As I read through other messages, I notice the sizes people are wearing and their current weights. I am 5'4". At my highest weight 194, I wore a size 18 jeans. Now 30lbs down, my 16s are loose, but 14s are still a bit tight. I see in some posts people in 16s at 200lbs. And some at my current weight in 9/10s? Do I just have the widest hips on earth or what??? I may get down to 120lbs and wear a 14??? So, my question is how tall are you, what is your current size and weight???

Because my belly is where I hold my weight I always am in bigger sizes than others my same height and weight. For example, a woman at work weighs the same as me and she is in an 18 while I am just getting into a 22. But I have yards of fabric in my pant legs just hanging - BECAUSE I need the waistline to button! She on the other hand carries her weight in her thighs and calves and her torso is actually flat and proportionate. I look like I'm about 7 months pregnant all the time :( and I hate when people ask me when my due date is. :lol:
I have also noticed that a people who workout with weights always are in the smaller sizes because that ratio of a lb of muscle is lean while a lb of fat is fluffy and takes up more room. My cousin goes to Curves and she has lost many inches but a small amount of lbs - yet she is down 2 sizes.
When I was successful at weight loss in the past - I remember getting down into the 150's and I was still in a 16. But then I really began adding weights to my aerobic training and I lost 10 stubborn lbs. (in about 6 months) BUT I dropped into a size 9/10 with just that 10 lb loss.
The key is to make our bodies lean to someday wear that size 8!!!!! :D

I know what you mean, When I weighed 160 lbs (only 10 lbs from my goal weight) I wore a size 14 :eek: and thats because of my big belly. I doubt I'll ever see a 12 and thats where I would like to be, well actually I'll settle for a 14 ;)
From 170 lbs to 210 lbs I wear a size 16, I am now in a size 18 and I am more than 210 lbs. I am 5'10" tall.
Its just different body shapes thats all.

I am 5'3" and currently weigh 186 (from high of over 220). I was starting to wear very large sizes (like 20-22). I too am disproportionate, my legs/hips actually not too big, but have a tummy and large waistline - so if pants fit waist they are hanging on my bum and thighs. VERY DIFFICULT to find pants that look good, and I try to find petite cuts so the crotch part does not hang down to my knees. :)
I just fit into a 14 petite pair of black pants the other day..but they are cotton spandex so have some stretch and a comfort waistband (elastic on the inside/cotton on the outside) and this makes it go around my thick waist.
I am larger on top and well endowed so I have trouble with buttons unless large size...currently sticking to t's and mock necks and sweaters. But I have noticed sweaters now too baggy (gave them away)...and some of my silk shirts may soon fit (they are size 18 or XL). I have bought some new t's in size L - they fit but are very tight so I will wait til they fit properly.
I can't imagine wearing a 12 or 10? Will that every happen when I reach my goal of 145?

Thanks for bringing this up, Barb! I was very curious about it, too. Currently, I'm at about 185 and I'm 5'10", and I wear a size 16. I'm trying to squeeze into a size 14, and I can get into them, but they aren't pretty... At my lowest weight, 155, I wore a size 10. I'm hoping this time to possibly get into a size 8. I need to start weight training!! My weight is spread fairly evenly over my body -- maybe a little more concentrated in my hips/thighs/butt. My main trouble is finding pants that are long enough!

Even though I know I sound like a fool for gaining all my weight back, YOU ALL CAN be in a size 8 someday! No matter if you EVER were a size 8 on the way up the charts. I really want to encourage everyone to add those weights a few days a week. There is another thread here called "Women and Men who Lift" - or something like that. Check out Meg! She is amazing!!!!
In junior high I went from girls size 14 right up to a size 10 in juniors. But in '92 when I lost my weight, I was amazed to see just how small my frame really is under all this cushiony stuff. I REALLY needed to work on my abdomen - which I need to do again - but Jane Fonda's Lower Body workout did WONDERS for me. Oh I LOVED wearing a size 8 the summer of '92.
- THAT fall (1992) dh and I went to Niagara Falls to celebrate our 5th anniversary and I fell - ruining my right ankle! That was the beginning of my downfall. I could not even stand on my ankle for weeks - and therefore had to give up my nightly 2 hours of exercise (7 days a week). That took a huge emotional toll on me and the weight just started creeping back. :( :( :(

Ok, I'll answer this, but I don't want any flack from anyone! Especially after my hate mail yesterday. :(
I'm 5'3" and am currently in between a 9 and a 7. The nines tend to be a bit loose and the sevens are tight. I'm very aware that it's unusual for someone my height and weight to wear those sizes. I attribute it to bone density - I have medium/large bones and they are very dense. If I were nothing but a skeleton, I'd still weigh more. I personally avoid weight lifting. I tend to look a little bulky anyway and I don't want to increase that. I practice pilates instead, which is doing great things for giving my longer, leaner looking muscles. :D

I'm 5'7" and currently weigh 172. My 16s are loose but 14 in pants are a little fitted. They zip easily but panty lines are very visible. Gotta lose more weight and pull out the thongs. At high of 205 I was wearing some 16W that were generously cut but mostly 18, 18W and 1X. My bones are not very dense so I know I'm just fat.
I got down to a 9/10 my senior year and weighed 136. Walking was my only exercise. In 1995 I got down to a 10 but weighed 145. I was pretty muscular this go around as I worked in building material/millwork dept at Lowe's home center. I had to do everything I asked the men to do, including lifting sheetrock, concrete, lumber, doors and the like on a daily basis.
I thought I had big bones until I reached the size 10. That revealed that I was smalled boned. When I do the fingers around smallest part of wrist test, I'm small/medium boned.
I would love to be smaller than a 10.

Supersized, tell me about the wrist test. I did one that had me measure my wrist and then told me what my bone size was based on my height and that measurement. Maybe it was wrong?

I am 5'3" tall. When I weighed 160 pounds I was between a size 10 and 12. I was in good physical shape and exercised, though not any resistance training.
Now that I am more than 100 pounds heavier I sort of stop and say "just HOW did this happen?" as I put on my size 2x pants and 3x tops (also a little too well-endowed).
I'm looking forward to wearing size 12 again and have a goal of a size 10. Although after being pregnant, I AM a different shape than I used to be and carry a LOT more of my weight in my tummy area. It's like I got all stretched out and then had trouble stretching back in.
Oh, and the reason I was having surgery also hinders me from wearing smaller pants. That lump in my abdomen really sticks out from time to time. Stupid thing....
I need to exercise or it will never come off....

5'4" current weight 143 I wear about a 8 or 10 pant (depends on brand) I have big arms and boobs though so large top 11-13, unless it's stretch I can get away with a 9-10. Seven years ago was a size 2 weighed 113 , but everyone said I was way too skinny, to me it was cool cause after 3 kids I finally had a flat tummy. I certainly don't think I'll ever be that small again. I think the loss then was severe stress and then a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. I'm shooting for 130 pounds and a size 6.Gotta be realistic I'm certainly not shooting for hollywood skinny. :nono:

5'5 and weigh 166 currently. I am still in 14's but they are starting to get a little loose. I still can't get into a 12:mad:
I tend to have a stomach also and I know that is what keeps me from getting into smaller sizes. At my lowest I will only get into a size 10.
I know part of my issue is genetics because my brothers are all very big.....tall and big boned I mean..........only one is heavy....extremely. I wish he would lose the weight for his health. I worry about him.
My point is that I will never be a stick figure...not with my family genes!
So I will have to be content just looking trimmer. That is my real goal, not the number.

SP, circle your thumb and middle finger around the smallest part of wrist of other hand. If the thumb and middle finger don't meet, you are big boned. If they just meet, you are medium boned. If they overlap, you are small boned. Mine barely starts to overlap. I'll try to find where I got the info on the web.

Im 5'4" and currently weigh 175. I could get into a size 12 but I am waiting. My 14's are very loose! I am now starting to wear L tops, as even being well endowed (40 D) the XL are too big!
at my highest weight, I was 225, and wore 18s and 1X. When in Highschool and 160, I could wear 10s!
I am hoping for 125-130 and a size 6-8!! :) Petite! :) I do have small bones... which is very strange for my family of tall big boned Italians.. but then again.. I am the shortest in my family by 6 inches to the next person.. AND have fair skin and blue eyes... everyone else is olive and brown eyed. We have NO Idea where I come from! LOL!

Woohoo! According the the "wrist test" I really am big-boned.
As far as sizes go. I have the large belly, teeny thighs and hips type of body too. Right now (at 205-6, 5'6") I'm wearing a pair of size 16 Lee S-T-R-E-T-C-H jeans. Depending on the brand, I'm mostly in 18s for "regular" jeans. Some of the cheaper 18s still don't fit, though. Size 18 Lee or Levi jeans are perfect around the middle. It's amazing how different all our bodies are.

I'm still in X-Large tops. I'm still wearing a 40DD. I tried on a 38D hoping and wishing it would fit. Nope, nope, nope. It was too tight and I was spilling out. Maybe in another 20 pounds or so I'll go bra shopping again.

I am 5'8" and now weigh in at 225. I am wearing size 18 pants with elastic waist. I too have the "apple" shape and when I get regular button/zip pants to fit the middle they totally bag in hips and legs making me look really huge, so I stick with the elastic waist. Since I am top heavy I wear mostly 22/24 tops or 2X. I'm in a 42C bra. Nothing like fessing up!:(
I was at 180 a few years ago and was wearing 14 jeans with a regular waist. I still was large to extra large on top.
When I do the wrist test I seem to be medium boned.

I'm 5' 8'' current weight is 229, and I wear a size 16 Lee jeans (and tight). I think I've lost almost an inch in height though throughout 4 surgeries with 3 being spinal fusions. I'm not ready to give up that inch until I know for sure and also lose a little more. LOL After losing 6 pounds this week, my jeans are still tight, but much looser. I'd say I'm evenly fat all over with a smaller rear, and I have a medium frame, but can squish my tummy above my jeans. LOL I'm always endowed regardless of how thin or fat I am. I've been down to 128 lbs 13 years ago, but my doctor told me I was too thin. Too fat, too thin...now too fat again. LOL I want to be thin again. I mean I AM going to be thin again. I have to think positive.

I am 5'2 and weigh 212. I am currently wearing size 18/20 pants and tops. I am a nurse so I am excited that in scrubs I am wearing a XL! was wearing a 3X when I was 251 and some of those were tight around the stomach and hips. biggest size in pants were 26/28. I still pretty much have the same body shape..need to exercise and tone up more. tried pilates..a DVD by Denise Austin that is supposed to be for everyone...i guess it might become easier the more I do it. I did go down in bra size as far as the width but cup size still the same...if not bigger...more skin I guess I dont know...was wearing a 42D and the other day i had to buy a 38DD but I actually got fitted for this one so who knows i might have always been buying the wrong size! no wonder those things were saggin! lol...

Wow! I am completely amazed at how different our bodies our with the same general specs. You know you see someone says they are 5'4 and 192lbs and you are too and you think you must be really similar but based on all the stories above nothing could be more wrong.
I'm 5' 4 and 192lbs I currently wear a 20petite. Before I had the baby I may have been the same weight but had a flat tummy, ever since the baby I have the added pooch. I have what I would consider a "goddess" shape body. It's like those figurines of the earth goddess, big boobs, smaller waist, big hips, thighs and butt. It all shrinks proportionately as I lose weight and I am perfectly happy in a size 10. Maybe I say that because I just don't remember anything else. Honestly I don't even remember a 10. But I'm gonna get there!!!!!!
Boobs are currently a 40D and normally a 36C maybe less someday hopefully. Sighhh...:)

I too am really amazed at the differences in body types and it makes me sad to a point. Society teaches our children that in order to be accepted and well liked, you must be rail thin and a size 0. I'm coming to terms with the fallacy in that concept reading about each and every one of you. I am so happy that we are all diverse, it certainly makes me appreciate my body and it's differences. I don't want to be just like everyone else!!! :D
At my highest weight (220) I was comfortably in a size 20. I could wear 18's, but I was ever so quickly spilling out of them. I currently weigh 184 and am in a size 14. There are a few pairs of 13 I can get into, but can't imagine leaving my house and walking around the free world in them. I can remember being in high school, weighing 135 and being a wonderful size 5. I used to think I was hugely fat back then, boy was I ever wrong! ;) I have an odd body type, very large boobs, little waist, and large hips, so finding pants that fit me is a challenge. Normally to get them to fit my hips, the waist is just huge. I have the same problem with the butt and legs, baggy. Luckily, stretch jeans have been invented, which help cling to the waist and butt challenged. ;)
I also unfortunately inherited my grandmother's small bone structure. I carry a pic in my wallet of my grandmother after having 4 children. My grandfather is grasping her waist, thumb to thumb, finger to finger, with no effort at all. I know under all this unsightly fat is a girl that little. *sigh* (I don't ever wanna be THAT small, but it's nice to know I could be!)
Luckily, a good percentage of my weight loss has indeed been in my boobs. I was really disappointed at first, in fact I think I cried unhappy tears when I realized my bra was indeed MUCH too big. I went from a 40FF and currently am an ever shrinking 36 DDD. We'll see where it goes. I really hope I don't lose too much more! What would I have to offer then? :) hehehe

I'm 5'11" and a quarter :lol and I'm still in a 20 at 215 pounds. I was 138 pounds in school and wore an 11 maybe that was because the clothes were cheap and not a name brand or they may have been a size 9, come to think of it I think I did buy a size 8 or 9 from the Gap once. Maybe the 11 was Chic brand. lol
anyway, my goal is to get down to 200 by xmas and then my new new years resolution will be to hit 180. I'm in a 14 at that.
BUt I have the smae problem as super above, bigger hips and boobs very small waist. SO to buy jeans that fit the butt but they stick out about 5 inches around the waist. To find jeans that fit they come too big in the legs which make me look even bigger in pictures which is why you won't see me on here in them. I like the way strech jeans fell but not look on me yet, can't decide if they do anything flattering on me.

Wow, it is so interesting to see women the same height as me, with similar weights, in very different sizes! Bodies are fun, aren't they?
I'm 5'8", 195 pounds, and wearing a 20 top and 18 bottom. At my heaviest ever, 209, I was wearing a 22 top/20 bottom I think.
When I got down to 157 in July 2001, I was wearing an 8. It was AWESOME! The part I loved the most was that I walked in the July 4th parade in a sleeveless sundress and MY THIGHS DID NOT RUB TOGETHER. Yes! I loathe the dreaded "shorts creep" when your shorts bunch in between chubby thighs, and every few steps, you have to do this weird Monty Python Funny Walk huuuuge step to un-bunch them.
My body is 43 - 35 - 48 right now. I have giant thighs ;) My thighs at their widest are 28", two inches bigger than I remember my waist being in college! Egads! (I used to be 38 - 26 - 40 in college, back in 1989-1993, 36C bra, size 12 top, 10 bottom.) I wear a 40D bra. Thank God I lose weight from my thighs as well as the rest of my body when I lose... otherwise I'd have serious thunder thighs underneath a skinny upper body!
My goal is 140. I'm hoping to be a size 6, maybe even a 4. I've mostly always been a 12, sometimes a 10, until after college anyway, after which I walked much less and ate a lot more. But I think it would be nice, if only for a while, to be "tiny". I would not be sad if I lived as a 10 either...
Oh yeah, the frame-size tool says I am a small frame, and my ideal weight would be 144-158 pounds. We'll see!

Hi! I felt I needed to add...
I'm 5' 3/4" but in my opinion 5'1" sounds good! My weight is 145lbs. and I wear a size 6 or 8 depending on the brand. I also fit comfortably in a size 10. ( I have one of each that I wear every week!)Back in high school, I used to wear a size 3.(and weighed only a horrible 105lbs.) I can't even imagine wearing that size now! After having kids, I've expanded!
And then you get into these "low waist". "at the waist". "just below the waist" jeans....you're going to find they all fit differently. I love the "just below the waist"... I finally feel like I have my circulation back without exposing to much butt!!
Whatever brand your wearing... as long as they are all shrinking... then it's all good-- no matter what the size.
I don't think you should ever judge yourself with someone else's weight and heighth that's the same as your own. We all have bodies that may have different bumps and rolls :D that the other person doesn't. The only thing you want to compare yourself with is your old jeans! We're all like snowflakes,,, not one of us is the same!!

i am truly amazed at how differently we are shaped. i'm 5'9" and currently 184. i can wear 14 to 20 depending on how it is made. a large top fits just right, but puts too much emphasis on my bust (40DDD). so, i'm wearing xl. right now i'm 46-38-43. according to the wrist test, i am large boned. so the tool listed above puts my target range at 170 to 187. for medium boned, my range would be 160 to 176. this is the best news i've had in ages. i'll still shoot for 145 though. i don't want to get pregnant at any more than 160, but 145 would be ideal. keep posting your pics. i just love matching names and faces. all of you look great. it is evident that we are all progressing. keep up the great work and have a great weekend!

I'm wearing a large shirt today that I haven't worn in forever. YIPPEE!!! I'm also wearing a sweater that I used to tug on to try to make the buttons get close to the holes. I realized today that I can overlap it by about four inches. :D :D

Way to go supersized! I know how you feel! It was freezing cold today and I was looking for a sweater to wear to work - found one in back of drawer that I had not worn in years - tried it on wondering how TIGHT it would still be...and it wasn't! ...actually fit great!....so I wore it! Isn't that a more delicious feeling than any food?
