Hi,
I drug out all my old Atkins books and what do you know? I had a copy of the french toast recipe stuck to the front of one of the books. There is also a recipe for pork rind stuffing stuck on there too. Anyway, I'm starting induction tomorrow. I went to the store and bought all kinds of fresh vegetables, meat and cheese. I've done badly with my eating the past several days and this will get me back on track. Actually, I spent less at the store than I usually do, probably because I bought mostly fresh and no prepackaged stuff.
It was fairly decent here today, in the upper 40's and sunny. I am already sick of it getting dark so soon and not being able to go out and work in my garden. I have lots of leaves to rake, but for some reason, that doesn't appeal to me. It was great to take a shower. We had to wait until the caulking was good and dry. Aleka, all the things I did were easy, just follow the directions and maybe read a good home improvement book for suggestions.
Well, got to get going, Nikki

Nikki - I'm glad to see you're feeling better and glad that the DH made it safely. Congrats on your choice to give atkins another try. Hopefully I'll see you on the atkins thread, too. :)
Aleka - I started atkins on July 15 of this year. I actually lost 20 pounds over the first 3 weeks and then the weight loss slowed down. I'm currently at the lowest I've been in almost 8 years, so I'm having a real battle with my body because it's stalled out on me for a couple of weeks now. Still, I think 40 pounds in less than 4 months is pretty good. :D

Went down to MA to visit my cousin. We had been on the road since 6:00 am this morning, and I am rather pooped. DH took off and did his own thing, and my cousin & I did a lot of shopping. Got DH a few more Christmas gifts.
nikki, when was the last time you did Atkins? That's fantastic that you're going to give it another try. Good luck to you! I have been SSizing, just about all week and did manage to lose 2 lbs. I made her cheeseburger pie and it is delicious.:T
StarPrincess, losing 20 lbs. over the first 3 weeks is quite an accomplishment.:cp: That is wonderful. Losing 40 lbs. in under 4 months is awesome! The reason for your stall could be that your body is catching up to your weight loss. You really have done well.
ANNE, hope you're having a good weekend.
Have a great evening.

Aleka, I did Atkins last year, and not for very long. It was right after we did SS. I switched to Atkins because I wanted to lose weight faster. I just couldn't stay on induction for 2 weeks, so went to on going weight loss and added in some carbs. I'm really going to try to stay on induction for the 2 weeks this time.
Oh Star, your weight loss is truely wonderful. I will have to keep you in mind when I want to cheat or go off induction.
Anne, hope your having a good, relaxing weekend and getting some sleep.
Take care, Nikki

Good Morning All:
Nikki, funny thing you should mention sleep I had an all nighter
with David:faint: I was watching a show on CNN after midnight
about face lifts etc. It was pretty interesting stuff. Did you guys
happen to see it?
Aleka, I eat cheeseburger pie once a week. I just love it:T
It is freezing here today. I finally gave in and started wearing
my winter jacket.
Well I better get to work before  comes around. I am
going to listen to my PP tapes.
Talk to you later.

ANNE, it has gotten colder here too. It's been in the 20's most mornings. I am back into my winter duds. :( I just love the cheeseburger pie. I will definitely make it again. Have you made any other of her recipes that you liked? I like her cream cheese pizza recipe, but DH doesn't. No, I didn't see the CNN show about face lifts.
nikki, how did your first day of induction go? I am easing my way into SSizing...taking baby steps. When I was visiting my cousin she gave me some unsweetened flavored water that has just a touch of carbonation. It is so good. DH & I stopped at the grocery store chain where she gets it and stocked up on it. I usually drink Fruit 2o, but it's got Splenda in it, and I would like to cut down on my artificial sweetener consumption. Has your bleeding lessened or stopped?
StarPrincess, hope you had a good day yesterday.
On this holiday I'll be thinking of the sacrifices made by our service men and women past and present.
Have a good Vetrans Day and Rememberance Day.

Good Morning All:
Aleka, I helped my son Sean compose a prayer for school last
night for Remembrance day. This was part of the homework
assignment. Our schools always observe November 11 through movies and having veterns give a lecture to our students
It is no longer a holiday in Canada as it once was when I was in school. Are your schools open in the US today?
It is pouring rain today. I am really growing tired of this gloomy
weather:(
How is everyone else today????

It's a holiday in the US. All the schools are closed along with banks, the Post Office and some businesses. The stores will be open. There are all sorts of parades going on today too. That was a nice assignment your son had for school. We are having a lot of WW II movies on one of our movie channels. We've watched quite a few. We watched Midway yesterday, and we plan on watching The Longest Day later this afternoon.
Take care.

Hi Aleka:
Love the longest day. What a great movie. A few years ago
when my parents were on vacation they went to beach in
Normandy. They were very moved by the experience. Some of
the original rafts still remain to this day.
Our banks and government offices are also closed.
I forgot to tell you last night we celebrated my sister Lyndas
birthday. I gave in and had a big piece of chocolate cake.
It was wonderful but boy oh boy did I have a stomach ache
after. Guess I'm not use to the goodies anymore.
Have a great day everyone.

ANNE,
A belated birthday wish to your sister. :hb: My cousin, who I visited with on Sunday celebrates her birthday towards the end of the month. We had a small celebration, just DH, her, and myself. We brought down a very small cake that serves 4 and stopped at a grocery store near her house and got some ice cream. The cake wasn't too..too bad, but I tasted the ice cream for the rest of the night.:p It's funny, I have no desire to eat sweets anymore, and as Martha Stewart says, "It's a good thing"
Take care.

HI,
I'm ok now, Aleka. It was like a faucet, when DH left, it stopped. He says I just didn't want to travel with his dad, maybe my body was doing just that.:)
Anne, Happy Birthday to your sis. It's hard to refuse or resist bd cake and ice cream, but then you have to pay for it later. I've always had a problem with cake, so I don't miss it at all.
Which cookbook is the cheeseburger pie in? I've been searching all morning for a fudge recipe for DD and don't want to go hunting for another recipe again. I made pork rind dressing last night and it was disgusting. They said to use good quality pork rinds, I bought Frito Lays and they are more expensive, but still, it was just like eating pork rinds. I think I've just eaten too many of them.
Induction is going well. I can't believe what a small amount of vegetables equals 20 g of carbs. I ate 2 cups of salad yesterday and 1 cup of green beans and with my eggs, meat and cheese, I was still over by 1.8 grams of carbs. There are a few carbs in eggs and some cheese. Then your suppose to count each pkt of splenda as 1 carb. Good thing I don't use much of that anymore.
We are waiting for a guy to come and give us an estimate for new gutters. It is nice today, but will only last one day. Sunny and in the 60's. I plan on raking some or doing something outside, if it's too wet to rake.
Anne, what are the PP tapes your listening to?
Take care, Nikki
ANNE D
11-11-2003, 01:34 PM
Nikki:
I bought the PP plan on ebay last year for 10 bucks. It included
several manuals 4 audio tapes and 1 VHS.
Basically the four audios explain the program. It is very motivating. The doctors talk about different cases they have
dealt with for instance a lady who use to go home and eat 1 pound of butter mixed with 1 pound of sugar each day, a man
who's weight was normal but he had serious cholesterol and
blood pressure problems.....stuff like that. The tapes also deal
with going off the plan and how that is ok even good for you
once in a while.
Very very similar to the atkins diet. The main difference I see
is you are allowed a few more carbs a day but you must eat
a designated amount of protein with each meal as the cornerstone of your eating plan. You may eat more protein but
never less.
Personally, I feel low carbing has really improved my health, I
wouldn't eat any other way:)
Anne.

We had sleet and snow yesterday afternoon, which turned to all snow. We got a dusting and the ground is white. It's supposed to warm up to the 40's/50's today so hopefully this will all melt.
Ann, we finished off SS cheeseburger pie. It was good, but we found it a little greasy. I had read that on her website so I used really good hamburger and sprayed the pan with butter flavored PAM instead of buttering it. Does your's come out greasy too?
Are you going to try the PP plan for awhile or will you be sticking with SSizing? My cholesterol came down when I started SSizing. I was surprised my cholesterol stayed within the same range when I was on WW last year. I figured that even though I was eating more carbs, I was eating the right carbs.
nikki, the cheeseburger pie recipe is in SS Fast & Easy cookbook. If you don't have the cookbook, if you'd like, I can PM you. Her egg crepe lasagna recipe is in there too. Glad that your bleeding stopped altogether. It's good that the induction is going well. Did the guy show up for the gutters?

Good Morning All:
Aleka, yes the cheeseburger pie is on the greasy side. I think
it is because of all the fat in the cheese. I had that for supper
last night too:)
Generally speaking, I am following PP. I am hoping when I
reach my "goal weight" I will do Suzannes to maintain my
weight. The most positive change I have noticed is my B/P.
it is in the range of 114/72. Amazing.

Good morning,
Atkins is going really well. I still have a big problem with eating late at night, I want to eat everything in sight. I did stay under 20 g of carbs yesterday. It's the cream that I go nuts over. I should cut it out completely. You can have 2-3 oz a day and I want a cup. I did cut out the caffiene this time, got some of those Folgers 1 cup coffee bags in decaf and it is really good with cream. I decided to start drinking green tea, I've tried a lot of brands and I think Salada is by far the best, so I'm having that with breakfast. I saw on the news this morning that they think that if you drink green tea right after being exposed to HIV, you won't develop it. I don't know how true that is, but I know that green tea is a great anitoxidant and well worth drinking a cup of with all the infections starting up this time of year.
Anne, I went to ebay and checked out the pp tapes. One was going for $35. I'll keep an eye on it, you can get a good deal sometimes like you did.
Have you heard about Greer? Looks like some kind of lawsuit. I went to the BF site and Sherry is really upset. I don't know the specifics, it was on some news program. If you hear of a link, let me know, I'd like to read about it.
Aleka, I have that cookbook, I looked up the recipe and will try it tonight. I think I'll decrease the cheese by 1/2 and maybe add some chopped fresh mushrooms. They can really absorb the grease and add some bulk to a dish too. I'll let you know how it turns out. I was just going to make hamburgers anyway.
The gutter guy came and told us he could do the house and garage for $350, so we will go ahead with it. It is a pain in the behind to try to do that yourself. Besides, these will be seamless.
Right now, the weather is not too bad, but they say that we will have winds up to 55 mph this afternoon.
My B/P is so much better too. Before I started, I remember my B/P was 210/130, pulse was 120 now it runs 120/70 and my pulse is 70. Plus, I use to have chest pain a lot, now I don't. I went to a cardiologist about the chest pain and he said that what I needed to do was lose weight, exercise and stop smoking. His bedside manner was horrible, so he didn't inspire me to follow his advice, althought, he was right.
Hope you have good days, Nikki

Good morning!
Glad to hear everyone's doing good.
Nikki - happy induction-ing! I had a cream issue, too. I finally realized that I could just not add it to my decaf and still be fine. Now I'm off decaf even. I found some sugarfree chocolate soy milk that's only got 1 gram of carbs per 8 ounces, so I've been heating it up and having hot cocolate :)
 Aleka! That's some weather you're having! Yikes!
My blood pressure has dropped significantly, too. I was at 142/93 when I started this woe. Now it's 114/68. I'd definitely call that an improvement. :D
I tried out the hour long accelerated body sculpting video in my winsor pilates series. OMG - that was hard! It still feels great and I'm looking forward to being able to do all the moves without modifying them. How wierd is this - I had to keep stopping because point my toes was causing my arches to cramp. Why on earth would that be happening? :?:
nikkic
11-12-2003, 01:30 PM
Star, I don't know if this would be related to your arches cramping, but do you take supplements as Dr. Atkins suggests? I take potassium daily as I was having a lot of leg cramps at night when I was going to sleep. Like I said, it might not be related to that, it could just be that your stretching a muscle more than you've stretched it before.
I like Pilates too. I was using an old Pilates tape and gave it to my DD. Then I got the Winsor tapes and they are pretty much the same, so I sent them back and will just get my old tape back (she's not using it anyway). I do know that the hour long tape is real hard. I tried it and could only do about 20 min then just laid back and watched the rest, in awe.
I will have to either stop using cream, or just drink a few cups of coffee a day for a dessert like treat. I'll give it til I run out, then decide.

Yes, I take a daily multi-vitamin, but I think I should look around for a different one. Based on what I read, cramps can be a result from deficiencies in calcium, potassium, magnesium, or sodium. I know I get plenty of potassium and sodium, so I'll look for a multi with more of the other two. It could also just be that I generally wear shoes with heels 2-4 inches high (I'm in denial about my real height) and going from that to pointed toes may be just really difficult for my underdeveloped arch muscles. :)
Thanks for the advice :D

11-12-2003, 09:50 PM
Hi,
Star, I figured you were following his advice, you do such a good job with your weight loss and taking care of yourself. I take a seperate calcium and magnesium supplement because I don't think I get enough with just a multi, but I need to find a better multi myself. Mine is slow release and from what I've read, you should take one that dissolves in 20 or 30 min.
Aleka and Anne, I made the cheeseburger pie tonight and I changed the recipe a lot. It turned out really good and not at all greasy. It was a little watery, I wonder if that was from the mushrooms and maybe if they were cooked first and their water disgarded that it might not be watery. Anyway, here's the ingredients I used-2 lbs hamburger, 8 oz fresh mushrooms chopped, 1 small onion chopped, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 4 eggs beaten, 1/2 cup cream, 1/2 cup sour cream, salt and pepper to taste. Browned the hamburger, onion and drained. Saute the mushrooms in a seperate pan and drain any excess liquid. Add the rest of the ingredients to the hamburger with the mushrooms, stir and bake in a 13x9 pan for 40 min. Top with 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese the last 15 min.
Even DH thought it had a good taste.
Guess I'll go finish up the dishes, Nikki

We are having some heavy rain..for the moment anyway. It's supposed to get a lot colder and we're supposed to get some accumulating snow overnight tonight. They haven't given any totals yet. We also have a wind advisory with 60 mph wind gusts at times. All in all a nasty day.
StarPrincess, congratulations on lowering your blood pressure. Your numbers are fantastic. You really are an inspiration! Mine runs between 112/70 - 115/72. It usually runs high in the Dr. office, but one time the reading was 115/70 and her eyes widened, and felt for a pulse! I must've been calm that day at the Dr. Along with multi-vitamins I also take supplements like Vitamin E, Fish Oil (I can't stand fish:p ), Calcium, etc.
nikki, your blood pressure numbers are great! Your cheeseburger pie sounds delicious. I never thought to put in sour cream. HMMMM! Do onions have a lot of moisture? I'm not familiar with cooking them. Maybe it could be the combination of both musrooms & onion. I copied the recipe and will print it out. I drink my coffee black..no sugar. I've been drinking it like this for about 20+ years and can't drink it any other way. It took me almost a year to switch from coffee creamer and sugar to drinking it black. I am still drinking regular coffee in the morning. But, if I have coffee during the day it's decaf. Regular coffee makes me feel full and not at all hungry.
Suzanne will be on HSN starting this afternoon. I got a newsletter in my e mail this morning and she's got a lot of neat stuff. Chocolate chip cookie mix w/chocolate chips. She's also got her version of M & M's which sound interesting. She has a rotisserie (sp?) oven, and seasonings for your Thanksgiving dinner. I wish her stuff was not so expensive and with the S & H!! If our power holds out with all the wind I'll be watching her.
ANNE, I guess the 4 of us have about the same numbers for blood pressure. It must be something to do with low carb eating.
Your numbers are great! On Atkins you have to count carbs, so I was wondering if you have to count anything on PP? That's what I like about SSizing, you don't have to count anything. I think I got burned out by counting WW points last year.
Have a great day!

Good morning,
I'm taking a little break in my exercise to have a cup of decaf with a little cream, then off to the gazelle for a quick 25 min.
Aleka, your weather sounds aweful. We had winds up to 55 mph yesterday and we were so glad we didn't have snow, that will be a blizzard! Hope you don't lose your power. Your B/P is looking good too. I'm going to have to pass, if I can on watching SS. I don't want to buy anything more and lord knows, she can talk me into it. I want to get the Thanksgiving stuff and don't even know what the heck it is yet. I will look it up on the web and the s&h will be enough to turn me off. HSN charges too much for that anyway and with SS's stuff, it seems like it is doubled.
With the pie, I don't think the onions add too much moisture. But, using dehydrated onions may be helpful to absorb some more moisture. I'm pretty sure it's the mushrooms and maybe I should have drained the hamburger better. I used 92%. I used the sour cream because I was almost out of cream and also, I figured it wouldn't be as greasy with the sour cream. It did give it a great taste. This made a lot and we will have it again for supper tonight.
Aleka, haven't you ever made SS fried onions? The recipe is Fried eggs in Onion nests in the Get Skinny book. I make the fried onions with breakfast and sometimes with a steak. It is really good and you wouldn't think they are onions. They don't have a strong onion taste (depending on the variety), very sweet really from the carmelization. They replace fried potatoes for me. You have to cook them for a long time, but it's worth it.
Guess I'll get going, take care, Nikki
aleka
11-13-2003, 10:44 AM
nikki, I haven't tried the onion & eggs from SS cookbook. It does sound good. DH doesn't care for the taste of onions, he will eat some Vadalia Onions occasionally. I think I will try that, he might not mind them if they're fried like that. It's funny, I'm not a mushroom person, and he's not an onion person, but we both agreed to eat them in SS stuffing. I went into HSN, but none of her new food items were on there yet, except for the Pumpkin Creme Brulee. I have mixed feelings about buying the Thanksgiving pkg. She has mixed Somersweet & orange flavoring, to put in homemade cranberry sauce. I made cranberry sauce last year using Somersweet and it was awful.:p It didn't mix very well, some of the sauce was overly sweet and some was so tart it made your eyes water. This year I'm going to make it with Splenda. I will watch her because it's entertaining for me. Another thing she is offering is a new recipe contest cookbook. I may buy that if it's not too expensive and the S&H is reasonable. I know what you mean about her being able to talk you into buying anything!;)
Take care,
Aleka

Aleka, I don't really like somersweet. I think it has a bitter aftertaste and if you don't use it up within a certain time, it sets up like cement. Did you find the new things on her website? I will definately buy the new cookbook. I was just looking at the 1st contest book and picking out new recipes to try. It is probably my favorite cookbook as the recipes are so downhome, easy and they're all good. Plus, the ingredients are not hard to find (for most of them anyway).
I think putting splenda in the cranberries will work out better. I tend to use more splenda than they say you need. I don't think it is equal to sugar in the sweetening, but it is better than anything else I've tried.

Sherry, I was reading her posts. That was so cruel!!! She has
done done magnificent. I though I was good losing 106 pounds
she has lost over 200!!!
Aleka you count protein grams and carbos on PP. I eat 34 grams
minimum protein per meal along with up to 15 carbos per meal.
Its pretty darn easy to follow.
I miss the fruit you can have on Suzannes though. I still credit
Somercizing with the majority of my weight loss.:)

more weight?:D Gotta love it.

So on the subject of cranberry sauce.....
Be careful with the splenda. 1 packet = 1 gram of carbs. The carb comes from whatever they use to put the sweetener into powder form. That's why sugarfree syrups that use splenda have no carbs.
There's a recipe on the Atkins site for cranberry sauce. I can't get into the site right now, but if I remember correctly, you cook fresh/frozen cranberries in a combination of Steel's sugar-free raspberry jam and wanter. It looks pretty good :)
StorybookMama
11-13-2003, 02:40 PM
You could also use SF Vanilla Syrup from DaVinci's in the cranberries and that would give you the sweetness without any carbs at all.... Or, substitute whatever flavor.. spice, gingerbread, orange, etc....

Thanks Star, for the reminder. I have pretty much cut out my use of splenda, except for making salad dressing and I don't need much for that. I have been counting each packet as one carb. I wrote down and am following all of Dr. Atkins rules this time (except that pesky cream rule. I have to start paying attention to that better).
Storybookmama, that is an excellent idea. Star, if you try it, please let us know how it turns out. I may make it later, maybe for Christmas.

Anne, I am not sure what to think about this whole BF thing. I know it works and I'm glad we got the product before they decided to pull it. I hope Greer wins, you never know anymore. It seems like the world is upside down now days. I feel really bad for Sherry too.
Aleka, I heard on the HSN BB that the TS for SS on Sat night will be her new convection oven. I was really hoping it would be some kind of food product.
Also, I was looking around Walmart and the low carb bar that I tried that was so good is called Ross. It is better than a Hersey and would be great for cooking. They have it in plain, almond, white chocolate and something else. I would like to try them for cooking. They are small and expensive, but nothing like SS stuff. Better tasting I think too.

We're still getting those high gusty winds and they are to last all of today into tomorrow morning. Thankfully we didn't get any snow, just a few spits. It's snowing further north, but not too..too far from us. They are getting a lot of it too. It has gotten colder, it's about 27 deg. now.
nikki & ANNE, after reading your posts about BF I went into the BF support site. Oh, poor Sherry. How awful for her that someone did that to her. I do hope that she does sue. As with eating plans, there will be people who have great success with BF, like you ANNE, and there will be people that it doesn't work for.
nikki, I went into the HSN site and finally found Suzanne's new recipe contest cookbook. I too was planning on buying it. You get the cookbook w/a bookstand, which is $24.95, and the S & H is $9.95. :faint: :censored: Needless to say I will not be buying the book. I don't mind paying that for the book, but I refuse to pay almost $10.00 for S & H. I have had those Ross Chocolates before and love them. I bought them over the internet and got the variety pack. Off hand, I don't remember the name of the site. Maybe you could try www.rosschocolates.com
ANNE, sorry that your basement flooded again. It's an awful lot of work getting the water out. What if you put a sump pump in your basement to pump out the water? That same thing happened to my cousin and she put in a sump pump and she didn't have that problem anymore.
StorybookMama, thank you for your suggestion of putting Davinci syrup in for sweetener in making cranberry sauce. That's a fantastic idea, I never would have thought of it!
StarPrincess, the recipe I have for homemade cranberry sauce you make in a slow cooker. Were you able to get into Atkins site to find the recipe?

Good morning,
Even though our weather is kind of icky, it's not as bad as else where and I'm glad about that. I am looking forward to getting some snow, in a funny sort of way. I love it when it snows and then the sun comes out and shines on it. It's my favorite part of winter, looks like a Christmas card.
Aleka, I saw that about the s&h on the book and just about fell over. The s&h of all her stuff has always been ridiculous, but now it's getting to the point of just crazy. I went to her site and there was no book, went to Amazon and they didn't even say it was coming soon. I will be doing without it too. I have plenty of cookbooks anyway. There are only 60 recipes in her new book too.
I was looking at her website and her S&H is even higher than HSN's for her somersweet, 6.95 for 2 little cans. I love so many of her products, they are just too high. I must say, her fashion line is really not my style though. I wouldn't know where I'd wear any of that kind of stuff.
I think I'll just spend the day reading recipes from her books that I already have and forget watching her. I'm making the Grilled Chicken Salad for supper.
I found the Ross chocolates at Walmart, thanks for the link, I'll check it out. Walmart put in a new section next to the syrup with low carb products. They have low carb stuff scattered all over the store though.
Better get my self going, have a good day/weekend everyone, Nikki

nikki, I don't believe that the new cookbook will be on her site until after she's been on HSN, but don't know how long it will take. I don't like her fashions either, nor do I care much for a lot of her jewelry. Some of it I do like, but think it's overpriced no matter what any of the show hosts say. I do have a pair of CZ hugger earrings that I love and I also have a couple of bracelets that I get a lot of compliments on when I wear them. Personally, I prefer jewelry to be understated. I will be watching her tonight. DH has gone out of town for overnight and won't be back until sometime tomorrow. I have a hard time sleeping when he's not here, so watching Suzanne will be just the ticket for tonight. I had her on last night, but got so sleepy I put the timer on the TV and went to sleep. Hopefully that will hold true for tonight.
Have a good evening.

Happy Friday All:
Work was crazy today so I had to wait until I got home to post:)
Aleka, that is a great idea for our flooding we may well need to look at pump. Today my son and DH got up on the roof and found that the eaves trough was blocked with tons of leaves and debris. They were unable to clear it though because it was full of ice as well. In the next few days our temperatures are going to rise so they will go back up and clear the eaves trough.
I have been doing some of my Christmas Shopping on Line. I
bought my DH the new Stones DVD collection Four Flicks. He'll
love it:) A couple of the boys still love Nintendo games so I
ordered them through Amazon.
I bet you are both looking forward to Thanksgiving! Do you
splurge for the holiday? I have decided to eat what I want on
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. What the heck:lol:
I will do some baking this year but I will certainly make less
so I don't have to argue with the left overs:o
Have a great evening.
Anne.

Saturday....
It seems as though our winds have died down, but it's still rather nippy out. It's supposed to start getting warmer.
ANNE, when our laundry room flooded, we had a clogged outside drain. Our one and only neighbor came over to help DH find where the leak was coming from and they discovered the drain pipe and it was full of leaves. He also gave DH some sort of coating to put on the inside cement wall of the basement where the leak was coming from that he had to let dry. It seemed to have done the trick. I plan on eating what I want on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. DH & I love jalapeno poppers and mozzarella sticks, popcorn chicken, and fried shrimp, so we have those, then on Christmas morning we have sticky buns!! :T I don't think we'll be having a low carb Thanksgiving. DH says he wants mashed potatoes, and for me it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without butternut squash. I plan on making SS stuffing and we're going to deep fry our turkey.
nikki, I did manage to see a snippet of Suzanne last night. I did fall asleep before she came on, but woke up after midnight for some reason. Anyway, she was selling her cookbook, and I had to take a double take, the s&h was $6.95 and not $9.95 that was on HSN's website. I am going to watch her this afternoon, as she'll be SSizing just to make sure. I'm still not sure I want another cookbook. I haven't used any recipes in her first recipe contest cookbook. I don't know......I'm still thinking about it though.:chin:

Hi,
We had a nice evening last night, didn't have to go anywhere or do anything. DH is on vacation and is kind of bored. He will never be able to retire if he can't figure out what to do with himself. Probably go work at Walmart like all the other people we use to work with at the VA. Personally, I love not working and can find a million things to occupy myself with, although sometimes I do get tired of not making any money.
Aleka, I feel the same way about her jewelry. I can find a few things I like, but they are too expensive, plus I find that I usually wear the same things over and over anyway. I saw that about her cookbooks S&H last night and practically got up out of a sound sleep to come in and post that to you:lol: I didn't order it, they were talking about the recipes in the book and I have seen or have most of them. They didn't excite me much at all. If you've never had the grilled chicken salad from the first cookbook, you should try it. I made it last night and oh, it is so good. I don't use the liquid smoke in the dressing and sometimes, I have to leave out some of the vegetables as we don't always have them, but it's still great.
Anne, we've had problems for years with leaking in the basement. In the front of the house, it's the gutters that get full of leaves that cause that part to leak. Getting yours cleaned out will help a lot. In the back part of our house, we have a driveway that tips in towards the house and the water just sits there and then drains into the basement, so we will have to get a new driveway to fix that problem. A sump pump is a great idea, Aleka. We don't need one as our water just runs to the sewer and drains out mostly.
I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving, but DH has to work through it, so I'll have to be really quiet when I cook. I'll have everything I can think of done before hand and everything set out as far as pots and pans goes to try to keep it down. Our bedroom is right next to the kitchen, so it will be hard to be quiet enough for him to sleep. We will have a Thanksgiving supper. I'm think it will be just us and my oldest DD. The youngest DD is planning her own dinner.
I'm still going to low carb through the holidays, I think. I really don't care about potatoes, sweet potatoes or cranberries. The only thing I missed was the dressing and since I'm making the low carb version, that solves that problem. I'll make potatoes and regular dressing for whoever else is here though. I have thick and thin/not starch to make the gravy with, so everyone will be happy.
Aleka, your food sounds great. I really miss cinnamon buns.
We are going to a wedding reception tonight. I am going to try to behave myself, it will be hard this family makes great BBQ and they don't care about carbs.
Got to go exercise, have a great weekend, Nikki

nikki, I did buy the new cookbook. I went into HSN's website and noticed they changed the s&h. The only reason I bought it was last night she said that someone did some wonderful things with egg crepes. DH & I really do like the egg crepes and I thought it might be interesting to see what else, besides lasagna & using them in chicken noodle soup, you can do with them. I haven't tried the grilled chicken salad. Ya, I kinda like not going out to work, I do the books and the billing for our machine shop, but it gives me the freedom to come and go as I please. Have a wonderful time at the wedding reception tonight. That's funny you should post that you were going to wake out of a sound sleep to post the new S&H. I said to myself that I'd post it first thing in the morning, then thought maybe I'll post now, but didn't want to get out of a warm bed. :comp: Great minds do think alike!
Enjoy the rest of the day.

Aleka, they mentioned what the crepes were used for, but I cant remember now. Well, when you get it you'll have to let me know how you like it. Oh, I might order it myself before the day is over. I was just watching now and almost ordered the holiday spice package. Then I realized, nobody would like it, because it was different. Everyone is use to the same old, traditional (salt, pepper and sage for seasoning) turkey and dressing and you know how that is, I better not go messin' with a good thing.
I wanted to get the chocolate carmels, but will pass on those too. I have plenty of sweet stuff lined up and the kids will make some of their own that will be more than enough. I also wanted to get the convection oven and the grill so bad. Geez, I'm aweful. I'm going to go get on the gazelle again and watch something else.
I want everything:o

Good Morning All:
I will start a new thread for this week.
