Hello - I was just wondering if anyone ended up signing up for the Discovery Health Body Challenge? By that I mean, actually going to the designated spot, and getting weighed in.

I was just curious to see how many ladies/gents from here went and got weighed. My mother and I were going to go, but a few days ago, I got this e-mail saying that they are going to be having a big turn out, (they said it was unexpected). They said the lines may be very long, and that there was a limited amount of supplies. So I just said Fooey on the whole thing, and decided it wasn't worth driving over 30 miles to stand in line for a long time, and possibly not get anything, but a weigh in.

There is a scale at my mother's house that I can use once a week, and that is fine with me.

So, did you go and get weighed? :) If so, how was it? Long lines? No supplies?

I know a few girls on the site went and the lines were really LOOOOONG, apparently they queued for hours :( and they only had 125 goodie bags to give away at each venue i think  they had to bring in more people to weigh people and they stopped checking everything (BMI etc ?) and it was just a case of jump on the scale in the end :( I would have been pretty disappointed at that!

It seemed like this whole thing was rather chaotic. Our weigh in was in a small store in a very popular shopping mall - under normal circumstances it's usually a zoo there. When I got the email to expect long lines, considering the problems with their website already, I said forget it and didn't even try.

I am still doing a challenge to April, just on my own terms.

Yeah I didn't go to the store for the weigh in. It was in Dallas and I'm in Arlington (about 45 minutes away). And I know how bad the Galleria is on normal days. But I did register online. We'll see how it goes. :D

I didn't go due to the fact that the nearest place is almost 200 miles from me...

I figured I would just stick with my own thing. Maybe that's a cop out... but I really don't think the whole thing was thought out enough to join. How terrible does that sound?

Anyway.....good luck to all in our own journeys to succeed!

Man, if we all feel this way I wonder what the people who went to the weigh in are thinking. What bothers me is that some people will just put total faith into something and not really look ahead. I know one of you guys said that it looks like a quick weight loss but what happens when you go back to eating normal food. I think even if you watched your portions you would gain something back. I know I have said this before and I know you guys have said it too but the foods are just not that thought out. Hopefully next year they will have it all worked out.

I joined online instead of going because like someone mentioned earlier, it was too far awat. I am doing my own thing also, but check their website for exercises, menu options and also to get an idea of what my stats should be in order to achieve fitness and lose weight. # calories, carbs, protein, fat, etc.

Ooops, i forgot about that  i said i would try and follow the mealplan ratios as well..but i have'nt..they only allowed me 850-1090 cals per day split into 5 meals but i'm having at least 1500 cals  i'm struggling on that too..i'm not exactly stuffing myself

I think that my calories for the day was 1200 spread out. It is the carbs that I cannot believe I eat so much of! Everytime I plan something out to eat I realize that the carbs can do me in. I think I should have about 22 per meal, and that can be one item at times! I need to find out the carbs in fruits and veggies I think.

Wow - sounds like the whole weigh in was probably a mess. GLAD I didn't go. :) I would have been VERY mad if I had to stand in line, just to get weighed. They REALLY wouldn't have wanted to put ME on T.V.

I have decided not to follow the discovery health website meal plan for me. Although the calories are in my range, I don't like the way the menu is layed out. There are a few good recipes I'd like to try though. (There are a few recipes I'd like to try...but SEEM to be missing a few ingredients.)

So I guess I'll be doing my own thing! :)

I hope everyone is doing well!

Jolee95..mine is 22g of Carbs per meal too..i've just looked..the carbs do me in too :( i mean what can you eat for that amount? one slice of bread? there are carbs in everything it is so hard to keep them on the low side and no matter how much protein i think i'm eating i can never meet the ratio on that either

Is it 22 carbs for everybody??? What's up with that? Did they decide to give everyone the same amount and maybe change it a tad to make you feel like they develope this for your own profile? Hmmmmm....

I've been eating much better this past week. I've been getting in more veggies. I love veggies.....so that is never a problem. Just need to figure which ones affect me more than others in the "gassy" area! :o

And my water intake is fabulous. The only thing I truly need to work on....is getting in more exercise. But I'm working on that too. I may not be fully going by this challenge, but I'm definately making better changes.

I'm the other way..exercise is no problem but drinking all my water is  but i drink lots of tea ;) I'm happy with how the past 4 days have gone and i'm sure that what i'm doing now will show results without going to the 'challenge' extremes :)

Cathy, I know what you mean, 22 g....that is not much! What sickens me though is that for many years I know I have eaten so many more than that (which is why I am here now!) I need to do some research and find some of the low carb items for snack and such. Or forget the carbs at snack and "save" them for the next meal. Hmmmmm. I do want to try out some of their recipes though. Doesn't hurt to try! :)
I have not really been following their exercise plan either...been doing my own thing. Walking, body ball, water aerobics. I would like to add some strength training in also.

Have a wonderful Friday!

jolee95, I don't think carbs are a bad thing  i've followed the 60/10/30 ratio in the past and it works fine :D i don't think that its necessary to cut carbs down to a minimum..and whole grains are good for you. I'm not following the exercise plan either :( as long as you move thats the main thing

I agree that carbs are not bad, I know that I for one could not completely eliminate them from my diet ever. I am watching how much of what kind go in, though. I weighed myself this morning and down to 242, so 18 lbs gone! I am so excited! I will probably just follow my own exercise plan....water aerobics, body ball and treadmill for now. I got Pilates for Dummies at the library (VHS) so will try and check that out this week :)

Well guys I actually went to the weigh in. I weighed in at Haywood Mall in Greenville SC. It was crowded but not too bad. It is all in how you look at it. I told my weigh in story on another thread so I will copy and paste it below. I am gonna do this!!
Well I went Saturday and weighed in for the Discovery Channel Body Challenge. It went pretty well. My neighbor went with me. We drove 30 miles to the only location in SC that they were having weigh ins. We got there right after the mall opened and thought we would be one of the first in line. YEAH RIGHT! There was a big winding line as soon as we came anywhere near the weigh in area. One of the staff members came down the long line to us and handed us a card. We were number 157 and 158. He told us that we were in the 3rd hour time slot and to come nack at 12 noon!! It was only like 10:15 then. Actually I did not mind all that much because the atmosphere was exciting. We went upstairs and sat on a bench that overlooked the weigh in area. We had alot of fun watching what was going on. They only had one person weighing and one person taking body fat percentages, yet there was one young cutie that had the very important job of filing the papers with weights and such in a small box on the table. We got such a kick out of this because that seemed to be his only job and he only had to file like 1 paper every 2 minutes. That is how slow things were going. As soon as they put that paper in his hands he rushed right over and filed it without waiting a second. It was sooooo funny!! Anyway we went back down to get in line for the 3rd hour group and finally got to the scales to be weighed at about 12:50 p.m. I walked up to the scale smiling and motivated yet a little nervous. I stepped on the scale....flicker flicker....ERROR. OMG I thought I was gonna faint. I kept thinking I was not gonna get to weigh in. Well the lady with the permanent smile that was the keeper of the scales asked me to step off and try again. She told me that thay must not have been set back to zero. Yeah right lady!! I knew why they read error so why did I put myself through that and climb back on? Because I am a glutton for punishment!!!! After trying twice and then three times, she finally directed me to a scale that was (thank God) right beside the first one. It weighed me without error and I am not sure that was a good thing. I weighed in at 343 pounds!! That is the most that I have ever weighed. I was shocked in a way but then again I knew that my clothes were fitting alot tighter. After that I had my body fat analyzed. I am 49.2% fat. So now it is out and it is official. Now it is time to make those numbers go down for good!! I received a really cute "get fit kit" for weighing in. It consisted of a cap, a nice little tape measure, a really neat food and exercise journal, Secret deodorant, and a chap stick that goes around your neck for walking outdoors. Everything had the Discovery Body Challenge logo on them. The little chap stick thingy can be used with any chap stick. I also got a free 3 month memebership to a gym but it is too far from me so it is a no go. All in all it was pretty fun!
So now it is time to get down to business. I am gonna use that "get fit kit" and get rid of these pounds!!! I have to go back and weigh out on April 3rd and I am hoping to be under 300 by then. I know that is an ambitious goal but I always lose alot the first few weeks because I am so heavy and it really only comes out to less than 4 pounds a week.

Hugs,
Tracy

Congrats on making it to the weigh in! It sounds like it was pretty exciting for you, and a great motivation! Good luck, and trust me, the mind is very powerful and with this I think you WILL be able to hit goal by April. For me, it is kind of the shock factor once I get those numbers, it is an instant light in my head saying, I HAVE TO do this. I do not know my body fat percentage, but I am very sure it is close to yours. I took a step forward today and registered with a heart clinic to have my blood drawn on Sat morning (at 730 am! Ack!) I believe it is a full work up, and then I will go on the 7th to weigh in, get fat percentage, and analysis. For $20, a bargain I believe! I have been wanting to do this for so long and have honestly been scared to do it. But with my recent loss and my conviction to stick with it, I want to know what I need to do so I can avoid any health problems in the future. (Still nervous though...lol)

I received a sheet in the mail that I need to fill out a daily food diary for one day to take with me. I decided since I am doing it for that I may as well try it out on my own also. Going to give fitday a try to see what my calories actually end up being a day. My problem is when I make combo meals (casseroles and such) not sure how that works. Guess I will learn :)
Feeling less nervous about going, I think that I will be fine when I get there. I am curious to see what all the numbers will be, though!
