For any of you who don't know this thread, it is a really low key thread where each poster is generally doing their own plan. We are here to give each other support. More than likely we'll mention what is new with our pets as well. Welcome to this thread. Lurkers are welcome to join in at any time.

It is really getting cold here. It was in the 20's today, but it's supposed to get even colder by the end of the week. We also had some snow showers come through last night, which left 2" in its wake.

Aw, your cute avatar is gone. I hope you can put it back. We have just had a cold snap but temps. are going to be back in the low 50's soon. We weren't as cold as you though.
You know, I feel like I am starting all over again. I have been playing around w/ doing some before shots w/ the digital camera. Oh boy, it is really depressing. I think they are going to be a good motivator for me. Also, yesterday I spent some time cruising around on the internet at other diet sites. I thought I'd post something I found that I have really been thinking about since I read it. It is really long, but is a great success story. This lady did the BFL Challenge, if you haven't read the book it is a contest using BFL food supplements, actually I don't know all the rules but that is what she won. If you get a chance to look at Bill Phillips "Eat For Life", his new cookbook, she is one of the before/after pics and they truly are amazing.
Her talk about consistency, which side of the fence you want to be in, and how you fuel your body is really good.

I'd like to preface what I have to say with a little "confession"... The last
few months have been so UNBELIEVABLE for me!
But,up until a few months ago I was carrying around a lot of Extra weight.And
many times I felt invisible to the world around me.A store clerk, or an auto
mechanic may have walked right by me to help someone else as if I weren't even
there.Although I lived in a Big Body,I felt small and insignificant.
Then, through the process of eating right and working out, my body began to
change.With Rob's help and by Just DOing IT, or what I like to call...I "Forrest
Gumped" it. Meaning I just did what I believed was right and thought would
work,and I did it, and I did it, and I did it...Until one day,my body was
Suddenly, people began stopping me on my morning runs asking me,"Hey,how much
weight have you lost?" "WOW, I can't believe it!" they'd say. Then, EAS called
and told me I'd won. WOW! Mind Blower! Mark, the gentleman that interviewed by
phone for EAS asked me, "Hey, What did you do to develop THOSE abs?"
Now, people see my transformation pics and immediately they'll say, "Great job!"
or "AMAZING!", or something similar.
The fact is,I've Never won ANYTHING before In My Life!!! and I've been around
for FORTY SIX YEARS NOW!(Laughing) You have no idea what EVERYONE'S words of
praise and adulation means to me.(Tears are streaming down my face as I type
this.Tears of Great Joy!)My life will Never be the same!
Now, for the Great news for Everyone reading this now who hasn't won or attained
their transformation yet... I was reading a message left by someone,pleading to
know What I did to achieve such a transformation? What did I eat? How did I work
out?...The same questions many people ask. The difference was "Uncle Steve's"
reply to her questions...WOW! HE BLEW ME AWAY.It's so true.The Most Profound
Truths are so simple.But, Steve Captured my Whole philosphy in less than a

Now, my confession...A part of me, the Very selfish part, would love for
everyone to think, "Wow, that Mina is REALLY something! Did you see HER pics?
I don't think I'll Ever tire of reading those Wonderful things...But the Truth
is, I have done NOTHING that ANYONE reading these words can't do themselves!
Let me be Specific...I lost 85 pounds in about 11 months. That breaks down to
about 7-8 pounds per month and fewer than 2 pounds per week.I think we'd all
agree that less than 2 pounds per week is healthy, but Not extraordinary,
right?The beauty of this is, even if I lost only a pound per week, or had twice
as much weight to lose...I'd still get to where I am today...it would just be a
11 months later.
I guess the message I'm trying to convey is that I AM SPECIAL!, but so are WE
ALL!I did achieve a beautiful transformation. But so can we ALL!
Just do what I did. Forrest Gump it!
My feelings about what worked for me can be summed up in one word CONSISTENCY!If
you read what Bill Phillips has to say about Food and Working out and follow
what you learn for AS LONG AS IT TAKES to reach your goals,Guess what...You WILL
reach your goals.The key is to Do it UNTIL... and then you WILL!
I used to get on the scale after working out like a crazy person for a month and
find that I'd actually GAINED weight and all Rob had to say was,"I know hon.Now
go eat a clean meal and get ready to go to the gym." PROFOUND!!!
I'd have an Awful day at work and be on the verge of tears and ready to dull the
pain with "FOOD" and Rob would hold me for a lil bit then gently tell me to get
dressed for the gym.
Today, and for months now, MY ANSWER FOR EVERYTHING is: "Eat clean and work
"OMG, the IRS wants to audit us and the car just fell apart"..."Great!Let's eat
clean and work out!" (laughing)
You get the idea.
I used to watch the BFL Champions on the video's and think, "Wow, they're so
lucky!and they're 'special'..." Now that I've been named a Champion, I can tell
you with Absolute certainty that Uncle Steve is right,we're ALL capable of
Remarkable Transformations!And it doesn't take "super-human" effort.
Get it in your mind that You Will Achieve an Incredible transformation!Don't
just believe it. KNOW IT!Eliminate ALL the doubt! Whether you lose weight this
week or gain weight the next is INCONSEQUENTIAL!You WILL WIN! Then, just Eat
Clean and Work out, and do THAT over and over and over until you reach your

When I first started the Challenge last year,I had my boyfriend (literally)
cover ALL of our mirrors to just above my eye level so I wouldn't have to see
myself.That's how much I loathed my body (myself).It took months of "coaching"
from my boyfriend to make the shift from loathing to LOVING my body and I feel
THAT shift was the MOST necesary for My transformation to take place.
Looking back, I now realize that changing my body truly was 80 plus percent a
Mental exercise...and 20 percent or LESS was physical...On an average day,I'd
spend 1-2 hours working out...The REST OF MY DAY was spent "THINKING".And my
THINKING determined whether I WORKED out or not in the first place, what I ate,
what kind of workout I'd have (intensity) that day,etc...
Just like I did 12 months ago, people ask me ALL the time,"Mina, what do you
eat?What supplements do you use?Tell me Exactly how you work out..."
Those things ARE important, but for ME, the most important ingredient is
Mindset.Get your mindset right and your body WILL follow.
My boyfriend gave me his "fence" analogy. "Mina" he said."You have to decide
once and for all what side of the fence you TRULY want to be on. One side of the
fence supports all the things you've done up until now to get your body into the
overweight condition you find yourself today." "The Other side of the fence is a
new way of life.That healthy,FULL OF ENERGY body that you want is there.On that
side of the fence,food is Fuel!Exercise = ENERGY!"
He'd tell me after I cheated,"Hon,I'll love you no matter what side of the fence
YOU choose to live,but it's time to get OFF the fence."
Once I'd made the choice and Committed to living on the Healthy" side,it became
easy (easier) to make decisions about what to eat,etc... Today,I constantly ask
myself,"Is this thought supporting my decision to have an Awesome body.If it
doesn't,I check again..."What side of the fence do I want to live..."
OK ok...I got carried away...

If I were asked, "What was the key to my transformation",I'd say without
hesitation,"Mindset!" Decide what side of the fence you want to live then put
Every ounce of energy you have into supporting that decision!

FOOD!!! As you can see in my Jan. 2000 (Before pics) food USED TO BE one of my
favorite topics! My perspective about food has changed a little since then. lol
It had to before I could ever change my body in a significant way.
A couple things before I get started.
I know some people look at my pictures and they think, "WOW! This woman made
such a change...she must really KNOW how to transform a body...!" The truth
is,I've learned through trial and error how to change My Body. And when I look
back at my transformation it was really a Very simple process.
The simple secret to my transformation (if there is one) is that I took a look
at the things that would help support my physical transformation...Things like
food,working out, Mindset,etc... and I set a Minimum Standard for myself. I
said, " I know if I eat 'this' food and workout 'this way' everyday for 1
year...then in 1 year I'll be where I want to be. I found a MINIMUM STANDARD for
myself that I would not breach...and I "lived" that standard for one year.
I didn't have Free Days, because I've had an eating disorder (bingeing) for
decades now and my "mind" says, "if I eat certain foods, my 'diet' is OVER!" and
I may not get back on track for days/weeks/months or even years. Sad, but true.
Again, let me Emphasize...My way is NOT the right way....It's just my way. OK?
I didn't have Free Days...but I "Cheated" many times throughout my
Transformation Year. MANY TIMES! And. if it weren't for my boyfriend (whose name
is "Rob" by the way), Who hammered unrelentlessly the idea of forgiveness and
self love into me Constantly, the changes I made would've been impossible.
Before last year,I didn't know I could "fall" (cheat- I know it's a harsh
word,but it's the only one that 'fits' for me.) and Still Win...But I did fall,
almost monthly,sometimes for a few days in one month...but I got up,brushed
off,and got back on...The Key is getting back up as often as it takes until you
reach your goal!
Okay, back to food... Rob "painted a picture" for me once that really hit home
for me. He said, "Hon, imagine we go down to the Car Dealership and pick up that
Brand New B'mer you want.We drive it off the lot, and in a day or two the car
needs gas. So we pull into the gas station,I go to the back of the car, and pull
out a shovel. I find a nice hill of sand and begin shovelling the sand into the
Gas Tank of the car!. Sounds Crazy, Right? But isn't that what you do to your
Body everytime you eat "certain" foods? And how much MORE VALUABLE IS YOUR BODY
THAN ANY CAR???"
OK, point made...So today, "Food is Fuel" for me. That's it!
What do I eat/drink? (again, this is what I've learned works for Me...People
have asked...so I'm telling.)
I drink only water. A minimum of one gallon per day.
I eat at least four meals per day. I'd love to eat six, but I rarely do. I
believe if I ate six, my body would make changes faster...but I believed if I
consistently ate 4 "clean" meals a day,in one year I'd be where I want to be and
it proved right.
I recommend 6...
Every meal I eat has Protein,Carbs,and fat without Fail!
Each meal had one of the following: 4 ounces of lean meat or chicken, or 6
ounces of fish, or 1 cup of Cottage Cheese (4%).I didn't add any oil (fat).
Usually, I assumed the animal proteins contained enough fat already.
My carbs: I can eat as much lettuce,brocolli,cauliflower,cabbage, cucumber as I
want , usually around 2-3 cups. I also enjoy HUGE frozen red or green grapes
adding 25 or so to a given meal.
I avoided "processed foods" (with the exception of Cottage Cheese and SALSA
which I often made myself)
Sometimes I'd eat pop corn (3-4 oz), yes with 4 oz. of protein. lol
In a typical meal, I may mix salsa into 6 oz. of tuna.
A common meal for me is: 1 cup cottage cheese, 2 Hot House Cucumbers,1 large
Tomato, 1 white onion, Dice everything, mix them together and eat. Followed by
25 frozen grapes.
Above,I've listed the only foods I allowed myself. A small amount of added salt
sometimes...that's it. For me ,it's simple.And simplicity works for me.
I want to reiterate, The way I eat may be Totally wrong for someone else. It's
the "way" that's worked for me. If I were starting out,I'd follow the
suggestions of a Bill Phillips or a Barry Sears, someone with YEARS of expertise
before I'd follow someone who is still "experimenting". OK?
For me today, "Food is Fuel". and after leaving much of my body's (previous) fat
in the past, I can say without hesitation that, "Thin truly does TASTE BETTER!"

2000 was intended to be the year of my Physical Transformation.2001 is the year
of my Financial Transformation.I've begun a business from home and am

I think I am not really committed to weight loss at this point...I joined a new book club and two of the books I ordered were "Thin Within" how to lose weight by internal cues etc. and then I ordered the special 50 year commemorative Betty Crocker Cookbook.
Does anyone know how to post an avatar with a digital camera? I want you all to see Marley (handsome fellow that he is).
We have been without power for a few days. I read "The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant during that time. What a great read ... just the kind of thing when one is forced to do nothing. We are ok for power now. THe snow is melting and we hope by Sat. we will be able to get the motorhome and my car out and we are gone to California:cool: We plan to go to Death Valley for a holiday after DH finishes his work stint. (Plus I need a good USA grocery shop.)
I plan to post from the road. We have some new internet connection, I hope this one works.

It is -8 deg. as I am posting. Yesterday it got to 3 above, but it was awfully windy so made the temps feel -20 deg. or colder. I did not go out at all.

I have started reading Cold Mountain. It starts off very differently than the movie. But, I am glad I saw the movie first.
ledom, thank you for posting that article. After reading it, I have discovered that I'm sitting on the fence and I have to decide which way I want to go. Some part of my brain knows I need to lose weight, but another part just doesn't seem to care.

Good morning girls. I'm glad you liked the post. Different things at different times motivate me and for some reason I really responded to this gals story. Call it, New Year Dieter's syndrome but I am fired up. I am trying to ride the wave to really have a great year and finally reach my weightloss goals. But I hear both of you and where you are, I have certainly been there well enough to understand it.
judi, a trip to sunny Ca. sounds like what the Dr. ordered. Have fun. How is your daughter doing now? I bet she is really getting anxious to have the birthing part behind her. I know you are excited!
I haven't read Red Tent. That is a good suggestion as I need a new book. Alice, I still haven't seen Cold Mtn. I did read the book first and I am afraid I'll be too sad. I am a movie wimp! I know I will see it eventually though, I read a great review of it yesterday. I saw Lost in Translation last week and loved it, can't remember if I mentioned it.
Oh, I had such much fun yesterday. I got my hair cut really short. Over the last year I have gradually gone from over shoulder length. Seems everytime I go in I want a little more taken off. Anyway, I am really happy w/ it. I also bought way too much new make-up at Chanel. I think I have actually become addicted to their products. Anyway, mucho fun having a makeover.
judi, D goes back to campus Sun. It is really bittersweet, we have really reached a bit of a breaking point. It has been hard for us to live together this past 3 weeks and she will probably move from the dorm into an apt. in the Spring. Neccessary for both of us to get on w/ the next step, but also hard. I think I am glad my post on our bad night got lost in the crash, but we finally were able to sit down last night and talk about that night with much more kindness toward each other. She really is a good girl and I do have faith in her.

Hi all, hey was up 4.25 today and that was in 2 weeks. lol but i have started today being a good girl. not any sweets. craving them but leaving them alone. got to start up with that again. other then that just watching my eating and portions. then see how it goes. just so tired of plans. i never got my walk in had tops this morning then was dark when i wanted to go out. so will ride my exercise bike tonite. weather is better and i love walking.
Ledom. hey your makeover sounds neat. i am thinking of starting to use makeup. i am so allergic to everything. so will have to find some i can use. use to wear Mary Kay and liked it. then just quit it. but i am ready for a change to. want a different hair style also. i wear it short. cannot get a perm because of allergic reactions. so it has to be worn straight. sounds fun your going and getting all of it.
Aleka, Hope your day was good. hope you stayed warm. and woof tuffy says to lacee. hes so glad snow and ice are gone.

Hi LaDean, I hear you on the weight gain. I just didn't hold it together over the holidays and then it was so hard to get all the cravings under control. I had a couple of false starts too. I'd have a couple good days, then a couple of bad, I did that for about a week. I have just completed two good days and I feel like I am finally back on track. I have been working out a lot too. I love my new treadmill. I have a TV installed in front of it and that really helps keep my interest. Today I did 30 min. in the morning and 30 in the evening. I also did an ab workout. I start back to work on Mon. and I am trying to design my life so that I can keep up the exercise. I know it will be tough, I hope to hang on to my deteremination. I just plan on being stubborn about it. My little Brody kitty has been such a delight in my life. He has the sweetest nature of any cat I believe I have ever owned. He is a very good lap kitty. Anyway LaDean, just hang in there. We can do it! You'll get your sweet tooth under control and be back to your pre-Christmas weight in no time.

Ledom, the same with me on the hair...on Dec. 23 I got my hair cut the shortest since high school. It does feel good doesn't it. I like Chanel makeup too.
Ledom, about the D ... I read somewhere that the closer one is to an only D. the further away they have to go to seperate from the mom. I know my D didn't talk to me for about 2 months remember that?...it was good for us both I think, it was a first to go that long without talking. (Though I missed her.) We are back to our several times a day phone calls but I am WAYYY more careful of what I say to her now. She has had a good pregnancy and has been enjoying it. Her due date is Jan. 25.
4.25 isn't bad over Christmas LaDean, you will have it off in no time flat.
I am still going to do WW online this year. It is the best for me.
I spent today rushing around and I am still not ready.
I am taking a huge sack of books and my computer to amuse myself.

We're still in the deep freeze, it's a bit warmer this morning, -6 instead of -8. If it wasn't for the wind it probably wouldn't be as bad.
LaDean, 4.25 lbs. isn't a bad holiday gain. Your sugar cravings will diminish and eventually leave you. I ate quite a lot of sugary things around the holidays and all I got was heartburn. :( Have you tried using Almay makeup? I believe it's for people who are allergic to makeup. Lacee doesn't like this cold weather. One good thing, she doesn't stay outside very long to do her duties. Usually I'm standing at the door watching her sniff the ground or getting into someplace where she's not supposed to be. :nono:
ledom, glad you like your short "do". I bet it really looks great on you and easier to manage. How short did you cut your hair? I usually don't wear any makeup, except for mascara, eye shadow, and lipstick occasionally. Maybe it stems back from my Hippie days! :lol: I am more into Cold Mtn. the book, and as the saying goes, the book is nothing like the movie. Seeing the movie first, I'm thinking to myself, that wasn't how it was in the movie. :D

Alice - LOL at you and your referral to your hippie days. Weren't those just the BEST days? I have always loved fashion, but not make-up so much. I am also not really a girly girl so this is an anomaly. Maybe it has to do w/ my old hippie face? Good comment on D's that grow up close to you Judi. I can see the wisdom in that. We finally had a good talk where we communicated how we felt w/out disintergrating into accusations. I need to pull back. I have decided to do just that too. She is really looping far out there. I know it is time for her to spread her wings, but it is very scary to watch. Anyway, in the spirit of all this I am finding some new things to do with my time besides worry! I signed up for a yoga class yesterday. It lasts for 8 weeks and I am really excited about it.

Hi, i remember the song to. but do not know who sang it. yes its scary to see our kids grow up. but when mine were i always tried to remember my times at that age.ha then i just prayed and tryed to help in ways i could. we have to let go and its so very hard. i let go and now mine is back home. but loving every minute of it. shes not been married and its been good for both of us. shes older and has grown up more in ways. still have days but very few. ha ha so glad Ledom all is going ok.. You ladies are making me want to get my hair cut!!! It's so long now--longer than it's been since high school. I think the last time I got it cut was back in September. I am getting a trim this week, not a "cut," though. That's gonna happen in April or May. I'm trying to get it long enough to donate to Locks of Love. You have to have at least 10' and the last time I measured I had 7 1/2. By then it should be long enough.
I started walking again last Friday. I only walked a mile that day, Sat, and Sun. And I gained a pound. Sometimes I wonder why I even try.

Hi Cheryl, hey its neat your donating your hair to that. good cause for sure. I keep mine short as not a hair person fixing it and all. ha easier shorter. I am thinking sometimes of letting it grow little bit. then gets in that unhandle stage and off it comes. ha ha Hey keep walking. when i start after i do not do it awhile it takes almost 3 weeks to adjust to a loss. as i always gain at first. muscle weighs more they tell me is why. so hang in there and do what you can. it will help and add up. take your measurements i was losing them and not the wt. so was fun to see at least something was working. i got to get mine taken again now. i do them like every 6 weeks or sooner. it helps / have a good day. Just a quick check in to say hi and make my 1600th post. Geeze, I have been at this a very long time! Anyway, Cheryl don't stop walking - keep it up, it will pay off in more ways than a drop on the scale. I heard about Locks of Love on the Today Show recently. What a wonderful thing to be able to do.
I started back to work today. It went fine. I discovered I'd have to work really long hours tomorrow so I came home and did my workout I had planned for tomorrow. My first evening workout ever I think. It went fine. Today was to be rest day, but I feel great knowing that I have not gotten behind w/ my plans. I'm revved and rested now, I really really really want to keep this good thing going.

Cheryl, I agree with both ledom and LaDean for you to stick to your walking. You will eventually lose weight, you will lose size, and most of all you'll feel better. Did you weigh yourself right after your walk? In the past I have weighed myself right after exercising only to see a gain. What a thoughtful thing to do, growing your hair and donating it. It takes a special person to do that.
LaDean, has the weather gotten any better where you are so that you're able to walk outside again? How is Tuffy doing? Lacee says "WOOF"
ledom, kudos for you on getting an evening workout in. I don't know if I would be so dedicated and get a workout in. Monday I started using the Torso Trak again. I had started using it months ago, but pulled something in my stomach area, had to stop using it for a while, and just never got back to it. I am taking it very slow this time around.

Aleka, yes weather is great. i have been walking just never last nite. i rode exercise bike yesterday. tuffy is doing ok he loves this. not a rain lover though. but takes it before the snow and ice. ha I am glad you and lacee are fine. tuffy says woof.

Hey guys, just a quick hello. This is a long old day and the night class I teach starts in about 15 minutes. It is one of my favorites though. Sigh, I have been here since 8 this a.m. and it is almost 6 now. I packed 3 meals today and have eaten them all. Right now my head is just kind of floating around with things I need to do, I need to write some of it down so I remember, but then I just needed a break before that class starts.
Judi, I guess you are on the road now. Hope you are having fun. Grandbaby soon - let us know as soon as you can. Do you know what they are having?

It's 15 below this morning with a windchill of 30 below. Saw on the weather this morning that ontop of Mt. Washington it was 45 below with a windchill or 95 below. They say it's supposed to get even colder Thurs. night into Fri. morning. The only good thing I can say about these temps. is that it's keeping the snow storms away.
judi, my best friend is about to become a grandmother sometime soon. Wouldn't it be great if both your grandchild and her's were born on the same day?

Aleka, burrrrrrrrr do not freeze now.. that is really cold do you normally get that cold of weather. our weather has been its strangest this year. having rain this morning. but last 3 days sunny and warm. i do not mind the rain take it over heat or snow and ice. ha yes seems out of bad there is good. like your not getting the snow.. this is my attitude as of yesterday.ha to be joyful each day no matter what think of something good. if i have a bad eating day or meal. just move on and see what i have done not what i did. so with this wish all a good day. ha ha scales are looking downward this morning . now that makes me a happy one.. I am having a problem getting rid of the sugar habit I acquired at Christmas... :shrug: I was OK all day until tonight.
It was great to read your posts. I too remember that song..."Those were the Days". Was it Marianne Faithful (or Merilee Rush?) who sang it? I know that it is originally a Russian song (I have it on a CD) and then when the Beattles made their trip to the then USSR, they discovered it and brought it back and gave it to the girl singer who sang it. It is hard to believe that hippie days were more than 3 decades ago...seems like yesterday, eh?
It is so nice to see the sun. After a week or so off work we plan to take the motor home to Death Valley. I want to take some pictures at Zabriski Point and places like that. It is nice to be on the road. Did a big US grocery shop.

Judi, good to see you. I know your all excited about the trip and all. I am so happy your going. i love taking pictures so you will have fun doing that.You will love being a grandma. its the greatest. I have grandaughter 6 and grandson will be 5 valentines day. so i enjoy them so much. I remember when i was a first grandma it was the most thrilling thing ever. so i know your so very excited and all. I am getting off sugar again to. was doing so good before holidays. i blew it also. but just forgetting that and going forward to today and do better. have a greatday.
Cheryl, i was born in Arkansas. moved to Oregon at 5 though. Yes it seems like everyone is getting the unusal weather this year for sure. we are back to our rain now so i am happy about that to. i love walking in it to. If i catch it just right like last nite miss it when walking. ha i rode ex bike 5 miles and a walk yesterday. my scales are really down on this plan. I wait till 8 to take how much as that is when i weigh in on fridays at tops. so always get on them. but just did and down. so i feel so good.

Good morning everyone,
It's frigid again, but it's a bit warmer than yesterday, 8 below instead of 15 below. The temp is supposed to drop even more during the day today. On the news this morning they showed a boat going through Boston harbor breaking up the ice, which I don't ever remember seeing in my lifetime. The weathermen have been saying that this is the coldest it's ever been in half a century. We normally get cold weather, but not like this. They said this morning that overnight tonight Mt. Washington, which has the worse weather imaginable, will probably break a record. Hopefully when this passes by the weekend, or so they say, we won't be this cold again. Glad to see that everyone else is warmer.
LaDean, glad that you scales are starting to go downward. :cp: Lacee & I don't like this weather. She sits in my lap whenever I'm watching TV, at night she sleeps right up against me, so we do keep each other warm. :flame:
judi, the sugar cravings will become less and less as time goes by. I am at the point where I don't even want it, and when I do have it I get awful heartburn. Glad you're enjoying your trip. Right now Death Valley sounds so inviting.

You girls are doing so good with your plans you make me ashamed. I will give it my best shot today though. I have already been out for a walk with Marley and saw the most beautiful sunrise. We are in desert hills (high chaparrel, I think it is called.) Lots of interesting birds to observe, quite diff. than home.
I went looking at baby clothes...the D. says they have already enough in 0-3 month size so I should hold off until it is about 6 months.
I hope you are right about the sugar Alice. I know now if I eat even the smallest amount of fat I get the worst indigestion. That has cured me of pizza anyway. If I can do the same with sugar....I know when I was doing MT I was off of it. Well, I still am off of coffee...I never thought I could do that.
I feel sorry (not really) for my cat, he is sitting here on the table watching the birds outside. He wants to go out and wreck carnage amongst them...sorry kitty, you are an inside cat.
How is going with your treadmill Ledom?
Here is a delish. dressing recipe that I use all the time, it is 3 points per T. Not really low, but worth it.
1/2 cup nutritional yeast (not to be confused with baking yeast) It is found at health stores
1/3 c. soy sauce
1/3 c. apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 cups light oil (not olive) I use grapeseed oil.
-Blend in blender . Everyone who tries it likes it. (I cut an iceberg lettuce into 4 wedges and pour some of this over a wedge and eat a wedge at each meal)

Judi, yes when i got off sugar i felt so good and i never even craved it. you will do good. i am getting off it after holidays. so feel weak now as i had so much. but better. its just the smytoms i have getting off it. not as bad as when i first went off it. i first lefted the chips alone as salt and got high blood pressure. then figured hey licked that so go for the sugar. so then went on the Prism Plan. and it all went ok.
Cheryl, hey its so fun buying all those baby things. i loved it . i do not get so many things for them now. they are growing so cannot keep up with size. they did get new pjs from me for christmas with a movie . they loved them. Just enjoy and let us know just as soon as she has the baby. all excited and waiting i know you are. Your walk sounds so nice. i just see houses and cars.ha

Happy Saturday morning girls. It is the beginning of a 3 day weekend for me so I am happy. After one week back at work I need it to catch up! I came home and cooked last night. I have a little more cooking to do today and I'll be set for another week. I went to my yoga class Thursday night and loved it. I think I have lucked on to something really special, this class seems so authentic to me. The instructor is Indian, her yoga center is on top of the highest mountain in town with the most beautiful view. Well, I could gush on and on about her studio, but the result of the class was just so nice. It left me feeling refreshed and wonderful. I am looking forward to next week and thinking how to incorporate yoga during the week as well. Also, I think judi asked how I like my treadmill. I am so happy I bought it. It seems like 30 minutes on it gives me energy for the rest of the day. So far I find I have been crashing and burning on the couch in front of the TV a lot less lately. Definitely something that needed to happen. I am also losing christmas lbs. at a steady pace. I guess it'll take all of Jan. to recover but when I finally do I plan to once and for all break the weight that always is the stopping point for me. I have been there 3 times now and enough is enough. My cooking project for today is to make ground turkey meatballs and I am going to bake a spaghetti squash to go with them. Hope you are all well and enjoying yourself. Hope you are keeping warm Miss Alice.

It has gotten a bit warmer, it's in the 20's and 30's which seems like a heat wave. But, it is snowing out. Supposedly we're only to get about an inch, we'll see.
Well, girls, I've just about made up my mind to join WW again on Tues. They moved the meetings a little farther north, and yesterday DH & I went for a ride to find where they were. It's not that much further and is easier to get to than where the meetings used to be held. A month or so ago, when I went into WW to find a meeting I saw that they had moved. I looked for directions and they had me going so far out of my way. Then I went online again and the directions were different. Don't know if they moved or if they were wrong in the first place. I gave myself 2 weeks to do it on my own, but it didn't work. I also want to take advantage of the special they are having where you don't have to pay a registration fee, just the weekly meeting fee.
ledom, glad you are liking your yoga class. I have always wanted to try it. Do you only go once a week? Congratulations on losing the lbs. you gained around the holidays.
LaDean, that's nice you got a walk in. I can't wait until I'll be able to walk outside again. I do see people walking outside in this weather, but I can't stand the cold. Lacee and I are warming each other, so we're staying pretty warm.

Judi, Oh i know the time is getting more exciting day by day. i know when i was a first grandma it was my son and wife. but oh my i could hardly wait. waited for the phone to ring all day.. then when it did i let out a scream of joy. and we headed for the hospital. what a day. you will love it. A feeling that just cannot be explained really. Now do they know the sex of the baby?? Hey enjoy the weather and all the fun to. is so neat you could go and be with her. You just enjoy looking at all the baby things to this is just a beginning. i would go shopping and find my self in that area all the time. Prism is a group with Bible Study. no sugar and white flour products it amts to. got me off the sugar and all. so i am around the plan alot still. I do a Daily Bible study with my plan.
Aleka, good morning and hope your getting to be warmer and warmer, is time i would think.ha we are having our rain. which i really do not mind at all. It's not as cold as it was, but it's still pretty chilly. We're supposed to get back into the frigid weather tomorrow and they're saying it will only be a glancing blow. We'll see. :s:
judi, congratulations on your weight loss! 5 lbs.!!! That's fantastic. :cheer: Did you get WW fast track plan, the one you follow for 2 weeks? I'll be going to my first WW meeting tomorrow, but don't know if I will follow it or not. From what I've read, you eat 20 points for the first 2 weeks, no flex points, then after that you eat your target points. Glad that you're having a great time on your trip. Marley must have his winter coat. I know when we go to FL in the winter, poor Miz Lacee still has her winter coat and gets rather warm. Lacee doesn't like the cold weather, she goes out, does her duties, and comes right back in.
LaDean, let me know how you like the Kelloggs plan. DH & I did it a year or so ago and only lasted about a week. We were starving all the time. Hope you have better luck with it than we did.

ledom, that's great news about you losing weight. Keep it up! I'm sorry that your friend's marriage broke up, but since she's relieved it must be a good thing. It's tough going through something like that at any age, but I think when you reach our age you feel a bit more confident and independant than you did when you were younger. At least that is true for me.

I turtled this week. but got off plan some. the snacks. no sugar. i sure can feel getting off it this time after the holidays. lol my fault though. just light headed and weak and all. but i will overcome it. this has been a good week off it. I was happy cause was up alittle bit and loss that. so can not complain

I hope you get to your meeting this week. they say snow here for 1000 feet that is higher then us. so i am praying will pray for yours to. lol tuffy hates this rain to.. its pored here all day. i mean alot of it. but i just got in from a nice walk in it. daugher got me a rain coat with hood so no umbrella to get arm tired out. lol so out like a little duck i go. love the rain. then swept the curb down back and forth down 3 houses to get the water running down street and not so much at our end. so good exercise. blood pressure is good to. so all in all i feel so good and glad you do to..

aleka, hope all is going good your way with your ww. i got back on my prism this morning. it worked for me the first round . so i have had variety so is time to get back to it. has been awhile. i heard on Dr. Phil today that if at a plateau and not losing go to a different ex and plan to put body in shock and it will over come it. so this is what i decided to do. go back to my original plan.. going to add different ex to also . i have a cardio glider so going to do it some. or my dance steps. have a good day.

Well, I am a grandmother!!! A little boy, Nathan Andrew...he was 8 pounds. My D. had a good labor too, from first twinge until he was born was six hours. They were in the hospital two days. The kids sent me pictures over the email, of course, He is the CUTEST baby!! I immediately went out and bought tons of blue stuff because we didn't know if it was going to be a boy or girl. Bentley is so protective of the baby my D. says. I guess he knows that it a little thing.
I won't get to see him until the end of Feb. We are in Ca. now and are going to Palm Springs and my DH has a spate of work here in Feb. so there is no point going home until it is done. So it means staying in California until the end of Feb. Not exactly a hardship...except for missing the baby in its "new" state. We heard it SNOWED on the island today. Phew! I am sick of snow.
Alice, no I didn't know about WW fast track. I think the diff. is that I am walking with Marley more. I just feel like getting out in the sunshine (though it is still cold). How are you enjoying WW?

My message alert hasn't been working for this thread lately. Sorry I have missed the last several posts.
All is well here. I am working hard - too hard- but all is good. I love my yoga class, it is teaching me a lot about being content. I am reading some teachings on meditation as well and am curious to learn more and more. It has lifted me up a bit.
This coming weekend is "girl's weekend", we are going to the mountains for our annual winter retreat so I am very much looking forward to Fri. morning when I can load up the car and leave everything behind for the weekend.

LaDean, we haven't gotten any snow because of the really cold weather. The storm that's along the east coast really won't get to us, we'll probably get about an inch or two out of it. Good luck with your Prism WOE.
Took Lacee to the Vets yesterday for her yearly shots. She has been out of sorts all day, we're thinking the meds have finally caught up with her. She seems a bit more lively than she was this morning, so hopefully she's getting better. If not, I'll have to call the Vet in the morning to see if he can find out what's wrong. The poor little thing has been sleeping in my arms most of the day, she won't leave my side, and she's shivering.
I was supposed to go to a WW meeting this morning, but didn't quite make it. I woke up around 1:30 this morning and could not get back to sleep. I finally went back to sleep around 5:00 and when I woke up it was past 8:00, that's the time I have to leave to get to WW, and I still had to shower and have breakfast. I did get on the scales at home, which don't read the same as theirs. I was down 4 lbs. according to my scale, but I don't see how that possibly could be right. Next week will tell.

LaDean we live in BC, Canada. My DH is semi retired but keeps up with some work in Ca. My D. lives in Vancouver BC (about 30 min. away from us). We live on an island 20 min away from Vancouver.
Alice, How is Lacee feeling now? That is worrisome? Poor little thing.
I am glad you are enjoying your yoga Ledom. Are you still weight lifting? Have fun on your girls' weekend!

Yes, I'm still lifting. I have really been renewing my efforts on that front and also doing more cardio as well since I got my treadmill. Not that I can tell it is making a huge difference, but I think over time it will. Consistency in keeping it all up is my mantra for 2004.

Tuffy was on meds once and did that to him. he was so drugged out and having withdrawls. i tell you never again on those. its to sad. I hope shes better today.. Lacee is back to normal this morning. :devil: :dancer: She drank her milk this morning and was chasing her dogfood around the livingroom floor. Last night she was very hot to touch. We thought she may have had a fever. She was a bit more lively before we went to bed last night. We're really relieved that she's baaaaack! Thank you all for your good wishes.
LaDean, the scales will be going in the right direction soon. If you just started the Prism plan it may take a couple of days for your body to adjust. You're walking and that will help a lot. Glad that Tuffy is doing well.
judi, Nathan is such a nice name, I really like it. Are you still buying a lot of baby items? It's easy to spoil a new baby.
ledom, glad you're still lifting weights. If you're consistent, then you will see results. Are you still eating like you did on BFL?

Saturday morning Hi to all of you friends... Hey i done good yesterday.. i never exercised just took day off. but this morning i have rode exercise bike 3 miles already. i want to walk later. so far no rain. so should be out there. lol got to wake up little bit more. A log cabin on top of a mountain overlooking mountain after mountain w/ very little settlement to distract from the view. Anyway, lots of visiting, hiking, some yoga and meditation, good food....I feel refreshed and renewed. AND...I didn't eat too much, no chocolate or desserts. Though we had fabulous food, it was healthy and I think we burned off any extra calories with our hiking. I am headed to bed early, need to get my beauty sleep in my own bed. It is good to be home.

ledom, glad that you had such a good time with your friends and that you feel refreshed. I love looking at lights and I bet looking down in the valley was beautiful. Did you take any photos of the lights in the valley?
LaDean, the weather hasn't gotten much warmer. Supposedly today it's to be in the 30's, but I'll believe that when I see it. Since it's only 8 deg. now the temp has a long way to go. Sorry you haven't been able to get out walking. I see a few people outside walking in our freezing temps and can't understand how they can be out there. BRRRR!
Hi judi and Cheryl hope things are going well for the both of you.
Sat. we went down to Massachusetts to visit friends of our's. We had planned on taking my car, but ended up taking DH's truck. It's a good thing we did because we had been home for a little while when DH went into our garage and noticed I had a flat tire on my car. I drove it Thurs., and I know I wasn't driving around with a flat tire. He tried to change my tire yesterday, but you need a special tool to take the wheels off the car that is supposed to be in the tool kit that came with the car. Well..it wasn't there. He looked everywhere. We had taken the car in for service a while ago, they rotated the tires, and evidently didn't put that handy-dandy tool back where it belongs. DH will call the dealership this morning to see what they can do for us. I met a cousin of mine for lunch yesterday, so DH had to drop me off. His truck is way too big for me to drive.

ledom, yes, the flat tire is fixed. DH called the dealership and explained the situation. They sent a mechanic who was inexperienced in changing a tire on my type of car, with THE tool. So, between DH & the mechanic the spare tire was put on and later that afternoon DH brought the tire down to a local service station to see if it can be fixed, we'll know later today. The bad news is I need 4 brand new tires come spring. He did leave us that tool so now we have one. :headache: DH inspected the flat and thankfully I hadn't driven over any nails or any other sharp object. I too am glad that we weren't out on the highway when it happened. I met my girlfriend on Thurs. and I know I didn't drive home with a flat tire. Thank you for asking.

Thanks to all of you for the good luck wishes on my 1st test. I made a 100% on it, so I am very happy :) I probably won't get to take my next one until sometime in March--probably after I get back from my training session in KCMO.
I've been soooooo homesick lately! I talked to Stewart on Sunday & he was at a Superbowl party. I could hear all the folks talking and laughing in the background and it made me feel very lonely.....When we hung up I sobbed a couple of big sobs, cried a few tears and told myself to GET OVER IT! I'm doing slightly better, being back at work and around people, but I am cutting a diagonal across Arkansas as soon as I get out of the office tomorrow!!
Ledom, your getaway sounds wonderful. Sounds like what Mt. Nebo looked like when a friend & I went up there a couple of years ago. We didn't get to spend the night--just had a nice little day trip. We spent the morning at that Nat'l park that's north of Russelville (my brain is dead for some reason right now and I can't remember the name of it) and then we went to Mt. Nebo that afternoon. I'd love to spend a week there with Stewart some day. It was lovely.
Alice--ich. I hate it when I have to spring for new tires! Especially with my truck! Man, you get those big ones and you start talking some serious dough!! Hope your weather is good.

Hey girls guess what i went to www.diettalk.com another one i go to. well anyhows a gal had mentioned she put her portable dvd in front of her treadmill. time passes by fast. so i have my ex bike right in here. have a dvd player on my computer. and i got a dvd of Billy Ray Cyrus for christmas. what better way to petal away on the bike and watch and listen to him. so i put it on and away i went. well before i knew it was over and i had rode my ex bike 10 miles. yehhhhhhhhh i felt so good. it went so fast. so was worth it. and what better way to enjoy riding my bike. ha ha ha have a good day to all of you... Hi girls, Our weekend away was up very near your old home LaDean. We were in Ponca, Arkansas which is about 20 miles from Jasper. Heaven on earth, have you ever visited there Cheryl? I have been to Mt. Nebo, but not in a long time. Cheryl, sorry you are missing your boyfriend. It must be tough to be separated by the state, and diagonally at that!

Nice to read everyone's messages. We are back at our work place in Ca. We had a glorious week in Palm Desert. We are going to be here for a week then back to Palm Desert for another week and then home to Canada.
It is safe to say I have NOT been dieting...no matter how I kid myself. I gained 5 pounds this last week or so :( I would like to say I will get better but I don't know. It is inspiring to hear you are all on track.
The cat has lost weight though, the dog has been running him ragged.
Your weekend sounded great Ledom. Cheryl I am sorry to hear you were homesick. THat is an awful feeling. Alice I am glad Lacee is better. I wonder what it was? Is there such a thing as "dog flu"? LaDean, Billy Ray would be good to exercise to...I have his first album.
I have been getting baby pictures via the internet. He is a cutie. I have been taking a lot of pictures with my digital camera and have been playing around and editing them on my computer. It has been really fun.

You will love Sante Fe, Ledom! Not far from there is Los Almos and you can go to the museums and the boy's school that Gore Vidal and other noteworthies were sent to. It is quite interestintg. If you go around Abiqui (sp?) you can see the hills Georgia O'keefe was influenced by. We couldn't go to her house though. Maybe you can now. I dunno? That will be a great trip.

I haven't been doing very well with WW. Because I missed a meeting I lost all motivation. At least all I'm out is the cost of a meeting. I just can't seem to get the inspiration to stick to anything. :( Maybe it's the winter blues.
Cheryl, that's fantastic news about going to Calif. You will have a wonderful time. The only 2 places I've ever been in Calif. are the airports. One in San Francisco and the other in LA.
ledom, I envy you your trip to Sante Fe. Your trip sounds like a lot of fun. It's nice going places with a good friend.
judi, glad you're having a good time in CA. I think that all her shots finally got to her because she's been fine ever since. How is the baby? I bet you can't wait to see him. I took DH's digital camera with me to NYC in Dec. I am not a very good photographer, but the photos I took came out great. I really love it. DH had to give me a couple of lessons on how to work it.

Good morning - sorry about your fall from WW Alice. I know how hard that motivation thing is. I had a major fall off the wagon on Mon., but managed to get back up on Tues. I did a lot of cooking so I'd have good things to eat. Running out of the right food is what set me off. I am still trying to get my birthday/thanksgiving/christmas weight off. I took a two month break and now it is taking at least two months to get back where I was. Please remind me not to ever do that again!!!!
Anyway, I have been really hungry the last 2 days but have just tried to clobber myself into not overeating. I have decided to get back to pre-break weight before I buy any new clothes. That has my attention because I love to shop for new clothes. I am really hoping by the end of the month I'll be there.
I am toying with the idea of switching diet and exercise around a little. I just spotted my old Prevention w/ the PMD diet in it and thought I'd re-read it. I am also thinking that for a while I might concentrate on cardio and yoga more than weight lifting. None of this is firm in my mind, but perhaps doing something different for a while would get my enthusiasum up a little.
You know, I think we are going to get through this year without any snow. In a way that makes me sad because I like a little snow. It never hangs around too long here so doesn't become a nuisance.

Good morning, How is everyone?
Well, I pulled out the PMD last night and it amazed me. For protein they suggest beans 5 times a week and fish 2 times, that is it. My diet is so radically different now. Protein at every meal either meat, eggs, or lowfat cottage cheese. I don't think I am ready to go back to PMD but someplace in between maybe? I am ready to shake things up. I have decided to stop lifting for a while for a couple reasons. One, I think I do want to cut back on protein some. I also want to concentrate more on yoga and up my levels of cardio so time is an issue.
I like lifting and I like the way it makes me look so I am not through with it. I am going to give this new idea about a month and then reevaluate.
I am still loving yoga and I have even signed up for a weekend meditation workshop. It is in early April.

In yesterday's mail I received a post card from WW saying that if I bring the card to a WW meeting I would not have to pay for missed meetings. I have kept the card and am thinking seriously of going back, but we'll see what Tues. brings. I do have until March 3rd to decide, as that's when the offer expires.
ledom, I had totally forgotten about PMD until you mentioned it. You will find the right "mix" for yourself. Glad that you're so enthused about yoga. I do have some yoga tapes plus a mat and some blocks, but haven't used either the tapes or the mat. I love to shop for clothes too. DH got me a gift certificate for Christmas at one of the stores I frequent. I want to lose some weight before I use it. I guess that's one incentive to go back to WW. ;)

Happy Valentines Day to you girls, Judi, Cheryl, Alice, LaDean. Hope it is a good day for you.
I have a whole delicious weekend ahead of me with no plans except to stay at home and that is a lovely feeling as I've been running around a lot lately.
On diet and exercise. I am feeling really good w/ my eating the last couple of days. One thing the PMD has that I had forgotten is 9 servings of veg./fruit a day. That is a lot, but I am going to try to get that going. I did manage 8 yesterday. I ate 8 times yesterday, but 2 meals were a piece of fruit only. I am paying attention to protein, but not haveing quite so much. I have been very pleased to have a reduction on the scale 2 days in a row now. On exercise I am planning to do 30 minutes on my treadmill and a little yoga every day.
The yoga diet and the strength training diet are radically different. The suggested yoga diet is vegetarian while the ST diet is all about meat. So, somewhere in between is what I am aiming for. It is hard to give up the idea of strength training completely and after a month I might feel I need it back. On the other hand, I think waiting until summer when I have a lot more time is when I'll take it up again.

I am in Palm Desert. We will be here until Sunday and then will drive up the coast back to Canada. It has been such a great holiday.
I have been talking to my D a lot. She is such a confident little mother. I temember feeling "I can't believe the hospital let me take this baby home!!" Nathan is gaining 1/2 lb a day.
I lost some weight...believe me I don't know how that happened??? I guess because I have had whatever I wanted I don't feel like eating all the time. I have to get a plan and do it. (I don't feel I have to eat everything in sight like it is my last chance to eat it in life!)
I bought a bunch of books, went looking at clothes in Macys but didn't buy anything. I see pink/black is going to be big this summer.
My Att card has been giving me grief so sometimes the internet works and other times not. When I get home I will be able to touch base more often and I hope to have decided on some kind of action to lose this weight. I am still doing WW online, I will probably keep it up...even if I am not dieting, it helps keep me conscious that "something should be done!".

It snowed here on Saturday, like 2-3 inches worth. Then it all melted on Sunday when the temps got up to the mid-50's. Just luv that Arkansas weather!!
I've been walking for the past week or so, but only a mile each afternoon. I've also been half-way working out with some weights. We'll see what happens.
I've discovered that if I eat a heavy meal after aroundd 6:00-7:30 I have an asthma attack. I've not been to the doctor yet, as I only have them at night, and dread the thought of going to the ER. I really do need to go and get an inhaler, though, because they've really been getting bad lately, chest pain accompanying the shortness of breath. I've literally felt like I've been dying the last two times it's happened. Ugh. Yet another reason I've got to get this weight OFF!!!

Hi everyone. Judi and Cheryl it is good to hear from you two. Cheryl, we got that snow too. I really enjoyed it, I would have been disappointed w/ no snow this winter. It was the first weekend in forever I didn't have anything planned and I had the best time just being at home. D stayed at school, I did some cleaning and some relaxing in front of the fireplace. I hardly ever build a fire because I'm not here that much and w/ the snow coming down it was just perfect. Do take care of your asthma (get your enhaler), that sounds very frightening to me! Your walking and weights sound good. Both are great ways to exercise.
Judi, I miss your regular posts, time for you to come home girlfriend. I am so glad you are having a great trip. Yes, pink and black, DD let me go shopping w/ her last week and that is exactly what she bought. A black w/ pink trim formal dress, she looks so nice in it. I am not sure it'll work on me though. Still waiting for pre-holiday lbs. to be gone before shopping again. I almost broke that rule this week, but restrained myself. It seems to be helping me be good!
LaDean, glad the scale is moving for you. They say it is consistency that does the trick and it sounds like by sticking with it you are getting results. They never come as fast as we would like though, hey? By the way, Happy Birthday week to you.

I went back to Weight Watchers this morning. Even though I hadn't been in a couple of weeks I was down 1.4 lbs.
Cheryl, I would go to the Dr. soon to get your inhaler. Keep up your walking and weight lifting.
ledom, I was wondering if you got any snow out of the snow storm Dallas had. I can honestly say we haven't had much snow this winter. It's been too darn cold to snow. You sound like you were nice and cozy during the storm. There is something to be said having a fire in the fireplace while it's snowing outside.
LaDean, congratulations on the scale going in the right direction. It's great when that happens after staying the same for a while.
judi, it's nice hearing from you and congratulations on losing some weight. I have read that if you do eat what you want when you want, you don't have cravings and can be satisfied with eating very little. Glad that your D has a lot of conficence with Nathan. I bet you can't wait to see him in person.

A good Saturday morning to you all,
Yesterday was another gorgeous day so again DH & I took Lacee for a walk. She had a lot of excitement while out on her walk. She got to bark at a UPS truck, plus we had some snowmobilers in a field next to the road we were walking on, and of course she had to see what they were up to. :lol:
LaDean, glad that you had a wonderful birthday. You've got to eat what you want on your birthday..it's a must! :s: PMD is Prevention Millenium (sp?) Diet put out by Prevention in 2000. It's a very sound eating plan. If you go to their website they may still have it. But, everything now is the South Beach Diet on their site. www.prevention.com

Aleka, thanks for the site. glad lacee is having fun on her walks. shes so cute. tuffy still has his walks down road and up little ways and across the lot and then out several times. i like for him to use his back hind parts as much as possible. the little leg he drags. so makes it stronger i feel. can just walk in our area no leash. so hes doing ok. has days worse then others. Glad your weather is better and you all can be out. i am still walking. yesterday was beautiful here and warm out. today looks like one of same. cold and frosty evenings. but love it. have a good day

I wanted to pop in to tell you that a friend and I were in a mall yesterday and I walked down to the pet store and there was a little male Boston Terrier puppy. He was soooo cute. I was talking to this lady who was also falling in love with him. She told me that the pet store was asking $1,000.00 for him. :yikes: :faint:

Boy, I have really been struggling this week. Just some really bad days after a great previous week. Last Friday I had a free day which I felt I was in control of, but it set off some really bad cravings, sweets mainly. Last night I just absolutely made myself sick, there was nothing in the house junky enough to suit me and I just scrounged until I found the only sweet thing - almond paste - I don't recommend it. I just kept thinking, get me through this and I'll never do it again. I am so tired of this on again off again behaviour, I just have to get some control over this thing. Anyway, back at it today. My plans for yoga instead of weights has fallen by the wayside. I just truly believe in my heart that I can't do what I want to do w/out strength training. So back at it this morning. I am trying to be less rigid w/ exactly how I lift, trying to just take it one day at a time as I think what made me give it up in the first place was boredom. So, I lifted 35 minutes, just working on shoulders and then I did 10 minutes on my treadmill, but just really pushing myself harder than usual. My yoga class is tonight so that will be another 1 1/2 hrs., one day at a time.
I am not giving up.
Hi LaDean, Cheryl, and Judi - hope you are all having fun and doing well. Cheryl, just when we thought it was Spring....but wait, it's Spring again. Crazy weather here in the Land of Opportunity.

Aleka, oh i bet he was so precious but that price. they are worth it for sure. but who can give that. i guess if you want it bad enough and have that kind of money. got tuffy free. a gal had to get rid of him. so we were so very lucky there. she just wanted to give him to a good home. i promised her she had. I am so happy for your loss that is great. keep it up. mine are down a hafe this morning so walking on pins today as weigh in the morning. ha but got some good tomatoes on sale at store yesterday and lettuce and all. so its salads today. i have had a good eating week and ex. also. but have not done very much. taking just the walking now. feet so much better today. but it comes and goes. so just grit teeth and live with it. could always be worse so many are worse off. i am thankful everyday..
Ledom. we all have days we get off. but best thing is we are right back on plans which you are. your doing great.

Ye God - I think I hit bottom w/ that last post. Like an alcholic drinking cough syrup. But anyway, yesterday was great. Got up both yesterday and today and did a good workout. I did some cooking yesterday, eating well makes all the difference in avoiding those kinds of episodes. Yoga was great last night, out teacher told us we were doing really good. Next week is our last of 8 sessions. I have signed up for another go around. I only wish I could do yoga w/ her every day or at least a couple times a week.

ledom, glad that you're feeling better about things and got back on track. LaDean is right, we all have those days. It's nice to be able to come to this board and vent and get encouragement. It's good you started lifting weights and signed up for another yoga class. Do you think there was one particular food you ate that set you off?
LaDean, congratulations on your weight loss. :cp: That's fantastic. Are you still doing the Prism Plan? If so, how do you like it? That little puppy was so adorable, but way..way too much money. I hate seeing dogs and cats in pet stores in cages, so I hope somebody buys him. Glad Tuffy is doing well.

Tomorrow my D, her BF and the baby are coming to stay for a couple of days. I am so excited.
I am at home now. After sleeping in the RV it seems funny to sleeping in a room with high ceilings. Our trip was a month and a half, one of our longest. It was fun. On the way back we went to San Francisco and stayed in an RV park overlooking the ocean.
No news on the diet front, same old same old...

Alice and LaDean, thanks for your encouraging words, they mean so much. Yeah, Alice, it was an apple fritter! There is a bakery in my town that makes the absolute best ones. I have decided to have one a month instead of one a week which I had been doing so this was the second one of the year. I think I might have been ok w/ it, but I also had let myself get out of healthy food and one thing led to another all that day. I was also insanely busy last week and just never got the right food in the house. Oh well, that is in the past now. I am moving on to better things. I lost 4 days to bad eating.
I am on the straight and narrow again and have done some cooking plus some shopping and more cooking over the weekend.
Today my baby is 20, lots of birthday activities planned for today.

I am having a good week after having such a rough time last week. New workout schedule is going well. I am planning a kayak/camping trip this coming weekend that I am all excited about.
Brody story, he loves to chew on socks. He steals them wherever he can find them and then leaves them strewn around the kitchen, often in the food bowl. A couple weeks ago we had a sock lock down just because it was a nusiance to always have these stray socks laying around. Well, he started chewing the couch! Needless to say he has his socks back and that corner of the couch is under a blanket. He is like a puppy, when he chews he really goes after it making a squeaking noise against his teeth. The first cat I ever had that chewed funiture, they usually just claw it!

Hey gals, sorry it's been such a long time since my last post. I've really been neglecting the web lately. I went to the George Strait concert in Memphis last week and it was GREAT. At some point over the week-end, though, i seem to have picked up a bug. Yuck.
I've not yet been to the doctor about my asthma attacks, but I haven't had a really bad one since the last one I wrote about. I do need to go to the doctor--I just hate to.
The weight-loss situation with me has once again turned into a no-go. Surprise, surprise. That's another reason I've not been coming around as often. I feel like I'm just rehashing all the same old problems over and over and over again.
On a good note--I picked out wedding bands on Saturday. Stewart didn't go with me for this trip, but he will before the final purchase (of course, he has to know what I want so he can pay for it :) )

Been mia for a while. I really have had nothing to report. Everything is the same old same old on the diet front. I'm still counting points and it's working very well.
We'll be going to FL for a few weeks next month. While we're down there we'll be looking for a house or condo to relocate. We didn't have much work in our machine shop last year, and haven't had anything at all this year, and we're into March. We've decided it's time to close the shop and start over again. So, we want to be in a warmer climate, as this winter was very hard on both of us.
Cheryl, congratulations to you both on your engagement. Have you set the date yet? I am so very happy for you.

LaDean, how did your weigh in go?
judi, how was the visit with your grandson? It must have been a wonderful moment for you laying eyes on him for the first time. Did Bentley come too?

Hello to everyone. I'm new here and thought I'd say, "Hi!"
I'm supposed to be going on a cruise in about 44 days.
I've been on the Atkins since mid-January and no results. I've lost about 12 inches but no weight other than 4 lbs that keeps finding its way back. I was on Atkins last year and lost 24lbs and then gained about 18 back.
I've been trying to exercise more. ... Walking 22 flights of stairs once or twice per week and using a weight machine a couple times per week.
I've just decided that I'm going to try to eat healthier - more fruites and veggies and see how that works for me. I've also been drinking lots of water lately. That doesn't seem to help - other than send me to the RR every 15 minutes. :-)

Hope you all had a nice weekend. Our weather did improve a bit and quite a bit of snow has melted. Today we're supposed to have more normal temps and they say we may see some snow flurries later on. NYC is supposed to get the brunt of the storm along the east coast.
1FatLoser, WELCOME!!!! That's fantastic losing 12-inches. That's just as important as losing weight. With all the working out you do, you probably are gaining muscle and that's why you don't see much of a weight loss on the scale. Keep up the good work. Where are you going on your cruise? I have never been on one, but would like to go on a cruise to Alaska someday.

Welcome 1fatloser (hey, you need to give us another name to call you), and hi to LaDean and Cheryl. I don't get notices when people post on the thread any more and have really been slipping on keeping an eye on this thread. Judi and Alice, how are you guys?
I had a good week as far as scale weight is concerned. I started using FitDay again and it has helped me keep my calories within a decent range. I am going to try to keep up with it for a while. My weight is almost down to where it was before Christmas. This is frustrating for sure, but I'll never give up. Next week is spring break and I am looking forward to that.

Hi Gals! Itsa the gramma! Whew! They are cute...but exhausting! Guess, that is why we have the at the early part of our lives. Gramps and I were were baby sitting yesterday and had to hold him (which is good) but it was for about 8 hours straight. He would wake up as soon as you put him in the crib.
Ledom that was a funny story about Brody...I guess it is natures way of saying your furniture and socks are too nice.

I have been not dieting...staying the same on the scale. I have not been snacking...it seems when left without being "diet" aware I would just eat 3 meals. I want to get going again but just haven't had the real desire.
Had a bad month...a friend committed suicide and my favourite priest in the entire world has left for a sabbatical for a year...being kind of burnt out and disappointed in the ministry. He says he may not come back. My friend that died suffered from bi-polarism and he was my very best friend in the 80's and the first part of the 90's. He was looking forward to us getting together when I came back from my Ca. trip and so was I ... we were going to talk about so many things. I am fighting a fight not to give way to despair. The coming of the wonderful baby is so perfect because it is a very "UP" thing in my life and my daughter is such a wonderful mother. I am so proud of her.
DH might be going to Ca. at the end of the week but I am staying home. I am going to take a short gardening course. I took a evening course with my WW friend on "Tabletops" ... a how to on making a beautiful table setting for a company dinner. It was very Martha-ish and I enjoyed it a lot. It gave some ideas.
We went to see The Passion which was so good. I am going to go again myself when the DH is away on his trip.

I am glad your staying the same and have not gained. i have been doing good. not losing at a standstill. but will hang in there and will see results. have had a cold and its lingering so not exercising. the cough and i get hot and it starts. so just wearing it out. will be so good to get with it. i sure miss my exercise. been drinking more water. been eating ham and a no no. i retain water some. so letting down on it. well hey glad all is going good for you

judi, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. How tragic that he took his own life. Glad that you're finding consolation in your grandson. How are the fur babies around the new baby? Are their noses out of joint? My girlfriend saw the Passion with her DIL and really loved it. She had planned on going again with either a co-worker or someone from her church, I forget which, and I don't know if she went because she left last week on a month long trip. I just cannot watch all that violence. Because of you awful month, it's understandable why you haven't thought of dieting and exercising. When it's time, you'll get back on track. It was nice to see your post.

Hi girls, I was so anxious to hear from you judi. One of my friends is a new (well the grandbaby is 2 so maybe not so new), but she is just in heaven when she is with that little munchkin! How gratifying it must be for you to see your DD being such a great mom. So sorry about your friend, sad, sad.

I am doing pretty good w/ keeping my diet on my mind these days. I have a little goal set for myself to reach by the end of the school year. I also am not forgetting that big goal that you and I have judi. I think this might be the year for me.

Hey girls, Good news on the home front this morning. DD got cast in "Picnic", she is so excited. Did my heart good as she called me FIRST with the news. We have been making good progress on the "mom letting go" project, but I was so thrilled to hear her news. She is absolutely passionate about acting and it becomes more and more apparent to me all the time. Well, just wanted to share.

Alice the Boston loves the baby but my D. says they are to exhausted to play with him the way they used to...poor little guy!

I have been trying to organize all my mom's photos from her life (she passed on a couple of years ago). I have a huge darkroom/studio and since I haven't been printing in trays for a couple of years I turned it into a project room.

Hey all, a long and exhausting day. I taught my night class. But yippee, next week is spring break! Yeah, I am really happy for DD, it's a small part Alice, I think the character is Christine, a friend of the teacher. Have you seen it? I saw the TV production last year but am having a hard time remembering the details. Anyway, in our circle we have learned to say there are no small parts only small actors. She's happy to act and that makes me happy. She's worried about losing her scholarship though. Her sophomore year has been one heck'uva year, she has not been studying! Worried that I'll still love her she says. Yes, but.......thinking I am going to search out someone to tell me how to handle this new development in her development!

I think I have just resolved in my heart that D had that good scholarship for 2 years and that was good. She's having growing pains and is not focused on working, she will have to live with her actions and sometimes that is the only way to learn. It is hard to watch, on the other hand I am not going to twist myself into knots over it. Sorry I aired my problems again. I do find I can rely on you guys for a kind word though so it was hard not to do. This time last year she had straight A's and was deeply depressed so I prefer happy and not straight A's to that.
On those diet books, well, dieting sure is a lot of hard work isn't it? I'm just cynical enough about diets not to have a huge collection. My shelves are cluttered w/ exercise books and magazines though!

Yes, my D has a boston terrier that is just the sweetest guy. I hope you are feeling better LaDean. Is asthma something you have had for awhile or is it something that has just come about? Do you use an inhaler? I hope it will be ok.
Let her be happy Ledom, I agree with you. Straight A's are nice but not an ingredient that is necessary for a happy life. I am so thankful to God that my daughter has had such an emotional turn around from a couple of years ago. It is a real miracle.
What kind of weather are you having out there Alice? People in the east are getting snow...YUCK! On April 7-8, I am having someone come and get my garden ready for spring. I so want to get on with spring and summer. THis winter was a rough one even for us out here.
Marley was fascinated by the baby...what is it? and kitty was oblivious.
I might start "Thin Within" today. I too wish we could lose weight by reading the diet books...heck, not even reading...just buying them should be good enough. :p

It is beautiful here. The fruit trees are blooming, the dogwood buds are swelling. It feel very like spring and we are predicted to have a beautiful weekend. One of my friends has a birthday this coming week so I will be cleaning my house most of the weekend in preparation for a get together to celebrate her birthday. It'll be a good way to start spring break. D and I will probably make a short get away trip and I hope to do some kayaking.

ledom, your D is still very young, and someday she may want to start studying again, but right now she is doing something that she's good at and that she loves to do. That's all that really matters anyway. It's good that you've decided not to let it all twist you up inside. I envy you thinking about kayaking already. I could put runners on my canoe, hoist a sail, and let the wind whip me across the ice. :lol:

judi, our weather had been nice for a couple of weeks in the 40's to almost 50. Quite a bit of snow had melted, but then we got some snow the other day in that east coast storm. We only got about 3", as the storm stayed well south of us. Another storm is supposed to hit tomorrow and that is supposed to stay even farther south, so we may not see anything more than flurries. Then we're supposed to get cold again. How nice that you're thinking about your yard and spring cleanup. We've got about another month or so before we can even consider it. :(

Ah Alice, I know you must be sick of winter. Well, when I am sweltering down here in a couple more months, you'll be a lot more comfortable I bet.
My poor mother has a bad cold, she is 80 and just not doing as well as I wish. I have been going over there every few hours last night and today. Luckily we are only 2 miles apart. I can tell that this is going to be a big part of my life for the next few years. I have got to get my own self more organized in order to take this on in the way I want to.
Yes, you're right about DD. She almost seems more motivated now that she told me and I didn't yell at her. Like now that she doesn't have to worry about that; it is her problem that she can own. I hope I am not reading too much into the signs I think I am picking up on. It'll all work out. She is coming home for spring break this evening and I am looking forward to us having a good time together.
The least little thing can really throw me, my mom has me stressed a bit and of course the first thing I want to turn to is food. But, I'm not going to. I know it is really important for me to get the right food in my house, prepared and easy to grab cause it will help out with this so much if I do.

Hey a good weekend wish to all of you. I was up 2 lbs at tops this morning. the no exercise for all these weeks has not helped me. i miss it and love my exercise. to me it goes in with my plan a big part of it. so i hope this next week i can get out and do it. my cold is some better its allergies alot to i think. comes and goes so that makes me believe its more the allergies. I am ready for a end to it.. Happy Sunday morning ladies. Dinner party last night was fun, enjoyed being with good friends. BUT, now that my house is semi-clean and all the preparations are behind me it feels like official spring break. Yippeeee! I have some diet muffins in the oven, some brown rice simmering, and plan on logging calories the rest of the week in fitday. I also am looking forward to some long and unrushed workouts. Ready to get down to business here.
We had a high of 80 yesterday and a high of 50 expected today. Gotta love this Arkansas weather. I had the windows open yesterday and just left them open so that it is brisk in the house but it is getting a nice airing out. Good after a winter of closed windows and excessive cats! Brody has been making a new friend. Actually he is the only kitty that never gets to go outside. There is a stray that is hanging around our yard and the stray sits on the outside of the window screen and Brody on the inside. They just sit and stare at each other, don't growl or anything. It is sweet.
DD is home and sleeping all day and staying up all night. So what do you do? I personally am keeping my mouth shut and going about my business. Actually, I think she is working on homework and memorizing lines for the play. So far so good, when we do sit down and visit it is nice. Sigh!
So, off to get my sneaks and workout clothes on. Ya'll have a nice Sun. afternoon.

Hi LaDean, I am glad you are feeling better. I hear you on the subject of finding the thing you can do for life. It has to be that or it is pointless IMO. My problem lately has been either I can get the exercise in for a week, or I can watch my diet for a week, I have been having trouble making the 2 coincide. I am VERY slowly lowering my weight but know that I could do better. I am planning to spend some time w/ my journal and my private quiet thoughts on this subject this week. I want to find that place that I can lose 4 or 5 lbs. a month, be satisfied with my food and exercise level. What it boils down to for me is consistency. I have all these tools and good habits, but I don't do them every day. That is what it is going to take for me to see the difference I want to see. I am working to get to that place.

ledom, OMG, I can't believe you had 80 deg. weather! I can only imagaine how that felt. We're leaving for FL in 2 weeks, we are counting down, and hopefully I'll experience some of that weather. Glad that you dinner party went well and that you had a wonderful time. What are your diet muffins? They sound interesting. I'm finding myself slacking off in the dieting and exercising dept. myself. Good morning Alice. Well, I am glad Florida is in your future. I know if I was having the weather you NE girls are having I'd be really sick of it. As I look out the window here, everything is tinged w/ green.
12 egg whites
1 1/4 c. uncooked quick cooking oats
9 T Low sugar red raspberry jam
Dash of vanilla extract
1 1/2 T cocoa powder 4 T Nestle no sugar added chocolate milk mix powder
Splenda to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Blend ingredients in a blender and pour into muffin tins that have been sprayed with Pam.
Bake for 20 minutes.
Actually I make these in 4 mini loaf pans and cook for 30 minutes. The recipe makes 4 servings. I split them in two, toast and spread w/ lowfat cream cheese sometimes. Here is another of my favorite recipes.
1 lb ground turkey breast (make sure this turkey BREAST and low fat)
1 c chopped onions
4 egg whites
1 c chunky salsa (I like the Rotel Spicy Italian tomatoes)
1/2 c uncooked oatmeal
1 package knorr's Vegetable Soup mix
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 c. ketchup
Mix all ingredients except ketchup until well blended. Place in a meatloaf pan. Cover with ketchup. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Makes 5, 4 oz servings
* Serves: 5
I will make a paddling anaolgy for how I feel about dieting. It is when you are trying to paddle against the current and you barely make any progress, sometimes you even appear to be going backwards, but you are trying as hard as you can w/ slight incremental steps forward, sometimes.

ledom, thank you for the recipes and analogy about dieting. That is exactly how I feel. The muffins and turkey meatloaf sound YUMMY!! The muffins will be just the ticket to take on our trip for snacks and/or dessert. I have found Polaner all fruit jams made w/Splenda at Super Walmart. The jars are larger than what you get in the grocery store. They only have 2 flavors, that I could find, raspberry and blackberry. I don't know if they make anymore flavors made w/Splenda. Maybe if it goes over well they'll make more.

WP40, as you are counting calories do you also pay attention to ratios of protein to carb to fat? I am doing a little experimenting with that. I tried a low carb day this week and ended up falling off the wagon big time right before bed time. I won't be trying that again. I have been quizzing an e-mail buddy who has remained faithful to BFL for a year now w/ spectacular results. It makes me want to kick myself for not having more faith in the wisdom of this WOE. I am back on it as of today.
Spring break has been glorious so far. I have a camping trip planned for Fri. night along with paddeling. Yesterday I hung out with a work friend. We had so much drinking coffee at the bookstore, going to the green house, having lunch. What a luxury just to visit and gossip the biggest part of the day. Very relaxing. D and I are having fun together too.

I do not have a exact amout of carbs ..but I try to keep them down to 3 portions a day.
I like the Diabetic's food counts ...6 to 8 oz of meat or protein,3 starches ,4 veg, 3 fruit,4 fats, 2 dairy.
Although I dont always follow it exactly ...it is in my head . :dizzy:

Good morning, BFL recommends 6 meals a day, a palm size of protein and a fist size of carb at each meal w/ some added "healthy fats", a p40/c40/f20 percentage. I stuck with that yesterday but somehow managed 7 meals instead of 6, one meal was really unsatisfying. Still, at the end of the day I felt great. I worked my arms, biceps and triceps yesterday. Today I plan to do some cardio and my yoga class is tongiht. Also will keep meal down to 6 or maybe even 5 with one meal a salad and no carbs.

Hey all, I am feeling lots better. got exercise bike rode 2 miles yesterday. was rainy out so taking no chances yet. still got this in my body so making sure with easter and all coming. i always fix dinner . ledom, I just got my weekly edition of Woman's World magazine. They always have the "Diet of the Week". Bill Phillips' Eating for Life is in this week's edition. I am thinking about getting the book. Supposedly you can lose weight by doing the diet without lifting weights and such. Not as much, but you still lose. I have a question or two to ask you. How long do you, personally, wait between meals and do you find this eating program convenient to do? I would appreciate any input you can give me. Thanks.

Hi Alice, the Eating for Life book is a companion recipe book that goes along w/ Body for Life. I have it and I think it is great. Actually, I believe he explains the diet in EFL. I like this WOE a lot. You will not get hungry on this diet which I think makes it a good lifestyle choice. Good luck if you decide to try it out.

Aleka, Yehhhhh i am so happy just loss a 1/4 of a lb but that is a loss. i am taking them all now. and through wishing for big losses. just a loss every week again is what i am working towards. yes counting calories and eating what i want. watching my starches and sugar and fats though. so hopefully. Are you not on ww anymore. i get bored with it alot. but sometimes i change off from calories and count pts. it keeps variety with it. Yes been riding ex bike as its dry inside. so i will be all over this for sure next week and starting to walk daily. my parnter is going to be back. she keeps me doing it daily as she goes out everyday. is nice to chat and all. Oh your trip sounds so nice. I am ready for one. ha Have one in May looking so forward to that. I read somewhere that if a person likes a variety of food, then counting calories is for them. That's great Tuffy has lost weight too and is doing so well. It should help his hind legs. The last time Lacee went to the Vet, she was 16 lb. Lacee says WOOF too. Have fun walking with your partner. It's nice having someone to walk and chat with to make the time go faster, plus you give each other the incentive to exercise every day.

Aleka, thanks so much for the nice words and encouragement. i love coming to the boards it helps me so very much. glad lacee is doing good to.. yes it does help him standing on his hind legs. especially the lefted one was effected by stroke. so he drags it alot. but still got him. love it. Hey guess what got on the scales this morning and down another 1.75 lbs oh wish that could have been at tops yesterday. but i just was so good. so it paying off. i finally am glad there going down. Now are you still with the ww.? I had to move around so much to find a plan. so finally my hubby said got to burn off those calories eaten that is what it boils down to. so i said you know that is right. so went for it. at least i for me can live with it as can have what i want. so you 2 have a great weekend. the sun is out today so i may just get out for a nice walk. yes this friend keeps me going every morning they come by here so i feel guilty if i do not go.ha ha

LaDean, You ended up have a great weight loss week! Way to go! Got the Sun. afternoon blues here as I prepare to go back to work tomorrow after a really lazy spring break week. My camping trip was fun though I was foolish and didn't wear my sunscreen. I have very sunburned legs, I did put sunscreen on my face so that was protected.
I am feeling pumped about the new BFL committment. I bought some myoplex lite shakes to have a couple of the 6 meals and I have been fooling around with getting them mixed up a way that I like. I didn't use those on my previous challenge.

Monday morning girls! I'm up early to take care of some things I should have already to get ready for the day. Food was good yesterday, more of the same today. I don't have time for my workout this a.m., but WILL work out tonight. New goal, to be more organized, less prone to procrastination w/ school and home chores, so I don't forgo morning workouts because I have to play catch up in the mornings!

Way, I hope your wt goes back down it will. i do that some mornings have water gain. i weigh daily so i have to look at it as that. lol i feel good this morning and getting ready for a walk. has been 6 weeks since i have walked so i am looking forward to it. i am starting it twice a day. i feel better when i walk. going to take my measurements today also and get back to keeping them regular. this helps me a lot. i have been at a stand still with my wt and glad i hung in there and never threw in the towel. it helped to as scales are going down some now. slow but that is the way i am looking at it this time. small losses and they add up. I am drinking more water and setting calories and sticking to them. watching portions and starches and sugars and fats. so hope you have a good day.
To every one i hope this Monday is a good day for you to hang in there and stick to your eating plan. we can jsut take it one day at a time. that is the way i am doing it now. i also do my bible study and it helps. You are right about the portions of starches...I did have spagetti this week 1 1/2 cups and about a 1/4 cup of bravo sauce plain.I will just have to cut it to 1 cup .
My lunches are usually Lean Cuisine because it is easy..but I am going to try some more veggies with them. My biggest problem is that I really don't care for salad unless I go out to dinner ...and that would be about 2 times a year. :lol: I only like ceasar salad and I am not fond of the bottled dressings.

Hey there, first 20 minutes of my day were spent on cardio - yay for me. I have a treadmill and I just got it out of the way. How did your walking go yesterday LaDean? Do you guys have problems with pollen there in the spring time - we have hit pollen season with a vengenance here. Today is my long day at work so I am planning what I need to take to eat at work. WP - I find that eating vegetables are something I have to work on too. I like salads if I don't have to do the work of cleaning the leaves, there is a mixed spring salad that comes in a celophane box that doesn't get that bagged taste that I buy. In an effort to cut down on bad dressing I have learned to like a mixture of spicy mustard, red wine vinegar and olive or udos oil, salt and pepper. I usually have tuna on my salads. And then steamed broccoli or asparagus are my other stand bys.

Well I love veggies like broccoli ,cauliflour,turnips and asparagus...but the whole family does not ..I am now making a pot of turnips and carrots to mash and put in baggies ...for MYSELF.I tend to think of lettace as a filler..but if you steam it like cabbage and put a little salt and butter on it,it tends to make you sleepy!!!
:p It is like vegatable marrow...I am the only one I know who likes it.

Hi Way I love all those vegies to. that is a great idea to fix them up like that. I have never tryed lettuce like that. sounds good. will have to give it a try.. they say to try new things. I need to more. Now do you eat lots of fruits. i try to but if i eat to may i tend to gain wt. have a good day. sounds like your plan is going good for you. i am glad.

ledom, thanks for the info about EFL thread. I'm glad that Suzanne has started it. I do believe I have to start an eating plan where I eat small meals throughout the day. I have discovered I get ravenous between breakfast and lunch, so much so that I feel queasy and shakey. I plan on getting the book either before we leave for FL next week or while we're there.

I like to eat one banana at night...I count my teaspoon of caramel sauce as a fruit(I know it isn't but it is a sugar)And I count my fruit in my yogurt,sometimes I have two small fruited ,fat free yogurts a day. ;)

On rainy days like it is here all this week,I have to push the carriage with one hand with my 3 1/2 year old grandson, and carry the umbrella in the other.I have to go to and from the school to get my grandaughter. Total walking.....1 1/2 hours.

Wow Way, that is incredible. I can't imagine doing that but that is exactly what our bodies were designed to do rather than riding everywhere in cars. That routine should surely help you lean down and be good for your granddaughter as well.

way good for you. that takes courage now to walk in that. but here we have rain so often i have to walk in it. daughter got me a rain coat and water just falls off it has good hood. so off i go. no more umbrella is so neat. but lately it has been nice days. today i missed my walk, over slept. i may take one later today... Hey there, I am happy to report that over the last 2 weeks I have lost 3 lbs. I am making Friday my official weigh-in day. What's different? I am more focused w/ my food and have gone from about 85% to 100% in sticking w/ my food plan. I'd say from about 75% to 98% w/ my exercise plan. Maybe that is a weird way to put it but it feels about right in terms of my own perception of how things are going. I need to work on improving water drinking every day. Some days I am on top of it and other days I am not.
This weekend will be a new experience for me. I am going to be doing a meditation workshop. I might I have mentioned it earlier - it is through the ashram where I take my yoga classes. It is 2 hours tonight, 8 hours tomorrow, and 4 hours Sunday. Our teacher is coming over from India. Anyway, should be interesting. I don't how we break for food or anything. I will be smuggling in energy bars I guess.

Ledom. Congratulations on that loss. that is great. your with it girl. so keep it up. sounds good. if its working then that is great. I had a 1/4 lb loss this week. 2 weeks i have loss so that is good for me. at a standstill to long. but was worth just hanging in there. back to walking 3 miles every morning now to. a early one so has been crispy and cool but i love the fresh air. helps me alot. Had tops today so happy with a loss. hey i weigh fridays also. i love it. i started today being good.
Hey aleka, hows things going. are you not with ww anymore. i am counting points now i go from that to calories back and forth. same thing gets old for me. so eating what i want but watching the portions and drinking more and being faithful with the water. tuffy says woof lacee. hes doing lots better and more energy and fisty and playful some. so we love that. weather is so nice now to and he loves that as well as me. be glad when another month we can do the garden getting it ready and all. to wet still now. love those fresh vegies..

It's getting down close to the wire before we leave on vacation! We took Lacee to the Vet yesterday for her health certificate, which is just a precaution, to bring along with us. She barked and growled at a larger dog in the waiting room, which got everyone laughing. Then she had to suffer the indignity of having her temp. taken. I then told her that's what happens to dogs who are snippy in the waiting room. Then the Vet came through the back door, and she barked at him. We told her that he definitely wasn't the person to be barking at. We can already tell this going to be a fun trip! :lol: The little :devil:
judi, it's so nice to see your post and I'm so glad you're having such a wonderful time with your grandson. I've missed you. Please don't stop posting just because you've gained weight back. We love hearing about your day to day life and now we'll love hearing about your grandson.
ledom, I've checked out the EFL thread quite a few times hoping to get some ideas. I do have one question. Some of you on that thread were talking about some meal replacement bars, I don't remember what they're called. Do you have to have them or are they just for convenience sake? I saw the EFL book at Walmart the other day, but didn't buy it. I thumbed through it and the recipes looked awfully good. I still plan on buying it while we're in FL.
LaDean, congratulations on your weight loss. Counting calories/points really works for you. Keep it up. No, I'm not going to WW anymore. I went to a few meetings and they did absolutely nothing for me, and kept wondering why I was there wasting my money. Until I find something that appeals to me, I'm just watching portion sizes, eating when I'm hungry, and stopping when I'm full. Also, I'm not denying myself anything, and it's amazing that I'm satisfied with less.

Alice, No the meal replacement bars are not necessary. I had not planned to use them at all but I find that at work sometimes I just don't have a way to get food at the right time and I think the bars might help with that. I think there are a variety of bars that you can use actually, something w/ around 200 calories and good ratios of protein. I recently found out about an online company that you can buy EAS products called myoplex lite, both shakes and bars, for cheap. It is called vitaglo.com - I am using both the shakes and bars this go around. They are much cheaper from vitaglo, for example I went to a nutrition store in Little Rock and paid $1.89 for shake, they are a $1 from this company.
Once again judi, I don't think we are going to let you go. I have absolutely gained weight back before and not wanted to post, but it isn't all about weight. Not for me anyway. It is all a cycle, you'll want to cut back at some point I bet but until then we want your company regardless.
Alice, when are you leaving on your trip? You have a great time and I know you will. Jump in on the EFL thread anytime you want. I am not an expert by any means but someone will be able to answer your questions if I can't.

My DH has to take a total break from work the doc says so we won't be travelling as much. That's ok with me...though I will miss my US grocery shopping.
The kids and the baby were here twice last week so it was fun. The baby is just beginning to smile. It is so cute...he lies in wait and then springs a smile on you. He is just such a precious little thing.
Haven't been on the scale for awhile but I am in my big BIG clothes :o I refuse to mourn though..if I have to I will go out and buy new 3X's.
The baby is being christened on the 18th, the other parents are having a christening tea, my job is to make the cakes. I have a hazelnut cake recipe that is all ground nuts with only 2 T of flour in each cake. It is very good so I think I will make two maybe three and then buy a cake from a good bakery, that makes a cake called the "Diplomat" and it has puff pastry in the middle. So I am already stewing about the success or failure of my cakes :?:
How is Laci Alice? Bentley has the allergies...he has to eat a dog food that is made with potatoes and NOTHING else. He is such a mooch and loves eating so much, we all feel sorry for him. Are Boston's prone to allergies? We think he might be inbred hence the problems, there are very few Boston's out here on the west coast of Canada. Have fun on your trip!! I have never been to Florida.

I stopped taking estrogen and am not so sleepy anymore :coffee: Has anyone ever heard if estrogen can make you sleepy...I was sleepy all the time and now I have so much more energy and it sure isn't because I am exercising or eating properly. I was wondering if anyone ever heard of a connection between tiredness and estrogen????

I am sorry your husband has to slow down, on the other hand he should be home w/ you enjoying your grandbaby. Maybe you can still get down to buy some groceries.
The workshop was fine. It was a bit tiring and has left me behind for the week, but I think some of the things I learned will be helpful. I do have to get some of the things I learned adjusted philosophically in my head - take the parts I can embrace and let the things I can't go. I think that is possible.
I am still doing yoga and I hope to do more actually. I really like it. It's the time thing but with summer coming up perhaps I will have more time for it. I would like to add another class so I am practicing twice a week.
I am still doing the weights, I have been all along though not as faithfully as I should. I started a new challenge 3 weeks ago and I have been consistent with them since then. They are top priority for now.
I don't know about estrogen but I'd think that more energy is a good thing.

Gee, I hadn't gotten any notices that you all had been posting. HMMM.
LaDean, you really have a wonderful attitude about losing weight. That's fantastic. It is better not to obsess too much about it. Glad that Tuffy is doing well. Lacee hates to have her nails clipped. We have some medicine to put in her ears because he found a lot of gunk in them. We have to to that for the next couple of weeks. She got her Frontline put on this morning so she's ready to head south. We will start her heartworm when we get back.
judi, having your DH around the house more often will be nice for you. You'll be able to do a lot more things together, especially now with your new grandson. Maybe even make some recreational trips to the US to buy groceries. I am on estrogen, the lowest dose possible, I believe it's .3 mg. I don't think I've ever heard it making anyone sleepy, but as with any medications it possibly can affect people in different ways. I have noticed lately that I get sleepy in the afternoons, but I figured it was because I occasioanally don't sleep very well during the night and/or because I'm reading a lot. It never occurred to me that it could possibly be the estrogen. That's interesting. Did you experience any hot flashes after you came off of it? I'm seriously thinking of stopping it the next time I see my Dr. That's fantastic you have more energy. I've also been wondering if estrogen is why I lose weight sooooo s-l-o-w-l-y. Have a wonderful time at the christening. I'm sure your cakes will be delicious. Oh, poor Bentley. I hope he's not suffering too badly. About 25 yrs. ago we had a Boston that was allergic to fleas. What a thing to be allergic to.
ledom, glad that everything is going well with BFL/EFL for you. I am still planning on getting the EFL book while I'm away, even if it's just for the recipes. They look and sound delicious.
We're leaving tomorrow around noontime. We have the water guy coming late morning and after he leaves, we leave. We'll only make CT, but we won't have as long a day on Thurs. as we would have if we were starting out from NH.

Alice, No I haven't had any hot flashes...I didn't even know I had passed thru menopause because I was taking Alesse daily and not stopping so I never got a period. My Dr. says lots of women have an uneventful menopause, I guess I was waiting for it to start and now found out I am already finished with it. I am not complaining.

Good morning, It is so spring time here. Yesterday it was close to 80 I believe. It is very eastery looking with the azaleas and dogwoods in bloom and all the fresh spring green colors. For the last two days I have been hosting a guest speaker from Massachusets and she just could not get enough of sitting in the sun. It is a beautiful time of year to be here.
Down 3 lbs. this week girls!!! Despite all my comings and goings I made it a priority to stick to my diet and do my exercise and it paid off when I did my weigh-in today.
Oh, but I have so much housework, yardwork, etc. to do.

LaDean you are doing great. Keep up the good work. Did you have a good Easter? Mine was pretty quiet, took my mother out to lunch and went on a hike with a friend. The hike was good because so many wildflowers are in bloom now. I had a planned free meal and other than that was on program. A little lax with the clean food though. Keeping busy sure make a difference for me in staying strict with myself. Today I am working my arms, I need to hop to it too. It turned cool and rainy over the weekend. I don't really mind, it has washed some of the pollen out of the air and we need the rain. It's supposed to be warm again in a couple of days.

I hope you all had a nice Easter. We went to mass then out to brunch on the island. In the afternoon I gardened for about a 1 1/2. Wheww! There is lots of work. I had the garden designer for 2 days. She said for the month of April I should be tied to the fence (for weeding), don't plant anything new, just mulch until fall and then re-think the plants in my garden. I have a shady garden and I have too many weekly anemic sun loving plants. At least I have a garden direction now. Though I couldn't resist the planting something new and made a space in my yard and planted a mixture of shade loving garden plants from seed. The weather here has been in high 70's. Just beautiful.
How is Brody doing Ledom? Haven't heard much about him lately. Our cat has gotten big and a very glossy black. He is an inside cat but we take him out on a leash or on a long string if we are sitting around the yard well now he is continually bugging to go outside. He is very vocal about it.
I lost 2 lbs. this week (but remember it is 2 of the 10 I gained back).

Good morning to all of you.. I had a great easter and hope each of you did. but this day is a new one and have some wt to get off. ha i watched it but up a bit.. Judi your garden sounds so pretty. we love flowers. been planting my dalia bulbs and glads also.. so now going to get petunias and set all out front and alonethe side of fence. we love them our favorite. We just got another dog. an outside one part german shepard.. shes to help keep deer out of garden this year. I have never had a outdoor one. first time she whined at nite i was ready to bring her over here. but never as we want her to get use to it. she was better last nite to.. she will get use to it. has a nice dog house. glad all the animals are fine to. there like family to us. took our little boston bull terrier over to see her and hes blind but they done ok. he just was nervous over there as around here he knows his way around. that is on lot across road. well Hey to all have a great day. lets get back to the plans now. ha

judi, Brody is fine. Still chewing socks, but he has let up on the sofa. He is a little over a year now and very handsome. He is a mess too, he has taught Bea (the sweet cat) how to chew through the food bag. Now I have to keep it in a plastic container, never a problem before Brody came here to live.
I have noticed two TV commercials lately featuring Boston Terriers, they seem to be the new "it" dog. I always think of my 3fc friends when I see those commericials.
All is well here. Over a bit of a hurdle at work so now it is back to just every day busy instead of super stressful busy. That is good, I was looking forward to it. Just a month of school left so I am turning my thouhts to summer plans.

A new dog LaDean! That is great! We get deer in our yard too. The things I don't want them to eat are within a garden fence and the rest of the plants are basically deer proof. It is nice though to see a wild creature out in the yard. Once I had a trumpeter swan land in my yard. It was great, he stayed about an hour.
Brody sounds like a very clever cat. Only a month to go...way to go! Do you plan on going anywhere?
Yesterday I had lunch with my D. and grandson...first time we met for mass and lunch since he has been born. He was good too. This weekend is his baptsim and then the other grandmother is having a baptismal tea. I have made a 4 layer hazel nut cake and will icing it with coffee icing. (I have frozen the layers and just have to assemble) Then I ordered one which should yield 30 peices. I dreamt they didn't do it they I wanted it and I wrecked the cake shop, I was throwing cakes and punching cakes and then in my dream ran over a parking attendent (but he was ok and turned out to be wanted by the FBI). I wonder what Freud would think of that dream?
Trying to get all tempt-able food out of my house...No not by eating :lol: , well ok maybe some of it...but by throwing it out.
I am finding the best thing for breakfast for me is 2 WW toasts with tuna. I can go on that until about 2 pm without so much as a hunger twinge.

Yes, I am really excited about a trip I have planned. One of my best friends has agreed to go to Santa Fe w/ me. She is one of the women with whom I hike and we also take yoga together. Being a single mom, most of my vacations have been child oriented, so I am looking forward to a vacation w/ someone who enjoys some of the things I do. I know we'll hike, go out at night, etc. We are going in just a month, about a week after school is out. A week after we get back I am going on an 80 mile paddling trip w/ the Ozark Society. So, I will be starting my summer off w/ travel and then I plan to tuck into some darkroom work, reading, etc. DD will be going to summer school and living in her first apartment so that will be new. For all the times I have grumped about planning life around her, this year I will have no excuse not to do what I want and need to do.

Hi ladies, How's it going?
Not much new here but it IS Friday and the weekend is coming up. Weigh in this morning was not so thrilling, I stayed the same this week. So, I'm sure to have a good one next week wouldn't you think? I am at the number I always get stuck at and so I will be patient this time and work through it, realizing that this is just a speed bump.
A really nice thing happened at my yoga class last night. My teacher complimented my progress. I could tell I was really doing good and I was thinking how much better I could do some of the poses, some I could barely do when I first started. I love yoga as much as I did in the beginning. There is this pose where you stand w/ your feet really wide apart and touch your hands to the floor and eventually try to rest your head on the floor. I can almost do that, with a block I was able to rest my head on the floor, then you turn your hands around and reach them on the floor behind you. Don't know if you get the picture, but while I was doing it I was thinking how I couldn't believe I was actually doing that. Very empowering. For any yogi lurkers, I know it is a small accomplishment for what is possible, it was amazing for me to do it though. Anyway, praise from my teacher made me feel like a little kid, very proud.

We had some wet and wild weather the beginning of this week. Had some awful T/storms come through Monday and Tuesday. Monday we lost our power for 4-5 hrs. and it was hiccupping on Tuesday, but it did manage to stay on. We had really high winds both days. It has finally warmed back up into the 80's.
LaDean, how is the new dog and how is Tuffy taking it? We've taken Lacee on a few walks and she has met a few dogs. She was her usual bratty self. She seems to be enjoying herself. DH & I went shopping today and found this great store that sells all kinds of dog breed items. I got a lot of Boston Terrier things. We got a nice statue of a Boston and a few other things.
ledom, that's a nice compliment your Yoga instructor gave you. That is fantastic that you've become more flexible. I got the EFL book and have been reading over the diet. I have a couple of questions for you. Do you have to use the protein bars and protein powder or can I just use some of the between meal recipes? Also, do I have to do all the body building exercises, or would it be alright to walk for my exercise? The recipes look delicious. Speaking of all the commercials with Boston Terriers in them, the Boston in the one for Zyrtec walks exactly like Lacee on a leash.
judi, I'm glad that you had such a nice lunch with your D and Grandson. Way to go on the weight loss! Have a wonderful time at the christening.

Aleka, oh its so good your back. have missed you and lacee. glad you had a fun time and lacee met some friends and all. these dogs like to have attority i think,ha Our new dog is fine. her name is Jade. shes a good dog and minds. we fixed her a shelter and all. so shes getting use to it all. has a nice dog house but the other dog used it and she does not go inside at all. so this has front open and she can see out and all. so anyhows she is a big baby and wears me out playing. i try to go over twice a day and hubby goes over and feeds her and walks her. so hopefully no deer in garden this year. lol its raining here last 3 days. i jsut got in from my morning walk. had my gospel music part way and so was a nice walk. for 2 days i had missed one. well hey glad your back and all. i leave may 14-16 for our tops SRD and its at coast. 12 going so a blast we have and alot of encouragement and inthusium i get. well have a good day..
All the rest of you have a great weekend. i started yesterday being honest with my eating and all. so my week starts then and not on monday to get off what i have put on weekend. lol so lets all get with it and stick to it... LaDean

Good morning! LaDean, I am not sure but I think Alice is checking in from Florida - think she's on vacation for another week. Your trip sounds fun. I love traveling with my friends. It has been a while since a bunch of us got together but it is fun to hang out with a bunch of women - brings the silly out in me, how about you. I know what you mean about being honest with yourself on your diet. That is certainly something I have struggled with. I think just becoming aware when you are doing it (fooling yourself) is a big step in the right direction.
Alice, I am pondering your question about EFL w/out the weights. I wish I could say it would work just as well but it probably won't. On the other hand, I think you can have success with it. For one thing, the eating plan is not so restrictive that you can't keep it up for the long term so right off the bat that is a big plus. It is nutritionally balanced so that recommends it. And, if you plan to walk or do some form of exercise everyday then you are almost there. Is there a reason you don't want to do the weights? It is so good for you. The books "Strong Women Stay Healthy", and "Strong Women Stay Young" are good at explaining why it is so good for you. For one thing it makes your bones stronger, it gets rid of the fat that is marbled through your muscles, it gives you strength in your day to day activities. Well, I am sure you already know this stuff. I really wish you'd pose your question on the EFL thread because I think it would start a really good discussion from better read sources than myself. But to ultimately answer your question, I'd try it even w/out the weights. And on the shakes and bars, NO, you do not have to use them. In fact I don't know that it isn't better not to use them. Real food is always better IMO. Oh yeah, sorry to hear about your stormy weather, hope it improves for you.

Ledom. thanks so much i remember her saying that now. da....lol Hey glad all is going good your way. yes its fun to get away. my hubby is a stay at home body. he loves it. but he knows i love to go. so i can and i am happy its ok with him and all. we have 2 couples going but there at another house. we wanted it just girls. this is first time we got a house. i wish we had gotten on boardwalk and all. but hey to spendy really. so this will work out. we can walk over there and exercise to. so that is good. ha

LaDean, I'm still in FL basking in this warm sunshine. We are here for another week, leaving next Monday. You're going to have so much fun getting away with the girls. I have the best time when I go to NYC with my cousin. When are you going?
ledom, thank you for your input on EFL. Down deep I know I should be lifting weights, but to me it looks like it would be very boring. That is the only reason I don't lift weights. I like to do things fast, and that is one reason I prefer to walk. Don't ever go to a mall with me as I weave in and out trying to get around people. :lol: DH has learned the hard way as he's been left behind on a number of occasions. :snail: I have seen an exercise tape by Kathy Smith on lifting weights. I will look for the tape, and maybe if I can lift weights along to music it won't be too bad. I really like the eating plan and DH is willing to do it with me. Seeing the before and after pictures has inspired me.
judi, how was the christening and how were your cakes?

Hey Alice, I posed your question on the EFL thread and one opinion from a gal that has had great success w/ it recommends that you take in fewer calories if you don't lift weights. Maybe 5 meals instead of 6? I would encourage you to give lifting a try though. Sometimes I am bored by it to tell the truth, but not always. The challenge of it can make it interesting and especially as you begin to see yourself getting stronger and start see those muscles. You'll work it out for yourself though. I think you will like the diet.

Aleka, that is what Ledom said. so i know your having a ball. lucky you. enjoy all the sunshine and get that good tan... glad your hubby is interested in that plan to. working together is great it helps both that way. my hubby does not need to lose but he eats like i do alot. so is nice when cooking time. ha I have lifted weights when i go to a gym. but i am not into the muscle thing. but i am not as young as you gals either. maybe at your ages i should have. lol My scales i want to report are down a lb from friday. Yehhhhhhhh i love that. had my walk this morning and the old dark cloud was right over me. but it never happen. like i was being watched. ha ha i just have so much to be thankful for and each day i try to stay in a positive mood . i am not thinking about my eating so much and this is helping me i think... well hey have a fun day in the sunshine..... oh i go May 14-16 to the beach for our tops SRD. can hardly wait. getting closer..

Good morning, how is everyone doing?
Things are good here. Today marks the completion of the fourth week of seriously sticking to my eating plan and exercise schedule. I can feel the difference too. I feel stronger, straighter, and almost slimmer. I am down a few lbs., my clothes are fitting better.
To work on - more water on a daily basis. I do good one day and forget the next.

Good evening ladies,
This is the first chance I've had to post. I can't believe our vacation is almost over. We're heading home Monday, taking our time, and plan on arriving home Thursday. On one hand I'll be sorry to leave this great weather, but on the other hand I'm anxious to get home. I probably won't get a chance to post again until I get home.
The temp today was 87 deg. and the humidity is climbing. Not too bad to take.
ledom, we were watching the Weather Channel and your area was under a tornado watch. I hope nothing materialized and everything is ok with you. Thank you for posting the question for me. I think I will have 5 meals instead of 6. I am not usually hungry mid afternoon. I am still looking for that Kathy Smith weight lifting VHS tape. All I've been able to find is DVD. We do have a DVD player, but it's very complicated to use.

I had the pizza but never went to bad with it.. i allowed for. scales up a bit this morning but i weigh everyday so i except and move on in a postive attitude. Had my walk this morning and a good one.. sticking to plan. i also am watching my carbs some..

Alice, there was a lot of flooding and storming in the state but it was all north of us. For that I am thankful.
Yesterday I visited a nursery/greenhouse and bought a variety of herb plants. Some people grow beautiful flowers but I seem to have more success w/ herbs. I planted them last night and it made me feel so good. I should work in my yard more. Anyway, I hope I'll be happy with where I put them, last year I had zinnias in that bed which I enjoyed a lot. I found a curry plant, that was something new for me. It is really pretty, a gray plant, and smells so good.
Ah, this is the last week of classes. Next week is finals. I am so not in the mood to be working. The weather is gorgeous, I am tired of work, etc., etc. I plan to really enjoy the summer.

Hi LaDean - glad you posted. You're right, we have been awfully quiet here this week. I am doing good but not much new to report. I am still doing my diet and workouts and think I am doing well though I didn't show a loss this week. It is due to some water retention that we deal with once a month. I am not letting lack of weight loss derail me however, I am still feeling very determined. Glad to hear that you are as well.

Lots of rain where I live today Alice. I got up early and went to a yoga class this morning w/ two of my friends. One friends first time to take the class. It was a good way to start the day. Laundry, cooking, etc. on my agenda today. Looking forward to an afternoon nap as well.

Itsa me! Decided to diet again...sigh...I know it for the 100th time but I MUST do something.
I signed up with WW online again...I know the new low carb diets work the fastest but I can't even begin to think I will have the discipline to stay on that so for me if I DO IT WW will be best.
I hope you are all enjoying summer and you are getting good weather. It is beautiful this year here. My garden is starting to look nice. I am not doing anything in it...I am hiring people to work in it...another thing I have to face about my self...the only thing about gardening I like is the buying of plants and wandering around in it...not the getting my hands in the dirt part so instead of just letting it go until I get around to it, I am getting someone else to do it. My DH keeps trying to inspire me to go do it :p but no way :coffee:
SO who is exercising and at what???
The baby was here this weekend. He has two dimples...neither side of the family has dimples so it is very cute.
My DH is liking retirement but I think he is missing telling people what to do (he was in mangement) so we are having a little "adjustment" problem in that area. Otherwise all is well. I hope I will have some good dieting news soon.

This sis the first time I ever stopped at this forum before. So just a little intro…….I started out on the low carb site. Started low carb with my boyfriend., he did well of course, I lost initially, but then stalled out after 15 lbs and just thought eating that way with no weight lose was not worth it……I missed my carbs!!!
So I joined WW on-line. I had lost over 100 lbs on WW years ago ad I know it is a good plan. But I found that I was obsessing about food, what would I eat next? What would I order for dinner? What if I planned my eating day and then something came up? It took over a lot of time just thinking about food all the time. So I have stopped that. Two years ago I lost 100 lbs (again ;) ) on just simply eating in moderation, which meant eating WHAT I wanted, sometimes even popcorn for dinner or an ice cream cone for lunch----not all the time, but occasionally :o ! I also exercised 5-6 times a week. I walked, swam laps, biked and did strength training. I stalled out for over a year at 100 lbs lost on that. I lived happily that way for an additional year, but then the weight started creeping on…..so I NEED to get back to the program, what ever it is and do it. I work as a special education consultant and spend my work days driving or sitting in meetings. Lunch is out most of the time, I try to stick to get choices, and do a pretty good job most of the time. I will be getting some time off mid June so that will help.
Anyway that is my story……I look forward to participating on this forum!
I will weigh myself this week and update that!!!!

I hope everyone had a good mother's day. Mine was busy until about 2 and then it was lazy. I just got up from watching TV for the last 3 hours. I have been neglecting my kayaking and plan to go out early in the morning and watch the sun rise on the lake. It may even be warm enough to swim.

LaDean, when are you leaving for your trip? Have a great time. D and I are going to Ft. Worth at the end of the week. Next Monday I leave for Santa Fe! Lots to do to get ready for both these trips.
One thing judi is to get all the little plants I have purchased in the ground - wish your gardner could come pay me a visit.

I got this friday morning and stay till sunday. there will be 4 of us in one house. 2 gals had to back out. so we each get our room. ha then in the condo there will be 6. we always get so much inthusium and encouragement. always see gals and guys that have lost 100 so lbs. and so this helps me to be thankful for what i have to lose and that they did it and so can i. your trips sound fun to . for mothers day daughter got me outfits to wear even 2 pair of pj's and a gown. i said hey one for every evening ha ha this is always a fun time.. It is 21.95 a month for online WW. I like it, it has a point calculator, weight tracker, note book online and everything else you need...I made one of the scallop recipes tonight and had them with fresh asparagus (sp??)
Ledom, you and me both...I have some lily bulbs I have to plant and 5 pots of Baby's Breath. Have fun on your trip! I like both Ft. Worth and Santa Fe.
I am using Dr. Schapiro's "Picture Perfect Weight Loss" book as well. It is good to remind myself how really much I can eat if I choose wisely. I am just taking one day at a time and am not going to let my past failures defeat me.

Hey judi, I got my beds planted yesterday but not my potted flowers. I am leaving today around 3 so maybe I'll get a chance to do it then. If not I have to get it done Sunday before leaving again. It is supposed to be rainy the next couple days so at least they won't dry up and die in their little pots.
No, does no good to look back! We just have to forge ahead, but try to learn from mistakes. My DD put on a few lbs. at school this year so now that I have her home we are both working hard to keep our food nutritious and low cal. We are taking the trip to Ft. Worth together and have spent much time planning what to eat. We'll be taking an ice chest so we can take a lot of our food.

Yes i am getting more excited daily. can hardly wait. we get all pumped up to with the meetings and all the lossers and how much they have lost and all. alot of encouragement and inthusium . I will just miss my tuffy. hes a boston bull terrier and hes blind. he searches the house for me when out of sight. but hubby and daughter will be here for him.. so they say go enjoy and not worry. so i pray alot and know i will have a ball. i am getting ready for a walk in awhile. nice morning for one. my eating this week has been ok to. we leave friday morning and its our tops meeting so no weigh in. so really have to be good as it will be two weeks before we weigh in. but going to do some cooking at the houses they have kitchen and all. saves some to. also have dibetics in group and helps them alot to. so will be fun eating that way we can watch it better. I am glad all is going good with you and the ww. sounds neat all those tools to work with. i have the ww material so keep points some to. then they came out with the new pyrmaid thing with points and its looks like its helpful alot.
Ledom glad all is going good with you... we got the potatoes in garden. dalias are coming up so good. still waiting to do rest and get my petunias and germanias and all. is alittle cool here yet... so taking no chances. hubby said apple trees are loaded with little apples. so looks like a good year for those. i am going to put some flowers in pots a nd sit around this year. want to get some in my bowls i got.,

Tuffy sounds so sweet. Marley (Lhasa Apso) follows me everywhere. Having these little companions is such a blessing.
My D put on weight after the baby. She is quite concerned because she has always so slim.

Well I said I would weigh in this week and I did :mad: and I was up 6.6 pounds!!!!!!! I have been back on track for a few days though so that is good!!!! I have had a busy weekend doing lots of yard work, but that has kept me from the Y. I guess I count the HOURS of digging up the yard to reseed as exercise. I did have a little "accident" though.....classic 3 stoogies, stepped on my rake and bonked :stars: my head with the rake! I saw stars!!!! :faint: but besides a lump on my head I made it! Then week nights I have been doing some other planting.
So I guess I need to get on the stick and get back to it! I have no kids, and I am not married, so you would think my time is my own, but I still run out of it everyday :flow2:. I do have a goal to get down to 230 by August 1st! I think it is do-able and I will feel alot better. My plan is to eat only one "larger" meal a day with 2 smaller ones, like a sandwich or lean cuisine. That way I can eat a bigger breakfast of dinner if I want depending on my day and plan. I also will exercise at least 5 days a week and mix it up with walking, biking, swimming and strength training thrown in! :strong:
Anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry that I've been MIA. I believe I mentioned we were selling our summer cottage. The day after we got home from FL the RE agent called to tell me that everything the buyers wanted to do was approved and that she'd get back to me with a closing date. So, that meant we had to clean it out which took 3-4 days to do. We closed yesterday and between cleaning the place out and closing, I was sort of blue :( and just couldn't even think about dieting. I'm still kinda :( but, glad that everything is finally over with. It was a long and drawn out process.
A week from tomorrow (Fri.), Lacee, DH & I are heading back down to FL to seriously start looking for a house. We'll be gone for 2 weeks.
I'm more than ready to get back to eating right and exercising. Yesterday I dug out my WW material to look over.
I've been lurking to see how you all were doing and it looks like you all are doing wonderfully. Keep it up.
ledom, LaDean, I hope you both have a great time on your trips.
Lilybutt, Welcome! Your plan to lose weight sounds like a good one. I've stepped on a rake before and it really does hurt.
judi, good luck with WW. Glad that you're looking forward to doing it. I'm going to read over my material today. I really think I'm ready this time.

Alice!! You are moving to Florida! Wow! That is exciting news...did I miss something in the early posts or is that "breaking news?" I can imagine feeling :( about the cottage, it sounded so lovely. House selling and house hunting is stressful at the best of times. Best wishes for you!!
Hi Lilybutt! I would like to see 230 too! For me that would be a bit more than the first 10% WW encourages one to aim for a sort of first goal...I would like to be there by late fall anyway. Good for you for doing your gardening...that is good for burning up calories.

I am finding the high fibre 1 point bread such a diet saver...I can have sandwiches and they can be low point and I am eating a carb (carboholic here...) I am not making bread or buying any other type...out of sight out of mind.

Aleka and Lacee, moving to fl how neat. i know its hard to move and all. but then things get to going and its fun... hope so for you.. can't wait till your back on here and tell us all about house hunting and all. that should be fun.. well i been busy today getting packed. got to get hair done this afternoon. then go by store. and packed tonite so no wrinkles. ha ha i am so excited and ready for a vacation. but to i am hating to leave tuffy. i know hubby and sis will take good care of him. but every since he lost his site i hate to go away. he looks all over for me when he does not have me near him. but God will take care of him so i plan to enjoy. my daughter and hubby said go and enjoy so i plan to. has been awhile since i have gone anywhere. hes ok and all and gets in playful moods. I am glad you got your ww things out. i like the plan been doing it now for awhile. once you get started as you know remember what alot of the pts are and all. well have a great day

I did pretty well yesterday counting points. I did have to dip into my flex points though. :( We went to McDonalds for lunch to get one of their new adult Happy Meals, which includes a pedometer. DH & I thought wearing the pedometer will encourage us to get in our 10,000 steps per day! Hopefully I'll do better today and not have to do any dipping. :)
LaDean, Tuffy will have some good sitters while you are gone. Lacee is the same way when I leave for any length of time. Once a week I usually take a day and have lunch and take in a movie or shop with a friend. DH says that Lacee just mopes around the house until I get home. Enjoy your trip!
judi, DH & I just got back from FL a couple weeks ago. Before you came back I mentioned something about moving down to FL in a previous post when/if we sold the cottage. We had to close down our machine shop, which we've had for 20 years, because of no work. We have been talking about moving to FL for years. DH thought this would be a good time to go because of work and this past winter was very hard on both of us. We did look at houses while we were there earlier this month, but hadn't closed on the cottage so we really weren't actively looking. If we don't find any houses we like, we'll be staying in NH. I have found low carb bread in our area that is only 1 point for 2 slices. I try not to eat any bread made with white flour and this bread is made with good ingredients, or so the label says. ;) When I was Somersizing, I really missed having sandwiches.

LaDean, Tuffy will miss his mommy for sure but ok too. I know I just go down to the store and Marley goes bonkers when I come back just like I have gone to China or something. Have fun with the girls this weekend.
Alice, moving to Fl. is so exciting but you are living in a pretty nice part of the world already. Just snowy.
I have been within my points all week...so far haven't used any flex points. I am eating a lot of those packets of peas...they are a good snack because they are crunchy and a veg.
I have been looking at no/low carb diets and cookbooks and sites...I could never do it, especially with not eating meat.
My garden is being worked on today (by two people) it is almost there...a state where I can handle it, the gardening part I mean. Face it, I am too fat to be pitch forking and shovelling. I am so HAPPY about how the garden is turning out now that I have had help. Earlier in my life I wanted to do everything myself...no more.
Are you shopping till you drop in Ft. Worth Ledom??? I found some nice stuff when I was there last year. I haven't done a megashop in anything for awhile.

Hey girls, I just wanted to check in before leaving again tomorrow. Alice, good luck with your house search. I hope that, and know that, you will find your answer for the right thing as far as settling down. Be careful on the road.
judi, D and I looked and dreamed at Williams and Sonoma and Neiman Marcus, then went to Target and dropped a bundle, all the time thinking how much money we were saving. You know us, we love to shop, and love a bargain as well. But mostly we were visiting museums, I got a good art fix and know there is more to come when we get to SF. Keep fighting the the good fight on your eating and exercise, you'll be seeing and feeling results before you know it.
LaDean, I know you will have had a good trip. I look forward to reading about it when I get back.
