did it. I have to tell you how excited that I am. I went grocery shopping this morning and...I dont know if you all know this or not but Thomas' just came out with 2 new bagels..called "carb counting"...well one is white and the other is whole wheat...so of course just because it says whole wheat doesnt mean its legal whole wheat...so I looked at the ingredients and YESSSSSS its made with whole wheat flour. im so excited...bagels are one of my many weaknesses. Im only gonna have them once or twice a week...but I have to say Im psyched...can you tell?? :) They are a bit expensive but worth it...well I cant say worth it yet, because I havent tried them yet...Im gonna do that when Im done posting. Hope everyone had a great weekend. I have to make phone calls...my hot water heater went on friday...so I havent had hot water all weekend...thank God my sister lives right next door...thats where we have been showering.

DEB - SNAP OUT OF IT....( A quote from CHER) lol ...I was there for two weeks over the holidays so I know..and so do the rest of us...how hard it is. But you will do it...you know you have to and you will. We are here for your support just like you are for us. Sorry I missed your call...it was a crazy weekend. You need to program my cell in your cell. :) Oh and I will be watching the exact 2 shows you will be watching...I love watching the tryouts...its the best part of the show. lol

JACKIE - Good luck with your test! Does it ever end?

Morning all!

I signed up for the new subscription service yesterday and I must say I'm very happy with it. $15.00 gets you six months of ad-free access to the forums and I must say that without the ads the pages load a lot faster!

It's fairly quiet here and most everyone has the day off. That means most of my clients aren't working so it's almost like a holiday for me. I'm trying to catch up on some bookkeeping and laundry.

Nat--Sorry, I can't help you with the cold sores. My aunt used to drink buttermilk for them but I have no idea what that is supposed to do. I can sympathize with you because I have a big 'ol growth between my nose and upper lip. I don't know if it is a wart or a mole (looks more like a wart). I can't get into a dermatologist until the first week in March. I know how you feel!

Jackie--Sounds like you have a good week last week--SB wise. I did 5 days because I was a little off over the weekend, but am back on track today.

Deb--Hang in there--do we need to come down there and put you in the detox dungeon???? Speaking of which there is a slim chance I'll be in Miami for a conference in April. If it works out I'd love to see you. I should know more by the end of Feb, first of March.

Got to go get my clothes out of the washer!

Have a great OP day everyone!

NAT - we were posting at the same time...not sure if this will help but heres a good website that sometimes has good remedies. I really dont think there is much you can do for a cold sore...all I know is they are VERY contagious....keep your hands as clean as you can.

Good morning to everyone, and the newbies, too. Changingweighs--Most of us use this forum as a type of e-mail. That way we can get support from more than one person. I hope you find a personal pal, though.

I've been sick. Don't know what I have. I had what I call a stomach ache, but it was low, like where you get mentrual cramps. But it definitely is not that!! In fact it feels just like cramps with a period. I had this Friday afternoon, and then it went away but came back Sat. afternoon, along with a slight fever and aches all over. I figured it was a virus, but everything has gone away except for the "stomach ache". I'm going in to the dr. this afternoon, as he wants to make sure it is not some UTI.

I was legal for only 5 days--yesterday I had chicken noodle soup--Jewish penicillin to make me feel better (it didn't), and then, of course, my "celebration" dinner (not really celebrating anything in particular) on Friday night. But otherwise, I have been perfect.

Monet, I hope you are feeling better. We've missed you.

Stop stressing about the board. We all understand life get's hectic sometimes and you are only one person and you have kids so you have to take care of yourself and your family. Excersizing is more important then posting! And it's supposed to make you feel better so go do it!

I have never heard of a cold sore on any part of the face but the mouth. How odd.

Hi From CHILLY LA!

Scale still down. Eating OP. Stressful morning here but did not give in to it. Problems with DD & her idiot BF. Didn't get breakfast or even coffee. That's very unusual for me. Had lg green salad with tuna & ranch dsg for lunch. Think I'll go fix me a cup of hot herbal lemon tea to warm up & calm down.

Need to go grocery shopping but not up to it. Think I'll go work on GS's scrapbook. Making progress with it. Have been working on it into the night the past few nights, not able to get to sleep.

Want to say welcome to all the newbies & to all those that are feeling under the weather, take care!

Here's something I came across that I thought might be good for MM. It's from daily Morning Stretch - the newsletter from Fit Forever! Daily tips and inspirational quotes from Denise Austin that I get in my email.

If you do binge, use it as a valuable learning experience. Ask yourself why you overate. What triggered it? What can you do next time to avoid that situation? Then just get up the next day and go back to your healthy eating plan. The binge is not the end of the world—it's what you do afterward that really counts!

Don't lose sleep over things you cannot change. Wash away guilt. It's not worth it. Strive for balance of health, fitness, nutrition, and happiness.

Later! :wave:

Melf- Liked your MM.

Well, woke up this morning and could tell before I got outta the bed that I was retaining some major fluid(my eyes hurt when I opened them). I was right, I am very swollen, but all my fault. If not for yesterday, I would have had 7 days on the poll. I ended up eating a cheeseburger(legal, whoopee), 2 oranges, and a BOX of sf pudding after my last post yesterday! This morning hasn't been good either. I had TWO scrambled egg sandwiches( total of 4 eggs, 4 pieces of low carb bread and mayo), 2 ILLEGAL cookies, and 2 servings of sf pudding(the pudding is now gone!). Gee whiz. Need to get a grip here. I WAS down to 169, not anymore. I'm going to try my best to watch it the rest of the day. Plus I need to exercise. Boogie and I have colds. He keeps giving me everything. But I just can't resist his kisses, even when I know he's contagious. Ashley is home from school today driving me batty. Fixing to make her work on her subtraction. Not much to report, staying at home out of the cold.

DEB- Why we do these things to ourselves when we know what the outcome will be, who knows. It sucks, but at least you catch yourself before you do even more damage. You're only human, so don't beat yourself up about it.

Pancho- So do you have the makeup yet? How is it? I must have missed your post when you mentioned it.

Hi everyone. It's cold here (of course this is Texas, so that's relative) but at least the sun is shining. I think I'm getting a cold, either that or the cedar fever is really giving me fits. Throat's scratchy, head's plugged up, the usual stuff. Just trying to get through the day here and then go home and get my jammies on.

I picked 4 days on the poll. Would have been 5 but I had a couple of bites of cheesecake when we were out at dinner Friday night.

Missy-I did notice the roux looked gritty from the ww flour but it didn't seem to affect it once I had everything mixed together.

Pancho-we all get fever blisters. Seth gets them worse than any of us, bless his heart. There's a medicine called Abreva that is really good but you have to apply it when you first feel the fever blister coming on. You know how it gets that numb tingly feeling right at first even before you can see it? That's when you need to start using it. It's also expensive, but a little goes a long way. There's also a prescription oral medication that I think you can get but I don't know anything about that. Also, there's no reason to be ashamed or embarrased. It's simply a virus, albeit not the most attractive thing in the world and quite uncomfortable.

Talk to ya'll later.

Thought I would catch up. I have to get ready to go to PT. Hope we actually do something today.

The nerve conduction test was unpleasant but not too bad. They put electrodes on my legs and feet and then shock you. A couple behind the knee were strong jumps. The needles in the feet were the only ones that hurt. Guess we will wait and see what that brings. No telling.

Have a roast in the crockpot for dinner. I know we will walk even though it is only about 20 degrees. I will just bundle up.

Pancho, how horrible about the cold sore. I have never had one (knock on wood) and hope I never do. My friend used to get them all the time especially if she was in the sun. She takes a vitamin called Lysine (not sure of spelling) every day and does not get them now. A co-worked used to get them and I told here about the Lysine and now she doesn't get them any more. it's worth a shot. Those pounds creep up so quickly, they fluctuate, then they seem to stick. Better get a fix on them now before they stick.

Chris, check the calorie count on those bagels. If more than 80 cal they will count as 2 starches. I will have to look for them. I would like a bagel every once in a while for a change.

Fillise, enjoy your "holiday" Good time to catch up.

Gator, hope you feel better and the Dr can figure out what it is. Sounds strange.

Monet, glad to see you back on the board. I was getting worried. My co-worker had vertigo last week also. She coldn't raise her head w/o vomitting. The dr said the rocks in her ears/head were unbalanced. Nothing to do for it, but did giver her something to stop the vomitting. Hope you feel better soon. It doesn't matter that you are doing Atkins, you still have to come on this board.

Melf, glad your not letting your stress cause you to go off plan. Thanks for the MM. If we would only do that we would be fine.

Have a great evening. Talk to you all tomorrow. Won't be on until lunch. Ihave the biopsy in the morning.

If I hadn't jumped head first into the chip bag yesterday I would have had a great week. So we'll just call it good. :)

Fruit..I've made the WW roux many times and it comes out great. I use the Sir Authur Whole Wheat flour. You really can't tell once it's in the dish. Trust me moma had her doubts...she is the roux queen..LOL And she said it was good.

Jack-K..glad your test wasn't too bad. I hope the results are conclusive and helpful when they come back in.

Trish..I agree about it being cold. It's hard to go from almost 80 to the 40's. The body doesn't have time to adjust...burrrrr.

Melf...loved the MM.

Heart...you don't sound like you are doing too badly. You'll get the puffy pounds off after a good flushing. Keep up with your water and exercise. Praying you feel better soon.

Deb..I agree with Cheylco...take care of DEB...you have to be your number one priority. Is avoiding the scales really helping? When I gained the most weight in my life it was because I didn't want to weigh. I didn't have to face it as much not knowing for sure. Not saying that is you because you know best. (((((((((((((Deb))))))))))))) You are a winner. You will get back on track. And you know what....you are loved regardless!!! You are not your weight. Praying you find that balance that brings you to the place that makes you comfortable and happy with yourself.

Gator and Monet...I'm sorry you guys have been under the weather. You are in my prayers.

Chrisd..thanks for the heads up on the bagels. That is one way I would eat breakfast again. I love them with cream cheese. A long time ago they use to be my treat after I got through walking. They didn't hurt the weight loss either so I'd love to give them a try. Of course I live in a tiny town so I will have to wait to go into a bigger town to see if we have them yet.

Good morning Susan...how are you feeling?

Poncho...remember what you said last week about muscle...if the two pounds are muscle you don't mind if they stick around..muscle burns fat. 115 flabby looks worse than 122 firm. :) Firm and healthy that's the best.

Welcome to the new ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These ladies are full of encouragement and great advice. Glad to have you with us. Looking forward to getting to know you better.

JackieO..Rose...Mountain...Toni..TVgranny and everyone else I'm missing..(((hugzz)))

Gott run and workout before I make an excuse to miss it.

Love and hugs,

Whole wheat BAGELS!! I was going through the store the other day bemoaning the fact that no one had the kindness to make whole wheat bagel or english muffins. I must look for them:)

Crystal--Thanks for your prayers. The Great Physician can fix anything!
I did go to the dr. this afternoon. They did a urinalysis and no problem there. So, after checking, he decided it is probably an intestinal virus that has not manifested itself in the usual way. Just pain! So I am on a bland diet--all of which is SB non-legal. And he is a SB person, too. If I don't get better by Wed. he will run more tests.

Have to go. Just wanted to check in. Am doing French all day. I'm hoping to start thinking in French by the time I leave for Paris in May. I have ordered dish TV for one channel--the french one, that I will watch every chance I get. Everything is in French, so maybe I will be fairly far along when I leave.

Ok guys...the bagel was great...but JACKIE asked to look at the calories and I just did...its not good..they are 140 cal per bagel. So I guess thats a big blow to waht I thought was a good thing. I guess I can still eat them, but it will have to be a treat.

Chris, that's not too bad. I think Deb had told us once upon a time (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) that 15-16 grams = 1 serving of starchy carb. I agree, though, save for the occasional treat. If anyone has a Schlotzsky's where you are (local sandwich chain), they'll do any of their sandwiches on a low carb tortilla (either 7 or 9 carbs I can't remember) also. I like them better than Subway.

I'm headed home to fix dinner and then go to bed. Dinner tonight, chicken parmesan, no breading, a little ww pasta, green beans. Have a good evening everyone.

Hey everyone

Just got back from New Orleans. I was in and out with the bloodwork today then I spent the day with my friend Amy. We shopped for Mardi Gras stuff and I went to pet smart to get Cozmo some new toys. I bought him a new perch that I can sit on a TV tray next to my computer so that he can "hang out" with me while I'm pecking away on the puter. It has a food bowl attached to it so he is in his glories. He likes to eat as much as I do!

I'm making Lasagna tonight and I'm going to watch American Idol - it's the only reality type show that I watch. I love it! I'll try to catch up on posts before that comes on...talk to y'all later.

Evening All

It was a little milder here to-day and sunny but now the temp is down again to about 5F. And I have to go out in it in a few minutes. I'm off to badminton again this evening, played already this afternoon. Took it easy so I have some energy for this evening. Eating has been good so far to-day. I made some caraway rye bread yesterday and that is what I had for breakfast with some liverwurst. The bread is kind of heavy but it still tasted good. It wasn't risen as much as I would have expected but that was probably because I took a peek inside the pan - it must have been the wrong tiome to do it :(. Next time I will leave it alone until it's finished. For lunch I had some home made lentil soup with kale and some leftover chicken breast with veggies. This evening I had a small steak with some stir fried veggies. For dessert I had an apple cut up and nuked with some mixed berries with about 1/2 cup ice cream. For an afternoon snack I had a few peanuts. So the icecream is the only non-op thing I have had to-day.

HeartMom - That was very insensitive what your friend had to say about Boogie.

Deb - Do you ever stop running around? Sounds like a good buy on Laurens dress. Hope you are just as successful with the shoes. We all go through the stages you are going through with your eating. We are all here for you just as you are here for us. Don't beat yourself up about it. How often are you weighing these days? Did you not do better when you were weighing more often? I know I need to get on those scales frequently to keep a check on things.

Pancho - Glad to hear that your ds is doing well on this woe. I hope she is motivated to continue.

ChrisD - Those bagels sound good.

JackK - Glad you got through the test o.k. without too much discomfort. It's not fun having needles poked in you.

Fillise - Hope you enjoyed your 'almost a holiday' day. :)

Gator - Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Hope you are better soon.

Melf - Glad to see the scale is still going down. Thanks for the MM. That's a good one.

Monet - It's good to see you back. Hope you are feeling better.

BOB - That sounds more like a heat wave you are having to-day. :lol:

Well I have to get going. A friend is coming to pick me up soon to go to badminton.

Bye for now.

Marie.

Evening! I thought I was doing pretty well today. BIG mistake. I went to the Super Wal Mart with my 17 year old, and after walking around a bit, felt worse than ever. I did manage to drive home with no problems, but I could barely eat dinner. Nothing appealed to me. :shrug: I did manage to make dinner for my neighbor/massage therapist, whose husband had surgery today. I just threw a chicken into my rotisserie oven and it was pretty easy. Hope it was good! I had to call the doctor today and leave a message that I was not much better. I expect to hear from him sometime tonight, telling me I have to go in for more tests. That is what he threatened me with last week. Oh well!

PANCHO: The Herpes virus that causes cold sores is very common. You could have gotten it anywhere. In fact, you can have it and it can lie dormant for years and years. My husband gets them, and I never did. After about 20 years of marriage, I finally somehow managed to get it from him. But I only had one bout of it, then no more problems now for over 5 years. He used to have terrible problems with it, but since he stopped eating grains, I don't think he has had one outbreak. Stress I know can contribute to outbreaks. So don't stress yourself over where you got it! :)

DEB: Is Michael interested in Washington U? My sister was wined and dined by them when she was a senior in high school. They flew her down, all expenses paid, but she did not want to go there, because she considered St. Louis too far south! :rolleyes: She took the total free ride to U of Chicago she was offered, then went Harvard for grad school. (she was a National Merit winner...) I was looking forward to Laura going off next year, but she has decided to stay at the junior college and keep working her over paying cushy job while she decides where she wants to go for school. I can't complain. It is cheaper, even with HOPE paying all fees, for her to live at home.

HEART: I feel sorry for people who say really dumb things, like that friend of yours. She was probably just trying to let you know she felt concern for Boogie and his health and all, but you wonder if she has a brain to put it the way she did! What she probably meant as a supportive, 'I care' statement sounded just the opposite. I wish I knew what to do for people like that, but I am afraid only the school of hard knocks can knock any sense into them.

JACK: I am sorry you are having to have those tests. If they are the ones I am thinking they are, they are not fun. I have several friends with back problems, and nerve problems, and one has that needle type test done frequently due to neuropathy and says it sure is painful. Is the therapy and brace helping your back at all?

FILLISE: I too signed up for six months of ad free forum viewing. It sure is nice not to have that stupid Special K ad in the way. Ever since the new year, I got it EVERY time I got on here! Its like sitting in peace and quiet after being someplace with a bunch of screaming kids! Ah!

GATOR: It was weird reading about your stomach cramps. I had something similar last week too. It finally got better, but coupled with the vertigo and nausea from that, I was rather miserable. I am still nauseated, and find it hard to eat sometimes. Like tonight...I grilled Omaha Steak burgers on my George Foreman grill, then had to almost force myself to eat it. Tom said they were great and ate two, but I could barely choke one down. I am so tired of being sick, dizzy, nauseated, and not being able to lose weight easily...I want to SCREAM! I bought a Spanish book to brush up on my Spanish. All your talk of French made me decide to do that. :)

COUNTRY: Thanks for the prayers! They are much appreciated, as well as very much needed! I don't know what I would do without it. You know?

ROSALIE: I love rye bread! My grandmother used to make it, and my aunt continued it. (My mom's family is Bohemian, from Prague) Harry's here makes a 100% rye bread, and it does turn out rather heavy and moist. I guess it does not have as much gluten as wheat. Try it toasted with some swiss cheese melted on it! Yum!

Time for me to turn on the electric mattress pad and climb inbetween the sheets and read.

:wave: to all I missed! My eyes are beginning to cross from dizziness so its time to change activities! :(

Night!

Hi All!

Just got a call from Yellowrose. Her DH Ray had his endartorectomy (cartoid artery surgery) done this am & did well. He is spending the night in ICU/CCU tonight for precautionary measures. She will be going home to rest. His B/P had gone up some but they medicated him & should be fine. She asked if I would post this message to let all of you know.

Will continue to pray for both of you, Lyn!

Monet--I really hope you get to feeling better fast! I know you get sick and tired of the slow progress, and not feeling well to boot. I have been eating like a saint (fish and chicken and veggies even for breakfast) and I still am losing only about 1-2 pounds a month. I have been stuck at this present weight for over a week. And I'm even drinking 80 oz. H2O every day. It's like a full time job. So I can really understand. Just hang in there, and know that you are doing the right things. Eventually, even slowly, you will get a handle on all this.

Thanks for your comment on the stomach cramps. I asked the dr. if he had other patients with the same symptoms, but he said "no." So I wasn't sure if it was a virus. He is just guessing. If it is, I certainly don't want to go for more tests on Wednesday if it just takes a little waiting.

Good Tuesday Morning:wave:

I'm so tired, my eyes are stinging and I'd love to climb back in bed. Went to bed late, MICHAEL woke me up out of a dead sleep somewhere after midnight and ELI woke me up unintentionally with his alarm around 3:30am. I shouldn't complain - poor MICHAEL pulled another all-nighter and has had NO sleep whatsoever! He's burning himself out slowly but surely.

Good eating day yesterday and hoping for another today.

Have to go get ready and leave the house in a little while. LAUREN gave me a list of things she still needs for her party which will have me running all over town. One place is nowhere near the next. I'm so not in to this whole thing!

I have a meeting at the school today but don't think I can make it, not with all the crap I have to do. Even Ebay is having to take a back seat right now.

Sorry, I just don't have time to reply to everyone individually. Even though I know you all understand, doesn't make me feel any better and makes me feel more out of the loop. Do know that I have tried to skim the boards quickly to see what's happening with everyone

Gotta run, get something to eat, maybe some much - needed coffee and hop in the shower (don't try to visualize that). Just remembered, I better look to see if I have a bday card for LAUREN - B day is tomorrow!

{{{HUGS}}}:grouphug: to you all, for being so understanding, and loving me, despite my numerous flaws!:D

I see the last time I was here was 1/9 and wow now it's the 20th. :o I've popped in a couple of times to read. And am still trying to remember who's who.

I think I've lost a little, the scale is down a little and there is a little difference in my clothes. I've been kinda "watching it" since after the holidays. Stopped using sugar in coffe/tea. Went down to 2% milk, from whole. Shopping with Cheryl I've tried buying "legal stuff" My bad thing is coffee ice cream at night. So I've started having it eariler in the evening and had less, the other day I bought Turkey Hill 6 grams sugar. And No Sugar added. But it's not coffee, it's cherry vanilla chocolate. Only one there that was No sugar added. It's not too bad.

Now I'm getting nervous. recap... I had throat cancer and weight loss was a symtom and now I'm afraid to lose. :(

I've cleared out my kitchen and am looking for a place to donate some perfectly good food.

I've been house bound from the snow for 2 days am gonna try to get out later, maybe it will warm up to the 20's.

By the way I see a someone here was trying to quit smoking? I did that 4 years ago, 2 years before the cancer was found.
FYI

The place that helped me so much was http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/76750.

Great people and there is usually someone there.

Good morning:

I just finished some legal WW waffles with some Splenda on them; it really hit the spot. I usually have cereal or oatmeal for breakfast.

I did watch My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance' last night, and some parts were so funny, I almost peed my pants. It was a much needed break for me. I also had my mini bag of popcorn with a few m&m's (that was my only off-plan food all day).

I was back to 121# this a.m., so I really think the working out is the key for me. I also ate on plan all day with the exception of last night during the t.v. show.

Does anyone here see a homeopathic doctor? I think I have read about someone who does, is it you, Gator? I took Britt to one yesterday because I would like to get her off this flovent inhaler before it causes other problems. I felt like I entered another world; it was kinda strange. BUt, they are being very thorough. They are doing a stool test, hair test, blood test, and they will test her for 30,000 allergens, including toxic metals, foods, pets, environmental, etc...It's going to get pretty expensive though since insurance won't cover much, if any.

I have a follow up appt. with my plastic surgeon today for the BR; I think I'll just have him cut off my nose while I'm there :lol: .

chrisd: Glad you found some bagels; I've seen them, but there was something about them I didn't like on the ingredients panel, but I can't remember what. I know that a lot of the low-carb stuff tends to be high in fat. I also think they were made with wheat gluten, and too much of that is not good, it's like glue. BUT, I can't remember. If they are good, and an occasional treat....why not! I know what you are saying about this cold sore being contagious; that's why I worry so much about it. Delaney grabs at my face all the time, and I would HATE for one of my girls to get this. It's strange because when I first got it, and didn't know what it way, I was picking at it all the time. I am so surprised I didn't spread it at that time. I cover it with a loose gauze at night so I don't touch it in my sleep. It is so close to my eyes, and can cause serious side affects if gets into eyse.

Fillise: Is this a new growth on your face? When did it show up? Good luck with the dermatologist.

Gator: It sure sounded like you could have a uti. Whatever it is, I hope it will subside and you will be feeling better soon.

cheryl: I hear ya....if I hadn't had it cultured, I would have never believed that it was a cold sore. I always thought it had to be on mucousal tissue.

Melf: So sorry DD'S BF is being a jerk. Hang in there, and good luck with all that. Thanks for the motivational monday.

heart: Yes, I do have the make-up, and I only used it once (before I got this cold sore), but I really like the way it feels and looks.

Trish: I don't get that numb, tingly feeling; I think it is due to where it is located. I notice a little bit of an itch, and then I look in the mirror and there it is. I have the RX Zovirax cream but it doesn't work that great. I don't want to take anything orally, as it can affect the kidneys after awhile. I guess I wouldn't be so embarrassed if it was on my lip, and it was obvious to all what it was. BUT, NO, people have to say, what is that on your nose??? Thanks for the info. & support.

Jack-K: Thanks for the info. I read something about L-Lysine before, and I have the cream to apply to it, but haven't taken it orally. I read that it is an amino acid and can't be taken consistently because it can cause other problems....I wonder if one month on and one month off might work. Thanks for the info. on the weight. I agree, it does fluctuate, and you think you're gonna pull out of it, and then it sticks. I have been pretty good, and intend to stay on course. I never want to see anything above 125# again; heck I never want to see 125# again. The test you had sounds a bit painful; I hope they are able to figure out what's going on.

Country: I know, I know....I said that on a week that I got to the gym 4 days; last week I only got there 2 days, and my eating wasn't good, so I am assuming it was due to that. I was at 121# this morning, and plan to get to the 2-3 more times this week. Once I get my body fat tested, I might feel better (or worse ;) ). Thanks for the encouraging words. Sounds like you have done well, except for those darned chips!

BOB: I think I might try the cranberry juice; I would like a glass in the a.m.

Monet: I know that stress can cause this to come on, but I do stress and it is hard not to. This darn flu season has gotten to me; anytime one of the girls have a sniffle, I'm up checking on them all night. When your dh used to get them, did they tend to be in the same spot? I got mine up higher on my nose, and this time it was lower, and I'm worried it could be somewhere else next time.

Yellow: Glad Ray pulled through surgery o.k. I hope he continues to do well, and will be home soon.

Deb: Hope Michael gets some sleep soon; this is such a busy and stressful time. I hope you find everything you need to today for the big party on Thursday. Take care of yourself!!

Well, Lane is cranky; I better run!

Take care,
Nat

Hey guys...not time to really reply right now...just saying hello real quick. Board seems slow this morning and yesterday. Im POTTY TRAINING today.....uuugggghhhh! Why cant they just come out trained? I have to say this sucks big time. Im not one that really has a lot of patience...so its gonna be rough! I have the plumber here right now trying to put in my hot water heater..than last night on top of no hot water...now I dont have ANY water at all...a pipe broke in the wall and we had to shut the water. Its amazing how much you CAN'T do without water.

PANCHO - Hows the nose today?? Did you look at that website at all? Ok, so I looked at the bagels and there IS wheat Gluten in them? So this is another bad point of the bagel? I was so excited about the bagel yesterday...now im depressed...I guess I should put them in the freezer since they will be here for a while. I will only have them once a week if not once every 2 weeks.

This is a quick hello--Got a lot on my plate today!

It's very cold here and I can't get my little house to warm up--brrrr.

Chris--have fun with the potty training!

Nat--this growth started back in the fall. It looks more like a skin tag than anything. Since I was trying to get through the surgery then I postponed having it looked at--but didn't think it would take two months to get an appointment!

Littlestar--would it help you to not weigh yourself but to take your measurements instead? That way you could think of it as getting fitter rather then losing weight?

Gator--Hope you are feeling better soon!

Monet--you too!

Melf--thanks so much for the update on Yellow's DH! It's wonderful to know he came through the surgery ok!

BOB--I didn't get to see the game. Hope the snowbirds aren't being too troublesome!

Time to get to work. I hope everyone has a good OP day!

Good afternoon,

Well the biopsy is over (thank goodness) Hope I never have to do that again. It was not fun. Men should have to have this stuff done to them. He prodded and poked untilI thought the probe would come out the other side. He had to make 2 incisions instead of just 1 (of course) so I had to go through it twice and then I had to get a manogram to check to see the clips they put in. Torture! Now to wait for the results. My boob hurts and I'm sure it will be black and blue.

Country, I thinky need to quit buying those chips. The kids don't need them either and they won't miss them after a while.

Gator, hope you are better so they don't have to fun more tests.

Chris, just eat 1/2 the bagle, add some fruit or yogurt and you ahve a nice bf.

Bob, did they do anything for your nerve loss? I had it done on my hands and arms and of course have severe carpal tunnel in the left and some in the right, which is aggravated by the RA. But I'm not going to do anyting about that either.

trish, we have a Schlostsky's, but I have only eatern there once. will check into it.

Fruit, Cozmo better watchout, he will be on SB too!

rosalie, Badminton twice in one day? That's good exercise. Keep it up, but don't wear yourself out.

Monet, Sorry you aren't any better. Maybe you should stay in bed and quit running around.The girl here said they told her it could take 3 days or 6 weeks. Luckily she was better in a week. The brace seems to help. i like wearing it. I have actually only had 1 PT session where I actually got to do something. I was sore but we will see if it helps.

Melf, thanks for the update fromYellowRose's DH. Glad everything went well.

Deb, Happy Birthday to Lauren tomorrow. Congrats on a good day of eating. I can't believe Micahel stays up all night and still does so well. He must be a brain and a working machine. Get some rest and don't get yoruself sick.

Little star, I can understand your fears, but losing weight wil help you fight cancer. All those good veggies and fruit are full of antioxidents (something like that) and much better for your heart too. I'm sure cheryl will guide you on your legal foods. Pretty soon it will become old hat. I really like the SF ice creams, so much I had to quit buying them.

Pancho, I don't think the Lysine willhurt you. It is a vitamin and my friend takes them every day. If she goes off, she gets a fever blister.

Gonna run eat lunch. I'm starving. Didn't eat bf in case it made me sick. Hope that sanwich tastes good. lately it seems nothing has no taste. I don't even wanna go there.

I just wanted to check in and let you know the family decided to stay with Atkins for a while longer. I know you will all be here if I decide to change as I am going to give Atkins another month to see how I am doing. If I am not happy with my progress then I will make the switch. There are things I like about SB vs. Atkins. I will also make sure I get the newest book as someone said it describes the eating program better while even I have to admit the first one is a bit confusing in parts.

Best of luck to everyone on a healthier you. :D Sue

Afternoon all! :wave:
Another busy day back at work. I had a wonderful day off yesterday. I got the whole house neat and clean. As long as I get it straight, DH is really pretty good about helping me keep it that way. Since I started back on SB (1/1/04) I have really noticed that I need everything in my life in order. It helps me stay focused. And I seem to have more ambition to get things in order. I've been cleaning out and decluttering like crazy! It's liberating!
Brandon made jerky and venison sausage all day on Saturday. It all turned out very good. The sausage is completely legal and I would think has away less fat taht pork sausage because venison is so lean (even though he added pork fat to make it more like sausage). We ended up with 18 lbs of sausage and I'm really hoping to give a lot away!
We went to Lord of the Rings on Sunday. It was pretty good. I've watched all three movies with him, so I had a good idea of what was going on. His mom described the trilogy and books to me as the ultimate battle of good and evil. When I think of it that way, I like it a little more.
We're talking about a trip to Vegas is March. I think that will be fun. We usually go tot St. Louis for Mardi Gras, but we can't work it out with work schedules this year (plus I think I'm getting too old for that!) We'll see!
I went to a different Kroger last Friday and was once again AMAZED at the amount of low-carb, and SF foods out there. It's all way too expensive when you can do your own with little work, but it is a major market. GATOR: I even found wheat free gluten free frozen waffles...Van's. Seen those?
I had yet another infuriating Atkins conversation with my boss and some co-co-workers who think Atkins of the way to go. Me and my boss have lost the same amount of weight and I am eating much more (her menu today is B: bacon, L: two deviled eggs and a diet rite, D: meat)and more healthy than she is. It's so stupid! But when I try to share how great htis is, no one listens! Maybe when I'm maintaining a 30# loss.
I can't even begin to go back and reply, but here are a couple:
TEENSY: If you don't mind sharing the bread recipe, I'd love to have it. I bought a Bob's red mill mix but haven't tried it yet. It looks completely legal.
And what is undiluted apple juice?
FRUIT: I've never had fried rice at PFChang, but I always order borwn rice with any entree I get.
Jack-K: What were those pot pies you had mentioned? Were they Amy's? Are those legal? The one's I saw were vegetarian but they had tofu. I don't know if I can do tofu! But they ingredients did look legal.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Hi Everyone!! Back from D.C. and Virginia. Had a good time but it's nice to be back. I am tired of eating JUNK. I swear you would think I had never seen french fries before. Oh well, today is a new day and I was on vacation, so I am going to go easy on myself (and the scale), by not weighing at all this week. I did do a lot of shopping and finally got some pants that don't fall off my butt like a rap star. I spent a little too much...but that could be another post. I am going back to the gym tommorrow and have been 100% OP all day..yeah it's only 2:00, but still. I only had a chance to skim the posts, so very few replies...

Yellowrose- Praying for your husband

Deb- Hope everything goes well with Lauren's party. Thought about Michael while in D.C.- Georgetown is BEAUTIFUL. Maybe a consideration?

Pancho- Sorry to hear about your cold sore issues. I have a friend that uses Abreva and that helps.

jackK- Thank God your biopsy is over. I hope you are feeling better. Good job with the 6 days on plan. Any news on the airfare?

Fruit- Cracking up laughing picturing Cozmo on Sugarbusters(per Jackk's suggestion). Before you know it they will be placing that little sign with the sugar cube and the red slash through it on dog food!! haha..imagine that 100% StoneGround whole wheat dog biscuits.

Anyway, everyone else..I have missed you and hope you have a good day---Ashley

Hey ya'll!!!!! Just got off the treadmill a bit ago. I was burning up and pouring now its COLD in here...LOL

Jackie-K...ouch..praying the test come back fine. I'd love to not buy chips that that is not an option. I am the ONLY one in the house that eats this way. The kids could live without the chips but I doubt hubby would be too happy....LOL What I need is to get back the self control I had at the start. :) Oh my gosh I have got to tell you. Would you believe I have to fight the dog for my grape fruit now. Yes, my lab thinks grape fruit is a treat. I dropped a fourth of it on the ground this morning. There was no chance of recovery...he swooped and scarfed. :)

Deb..Happy Birthday to your daughter. I hope you found the rest of what you needed and her party goes even better than planned. What day is it again?

JackieO..welcome back! Sounds like you had a good time. I'm glad you found some goodies to buy for yourself. Vacation should be fun.

Jenn....I think its because of the media attention that Atkins is so popular. I know it works but I mean why people are more open to it than SB. Especially men..they love the idea of being able to drown in meat..LOL

Susan...I hope you are warming up some. We keep the house pretty cold. It's only 50 outside after getting down to 28 or so..so it won't be warm in here today....burrrrrr

Littlestar...praying you can beat your fears and work on getting strong and healthy. Just remember when the pounds start coming off...I'm doing this and its controlled....versus just falling off without even trying.

ChrisD...how I remember those days....five of em..agh..LOL My easiest took one day. Unreal but true. I waited till Britt was 2 and stayed dry at night. I took her to the potty one day. Told her what to do and she took right to it. Of course I've had one that I thought was gonna be wearing diapers to his graduation..LOL But they all get it in their time. Hang in there.

Hey Nat. See the pound is already back off. You are doing fine. I know sometimes its hard not to worry but you really are doing fine.

Gotta run..sorry for not getting to every one. Each of you is important.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

Good afternoon! Its been a slow day. I made some protein bars, and got really ticked. The recipe never seems to work the same way twice, and I just can't figure it out. I don't usually have trouble like this, so its making me :mad: ! I wanted to go out for a walk with my daughter, but she got a call from my 'adopted' daughter which I guess sounded more interesting...sigh.

GATOR: I am trying to perservere, but there are times.... :( I have done very well with the Atkins lately. Seems not eating wheat is a good thing for me. Cravings are better, and I feel more in control. I just wish the scale would cooperate!

JENN28: Sounds to me like your boss is NOT doing Atkins correctly. My doctor put me on it for insulin levels that were not responding with Sugarbusters. I like SB better, in some ways, and Atkins better in others. The misinformation flying around about low carb eating is astounding! From what you posted as to what the boss is eating, I think they need to READ the book! A typical menu for me on Atkins is: B- 3 organic eggs, a thin slice ww toast, and maybe a few slices of bacon, coffee with heavy cream, L- a very big salad, with cheese, ham or chicken, and bleu cheese dressing, D- a grilled chicken breast, steamed broccoli and a salad. There are not a LOT of differences in SB and Atkins, when done properly. I do like that SB allows fruit, and whole grains, where Atkins kind of doesn't. But those are obviously problems for some people, so both programs are good, it just depends on individual needs.

JACK: My sister said she had vertigo for six weeks. I wanted to lay down and cry. There is something about the particles in the tubes in the conchlea getting out of place. They are what send messages to your brain on movement. So if the particles from one tube get into another, you have say round moving and telling the brain, when it SHOULD be triangles. This is what causes the dizzy feeling. There is a treatment for it, called Epley's maneuver, which I may try. It has to be done by someone else, but it involves positioning the head in a special sequence. It helps in 70% of Benign Paroxysm Positional Vertigo, which is what they call it if there is no reason for it! :)

FILLISE: I am sorry you are cold! I hated to get out of bed, since I had the mattress pad turned all the way up to high and it felt pretty good under the covers! Back to work for me tomorrow. I hope I can cope!

Off to take a nap! :wave: Hello to all I have missed!

Does it ever stop? Got a call from my Rheumatologist on the xray for my back. Yes I have digenerate disc disease. Also got the results from my nerve study. I have a presence of neuropothy. Wants me to see a neurologists. I told her I just can't deal with this right now. Can anything else go wrong? With my luck the biopsy will be bad news too. I'm getting depressed with all this, so I guess I will have to be treated for depression (just kidding). I can't work out only walk and the neurologist will probably tell me to quit that. Lose wt and look what happens. Enough of poor pitiful me.

Bunnababy, you are welcome ot stay here for support while you try Atkins. We don't mind. Good luck to you.

Jenn, yes the pot pies are Amys and they did have tofu. I haven't tried them yet. I'm a little leary of the tofu,b ut will give it a try. The other ones are by Shelton. My HFS quit carrying them for some reason. They were great. I think most people are so hung up on the amount of wt you lose with Atkins they don't think about nutrition. Most Atkins people gain wt when they get off it as they go back to their old habits. You can't contunue to eat meat and salads forever.

Ashley, Glad you had a great time. You are right,it was vacation, and now back on track. Funny how those FF always get us.

Country, I'm sure you will find the willpower to resists the chips. How funny about your dog and the grapefruit. At least it's good for him.

I'm outta here. Heading home. Gonna put the zitti (looks funny) in the oven while we take our walk and then I think I'll just get drunk! I won't but it sure sounds like a good idea right now.
Have a great evening.

Hey, guys. Feeling kinda icky with this cold. Just zaps the energy out of me. Went and picked up Boogie's WIC and then went to the thrift store. All I found was Boogie a pair of jeans for a buck. It's chilly but warmer than yesterday. The high was 45 today and yesterday was in the 30's. Got exercise class tonight. Eating isn't that great but it's not terrible either. I skipped breakfast(usually don't) and had 1 1/2 cheeseburgers for lunch. I'm still full. I'm still a little puffy today. Hopefully, it will be better tomorrow. I plan on cooking chicken breasts in the oven with salsa and cheese. Not for sure what else I'll cook tonight to go along with it.

MONET- Hope you get to feeling better soon. Vertigo sucks. And you're right about my friend, she means well at the time, but she doesn't have alot of sense. My elevator goes to a higher floor than hers.

Pancho- I watched that show last night and it was funny. I normally don't care for reality shows, but thought it was cute. I'm also watching Average Joe. Sorry about your cold sore. I had one when I was a teenager, but haven't had it since. But I get that tingly itchy feeling from time to time and then it just goes away(got it right now infact). Maybe I should knock on wood.

Good afternoon all--

I am so mad at myself. I overslept this morning so didn't get my exercise in. I was thinking of doing a light day because I have some real sore muscles in one arm. Don't know what I did to them, but I really feel them when I go to lift the pellet sacks. It is in my shoulder, and my forearm. Anyway, I didn't do any.....and had to be in town at 9 for my hair appointment. I really like the way it turned out. I wanted highlights, but not the frosted look. So these are very subtle shades lighter than my own color! Should look awesome this summer when the sun casts all of the reds in my hair. I like the way my hair looks in the summer months, but not the winter....that is why I wanted to try the highlights. Dh hasn't said anything yet.....but then half the time he doesn't even notice when I get it cut!!

Deb-- Michael will be a zombie before long. He needs to get some sleep too. Happy Birthday to Lauren. Hope she doesn't run you ragged!!

Little-- Good job on losing. Please don't let yourself get nervous over an intentional weight loss. Remember this is something that you are TRYING to do, not something that is happening TO you because of illness. If the foods are unopend, take them to your local food bank. They can always use the donations.

Pancho-- Don't know why, but I never think about waffles. We do an occasional WW pancake now and then. I can't believe that I enjoy oatmeal now.....never liked it, or peanut butter. Even as a teen.....isn't that strange. Now I get my PB at Fred Meyer's where I can grind my own. Good luck on Britt's tests.

Chrisd-- We understand that sometimes we just don't have the time to post to everyone. Hope you get your water fixed without any farther troubles. Yes, it is amazing how much water we use a day.

Fillise-- Stay warm. I was running around in my long johns.

Jack-k-- Sorry that you had to go through all of that. Crossing my fingers that the results will be good. Sorry that things just seem to be piling on you. Hang in there.

Cheryl-- Well, a little bag of M&M's is alot better than a big bag. This is life.....

Bunna--We will be here! There is nothing wrong with the Atkin's program. A lot of people have lost a lot of weight on it. Good luck to you and your family.

Jenn-- Freeze the sausage. We use alot of venison sausage because it is so lean. Doesn't sound to me like your boss is even following the Atkin's program. I know that they are suppose to have 3 cups of vegetables or salad a day! She might lose faster and more if she follows the plan. Here is the recipe, undiluted apple juice is just canned apple juice that you haven't added the water to. This is for a 2 # loaf, so if you need for a smaller one, let me know. All ingredients need to be measured and put in the machine in the order listed. (Or that is what my machine says!) Also need to be room temperature.

1 1/2 c water
3 T skim milk powder
3 T butter (cut in small pieces)
2 T undiluted apple juice
2 t salt
4 c WW flour
1 1/4 t active dry yeast (not quick rise)
Then mine says to use WW setting.....Enjoy!

JackieO-- Welcome back. I know that just one day of eating sugary foods was plenty for me!! Headache, bloated, and just plain miserable.

Country-- Too funny about the dog-- all of ours like fruits. Except oranges, and banana's.

Monet-- Nice to see you.....hope you are feeling much better. Glad the Atkin's is working for you.

Hope to get back on here later.....

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!! :wave:

It's 58 degrees and going down later on....I know this sounds warm to everyone above the MASON DIXON LINE , but when the temp is like this and the wind blows in off the GULF...IT'S DANG COLD!!! I had my wool pants on today, a pull over sweater, and another sweater (to keep from wearing a coat) ....when BOB is cold, IT'S COLD!!! :s:

I KNOW...I KNOW....quite your bee eye ching! :lol:

JACKIE.... I also have been diagnosed with neuropathy.
I haven't been to the neurologist yet either...I notice mine especially stronger when I get out of the shower and am drying with that arm. Did they tell you anything that can be done? We'll have to investigate this one together. Did the Doc tell you anything today after seeing the tissue that they removed from your boob? I had to do the same thing with the clips, and that sucker hurt like ****! AND YES...you will be bruised! Did they give you any pain meds? I had to take LORTAB afterward, and the next morning, my Doc had instructed me to take my first pill before eating anything....let me tell you that it knocked my socks off! I fell back to sleep almost immediately! Let me know, I'll be anxiously waiting..expecially since I've been thru it too! My thoughts will be with you...

NAT...I watched that too and I agree....it was so funny in places...he's a good actor...are you watching AIRLINE ? It's on A & E on Monday nights at 10pm (est) for 1 hr...it's the day by day happenings at SOUTHWEST AIRLINES...from the SW employees standpoint...if you've not seen it yet...don't miss it...
I watched AM Idol, and laughed my butt off there too...tonight will be even funnier...I can't wait for SURVIVOR to start...it's going to be so good this time!
Oh...and for the CRANBERRY JUICE , you'll have to play with the sweetener part...it's quite bitter to start with...I use SPLENDA, and I put 4 packets in a gallon pitcher...pour the juice in first and then the sweetener...stir that up then fill with water.

LAUIRE...I'm sorry that you're still not feeling good...shopping should have made you feel a little better though! ;)

JACKIEO...glad you're home safe and sound...what are vacations for if not to endulge! I hope you managed to eat some COUNTRY HAM while you were in Virginia..they have the best!

MONET...Kate has a problem with vertigo...she went to a ear specialist, and after a few tests, they determined that she has Vestibular fluid problems. She can't eat anything with caffeine in it...especially chocolate and of course, no coffee...not even decalf! Hope you're feeling better...

COUNTRY...way to go on the TM....I thought I smelled sweat! :s:

JENN...when I saw the temp up your way this morning I about blew my coffee! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

SUE....YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT DOING SB!!! Stick around....

CHERYL....you forgot the most important one....B.O.B. BOB! :smug:

LITLESTAR....YEP...that was me who's quitting....doing good so far...just keep your fingers crossed for me!

ROSALIE...stay warm up there....be careful when you play your badmitten....
getting all hot and then going out in that cold is NOT GOOD!!! :dizzy:

Well, it's time for me to fix supper....Talked to DEBBIE today while she was attempting to go to the POST OFFICE....she wasn't a happy camper!

Hi guys:

I am going to my first Nutrition class tonight; it s/b interesting. I am just not ready for the homework part of it; I just want to go to find out about all the new info. out there.

My appt. with my PS went well; everything looks fine, he thinks. He wants to see me back in 6 months. He said some of the "fat" under my arm is just still puffy and should go away....also said a lot of it is skin and you can't suck skin out...duh!

My eating has been good today.

BF: 2 WW waffles with agave (I think I erroneously said Splenda earlier).
Snack: 6 Garden Herb Triscuits with Laughing cow lite (2 wedges)
Snack: 2 mini cheesecakes (legal)
Lunch: Turkey sandwich on SGWW bread with cheese, cucumbers, & lettuce.
Snack: Broccoli with ranch
Dinner: Will be chicken/rice and salad

chrisd: Potty training without any water.....EEEEEK!! :lol: ! Don't get discouraged about the bagels; enjoy them in moderation! Most breads have some wheat gluten in them..it is what holds them together/binds them. I think I was thinking of Chompies bagels that I looked at, and one of the first ingredients was wheat gluten. The nose is slowly but surely improving. Thanks a lot for the site; I think I might order the Hbalm (I think that is what it is called).

Fillise: 1st things 1st; your surgery needed to be done, and is now out of the way. March will be here soon, and then they can probably freeze/burn that thing right off there.

Jack-K: It hurt just reading your post; I hope your boobie is better soon. Sorry about the other test results; I will continue to pray for good news on the biopsy. Thanks again for the info. on the Lysine; I will have to check into it again.

Jenn28: Different strokes for different folks. You know that SB is the way to go; it takes some people longer to figure that out ;) . I really think in the long run, it is the OOOONNNLLLY way to go.

JackieO: Welcome back!!

heart: Consider yourself very lucky that yours doesn't ever get past that tingly stage!!

BOB: I have not watched Airplane; what time is it on? I can only watch those shows that are on after 8 p.m. since that is when kiddos go to bed. I looked into the cranberry juice today at the health food store, but couldn't justify spending nearly $10 for one 8-oz bottle of concentrate. That seemed very steep to me. How long does it last once you make it??

Hi to Country & Teensy and anyone else I missed.

Better run and get some stuff done before my class.

Take care,
Nat

Good evening everyone.. Sorry I haven't been around. But my oven went out and we've been stove shopping. We finally found one yesterday and they delivered it today. Woopie! I made the zucchini quiche from our recipes. I just love it. And of course my oven baked it beautiful. Had it with my salmon tonight for dinner. Yummy... Its sooo cold here right now I can't walk outside. Guess maybe tomorrow I'll have to get on the treadmill till I can get outside again. I hope the scale does good for me in the morning. Hope to be back in the swing of things too. I just hate getting so far behind... Have a good evening...

Here's a couple more abbreviations:
HFS--Health Food Store
TM--Treadmill

Pancho--Yep, it is me! I go to a holistic doctor. Actually, she is an MD who practices holistic medicine. And, yep, my insurance company doesn't want to pay anything. So we use it for the deductable and for our "cafeteria plan." Why don't you ask the doctor there about your fever blister on your nose. They might give you something for it. Probably Lysine.

Still feeling tender in the lower abdominal area. Actually during the day it didn't bother me at all, but right now I ache. I think I'm getting better, though, so don't plan to call the doctor back. Unless I still have this next week. That doctor, Pancho, is a regular MD who practices western medicine, not holistic. So, I have 2 doctors.

Monet, I think we must be twins re how our body holds onto the weight. It should not be this difficult to lose when we are taking our thyroid meds. I thought that they would compensate and rev up my metabolism. Guess not.

We had a good dinner tonight. I found some jumbo lump crab at Costco and I splurged and bought it. Made great crab cakes, really sweet crab meat.

Today's food:
B--sautéed chicken breast, spinach
S--piece of sauteed chicken breast (munched this in class today!)
L.--lobster bisque with lobster meat in it.
S--applesauce
D--slaw with italian dressing, crab cakes
I tried to take it easy on the veggies. My tummy is mnot ready for roughage.

Gonna go and watch a movie. Bye.

Nat,

I don't buy the little bottle...I get the quart jars...here, they run around $4.50 which is expensive, but I don't get it very often...I've seen the concentrate, but like you...I won't spend the money...
AIRPLANE is on on Monday nights at 10p.m. est

Hey gang, just a quick note. Got out my old Yankee Hill Cookbook tonight to make Beanpot Chicken. Only, I got experimental, instead of cooking it with onion and salt, I used garlic powder and soysauce. You take your chicken parts, layer them in a dutch over or beanpot with your spices and seasonings between each layer, fill the pot with water until it is just below the top layer of chicken. Then cover and bake in a 300 oven for 3 1/2 hours. The chicken is so tender, it slips off the bones, and the remainder of the water makes a rich gravy or stock starter.

enjoy!

OHHHHhh! I am STUFFED! I made a chicken in my rotisserie oven and it was SOO good! Interestingly, since I started doing Atkins, my appetite has calmed down and I am not craving breads and carby stuff anymore! I could only eat part of my portion of the chicken and picked at my salad. I did eat the cucumber off it, though! I love cukes!

GATOR: It is interesting that we seem to have a lot of the same medical issues. I just wish one of us would find a solution and share it! Then we can both get rid of the extra pounds! I got more to lose than you do too! :( I do think that the Atkins plan is good for me right now. I need to get the insulin levels down, and this is a more drastic method, but SB was not doing it. I think both Tom and I ate something that caused our blood work to look bad cause we went for blood work on the same day, and both of us had something weird going on. His triglycerides were up.... nothing else. My insulin levels were through the roof. For no reason. Who knows!

I have to work tomorrow, so I better put myself to bed! Good night everyone!

HiedieHo All!

Have been AWOL but for good reason. Was really hurting. Yesterday went to the ortho doctor. There is degenration of the joint, tendonitis, large calcium deposit and material floating around in the socket. Wants to try other means first rather than jump into surgery surgery. So gave me a shot in the joint. Said it might feel worse at first but after a couple of days would feel better. Wants to see if he can decrease inflammation and reduce calcification.

I must have had a reaction to the shot, because within 15 minutes I developed a huge headache and was flushed. It was so bad last night I couldn't sleep. Today it still was bad. I did go to NH with the Joyful Noise. I shoulda stayed home, I was awful! Came home and took a nap. Right at the moment it does feel better, not gone but better.

I slept throught supper and when I went down, DIL had made a totally legal supper and artfully arranged everything for me and put it in the fridge. She had made a small salad, lightly sauteed yellow squash and zucchini and draised steak. It was delicious! And thougthful.

So aside from that there has not been much adventure in my life.

MONET: I hope your vertigo is better and they find a cause to make it treatable. Prayers going your way.

BUNNBABY maybe BB for short: Welcome to our little world. You'll find lots of support here. I just read further down the board and Fillise welcomed you the same way I did.

BOB: I love word games, would you mind sending me the link to Word Wizzard too?

HEART: I've had a freind for 50 years. We were close in our late teens and early 20s. Then both got married and drifted. We struck up again about 10 years later and would enjoy visits and calls. Then I moved to NJ about 15 minutes from her. Saw her frequently. I found that things I could put up with for a day or two I couldn't put up with on a more regular basis. Although we had a lot of laughs together, I couldn't stand her insensitivieness to others. She was only really caring when it glorified her if you know what I mean. I don't know quite how to explain it. She was also very bossy and everyone has to do things her way. After one incredible act toward me I just blew. Now we are long distant friends again. She's in Ohio now and I'm here. I haven't really formed a close friendship since, although I have many friends here.

CHRIS: I love Thomas' english muffins, I couldn't find them here and then I went on SB and stopped looking. I am going to hunt again for them just to try the WW bagels. I love bagels.

DEB: And you say I'm busy!!!!!!! For a long time I didn't see the damage I was doing, although in the back of my mind I knew there was a change. First it was in my clothes (I am NOTY going to buy larger ones). Then the other day I caught a glimpse of me in a mirror when I wasn't really looking. What a shock! A real wake up call! My God how I could I do this to myself? You always say we will get through this together, so let's go Kiddo!

JACKK: How did the conduction test go, fun isn't it? I had them before the spinal stenosis surgery. The doctor had that baby cranked up and I couldn't feel a thing! I also had it last year and was diagnosed with the neuropathy in upper and lower extremities. Hope you have a better report.

GATOR: That's how I felt when I had a UTI a couple of weeks ago. Hope you feel better.

Sorry can't sit here any longer. Will have to catch up tomorrow.

Take care, Shirley

SEF--Hope you are feeling better. The doctor ran a urinalysis and it was negative for a uti. Thank goodness. I still have some pain in my lower abdomen.

Monet--I've been doing "Carb Careful" which is VERY STRICT SB. We probably eat somewhat similarly. I eat about one slice of bread a day, if that much, and maybe one fruit. THe rest is protein and veggies and water! But all kinds of veggies. I don't have to forego what Adkins says are no-no. I eat broccoli, brussels sprouts, tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, peppers, onions, etc. etc. I don't eat dried beans because my dr. says they are mostly carbs. I'm off dairy, eggs, wheat, beef, cranberries, dried beans and canteloupe because of food sensitivity. I've cheated a little on the dairy, but do have nuts and goat or sheep cheese and also p-nut butter. I feel really good (except for this virus thingy this past 4 days), with no cravings, especially if I eat about every 3 hours. But the weight doesn't want to budge. I think we probably eat about the same, though. I've been drinking plenty of H2O, so maybe just upping the exercise. Finding the time is the problem, though. Hope you are getting to feel better.

Good Morning to everyone,
Sorry that I haven't had a chance to post recently, it's been a bit crazy at our house, and the computer room at home just isn't good for two people to be in there at the same time.
WIW - not good, 224.5, up 1.5 lbs. I'm beginning to realize that I have portion control issues. I'm eating the right stuff, just way too much of it. So, now that I'm come to that conclusion, I need to watch now much. At least I know what to eat, so it won't be quite as bad as trying to do both at once and getting confused.
Today B: egg, bacon, and cheese and WW toast(one slice).
and I have an orange for a snack later.
I refuse to let any more weight creep on, I've worked too hard to get it off.
I'm also going to the gym after work. I've been doing the treadmill at home this week, but need the strength training too.
I've been pretty fortunate so far, to be fairly healthy. I did have to make a appointment for a mammogram in March, a baseline one, since I just turned 40. My Mom had breast cancer, so I always make sure I go to the gyno every year and get checked.
On a brighter note, the husband called a local resort and made reservations for our mid-winter getaway weekend. Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY. It's expensive, but all-inclusive, and since we got married there, it's special for us. And we also made our summer vacation reservations for the Caribbean.
Amidst all that, one DS is taking the SAT on Saturday, and we've been doing college applications and even went to their first choice college for an interview. Hopefully they'll both get in and life will be good(except I'll be broke).
Sorry there aren't any replies this morning, I have to get to work and accomplish something today...

Happy WIW.

Hope the scale is good to everyone today.

I was down 4 lbs. Finally under 160. Now to keep it there and going down.

I ran to the store last night to get some ingredients to take a dish to friend whose mother passed away, and considering the mood I was in, all I wanted was comfort food. Picked up a package of brownes all covered in choc icing. Told DH boy I would love to get these and eat the whole thing. He said go ahead We were getting ready to checkout and he asked if I wanted to go get the brownies. I told him no, I would only hate myself inthe morning. So I went home and had 2 sf popcicles. Not how I wanted to drown my sorrows, but better for me.

Teensy, glad you like your hair. I bet it is cute. Men never notice. When I ask DH what i should do, he always says "It's your hair". They are so helpful. Are you the one that had the GeneralTao's chicken recipe? If so, willyou post it.

Bob, the clips didn't hurt a bit. Itook 2 Tylenol every 4 hours and my boob never hurt at all. I kept an ice pack in my bra at work yesterday. It feels fine today and not bruised yet. I talked to my pain management doc and about the nueropaty and he said don't waste my time with a neurologist. He said he treats many cases of it and they prescribe an anticonvulsion drug. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately it only gets worse. I'm going in Thursday to talk to him about all this stuff and I'll let you know more. My boss's wife has it also and she can't walk at all and can hardly get shoes on her feet hurt so bad. Sounds great doesn't it. Glad you are stilldoing good with the patch. hang in there, it will get easier.

Pancho, I think a nutrition calss will be so interesting. Have fun.

Toni, :wave: Enjoy your new stove.

Gator, hope you are feeling better today.

Arcayne, sounds yummy!

Monet, glad you are feeling better that you can work. I'm glad your cravings are gone. Guess you are one of those eat carbs/crave carbs people.

Sef, hope that shoulder does get better in a couple of days. Right now Arthur's not being very kind to either one of us. I'm about to shoot him. Take it easy, fatigue is such a big part of it and we tend to forget about that. My conduction report brought the same results as yours. So what are you doing for it?

Woodfrogs, getting to the gym will get rid of that extra 1.5. Those vacations sound wonderful, but NY inthe winter? Give me a warm beach anyday. We are thinking of going to Aruba. Good luck to your DS ont he SAT's.

Gotta run, they need to take the computer down for awhile.

Have a great day.

Good Wednesday morning. I weighed in at 121#, so I am starting to go down a bit;that's one pound from last week. Hopefully, I'll be back down to 120# by next week and keep it there.

I got up at 4 a.m. to get to the gym by 5 a.m., and got a great workout in. My eating has been good today as well:

BF: Zucc muffin on way to gym
Snack: Apple after workout
Snack: NSA yogurt with ground flax meal and nuts
Not sure what's for lunch yet, and I think I'll make that rotisserie chicken for dinner; thanks for the idea, Monet!

I think this nutrition class will be very interesting. I really enjoyed the first night, and am really bummed about missing next week (due to a previous obligation with my Mom's Club). I am going to be so far behind. She wants us to read Chapters 1, 2 & 3 by next week, and I haven't even gotten my book yet. I don't want to take Lane on campus, so I might see if I can find it on Amazon in a few minutes. The instructor even let us out about 30 minutes early.

Gator: I thought about talking to this doctor about the cold sore, but the appointment was so overwhelming that I forgot. I will ask him about it next time.

BOB: So you buy the juice already mixed, but dillute it further and sweeten it, right? I am going to check into what juices they have the next time I go to one of the bigger stores; this one was a small HFS.

Monet: I love cukes too. I'm glad your chicken turned out so well. That sounds so good, I think I'll make one for dinner; just have to run by the store and get one.

Sef: Sorry to hear about the problems with your joint; I hope the doctors can find a way to bring you some relief without having to put you through surgery.

Wood: Good luck with your mammogram; it's great you keep a close eye on it. Everyone really should, whether they have family history or not. It seems to pop up out of nowhere. Wow, sounds like some fantastic travel plans; you will enjoy yourselves.

Jack-K: Way to get those #'s down. You will keep them there, and will continue to see the scale moving in the right direction. Way to stay away from those brownies; it's that kind of willpower that will keep those numbers going down!!

Well, I gotta fill out a bunch of paperwork for this new doctor's office for Britt; hope you all have a great day.

Take care,
Nat

Hey, guys, Happy WIW. Not much going on my way. Had a lousy night trying to sleep. Tried to go back to sleep this morning but couldn't. With this cold, when I lay down I can't breathe well. So I got up and did my 3 mile tape. I sweated profusely, got really red-faced. I think when you have an infection or something and you exercise, you sweat more because you're body is trying to rid itself of the sickness. At least that's my theory. I weighed 169. That's also what I weighed a couple days ago. So I'm down a couple from last week. I've noticed that I've had 3 colds and 2 stomach viruses this season. So starting today, I'm taking a mulitvitamin and Vitamin C daily. I took it awhile ago, and now I feel nauseous. Breakfast was an orange and NSA banana cream pie yogurt. I got a couple chicken breasts that I need to cook for lunch. Probably make a big chicken salad out of it. Supper will probably be meatloaf, greens, and macaroni(my planned illegal cheat). I've had the box of macaroni in the cabinet a couple weeks now. I'll watch my portions with it. I can do that with packaged macaroni, but let me get hold of some homemade, and it's over with,lol. 100% Duram Semolina is legal right? I was thinking about making some homemade one day and using the semolina noodles since they taste just like the enriched ones. Oh yea, I took my measurements today, it's been a month and a half since the last time. I'm down 4 3/4". Keep in mind that I measure EVERYTHING! I was even down a 1/4" in my neck. But I'm down an inch in the width of my bust, an inch in my hips, and an inch in my gut, 1/2 inch in my waist. I can't get my thighs to hardly budge! Very aggravating. They are definetly out of portion to the rest of me. Alright, I'll quit my complaining.

Jack-k- I'm so sorry to hear about your health news. What does that mean for you in the future? Way to go on those 4 pounds! And you deserve a pat on the back for passing on the brownies.

Wood- I also have problems with my portions. Always have. But I do notice that when I watch my portions(make them smaller and skip the seconds at supper), that I see a loss. But it's hard.

Pancho- Let us know how your nutrition class turns out.

Check back later...

Hi there! Yall are so inspirational and I have already learned so much! My DH and I have been doing the SB WOE since the new year and we already feel better...I will be sure to pop in with questions cause I have many! But it really seems doable! I am a wife and stay-at-home-mom of two girls(like you, Pancho!) and I am also a fulltime nanny of a 7 month old and a 3 y.o!(9 hours a day M-F)...my girls are in K and 1st grade. So, my life is busy, busy and I need to plan, plan!!! I go to the gym 3 times a week and also do P90 and Slim in 6 at home for variety sometimes. I love this way of eating but there are some things I need to find substitutes for like sweet southern tea, Lime Chips :dizzy: and chocolate!! I am doing pretty good tho! I just love coming here to read and I hope to post my exercise too when the wee ones are asleep and I have some "free" time! Glad to meet all of you!

Good morning everyone. My water problems are over..at least I hope so...he did say I may have a slight leak by the water main...but I have to call the water company for that! I was up and running with water by noon yesterday...I thought it would be longer than that! Eating has been very good...I feel like I might have lost some weight...but shouldnt really say that until I get on the scale. I havent been able to get to my moms and weight...so i willl definitley do that over the weekend...hopefully Sunday....if not Saturday! Potty training is going OK...not too bad...but not too good either. I cant even believe how much this child pees. He had 4 "accidents" yesterday and went on the potty 7 times...so I guess I cant really complain. I guess I will complain when he poops in his underwear. I'll just throw them out...no way will I clean them...isnt that terrible? Anyway....

JACKIE - I had a degenerative disc also back in 1995...mine was so bad that it was hitting my siatica nerve and the pain was just shooting down my leg to my toes...it got to the point that I could barely walk...and the pain in my leg was almost worse than in my back. I finally had to have surgery and I remember laying in the recovery room..not believing how good my leg felt and how fast, after surgery, that I felt better. Having surgery was the best thing I could of done. My biggest relief...if you can even call it relief.. was Motrin...I used to take 5 at a time (Dr's orders). What do they plan on doing for you? things will work out for you...Im sorry your going through all this crap at one time. Maybe its better to hear all at once..this way you can get fixed all at once. Good luck! Oh yes, and great job on the weight loss!

PANCHO - yes potty training wih no water...wasnt fun...but I got through it...it was only until noon though. When is Britts appt? The bagels will definitley be just for a treat..I put them in the freezer last night since I will have them for a while now.

CRYSTLE - ONE day???? Why cant that be me???? lol That must o been wonderful. I know it will happen in time...I just want it to happen NOW! :)

Well gotta go get laundry done....hope everyone has a great WIW! I will let you know what happens on the scale over the weekend!

Afternoon All

No changes to report for WIW, still losing and gaining the same old pound. Was 200# even this morning. I've been eating well lately but I know I am eating too many carbs, particularly since having home made bread. But at least I know it is legal. I haven't had much incentive lately to even try to lose. This cold weather has made me want to eat more than usual. I've had a busy, productive morning. Defrosted my freezer - that's a chore that I really hate. I usually get my ds to do it but he is away for a few days so thought I had better get on with it. Then I cleaned out a closet and got rid of a couple of bags of stuff. That's a good feeling, but there's a lot more to me done eventually.

I just had pizza pita for lunch. It was yummy. I'd found some cut up pepperoni in my fridge that was left over from when I made pizzas a few days ago so thought I had better use it up.

Deb - When are you ever going to get a good nights sleep?

Littlestarr - Glad to hear that you are beginning to lose and to notice a difference in your clothes. That's a good feeling when the clothes start to loosen up. I understand your feelings about losing when the last time you were losing was when you had the cancer. But please remember that this time it will be a planned lose. Good luck.

YellowRose - Glad to hear that dh got through his surgery o.k.

ChrisD - Good luck with the potty training. I don't think there should be a problem with the gluten in those bagels unless you are allergic or sensitive to gluten. Gluten is just the protein part of the flour.

JackK Glad you got the biopsy over with and that it didn't give you too much pain. Hope you get good results. Sorry to hear about the DDD. But why would the pain specialist not want you to go and see the neurologist if your own doctor has recommended it? Maybe he won't be able to do anything different but at least it won't do any harm to get a second opinion. JMHO. Congrats on your 4# loss this week. :cp:. And good for you resisting those brownies.

Bunnababy - You don't have to leave us just because you are doing Atkin's. You are still welcome to join us here. Another book you might like to read is 'Eat Yourself Slim' by Michel Montignac. This explains this woe better and in more detail than the SB book. It should be available in your library.

JackieO - I know what you mean about eating junk while you are away. I was the same during my recent holiday. It seems the more you have the more you want. :(. But it's also good to get back to eating healthily again. I'm sure anything you may have gained will disappear quick once you are back op.

Teensybean - Sorry you missed your exercises yesterday. Doesn't it just ruin you whole day when you sleep in late. Hope your arm and shoulder are feeling better. Thanks for the tip about using concentrated apple juice in place of the sweetener in bread. I will have to try that next time.

BOB - Hope you are feeling warmer to-day. If it doesn't warm up maybe I should send you a pair of long-johns?

Monet - That rotisserie chicken sounds good. Glad to hear that Atkin's is going well for you. It must feel good not to have those cravings for the starchy stuff.

Sef - Sorry to hear about all the problems you are having with your shoulder. Hope the shot the doctor gave you will give you some relief. That was very nice and thoughtful of your dil to make your supper.

Going4fitmommy - Welcome to SB. Feel free to ask anything you like. Someone is sure to have an answer for you. Chocolate is o.k. to have occasionally on this woe but it should be the dark chocoale with at least 70% cocoa. The brand I usually use is Lindt but there are other brands out there.

Greetings to everyone I have missed. Time to get in the shower and get out to do a bit of shopping. Have to have an early dinner to-day as I have to be at badminton at 6.0.p.m. So it's either an early dinner or a very late one. I plan on having sauteed chicken breast and some veggies. Maybe a nuked apple with some berries for dessert.

Bye for now.

Marie.

Hey Everyone!
I'm staying so busy at work that it is infringing on my board time! I don't get to check nearly as much as I'd like, but I guess they're paying me and ya'll aren't. :wink:
I weigh in tomorrow, but I sneaked a peak Monday and I was down 4#. Monday's seem to be good weigh days for me! But tomorrow is the day, so we'll see. My eating and exercise have been good no matter what.
I got my hair cut at lunch. I have found this new girl that I love. The salon is a "day spa" so they are very pampering. She always massages my neck while we talk about what I want her to do to my hair...how relaxing! And then she massages my head when she shampoos me and by the time she's finished cutting nad drying my hair, I'm a noodle!!! :dizzy: I'm seriously thinking about getting a real massage. Does anyone do that? Do they only massage your back or what?
JACK-K: I'm so sorry you're feeling BLUE . I can't even imagine the stress you feel with all of your news of late. Hope you start feeling better soon. And KUDOS :strong: to you for not giving in to that emotional eating. Realizing your triggers if half the battle...not giving in to them in the other half!
TEENSY: I hear you on the DH not noticing the hair. When I cut mine off from being longer, Brandon moaned about it but I was like, "You NEVER say anyhting about my hair. What do you care??" Thanks for the bread recipe. I'll have to try it.
BOB: I've actually gotten used to the cold. 40 seems warm these days.
HEART: COngrats on the loss. How wonderful that you are tsticking to it even though you feel icky! Hope you feel better soon!
GOING4FITMOMMY: Welcome to SB! It is a really livavble way of eating (WOE). The people on this board are an invaluable resource!

Everyone have a great day!

The computer guy has to work on my computer so I thought I better catchup with my posts.

Pancho, I admire your dedicatio to get up and get to the gym that early. Glad that 1 pound is gone and athe other will go just as fast.

Heartmon, WTG getting in the new set of numbers. You really do need to take a mult-vitamin every day. I also take C and calcium. That's great on your measurements. I keep thinking I'm gonna do that. Who knows what all these problems hold for the future. I don't think I even want to know.

Goin4fitmommy, Welcome, this is a great board. Lots of support and friendship here. I know I sure could not have lost my weight without this board. You could get 70 or 80% chocolate to fix your cravings and put splenda or agave in your tea. Don't know what lime chips are, so can't help there. I really haven't found anything that wasn't replaceable in SB except cornbread. I always say where there's a will, there's a SB way!. Good luck.

Chris, that is exactly where my problem was, in my leg. My back hurt, but my leg killed me. The 2 epidurals I have gotten have helped tremdously, I still have a slight pain and muscle loss in my left leg, but hoping the physical therapy will improve that. I really don't want to have surgery. So glad you got your water fixed. Something you can hardly do without. Glad the potty training is going. I think boys are harder than girls. Buth then it was so long ago, I can hardly remember it. Good luck.

Rosalie, you are a cleaning fool today. Then you have badminton too? You will be worn out. I wish I would get in that cleaning mode. I want to start spring cleaning and scrub carpets, but just don't get around to it when the weekend comes.

Gator, sorry there was no change today. Hang in there, it will happen.

Jenn, WTG on those 4 lbs. Hope it holds for tomorrow. Never had a massage, but love pedicures. Monet gets massages for food.

Going out for dinner tonight with my bunco club. We have our Chrismas dinner in January. The place we are going is big on pasta dishes. I'm not, so I will propably just have salad.

Have a great evening.

Good afternoon:

I hope you are all having a good day. Britt had an early day at school today, so we are home already.

I went to Sprouts this morning and bought a whole chicken to rotisserie, as well as some other stuff, and walked out spending $80; can't seem to just get the few things I go in for. I was out of pot pies, so I bought 6 of those, and they are not cheap.

heart: I think you sweat more when you are sick too. I always take a multi-vitamin and a B complex as well as calcium; I take vitamin C on occasion. There is a doctor here who has a show on every Saturday morning, and a nationally syndicated program on Sunday mornings (Dr. Bob Martin). Anyway, he was talking about everyone getting the flu/colds this time of year, and that is why it is called the cold & flu season. He said it stands to make sense since we all start feeding ourselves sugar starting at Halloween and keep eating the junk throughout the holidays. He said that our immune systems weaken due to the diet that most of us have this time of year. There would probably be less illness if everyone was better with their diets this time of year. I will be anxious to read the answer on semolina pasta; I was looking at some today at Sprouts but wasn't sure. It looks just like the white enriched stuff. You are probably building muscle in your thighs as you are losing fat, and just can't see the change with the tape measure. Hope you feel better soon and can get some sleep.

goin4fit: Welcome aboard; we are glad to have you. I commend you for taking on two other children during the day; that is a really tough job. I don't think I could do it; it's tough enough to handle my own ;) . I just ordered the Slim in 6 program but haven't received it yet; what do you think of it? Do you use it just from time to time, or do you hit it hard for 6 weeks straight? Do you have to do it 6x per week? How long is one video? You can have chocolate, as long as it is 60% or greater cocoa content. I didn't like the dark chocolate at first, but I now prefer it to the milk chocolate. I look forward to getting to know you better.

chrisd: You cracked me up about the poop in the underwear? How old is Dominic now? At 2 1/2, Britt would not poop in her pants for anything; she thought it was gross (good for me), but she peed in her pants right up to her 3rd birthday, and then voila....she was potty trained overnight. We'll see how Lane does. Britt already saw the doctor on Monday; they did a hair sample, and we have to do a poop sample over the weekend, and I have to get her in for bloodwork in the next week or so. I also have to take her in for two hours two days in a row for further testing (such as allergy). I haven't scheduled that yet.

Rosalie: Have fun at badminton.

Jenn28: Mondays are not good weigh-in days for most of us since we tend to be more tempted to be bad on the weekend. We have actually had a few Mondays where most of us weighed in to keep us OP over the weekend. You can get a full body massage (30-60 minutes, maybe even longer). I get a deep tissue when I get one, because I like them to really go deep. Once you have one, you are going to want to start getting them a lot!

BOB: I found some Knudsen 100% Cranberry concentrate with water (no added sweeteners). It was a quart, regularly $6.99, on sale for $4.99. I will give it a shot and see how it is tomorrow a.m.

My sister is down 9 pounds in two weeks!

Well, I better run.

Have a great day!!!

HiedieHo All!

Well today I feel more human! Headache is just a twinge now and then. Shoulder still hurts so don't know how much shot has helped, at the moment I see no real change. DIL called from work and said not to bother to cook, she has something leftover from a retaurant and DS can eat other leftovers. So I agreed, and am taking it easy. Just going to choir tonight. No simming as it was in the 20s this a.m. and no swimming below 35'.

JACKK: We could be twins! Or almost. Between the back diagnosis and neuropathy and arthritis and..........what else! My neurologist said that there is no cure for neuropathy. He said the only real help comes from either an anticonvulsant or antidepressant. I said I would live with the discomfort. He was pleased that I didn't want to take any medication right now. He said we could delve further when it gets much worse.(Unfortunately it gets worse, something to look forward to!) So what do I do for it? Nothing! Live with it! Not much choice. My cousin is on Neurotin and says that helps about 75%. I can't use treadmill because of balance issues, the neuropathy often causes me not to feel the surface I'm walking on and I will stumble. I will also stumble if I don't realize there is a change in the surface, like going from tile to carpet. Also be careful cutting your toenails! Sometimes when I stub my toe I don't know it except that I staggered, you begin to lose feeling. When I first noticed the sensations starting in my legs I thought perhaps the spinal stenosis had popped up somewhere else along my spine, but the tests showed that wasn't the case. I had a dual operation for the stenosis and was glad I did. I also have what some call a vacuum phenonomen, that's where a disc just disappears, disintergrates. Not fun. I'm beginning to think everything about me is becoming degenerative!!!!! All we can do is maintain positive outlook and keep a sense of humor!!!!! Sometimes I think drunk isn't such a bad idea as it is people think I'm the big old lady they think most have been drinking as I stagger so! Hope you feel better soon. You're not pitiful, just dealing with a lot of things all at once. Eventually it will even out and you'll be able to breathe easier. You learn to cope. Trust me!

GATOR: It must be something oing around, right? I still have that cmpy feel in lower abdoman, had another blood test and doctor didn't call so my count must be up. Actually he was only guessing too that it was UTI because white count was up so high which usually denotes some kind if infection. Oh, well I guess I have to expect degeneration in everything nowadays. Hope you feel better.

PANCHO: Like the old gray mare....my joints ain't what they used to be! Even though I gripe I know it's kust something else that I have to live with and not much I can do about it. On good days I try to laugh about my gripes. It ain't always easy!

GOIN4: Welcome. Sweet southern tea? Wher y'all from hon? I use Crystal Lite but use less water than recommended. After a while you learn things don't have to be so sweet.

ROSALIE: I am very lucky to have my DIL, she is a really great girl. My DS is caring as well. I don't know what I would do without them! I usually do the weekday cooking but have gotten away with murder the last couple of days. I always feel bad when I don't cook as they both work, but they are so good and say it's not a job so don't worry.

LOL! I just had a thought! Seems like we are a health support board as well as SB. Between colds, tummy aches, possible UTIs, noses, growthsm boobs, backs, arthur.............get my drift. We're falling apart here!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe it's the weather, it has been strange hasn't it. Here we freeze one day and the A/C is on the next. Thank God for this Board, SB and all of you! Now let's all get healthy again!

You're the best!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care, Shirley

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!! :wave:

A bit warmer today, but the sun has gone done and the wind is still blowing!
I've got a sinus infection that is effecting my teeth...so I've got to get my Zpac filled tomorrow...

NAT...I buy LAKEWOOD 100% Organic...not from concentrate. It lists 8 gr of sugar, but that's all natural. You still have to dilute because it's so bitter.
You'll like it...

SEF...I found that the WORD WIZZARD only gives you so many times to play and then they want you to buy it for $19.99....I deleted it from my computer. I'll look around and see what I can find for you.

GATOR..feel better

MONET...sounds like you're feeling better...your chicken sounds good...

JACKIE...you could probably take SINEMET for the problem..sounds like a version of Restless Leg to me...ask you pain Doc about that. Also, ask him about Neurotin..that's what I'm taking now.
Glad you didn't have any bruising..

:wave: to EVERYONE...I've got to run...

Don't have but a minute...worked today, and was totally worn out by 11:30. I left early. We have small group tonight, and are eating at Subway so Tom and I can get low carb wraps. Hope they are good!

JENN: I get a full massage about every two weeks. I have a friend who is a neuro-muscular massage therapist, and we trade. I make her family dinner and she gives me a massage. I love it. She loves not having to cook. Works for both of us. I have Systemic Lupus Erythematosis, so the massage is very theraputic.

Hi, guys. Just a quick check in. Yesterday and today were horrible at work, computer problems, meetings, and just general UGH, I hate my job. Not really, but days like this I sure do. Seth had a bb game tonight (they lost, oh, well). It was at 6:00 so I had to race straight from work to the game. Fortunately we live next door to the coach (the boys are best friends) and he gave him a ride. I still don't have a scale but I'm eating right at least. Gotta find some time to get the exercise in, though. That's when I did the best. I know, I know, just do it.

Just wanted to mention, Pancho, that my niece took her daughter to an alternative medicine doctor. Actually, he practices oriental medicine. He did the allergy testing on her and found out she is sensitive to all kinds of foods, wheat, dairy, and some other stuff that I don't remember. Once the completely eliminated those foods from her diet (and that has been no easy feat, mind you), it is amazing to see what a difference it made. They found that it affected her not only with respiratory issues but behaviorally and emotionally as well. Pretty amazing stuff.

Gotta run. Just a month until the get-together. WooHoo!!!

Hey everyone

Sorry I was MIA yesterday - I didn't get home till after 9 last night and the last thing I felt like doing was getting on the computer. WIW was good - I was at 283 which is a 10 pound loss after the last 2 1/2 weeks. So, I'm happy!

I really briefly SKIMMED the posts and I just have a few comments before I hit the hay cause I'm exausted...so here they go...

PANCHO: My dermatologist gave me Valtrex for my fever blisters. I laughed because when she told me what she was giving me I said that I didn't have anything down "there" - just on my face! HAHA! (you know...that stuff is for genital herpes) But, lemme tell you It worked like a charm! The next time I started to feel one come out - I took 2 that morning, 2 that evening and it never showed up! It was great. So, check on that - it may be your solution.

JACK-K: Sorry things are looking so bad for you my friend....keep your chin up! I'm praying for you girl! Things will be ok. I loved your comment about Cozmo being on SB! That was funny!

JACKIEO: I'm so glad you are back from your trip and you had a good time! You'll have to give us all the scoop when you have time! By the way...Cozmo is a parrot...not a dog! But I could just imagine that symbol on all the pet foods! HAHA!

Sorry I didn't get more replies in...I really just skimmed the board because I am extremely tired! I'll try to be better tomorrow!!!

Back from small group and have a minute to post before bed. I am supposed to work tomorrow, but after this morning, and then tonight, I think I may stay home. I had to pull over tonight and let Tom drive, as I got too dizzy to feel confident about driving. I do have things I have to do tomorrow, but I am not sure I can take a whole morning of work.

We went to Subway for dinner. I was pretty bummed when the guy fixed my roast beef and cheese wrap, and put three measly little pieces of roast beef on it! I won't be going back there again anytime soon. It was so 'light', Tom had to buy a second one and was STILL hungry.

I had an accident tonight with the kitten. I was holding him, talking to Tom in the kitchen, when Tom, without thinking turned on the blender! The kitten freaked out and tore up my hand and arm trying to get away from the noise. His little heart was just pounding. It took me at least five minutes to get him calmed down again. My hand was bleeding and now it hurts like crap. I look like I got my arm stuck in a shredder! :(

Time to get between the sheets....have a good day tomorrow, everyone!

Hope everyone had a good WIW today. I did weigh myself, still the same, at 115lbs, which was actually surprising since I munched on some illegal banana chips the last few days. It is finally gone...:) I have been craving food for more than a week now, as if I can never feel full. I have come to a conclusion that it has to do with TOM and tonight it is finally here. Gosh, I never never been so relieve to welcome it :)

I know I haven't been around much but I do check in every so often to read the posts so I know how everyone is doing and I get to learn something new. Did I mention that my FIL is visiting from Florida? He shouldn't be here more than a week...I hope. I feel like I still haven't recover from my BIL's visit few weeks ago...lol. Anyway, this wee will be a busy week for me. As of 12am today (about 25 mins away), it will beChinese New Year and if I were to be at my homecountry, I will be having lotsa fun and eating lotsa illegal stuff :) It is absolutely my fav holiday and celebrated for 15 days, why wouldn't I like it...lol. I called my mom and family back home and chatted with them for 1 hour 15 mins and checking with them what plans they have on CNY. Well, they sure sounds busy. Alright...I know I am getting homesick but I am going to do a little celebration here on my own. I am inviting my neighbors who are also my friends (we are neighbors, friends and most of us go to the same church), and another girlfriend and her dh to a CNY dinner this Saturday. This is the time where I cook big and I don't care about the legality of the food, just food that brings back memories. I am making a simple fried rice (just eggs, green onions and peas), curry chicken, stir-fry shanghai bok choy with mushroom, onions and garlic, sweet and sour shrimps (or buttery shrimps which I just got the recipe from my sister earlier) and soy sauce chicken wings. I am hoping to buy some BBQ pork and duck from a chinese restaurant a friend recommended. The girlfriend of mine will make a stir-fry noodles and another veges. They will be about 12 of us and lotsa food...lol. That's how CNY at my mom's house. It can be just 5 of us and we had 8 to 10 dishes...lol. I know, we werecrazy...lol. The guests will bring desserts. I did the same with my neighbors last year and probably will be an ongoing tradition for CNY if I am not back home.

I won't be able to reply to anyone since there are so many posts and I don't know where to start but I do read them and think of all of you. I just want all of you to know I am still here and what is going on over here. I will try to post to everyone in the next few days whenever I get a chance. Oh, I read that someone is going to make a rotisserie chicken tonight/tomorrow. I am going to roast mine tomorrow for lunch with baked fennel with parmesan cheese and baked sweet potatoes. Gosh, I love when I can cook everything in the oven :)

Night guys and hope the rest of the week is good.

Hey, fellow SBer's, looks like WIW was very good to most of you. I am still at 158 so no loss or no gain! Better than going up, I guess. I am running out of patience with myself. Why do the last few seem to take forever?

Today was the day that I tried the brown rice. I just boiled it because I was eating it under some SF Sweet and Sour Chinese Meat Balls. Yum, Yum!! Even dh like this dish. Usually when I try something new he says it is "alright". Tonight he said it was "really good"! Yea! We will have this one again.....I would like to try it with chicken so it is lower in fat. I also found a recipe for a Sweet and Sour Beef dish that I think I will make to take over to Mom's on Saturday. We have lots of stew meat in the freezer, and I have everything else.

My Mom called this morning and it seem that my Grandfather down in Utah was cooking dinner when he had a stroke or something. He ended up burning himself pretty bad. They got him to the hospital and they are still running test to see if it was a stroke or a reaction between some of his meds. But he does have 3rd degree burns on his hand, and may have to go to Salt Lake for some skin grafts. My Grandfather will be 83 this June, and takes care of my grandmother who will be 96! I told my Mom that I would get her down there if she wanted to go, but she talked to a couple of her brother's and they said that she should stay here unless he got worse. It is a nasty drive in the winter time. So we are just waiting to see what comes up on the tests and how his hand starts healing.

Wood-- Sorry for the small gain....but you will have it gone in no time.

Jack-k-- Wow! Congrats girl.....4 pounds is awesome. Wanna share your secret? I can't get my scales to budge. Here is the recipe that you wanted. It is really good. It looks like a lot of ingredients, but it is easy.

1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast
1 T cornstarch ( I used 2 T WW flour)
1 egg white
1 T dry sherry
1 T lite soy sauce
1 t dark sesame oil
1 t Splenda
1/4 t hot red pepper flakes
1/4 t salt
1/4 t white pepper
2 T peanut oil
1-1 inch piece fresh gingeroot, peeled and minced
1 clove garlic minced
1 small green pepper seeded cut into 1 inch strips
2 green onions with tops cut into 1 inch pieces

Rinse chicken and pat dry. Cut crosswise into 1/4 inch strips. Combine chicken and WW flour in large bowl. Add egg white; stir to combine, set aside.
Combine sherry, soy sauce, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper in cup; set aside.
Heat wok or heavy skillet over high heat about 1 minute until hot. Drizzle in peanut oil and heat. Add chicken; stir fry until chicken is no longer pink in the center. Remove chicken adn keep warm. Reduce heat to medium.
Add gingeroot and garlic; stir fry 30 seconds; add green onions and green pepper; stir fry one minute. Return chicken to wok and add sherry mixture. Sitr fry until well mixed and heated through.

Pancho-- Good for you! You are such a skinny minny anyway! I am green!! Enjoy your class, sounds like fun. Share all of your learnings with us!!

Heart-- Fantastic weigh in girl. Glad that all of your hard work is paying off again!! Welcome to the 60's!! I have not had a cold or sinus infection, or any allergies for almost 3 years now. Since I got rid of all the sugars! My hips and thighs are the last place I seem to lose too.

Goin4-- Welcome to the board. This is the place to get all your questions answered. There are some very knowledgeable people here.

Chrisd-- Boy do I remember those days. I think I have pictures of both my boys sitting on their little potty chairs! They were so cute.

Rosalie-- Just remember staying the same it alot better than a gain! Hang in there. I sure wish I could get into the cleaning mood. I have alot I want to do, just can't get into the swing of it. Fillise gets the credit for telling me about the apple juice!!

Gator-- Hang in there hon. It will happen.

Jenn-- You are welcome. Hope you like it. I just made a loaf this morning. But I haven't had any yet. Have other starches planned for today. Well, dh noticed I got it cut this time, but he said he can't see the highlights!! I can see them, so I guess that's all that matters.

Fruit-- You are doing fantastic! You will be a skinny lil' ole thing in no time!!

Sef, Bob, Monet, and Trish and Keng, hello to all of you!!

Hope you all have a great day tomorrow.....see you then.

Hi everyone! This will be real, real quick because (naturally) I'm running late. Sorry I haven't been on board this week - I'm sure you know how that goes. Things here are well - eating has been very good. I have added a lot more veggies and some different variety of things to my diet this week so I won't get bored! Last night for dinner I had stir fried veggies (snow peas, water chestnuts, peppers, etc.) with ww rice. It was good and will probably have the left overs for lunch today. WIW was 121 - so I'm down a pound - I think the last six will be very slow going. Started school on Tuesday - it was awesome and has kept me going all week. I'm off this morning to buy a digital camera (nothing fancy) at Staples before work b/c I think it will benefit me while I'm taking this course (homework is shooting photos and I don't want to use film every week b/c of the time factor).

Okay - gotta run - hHope all is well - will catch up later!

Good morning everyone,
I woke up this morning feeling bloated and swollen, but I haven't really changed anything radically. Maybe it was the tea I had last night before bedtime...usually I weigh myself in the morning, but didn't even want to go near the scale for fear of depression at a possible weight gain.
Did watch my eating yesterday, much better than recently:
b: bacon, egg and cheese on WW toast
snack: orange
l: chicken breast, green beans, new potatoes w/ chives
d: cheddar cheese and triscuits
plus went to the gym and did the strength training circuit, plus 2.5 miles on the elliptical machine.

today:
b:bacon, egg, and cheese on WW toast
snack: orange(for later)

I have to go to the optometrist later and pick up my new glasses, and then I have to fix dinner, and have scrapbooking planned for tonight, so won't make it to the gym. But plan on going tomorrow after work.

Jenn28 - I've had a couple of massages, they are truly wonderful things. They did my arms, back and legs.

teensy - sorry to hear aboout your grandfather. I hope that he makes a full recovery, skin grafts and all.

I need to get out of here and go do some work.
Take care of yourselves,
Barbara

Morning all!
No weigh in today! A friend of ours came into town on business (works with DH) and several of us went to dinner at TGIF. I had a few beers, one potato skin, and a cheese stick, then a salad and buffalo fingers for dinner. I don't feel terrible about the food choices, or even the beer (I went with Michelob Ultra), but we were out so late and ate so late, that I didn't feel like a weigh- in would be successful! Maybe tomorrow. I'll be honest in saying that I don't feel like I fell off the wagon or anything. I certainly didn't even over eat. And even though beer is a "no-no", I'm just in the mind set of not depriving myself. I feel like if I do that, eventually I'll go nuts. So it's back to being very strict today and lots of H2O!
I had such good intentions of getting to work early this a.m. and there was a wreck on the two lane road I come into town on that blocked the road. I had to turn around and go the "back way" and it ended up taking me twice as long, so I got to work right on time instead of early! So much for getting up early!!!
Oh well, it's Thursday! That's almost as good as Friday! My sister is coming to spend the night tomorrow night. I always enjoy that. And my Grandad's 81st b'day is SUnday so we're all getting together for that...he wants a pizza party so my Nan is ordering pizza and I'm making WW pizzas for me (and whoever) and a big salad.
One more thing about last night...even though I had some illegals, I had that salad and...I've never beena salad person, but all of a sudden I love them! Usually I'll pick around and eat the lettuce with the most dressing and leave the rest, but I ate ENTIRE salad and enjoyed it as much as I would have enjoyed french fries. It's like my taste buds are changing and my body is craving the good stuff! It's really great!
Everyone have a great day. I've got lots to do, one of which is to get my office in some order! WIsh me luck...it's a major undertaking!

It is so frustrating to see people eating poorly when we know there is a better way.
My husband drives me insane because his eating habits are deplorable.
He never eats breakfast and then sometimes lunch, then maybe dinner at like 8 or 9 then it's all white foods unless he eats here. He drives me nuts.

Jack-KSorry to hear about your medical problems. I know the neuropathy is painful!
I was on a heavy dose of Prednisone and Cytoxen for a year, then was on Imuran for another 4. I have an autoimmune condition and all the medications cause a lot of pain in the joints so I know how much that hurts. I get sick of all the doctors and meds and feeling like crap all the time. I have a group of about 50 of folks with the same condition and we take turns passing the "pity pot" around. ;)
Some days are just better then others we've learned to enjoy the good days and deal with the crappy ones as best we can.
WTG on the 4 pounds!!

I have not met a single person who can live on Atkins. The people I've met have gained at least half their weight back within a month. Sounds prettu unhealthy to me.

BOB
So great to hear that your no-smoking is going well!! It's probably the hardest thing you'll ever do but SO worth it!!

Gator
Thanks for the additions to the abriviation list!

Sef
Ouch! Did the doctor give you Prednosone for the inflamation?

Hey guys...Im in a hurry this morning...just wanted to report that I was able to get to my moms to weigh in and I have lost the 3 lingering holiday lbs from last week plus 1. So that means 8 more lbs to my first goal...in other words I lost 4lbs this week. that makes me feel sooooo much better. I wonder if I can be down the 8lbs by the end of Feb..what do you think??

PANCHO - So what was the hair test for? What kind of allergy test are they doing? My nephew had one done when he was about 6ish and it was the whole needles in the back thing. I actually thought they just did that fro adults. Im sure someday I will have to face that, because every one of my in laws have allergies.
Dominic is 2 1/2 right now..I tried when he turned 2 but he was no way near ready. So far so good I think...I just wish it was a month from now.

Gotta run...my doorbell is ringing!

Good Morning:

It is so good to see all the posts on the exercise board. Even if you do exercise, sometimes it's easy to forget to post it on there. We're off to a good start this year. I hope to get to the gym today with Lane, if she is not too cranky.

Tomorrow is my day to buy groceries for Seth's family. A lot of people are bringing meals over, and some of us are bringing groceries to fill in, as well as putting together teams to help clean the house. His blood shows that all the cancer is gone, but there is a remaining 10% in the bone marrow that everyone is praying feverishly to also go into remission. Thank you all again for your prayers; the family is staying as positive as possible.

I made some more of the almond cookies (2 batches) and the chocolate nut clusters (2 batches) yesterday; the entire family eats them, so I don't buy as much of the "crap" anymore. It keeps me busy baking, but I'd rather the entire family eat this stuff than the other processed packaged stuff.

Sef: Glad you are feeling better today. We should change the name to SB/MD board, eh?

BOB: This cranberry juice has 9g natural sugars as well, and is 100% organic. I tried to mix a bit with water this morning and it was tart, so I will just try adding a packet of splenda at a time, or just make a pitcher of it.

Monet: I have heard TERRIBLE things about the subway low-carb wraps. My DH said he could have eaten his in two bites, and it was expensive. He said they didn't put much on it, and it was not very good at all. I have heard negative things from others as well. I won't be trying one. I did, however, go by Scholotsky's yesterday (don't know if you have those), and ordered a low-carb wrap there, and it was delicious!! I always loved their bread, so didn't think I'd enjoy the wrap since no bread, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was very big too; they wrapped it all up and cut it in half, and it definately filled me up. You can order any sandwich off their menu and they will wrap it in low-carb wrap (7carbs) for you. I ordered the turkey bacon club, and it had lettuce and tomatoes too. When you first mentioned the kitty and the blender, you can't imagine what went through my mind. Sorry about your arm; you may want to keep some antibacterial cream on it. The last thing you need now is a case of cat-scratch fever; it can be pretty bad, I guess. I hope your arm feels better soon!

Trishaloo: Thanks so much for the info. on your niece's DD; that is encouraging to hear. I know it won't be easy to get her off certain foods, but it will be worth it in the long run. For all I know, she could be allergic to pet dander; we have had dogs in the house since she was born....I hope to God not; we could never get rid of our doggie babies.

Fruit: Congrats on the 10#'s. Thanks for the info. on the valtrex; I might have to check into that. My only gripe is that I get no fore-warning; it just pops up out of nowhere, without the obvious signs.

Ken: The food you are preparing for your celebration is making my mouth water! Yum!! Enjoy!

Teensy: The last few #'s are definately the slowest and toughest to lose. You are so close; don't get discouraged now. It may well take months to drop those last few, but you already know that. Sorry to hear about your GF; I hope tests turn out alright. I am sure that a burn, at that age, could be pretty serious...the skin is so fragile and could probably easily be infected. I will say a prayer for him.

Suzy: The last #'s take the longest; I think our bodies go into some sort of survival mode, and want to hang on to those last few pounds. Congrats on the 1# loss.

Jenn28: How do you feel when you drink Mich Ultra? I used to drink that when I went out too, but felt so awful the next day, even if I had only 1. They seem to affect me too funny. I now just get a Miller Lite if I order a beer out. I heard Amstel Light is a good choice but haven't tried it. I am getting to the point, that I am just as happy with an iced tea. Have fun with your sis & at your GD's party.

Well, better go get some stuff done around here.

Take care,
Nat

chrisd: We were posting at the same time. The reason I chose this "route" was due to the non-invasiveness. They can test her with electrode type things on her fingers/toes and can detect the following:

Grass, weed & tree pollens
Animal danders, dust, birds & fish
Foods
Phenolic compounds that make up foods
Toxic chemicals & pesticides
Dental material
Molds
Drugs & pharmaceutical products
Bacteria & virus particles
Organs that are in healthy or diseased states
x-ray and radiation frequencies
Many other miscellaneous toxins

It will be nice to get it all done and behind us, and determine what to do from there.

This homeopathic doctor was a medical doctor for many years. He had severe asthma, and could not find a way to treat it, even with traditional medicine. He went to a homeopathic doctor, who "cured" him within 3 days. He then went back to school to become a homeopathic doctor, and strongly feels it is the only way to go. I guess he has not had an asthma system in 8-12 years (I can't remember).

We will see!!

I will be impressed if Dominic is potty-trained at 2 1/2. I started Britt between 2-2 1/2, but I guess her little bladder wasn't ready. I used to be critical of people whose kids weren't potty trained by then...but as I've said before, I was a much better parent before I had kids ;) . They really do have to wait until they are ready. Good luck!!!

Good Thursday Morning Friends.

Had a meeting this morning so just now getting on here. Our dinner last night was ok. Everyone else had penne pasta dishes or lasagna. Mos things were italian or pizza or pasta dishes. I ordered a Greek salad. It was good, way too many olives. But ok. I did have a glass of wine and a piece of the bread that came in the salad. it tasted like sourdough, but not sure. That was my only carb for the day so I figured I was alright since I only had the salad. I had 1 glass of wine. Today I'm starving. I overslept so I made a quick fruit smoothis for bf. Lunch will be a salad. Dinner ? We have to go the the funeral home so not sure what we will do.

I just realized that I am starting to sound like my grandparents, in how they always talked about their aches and pains. Seems like I am getting old just like them. Sorry if I have bored anyone or if I have complained too much.

Pancho, I only eat the duram semolina pasta. I only eat it about 2x a month. Congrats to your DS. She is doing great. Glad to hear most of Seth's canceris in remission. I will continue to keep him in my prayers. It is great that your family eats your goodies. Much better than junk.

Sef, We are twins! I can't beleive we have the same problems. I feel like you. Don't really want to do anything about the neuropathy now untilit gets unbearable. It does wake me a night. I just feel like my feet are freezing. I already take enough meds and really don't want to take anything else right now. That was the same drug they said I would need to take. Luckily I can walk w/o any problem right now (I think). Hope that shoulder feels better soon. Give it a couple days. It is so nice to have someone that has the same problems that you can relate to. And the support and info we share on this board really helps.

Bob, ooo, those sinus infections really hurt when they make your teeth hurt. I had one 21 years ago when I was prego. Not fun. Feel better soon.

Trish, hope your day today is much better. I hate when days are like that. Wears you out mentally.

Fruit, :dance: :clap: WTG girl! 10 pounds is awesome. Keep up the good work. Stay away fromt he white russians too.

Monet, I think you are doing too much. You don't want to have a relapse. Ouch! I bet that scratching hurts. Thanks for the info on the wraps. I didn't think they would be very good.

Kenjgw, Happy New Year! Enjoy your dinner with your friends. Just reading it made me hungry.

Teensy, how horrible about your GF. I hope he is ok. Burns are so painful. I can't believe he is 83 and your GM 96! How funny.Thanks for the recipe. Looks alittle too complicated for me. I'm not much of a cook.

Suzy, congrats on the 1 lb. The less you have to lose, the slower it goes. Just hang in there.

Woodfrogs, sorry you feel so bloated toay. You're right, don't get on the scale today. Hope it goes away quickly.

Jenn, It's funny how your taste changes when you start eating healthy, I eat things I would never dreamof eating. I like to try new things too.

Cheryl, what autoimmune condition d oyou have? Normaly my RA really doesn't bother me too much. It is under control. But I worry about what else it is doing to me that I don't know about like the nueropathy.

Chris: :clap: Congrats ont he 4 pounds. I think 8 pounds is doable if you stay 100% op. Good luck. Keep focused and you will get there.

Guess I better get started on this work. It's almost lunch time and I'm hungry.

Have a great day.

The scales didn't budge an inch..but that's okay. I'm eating well and walking till I'm drinched. So the rest is out of my hands. Still at 159. Hopefully next week I'll have a woosh..it's been a long time.

Jack-K...Sorry that you are going through so much right now. I'm so glad that you lost the weight and are active. It will make such a big difference how you do. Your dinner sounded good. I had some fried cabbage and fresh tomatoes but it didn't hold me. I went to bed hungry. Awesome on losing 4 pounds.

Colleen...so sorry to hear about your grandpa. Praying that he is not in too much pain and that they find the root of the problem that caused him to get hurt so it doesn't happen again.

Monet...oh my goodness. When I was reading your post I was thinking you dropped the kitty in the blender... :o Sorry that you are all scratched up. Cat scratches can get infected very easily. Praying you heal quickly.

Julia...yum! Wish I lived closer. It all sounds wonderful. Enjoy.

Poncho...awesome about Seth's recovery. Praying for complete remission including the marrow.

ChrisD...WTG on the pounds coming off. Mine are sticking around like long lost friends.

Jenn28...glad you had such a blast last night. It's good you don't feel guilty about enjoying yourself. It good to have a treat or two from time to time. I think it makes this WOE real and doable.

Woodfrogs..WTG on eating well. Sorry you are feeling swollen this morning. I hate when I get up and my rings are tight. I KNOW the scales are gonna be horrible on those mornings.

Suzy....WTG on losing another pound. You'll be to goal before you know it. Slow and steady wins the race. :)

Sef...praying for your shoulder. Sorry you are in pain with it. And all the other things that you are having to deal with.

Go Missy! Shake your booty! Awesome on getting those pounds off.

((Trish)) Hope today is much better than yesterday.

JackieO...hey!!!

Deb...sending good thoughts your way today.

Yellow...praying for you and your hubby. Hope he heals quickly.

I know there are more people I wanted to say howdy too but my mind is drawing a blank.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

NAT - Welll I'd say that just about covers it all. This Dr sounds awesome, especially because hes been through it himself....and believesit works...well I guess actually has proof that it works...thats great!
I know what you mean...I feel like if Dominic isnt trained soon people will start talkin...lol. I used to say the same things about kids not trained until 3-3/12...but like you said we were better parents before we had kids. LOL!
So are these almonds cookies you are making...those ones I posted a while back? I love them and really need to make them soon...its just hard cause DH is on Atkins and cant eat them. But, like I said before that's his choice not mine..right? :) Im trying to persuade (sp?) him over to this side of life! there are so many other options on SB...especially in desserts...and that is his weakness.

JACKIE - Dont apologize or say you are complaining to much...thats what we are here for right? Hope you feel better!

Thank you, Marie, Jennifer, Jackie, Nat, Shirley, Colleen, and Cherylco for the personal welcomes and ideas! I will definately be ordering some dark 70% chocolate and have a half ounce or so during those craving times! I am drinking a little sugar in my tea with mostly Splenda so I will slowly but surely get off this sweet tea thing! :dizzy:

I have a minute to sit here and rest...went to my Power Pump class this a.m and also did 15 mins on the elliptical....then the hardest part is carrying the 7 month old and 3 y.o. back to the car! ;) Now they are both asleep at the SAME time and my two girlies are at school, so let me enjoy this quiet!

Do yall refer to each other by real names or screen names?

Nat, yes I loved Slim in 6 but it kicks your bootay! I did 90 days of Power 90 before doing the 6 weeks of S in 6 tho. You use the first tape for a week or two and its either 30 minutes or right at an hour and it's pretty easy. Then you move to Ramp it Up and I think this one is about and hour. Then the last 2 weeks are Burn it Up and it is named that for a good reason and it's an hour or maybe a little more....It got very monotonous(sp?) to me and I can't carve out those hour blocks six days a week right now with little ones. That's why I enjoy doing Power Pump at the gym since I can take them with me and this class has weights and cardio/swiss ball/body bar/bands, etc. One thing I had to do during slim in 6 was eat more to fuel those harder workouts...phew, I'm tired just thinking of it! You will do fine!!!! ;)

Gotta run...I don't get much time on the computer, but I love to come here and read!

Hi,

My sweet husband finally got out of CCU about 1/2 day late because his blood pressure started to spike. They did manage to get it regulated and we got him home Wed. morning. My daughter left this morning and although we miss her, she has her home and husband to take care of and she has company coming Friday. She was such a support during all this.

While we waited for visiting hours and Ray to come out of surgery, we knitted. She made her first scarf and I made her a hat to match. She is so pleased with it all.

I stayed on program eating wise but had more wine than I should have and have stayed the same, weight wise. With my DH having to be on a low saturated fat diet, we should start to see some of the weight start coming off me since I will eat the same foods just keep my part low carb. We will need to add calories and carbs to his plan to keep his weight up.

Melf: Thank you for reporting to the board for me. It was nice to get to visit with you on the phone. I hope your cold symptoms are improving.

Thank you all so much for you thoughts and prayers...it meant a lot.

What's going on everybody? Worked out this A.M. with trainer and am already limping like a wounded animal. I guess that is what vacation does. I did weigh myself and stayed the exact same, so the damage wasn't too bad. Planning to get a good night's sleep tonight, hopefully I will finish tutoring at a reasonable time. Will find out soon if I can take the Mon before Mardi Gras off and be able to stay an extra day at the SB gathering. I tried telling my boss that refusing to let me off would be discrimination against sugar busting people. He just laughed. Coming from the person who got a paper cut yesterday while doing drug screens and asked for Workman's comp. At least I have a good time at work.

Teensy- We are in exactly the same boat, trying to get those last miserable pounds off. I am still at 160 and would like to get to 148. If I get to 148 I will have lost my even 100 pounds, and can join you with the "100 and counting" logo. I think 148 is a reasonable weight for me (5ft 7). We will get there....EVENTUALLY. Just keep plugging along!!

Fruit- Sorry about the Cozmo mixup, I don't know why I thought it was a dog. How have you been feeling? Are you and Terry ready for us???

JackK- I am so sorry to hear about everything you have been going through. You DEFINITELY do not "complain too much". You are so supportive of everyone on this board. It's your turn to receive some support. I agreed with Bob who suggested talking to the doc about Neurontin. They put my Meme on that after her epidurals and it has really cut down on the nerve related pain. I have plenty of clients on Neurontin as well (since its non-narcotic), and they are having good results as well.

YellowRose- Still praying for your husband.

Going4fit- Welcome!!! We are glad to have you join the board. You certainly have a busy schedule. Good for you for finding the time to exercise despite that. I use both my screen name and my real name (Ashley).

CountryMom- I want to get to 159 where you are next week. I am at 160. Hoping for that same "whoosh"

Rosalie- Thanks for your supportive comments.

Everyone else, my boss just walked in so gotta run. Talk to you later- Ash

Just catching up here.

DD came by and wanted to go out to lunch (she knows I will buy). We went to this new rest and I got a fish sandwich (didn't eat the bread) it was in a horseradish/parmesan (sp) crust. and a fruit cup. The fruit cup was really good. Blueberries (yuk), mandrian oranges, pears, apples. Different. So I will save my salad for tomorrow.

Country, OK we're at the same place in wt "again", now lets go down, down down. I went to bed hungry too, But I'm sure I will make up for it today.

Chris, I bet Dh comes over to our side soon when he sees all the goodies you are eating.

Going4fit, You seem to be getting lots of exercise especially if you are taking those little ones with you. I think we use both real names and screen names, whatever suits you.

Yellowrose, so glad to hear ray is home and doing well. I bet you do see a difference watching the saturated fats. That wine gets me every time too!

Ashley, thanks for the info on the meds. I'm still waiting on the biopsy report and really don't want to think about anything else until I get that settled. My doc is bringing my file home and we will get together this weekend to discuss it. I wanted DH to be able to hear it all too. Congrats on staying the same after vacation. Getting back into exercise is hard on you after a week off.

Have to go the funeral home tonight and make a dish to take to their house. Other DD is home so she will probably want us to take her to dinner. I love these kids.

Talk to you tomorrow, have a great evening.

Hey guys. Not much going on today. I felt so BLAH earlier, I didn't do anything until after dinner. Finally made myself do a 2 mile WATP tape to help with the energy. It helped a little. Did some light cleaning. I have my exercise class tonight. I definelty need it today. I'm just feel like I'm in a "slump" these past few days. Don't know whether to blame it on the cold or what. Anyone take cod liver oil capsules? My Mom takes them and swears by them, so I'll buy a bottle this weekend. So now my goal is to take my multivitamin, vitamin C, zinc, and cod liver oil caps. I'm not much of a pill taker, so I'll take them all at one time. Hopefully, it will boost my immune system and give me some energy. I got a pork roast in the crockpot smelling great. A little greasy, but I can't afford the beef roasts at the time. Not for sure what I'm going to cook to go with it.

CHRIS- WIth my daughter, my 1st child, everyone was always giving me their advice, especially about potty-training. So I just HAD to make sure she was trained at 2. It was not fun, and I stressed way too much over it. Then my son came along, and I realized that every child is different and took it all in stride. He was 3 before fully trained. I let him do it at his own pace and didn't care what others thought. The same thing about the bottle- at 12 months old, I took my daughter completely off the bottle because that is what I was told to do. I heard her scream for 3 days until she finally started to take the sippy cup. With Boogie, I let him decide when it was time. Introduced the cup slowly but without forcing. He didn't come completely off the bottle until a little after 2. So my point is, who cares what others think about child-rearing? It took me 2 children to learn that though. It seems with your 1st everyone has their input on how YOU should be raising your kid.

One set of abbreviations I don't know is WATP. What does that stand for? Heart?

Pancho--I think that the electrode thing you mentioned that they used is called a computron. It measures the electrical impulse at different points of the fingers and toes as, according to Eastern medicine, each is "connected" to a specific internal organ of your body. These points and "channels" of energy are called "meridians." Sounds weird, I know. I go to both a holistic (who practices homeopathic med.) and and to a regular Western doctor, who practices aleopathic med. So it is interesting to compare the two.

My virus is still hanging on, but slowly getting better. I actually went to the holistic dr. yesterday for something else, and they ran the computron on me to see what was up with the virus. They said, "Yup, this show that you do have a virus that has settled in in your lower intestines and also female parts. (I still have all my pieces/parts :) ) So, they actually concocted a remedy for me to take to hopefully relieve me from this virus. You wouldn't believe it if I told you how they did the remedy, so I'll just let you guess. :) I'm already feeling a little better. Hope it is "the real thing."

Gotta go. Just wanted to check in. Spent all afternoon with the H.S. student I mentor. We drove out to the community college so she could check it out and get motivated to finish strong this school year.

Where do you find the 70% dark chocolate??

I know they don't sell it at any of the stores that I have stopped at. I want some!!

Not much happening today. Did some cleaning, and finally got the file cabinet cleaned out. Yea!! Vacuumed the sofas and all the floors too. Can't believe the amount of dog hair that comes out of my dogs!! Supposed to start getting cold again the first part of next week. I am so tired of winter.....I want to see some sun and feel the warmth.

Haven't heard anything yet from my Mom, regarding my GF. Will keep you all updated as I hear. Thanks for all the kind thoughts!!

Suzy-- I love my digital camera. It was not cheap, but it is a couple of years old now. But it sure is handy! WTG on losing a pound. I have 6 more to go too, and they are refusing to budge.

Wood-- I hate it when you feel all puffy and bloated. When I eat ham I get that way. I am trying to only get on the scales once a week now.....and it is hard. Thanks you for the kind thoughts on my Grandpa.

Jenn-- Sounds like you had a good time, and you must remember this is for life....which means that sometimes you have to live a little. Enjoy your Grandad's b'day party!!

Cheryl-- That is so funny that you said that about your husband's eating habits. I have to bite my tounge so many times when dh eats. Some mornings he has a double helping of INSTANT oatmeal, with 2 full Raisin English Muffin's and nothing else. Then he wonders why the weight he lost is coming back on. Or he will skip a meal and eat icecream and chocolate chip cookies instead! MEN!!

Chrisd-- WTG on the 4 pound loss. I think that 8 pounds by the end of Feb. is doable. The exercise can really help.

Pancho-- Will continue to pray for your friend. What a nice thing for everyone to do. Thanks for the prayers for my Grandad.

Jack-k-- I don't think you have bored or complained too much. A big part of this board is knowing everyone, that means we want to know what is going on with each other personally. I have seen that a few people have eaten sourdough before.....is there something I don't know? Is it legal?? Give the recipe a try....it is not complicated, it just looks that way. The hardest thing is peeling and chopping the vegetables. It is well worth the effort.

Country-- Hang in there.....I feel a big wooooosh coming for you. Thanks for the concern.

Yellow-- So glad to hear dh is doing well. Did they figure out what caused the spike in his BP?? I am happy that you had your dd there with you. It is nice to have the support even when you think you are alright. Dh's sister stayed with me while he was having his surgery and I could never thank her enough.

JackieO-- Yep, we will just keep plugging along.....you ARE so close. It is like they say, "Slow and steady wins the race!"

Deb-- Enjoy yourself and relax.....hope Lauren has a wonderful time!!

BOB-- Please get to feeling better. And CONGRATS of the quitting smoking!! You can do it!!

Gator-- WATP= Walk Away The Pounds. Hope you get to feeling better now that they have concocted something for you. Take care of yourself.

Well, that's it for me......later! ;)

I was lurking on another board and saw this...I know we don't do ATKINS, but
I wanted y'all to read this....TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR!!!

NY Mayor Insults Atkin's Widow

MIKE'S 'FAT' JAB INSULTS ATKINS' WIDOW
NY Post
http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/16414.htm

January 22, 2004 -- The distraught widow of Dr. Robert Atkins is "extremely upset and hurt" after Mayor Bloomberg was caught on camera saying the diet guru was "fat" and questioning how he died, her spokesman said yesterday.
In candid, off-the-cuff remarks to a group of firefighters, Bloomberg hinted that Atkins may have died from weight-related health problems, despite reports that he succumbed from injuries suffered in a fall on an icy Manhattan street last April.

The remarks were captured by a cameraman for NY1 and heard by a Post reporter in the room with the mayor and firemen at a station house for a press conference.

"Veronica Atkins is extremely upset and hurt," Richard Rothstein, the famed diet doctor's spokesman, said yesterday.

"She is confused. She doesn't understand why the mayor would do this. She does not understand this at all. She's really hurt by this."

When the subject of Atkins and his slip-and-fall death came up while Bloomberg was eating at a Brooklyn firehouse Tuesday, Hizzoner weighed in with a blistering attack.

"Atkins is dead. I don't believe that bulls- - - that [Atkins] dropped dead slipping on the sidewalk. Yeah, right!" said Bloomberg, chewing the fat with firefighters.

And he didn't mince words when describing his meeting Atkins at a fund-raiser at the diet king's Southampton home two years ago.

"The guy was fat . . . and the food was inedible," Bloomberg quipped.

"I took one appetizer and I had to spit it into my napkin. It was just terrible."

Bloomberg yesterday ducked a reporter's question about his Atkins remarks.

"I would never criticize somebody about their waistline. Let me just say, 'You are what you eat,' " Bloomberg told WCBS Radio.

The mayor's press office had no comment on Veronica Atkins' remarks.

Rothstein said Veronica is at a loss for words after Bloomberg's attack, more so because the mayor penned her a touching condolence letter after her husband's death.

"She's looking at this letter and she's pretty upset and she's hurt," he said.

In the letter dated last May 5, Bloomberg said Atkins "touched the lives of so many and his legacy of service is an inspiration to us all."

Bloomberg aides have said the mayor's remarks to the firefighters were off the record. Media representatives responded that they were never told beforehand the session was off the record.

Rothstein said Bloomberg's beef has left a bitter taste.

"We don't know what more to say," he said.

"It's a painful situation. It's hurtful. We don't understand why our mayor did this."

More than 30 million Americans have tried the Atkins Diet - a hotly debated weight-loss plan favoring steaks and sausages over pasta, bread and fruit salad.

Critics have claimed the high amounts of fat in many recommended foods can lead to high cholesterol and heart attacks.

Here are a few FUNNIES for Y'ALL!!!

Some Things To Think About

1. Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out?"

2. Who was the first person to say, "See that chicken there... I'm gonna eat the next thing that comes outta it's butt."

3. Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

4. Why is there a light in the fridge and not in the freezer?

5. If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a song about him?

6. Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane?

7. If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

8. Why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

9. Why does your OB-GYN leave the room when you get undressed if they are going to look up there anyway?

10. Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!

11. If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that Acme crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?

12. If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

13. If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from?

14. If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

15. Is Disney World the only people trap operated by a mouse?

16. Why do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

17. Stop singing and read on..........

18. Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet Soup?

19. Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the atmosphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt?

20. Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him on a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

21. Does pushing the elevator button more than once make it arrive faster?

The Dangers of Eating Bread

A recent newspaper headline read, "Smell of baked bread may be health hazard." The article went on to describe the dangers of the smell of baking bread. The main danger, apparently, is that the organic components of this aroma may break down ozone.

I was horrified. When are we going to do something about bread-induced global warming? Sure, we attack tobacco companies, but when is the government going to go after Big Bread? Well, I've done a little research, and what I've discovered should make anyone think twice....

THE FINDINGS

1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread eaters.

2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests.

3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever and influenza ravaged whole nations.

4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread.

5. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to suffocate a mouse. The average person eats more bread than that in one month!

7. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water to eat begged for bread after only two days.

PROPOSED RESTRICTIONS

Most bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical babbling. In light of these frightening statistics, we propose the following bread restrictions

1. No sale of bread to minors.

2. No advertising of bread within 1000 feet of a school.

3. A 300 percent federal tax on all bread to pay for all the societal ills we might associate with bread.

4. No animal or human images, nor any primary colors (which may appeal to children) may be used to promote bread usage.

5. A $40.2 billion fine on the three biggest bread manufacturers.

A few months ago, there was an opening with the CIA for an assassin. These highly classified positions are hard to fill, and there's a lot of testing and background checks involved before you can even be considered for the position. After sending some applicants through the background checks, training and testing, they narrowed the possible choices down to two men and a woman, but only one position was available.

The day came for the final test to see which peson would get the extremely secretive job. The CIA men administering the test took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun. "We must know that you will follow our instructions whatever the circumstances," they explained. "Inside this room, you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Take this gun and kill her." The man looked horrified and said, "You can't be serious! I could never shoot my wife!" "Well," said the CIA man, "you're definitely not the right man for this job then."

So they brought the second man to the same door and handed him a gun. "We must know that you will follow instructions no matter what the circumstances," they explained to the second man. "Inside you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Take this gun and kill her." The second man looked a bit shocked, but nevertheless took the gun and went in the room. All was quiet for about 5 minutes; then the door opened. The man came out of the room with tears in his eyes. "I tried to shoot her; I just couldn't pull the trigger and shoot my wife. I guess I'm not the right man for the job."

"No," the CIA man replied, "You don't have what it takes. Take your wife and go home."

Now they only had the woman left to test. They led her to the same door to the same room and handed her the same gun. "We must be sure that you will follow instructions no matter what the circumstances; this is your final test. Inside you will find your husband sitting in a chair. Take this gun and kill him." The woman took the gun and opened the door. Before the door even closed all the way, the CIA men heard the gun start firing, one shot after another for 13 shots. Then all **** broke loose in the room. They heard screaming, rashing, and banging on the walls. This went on for several minutes; then all went quiet.

The door opened slowly, and there stood the woman. She wiped the sweat from her brow and said, "You guys didn't tell me the gun was loaded with blanks. I had to beat the SOB to death with the chair!"

A college professor was doing a study testing the senses of First-graders using a bowl of Lifesavers. He gave all of the children the same kind of lifesaver one at a time and asked them to identify them by color and flavor.

Good afternoon everyone!

I got to the gym today and got a great workout in.

Tomorrow is going to be busy! I will drop Britt off at school and then go by a friend's house who had a baby two months ago; I have to go to BabiesRUs first and pick up a gift cert. After I pick up Britt, I have to go to the college and pick up my book, and then to the grocery store to pick up some groceries for Chase's family, and drop them off beteen 5-5:30. By the time we get home the kids will be cranky for sure.

Jack-K: Thanks for the info. on the pasta; I'll have to get some.

Country: Hope you get your whoosh soon; I am sure you will.

chrisd: Yes, those are the cookies you posted; they are so easy and everyone here really likes them. Hope DH is succesful with Atkins, and if not, maybe he will be on SB.

goin4fit: We call eachother, pretty much whatever....no one really cares, I don't think. I usually use screen names. Thanks for the info. on the Slim in 6; I am anxious to give it a go.

Yellow: Glad DH is doing better, and continues to get stronger every day.

jackieO: Sounds like you have a good workout; you s/b a sore puppy tomorrow.

Deb: Hope Lauren enjoys her party!! We miss you too!

BOB: Sorry you are feeling crappy; hope you feel better soon.

Gator: Hope you feel better soon. This device is manufactured by BioMerideian company, and is called Meridian Stress Assessment. It is based on accupuncture points. It s/b interesting to watch.

Teensy: I get my chocolate (Chocolove) at Wild Oats, but Deb said you can get some at Cost Plus, if you have one of those. It is still cool enough that you can order some. I know I saw the Chocolove on the Low Carb Conn. page, under SB foods.

Well, I better go!!

Take care,
Nat

I'M ON A ROLL.....READ ON!!!

TOAST! and other amusing questions...

OK, relax, clear your mind and... begin:

1. What do you put in a toaster?
Answer: "bread." If you said "toast," then give up now and go do something else. Try not to hurt yourself. If you said, "bread," go to Question 2.

2. Say "silk" five times. Now spell "silk." What do cows drink? Answer: Cows drink water. If you said "milk," please do not attempt the next question. Your brain is obviously over stressed and may even overheat. It may be that you need to content yourself with reading something more appropriate, such as Children's World."

If you said "water," proceed to question 3

3. If a red house is made from red bricks, and a blue house is made from blue bricks, and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said, "green bricks," what the devil are you still doing reading these questions????? If you said "glass," then go on to Question 4.

4. Twenty years ago, a plane was flying at 20,000 feet over Germany. If you recall, Germany at the time was politically divided into West Germany and East Germany. Anyway, during the flight, TWO of the engines failed.The pilot, realizing that the last remaining engine is also failing, > decides on a crash landing procedure. Unfortunately the third engine fails before he has time to attempt an emergency landing, and the plane crashes smack in the middle of "no man's land" between East Germany and West Germany. > > Where would you bury the survivors? . . . in East Germany or West Germany or in "no man's land"?

Answer: You don't, of course, bury survivors. If you said ANYTHING else, you are a real dunce and you must NEVER try to rescue anyone from a plane crash. Your efforts would not be appreciated If you said, "Don't bury the survivors," proceed to the next question.

5. If the hour hand on a clock moves 1/60 of a degree every minute how many degrees will the hour hand move in one hour?

Answer: One degree. If you said, "360 degrees" or anything other than "one degree," you are to be congratulated on getting this far, but you are obviously out of your league. Turn in your pencil, and exit the room. Everyone else proceed to the final question.

6. Without using a calculator -- You are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales. In London, 17 people get on the bus. In Reading, six people get off the bus, and nine people get on. In Swindon, two people get off and four get on. In Cardiff, 11 people get off and 16 people get on. In Swansea, three people get off and five people get on. In Carmathen, six people get off and three get on. You then arrive at Milford Haven. What was the name of the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud! Don't you remember? It was YOU!!

By the time a Marine pulled into a little town, every hotel room was taken. ''You've got to have a room somewhere,'' he pleaded. ''Or just a bed, I don't care where.'' '

'Well, I do have a double room with one occupant, a Navy guy,'' admitted the manager, ''and he might be glad to split the cost. But to tell you the truth, he snores so loudly that people in adjoining rooms have complained in the past. I'm not sure it'd be worth it to you.''

''No problem,'' the tired Marine assured him. ''I'll take it.''

The next morning the Marine came down to breakfast bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
''How'd you sleep?'' asked the manager.
''Never better.'' The manager was impressed. ''No problem with the other guy snoring, then?''

''Nope, I shut him up in no time,'' said the Marine. ''How'd you manage that?'' asked the manager.

''He was already in bed, snoring away, when I came in the room,'' the Marine explained. ''I went over, gave him a kiss on the cheek, said, 'Goodnight, beautiful,' and he sat up all night watching me.''

Yes, Pancho. That's the machine. It's a lot easier finding out what's wrong with that thing than going through MRI's, CT scans, blood tests, schick tests, etc. The electro-dermal testing they do with that thing are very interesting. Hopefully they will let you watch the computer when they do it on your son.

For 70% chocolate--I get mine at Whole Foods. Its a small 1 oz. bar about the size of a very small playing card. It is manufactured by Scharfenberger and is fabulous.

We went to Sam Snead's restaurant for dinner because tonight is tomato soup. Horrors. They ran out at lunch and were serving something else. :( I had been looking forward to their tomato soup all day. Now I'll have to wait a week.

Hola!

How are y’all today? I’m good – I’m doing really good with my eating. I did have a cheat today – I had dessert pizza. They had an AR luncheon at school for those kids that are earning extra points through reading and they had some dessert pizza left over. It was apple pizza and it was GOOD! I don’t even feel bad about having it! Other than that not much else happening – I’ve got an incision from my surgery that isn’t healing properly – you know – the one located underneath my fat roll! It has some puss coming out of it – I guess I better call the doc huh?

OK –time to catch up on some posts!

MONET: I’m so sorry that you have been feeling so poorly. You better take it easy and not do too much girl! Take care of those hands too!

KEN: You celebrate that CNY if that is what makes you happy – just don’t go overboard too much! When you are homesick – you need to do what it takes to bring home to you! Have a good time!

TEENSY: I’d like to have that meatball recipe – that sounds yummy! I hope your grandfather is feeling better soon! I’m sure that burn is quite nasty! Keep us posted on his progress!!

SUZY: Great to hear from you…I’m glad that things are working out for you – you seem to be so happy! Let me know what camera you get – I would like to get one too!!

WOOD: I need to make a trip to the eye doc myself! I also like to scrapbook – I just don’t ever seem to make the time to do it! I’m pitiful! I still have a small wedding album to put together for a cousin and their wedding was last APRIL! Yeah – I’m procrastinating!

JENN: Glad to hear you had a nice dinner. I don’t feel bad either by straying a little – as long as you get back on track – which is very hard for me to do! But, I’m been doing my best with getting back OP if I have a cheat! As for salads – I love the one at Outback – the house salad with ranch dressing – it’s yummy!

CHERYL: How are ya? You didn’t post anything about yourself today!!

PANCHO: I’m sure Seth’s family really appreciates all that y’all are doing for them! We did the same thing for my friend when she found out her 2 year old had cancer. She had lost her 1st husband to cancer, remarried and then her second child ended up with cancer. Today she found out she has a lump in her breast – she is a nervous wreck! The doc doesn’t think it is anything to worry about but she goes for an ultrasound next week. Well, anyway – we each took a week and cooked for them – they so appreciated everything! It was a huge help to them.

JACK-K: Girl…you could never bore us! We are here for you to help you with what you are going through. Just like y’all are here for me with my baby trauma! That’s what friends are for! I’m going to do my best to stay away from the White Russian – but it sure is hard! You know how big of a lush I am! Haha!

COUNTRY: That WOOSH will come! I can just feel it! At least you haven’t gained! That’s the important part!

CHRIS: Sorry I can’t offer advice on the potty situation – maybe by the time I finally have a baby – I can come to you because you will be an expert!

GOIN4: I go by both names – FRUIT or MISSY! I’m easy – I’ve been called many things in my lifetime and I don’t get offended! :D Welcome to the board! I look forward to getting to know you!

YELLOW: I’m so glad your husband is doing better. You have been in my prayers dahlin! You should take a picture of you and your daughter with the scarf and hat on – that would be cute!

JACKIEO: Girl – you better get that extra day off – especially the MONDAY! That’s the day of my parade and you must be there! Yes – me and Ter are ready for y’all! I can’t wait! He’s just worried about getting everybody to the parade, etc…..you know he’s a worry wart! You will reach that 148 in no time! Keep up the great work! I’ve been feeling fine – nothing to complain about TODAY! Haha

DEB: I hope Lauren’s party goes off without a hitch! I’m sure everything will be beautiful! Let us know how things went!

HEART: I’m with you on the lack of energy! I could just sleep all damn day! I definitely need something or the kids in my class will be waking me up soon!

BOB: I’m so sorry to hear that you are under the weather. I get sinus infections and ear infections pretty often. I also get them to where my teeth hurt and that is a miserable feeling! I don’t know that I will be unrecognizably skinny in 4 weeks but it’s worth a shot huh? Get better soon! Loved the funnies!

GATOR: Hope you are feeling better soon!

Well, I think I’m all caught up…I’m going to post a funny right now for tomorrow! Y’all have a great day!

A woman was sitting at a bar enjoying an after work cocktail with her girlfriends when an exceptionally handsome, extremely sexy middle-aged man entered. He was so striking that the woman could not take her eyes off of him. The young-at-heart man noticed her overly attentive stare and walked directly toward her. (As all men will.) Before she could offer her apologies for so rudely staring, he leaned over and whispered to her, "I'll do anything, absolutely anything, that you want me to do, no matter how kinky, for $20...on one condition."
(There are always conditions!)

Flabbergasted, the woman asked what the condition was. The man replied, "You have to tell me what you want me to do in just three words."
(controlling huh?) The woman considered his proposition for a moment, then slowly removed a $20 bill from her purse, which she pressed into the man's hand along with her address. She looked deeply into his eyes, and slowly, and meaningfully said...

"Clean ... my ... house."

HiedieHo All!

Went to NH. Did not have t entertain this afternoon as we were cancelled. Concocted for supper. Sauteed, onions, peppers,(sliced thin), mushrooms in a very little oil and garlic. Added tomatoes and some sauce. Mixed into some legal penne, topped with mozzarella, stuck in oven until it melted. Very good.

BOB: Thanx but I can't afford 19.95 so forget it. I thought maybe it was a free internet game. Sorry about the sinuses. Did you know the TV lawyers have advertised about suing for the side effects of Neurotin? They want to sue over everything don't they?

FRUIT: You should be happy! You know I'm always having "senior moments", I can't find exact dates of get together. Will you post them again please? I have to notify all my groups that I won't be available because I am a SugarBusting Fool!

MONET: Cat incident sounds like a comic bit in a movie! Sure it didn't feel like it! Hope you are okay.

KENGJW: Memories are what keeps our traditions going. They may make us feel homesick but at the same time we are glad they are there to keep us connected. At 115 (I have a leg that weighs that much!!) I don't think a holiday treat will kill you. Enjoy your holiday (don't eat like that all 15 days do you?!?)

TEENSY: Can you post that SF Sweet and Sour Chinese Meatball recipe? Prayers for your GF, your GM probably needs them too!

CHERYL: Steroid shot for inflammation and to dissolve somemof the calcium. I didn't know you could dissolve it but he says actually you can. Shot did not hurt at all, he was good!

JACKK: I'm glad you decided to live with the aches. Like you I just feel there's too many meds in me as it is! I wouldn't worry about the wine, if I remember right an occasional glass was OK. Sounds like you ate OK.

GOIN4: It seems we swing back and forth between screen and actual. When I first came here I didn't feel comfortable as I had never done anything like this, now I don't mind if people know I'm sef aka Shirley

YELLOW: Glad your DH is doing better. What would we do w/o our children. Know my DS and DIL will always be there for me.

DEB: Okay take a deep breath! Everything will be fine. You've done all the prep now you can relax and let the chips fall. When you're rested come back to us! We do miss you!

Enough sitting for now. Only sit so long. Hope all are well.

Take care, Shirley

Hello Again!!

Not much going on tonight. Had leftovers for dinner. The Chinese Meat Balls over brown rice. Pretty darn good. And filling. Well, I let some of dh's peanut brittle that I made him at Christmas get the better of me tonight. Yep, I cheated!! But will move on.....

I decided not to exercise my upper body again today. Still pretty sore. Will do the lower tomorrow, and then hit it hard again on Monday. Hope the arm and shoulder will be better by then. I should have skipped a couple of exercises last week when it started bothering me instead of pushing it. I could have done all but the ones that really pull on those muscles. Now I am missing two full workouts of upper body.

Here is the Sweet and Sour Chinese Meat Ball recipe:

1 pound X-lean ground beef
3/4 t salt
1/2 t pepper
1/2 t grated fresh gingerroot
2 T oil (I only used 1)
1 green pepper, cut into 1/4 inch cubes
1 onion, chopped
1 carrot, grated
2 T vinegar
2 T brown sugar (I used brown sugar twin)
1 t soy sauce
1 t dry sherry
1 T cornstarch (I used 2 T WW flour) stirred into 1/2 c cold chicken or beef broth

Blend together ground beef, salt, pepper and ginger. Shape into 1 inch meatballs.

Heat oil in wok or heavy skillet; brown meatballs on all sides about 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients. Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens. Cook 5 minutes. Serve at once over rice. Yield 4 servings.

The hardest thing, or most time consuming is making the meatballs. It was an easy recipe and tasted very good! Enjoy.

BOB-- That is a horrible remark for anyone to say, let alone the Mayor!! I am so sorry for his dear wife.

Pancho-- THANK YOU! Yes, I think we have a Cost Plus. Is it the World Market?? I will check the next time I am in town.

Gator-- Thank you, but we don't have a Whole Foods here. I will try the Cost Plus.

Well, that's it for me....sweet dreams all! ;)

Teensy--We can also get 70% chocolate at Fresh Market stores. Try a good gourmet type grocer or gourmet shoppe. Also, you might be able to find it on the internet. Good luck. One more thing: those Sharfenbarger bars come in little 1 oz. sizes that are scored into 4 sections. I have found that just 1/4 oz. is very satisfying when I want a taste of chocolate. It is, of course being 70%, a very dark bar and is nice and hard, not like a Hershey's bar. So the little 1/4 oz. piece goes a long way.

Walked 2 miles this morning. Still having a little pain in the lower abdomen area, but have decided to try to get on with having things normal as far as exercise and food goes. I also weighed this morning and was down 1.5 pounds. But we ate out last night and I got a touch of the runs later on last night. So it might just be water loss rather than real weight. We'll see.

Food yesterday: (probably not enough food, I was really on the run)
B. tuna salad, spinach
Sn. 1 chicken tenderloin, sautéed (LOL, I eat this in my French class)
L. Remainder of the tuna salad left from the 6 oz. can of tuna. Some lettuce
Sn. 2 apple wedges dipped into p-nut butter
Sn. more apples and p-nut butter
D. Nice piece of grilled grouper. Sauteed spinach. Cup of chili.

Don't know if it was the spinach or chili that upset my tummy last night. The service was terribly slow at that restaurant and I probably won't eat there again.

Food today:
B. 2 pieces of cheese toast (1 sl. bread sliced thin! crosswise, and topped with about 3.5 oz. sheep cheese and melted under the broiler. 4 strawberries, 1/2 nectarine, 1/2 apple sauteed. Just wanted some fruit. Hopefully the cheese was enough protein.

Good Friday morning....wow, the weekend is here already. I am going to go to the gym in the morning, and when I get home, Gary is going to take Britt to get her bloodwork done. The last time she had to have blood drawn, it took two men to hold her down. I think he is a better candidate than I to take her.

Today is my really busy day, so I won't be able to get on later, but hope to check in sometime over the weekend (probably when Britt & DH are gone).

I weighed in this morning, naked, before I jumped in the shower, and was at 119.5#; I don't know if it will stick or not, but we will see. My only starchy carb yesterday was breakfast, and 2 cookies. I had a burger wrapped in lettuce leaves for lunch & a pork chop with salad for dinner. I think eating my carbs earlier in the day is the key, as well as working out on a regular basis.

Gator: I am going to stay with Britt through all of the testing. I am going to ask to see the computer though because I may consider having this test done on myself at some point.

fruit: I'd call the doctor. I had the same thing after my BR, and had to apply rubbing alcohol often, and it cleared up. Definately call the doctor and see what you should do though. So terribly sorry to hear about your friend, you have to wonder, "why!!!!" Best of luck to her on her ultrasound. Is her child in remission? How does a child so young get cancer!?!

Deb: Glad the party was a success; I hope you were able to get some sleep. We look forward to hearing more about the party and seeing pictures!

Teensy: At least you admitted your cheat and moved on. When you commit to eating this way for life, you have to know that there are going to be times that you do cheat, and then you move on. I believe it is Cost Plus World Market. I think someone mentioned getting their chocolate at Whole Foods; I haven't been able to find the right kind of chocolate at Whole Foods.

Well, I better go get dressed and ready for my big day!!

Take care,
Nat

Good Morning everyone,
Aside from clueless people at work, if people would just do things in a consistent manner, life would be so much better...
Still avoiding the scale until next week, supper was Kielbasa and saurkraut.
Didn't cheat at all. Scrapbooking went well, got some pages done and pictures organized. Today's breakfast: bacon, egg and cheese on WW toast.
I have an orange for a snack. Not sure about lunch yet, it may be sushi because I need to go out to the post office. And I'll hit the gym this afternoon and sweat some more of this off.
Cheryl - I tried to get my DH to do SB too, but he won't. And he wonders why he could stand to lose 20 pounds. Men are so funny.
For everyone else, sorry I can't get to more replies today, but the clueless people are winning today...

Good Friday Morning

I'm so glad it's Friday. Lost my mind this morning and thought I could sleep until 6:30, but I really need to leave the hosue at 6:30. I got up at 6:10. Talk about movin quick. I was only about 7 minutes lats to pT. He is late anyway so I didn't worry about it.

On the news last night they were talking about the old grapefruit diet. Come to find out, they did a study with people eating a grapefruit or drinking the juice and not changing their eating habits at all. Those people lost 3.5 pounds.... They said something in the grapefruit decreases your insulin production. I'm not changing to the grapefruit diet, but, makes sense to start eating one every day or drinking the juice. Plus I really like them.

Deb, hope the party went well. The good thing is, it's over! Get some rest this weekend. Can't wait to see some pics.

Bob, get some rest and get rid of that thing. That Open range looks pretty good, let us know. I don't know about you and Missy in NO. That might be too much for the city. I really don't think you all could behave.

Gator, did that remedy have any eye of toad, warts, or frog testicles in it? Hope it works wonders for you. Who cares if it is water or wt, it's gone. Yeah! What did you sautee the fruit in?

Teensy, I got the chocolate at the HFS (Wild Oats). I didn't like it at all. In fact, Dh ate it after I took one bite. Too bitter for me. Real sourdough is legal.

Pancho, sounds like you have a full an busy day ahead of you. Hope the kids cooperate for you.

Missy, I just ate my bf and then read your post. I almost lost it all. I'm gonna have to come down there and get after you if you have any more cheats. You are doing to wonderful. One leads to another. Be careful.Oh, no white russians either.

Sef, I had a similar dinner, except I put sausage in mine. Yummy. What are the side effects from the Nuerotin?

Woodfrogs, hang in there. You will prevail!

Got to get to work. Be back later.

Howdy from Texas. The weather is so nice this morning. It's 61 which beats the chilly weather from earlier in the week. I think I tend to hybernate when it gets too cold.

Jack-K..I'm glad you wrote about the grapefruit. I was wonderfing if it was slowing down my weight loss. I won't quit eating them just yet. :) I've enjoyed adding them and some neato read pears into my diet this week.

Barbara...hang in there...the clueless people will not win! :D

Poncho...morning skinny. ((Nat))

Gator..sorry your tummy was feeling bad. I bet it's not just a bad tummy. You have been eating well I bet you just lost the weight.

Teensy..I hope you shoulder feels better soon. I almost pulled my arm off yeterday. The treadmill makes the house bounce..or should I say my heavy footsteps on the treadmill. Any way my kerosine lamps were slidding off the entertainment center, I wasn't thinking and jumped off to save one. Then off in never never land went to get back on the treadmill while it was going ninty to nothing..I looked liked that goofy guy on TV that goes flying off his treadmill into the wall. :)

Deb....my feet are hurting just reading about your one hour shoes...ouch! I hope you had a chance to rest last night and are feeling better this morning.

Sef...Your recipe sounds good. I LOVE onions peppers and shrooms sauteed in a little oil. I could eat a ton of it. My family would like the pasta part.

Missy hope your incision isn't too infected and heals quickly.

((Bob)) hope you feel better soon.

Love and hugs to EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!! Time to check on the turkey bones.

HiedieHo All!

Can't seem to get started this a.m.! Have stripped the bed and done two loads of wash, took something out of freezer for supper. Have just been doing newspaper word puzzles and watching TV. A real ball of energy!! Not sick just LAZY!! I will say my shoulder does not ache constantly as it did but still hurts to pour a cup of coffee or lift something. At least there is some improvement. Grateful for all blessings!

DEB: I'm barefoot so much or wearing sneakers, casual shoes that when I put on the one hour shoes they dtart hurting five minutes later! Glad party was a resounding success. You have great kids but then you seem to be a good and caring Mom. So you deserve each other. Get some rest. We'll still be here when you're up to us.

TEENSY: Thanks for the recipe. I will try it.

JACKK: According to the ad, all serious side effects caused by depression, thoughts of suicide etc. I have not seen the ad in a couple of weeks. Today anything is sue-able. There was an ad if you have ever been a welder, all thoe things they said my father should have died from the effects 25 yrs earlier. So I guess you have to take them with a grain of salt. My cousin is severely depressed and onmedication, then when other problems developed the doctor put him on Neurotin. Makes you wonder how scientific medicine is! What kind os sausage did you use? Regular, Italian?

BOB: How horrible for you! I hope you feel better, You have to be able to swing in LA!

COUNTRY: The nice thing about last night's supper was it's easy!

Guess I should get constructive and dust and make the bed. Can't vacuum as GD is still in bed. Her room is up here too. Will check in later.

Some FFs:

An older Jewish gentleman was on the operating table awaiting surgery and he insisted that his son, a renowned surgeon, perform the operation. As he was about to get the anesthesia he asked to speak to his son.
"Yes Dad, what is it?" "Don't be nervous, son; do your best and just remember, if it doesn't go well, if something happens to me ...your mother is going to come and live with you and your wife...."

Aging: Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.
------------------------------------------
The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
------------------------------------------
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.
--------------------------------------------
How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?
----------------------------------------------
When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra.
---------------------------------------------
You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
----------------------------------------------
I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
----------------------------------------------
One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young.
----------------------------------------------
Ah, being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.
-----------------------------------------------
Old age is when former classmates are so gray and wrinkled and bald, they don't recognize you.
----------------------------------------------
If you don't learn to laugh at trouble, you won't have anything to laugh at when you are old.

First you forget names, then you forget faces. Then you forget to pull up your zipper. It's worse when you forget to pull it down.

A WELL PLANNED LIFE????
Two women met for the first time since graduating from high school. One asked the other, "You were always so organized in school, Did you manage to live a well planned life? " " Yes," said her friend.
"My first marriage was to a millionaire;
my second marriage was to an actor;
my third marriage was to a preacher;
and now I'm married to an undertaker."

Her friend asked, "What do those marriages have to do with a well planned life?"
"One for the money,
two for the show,
three to get ready,
and four to go."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A father put his three year old daughter to bed, told her a story and listened to her prayers which she ended by saying, "God bless Mommy, God bless daddy, God bless grandma and good-bye grandpa."*
The father asked, "Why did you say good-bye grandpa?"
The little girl said,* "I don't know daddy, it just seemed like the thing to do." The next day grandpa died.
The father thought it was a strange coincidence.. A few months later the father put the girl to bed and listened to her prayers, which went like this: "God bless Mommy, God Bless daddy and good-bye grandma." The next day the grandmother died.
Oh my gosh, thought the father, this kid is in contact with the other side.
Several weeks later when the girl was going to bed the dad heard her say "God bless Mommy and good-bye daddy." He practically went into shock. He couldn't sleep all night and got up at the crack of dawn to go to his office. He was nervous as a cat all day, had lunch sent in and watched the clock. He figured if he could get by until midnight he would be okay. He felt safe in the office, so instead of going home at the end of the day he stayed there, drinking coffee, looking at his watch and jumping at every sound. Finally midnight arrived, he breathed a sigh of relief and went home.
When he got home his wife said "I've never seen you work so late, what's the matter?" He said "I don't want to talk about it, I've just spent the worst day of my life."
She said "You think you had a bad day, you'll never believe what happened to me. This morning the milkman dropped dead on our porch.
There was a church that had a very big busted organist. Her breasts were so huge that they bounced and jiggled while she played, and they distracted the congregation considerably. The very proper church ladies were appalled. They said something had to be done about them or they would have to get another organist.
One of the ladies approached her very discreetly and told her to put alum on them and maybe they would shrink in size. She agreed to try it.
The following Sunday morning, the minister got up on the pulpit and said,* "Dew to thircumsthanthis bewond my contwol we will not hath a thermon tewday."
BOB--Yes, Sam Sneads is OK. They have good salads and you can get them with fish on the top. They are very popular. Their tomato basil soup is outstanding. Their fish is good and my DH normally gets the grouper or tuna "sandwich" minus the bread, and instead of potatoes, he has them put broccoli or spinach on the side. However, at both restaurants over here the service is like molassas, and last night it was warmer outside than inside the restaurant, which was as cold as a meat locker. Brrrr.
Jack-K--Actually, the remedy was made with the aid of that electrodermal "Computron" scanning machine that Pancho is finding out about with her son. They put water and alcohol in a little bottle, and set the bottle on a tray on the top of a machine hooked up to the computron computer. Then they "scan in" the virus that is showing up in my body. It has something to do with frequency, but I don't really understand it and it sounds really hokey. I just started taking these drops, so I'll let you know if it works. MDs have a fit over holistic stuff and think it is just hogwash. But more than half the world practices "eastern"/holistic medicine, so there may be some merit in it.
I let time slip by and by the time I got my chores done and got dressed and got ready to go to the store, it was after 12 noon. I was HUNGRY. I don't want to let myself get hungry. I had a salad with 4 oz. ham on the top, then bought a baked chicken at the grocery, and just had a snack of 2 drumsticks. DH is taking me out tonight.
Missy--Please, take care of yourself.
Hey, guys. I haven't had time to exercise today and I feel bad about it, like I'm cheating or something. Anyway, last night at the exercise class, the instructor was asking us what we thought of if she was sick or couldn't teach, then one of us could maybe fill in and teach. No one volunteered,lol. THEN one of the girls in the back pointed to me and said "you should do it, Ms.Energy" then everyone was agreeing. If you would have told me a year ago that I might be teaching an aerobics class, I would have said you were crazy. I don't know what it is about exercise, but when I'm all redfaced and sweaty I feel like I'm on a power high and can keep on going,lol. So it looks like if she can't make it, that I'll be her fill-in. Hope I don't trip in front of everyone. Anyway, I got my errands done and went to the grocery store. I was hungry in the store, so I got one of those Slim fast low carb bars(Chocolate Brownie)--it was GROSS! And it cost $1.47 for a small bar. I ate in anyway. I like the fact that they are getting more lowcarb/sugar stuff available, but the price is ridiculous on some things. I'm waiting on DH to get home, we're going out to eat somewhere. Tomorrow, I HAVE to exercise. Probably have to get up early and do it so that I have time. Oh yea, I have a bday party to attend tomorrow evening. So I will be having a small piece of cake. But no ice cream and if they have burgers, I'll have the meat without the bun,etc. I just love bday cake, so I know I can't pass it up. Gotta run...
Hello everyone....another boring day here. We woke up to another 6 inches of snow. And could get 6 - 8 more tonight. Dh plowed us out, and then we went and did my Mom. She had to take Grandma in to have her blood drawn. She is still on the blood thinners because of the clot she had in her leg.
It is supposed to be getting cold again next week. I am really mad that all my spaghetti squash that I raised in the garden froze. We had them in the shop and covered, but forgot about putting them in the fruit room when we got the below zero temps. Now I will have to buy squash for the rest of the winter! Darn, darn, darn!!
Gator-- Thank you for all the great info on the chocolate. I would like to have some in the freezer for those "gotta have some" moments! I like a dark chocolate bar, these will work wonderfully. Thanks again. Take the loss......
Pancho-- Yep, I am doing this for life.....I guess I just needed to taste it. We don't have a Whole Foods, but do have the Cost Plus, so the next time I am in town, I'll check it out.
Wood-- Hang in there....TGIF!!
Jack-k-- How strange.....I bought 2 grapefruit at the store today, and I will bet you I haven't eaten one for the last 12 years!! We must be on the same wave length!! When you say Real Sourdough.....If I make a starter....would that be legal?? I don't know what you mean by REAL??
BOB-- What happened to your face? I just bought the DVD Open Range.....we are watching it tonight....hope it is good!
Country--Be careful girl!! I bet that did look funny....the comercial is funny!!
Sef-- You are welcome....enjoy it. We did!!
Heart-- Good for you! I bet you will make a great aerobics instructor!!
Hope to see you all later..... :lol:
Hey friends
Just a quick one tonight as it seems as though I'm coming down with a cold or something. I think all you sick-os infected me through the computer! THANKS A LOT! HAHA!
My incision isn't improving so I guess I'll have to call the doc on Monday - thanks for all the advice! I know - I should have called today - but I didn't! To top of my Friday afternoon, I was leaving school and 2 of my shelves on my bookcase came crashing down - yeah they were full of school crap! Now it's all over my back table - a huge mess and I have a parent conference first thing Monday morning - that's my luck! HA! Oh well, I'm going to bed...I'll try to catch up tomorrow!
Quick check in. Its been a busy day. I went to the church to do the worship guides, which took three hours because there were more this week, plus an insert that takes 30% longer. One of my son's high school friends stopped by to visit tonight. I had not seen him in ages. He is such a nice kid. Big Korean guy, with the sweetest smile and a dimple. He sat and chatted with Tom and I over an hour.
I feel really encouraged after my meeting last night. We are doing an Arts Festival at church, which I am heading up. Everything seemed to start coming together last night, and it just got me pumped up! I love this kind of stuff!
TEENSY: PM me your address and I will be happy to send you a variety of 70% chocolates. I can get Valhrona, Fedora, Lindt, Sharffenberger, Rapunzel, Chocolove,and several others. You can even get the Lindt in little squares individually wrapped. Great for carrying in your purse for those chocolate emergencies!
MISSY: You need to get that incision looked at. I would suggest hydrogen peroxide to kill any bacteria. That is what the doctor told me to use when he operated on my toe. It stings, but kills the germs. Hope it clears up soon.
HEART: There you go! Asst. teacher for aerobics! That is great! I bet you felt pretty good being picked like that. Others notice your spunk, and admire it. I wish I could get that high feeling from being all sweaty. I need something to help kick my butt into gear!
JACK: I always thought there was SOMETHING to that grapefruit diet! It would work for me some, but then I would get SO sick of grapefruit, I would have to quit after four or five days. Another oldie we always did that worked great was the cottage cheese and fruit diet. All you ate was cottage cheese and fruit...canned, fresh or whatever. We always lost a pound a day on it. Maybe I ought to try that again....
GATOR: So where did you go for dinner? I wanted to go out tonight, but instead we ate scrambled eggs with rotel cheese sauce on top, and guacamole salad. It was good, but Tom had to eat the fillings out of several enchiladas left over from my meeting last night. For dessert...peanut butter! :o
Good night everyone! :wave: I am sorry I did not get all my replies in, but the yawning it making it hard for me to see what I am typing!
Another drive-by . . . please forgive me. It is about 9:50 p.m. and I still have to work out. It has not been a great night. I don't want to go into details - but let's just say that if want/need something done, don't count on anyone else to help. My mother is away in Aruba and my sisters and I are taking turns feeding her two cats and two fish. Well, one of the fish died yesterday and apparently I am the only feeding the animals . . . need I say more? In any event - I have flown through the posts and I hope all of you who are sick - get better. And those of you who are new: Welcome.
Few quick replys:
Deb: I hope the party went well.
Missy - I'm not always happy . . . I can disguise my mood through the internet. :lol: I bought a Fugi Finepix and it is working wonderfully. I'll keep you posted as I practice through the weekend. Take care of your incision - my second c-section incision got infected and would not heal. It was not pretty . . .
Colleen - Try to stay sheltered from the snow. We are getting some more on Monday.
Jack-K - I'll think of you this weekend. Hope all goes well . . .
Everyone else - have a great weekend. The treadmill is calling . . .
Monet--Glad to see you are obviously getting better.
For dinner last night, my DH took me to a new (to us) restaurant which was very nice. Small with about 18 tables and lots of yuppies.
I had a watercress salad with walnuts and pear dressed llightly with bleu cheese dressing. Entre: Sautéed duck breast (med. rare) with an intensely flavored brown sauce (like au jus) with caramelized onions, broccoli rabe, and pearl pasta. I did not eat the pasta. Wasn't even crazy about it. This dish was rich, so I ate about 3 slices of the duck and have the rest in my fridge for a meal today.
I did have dessert! My husband ordered warm chocolate lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and I had half of it. This is my "ideal" dessert. It is a tiny cake about the diameter of a custard cup, but only about 2 inches tall. The inside is runny, so when you cut it, warm oozy chocolate comes out. They usually serve it with a tiny scoop of ice cream. The cake gets all its sweetness from the chocolate, about 60% chocolate, and in this case, it was Valhrona. :) There is probably about 1 T flour in the cake and an egg. Totally delicious! I had 2 sips of my DH's wine as I didn't even want a whole glass.
Re. the duck, if you have never had duck breast filet, it is totally different from roasted duck, the kind they serve in restaurants with orange sauce. Usually that is somewhat greasy and sometimes the thigh or leg meat is tough. This is just a breast, like the boneless chicken breasts you can buy in the grocery store. They cook in in a dry hot skillet, because the skin on the one side of the breast renders enough fat to cook the meat in. They cook to desired doneness and then slice it on the bias into thin slices and serve. It is more like beef than poultry to my taste.
Well, let's see. I've rambled on about food haven't I! You can tell I enjoy cooking.
Well, I'm gonna go. Still have to get my walk in and have to eat breakfast. Today--a protein shake.
Hey
I'm feeling a little better today - not much though. We are supposed to be going to Baton Rouge to the LSU parade. They are honoring the team with a parade and then some kind of presentation at the stadium. Then tonight we are going to a mardi Gras party for our krewe. So, I probably won't be back on until tomorrow!
Have a great day!
I have * taking a deep breath...Central Nervous System Vasculitis It's such a long thing to say LOL
"CNS Vasculitis is inflammation of the blood vessels of the brain, the spinal cord and/or its covering -- i.e., the central nervous system."
Basically your immune system goes into overdrive and thinks everything in your body is an invader which causes inflammation which swells up the blood vessels (in my case to the brain) and I ended up with 2 strokes and almost died. Lots of fun there!
A lot of folks with Lupus get it from the medications they take. It's one of those rare things that a lot of people never heard of.
The only way to treat it is to knock out the immune system with high doses Cytoxen and Prednisone which are very strong drugs with horrible side effects (Osteoporosis, bladder cancer, High blood pressure, weight gain, thinning of the bones, nerve damage and increased risk of infections, diabetes.) But if the CNSV is not under control you will die. So you take all the medications and if you are lucky don't die from pneumonia which I know some folks who did and one was only 18 :( and then the drugs don't kill your liver you have a chance of going into remission where I'm at now. but I have to be careful because if I over stress my body I could relapse which I've seen happen to a lot of folks.So this is why it's so important for me to take real good care of myself! I have a website www.cnsv.net and we help people who have this condition.
Chrisd
At least your DH is doing something! I think people fail on eating plans because they do not find a plan that will realistically fit in with their life.
Fitmommy
If your finding it hard to cut out your sugar tea habit try Agave. You can find it at health food stores and it's legal and tastes BETTER then sugar.
So good to hear your DH is going home!
Well if your going to cheat at least make sure it was worth it right? ;)
WoodfrogThis morning I rolled over to give DH a hug and he says "Ouch my back" I asked what happend and he says the bed is killing his back. I said "Sweety it's not the bed it's the 20 pound beer gut that's hurting your back."
I usually don't say anything and maybe not a nice thing to say but it's true. He knows it that's why he didn't say anything. I just get worried about his health. I wish he would too.
BOBBeen there with the sinus infections. Makes you want to rip your teeth out. Banging your head against a brick wall would be less painful!
Good Saturday morning:
DH took Britt to have her blood drawn; bless her heart...she is such a trooper. I sent an ice pack for her to put on her arm while waiting in the waiting room. They will then go to Wal-Mart, Costco, PetsMart & Sprouts, so it will just be me & Lane for awhile. I hope she naps soon, so I can mop this filthy house.
I got wrapped up in an infomercial for the Ab Scissor by Body By Jake last night, and now I want it BAD! I was going to ask for it for my B-day, but it cost $250, and DH won't go for that, although he wants to improve his ab muscles too. They have a deal where you can pay $14.95 for one month trial, and send it back if you don't like it. He guarantees that you can lose a dress or pant size in 10 workouts, if you also do cardio and eat "right." OR, your money back. I taped it and am going to have DH watch it anyway. They had some reputable people on there who said overwhelmingly good things about it, as well as secret cameras up where people at trade shows tried it; everyone seemed to really like it. It would be difficult to justify spending $250 for a machine that only targets one area, although it is lower/upper and sides. Oh well...dream on!
I did get to the gym today; that makes 4 days this past week.
Just plan on cleaning up around here and getting some laundry done today.
Jack-K: I like grapfruit juice too, but cut all juices out when I started SB; might have to incorporate a little back in from time to time.
BOB: So sorry you are in pain; I hope you are feeling much better soon.
Country: You've been doing great on exercise this week; keep up the good work.
Sef: Everyone needs a lazy day every now and again.
heart: that's great incentive to be looked upon as aerobic instructor material. You go girl!! Did you only have one slice of birthday cake?
Teensy: that is a shame about your squash. Hope GM's bloodwork comes out well.
Monet: Have fun with the Arts festival; sounds exciting.
Gator: That dessert is making my mouth water!
Cheryl: So sorry to hear about your medical condition; that must have been a very scary diagnoses to hear/handle. Best of luck with treatment!
Well, I better get a move on!!
Have a great weekend.
Take care,
Hi everyone! I slept late. Now we are trying to get things worked out with cars. Tom's truck is having trouble, and Laura is trying to drive it to work. He just called and seems to have figured it out for her. Good. I have TOO much to do to go without a car today!
GATOR: I have had duck before...at a Czech restaurant in Chicago, and as Peking Duck...even made it myself. My son in law, the chef, swears by duck fat to cook with. He used a lot of it last Christmas, and it was rather tasty! I will have to look for it on menus when we go out. We tend to like more ethnic eating though. I love any kind of Asian, or Mexican. My son in law makes a cake like the one you described. It is SO good! If it had been me, I would have ordered my OWN piece! I salute you! :D
PANCHO: I am going to be interested in your opinion in that ab scissor thing. That is one thing Tom would love to develop better. I think his problem is that he is a tad hyperinsulinemic, which makes dropping the last few pounds of ab fat really hard. He started using my DietPower software, and has gotten really serious about it lately. I love it, cause it rubs off on me! :)
Time for a shower...then off to Costco, and Petsmart. The devil kitten destroyed my bottle of fish flake food, so the poor fish need more food! I need a squirt gun to get him under control! He is SO curious!
CHERYLCO: Do you have Lupus, and that is what triggered your CNS vasculitis? I have Lupus. Thankfully, my symptoms have not required prednisone, or other heavy hitting drugs. It has been managed with anti inflamatories. My husband jokes that my immune system is like a pit bull...if there is nothing to attack it chews on the furniture. :rolleyes:
Cherylco--Hashimoto's disease, which I have, is also an autoimmune disease. In my case my body attacks the thyroid. It thinks it is a foreign object. My doctor said that they don't really know why the body does things like this, but one factor is often mercury in our system. So often we get it from the mercury leaching from the amalgam fillings in our teeth. Every holistic doctor will suggest having the amalgam fillings removed and replaced with gold and/or composite (the white stuff). Often they will give you pills to "detox" your system and get rid of the mercury that has settled into the cells. Sometimes, after this, the body settles down because it is no longer reacting to the mercury that was in your system.
I'm so sorry you have this bad disease. We'll be praying that you will stay in remission forever!!
Lunch today: the leftover 3 slices of duck and my DH's leftover lamb. Steamed broccoli.
Took a 2 mile walk right before lunch. Walked pretty slowly--20 minute miles.
Probably will have grilled cheese sandwich for snack today because I have not had any bread or other starch yet.
Will be studying French the rest of the day. My DH is gone all day for a golf tournament for our church. So just getting little tasks done--cleaning the linen closet, washing clothes, etc.
It's absolutely beautiful over here on the West Coast of FLA today...the temp
Had to go to the beauty shoppe and get my head shorned...didn't really feel like going, but had the appointment and couldn't risk having to wait another two weeks! I feel like ch*t, but some things a woman can't put off! I've got one of those gel squares covered in flannel that you can put in the nuke box.
Hey all!
This week has been busy so I haven't been on the board since Tuesday or Wednesday--next week will be even worse (or better from a business standpoint). It's an even-numbered year so I am getting campaign organizations set up for my political clients. I will only be able to pop in briefly to say hello next week--what does Deb call them--"drive by posts?" LOL!
Gator--I did read that article you referenced. Sadly, it is all true and in fact possible a little worse. The university has been in turmoil ever since I've been here (almost 10 years). This is the culmination of all the turmoil and--as they say--push coming to shove. Walker's resignation was welcome, but a surprise. Housel resignation have been rumored to be immenent for YEARS! I'll believe it when I see it, but it is long overdue. We should have five new trustees (the BOT is the major culprit in all the troule) in a few months that hopefully will begin to turn things around. The Gov. seems serious fixing things around here. I have no idea what will happen with the B program (around here no one much cares about BB). It's a mess. Word on the street is that there were, in fact, two trips to Louisville and that a contract with Petrino had been signed. Who knows? Sign.
I hope everyone has a good weekend!
Hi Monet: I doubt seriously that I will get the machine; I told my DH I wanted it and he told me to think of something else (less expensive). He hasn't watched the infomercial yet; I'm going to have him watch it tonight, and then see if he wants to get it as a joint gift down the road. I think we should at least try it for the 30 days. You can check it out at www.bodybyjake.com. It is called the Ab Scissor, and is one of the sections off to the left side.
We used a spray bottle with water to train our Golden Retriever when she was a puppy. A trainer told us not to since Goldens are drawn to water, and that might discourage her from "playing" in the water. We didn't listen, of course. It was the best training tool ever; I still pull it out from time to time, and she stops whatever she is doing and walks away, and she still LOVES to play in the water.
Talk to you later!
Take care!
HiedieHo All!
When I tried to get here earlier I couldn't open the page. Don't know the problem, when I tried another site had the same thing, maybe something with my provider.
Have not done anything spectacular, cleaned the bathroom, showered, stitched, caught up on mail. Real exciting day so far!!!
HEART: Good for you!! Sometimes we don't recognize things in ourselves, but apparently your exercise class saw what you don't. You must be quite an example to them to be nominated.
FRUIT: You need to take care of yourself! I tell you I think we do pass things around, there is so much in common here with all our illnesses and complaints! You must be feeling better, parade and party all in one day! Oh to be young!
MONET: It is a great feeling when something you work hard on comes to life. Also it's a compliment to you that your son's friend felt comfortable sitting and talking with you. Sometimes the kids aren't interested in us old folks! I love pink grapefruit but don't indulge too often, supposed to interfere with blood pressure medications! I swear if it's not one thing it's another!
GATOR: Pardon me while I wipe away my drool! Meal sounded decadent! Love duck.
CHERYL: Sounds like it's a damn if you do or damn if you don't situation with your meds and condition. Kill or cure has a whole new meaning! I pray that you will stay in remission. I have learned more medical things here than I ever did working with the head traumas!
PANCHO: That's a lot of money. You could probably do some ab exercises at the gym. Remember if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't true. I wonder how much these miracle things work. Right now the FDA is working on a law that would take some ads off TV for false advertising. So be careful.
The day started out pretty but is getting dark and dreary. HAd the windows open this a.m. but think it's about time to close them. "Arthur" says it's going to rain and he doesn't like the damp!
Feel like a nap. Boredom?
Take care, Shirley
Wanted to drop in & say :wave: to all.
Needed to go grocery shopping today but chest congested again & fixing to rain, intermitten drizzle, so DH went & I'm staying inside.
Made Rosalie's chicken & bulgar wheat recipe last night & dh & I REALLY enjoyed it! Was tempted to eat too much of it, as we liked it so much. How many sevings was it suppose to make? Anyone??
Lyn, gald to hear Ray is home & doing better. So good that dd could spend a little time with you both when you needed her support. Knitting is so much fun & especially when you can share it with someone.
Debelli, Glad to hear Lauren's party went well. Looking forward to seeing pics!
SEF, Glad to hear your shoulder feeling better. Thanks for the email goodies. Sure did enjoy the responds!
Jack-K Hope your PT is helping. I also have 2 bulging discs, but my chiropractor helps to keep me on my feet. I know some people don't think much of them, but I would hate to think what shape I'd be in without mine. Hang in there girl.
Fruit, 10 lose is wonderful. Continue doing what you've doing to keep it going in the right direction!
Welcome newbies!! So glad you have joined us!
Sorry I can't respond to everyone. I'm sure I missed some, but brain in a slump today & don't remember anymore of the posts I scanned through. Later! :wave:
Hello from the warm and sunny south!! ;)
It's been a fun Saturday...DH is on a 24 hour shift at the firestation and me and the girls went Target shopping(lots of good bargains)...we have been outside rollerblading and rollerskating(well, I walked cause I had to hold them up!) But it was a fun day. Well, as for anymore excercise...zip! I have got to get on that treadmill later or tomorrow. (or both) Hubby and I had a kind of free day yesterday...mexican food which was all legal except for the chips of course and then we had a DQ Blizzard of all things! We decided when we started this WOE on New Years that we'd have a dessert once a month so we wouldn't go totally crazy on this and feel deprived. Our family has done "one dessert a week" for two years now...we call it dessert night and the kids just love it. We usually have fruit/yogurt on other nights and they don't mind thank goodness.
I will definately try the Agave in my tea!
There are a few things I can't decide if they are legal:full-fat cream, Fiber 1, whip cream and grits?????
Sorry for all the questions...I just write them as I think of them!
Have a blessed weekend! :wave: ;) :thanks:
It ate my post! I said howdy to almost everybody..wah...hear me whine. :)
I just got off the phone with Deb a bit ago and she sends her love. She doesn't know when she will be able to make it online. Life is full and blessed right now. But she is thinking of everyone.
I have two loaves of WW SF banana nut bread in the oven. I'll get this crew eating healthy eventually..LOL
Going4fit...Grits are a no-no but I use cool whip on occasion and I also use whipping cream with splenda. I'm sure someone can tell you if it's legal for sure. But it's legal for me. :D
I really want to rewrite what I wrote earlier but I don't have the time. Please know I'm thinking of you all.
Love and hugs,
Crystle
TEENSY: PM me your address. I went to Harry's today and got you an assortment of 70% chocolates. You are going to love em! Consider it a peace offering for laughing at your refrigerator freezing! ;) I have a nice box ready to mail...it just needs to have the right address on it!
GOING: Grits are made of corn and corn is NOT allowed in any way shape or form! I would think some whip cream, in moderation, would be ok now and then. Full fat cream on SB is probably a no no, since you are supposed to be eating lower fat. I don't eat Fiber 1, so I can't comment on that. Is it corn free, and whole grain, with less than 3 grams of sugar per serving? If so, then its ok! Your dessert night brought back memories. We always had dessert ONLY on Sundays. The kids really looked forward to Sundays when they were young. Now, they are older, and eat sweets all the time! I tried! ;)
Hey y'all
We didn't make it to Baton Rouge today for the parade - I'm just feeling like crap. So, I went upstairs and packed Mardi Gras beads. I'm trying to get everything done so that I can get that upstairs clean before my company comes! We did go to the party for about 2 hours. I drank water. :D I did eat a few off plan items but not much at all. I really wasn't in an eating mood. I was really just in the mood for some egg drop soup from the chinese rest. but Terry doesn't eat chinese food! Oh well, we came home since I was feeling like pooh and now I'm going to bed! See y'all tomorrow!
Good day:
I went to the grocery store this morning, and only spent $135; that's really good for me. I am going to make some chili spaghetti and a salad for dinner. It is a cold rainy day here today; I think it is supposed to get to 55 degrees or so; that's cold for us.
I got tickets for Disney Princesses on Ice for January 31st; Brittany will LOVE it, and I think Lane will enjoy it too. It is the day before my B-day, so I will see if DH will take us out to dinner afterward. I want Mexican----and I don't know if I will be legal or not :s: . The superbowl is on on my actual birthday, so I won't plan on doing much of anything that day.
I did have my DH watch the Ab scissor infomercial and he seemed to be impressed; we'll see...I'll bug him about it in another week or so. He started to figure taxes, and it looks like we will be getting quite a bit back, so $250 will be just a drop in the bucket. It has a lifetime warranty too.
Sef: I know what you mean; there are a lot of companies out there that do a lot of false advertising. The mineral make-up that Fillise and BOB "brag" about is something I have seen advertised before, but never ordered because I thought it was too good to be true. BUT, now that I tried it, I will never use anything else. Also, Body by Jake has an extremely good repuation and comes highly recommended, and has a lot of credible sources. They do have a money back guarantee. It might also be a great tool when I start personal training; it folds up so I could take it with me, if I wanted to. Hope your weekend is going well.
goin4fit: I love Mexican food, and could eat it for BF, lunch & dinner daily!! I want to go for Mexican on my birthday next weekend; there's a new place in town that is supposed to be phenomenal. We go to DQ after church every other Saturday night; it keeps Britt good and quiet at church, knowing we will be stopping there on the way home (if she's good). I usually get the "no sugar added" dilly bar, but last night got a small hot fudge sundae to share with Lane. It was toooo good; good thing she is a little piggy and ate at least half of it.
Monet: You are soooo sweet to do that for Teensy; what a thoughtful person you are. Hmmmmmm......what can I not get here that you have there..... :lol: . Have a great Sunday.
Melf: Hope you feel better soon.
O.K., I'm starting to think that the SF vanilla that they use at Starbucks is giving me GAS!! I thought it was the broccoli yesterday, but I haven't had any broccoli today and I did have a Starbucks, and now....you better stay away. Thank goodness it is Sunday and I don't have anywhere else to go :lol: .
I am going to be really good this week, so I can splurge a bit on Saturday when we go to dinner. I hope Lane makes it through the show and dinner; I doubt it though.
Well, I better go think of something to make the kids for lunch.
Have a great Sunday!!!!
Take care,
Nat
WE'RE SAVED...JUST LOOK AT ALL THE NEW STUFF!!!!
NEW LOW CARB PRODUCTS!!!!!!
With the flood of low carb products to the point of ridiculousness, It won’t be long before we see the following:
1. Low carb bifocal contact lenses.
If you can’t be thin right away, with these at least you look thin.
2. Low carb shampoo.
To reduce that big ego.
3. Low carb Summer’s Eve.
For that “fresh” and thin feeling.
4. Low carb unleaded gasoline.
For that overloaded SUV.
5. Low carb reduced tar cigarettes.
Weigh less and cough less.
6. Low carb Bo-tox injections.
Reduces the “starchy” look from that botched facelift.
HiedieHo All!
Went to church and that's about it so far. Stitched last night, TV is lousy. Nothing on. Tonight the Globes love to see what everyone is wearing.
MELF: Poured here during church but has cleared up at the moment. Still very damp though. Hope you feel better.
GOIN4: Grits are corn, a no-no. I use NSA ice cream or SF. Whipped cream with sugar substitute is okay, but a little dab will do you. No Fiber 1. I like Kashi (not the honey kind) and really like Uncle Sam's cereals, Shredded Wheat, plain Cheerios not the flavored added ones, Oatmeal, Oatbran hot cereals. I use the Lite Cool Whip.
Believe it or not I'm chilly. The windows are open, a breeze blowing but it is damp. Really warmish out.
Will check later.
Take care, Shirley
Bob- you're a hoot!
Okay, guys, I SUCK! If the girls at my exercise class knew how I have been this weekend, I surely wouldn't be an example to follow! I haven't pigged out like that since the holidays!! I'm embarrassed writing this. And you know what, it all started with that damn bday cake!! I actually thought I could fool myself. One piece of cake turned into McDonald's for supper. Then today I ate 2 plates of Popeye's(chicken, biscuits, potatoes, slaw, fries), and ALOT of Doritos, and who knows what all else. And it all started with that one piece of bday cake. Geez. So I'm back up several pounds. Oh yea, and I haven't exercised at all this weekend. Well, tomorrow is another day and I'll be back on track again. When I get off the computer, I'm going to MAKE myself get up and do a WATP tape. Well, now that I've told the bad news...the good news is that I bought a pair of size 12 pants yesterday and they fit(well, maybe not today,lol). Right now I'm also wearing a 12 pants that I got from the thrift store. So I know what I need to do to get back on track and get to where I can wear some more 12's. I just wish I hadn't ate that stupid cake,lol. Alright, fixing to check the rest of my email and then get my lazy butt in gear.
I was diagnosed in May 1999 for the CNSV. I'm all done with treatments.
I took my last Imuran pill last August! So far no relapse. That is one of my strongest incentives to sticking to SB. I want to give my body every chance to be healthy!
One good thing to come out of it was when I woke up after my second stroke, I forgot I smoked! LOL
MonetNo I have Primary CNSV. People who have other conditions like Lupus will get secondary CNSV, meaning the medications caused it. They don't know what causes the primary. But from what I understand Lupus and CNSV are similar. Lots of fatigue and aches.
Love how your DH explains Lupus LOL
That is some interesting info on the fillings. I'm going to poll my group to see if they had a lot of dental work done. I know I did!
Loved the LCD plan! LOL :)
Way to go on the size 12"s!! :sunny:
Question on flours:
King Arthur 100% White Whole Wheat Flour
Unbleached, Unbromated, Unenriched
13 Protein; 1.5 Ash
A revolutionary new variety. A high protein hard white winter wheat lacking the bitter compounds of red whole wheat, so it's "naturally sweet" but with all the healthy high fiber and natural wheat germ of whole wheat. The first time better nutrition has been achieved with better taste!
King Arthur Stone Ground Whole Wheat Flour
Unbleached, Unbromated, Unenriched
13 Protein; 1.5 Ash
Stone ground 100% high protein hard spring wheat, in a fine grind. Whole Wheat is unenriched because it contains 100% of the wheat berry and thus the maximum vitamins and minerals including the wheat germ and bran.
Both of these are legal right?
Good evening. Glad to start a new week tomorrow. Last week was so hectic. My eating has been fine. Except I might not be eating enough. Seems like our house is having trouble staying warm today. Or maybe its just me, but its awfully cold outside. We've got ice on all our trees. Well got to figure out what to do with some hamburger for dinner tonight. Have a good evening....
It's me again..just unwinding before bed tonight. I did my 3 mile tape earlier like I said I would. At least I did something okay this weekend. Supper was "legal" but wayyy too much fat,etc. Didn't help that I had a NSA Klondike bar for dessert(like I needed anything else). Anyone following the grapefruit thing? I saw it on TV the other night. Halfway paid attention to it. So how much do you drink, and how often, and do you drink it like 30 min. before you eat? The reason I'm asking is because I found a can stuck in the cabinet,lol. I'm really getting better with my exercising, if only I could ever get halfway straightened out with my eating! I do the 3 mile tape with no problem now. I still get a good workout(sweaty, red-faced), but I feel like I can do a bit more. Leslie Sansone needs to come out with a 4 mile tape or a different version of the 3 mile one.
CHERYLCO: Yes, both those King Arthur flours are 100% whole wheat and legal. One is a white whole wheat variety.
HEART: I love the way you are always complaining about pigging out or eating too much, and yet you always seem to lose, and even with the up bounces, you have made so much progress! It doesn't matter if I stick on program like an angel, I never lose. You are going to get to your goal in no time!
BOB: Hey, want to do LCD together for a few months? I am so desperate for a loss, I will try anything! Do you think Eli will give us the coffee? If so, I think I can get the rest of the stuff. Let me know! ;)
GOING: Where do you live now? Did you know Whole Foods bought out Harry's? Its just not as good as it was anymore! It still has a lot of stuff I can't find anywhere else, though I much prefer the DeKalb Farmer's Market for prices!
This is the last time I post tonight, I promise! I was just fixing to get off this computer..pogo finally has made my eyes tired.
MONET- Thank you. BUT I only lose because I don't give up. However, if I didn't succumb to temptation all the time, I would have reached my goal weight a LONG time ago. No one to blame but me. I take 2 steps forward then 1 step back. But I'm still going to keep on stepping, so eventually, I will get to goal. I just wish that I had more self-control. I am totally addicted to food. You know you got it bad when you even dream about food! I remember hearing something about the average person thinks about sex, X amount of time during the day. With me it's not sex, it's food! I'm always thinking about what can I eat, when, what am I going to fix for supper today, tomorrow, etc..I'm a self-confessed food junkie! But when I confess to this board, I come clean with it. I may unintenionally leave off some of the bad foods I inhaled, but only because I ate so much crap that I forgot what all I had. But I feel that when I "confess" that I'm wiping the slate clean, for the time being, and I feel better knowing that tomorrow I WILL do better. And I do, for awhile...LOL.
