GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our
MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there's 2 of them to read today, both really wonderful ones that hold a lot of meaning:)

WHEN YOU FALL

When you fall, get back up. It may sound so simple as to be obvious, yet far too often it doesn't happen. When you've strayed from the path, work your way back to it. It is not too late and it is always your best option.

Remember why you started the effort in the first place. Remember what is truly important in your life, and why you're doing what you have chosen to do.

Being a victim has no real future, and helps no one. So do what it takes to get back up and get moving forward again. Sure, it is painful to fail. And the best thing you can do is to get beyond that pain as quickly as possible.

When you fall, get back up, quickly, with renewed determination, as often as it takes. And you will end up going exactly where you choose to go.

-- Ralph Marston

*******************

DECIDE THAT YOU WILL

Though you're not yet sure exactly how you'll finish, go ahead and get started. Even the smallest amount of progress can motivate you to keep going. The big achievements begin with small achievements. And the small achievements come from making the initial effort.

No matter where you intend to go, there is always a first step to be taken. Take that first step now.

Nothing can equal the sense of accomplishment that comes from getting results. Though it's great to have faith that you can do it, it's even better when you know from your own experience.

Action is what will transform your faith, your hopes, your best intentions into real and undeniable results. And now is the time to act.

Take that first step, keep on going and don't look back. You can do it, when you decide that you will.

Hi folks

As I didn't get on here on the weekend I thought I would try and be the first one on Monday morning. I had another busy week but did do a bit better with my eating. Not 100% op but better than the last few weeks and I have managed to lose one of the pounds I had gained. As much as I like the job I am doing I will be glad when I can spend more time at home and be able to prepare some decent meals. This weekend I did o.k. Yesterday morning I had whole wheat pancakes with leftover cranberry sauce. For lunch I had home made lentil soup and for dinner I made a hamburger and cabbage casserole which I had with broccoli. I have enough left over for dinner tonite. I haven't had too much exercise lately although I did manage to get in a couple of evenings of badminton last week - the first in more than a month. I did a bit of gardening yesterday morning. Had about 50 daffodil bulbs to plant. I hope the sqirrels don't go and dig them up again. They ruined one of the plants that I had on my front porch during the summer. I wondered why it had died on me until I saw one of the little critters in the pot digging.

I see that boobs has been a big subject here for a couple of days. If anyone has any to spare you can send some over here. The only good thing about my gaining weight was that I gained quite a bit on the boobs. Now I've lost some they are disappearing again. I guess we are never happy with what we've got.

Bob - I liked The Italian Job - very entertaining.

Fillise - Sorry to hear that you have not been feeling so good. Hope you get better soon. I think we should all be able to have a treat once in a while without feeling guilty as long as we stay op most of the time.

Monet - I took piano lessons for the first time when I was in my 40's. It was something that I was always interested in but never had the opportunity to do when I was a kid. I still like to play once in a while - just to entertain myself though. Not good enough to play in public. :) We used to have an old Steinway that we acquired from a friend and had it fixed up. But it was so big and such an eye sore that we eventually got rid of it. I then bought a Yamaha electronic piano. It has quite a good sound and the good thing about it is that you can use head phones if you don't want to disturb anyone else in the household while you are practising.

Deb - Hope you had a better night sleeping last night. Sounds like you've had too many sleepless nights lately. I guess I know what Michael will be getting for Christmas (or Hannukah). :).

Sorry I can't get to you all. I've just been skimming the posts lately.

Have a good week everyone.

Marie.

A quick good morning while I wait for Laura to be ready to go to school. I am giving her a ride this morning.

I am going to have blood drawn for lab work this morning. I am a bit early, like maybe a week, but it is convenient, so I am doing it today. My co-worker, Wild Rose Pixie, who is doing SB is riding up with me to get her bloodwork done too. She has lost 38 pounds now...it will be two months next week. She is doing so well! Of course I am a bit jealous, but I am very happy for her! :)

The weather seems to be staying on the cool side now. Its gotten cold enough that Tom has decided to close the pool... :( I always think it is sad when that time comes. I do like cool weather, and all, and the holidays, but it there is so much work to be done! I guess I am lazy at heart! ;)

ROSALIE: An electric piano sounds like an idea! I have seen some and they look just like regular pianos, right? I may have to take lessons- thanks for the encouragement! It sure is good to see you back!

Everyone, have a great week!

Gosh Debilli's motivational could sure be used in my life! Don't know why but I can't seem to get back on board and stay. My body and I are at war. And I seem to get farther and farther away from eating right. Which I know is wrong. But I keep trying to come back and read the posts in hopes that I can find my way. I'm trying to get good and mad at myself so I'll pop out of this. Anyway just wanted to check back in and say howdy to all and I miss you guys......

Good Monday Morning, I think.

The cold has come on full force. I pretty muuch feel like crap. But life goes on and so do I.

Did get some cold pills and they seem to help. At least I'm not blowing my nose every other minute. This to will pass.

Weekend was a blur. I had to clean the house Sat. Took me all day. Hit the couch about 8:00 and stayed there. Yesterday we cleaned the garage, washed the cars and some windows.

Eating has been horrible. But the scale was kind to me this morning. I was shocked. Back on track today, except that food just does not sound good. Choked down a piece of toast for breakfast. Brought a pot pie for lunch. What do you eat that is legal when you have a cold?

Fruit, thanks for posting the pics. Couldn't you have touched them up a bit? I look very old. Stomach is poochy. Glad Terry gave in. I guess it was Ashley and me that convinced him huh?

Fillise, hope your cold is getting better. Surely they don't last too long.

Deb, I got my hair cut right before we went to N.O. Top is pretty much the same, but layered the back and sides shorter. I do better with short hair. But not too short.

Chris, Bucs had a bad game yesterday. Condolences.

Bob, glad Skeeter is home to comfort you. I've been thinking about you. Hoping you are doing ok.

It's anew week and a new start if you need it. Take advantage.

Got to get busy here. Be back later.

Jackie

Oops, forgot to paste my replies in.........

Rosalie, good to see you back. It is tough when work keeps you so busy. It really helps to have time to prepare the right foods. Hope things slow down for you soon.

Monet, Give my congrats to your co-worked on her great loss. I'm sure you have been a big part in it. Good luck with the lab work.

Toni, Good to see you back. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can find your way. Staying on here, good or bad really helps. Hope you figure it out. We miss you.

Good morning to everyone. Had a busy weekend, taking grandma to the CHER concert. Worth every minute of the misery of the traffic and parking. I am just sick to death of sitting in my car. It took us 2 hours to get out of the parking lot at the arena, and over an hour to get there (in Mississippi). We stayed in a hotel near by. It was disastrous. But Meme(my GM), had a great time so it was worth it. It was the same performance that was televised, so it was even more fabulous in person. My eating was so-so this weekend, with me going totally crazy at a buffet yesterday. The good news is that it was my only meal for the day, the bad news is that I looked like someone who had not seen food in a while..anyway, today is a new day!!!

Missy- I am so glad Terry caved in and is letting you host the SB get together. I will definitely be there!!! Hope you are feeling better. Thanks for posting the pics. Terry didn't look that miserable when we were together, maybe he was just playing up the drama for the cameras!!!!

JackK- Hey!! How was the football game? Did Tulane win? I am so out of the loop this morning. Glad the scale was kind to you. Sorry to hear that you have a cold. Get better soon!!!

Fillise- Sorry to hear you are not feeling well either. A lot of sniffles and such going around on the board. Feel better soon.

Monet- Good luck at the lab!!!!

Hello to everyone. I will check in later. Gotta run-Ashley

Good Morning:wave:

Well, I had this nice post going and then the computer shut down on me! So, I'm just going to get right back on with the replies I had started on before I find myself out of time. Will say that I did spend an hour in the water this morning:D

ROSALIE, glad to see your post, really do miss you!!!:D Glad to hear you're doing well. Okay, I'm ready to send you some boob I don't want - no, I don't mean ELI either! I think you'd have lots of people ready to send you some excess boobage!!! MICHAEL, hmmm, not sure what's going to be for him for the holidays but I can tell you most definitely, it sure won't be a car!!!! One good thing I have to say about the holidays this year, Hanukah is falls during Xmas!!!!:spin: How's the weather up that way?

MONET, when I started the post that I lost I had mentioned about the pool and how, as it gets cooler here (whenever that may be) I'll have to wait til the afternoon for the water to warm up, or if it's really during our so-called winter, will have to focus more on my walking. It took me a bit of time to ease in to the water today. Hope all the blood work comes out okay. PIXIE is doing awesome!

TONI, it's hard to get back in to the swing of it sometimes. It may take me weeks to get my head screwed back on straight when I stray. Try to take each day hour by hour. When you are having a tough time and THINK you need a fix do something else to get your mind off of it, it works, though I don't heed my own advice often enough. You'll get back in to the swing of it, don't worry. Come on the board as much as you can, it does help!!! I think it's 1/3 cup of dry oatmeal, if I remember correctly.

JACKK, sorry to hear you have a full blown cold, hope it doesn't stay too long. I think soups are the best when you are sick, they are easy to get down, help because of the heat and if you get some chicken soup, well, that's great Jewish penicillin and should help your cold AND your tummy:D I think I look better with shorter hair too, but not above my shoulders. When you have curly hair, having it too short, you can't do ANYTHING with it at all.

JACKIE, sounds like you and your GM had a wonderful time. I'm sure it's something she'll think about for a long time and she'll treasure that she spent this time with you. I love it when singers have such a vast area of different aged fans. I'm not a huge Cher fan but I think going to one of her concerts would be fun. THe last concert I went to was with LAUREN and it was NSYNC and we were in the brain dead section and I hated it. All I heard was screaming! I should of taken my ear plugs with me. Thought about taking MICHAEL to see Simon and Garfunkel but the tickets are a bit too pricey, another beef I have with concerts!!

Okay, I'm hugry, so I'm headed for the kitchen. Will check in later!

Have a wonderful week!

Debbie

newbie to SB and introduction

Hi. I am a newbie to SB, however not to dieting etc. I have been on atkins and had lost 60 lbs. Put on about 10 mostly due to boredom and restrictions of carbs. I don't mind Atkins except that I do miss those carb side dishes--rice, pasta, pot. etc.

Anyway, I started researching and think SB may be more what I am looking for. I don't mind brown rice, whole wheat pastas, sweet pot. etc. and think they would def. add a nice variety to my way of eating.

I am getting the book the new book this afternoon and will begin reading the book. I have to say from I am excited that I will be able to have cereal and milk. What kind of cereals are acceptable and what kind of milks?? Are any sugar free type foods acceptable in moderation---SF pudding cups etc.

I am sure these will be answered soon by reading the book, but I am at work and can't leave to get it so I am a little anxious!!!

Do some of you eat smaller meals throughout the day? If so, what do you suggest for the smaller meals that could be taken to work? (NO Prep work)

Thanks for your help!!!!

Good Monday morning all:

I was at 122.5# this morning; even hit 121.5 over the weekend. See, that is where I tend to be different from a lot of people....I am not a stress eater. I tend to stop eating when I get stressed out and worried. I don't think about eating; it is the farthest thing from my mind. I don't turn to food for comfort. I tend to eat more when I am happy and things are going well....go figure. I see the ENT today at 3:30 p.m., so hopefully we will be a bit closer to some sort of answer. Thank you all for your continued prayers; I truly believe in the power of prayers!! I'm not sure if I will be able to get back on here today since my appt. is so late and far from home. I will have to get home and get dinner on the table and then kids bathed and to bed.

I actually jumped on Amazon over the weekend and bought a few Christmas presents. They have free shipping on most of their toys.

It looks like we will be breaking many records this week. 23 cities in the state of Arizona broke records for high temperatures yesterday. We are supposed to get to 104 degrees on Tuesday; there has never been a day this late in October to be over 100 degrees (that has ever been recorded). I am so ready for this heat to break.

Anyway....I hope you all have a great OP day.

BOB: So glad Skeeter is back home where he belongs!!

Emma: Good idea on losing wt. prior to a BR; otherwise, you just lose the weight in them and get that saggy skin. It is better to be at more of an ideal weight. I was at 138# when I had it done, and didn't think I'd lose anymore than 8 more pounds. Well, here I am 15 pounds later....but they still are in pretty good shape; just a little smaller than after the original reduction (my bras pucker a bit now). Way to go on the Christmas shopping. Other than some stuff I ordered at abc distributing and at Amazon over the weekend, I have done nothing.

heart: I hope you will be reporting in the 170's on Wed. I love the Daisy Collection at abc; your dd's room will look lovely. I really wish their shipping wasn't so high. It seems that any money you save on the product, you end up paying in shipping costs. Thanks for the prayers and putting a prayer request in at church. If you have any suspicious spots...have them checked out right away. See if a doctor could set up a payment plan for you, or pay it on credit and pay it off. You are precious to your family and need to take care of yourself. My cousin had a melanoma and nearly lost half of her breast having it dug out.

fruit: Thanks for the pictures; it is so nice to see you lovely ladies. I'm sure you will see those 2# go quickly.

Deb: That's a bummer that your HFS is disc. those pot pies. I guess you will have to order them in bulk. I'll eventually tell DH about you all. He thinks is is absurd to get online with a bunch of strangers and reveal all your personal "stuff." When did you have the lump in your head removed? Where on your head was it? Did the doctors ever know what caused it? Have a happy day!

Grant: Hope you get some relief soon!

jecrites: I hope your shoulder is feeling better today. I would be very upset at the school for no call; I don't care if it is long distance or not. I'd bring it up at the next conference you have and let them know you were not happy about it!

Fillise: I loved your post on Sunday and totally and completely agree with you, but not sure if I would have when I was in the process of losing. I was so strict and so determined that I really did deprive myself of much, but felt it was worth it. Now that I have met and maintained my goal, I definately give myself more freedom. I will always allow myself to have "forbidden" foods on occasion (special occasions & such). Life is too short, and I don't want to feel deprived, but for the most part, I don't feel deprived. I will always have to remember moderation and not get carried away. I think that is the key to success when it comes to weight loss and management.

Rosalie: Hello stranger; glad all is going well and you are doing well with your eating.

Toni: Hope you get everything worked out and get back on track. I believe most dry oatmeal portions are 3/4 cup.

Kim: Welcome. I too did Atkins, and am much happier on SB. Skim or 1% milk is best, and there are a few cereals you can have. I eat Shredded Wheat and Cheerios (in Yellow Box). You want to make sure sugar grams are under 3 per serving. SF foods, in moderation, are fine. Good ideas for snacks are Blue Bunny SF yogurt, Lite cheese sticks, veggies and fruits, nuts (almonds), wheat thins with lite laughing cow cheese. There is a great recipe on here for Zucchini loaf cake. I make that and cut it up into individual portion sizes for snacks. We look forward to getting to know you better!

There is my novel for the day. If I don't get back on today, I will probably be on tomorrow a.m.

Take care,
Nat

Hey guys, good morning!! Glad to see everyone had a good weekend. I had a pretty good one myself...until that horrible football game yesterday! At least the Yankees won (sorry Deb).
Ok, for those of you that saw my post last week about that quick chocolate cheesecake...heres the deal. My sister made it saturday night and used 1% milk instead of heavy cream. I tried it and it was great! Soooo those that dont want to make it because of the heavy cream...then use 1% its just as god! :) Theres my tip of the day! ;)

JACKIEO- So glad you liked the concert! Whats not to like, right?

PANCHO - I will be praying for you...good luck at your appt. today!
Im not a big fan of Leanne's either, shes way to whiny! :)

JACKIE - Hope you feel better soon! Yes the game was horrible, but the way they played they deserved to lose!

BOB - Ohhhhh what can I possibly say about that thing they called a game yesterday! I have never seen our defense play that bad! But, they have so many injuries, how could they win? Just trying to justify a little :s: .
My sister just watched The Italian Job last night, she loved it too!
Glad Sketter is back home with you!

FRUIT - Great pics...thanks for posting.

DEB - All I can say is OMG you have no idea how good that cheesecake was. Everyone was drooling over it. The chocolate made it. I forgot to send my address...I will do that as soon as I am done with this post. yes, I would of done much better without Dominic Saturday, he was being such a pain in the a**....ripping bottles off the shelf. thats what I get for not putting him in his stroller.

Well guys, have a great day! We are going to Sea World tomorrow...so I will be back on Wed. Dominics first time there.. He is so excited to see Shampoo (thats what he calls shamu!)

Hello everyone.

I read the posts from yesterday that I didn't get to respond to, but honestly I can't remember what all was said.

I think the problem with my shoulder is that I just slept on it wrong. Hubby has started taking over the bed:s: It feels a little better today, at least I can move my head now. It's actually moved to almost right under my neck and has that "sore" feeling you sometimes get from sleeping wrong.

Got to go pick up some meds today, but dang it if hubby didn't take my car and I can't get hold of him. Every time I call up there no one is in the office.

Not much happened here over the weekend, didn't feel like doing anything at all.

Well I'm gonna go, and hopefully catch someone at the office to tell that man I need my car. Talk to y'all later.

Just a quick hello here. Sorry I have not been posting.

Still trying to get DD moved out of here & into her own place. Have enjoyed having the baby here, but it's been a month & 1/2 & I'm ready to get my house back! They are hooking up the electricity today & we will be calling the electric co. to hook up then they can start moving.

I'm still maintaining at 150, but that is still 15 lbs above my goal wt. I lack the discipline I need to get it back down. My clothes are getting too tight & I don't like it a bit. I'm hoping that after the kids move out I will be able to buckle back down to getting it under control.

Got to go. A busy day ahead. Sorry I am unable to post any replies, but I haven't read the posts & no time to do that today. Hope all is well with everyone.

Ok maybe if I start fresh on a Monday I can keep up!
My computer hard drive crashed (dang Maxtor crud) and I've spent 3 days installing all my software and getting the links and e-mails and whatnot all set up. What a pain! I will religiously back up my info once a week from now on!!
Still hanging in at 203. Not getting any exercise I guess.

Kbp (Kim)
Welcome to the board!
Congratulations on your weight loss and for realizing you need to find another WOE before putting it back on again!
Everyone who I've run across who's done Adkins seems to put back so much weight. I met a guy who did it for his wedding, he lost 85 pounds! I said" And how much have you gained back?" he said "40".
That would make me feel like crud to lose all that and gain it back quick.
I won't even attempt Adkins because I KNOW I will not live without bread.
Anyway, I snack on nuts, cheese an Trisects.
I found an awesome no sugar added cheesecake at the health food store, will post the name when I buy it again.

Hey, guys! How was everyone's weekend? Mine was good. My eating was good Fri and Sat, BUT Sun I went hog-wild! We had the barbecue at church after service, there wasn't a legal food on the table! I ate a plate of pig, a roll, beans, coleslaw, and potato salad. THEN I had 2 desserts. Doesn't stop there guys. Went to a baby shower and had 2 glasses of punch(you know, the kind w/ice cream), a piece of heavily iced cake, 2 crackers, and 2 mexican fried thingys. WHOOH-I told you guys when I have one meal off plan, I give myself the green light on all bad foods. I did manage to stop myself from doing anymore damage after that. I didn't eat anything else the rest of the day(like I needed anymore). Anyway, I still feel good. I think it's the exercise. I did my 3 mile tape and for the first time, I felt I could have done MORE! Right now, I'm hovering between 179-180. Still up a pound or 2, surprised not more after yesterday. I got so many comments about my weight loss over the weekend. Even from people I just saw about 3 weeks ago. I don't weigh any less-just the opposite. So it must be the exercising. At the shower, I was getting a piece of cake and commenting out loud that I didn't need it(didn't stop me though:lol: ) when the lady next to me said "Girl, go ahead and have it, you got the body and looks." I was floored with shock! Me? Have the body(yea right, I got it-cellulite and all)?? All I gotta say, is that I have to dress up more often:lol: Not much going on today. Monday is usually my "cleaning" day. Lots of laundry, etc. I'm back on track with my eating today, but like always after I binge, I eat too many starches the next day while trying to get back into Sb mode. I've eaten 4 starches today! But there won't be anymore. I'm making spaghetti and salad for supper. I'll skip the pasta. Tomorrow, I have my exercise class that I'm looking forward to. Geez, I NEVER thought I would feel that way about exercising. I got the exercise packed down, just gotta work on the food part. I totally agree with what SUSAN said about eating off plan. Food is so controlling for me. I'm truly addicted. I think about eating all the time-even have dreamed about food. Something's wrong with that picture. It's such an inner struggle. Okay, I've rambled on long enough..

Checking back in.

This day is almost over. Glad of it. Now home to fix dinner, and whatever. It is such a bveautiful day here, almost 80, I hope to walk some. Don't know about the wts, I feel very weak and don't know how much I can do. Need to run to the store, I have bunco at my house this week and need to get started on the food.

Ashley, glad you enjoyed the Cher concert. I bet your GM appreciated all the trouble you went through. Those times are precious. cherish them. Tulane came within 14 at the end. It was a blow out for awhile. But they made a comback and made it respectable. It was cold though and didn't help my cold any. Isn't it funny when we eat off plan, we eat like crazy. I don't think we will ever learn. I admire people you have that control. Maybe one day.

Toni, I thought it was 1/2 c but I remember Deb saying it was 1/3/ That's not much.

Deb, I prefer soup, but there's nothing canned that is legal and I sure don't feel like making any homemade. :( Are you feeling sorry for me yet?

Kim, Cheerios, Fiber one, oatmeal are cereals I know of. I'm sure there are more. I use skim milk. I make the sf, ff puddings. Congrats on losing 50 lbs. That is awesome. SB is much more liveable then Atkins I think. I little more variety.

Pancho, good luck at the Dr today. Keep thinking postive. You are lucky that you aren't a stress eater.

Chris, I just ran across that recipe last night. I need to give it a try. Have a grea time at Sea World.

Jecrites, if your DH took over the bed, I would make him give you a neck massage. That's the least he could do.

Melf, I'm sure once you get your house back you will buckle down. It's a lot easier when you don't have to cook for others too.

Cheryl, computers are great when they are working, but when they're not, watch out.

Heartmon, we always say I will start again Monday and that gives us the green light to eat anything that isn't nailed down until Monday. I do it too. Why do we do this to ourselves? I can honestly say that nothing I ate off plan tasted that wonderful. I think we truly have a sickness.

Have a great evening.

Evening all

Well, to-day has been good so far. I was working with someone who has recently started Somersizing so that made it easier for me to stay on plan when eating out at lunch time. I just had a chicken salad and a coffee. For breakfast I had cereal and I've had no snacks all day. I even turned down the fresh muffins that were served to us at work this morning. For dinner I am having leftover cabbage and hamburger casserole. Probably will have some fruit for dessert.

Monet - My piano is like a regular piano - same size keyboard. That's great that your friend is doing so well on sb.

Toni48 - Hope you can find the incentive to get your eating back on track and to get back on board. I think we can have 1/2 cup dry oatmeal, someone correct me if I am wrong. But I only ever use 1/4 cup - I find this plenty with 6-7 ozs water added and topped with some milk and fruit.

Jack-K -Sorry to hear you are suffering with a cold. Hope it gets better soon.

JackieO - Glad you enjoyed the concert. If the buffet was the only meal you had yesterday then I'm sure it couldn't have done much damage. But I do think that it is important that we don't skip meals. I know for me if I get too hungry that is the time that I am more likely to go off plan.

Deb - I was thinking of a watch for Michael after him getting home late and giving you the excuse that no one had the time. :). The weather up here is quite mild and sunny. Hope it stays this way for a while. Poor Eli - I wonder how he would feel if he ever read this board . Glad to hear that you are getting in the pool. I was thinking maybe I will go for a swim this evening to the local pool. It's about time that I got some exercise in.

Pancho - Good luck at the doctor's to-day. I'm sending good thoughts your way.

KBP - Welcome to sb. Some of the cereals that are o.k. are oatmeal (not instant), oatbran, shredded wheat, regular cheerios. I use 1% or 2% milk.

Gotta go, it's time to fix supper. I have some laundry to do this evening also want to go out later for a swim.

Bye for now.

Marie.

GOOD EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!

Just got home from a 3pm appointment with the Doc..
Cholesterol and triglycerides are both down, but not enough to please the MAN! Starting me on cholesterol lowering meds. I'll give them a try, but if they cause my liver to quiver, I'll stop.
I've been put on MORE PAIN MEDS!! One that I take two time a day to level out the pain, then if I need the stronger ones, I'm to take (according to the level of pain) anywhere from 1 to 8 a day!!!!!!!! Still wants me to take the SOMA at night to relax the back...(AND THE OTHER STUFF WON'T?)
I have lost 6 more lbs and he was extremely happy with that, but of course, said it could be better! WHEW!!! After two hours with him, I RAN to the car...couldn't wait to get out of there...He's a really nice and excellent Doc (and VERY good looking I might add)
and I know he's only looking out for me, but now because I have to take the cholesterol meds, I have to have blood work and a visit with him every month until the numbers come down!

Thanks everyone for your comments about SKEETER...It's nice to finally have him back where he belongs, and I can now have the closure that I so need.

Conversed with Kim this afternoon, and she's got a killer week ahead of her...she'll be on the board as time allows.

Sorry I can't get to everyone today, got home late and now I've got to fix supper.

BOB, Sorry to hear your doc put you on cholesterol lowering meds. I know how those things are, I took them for about 2 years and my doc just took me off them a month or two ago. I just hope that when I go back next month that she won't put me back on them. That blood work sucks too. Funny thing is there are some people that can do it and you don't feel a thing, then there are others that I'd swear live to make people hurt.

Jack-k, Hubby did rub my shoulder last night before he went to sleep. It felt so good. Be nice if he'd do it again tonight, but it's doubtful. He's stingy with his back/neck rubs.

I stepped on the scales just while ago and it said 190!!! I was so excited, but I know it could be lying to me too. Hoping to get on the TM tomorrow and Wed. and Thurs. Won't have time to do it from Friday on out the weekend, inlaws are coming up here. MIL told me to be prepared to "walk around the nieghborhood" some with her. Of course that's no problem, the problem is gonna be whether she can keep up with me or not..hahaha...all the other times I've walked with her she wants to kind of lag, just a little but she still does it.

Well I gotta go get the spaghetti on. Hopefully hubby won't be much longer. Talk to y'all tomorrow.

Bob, I can relate to you being on cholesterol lowering drugs. I am currently taking Lipitor. I also take pills for diabetes as well. Too many pills to count. Hopefully SB will help me get off of these meds. I see my Endo on Thursday and I just had some bloodwork done. Hopefully he will give me some good news.

Question, do you pay attention to the number of carbs you should have a day? Since I have type two diabetes, I was told to keep my carbs down. You guys are having Cherios and Shredded wheet for breakfast. I looked at the label for these cereals and the carbs were in the 40 range. That seems rather high to me. Am I missing something?

HiedieHo All!

Okay, I'm beginning to think I should stay out of New Orleans! As you know "Grace" is not my middle name! A friend and I went to Loyola for a Barbershop Quartet concert at Roussel Hall. We parked on West Road and proceeded to walk to the hall. Well, my friend walked, I fell. She said I did do it gracefully! I skinned up my right knee and ankle, hurt my right should trying to avoid hitting my head on the pavement, and hurt my left thumb. I got up quick enough, embarrassing laying there! I kept saying I was fine. Friend had some Purell and I used that to clean my knee. We sat through the concert and went to dinner (don't ask!). Was up most of night, and would prowl around as I was getting so stiff. Yesterday I could hardly move. I did not go to church or even downstairs. My neck, headached, right side were really sore. Today head is not so bad, neck still hurts, right hip and knee. I am going to NH but am going to take it easy again today. You know I took a spill the last time I was in N.O., tripped over a curb. (Istarted this post this morning)

DEBBIE: Kidnapping would cause some eyebrows to raise a little. Although nothing is too exciting here.

(finishing post now)Did go to the NH. I felt like I belonged there. I didn't dilly-dally when it was time to leave, I was afraid they'd throw me in a room! Did make an easy supper, and straightened up the kitchen a little.......very little actually. Just tried to rest and pace myself. Tomorrow is wim class which should help. Will see if I feel up tp the Sit/Fit class.

GD loved scarf, looked good without a fringe. The fringe would have made it too long. Had some cookies that I was going to take to church for a evening Halloween Family Fest, Gave then to GD instead since I didn't go, she says college students are always looking for free food!

One good thing except for Saturday supper I have been OP.

Cannot sit here too long, will check in tomorrow.

Take care, Shirley

Big orange Babe:
I am on liptor and the drug is not all bad in fact a heart specialist wants me on it as it is also good for heart patients. I understand how you feel as doctors try and help but my blood pressure goes up the minute I walk in the office.

Not much news just working hard and long hours. My diet is going well lost 2 pounds and that makes it worth being on a new way of life, this board sure helps.

I need some tips on meals I can take in the car with me as sometimes I have 2 appointments a night and have to eat dinner between them and do not have time to stop at a food place to eat. Come on ladies something besides cheese or chicken, as much of that I have to eat I should be able to lay eggs.

Deb: Thanks for the emails on sugar and gly index, you are a sweetheart, giving so much help beside keeping this board going. You are appreciated .

Hello everybody.

Well I still didn't sleep too good last night. The tylenol 3 seems to help the pain a little and it does make me sleepy, but I still wake up to turn over. I really don't want to go to the doc with this, I've got quite a bit of things to do this week. Maybe I should go on and call and get an appt for tomorrow afternoon.

I've got to go to the P.O. today and I want to get my hair cut, gotta call for that too. The hair cut will take the longest, not the actual cutting, but the drive out there. It sucks to be so far away from everything after being used to having it all right at my back door so to speak.

Sef, I hope you get to feeling better. Those "trips" can cause more then you can imagine. My GM fell while walking a long time ago and she broke her arm and hasn't been the same since. I hope you are alright. My shoulder is giving me fits right now too, so I can relate to how you are feeling.

Dave, My b.p. goes up when I walk in the docs office too. I'll be just fine until they call me back there, then I have to sit and wait and I try to close my eyes and breathe deep and all that good junk, but having to have Autumn with me all the time I just can't get "relaxed" enough. As far as fast and easy "to go" meals, I have no clue other then the chicken, it seems to be the most easy to carry along, and less messy. I did have to laugh about you saying you should be able to lay eggs though. Maybe some kind of legal soup you could keep in a thermos, or even stew? I'm sure someone else will have some suggestions.

I don't think I can manage the TM until this mess with my shoulder goes away, but all the stuff I've got to do this week should keep me a little busier then just sitting on my rear. It seems every time I get into some sort of exercise something happens and I can't keep on doing it, granted I only walked on there last week, but I was on my way to a great start.

Gotta hit the shower, I'll talk to y'all later.

Good Tuesday Morning,

The board seems slow this week. That is good for me. Easier to keep up.

Went home last night and cooked all my meals for the rest of the week. Fixed hamburgers last night, manicotti for tonight and a pot of chili that will work for 2 nights since it's just the 2 of us. Feel good that that is off my mind.

Went to the grocery to get food for bunco. I was going to buy some candy corn to set out, but I knew deep in my soul that if I bought it I would eat it. So I let DH pick out something he liked and I didn't. Also bought M&M's but I can resist them. Picking up a carmel apple pie and a chocolate pecan pie. I think I will fix the SB peach cobbler for me.

Cold is getting better I think. The night time pills seem to be lingering this morning. Just can't wake up. :tired: I just don't have much energy. We tried to walk last night. I could only do 2 miles and I griped the whole way. It really wore me out. I did get to rest around 9:00 Wow!

Rosalie, sounds like you had a good day of eating. Maybe you should plan lunch with your friend more often if she keeps you OP.

Bob, it sounds like you just can't please that Doc. Sounds like you are taking bunches of meds. Does all that work ok together?

Jenn, glad you got that back/neck rub. Hold out for another one. I bet you give your MIL a run for her money.

Mom2jared. We don't actually count carbs (most of us), only 1-3 starchy carbs a day. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that 30% of your daily intake should be from carbs. Deb can fill you in better about all that.

Sef, you poor thing. I hope you are feeling better. There is nothing more embarrassing than falling. When we walk I always watch the ground. DH keeps telling me to look up, but I don't want to fall. Yes the college kids will do anything for food. I sent a pot of chili home with DD Sunday to feed the crew. Now she is asking for chicken salad. Guess I will send it next weekend.

Dave, sure we missed you. How about packing a sandwich of some sort? Ham, tuna? How about a salad? Just a few ideas.

Need to get busy here. Be back later.

Good Tuesday Morning!! Thank you all for the prayers. I have to report that all is fine, except that I am the biggest DORK that walked the face of the earth. Did I ever mention to you all that the first place I gain or lose weight is in my breasts & chin/neck. Well it appears that this "lump" in my throat is a normal part of the skeletal muscle that belongs there....I just had too much fat there to notice it before, I guess. He was a great doctor, and said that he didn't feel anything to worry about (and that I was thin enough for him to get a good feel:) ). BUT, he said that since I had been so worried, he would go ahead and scope to make 100% sure. He numbed my nose and then stuck a tube through my nose into my throat (wasn't very comfortable, I'll add) and said that all looks clear and there was no sign of anything unusual. Thank God! The joys of losing weight, eh;) .

I have to volunteer in DD's class today and then have a follow-up with my plastic surgeon from the breast reduction; I still see him every 2-3 months. I really have to get to Costco and Whole Foods, but it will have to wait until tomorrow, unless my DD's are up to it after I pick up Britt from school. Maybe we'll do Costco today and I'll do Whole Foods tomorrow (I am low on Agave Syrup). My DH is eating up all the zucc. bread, and I am going to have to make some more soon.

Oh, I was reading a Weight Watchers magazine at the gym, and guess what I saw? An ad for Lucky Leaf cherry & apple pie filling made with Splenda. It apparently is 65% less calories than regular pie fillings and is made without sugar. I guess this will be great for those of you who don't mind consuming the splenda. I was wondering what to fill my whole wheat pie crusts with. The ad said, "approved by dieticians and six-year olds everywhere." I will give it a try, if I can locate it. I haven't heard of that brand before.

Anyway.....

jecrites: I found some stuff made by Theraflu (I think). It looks like a deodorant container, but has menthol or herbal pain roll-on meds. You just roll it on so you don't have to get your hands all yucked up. I use it from time to time for my lower back pain, and it numbs it up pretty well.

heart: I do have to give you credit for coming clean. You never seem to hide when you have had a bad day. I'm glad you feel that you can do that here. NOW GET YOUR BUTT IN GEAR AND REPORT A 170'S # TOMORROW:lol: . Glad you are keeping up with the exercise; it truly helps in so many ways. Those compliments sure make you feel good, don't they?

Jack-k: Hope your cold clears up soon.

BOB: I listen to a radio program on the weekends that is called, "Heatlh Talk with Dr. Bob." He is into whole foods and natural medicines. He really pushes a product called Lipi-control. Several people have called in that have been on other meds for cholesterol, and they swear that their levels have improved drastically when they switched to lipi-control. It is an all-natural supplement that won't have any long-term affects. You many want to ask your doc. how he feels about you trying that first. He may be pleasantly surprised with the positive results! I may still have the website bookmarked somewhere if you are unable to find info. on it; I can e-mail it to you. Also, a lot of doctors aren't aware of some of these meds or they don't push them because they get some sort of payback for selling other meds through diff. sponsors. I truly think it is worth looking into, and would choose a natural option if at all possible.

Sef: Sorry to hear about your fall. I hope you fell better soon.

SuperDave: When you have time, you may want to peruse the recipe section of this board; you will find a ton of wonderful meal ideas. You should try Country's lasagne recipe (it is wonderful, huge and would make plenty of dinners for you). It freezes well too. Good luck to you!

Well, Delaney is getting restless; better go play with the pumpkin.

Have a great, wonderful, On-plan day.

Now we gotta pray for some cooler days; this heat's killin' me!!

Take care!

Good morning everyone. Am still struggling but am doing pretty good. I know its all in my head. And I've got to do what Deb saids take an hour at a time. And quit worrying about the past.... Anyways its a beautiful day in Missouri. We have lovely fall weather. Just ate a bowl of oatmeal. And yesterday made up a big bean salad with italian dressing and lots of different beans. Its great to put on your regular salad to. Thats the way my hubby likes it. I'm trying some of the new salad in a bag super Walmart has. The one I've got right now is baby spinach with almonds and dried cranberries.

Pancho- Thank goodness you don't have the problem of stress eating. You're sure down to a nice weight and holding it well for sure. I think while I've been away you've been sick and I'm sorry. I hope your app. goes well today. I did allot of my shopping at Amazon last year too. Its a good place to get some nice gifts.

chisd- Hope you have a great time seeing Shampoo! Hope you post that recipe for the chocolate cheese cake in the recipe section. I'd sure like to have it. And of course missed it...

jecrites- Hope your shoulder is better today.

Melf- I hope you get your daughter in and all settled. Sounds like you're awfully busy.

Cherylco- Howdy there gal. Glad your computer is up and running again..

heartmom- Sounds like you had a good week end. But now the fun is over. Gosh I wish I could love exercise. You're really doing great with it.. Keep up the good work...

Jack-K- Have you been sick? I hope not but you said in your post you're weak. Anyway hope you're feeling better soon

Rosalie- Boy doesn't that make it easier to fine someone watching with their weight to eat with. I have a friend that always wants to go out and have a salad. I love that....

Bob- Congradulations on being down 6 lbs. Thats great. I've been taking cholesterol meds for 6 years now. And have to have blood drawn every 3 months. I hate that. Good luck with them...

mom2jared- Hope when you see the doctor he takes you off some of the meds. I take Lipitor too.

sef- I hope you feel better after your fall. That hurts so bad to take a spill like that. Good thing you gave your GD those cookies. Bet she was proud to have them..

SuperDave- Congrads on the two pounds. I know this sounds weird but how bout something in a pita bread. You could fill it with leftovers or just about anything.

Well guess I need to start my day. I've been on here forever and hope I didn't miss anyone. Have a great day!!!

Pancho- I'm so glad that you're neck is okay- have to admit it's funny though:lol:

Jack-k- What are you doing exercising while sick?!:nono:

DEB- Liked the sugar website you passed along. I didn't know a russett potato had more sugar effect than actual table sugar! Potatoes really are evil:devil:

I use 2 scales(yea, I know) and one said 178 and the other said 179. So it's down either way from yesterday:smug: I last took my measurements on Oct.2. I weighed about the same as I do today. I HAVE LOST 5 1/2"!!:cb: I think this is the first time in 2 years that I've lost inches without losing weight. Cool! That gives me the proof that the exercising is definetly helping:jig: Anyway, I had a small granny apple and NSA yogurt this morning. Going to eat leftovers for my lunch. For supper, I'm going to make baked chicken(in mushroom soup), green beans, and my squash dish(squash, tomatoes, onions topped with Velvetta cheese). I'll probably get hungry before then and eat some Smucker's PB filled celery sticks. Well, that's about all for now. I made Ashley stay home today because she kept coughing and coughing this morning. So the kids are already getting to me.

Another morning off....I am enjoying the off time, and the slow pace. I have to make dinner tonight for my massage therapist, and I have NO idea what I am going to fix. She said something veggie, but never clarified if she meant something vegetarian, or just with lots of veggies. I may make something like macaroni and cheese, and several veggies.

Last night, I made ww pizza for dinner. I did well in that I ate only three pieces. I had two small ones for breakfast this morning. Unfortunately, I found the chocolate chip cookies, and ate four of them this morning with my tea. :(

Not much else going on around here. Laura has a job interview after school today. I am hoping she gets the job, so she can earn the money to help buy the car she is going to need next semester.... :s:

DEB: I found the red velvet cake ice cream at the store I used to work at last night, and got one. I noticed that the GI of ice cream is much kinder than some other things...:s: I still have not opened any of them yet though....If I don't lay off those cookies, I am never going to get into the new territory so I can!

PANCHO: I am glad you got the all clear from the doctor!

BOB: I read with interest your doctor's giving you lipitor. There is a natural cholesterol remedy if you want to try it. My doctor prescribes Slo-Niacin instead of lipitor. I get it for Tom at Costco. He takes two twice a day, and his cholesterol has dropped dramatically... The doctor takes the Slo-Niacin himself for his cholesterol as well. Tom did not want to take lipitor because of the way it works. He is very happy with the results he is getting with the Slo-Niacin. I might add, his cholesterol has always been really bad. Even when he was eating really really well. He is very self disciplined, but a low fat diet high in soluable fiber did not control it. The Slo-Niacin does.

SUPERDAVE: Of course we missed you! Ideas for quick dinners: My hubby carries a container of salmon salad, or tuna or chicken salad, (you could put it on a bed of lettuce, and carry a plastic fork to make it easier), there are some protein bars that are low in sugar that make a nice meal with a cup of coffee or tea- we like the Nitro Tech ones, since they do not contain soy. Slices of deli meats, rolled with a slice of cheese are easy. Along with some celery and carrots it makes a nutritious meal. I make beef jerky for easy high protein snacks, if you are intested in the recipe, let me know. (its VERY easy to make!)

Ok, gotta go get some stuff done! hello to everyone!

I hope everyone is off to a good start this week. I'm struggling but still fighting.

I can't respond to everyone today. But I wanted to say hello! I'm finally starting to feel like the cold is breaking. At least my nose is starting to dry up and some energy is starting to return.

HiedieHo All!

Went to swim class but could not due all the exercises my ROM is not too strong at the moment! I don't believe in the "no pain no gain" theory. You should feel you have done something but not hurt doing it! Each day some part of me feels better. I think the longest to heal will be the hip and shoulder. Later I have to go with Joyful Noise to entertain.

DAVE: Sounds like you have "White Coat Syndrome", soon as you see one your BP goes up. Sandwiches travel well, just don't make "sloppy" ones. Wrap the part you are holding in anapkin to catch the drips. Don't forget fruit. Strips of leftover roast or steak are good too.

JECRITES: Sorry about your shoulder. You might need something stronger than Tylenol 3. One to remember about pain killers, they do help the pain and help you move better since you don't have as much pain. BUT (there's always a but!), it is easy to overdo because you don't have the pain. So a fine line needs to be walked.

JACKK: I did look at the pavement along what I thought would be the proposed route before we started moving, but Betty was in front and she did a little off side and I didn't look. I have to be careful of change of surface as that throws me. Good for you not buying candy you like. I have to do the same. I made chili the other night it's a fav around here. Many frank and bean casserole last night. Hope you are feeling better.

The 3rd I am having a group of women here and there is always dessert and coffee before starting the study. So will have to think of something. I've made the cheesewcake frequently as everyone says it's so good. But I get tired of the same thing. Any suggestions out there?

PANCHO: It is a joy! Just think to have the doc say you are thin enough for him to get a good feel! I can remember being excited about finding my collarbone! Lucky Leaf products are good. I have used their pie fillings for years. They have a NSA but it is hard to find. I'll have to look for the Splenda one now. They also make applebutter. Thanks for the info.

TONI: Had to give GD the cookies! I don't need temptation like tem lying around!

MONET: See why I gave GD the cookies! GET RID OF THE COOKIES! Feed the garbage disposal if necessary!

Have to go need some lunch. Well, I suppose I don't NEED it but it keeps me from getting so hungry I go overboard when I eat next!

Take care, Shirley

Hello again everyone.

Can someone explain something to me? My scales said 190 this morning just as they did yesterday afternoon, (I know, weird), but I can wear some of my size 14 jeans without them cutting my breathing off. I don't get it:shrug:

Jack-k, Glad your cold is getting better. All those goodies sure sound good!

Pancho, That's great news! Glad things were fine. I wouldn't say you were a dork, you just didn't know. It always scares the crap out of us when we find something that's supposed to be there that we haven't noticed before. I'll have to look for some of that stuff, I've never seen any before, but then again I normally don't need something like that either.

Fillise, Good to hear your cold is getting better and your getting some energy back.

Sef, I have some muscle relaxers but I really don't want to take any of those, they make me woozie (if that's a word). I'm seriously thinking of making an appt. for tomorrow afternoon sometime. I hope it doesn't take you too long to get over you fall.

I think I'm going to go call the doc and get an appt. for tomorrow. I'll talk to y'all later.

Boy, I'm with Fillise on the busy beavers on the board this week. Just wanted to pop in and say hi. I did see that the get-together is officially approved by Missy's sweetie. Thanks!! Can't wait. Details, Deb, we want details.

Jecrites - just wanted to throw out some things on your shoulder problem. I'm not sure how old you are, but a couple of years ago I had this problem develop with my shoulder that nothing seemed to help. They finally just called it shoulder impingement which is a pretty generic catch-all term. Tried everything from injections, to painkillers, muscle relaxers, chiropractic, and physical therapy. I finally had the phys. therapist tell me that this is pretty common in women in their 30's and 40's. It seems to come on for no apparent reason and usually just goes away on it's on as well. Some of the things that did help was ibuprofen alternated with the tylenol (the pharmacist told me they actually work better together), exercises to increase the ROM and alternating heat and ice. I also switched to a smaller purse, it's amazing how much mine weighed. It did finally go away and of course 6 months after that I fell and dislocated the OTHER shoulder and had to have surgery.

Well, that ended up being a book. Sorry about that.

Gotta run, now. I'll try to check in later.

No big plans except to fix dinner and food for bunco. May go to funeral home, by sister's MIL passed away so feel like I should go.

Pancho, so glad the lump was nothing. You can never be too sure. Glad you had it checked out anyway. That Lucky leaf filling is a popular brand. I wish I could find it too. The cherry would be good over Deb's cheesecake.

Toni, just take one day at a time or one hour if you must. Just think about what you really want. You have done this before so I know you can do it again. I'm counting on you. I just have a cold.+

Heartmom, 5 1/2 inches is awesome  I would much rather lose inches then the scale numbers. Your clothes fit better and you get to move into that next smaller size.

Monet, you need to hide those cookies of throw them away. Theya re just going to keep calling yoru name if you don't.

Fillise, glad you are hanging in there. You can do this. I bought Tylenol Cold pills. They have a daytime (non drowsy) and a night time to help you sleep. They worked wonders quickly.

Sef, I think they threw out that no pain no gain theory. I wouldn't push yourself to that point. Take care.

Jenn, Why do I weight 155 and can wear some 8's? I really think it is the exercise and the wt training especially that makes the difference. Keep it up!

Good luck to everyone for WIW. Let's see some big losses.

Have a great evening.

I just received the book I ordered in the mail today, the "Slim Yourself Thin" by that French guy (please don't ask me to spell it). I plan to read it tonight and put SB aside so I can better understand it better. I see the Endo on Thursday and I hope he has some good news for me on my bloodwork. Even though my weight has not changed much, I have been eating healthier and staying away from the reg soda and chocolate.

I want to start the SB diet as soon as possible but I want to find out as much as I can before starting so I do it right. I been on so many darn low carb diets that I am used to counting carbs. I was told to stay away from anything high in carbs. With SB you look at the glycemic index, right? I'm sorry to be such a pest with these questions but I'm in the middle of the book and I don't want to jump ahead. My reading is getting hampered by my two year old who wants me to play with him more than I can read.

GO MARLINS!!!! (I'm live in Florida but born in New York, so what the heck! GO YANKEES TOO) Even though I want the Marlins to win! Hee Hee!

Hi everyone.....el dorko here! Maybe that s/b my new user id name.

Today was busy, but productive. I helped out in dd's class for awhile and then went to Costco and my doctor's ofc. I was almost late picking up my dd from school; got there in the nick of time. I will have to hit Whole Foods tomorrow. I dropped over $200 today at Costco, but did buy a few gifts.

Toni: Thanks; I'm glad all turned out to be well. I get so worked up over health things. Hang in there, and take it one day at a time.

heart: Yeah, I guess we can laugh about it now; Thank God. You are doing great....in the 170's and a 5 1/2" loss. Wow, that's fantastic. I need to do my measurements again, since it's been a few months.

Fillise: Glad you are starting to feel better.

Sef: The zucchini loaf cake would be a great dessert to make for your little get-together. I use 3/4 cup agave instead of the 1/2 + 2 Tbs.

jecrites: Scales are like men; you never can figure them out;) .

Jack-k: Yummmy...cherry filling on the cheesecake sounds great. I will have to look for it now!

Mom: I hope your appt. goes well and you can get this eating plan all figured out. You do not have to count carbs (just starchy carbs, and limit that to 2-3 per day). It is the sugar content you want to watch out for (nothing over 3g per serving). It will all come together. I was confused at first too; heck I still get confused sometimes. That is why we are all here though.

OH, I HAVE A QUESTION: I thought that creamed soups were not o.k. (cream of chicken, mushroom, celery) but have seen recipes for them. Is this a "in moderation" type food??

Thanks.

Have a great evening, and I will check in tomorrow a.m.

Hey girls & guys

Just skimming the posts - too tired to stay on the computer. Hope all is well with everyone!

FILLISE: No - I'm not proud of the obnoxious fans! Actually, I can't stand them!! Whenever we see visiting fans being tormented and I happen to be around, I always make it a point to go up to them and tell them that we are not all *******s! HAHA! I guess every teams got 'em! Actually I heard FLORIDA was the worst - is that true GATOR?

See y'all later - I'm hittin the sack early!

Tonight was not pretty. Too much bread...I made calzones for my massage therapists family, and ate too much bread. Now I feel yucky. I am going to go pile up in the bed with a book and read. I have an anthology of Regency Christmas stories I am reading and the last one made me really mad. The ending was so stupid! How do these authors get published? Makes me want to finish the book I started. I bet I could get it published...

I have to work tomorrow. I am not looking forward to it, but it is the only day I am scheduled, so I guess I will survive!

FRUIT: I think that you are right about the UF fans... :s: By the way, I like your tag line...:)

PANCHO: I got some of the Lucky Leaf splenda sweetned pie filling at the Super Wal Mart.

JACKK: I agree! Thankfully, there is only two or three of them left! My son got into them when he was here for lunch, thankfully!

SEF: I hope you are feeling better and not too sore or stiff! Please be careful! I hate to hear you are hurting!

FILLISE: Hope you feel better! Let me know what you schedule is like, and I will try and plan a trip over to Auburn. I can bring you agave, and flour if you like....

Pancho- the creamed soups are okay if you eat them in moderation, like in cooking- not eating a bowl of it. I cooked cream of mushroom with my chicken and it gives it a good flavor and keeps it moist. It makes a gravy in the bottom, so most of the soup ends up in the bottom of the pan. I usually only dip a spoonfull out and pour over my chicken. For the rest of the family, sometimes I cook rice and they use it as gravy.

Okay, I went to my exercise class this evening. We used the step this time and my knees hurt a little. I was really into it though-worked up a big sweat. Came home and ate supper, and managed to only eat one plate this time. Put the leftovers up for my lunch tomorrow. I normally don't do this, but I have a prayer request. It's for a little girl(she's 2) named Serena. Her Mom is a member of my online support group(heart). They live in RI and Serena will be having her 3rd open heart surgery this Thursday. Stephanie(the Mom) is a nervous wreck. Please keep them in your prayers. Unfortunately, I know exactly how she feels since Serena is having the same kind of surgery Boogie had last year. This surgery is also harder on the parents because the child is older and "appears" to be healthy. Hard to hand your baby over for OHS when a few hours prior, they were running and playing.

Hi all,
We're back from the great folk art show we went to Northport Alabama to see. It was fabulous. Never did hear from Beach. She hasn't been on the board in a while. She's OK???

Fruit--Actually I don't think Gator fans are any worse than any other school. We've experienced some horrid fans at LSU, UT and AU. And UGA was the worst. The only school that seemed to have generally nice fans was U. So. Carolina. Generally people are the same so you'll have some bad fans and plenty of good ones. I think any negativism toward the Gators is because the other teams didn't like losing to UF all those years.

Am really busy this week. We have a test coming up in French and I have several papers due Thursday.

seb: thanks for the good idea's

Monet: thanks and would like beef jerky recp.

Je Crites : thanks for idea's will try them from all of you.

Jackie and Nat thanks for idea's will use them.

Toni48 I love pita bread Made a sandwich
and took an apple.

My back problem is almost gone and I have to say that streching 3 to 4 times a day has been the most help. I am back to walking every other day and with out pushing it will get back to 6 days a week.

Where is my friend from Dallas area is she ok, haven't seen her post?

Today is a new day, yesterday is gone and tommorow is not here yet. So spend it wisely as time is something we can not buy or borrow or steal back, once spent it is gone forever. There is some food for thought?

Ladies Scales are not the only way to see if we are losing weight, take measeurements (sp hey its 2Am) and weighing twice a month is plenty and do it the same time and day. If it is that time of the month don"t even think about it. I hate to say it but a light workout with weights and walking is as much of a key to our success as the food we eat. If you have health problems join a gym and use the pool .Make sure you check with your doctor and then go for it, you are never to old .

Hey Everybody!!!! Weigh in weight was finally GOOD to me. I am down 3 pounds, granted two of them were the same two I have been losing and gaining, but I am Ecstatic!!! Only 19 pounds to goal.. Also, I worked out with my trainer this morning and I told her I wanted to try to do a regular man pushup, instead of my normal modified. She told me she thought I could do it, and guess what...I DID 20!!!! Yes, that's right. 20 man pushups. Im am so excited. That was better than losing the 3 pounds. My trainer's boyfriend called after our session (He plays for the 49ers), and I was so excited I told her, " Tell him that I did 20 man pushups!!!!). He said, "are you sure that is a girl you are training". So now you know I think I am Rocky or something. I will probably be skipping rope up the stairs later today! Just Joking!!

SuperDave- I am so GLAD you are back on the boards. I missed you! Hope you are feeling better.

JackK- Hope you are feeling better, too. How was the bunco? Sorry to hear of your sisters's loss.

Missy- I am so glad you will be hosting the Sb get together at the Loupe Lodge!!!

Pancho- Rolling on the floor laughing about your thin neck discovery. Seriously, I am so glad it wasn't anything to worry about.

Hello to Monet, Susan, ChrisD, Sef, Deb, Heartmom, CountryMom, Mom2jared, jecrites, colleen, and all the other Sugarbusters peeps. Have a great day--Ashley

Hey everyone.

Well the scales still say 190 this morning so I guess I have lost that 5 pounds!

I go see the doc today at 1. I sure hope there's something she can do for this. I'm so tired of not being able to move right anymore. It really feels like it needs to be popped.

It's also library day for Autumn, and then I have got to get some things around here cleaned up no matter how bad it hurts to move. The inlaws are going to be here around 5 or 6 tomorrow evening and this house is a disaster area.

Don't have time to reply, gotta get something for Autumn to eat and then at least get one load of laundry started. I just wanted to report what the scale said. I'll talk to y'all later.

Good morning. I was gonna skip posting this morning because of the old saying if you can't say nothing nice say nothing at all. Well, sometimes the truth just isn't nice. :) I'm out of control and have been for a few days. I'm not eating all the time but I keep turning to chips and cheese nips. I'm under a mountain of stress right now. What's so bad is the scales are up and have been. Around 157....which you think would make me behave. Oh, no more the reason to say who cares. I know I care. It's odd. I stood in the kitchen last night eating cheeze nips. After having a good day eating, saying to myself, you are stress eating. And I just kept on stuffing. I woke up this morning and yep, I ate the rest of the cheese nips for breakfast. I haven't exercised since last Thursday.

I asked Robert how come it's sooo easy to gain and so hard to lose. He said it was a lot like credit...LOL But seriously I'm not in a good place and I'm trying not to lose my focus. The lines can get so blurry between giving up and knowing that this all is just a moment that too will pass.

I should delete this but just in case some else is having or has had these kinds of days I'll share.

I'm a bit behind on posts so I'd better get to reading.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

Good WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY Morning!

I could be exercising, I could be sleeping, but I figured I better get my butt on here before I really get so far behind that I would never catch up!!!

It's only 7:30am as I start this post but if I don't start it now I won't get anything posted at all. I'm suppose to go to a meeting for my parents who are still in NC but have no clue where to go, the guy never called back to let us know where it's suppose to be and when today so I guess this isn't going to happen. Have to go to payroll and pay bills for my Mom and then my yoga teacher called and wanted some help with a few things as well as have me go shopping with her. That can only happen if I don't hear from this guy by 10am.

Want to jump right in to replies while I have the time...

KPB, hope you find your way over here to see the replies. You'll find many other Atkins converts over here that can relate to your desires to widen your food selections. They can give you more insight to how they've done since converting over to SB. I personally eat Fiber One cereal and use skim milk and I do eat mini meals. If the book seems a bit confusing, contradictory and/or misleading, trust me, it's not you, it's the book. We'll be happy to help answer questions to help clarify anything. Hmm, smaller meals, no prep work? Do you mean, like frozen? How about yogurt? Cottage cheese? Something prepared beforehand and nuked? Is that a possiblility?

PANCHO, I wish I could stop eating when I was stressed, geez, I'd be a twig! Glad to hear all is well with your neck! That's too funny! Gosh, honestly, I can't remember how long ago that lump was removed, maybe 5-6 years? Can't remember what it was either. You'd think I would but things like that, I just don't remember. It was right above my left ear in my scalp, about the size of a half dollar I think he said. If I would of left it it would of gotten bigger, so had it removed. I've had cans of the Lucky Leaf in my cabinet for years and have yet to even open them, not a one, maybe that would be something I could try and make something with soon, before they expire:rolleyes: Creamed soups, I think it depends what type and what's in it. I know I've used the cream of mushroom soup but forgot which one but remember that I had to read label after label before I found one that was, what I deemed, okay and yes, moderation was one of the thought factors in using it.

CHRIS, glad to hear the newest version of cheesecake was a smash! Girl, before you know it I can just imagine you calling me and telling me you're baking for restaurants! Glad you liked that HFS! When you going back? How far away is the drive from your home? Got your e-mail and shipped out a little package for you yesterday, so you should get it today or tomorrow I'd think. LMK when you do and I can tell you what's what and what to do with it!!!

JEC, hope you are feeling better. We have a king size bed and luckily, I stay to my side and ELI to his and we never meet up unless it's during the winter time and cold or...:s: CONGRATS on hitting 190! Before you know it you'll be hitting new numbers and be in the 180's:cp: That's a great loss! Have fun with running circles around your ML!! How's the haircut come out?

MELF, hope everything was hooked up and got to working and DD and GB are in their new home. I thought they had moved long ago, what was the delay? I'm sure you'll get back in to the groove of things again, don't worry, I know you will, I have hope for the both of us. Besides, if you don't, you know I'm coming up there:s:

CHERYL, glad to see you back!

HEART, it seem we both have a problem with going off plan and keep running in the wrong direction when we do. I keep saying, it's like sugar is like heroine or crack, and we're a recovering addict. We can go days with being good and then one little taste of the "drug" and we can't stop til we seem to OD (in disgust usually). Only difference is OD'ing on drugs is a lot worse than OD'ing on sugar! If they were one and the same, we'd surely not be eating it! But thinking about what I just wrote, in a way, we are killing ourselves with sugar-what it does to us and our bodies by making us gain weight. One day I hope to find a way for me to be able to indulge and get back OP. It must be a defective gene I have - others seem to be able to do it and as much as I want to do it I find it quite hard, though not impossible, nearly so.

JACKK, hoping you are feeling better, but feel sorry for you? I'm a hard ***, are you joking??? Actually, they do have legal canned soups out there, just the task to find them may take some time. Why not make a huge pot of soup you like and portion them in ziploc freezer bags, flattened, then take those to work with you to eat? I love good thick hearty soups, but of course, since I can't cook worth a darn, those are hard to find in my house, so when I have a craving for soup, it's to the grocery store I go searching. My mind just thought of a thick mushroom barley soup! Wonder if I could make some one day?!? I hate to admit it, though I'm not a lover of MnM's, I couldn't resist them if I was in one of my splurge moods, though other times, they couldn't entice me. I actually have come to like peanut ones better lately (I mean, in later years, not lately that I've eaten them).

ROSALIE, glad to see another post so close to the last. Gosh, my mind must of been mush, never thought about the watch, duh! Actually, he has one but it needs a new band, so maybe I should get that fixed. Thanks for the reminder. Glad to hear you have a co worker who's on a WOE similiar to SB, that def. should help.
Oh, ELI, he knows I tell you guys just about everything. Nothing I don't usually tell him to his face anyhow.

BOB, that's great you've lost another 6lbs since seeing the Dr.:bravo: Will give you a buzz soon. Your sweetie has been on Liptor for quite a while due to hit cholesterol being ridiculously high. I've read lots of different kinds of articles about lowering chol. with certain foods, like artichoke, among others. I'm always reading stuff like that and showing it to him, not that it ever helps.

MOM, I do keep track of the number of carbs and the types of carbs. I try to keep my carbs to about 45% of my daily intake. What types of carbs you eat are important, not to mention high fiber carbs, the more fiber, the better. I don't know about the other cereals you mentioned as I don't eat them, but Fiber One has 24 grams of carbs per serving, but 14 of those are Fiber, a big impact! That means only 10 grams of net carbs since you can deduct the fiber as it goes right through your body. LOL! I hope you got the right book EAT YOURSELF SLIM is the one! Hope it helps make things a bit more clear when you read it. Yes, we do look at the GI of foods, BUT, it's not the only tool and if you read the post I posted last week, I think, it's a combination of things that makes eating low GI a good WOE. Seems Marlins lost miserably yesterday - better luck today!

SEF, again?!?!? What's with you and falling? Geez, don't you think you shouldn't be hitting the bottle before hitting the pavement;) Seriosuly, I really hope you are okay. How'd you fall, just loss of balance or did you trip over something (like your two left feet?)? Oh, don't push the envelope with me. If your butt doesn't show up at FRUITS in February, don't think twice that I won't hop in my Dungeon Mobile and come drag your *** up there, oh no, not for one minute:nono: There's only one way you'd get out of not being able to make it and I'm sure that won't be an option!!!!

DAVE, who said we hadn't missed you? You're our main man! ELI is on Liptor as well, well, when he decides to take it. He has extremely high cholesterol which actually runs in his family. As I mentioned to BOB above, I've read many ways to lower chol. with eating certain foods. CONGRATS on losing another 2lbs!!:bravo: Foods you can eat on the run, hmmm:chin: give me an idea, are you leaving home going on the appt and then to the other, or straight from work? If from work, do you have a microwave? You can find you can take just about ANYTHING you want to eat if you have either a small insulated cooler or one of those insulated bags, it will keep foods hot or cold. Planning ahead shouldn't be a problem at all. YELLOWROSE, she'll meander on here soon. I spoke to her over the weekend. Her and her DH are two of the nicest people I've ever met, what a pair!!!!

TONI, sometimes, not only do I find when you are having a tough time, that coming on the board makes hard times easier, but go through some of the old MM messages and printing them out and reading them when I'm having a tough time seems to help. I don't know if it's the words or the time it takes to read them, thus, letting the "feeling" of wanting something off plan to pass, or both, but for me, it doesn't help.

MONET, what I wouldn't give for a "real" massage! I like the water massagers they have at the mall, but a real one, I'd love. Then I think about someone kneading my fat and I think not:nono: Hate it when anyone touches it and ELI loves to grab it just to drive me nuts, and LAUREN, she grabs what she says is my ELBIS FAT - fat on my elbow!:fr: I had wanted to buy both ice creams last night, my Publix was out of both, LAUREN ran in to another one right around the block and I told her if they only had one of them not to get any, so got none. Seems they are totally out of the peppermint, the one I want the most-maybe it's a sign!!!! LMK when you do finally try the RVC one, I know how the other one tastes. As for the GI of the ice cream, I think the BREYERS ones are the ones with the lowest GI since they don't have all the crap in it (vanilla, coffee, the unjunky ones). I don't think ice creams can be generalized, unfortunately.

FILLISE, thanks again for sending that stuff to MICHAEL, he'll look at it today. Finally found out what he had done that Adobe thing for. Two of the teachers at his school traveled to the National Educational Computer Conference in Seattle to receive awards as 2 of the 5 teachers in the nation to be named Adobe Master Teachers. His teacher, Mrs. O'Connor presented at the Adobe both, and both teachers taught a lab. Their presentation at their booth played MICHAEL's film continuously.

TRISH, will have details of the next SB GET TOGETHER soon. Have to pin FRUIT down with a phone call or e-mail. I'll at least get the dates for everyone so they can plan ahead.

FRUIT, speaking of the devil:s: Need you to e-mail me the dates in February when you get a chance. Also, LMK when a good time to call is to discuss a few things with you.

GATOR, did you buy anything interesting at the show? BEACH was on once I believe last week, not so far this week though.

JACKIE, CONGRATS!!!! WOO HOO!!! Under the 20lb mark, that's absolutely awesome!!! 20 pushups! WOW! Only way I could do that is in the pool with my legs floating behind me;)

COUNTRY, missed you and wondered what was going on. I'm glad you didn't delete that post. You know we all struggle and have these times and this is when I think we need the board more than ever. You'll get back on track, that's for sure and I know that-more importantly, you know that. Will try to give you a call soon, maybe a call from me would help;)

Well, here it is, almost 10am! I had a long phone call from my friend Sara who hadn't gotten my reply for her son's Bar Mitzvah this weekend. I was only going to go to the B/M on Saturday morning and not the party which is really far away and on Sunday, but she wants me to come on Sunday instead so we can talk and I can see their new house, which sounds more like a mansion. When Sara says it's big, that means it's bigger than big and as she was telling me what they were going to have in the back yard, my brain started expanding my idea of what it must look like-not only do they have a pool and will have tents in the back for the party, but she's ordered all this stuff like a rock climbing wall, bungy trampoline, josting thing, velcro wall, water slide, something you sit in like a gyro scope and get turned upside down in, and gosh knows what else. Let's just say, Fred and Sara don't do anything on a small scale and money is not an issue with them at all-must be nice! So, I'm sure it's going to be nice and I'm sure I'll be eating stuff that's not OP, as I know there will be things that are going to be so decadent that I've never had before that I'll be dying to try, so that's going to be a given, but I will try my best to not totally indulge. I'm sure it will be fun, though I'm not looking forward to the drive which is well over an hour a way from me.

Now, my yoga teacher is on the phone , she is getting directions to come here so I better get going and get ready, she'll be here soon.

Will check in later!!!

I am not happy that you are having these eating problems, a couple idea's when you start to rationalize the eating of the forbidden fruit, find a project to go do, example go for a short walk, or go sew on something or do sometime to get your mind off food. I go read the bible and it helps to clear my mind and get rid of the impulses. Try putting all the forbidden foods in a separate cupboard, and train your mind you only go there to feed kids or hubby, otherwise it is a forbidden area.
it take mental control but can work.you have to do this the minute you start to think it ok to cheat just this one more time. There is some carb that is driving this urge, chane some of you carb foods and you will find the culpriut. We are here to help not just tell how our day is going.

Hey all! another quickie, but if I don't post I really go to the dogs!

Country--I can sympathize--that seems like where I am now too. What's up with us? I'm pretty stressed over a lot of things right now and have gone back to using food as the self-medication. Perhaps we can stick together and get back on track!!!!!

Missy--I think there is a certain "lore" about LSU. Actually my brother has gone with a friend of his who is a big BAMA fan to several games around the SEC. His favotire place is Baton Rouge because he says everyone there is nice and if you walk around everyone will feed you the best food in the world!

Jackie--Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Jecrites--you can lose mondo inches even when you are not losing pounds!!!!

Pancho--I'm glad the lump turned out to be a normal part of your body! I had the same reaction the first time I felt my collar bones! LOL!

Deb--Go to the party--it sounds swanky.

SuperDave--For out and about--if I get stuck I will sometimes pick up chicken nuggets hoping there is less white flour on them than on a HB bun. Also a taco saled from taco bell is OK if you don't eat the shell!

BOB--How ya doin???? Big game this week for UT and Bama. You know where my heart is in that game. Oh yeeh--I need you to pull for LSU this weekend! LOL!

Heart--it is a struggle isn't it? But your overall progress is great--keep your eye on the big picture.

Monet--I was just thinking about trying to swing up to Atlanta on Friday--what's your schedule like?

If I missed anyone I apologize--gotta get to work!

CONFESSION TIME...........

Hi everyone. Went to Sea World yesterday and i cheated for the first time since starting SB. we left the house around 745am...I brought a little baggie of cheerios with me to snack on for the ride. By the time 1230 came I was STARVING. There werent many places to eat...so we settled at the first place we saw. They did have chicken caesar salad there, but it looked disgusting..the lettuce was all wilty and the chicken looked gross. So guess what I had.....yep, chicken fingers and french fries. Talk about guilt. I thought of all of you for every bite....and all i kept saying while I was eating was either this or starve...and that I will apologize to all of you for my actions today! lol. I feel so bad today...but today is another day...thats what I need you to tell me! :) But I did a huge amount of walking yesterday, so maybe that made up for some of it.

DEB - Thanks for mailing that stuff. I will let you know as soon as it gets here. The HFS is about 30 minutes away. It amazes me how many times I have been in that shopping center when I worked over there and never even looked in that direction. lol..go figure!

EL DORKO - (aka. Pancho) Thank God it was nothing...how funny is that though! Thats gotta be a great feeling...to have the Dr. say you are thin enough to get a good feel!

Gotta run...Dominic is yelling at me!

Good WIW. I was at 122#'s this morning. I also got to the gym and had a great workout. I did 5 minutes on eliptical, and then worked upper body on weights & circuit and then did 30 minutes on treadmill. They had a great image presentation there today. It was awesome. They had a block of fat there, exactly what it looks and feels like. I couldn't believe it was only one pound. It was large and dimply and gross. They also had one pound of muscle right beside it, which was heavier than the fat, but much smaller. It was so neat. It is so hard to imagine that I have lost 30 of those pounds. It was a great imagery for those of us who have a difficult time comprehending it.

Today I will get my Whole Foods run done. I love that place.

Monet: I will have to look for the pie filling at Wal-Mart. Have you tried it yet?

heart: thanks for the info. on the creamed soups. I like to use them in recipes, and couldn't imagine eating one by itself. I will pray for Serena and her mom. It must be so difficult to go through something that difficult.

Jackie: Great on the 3# loss. That is so wonderful. I cannot believe you did 20 "man" push-ups. I would die doing 5, if I could even do that many. You Go Girl!!

jecrites: You've kept that 5# off for awhile; it must be official. Congratulations!

Country: So glad you came here. Hang in there Sweetie. You will get back on track. You've been such an inspiration to me and many others. Just admitting it is a great start to getting back on plan. Does eating that stuff make your tummy feel icky at all?

Deb: Thanks for the info. on the creamed soups. If you try the pie filling, I'd love to know what you think. Have fun at the BM; and enjoy a few delicious things.

chrisd: Every once in awhile, you need to allow yourself a little indulgence, as long as you know how to get back on track and not let one bad eating experience lead to another. I do so much better when I allow myself to have something I shouldn't every once in awhile. You have done so well; look at it as a little reward for eating so well the past few months.

Anyway...I better run and get the kids dressed.

I'll check in later.

Have a great OP day!

Thanks for the encouragement and advice.

Poncho...no way...LOL I wish it made my tummy feel icky.

Susan...I'm sorry you are in this place but its nice to know someone understands.

Thanks Dave. I've been in some major prayer lately. It's just a matter of time before I get back on track. I'm so glad your back is feeling better.

ChrisD.....I'm sorry you felt quilty instead of enjoying your treat. :) If you can get right back on track..no harm no foul.

Deb...hope you ended up not having to wait too long for that fella to call and were able to get out and enjoy your day.

Jenn...wtg on losing 5 pounds.

Love,
Crystle

FILLISE: I am off this Friday. Come on down! :) The only thing I need to do is go over to the church office and collate and staple the worship guides sometime on Friday. I can do that fairly early in the morning though. I COULD make you go with me and help! :s: It only takes me about an hour and a half to do it. Call me and let me know what you decide! It would be wonderful to see you!

I wanted to write a nice long post, but Laura just called so I have to go pick her up from school! Later!

HiedieHo All!

A beautiful morning. That's several nice ones in a row. Went to swim class but did not do the Sit/Fit, I was just too sore and tired. I think it takes more energy out of you if you're not up to par.

Had a good time entertaining yesterday, the audience was enthusiastic and really joined in. Thursday we go to one that is always a tough sell. It is lower level patients and you never know how they will react. Tough when one starts crying, the song probably rings a bell for some memory (can't be that we make music that bad!). The main thing is that you have elicited a response.

JECRITES: Glad you are making an appt w/ doctor. There are meda that shouldn't make you woozie.....a perfectly good word by the way!

PANCHO: Never thoght about zucchini as I'm not overly fond of it. Good idea. I do make a parmigiana (sp?) dish w/ it. I just slice he zucchini, layer it w/ tomato sauce of choice and mozzarella and bake. My DIL is allergic to eggplant but can eat this delicious meal.

MONET: Thanx. I am going to check Wal*mart for the pie filling.

DAVE: Glad your back is getting better.

COUNTRY: Glad you didn't delete! We all have times like that and it's good to know we are not alone in our problems. Also to see how others grab their boot straps and pull themselves up.

DEB: They put speed bumps in parking lots to trip up speeding walkers!!! It's really quite easy! Betty said I was very graceful! I'm just going to stay out of N.O. a while. Honey, you aren't big enough to drag my fat *** anywhere. There's just too much of it for a wee thing like you!

Well, want to get supper started. Making some pork ribs.

Take care, Shirley

or what???? I guess since Crystle and ChrisD have fessed up, I better slink in and fess up too. I stopped at Wendy's on the way home from work yesterday and had a hamburger and french fries! I have no idea what got into me. Just decided I wanted it and did it. Quick somebody send the wagon to Texas!!!

Then when I got home, Seth had forgotten some of his homework, the kitchen was dirty, I was mad at myself, and I was just in a generally pissy mood all the way around.

I think we're going camping this week-end if we can get the campsite reserved. I have no idea how I let myself get talked into these things. It's supposed to rain and I don't even like camping. I've only been once, and I did not love it! We're going with another couple so that will be fun. Joe told our friend that he and Seth are going out on Friday evening to get everything set up so that it's all ready and waiting for me. Then I'm supposed to come out on Saturday and can leave if it starts raining. Joe said he wants my virgin camping experience to be wonderful so I'll be willing to go back. I'm making no promises.

I'm making burgers for dinner, I think. I made some chili on Sunday and have some left so we can have chili burgers. That sounds yummy.

Talk to you guys soon.

Howdy y'all.

I'm back from the doc. She said that I prob pulled the muscle back there somehow or the other. She gave me a muscle relaxer and a pain pill, (the pain pill because of my high b.p. and not being able to take motrin or advil). I sure hope this works. She told me if it's no better in a week to go back in. Hoping the muscle relaxer will knock me out tonight too.

Uh oh, I forgot about the laundry downstairs. Guess I better get on that mess right away. I did wash one load before we left for the library this morning, it's still in the washer. Hopefully the dang dryer will cooperate with me and get things done in one round instead of going for two.

Deb, I wasn't all that happy with the hair cut at first, could have been the way she "styled" it. It looked horrible! Now that I got my hands on it, I'm liking it a bit better, but still not completely satisfied. It's supposed to be the same cut I already had, I don't think it turned out the same though. Oh well, it's just hair and it will grow back.

Ok, off to the laundry now:s: Talk to y'all later.

Sef, that recipe you told Pancho about sounds good. I'll have to try that and see what the family thinks. I had to laugh at your post to Deb too.

Trish, I like to go camping, as long as I don't have to cook out there. When I was growing up we would go and have hot dogs and all the normal "cook out" foods. After I married I went with some of hubby's family and they expected the women to COOK like they did at home. I told them there was no way I was going to do that, it was supposed to be a vacation and cooking is still work. I haven't been back with them ever since.

COUNTRY- SNAP OUT OF IT!!:drill: I was in that "funk" last week. Thankfully, it only lasted a couple of days and I came to my senses. I realized I've come too far to backtrack. It's been too much effort and work to get to where I am now and the same applies to you, girl! Get rid of those cheetos and chips now and if you're craving the salty crunch, go out and get some Triscuits. Even if you eat way too many of them, you're getting back on track.

Okay, WIW- I'm back at my low of 178. I think this is the 3rd time I've been there:o I'm really going to aim at getting below this mark- my mini goal right now is 175. I'm skipping the exercise today though- my knees still feel a tad achy, so I don't want to injure myself and overdo it. Tomorrow I have my exercise class. Wonder if she will make us do the step again. Anyway, not much going on today. Staying at home doing the usual. I'm grilling hamburgers for supper and making a huge salad to go with it. I love my salads, I use egg, cheese, veggies and so forth in them. My challenge today will be trying to only eat one SF bun. I wish they would make the low carb buns like they do the bread(Nature's Own).

Hey All:wave:

Just got home. Didn't stay out all that long with KATHY, my yoga teacher. She was on a mission to find this pan at Linen's and Things that a friend of hers had bought, a Calphlon Pan, pretty darn big omlette pan that was half price off the special price of $29.99, meaning it was $14.99. THEN of course, I had a coupon for 20% off. Bought one for my DM for the holidays. Mgr. didn't want to take the coupon and of course, you don't mess around with 2 Jewish women and their coupons, esp. when there's no reason not to take them, nothing says it can't be used on sale or clearanced items, so he gave in-like butter!

I got MICHAEL'S senior pictures - OMG, they are so good! I'll have to scan them and post them, I'm so pleased with them!!!!:D Now to find some nice frames to display them. I have just 2 small pics of the kids hanging on a small wall in the kitchen, pics are old. I'm such a terrible mother! Will display these proudly.

Would you believe, when the gal got in to the office the message from the guy was on there saying the hearing was at 9am, and it was 9:05am already. So, didn't go, there sure wasn't time. He called and said the other person didn't show and that they would have the regular thing next month, when my parents got home. That's good as I didn't really want to get in to this since I really don't know all the ins and outs of it. It's a problem they are having with a painter.

JACKK made mention how the board is slow this week. I was going to post something next week in regards to this, but what the heck, since she mentioned it. This is the 4th Halloween to come about since the board has been in existence (April 2000). The week before Halloween, which is this week, til about the 3rd week of Janaury we see a dramatic drop in posts and people. It hasn't been different any year yet, though I always hope it to be. The downfall for many is during Halloween and seems to continue on through the remaining holidays. I think much of the mentality is that many of us seem to go off plan with all the candy that's around us and then we don't get right back OP and then all of a sudden Thanksgiving is near so we figure, why bother getting OP again when I'll just be off plan for TG and we play that over in our minds again as we get close to Xmas. Then comes New Years and we make our resolution to get back OP, but usually it takes a little time. Some of you will come back none worse for wear, some will come back with their tails between their legs and some will never come back. I find sometimes those who don't come back is because they are ashamed, which I just don't understand, esp. since we all go through the same thing, and others just find just fall so far off the wagon they blame this WOE for not working and just go and try to find another WOE that "works" when they've come to some senses they may have.

Many of you have been here year in and year out and I know you'll be here through the holidays. Those of you who haven't been with us through a holiday season I do hope we don't lose any of you and you'll find at least a couple minutes a week to check in if nothing else, to say hi and that you're still with us.

After the first of the year we have many returns and many new people and the board can get really crazy with new members and it's hard to keep up with people. Just remember that this is temporary as many of those who join us after the first of the year due to NY resolutions don't stay around. It's a resolution they make just for the sake of making it and usually it's not truly in their hearts to start a new WOE and they just don't stick around, so I really don't worry much about this when the board goes through this expansion, as it's temporary.

Anyhow, those of you who've been around for a while, you know I'll come hunt your arses down if you fail to come on the board, so be prepared if you think you're going in to hiatus during the holidays. :nono: Those of you who I don't have an e-mail for, that would be the only reason you're safe from hearing from me, but then, you miss any important e-mails I send out too!

So I hope you'll all make a commitment to stick with us through the holidays, no matter how far off plan you may happen to stray. Me, I'm here for the long haul and I have no choice but stay!

FILLISE, hope you and MONET get together this weekend!!!

CHRIS, did you at least have a good time at SW besides what you had to confess about? What was I saying to you in your mind as you were eating that crap food? I'm sure it didn't hurt you (much) since you did lots of walking and it's not something you are going to do on a regular basis.

PANCHO, can you imagine losing 100+ of those blocks of fat! When you actually have that visual right in front of you it makes a big impact. Find anything interesting at the HFS today? I'll let you know if I venture to make anything with those pie fillngs. I could probably make some type of crisp. I just want to make sure someone else will eat it besides me, but if it's good, that shouldn't be a problem and if it's bad, I shouldn't want to eat it either!

COUNTRY, as you can see above about that guy, didn't wait!

MONET, hope you and FILLISE can get together!!!

SEF, I'm sure you were as graceful as a swan!!! Ummm, who said I was going to be alone to drag your arse there? I have a whole possee ready to help out!!!:s:

TRISH, oh, I see now, if someone else throws down the dirt, you just decide to add to it, but not be the first to toss it out! You are too much! No idea what got in to you, how 'bout a burger and fries!!! LOL!!!! Camping sounds fun. I wouldn't do it when I was heavy but I'd do it now, that is, if there's no mosquitos AND it has to be cool.

JEC, I'm sure the new doo is adorable. Would love to see a picture;)

HEART, glad to hear you are back down to your low. To get below 175 is a major accomplishment and you are almost there. There's something about getting below 175 that just is an awesome feeling - try to stay focus so I can do a happy dance for you!!!

Well, I'm caught up, so it seems. If i missed anyone, it wasn't intentional. Will try to check in later!!!

[COLOR=Redorange]Hello Everybody,
Hoping everything is going great for ya. I've been busy and still not feeling my best. Still working on getting here more often. I know this is the key to my success and I want to lend my support the way you have lent yours in helping me. Has anyone been keeping up with Dr.Phil? I've been noticing that this WOE is catching on. I see articles in magazines and have seen a few tv shows talking about it and even our local news.

For those of you who seem to be stuck and the weight won't move no matter what you do, take a look a CLA and L- Carnitine. I have been using the CLA for months now, at my doctor's recommendation and it is absolutley vantastic. Take it and forget about it. Here's a little info on it.

Recently, the research has focused on clinical studies with much success;

Showing statistically significant reduction in body fat as measured by BMI (Body Mass Index).

A significant decrease measured in waistline measured in inches.

A positive result for weight loss in mildly overweight subjects.

An increase in strength.

Human clinical studies to substantiate improved body composition have been conducted worldwide. Positive results of CLA supplementation have been seen at research centers worldwide, such as:

Kent State University, University of Memphis, University of Wisconsin, USDA Western Human Research Center, Medstat Research Ltd. in Norway, Uppsala University in Sweden, University of Kumanoto in Japan and University of Tours in France

Here is info on Acetyl L-Carnitine

ACETYL-L-CARNITINE (ALC), 500 mg, 90 capsules
The most effective anti-aging therapy to maintain youthful cellular energy metabolism by taking Acetyl-L-Carnitine
Aging occurs when the energy producing components of the cell deteriorate, resulting in reduced cellular metabolic activity, the accumulation of cellular debris, and the eventual death of the cell.

The most effective antiaging therapy to maintain youthful cellular energy metabolism is the amino acid L-carnitine, which functions via several mechanisms to protect cells from the effects of aging.

Acetyl-L-carnitine is the acetylated ester of the amino acid L-carnitine. Acetyl-L-carnitine is absorbed into the bloodstream more efficiently than L-carnitine and, more importantly, acetyl-L-carnitine passes more effectively through cell membranes, and is utilized more efficiently in the mitochondria of the cell.

Acetyl-L-carnitine is sold as a drug in Europe at outrageously high prices. Europeans often use acetyl-L-carnitine to treat age related neurological dysfunction and/or congestive heart failure. Published studies indicate that long-term cognitive enhancing benefits can be attained by taking acetyl-L-carnitine for only several months.

Ward Dean, MD explains the benfits of taking Acetyl-L-Carnitine:
SUMMARY OF A-L-C RESEARCH FINDINGS

Hope this will help you as it did me.

Talk to ya later and have a really good nite.

Nun taxi:)
A cabbie picks up a Nun.
She gets into the cab, and the cab driver won't stop staring at her.
She asks him why is he staring.
He replies, "I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to offend you."
She answers, "My son, you cannot offend me. When you've been a Nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything.
I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive."
"Well," he says, "I've always had a fantasy to have a Nun kiss me."
She responds, "Well, let's see what we can do about that. #1, you have to be single, and #2, you must be Catholic."
The cab driver is very excited and says, "Yes, I am single; and I 'm Catholic, too!"
"OK," the Nun says. "Pull into the next alley."
He does and the Nun fulfills his fantasy with a kiss that would make a hooker blush.
But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.
"My dear child, said the nun, why are you crying?"
Sobbing, he says, "Forgive me Sister, but I have sinned. I lied. I must confess, I'm married and I'm Protestant."
The nun replies, "That's OK, my name is Kevin and I'm on my way to a Halloween party."

I definite got the right book "Eat Yourself Slim". Its the newer American version that was written in 1999 and apparently it is revised from the 1997 book. I am learning a lot already. What worries me is that I won't know what is a low GI food. The labels don't say anything. I'm gaining weight so I better start SB soon. No baby for two days so I am going to start reading.

Deb, I'll be around during the holidays. Hubby is wanting to take leave during TG, but they have their big inspection in Dec. so I'm kind of doubtful that he'll be able to take it, but then again they could surprise me and let him go. If they do it'll only be from Wed. thru Sun. I won't let him go before the kids are out of school because I refuse to stay here alone while he goes home, and I refuse to drive that trip by myself with 3 bratty kids.

BOB, She gave me celebrex for pain, and flexeril is the muscle relaxer. I haven't taken the muscle relaxer yet, waiting till bed time for that cause I got too much to do right now to be knocked out. I did take one of the celebrex and it has helped it alot. I can still feel a little pain from it, but it's not untolerable and I can still get some stuff done around this pig sty of a house before the inlaws get here tomorrow about this time. How's your right side doing? No, I haven't gotten a pic of the new doo yet, maybe I should grab Katie and have her take a shot right quick and post it, and I'll smile this time.

Hey Friends

Just popping in to say hello again. How are y'all doing? I'm doing good but my eating has been bad. Today I was at 276.5...which isn't bad considering last monday I was at 283. I know I should be lower but I've been eating. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day.

JACKIEO: Go girl with the manly man push-ups! I know now that I won't need a chaperone the next time we go to the quarter! You will be there to protect me! HAHA! I can't wait for the gathering over here either!! woo hoo!

DEB: I'll get with you about those dates.

FILLISE: I told hubby about your comment about the papers over there and what they were saying about our fans and his reply was "At least we don't go there and disrespect them by stomping on their logo in the middle of the field or practicing field goals while the band is performing!" Do you remember the incident from 2 years ago over here? Not good on Auburns part!

GATOR: I hear ya - there are turds in every stadium! HAHA! The nicest place I've ever been was Kentucky - they were so friendly!

Well, lemme run - I've got school work to do! Talk to y'all tomorrow!

Just got finished eating a BIG supper- definetly won't miss exercise class tomorrow.

DEB- I know what you mean about the Holidays. I turn into a real oinker. Last year I gained 8 #'s from TG to NY. But I still stayed on the board. I won't lie, I know that I will eat chocolate bars out of the kid's candy on Halloween. I know that I will endulge like crazy on TG and Xmas. BUT, I'm committed to this WOE, and will be back on track in between each of the holidays, lol. The reason I gained so much last year, is because I went off plan and pigged out for an entire month. Not about to do that much damage. I imagine my weight will go up a couple pounds then back down and up again, and back down- where by NY it will be about the same as it was the day before Thanksgiving, lol. But I agree, for those of you who fall off the wagon for awhile, don't be afraid to come back. You're only human, and we're not here to ridicule amyone- this is a support board.
Okay, I was just checking in, talk to you guys tomorrow. OH- Serena is scheduled for OHS at 7 am tomorrow. I'll let you guys know something as soon as I do.

I'll be here Deb. You all are my friends and I won't leave my friends. The only time I will not be online will be during Thanksgiving when I will be in NYC visiting my relatives. Unless I can charm my way into getting my Aunt's letting me use their PC's there is no way I can check in. Ah POO!!!

Re. being gone over the holidays, starting with Halloween--for the past several years we have not "done" Halloween. Often we are up in Jacksonville at the UF-Ga football game, so that takes care of it very nicely. If H. comes during the week, I just turn off all the lights, and read in my bedroom in the back of the house. That way I don't have to have any candy around to tempt me. We don't get many kids anyway.

I had to buy new running shoes today. I had my old ones over 6 months--probably about a year--and I felt the start of shin splints today when I was walking. So, I think this new pair will prevent the onset of that painful condition. I'll find out tomorrow morning, I guess.

Fruit--You think KY was the friendliest, I think USC. Notice that both those teams can win the "Miss Congeniality" prize, but they are nowhere in the running for the real prize. So, they can afford to be nice!

BOB--neat site. They must have taken the pictures long ago. My back yard looks different now, and there is a big dead tree in my back yard now that is not in that picture.
You must have KNOWN that UT would make the list of bad fans. They have the reputation of being vicious to opposing fans when UT wins. When UT loses, they are pretty tame.

Not been really "good" so far this week. When I lose nothing after being "good" it is very discouraging and I begin to think "what the heck." After a few days I hop back on plan, but I hate not seeing results.

Hi All...

Just wanted to pop in. Thank you to everyone who gave so much support about my job. I did read the post but was too swamped to reply. I should know something about my job by November. I'm feeling much better about everything.

I've still managed to keep eating right even though I am stressed. That may be the biggest break through since I am a notoriously emotional eater. I weighed 156 this morning. Depending on which goal I weight I decide to go with I either have 8 pounds or 16 to go. I'm in a 14 right now...I want to be a true 12 and then stop.

Hope everyone is doing well...

I just brought Pritkin chicken & rice soup. It has brown rice in it! And it apears legal. Expensive but legal. I just hope it tastes good. I have strep throat and my troat hurts :P

Good Thursday morning all:

I did get to Whole Foods yesterday, and nearly spent $200. I did have other stuff than groceries to buy. I bought a sinus allergy remedy, toothpaste, deodorant for dh and myself, and bought a lot of meats, which add up quickly.

Today, I hope to get to the gym while DD is in school. I usually go on Fridays, but will be helping out in dd's class for the full 3 hours tomorrow. Which means that Delaney will be in the care of someone else for 4 hours. She will be with one of the moms in my Mom's Club, but she doesn't know her very well. I hope she is good. This woman has two girls of her own. I'll keep my fingers crossed. It would be nice to have someone to trade off with every once in awhile.

Sef: You can't even really taste the zucchini in the bread, but it keeps it moist. It's like carrot cake or banana bread.

Trish: Not as an excuse......but when I met with a nutritiionist, he felt it was very important to give yourself a free day once a week. When I told him that I don't consider myself on a diet and I really don't feel deprived, he then said to at least let myself eat whatever I want on special occasions and/or holidays. He said that if you deprive your body, it will eventually backfire on you and you'll go overboard. I wouldn't want to do the free day once a week because I would probably undo all that I did for the week, but I do plan to on special occasions. Consider your day a free day and move on to have many on-plan days before you let yourself have another splurge. Have fun camping.

jecrites: I hope you got some sleep last night. When I wasn't eating carbs at all (when on Atkins), I would often have sliced zucchini (sliced the long way) topped with pasta/tomato sauce and mozz/parm cheese baked in the oven. It was really satisfying with a salad.

heart: I am soo happy that you are down to 178 again. If you keep up the exercising and eating well, I think you will see 175 really soon!

Deb: I can't wait to see Michael's pic when you post it. I cannot imagine losing 100 of those blocks of fat; that's hard to comprehend. Wow!! I did not find anything special at the HFS, just a lot of the usual....pot pies, Amy's pizza, chocolate, pasta, sauce, meats, 6 bottles of agave, fruits & veggies, nuts and basic groceries. I plan to stick around through the holidays; it will keep me grounded. I think we are all human and we will all have our downfalls throughout the next few months. As long as we can get on here and admit it and then move on, we will make it through the Holidays o.k. What are friends for anyway???!!!

agape: I took Carnitine Tartrate to accellerate my weight loss, and think that it definately helped. I still will take one capsule every 3 days or so since it is a good energy re-vitalizer. The acetyl l-carnitine is more for brain health and function than for wt. loss. Have a great day, and thanks for the info.

Mom: You will get it all figured out. There is a lot of info. but it really isn't as complicated as we try to make it. Always look at the sugar content in a food, and educate yourself of the g.i. on foods (like fruits & veggies) that it is not listed on. There are some definate no-no's like pineapple, watermelon, bananas, beets, raisins, etc..that you really want to steer clear of, but other than that, you can pretty much have whatever fruits & veggies you want. Eat whole grains instead of whites, and stay away from anything that has a listing of over 3g (I think the new guidelines say 5g), but I stay at 3g. I don't know if you mentioned that you bought the shopper's guide. It is very helpful and has allowed foods and forbidden foods listed in it. It is pocket-book size, so you can carry it with you. Glad to see your commitment to us and this way of eating so early on. Good luck to you throughout the holidays.

fruit: It's a new day!!

beach: Don't stop when you get to a 12, just allow yourself a little more freedom. BUT, keep an eye on it so it doesn't get away from you. I weigh everyday, and lay off when the numbers go up and ease up when they go/stay down. I will never "stop" because this way of eating is so healthy in the long run. Have a great day.

Well, better go....the kids are yelling for something!

Have a great day!

Today is a much better day. Amazing what one onslaught of Mr. Monthly can do to a person's mood. Now I know where the down and outs came from. :) Plus a couple of the extra pounds that have taken a hike. There are still a few there from bad eating and not moving. After Heartmom got after me I decided I better get straight....LOL Thanks Heart. No need for the wagon Bob...I have been a good girl ever since the cheeze nips yesterday. I may take the rest of this week off and start back walking next...or I might take the kids with me later for a more casual walk. They love when they get to come with. Sometimes they have running contest or find things along the path.

Deb...WTG on the bargins. I woulda insisted he take the coupon also. Gotta LOVE a good bargin.

Beach....how tall are you? You will be to goal before you know it.

Gator...we don't celebrate Halloween either. I buy the kids one bag of candy and they are happy. :) Every now and then they beg to treak or treat but since I always say no they know.

Fruit....wtg on losing the pounds.

I'm a slow poke this morning and need to get moving. Have a super day!

Love and hugs,

Hello y'all.

Well that med the doc gave me is working pretty good. I didn't wake up every time I turned over last night, AND I've done quite a bit of cleaning this morning without hurting. The house is almost presentable to the inlaws, or whoever else was to walk in.

I did good on eating yesterday, everything legal and not even a bite of the SF ice cream bar in the freezer! Don't know how I managed that. Gotta figure something out for tonight's supper though. The inlaws should be here for supper, and that kind of makes it hard to decide what to fix, not that they are picky, but I just never get any input from anyone else.

I'm off to work on some more darn laundry, just wanted to pop in and say hi. I'll talk to y'all later.

Hey guys! Just wanted to check in real quick...not much going on here. I will be in all day cleaning and doing laundry...want to get all that done before the weekend. Trying to figure out what dinner will be tonight...maybe Taco salads...will have to see whats in the freezer.

PANCHO - Thanks for the encouraging words! :)

COUNTRY - Nope, certainly didnt enjoy it...I was feeling to guilty to enjoy it...see what you guys do to me! :)

BOB - When I worked in Tampa, I had a Fresh Market right around the corner from me. I went in there a few times..the first time I went I came home with Artichokes the size of a large grapefruit...it was great! I live in Port Richey, just north of Tampa.

DEB - Yes I did have fun at Sea World. DOminic really loved it. What a rip off though...cost us $110 just to walk through the door...plus they have the nerve to charge $7 for parking...at least Dominic was free.
well as far as getting off track for the holidays...I wont be. I will have my cheat on Thanksgiving day and thats it until Christmas. I cant, Ive worked way to hard these last few months. I hope everyone else doesnt leave either...all I know is that I need you guys to be here...this board is what keeps me on track. Just like at Sea World, I couldnt even enjoy my cheat because of you! lol. And you dont want to know what you were saying in my head as the mound of french fries were going in my mouth...and I didnt just stop at what was on my plate, I ate some of DH's also. They had the best seasoning on them.

Well I gotta get in the shower...have a good day all!

Hi,

Debbie’s Mom and Dad had pictures of Debbie and the group which they shared with us when we got together. People...let me tell you, she looked wonderful with her long skirt with the split and her hair down and all fixed. The kids and Eli were also in the pics and of course looked great.

Someone may have already mentioned this but has anyone tried the ONE-A-Day Weight Smart Vitamins?

Debbie: Hi, I’m here, just running around, busy, as usual. Thank you so much for your kind words about Ray and me in your message to SuperDave. I bet he is confused about the NC location by my name....I’ll explain it to him. Ray and I had such a nice visit with your folks. Talk about staying busy all the time. I couldn’t keep up with their schedule. Your mother almost talked me into trying garage sailing with her. Your dad was so precious saying he thought I looked like I had lost weight since our last visit....think I’ll keep him.

Trish: Suitcase?....Extra suitcase? We will need to talk about items needed to include in my suitcase for the New Orleans visit. You will help this time, right? You saw I can be a disaster in the making. Actually, since our trip to Fl last Feb. I have been improving on my packing skills. There was hardly anyway to go but up! I looked on the Southwest website and the low fares are “unavailable” for the dates I put in for around MG, now what’s up with that? Have you put any trial dates in from Austin?

SuperDave: I will be returning to Dallas in November. My husband and I get to live in Western North Carolina part of the year but return to Texas for the holidays and winter months.

BOB: I thought of you last week when we made a trip to Highlands via Franklin and passed the Dry Falls area. It was such a pretty drive and we enjoyed touring Highlands. There is a restaurant there that has the perfect lunch for me made with a WW flour wrap around a chicken filling and homemade sweet potato chips...yum!

Monet: We will be returning to Dallas the second weekend in November but will be whizzing through Atlanta on the way to spend the night in Birmingham. I will hate missing you and your DH. We usually stop in Atlanta on the return trip in the spring, though. It would be our time to treat you two since you provided that fab meal the last time we came through. Did I see that you were going to New Orleans?

Fruit: You and your husband are wonderful to consider sponsoring a SB get together!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Wow--Deb's right the board has really slowed down this week. I know I've contributed to that. This is my third fall on the board and she's right--it does slow down about now and then it's everyone for themselves in January! I say we stay on throught the holidays--come what may!

I will be attending a conference in Birmingham on haloween--so no candy tempations for me here I won't even bring the stuff into my house. Besides I celebrate Haloween everyday with my little black kitty cat with the big yellow eyes!

Today is busy--but so far none of it seems to be with work for which I will get paid (except for my class this morning). When you work for yourself and you bill by the hour--you really take on a different view of time!

Yellow--Are you looking forward to returning to Texas? It seems like you spend more of your time in NC! I hear the leaves up there are pretty this year.

Chris--I wish we had a fresh market! When I visit relatives in Greensboro NC I go and stock up on things I can't get elsewhere. But I am getting ready to call Monet to see if we can visit Harry's tomorrow.

Jecrites--glad the meds are working!!!!!

Country--I HATE MR. monthly!!!! Mine's due next week and I know it means 2-3 days of sheer torture and 7-8 of just plain uncomfortable. I need to get the results of my echocardiogram so I can schedule the spaying!!!!! I'm calling the Dr. as soon as I finish this!

Nat--sounds like you are doing well! I'm going to have to look into that stuff--are there any side effects?

Cherlyco--I suspect the south beach book is definatly worth reading! You can always benefit from learning soemthing new--or simply from just a renewed sense of determination from reading about the health benefits. Hmmmm, It's always helped me to reread SB when I get off course and I bet I haven't picked it up for more than a year. I think I've picked out my weekend reading!

Anna--good to hear from you! I was thinking that next weekend while I'm in B-ham I might spend some time at the Summit and/or the Galleria. Are you interested in trying to meet up?

Gator--I tried the website too and didn't recognize anything! The photo was taken 5 years ago, and I was living here--oh well! It looked kinda neat though!

Mom2jared--use that alone time well girlfriend!!!!

Heart--Honesty goes a long way!!!!! I know I won't be perfect over Christmas either! Thanksgiving isn't so bad for me. Turkey is fine and I make oyster dresing out of WW bread. I cook the T-giving dinner for my family so it's my way or the highway. I do bake 6 or seven pies, but I always make a legal Apple pie for me and I don't feel deprived. This year I'de like to try a pecan pie made with Agave--anyone have a recipe?

Missy--Oh yeah--I remember that stomping incident! WE got stomped that game too I believe. But I passed on my DB's compliment about your fans too!!! I've not dealt with any rude visiting fans and I always try to be as nice as I can with visitors. But I know some of our folks are real a**holes!

BOB--Glad to hear that you will be pulling for LSU!:s:

Monet--I'm going to try to call you later today--so far I've kept my schedule clear for tomorrow so it's looking good!!!!!

Deb--Can't wait to see those pics of Michael!

Have a great OP day everyone!

Sorry I couldn't get on yesterday. They were putting new carpet in my office (which is a mess and they have to re-do the whole thing again next week) UGH! but didn't get my computer back until 5:00. Don't have much time to respond to posts. I skimmed quickly and need to make just a couple comments.

Bunco went fine. I ran home and made the peach cobbler I think Fillise posted so I would have something for me. Three people actually requested it over the 2 pies I had. Finished it off for breakfast today. Just pinched a bite off the pies just to see if they were any good. Brought the choc/pecan to the girl at work and left the apple caramel for DH.

Deb, I'm here for the long haul.

Country, CHeese nips. I miss them so. I actually bought a box for bunco (the hot an spciy ones!) knowing that I couldn;t resist them. Have have some, but I think I need to get rid of them. Hang in there, you will be fine or I will drive you crazy until you are.

Ashley,(aka Rocky) Awesome on the 3 lbs. 20 push ups. Wow You are the MAN!

Heart, congrats on getting to 178 again, now get on down to 175. Prayers for your friend's daughter.

Monet, have a good day at work, even though you are dreading it.

BOb, me watch TV all day. I'm not a tv watcher.

Fruit, Am I gonna have to visit with you again. No get back on track. Lookhow good you were doing.

Gator, Now I take offense to that comment. I guess we "losers" down here in Ky have a different idea of the big prize. Us hillbillies are just nice to everyone.

Cherylco, hope you feel better soon.

I had more to say but didn't take notes and this old mind of mine just can't remember anything else. Ned to get this office back together. Hope to be back later.

Have a great day.

Jackie.

Hi, there everybody. Whew, this week's almost over. In exactly 6 weeks, I'll be in San Diego hugging my new Marine son!!! Can't wait.

Well, I'm not sure if the camping trip is on or off. We're having problems finding a campsite (nothing like waiting until the last minute) and it's supposed to rain this week-end. Let me tell you right now, if it's raining, this chickie is not going to be out there in the mud and the muck. They will just have to have fun without me.

Eating yesterday was much better. Had salad with BBQ chicken for lunch, no sauce and chiliburgers for dinner. Today we went to a Chinese buffet place for lunch, but I don't think I did too bad. I'm sure the soup had some cornstarch in it, but this place makes everything really fresh. They even have salads. I stayed away from the sweet sauces. My favorite is the Korean bbq and they have these little grilled chicken kabobs. I forget what they're called.

A friend at work has the South Beach book. I glanced at it and it sure looks like Sugarbusters to me. It does have some really good looking recipes in it though, that might be worth the cost of admission.

Gotta run. Trying to find more info on the fire where my baby is. Just hope he didn't start it, LOL. Boy, I bet that would really endear him to the DI's.

Talk to ya'll soon.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for MIA. Since my trip to Panama City Beach, we had our landscape done (basic) so we have been busy with guys coming in and out of our yard. When they were done, dh and I started to plant some flowers, shrubs and accent grass to make the yard more complete, although we still have lots to do.

Back to my trip to the beach. It was fabulous!! It was off-season so we get good rates and less crowd. DD, Jessica really loved the water although she was slightly fearful of the waves. She loved the pool more since she was more familiar with that. I was so glad that she made some little friends on the beach and did spend sometime making sandcastle with them. We made sure we had a room with oceanfront view and it was sooo beautiful. Dh actually said that he wants to go back soon...maybe in few weeks since he has 3 days off. Well, I don't know it that is going to happen but I want to at least go away, even if it is closeby. Dh is usually very busy so I better take the chance to "leave" when we can. I absolutely love the family time the 3 of us get to spend together and I can tell Jess was too.

We took Jess to Gulf World to see some animals. dolphin and parrot shows. It was fun especially watching the dolphins.

I didn't cheat too badly as I thought I would :D Since we had access to good seafood, we just packed ourselves with lotsa seafood. I asked to change the potatoes to veges and at one meal, I actually keep the small side dish of rice. I did eat half of the small bread before the meal. I love seafood, so it was absolutely heavenly for me.

The last few nights, dh and I went to church to listen to a special speaker and we had an absolute wonderful time. Now, we are back to our usual routine so I can safely say, I am back...

Debbie, for your info, dh is working on all coming holidays so I am going nowhere. Hope you all won't get sick of me then...

Oh, btw, since started SB, I have discovered that I actually like baked sweet potatoes. Before this, I didn't make it at all at home but now, I make it at least once a week. I sprinkle it with cinnamom and sneak in some butter. It is fantastic! I bought the white basmati rice a week ago and love it. Thanks for those we suggested it to me. :cp: Now, I think I will give away some of my jasmine rice to my new neighbor. She discovered Jasmine rice last week when I brought her dinner (when she moved in) and she and her dh said they like it a lot. So, at least I know my jasmine rice will be in good home..... Okay, I am nuts over my jasmine rice...

Alright, I think I better quit babbling now and get back to my dd. I think she is up to something.

Good day everyone!

I pledge that I will not drop out of site and desert my friends, on this board and check in once a week. I will not allow excuses to break this pledge, unless I go on vacation, or leave town, get sick, go in hospital and can not get to a website to check in while on these endeavors. The reason I make this pledge, is giving or receiving help from you is serious commitment and I am serious about losing weight and will become a winner along with you. I want to be a pledged person on this woe.
So deb when you rate me as a junior, senior member or whatever add pledged to it.

Now how many have my friends on this board will make this pledge with me, or is this too serious of an idea.

GOOD EARLY EVENING TO Y'ALL!!

Another beautiful day here on the W Coast of FLA....just heard the weatherman say that we won't be seeing anymore 90degree
days until spring! :bravo:

I'm only doing a "drive by" with y'all tonight...got some things to do before the piano is delivered tomorrow...

I bought the SOUTH BEACH book, and it's definately a good read.
Yes, I agree, the first two weeks are like Atkins, and then it's a full swing into SUGAR BUSTERS...BUT....I like the book because the DOC who wrote it talks to us common people in words that we all understand. MY ADVICE???? Get it if you can...

Sorry to not get to each of you, but I'll be baccccccccccccck!!!!

Back from the Docs. Good news and bad news. The good news is that my HGA1c which is the test for diabetics was 6.2 and 6 is considered in the non-diabetic range. My Doc was very happy about that. The bad news is that my LDL cholesterol was 163 and 100 is considered normal. The HDL good cholesterol was 263 and the Doc wasn't too concerned about that. Im taking Lipitor so now the Doc had to increase the Lipitor from 10 mg to 20mg. I was hoping to get off that med but Doc said no way and to watch my diet.

Not only do I have to watch my carbs and sugars, now I have to watch the cholesterol as well. I can't figure out what I'm eating that would cause the high numbers. I stopped eating eggs weeks ago and don't eat much red meat except for grilled chicken breasts. The only thing that I can think of is maybe the cheesesticks I have been snacking on. They do have 15g of cholesterol per stick but I don't know if that is enough to cause my numbers to be high.

Oh Poo!!!

Jack-K-- LOL. You have a good point there re. the football "prize." I've been to the UF-UK game there in Ky and I agree that everyone was very nice. We walked to the stadium from downtown and it was quite a hike. Someone (a UK fan) offered us a ride halfway there and it was much appreciated.
However--just put that "Miss Congeniality" shoe on the basketball foot, and you have a different story. The UK fans are much more "intense" regarding roundball, and I can see why. No more "Mr. Nice Guy," even if Bball is not quite the be-all and end-all like football is in the south. UK is the crčme de la crčme in basketball and I equate their history with that of Bama's in regards to national championships. After Tubby Smith leaves, which probably won't be anytime soon, as he is an excellent coach, I know UK might be eyeing Billy D. We have BB tickets for all the home games and we usually make the trek up to G'ville for the UK game. It always is exciting.

Got my walk in today. My new shoes did just great. No shin splints.

HiedieHo All!

Anotheer nice day. Today was a NH day, first to the usual one in the morning and then to another in the afternoon to entertain.

Shoulder still sore. Hip feels better until I get rambunctious. Am OP.

TRISH: Did enough camping as a GS and GS leader. I want ROOM SERVICE! If I have to cook what kind of change of pace is it for me? Just a different venue.

JES: See above note. That zucchini is so good, we love it. The best part it's so easy! I take 2 Celebrex a day for arthritis flare-ups and one a day when I am in my normal arthritis zone. It has helped better than anything else.

DEB: That poor Mgr. He didn't stand a chance!! More like the ugly duckling!! You'll need a posse! I should be here for holidays unless DD deigns to invite me.

AGAPE: Is the CLA an OTC product, or HFS?

BOB: What do you expect to do to me with a bum shoulder and the other one getting bad? Hope you feel better. No fun! You're sense of humor is great. Thanx for sending the jokes my NH groups love them.

FRUIT: If you see a pretty, tall blond with a 10' purple/gold scarf wound around her neck at any of the games, that's my GD! Of course there are probably a dozen girls like that. Since it's handmade her scarf may be a little different than others.

Pulled casserole out of freezer for supper. I still haven't eaten and am hungry. I was tired and took a too long nap and felt out of whack. But checking the board has restorede me!

Take care, Shirley

Hello gang--

I just have time for a few words. Been really busy trying to get my yard ready for winter.....cold freeze is due here this weekend.

Eating has been good, and have jumped on to post exercise daily so I won't forget. WTG to all the losers this week. I am at the same weight, so won't complain.

Have also been out hunting everyday with dh. Still haven't gotten our deer yet. First season ends tomorrow for a week while Elk season opens, then late buck opens for another couple weeks. Dh will go Elk hunting in between times. But I am not into that one!

Been baking some too. Thank you stuff for people who have let us hunt on their property, and those who let me go in and pick fruit from their trees!

Hope everyone is doing wonderful, and know that I am still thinking of you all. Have a great week end and hope to be with you all again soon!

Just dropping in for a quick hello. I am waiting to hear from Fillise. If she doesn't call pretty soon, I will call her. I was at a meeting last night when she called and told Tom she was coming over! Hooray! Can't wait to see her!

I spent an hour going through stacks of old mail that had piled up. Found my Visa bill...grrr...it was two days late! I hate that! I have no excuse, since I usually call in the payment. No stamps! I love it!

I had a meeting last night and fixed dinner for everyone. We had beef and broccoli stir fry, potstickers, pon pon chicken, and rice. I did not eat any rice, but I did have a couple potstickers. The rest was totally legal. The cookies are gone, and I still have not ventured to open up the ice cream. Unfortunately, the metal monster is not being kind. I was up two pounds yesterday.

I am off to call Fillise! Later!

Good Friday morning,

Another week gone. It will be Christmas before we blink an eye.
I guess that is a sign of old age. Times goes by quicker.

We are babysitting DD's dog. I should say spoiling it. DH is in heaven. He holds it all the time.It has more room in my bed than I do. It has cramped my mornings though, I've been running late all week with fooling with it.

No big plans for the weekend, except a baptism of my great nephew on Sunday. My niece called last night and asked DH to be the godfather. Don't know what's up with that.

Get our new glasses tomorrow. Can't wait to see again. There was a drastic change in the close-up so maybe I won't have so many typos come Monday.

Kengjw, welcome back. Sounds like you had a wonderful time,

Dave, I'll take that pledge.

Mom, I believe a lot of cholesterol problems are hereidty. I ate fried foods all my life and mine is very low. I eat a dozens eggs a week and it doesn't bother me. Go figure.

Gator, I will say one thing for UK football fans, no matter how bad we are, we still pack that stadium each week. That's loyalty. Yes BB is a little different. I would love to have Billy here. Not much of a Tubby fan. I know he is good, but I guess I never got over Rick leaving us for UL. Unfortunately BB tickets are hard to come by. I'm gonna have to scout around real hard this year to at least get to one game.

Sef, the celebrex works good for me too. I'm supposed to take 2 a day but usually only take one unless I'm hurting. Don't get to rambunctious until that hip feels better. Take it easy.

Teensy, hope you get that deer. I can't beleive you actually get out there and hunt.

Monet, have fun with Fillise. How cool you all can get together frequently.

Have a great day. Be back later.

Hey Everybody! Not too much new to report over here. I have been swamped with paperwork lately, because we switched to a new system. Why do we fix what's not broke???? Anyway, I am happy to report that I have been on plan all week (minus the handful of Cheese Nips that found their way to my house....I think they were floating around this board!!). No big plans for the weekend. I am house-sitting for a friend, so I will kick back and enjoy her cool stuff (lots of fabulous art work there).

JackK- Hope you get some space in the bed, between your husband and the dog. That is nice that your husband was asked to be the godfather of your niece's baby. However, I find it a bit strange that she just asked a few days before the baptism. Doesn't give you much time to prepare. Maybe she figured that you both did such a good job raising your children, that she could trust you with hers (if something should happen). Either way it is a nice gesture.

Monet- Same thing happened this month with my American express. Here's hoping we don't get the dreaded late fees.

Teensy- I am quite impressed with your hunting ability. That is really a nice gesture to go out there with your husband , since he cares a lot about hunting. You couldn't pay me enough money to stand in the woods and be quiet. Quiet is definitely not my strong suit.

Sef- Hope your shoulder feels better soon.

gatorGal- good for you getting your walk in!!!!!

Mom2jared- I agree that cholesterol is mostly a genetic predisposition. However, cutting out the sugars, limiting the carbs and exercise can greatly decrease it. Good Luck.

BOB- I read the south Beach book and did the first 2 weeks of Phase 1 to move me off my plateau. It did move me, however, I don't know if it can be attributed to South Beach, or me just stopping putting anything brown (rice, pasta, etc) in my mouth. I was seriously overdosing on the carbs. I thought if it was legal it was unlimited!!!What movies are you watching this weekend?

SuperDave- I will take the pledge, as well. How have you been feeling?

Everyone else, have a great day and an even better weekend. I will check in later!

Hi Everyone,

I weighed this morning after staying off the scales for a few weeks. It was not a pretty sight. I always know when things are not going well and I stay off the scale in denial.. Now, I know for some it is better to weigh once a week but I have things more in control if I weigh once a day. I am going to make myself do that for awhile and get things more under control. After the weigh in I was going to be very strict, then, my DH said he wanted to take a fall color drive and stop at a new place for lunch and maybe stay out for dinner at either Carrabba’s or Outback. Now, I will be more watchful than I have been recently but I have more control at home. (I only eat things that are on program but the fat and extra carbs plus wine are starting to show.)Tomorrow is another day to try. While we are out, I will grocery store and get some on program things and snacks to replace those Spelt sesame sticks that have been my downfall lately. We live about 35 minutes from the nearest grocery store, so, I need to plan ahead.

Fillise: I hate to leave my wonderful Tree House in NC but it is nice in Dallas also. Our life in Dallas is so totally different with the big city cosmopolitan attitudes and traffic. It is a very quiet life here and I feel like I turn into an earth- mama with my gardening, no make up and canning. In Dallas we have time to visit our friends and family, go see movies, go out to dinner, have manicures, etc. So, there are advantages to both places. Oh, the leaf color has been great this year. Right now, I am looking out my back window and the floor of the forest is covered in peach colored leaves and I can see almost to the top of the hill. I don’t quite get this view in Dallas.

Pancho: Please tell me more about the Amy’s Pizza you found at the HFS.

Trish: I have the South Beach Diet Book and it does have some really good recipes. There is a cilantro mayo recipe that I have tried and it is a keeper.

Monet: YUM! Broccoli and beef stir fry sounds really great.

Sef: Did I see that you gave Teensybean a recipe for sauerkraut? I would love to have it also.

Okay, off to get ready for the big drive to see fall color.

Good Friday morning:

I am going to be volunteering in Britt's class today, so Lane will be staying with a mom in my MOM's Club. I really hope she is good.

Last night during dinner, Britt (my 5 1/2 year old) grabbed her chest on the left side, and said, "OW!" She said it about 3 times and started to cry. She has had esophagus problems in the past, but that hurts her in the middle of her chest. This was a stabbing pain to her left side of her chest. It came and went quickly and she didn't have any other symptoms. My DH said that it has happened to him before and it's nothing, but we will keep an eye on it. It scared the crap out of me. It was like she was having a heart attack; so much like it that if she were an older person, I would have given her aspirin and called 911. It was very scary! I am going to put in a call to the pediatrician today just to make mention of it and see what they have to say. If anything happened to my child, they'd have to lock me up somewhere.

Anyway...I have been eating pretty good, with a few little splurges here and there, but overall good! I saw my mom yesterday and she told me that I didnt' have to lose anymore weight. I told her that my goal now is to tone up, and build up my muscle tone. I will continue to eat this way though, and if I lose a pound or two in the process...oh well. I don't want to get much below 120, but I don't want to ever go over 125 again. That gives me a 5# window to play with.

Fillise: I believe you asked me about the Carnitine. There is a book called The Carnitine Miracle by Robert Crayhon. It is worth checking out and reading. Carnitine is referred to as a Super-nutrient, and can help with a multitude of things. Carnitine is something our body naturally produces which gives us energy, but we tend to lose it as we age. I think it is considered an amino acid though and they say those are best to take a month or two on and then a month or two off.

Country: Glad you feel that you are back on track and had a better day!!

jecrites: Glad you got some needed sleep.

Yellow: I tried those vitamins once but couldn't take them due to the iron in them; they upset my stomach too much. I get my vitamins with little/no iron. I also weigh everyday; it really helps keep me in line. I'm afraid if I weighed once a week at this point, my weight could easily get out of hand. Enjoy your fall drive...it sounds heavenly. We hope to go up north in a few weeks to do the same. It hasn't been cold enough around here to turn the leaves yet. As far as the pizza, I got one that is a Pesto pizza and one that is mushroom and black olives. I took the ingredients and nutritional info. off of one to post here for you. The ingredients are: (Everything is organic, so I'm not going to put that in front of every ingredient....wheat flour, oat bran, wheat germ, skim mozz, tom, m-rooms, black olives, extr virg olive oil, honey, sea salt, red onion, evap cane juice, yeast, garlic, spices. As you can see there is honey and cane juice, but only in small amounts. A serving size is 1/3 pizza, and only has 3g sugar per serving. Calories are 250, fat 9 grams. I love this pizza, and it is a nice treat when you are craving pizza. They have other flavors as well, but I love the pesto and the mushroom and black olive.

Ken: Glad you enjoyed your time away. It sounds as if you had a lot of fun, and those trips really make the memories for the little ones.

Dave: Glad to see your commitment to us here and to this woe/wol. I pledge to be here throughout the holidays as well; maybe not every single day as things get busy...but I will be around plenty.

Mom: Glad your HGA1c came back close to range, but sorry to hear about the cholesterol. I truly think some of that is genetic and no matter how hard you try to change it, you may not be able to totally get those numbers where you want them. My mom has high cholesterol and it runs in her family. NO matter what she does, it doesn't fluctuate much. Do the best you can!!

Jack: Enjoy the baptism, and that little dog (it is little isn't it)? Our dog (40#'s) sleeps with us and has since she was a puppy (she is 8 years old now). As much as I love her, we will never get into that habit with another dog again. We have another dog now, and we let her sleep on the couch at night. BUT, I want my leg room when I am in bed. It's tough enough to share "our" king sized bed with my DH...I like to spread out:lol: .

Well, I hope to hop on later today. The weekend will be busy. We are heading up north tomorrow to go to a pumpkim festival and let Britt pick a pumpkin out of the field. They have face painting, crafts, food, rides, etc.....It should be a lot of fun. Monday is DH birthday, so we will probably celebrate that on Sunday.

Have a great OP day!!

Nat- I hope Britt is Ok. That must have been scary. Sometimes a sharp pain like that can be plurises (I know the spelling is wrong). I used to get that when I had a bad cold. Anyway, she is in my prayers.-Ashley

Ashley, I didn't get the whole story, but I think my niece asked her DH's brother and he backed out yesterday for some strange reason. I thought she would have asked one of her 2 cousins since they are young, but I'm not sure if they can make it to the baptism or not. You would be laughing the whole time you were in the woods. You wouldn't have to worry about any deer.

Yellow, sounds like you have agood plan worked out. Enjoy yur day out.

Pancho, the pain could also have been gas. Sometimes if you get it caught in your chest cavity it feels like a heart attack. Hope it's nothing serious. The dog is a beagle about 25 lbs.

Good Afternoon everyone,
I've been busy this week and haven't had a chance to post, so will try to make up for it now.
We had a family party Monday night, chinese food, I stayed away from the rice, the rest was pretty legal. Tuesday and Wednesday were good too. The scale was pretty good to me, down another 1/2 pound, to 227. I also walked on the treadmill Wed afternoon. We had leftovers Thursday night after I got back from the gym. Not sure what we're doing tonight yet, but I'm off to the gym to sweat off some more tonnage!
Went to a Weekenders presentation Tues night, they have some really nice clothes! And got talked into co-hosting a PartyLite party(which I always like to do this time of year). All in all, it;s been a good week. Had venison and onions for lunch, the guys brought all the stuff in and cooked it, Yummy!
Have a great day everyone!

It's a wonderful day so far. Most of my chores are done. I have a brisket in the oven that should be done in about an hour for dinner. That way the kitchen can cool down before time to cook the rest of dinner. We are having recode temps again today.

The scales were very kind to me this morning. Praise God the water weight is gone..at least for now. Back to normal. A day or two of being up doesn't bother me too bad...but a week...yeah I get worried. :)

Dave I'm with on sticking to the board. I did last year and it helped a lot. A made a little graphic I'll attach at the bottom. Hopefully it's not too girly...LOL The butterflies are in honor of Gator.

Poncho...praying all is okay with your little girl.

Teensy...I hope you have a great hunt. Warning this part might gross ya out. This year Papa Sonny killed his first hogs. Well, my husband is the only one that knows how to skin and clean them. So he showed me how to help skin. I also opened one but told him there was no way my hands were going in there...LOL But he was glad for the extra hands.

Jack-K...how is your back doing? Your's daughter pup is gonna be ruint..LOL

JakcieO...aint it funny we all like those cheeze nips...I think there are additives in them to make us crave them...LOL :D

Gotta scoot...time to check on the brisket.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

HERE'S MY FRIDAY FUNNY!!!!

A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, "What are all those clocks?"

St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move."

"Oh," said the man, "whose clock is that?" "That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."

"Incredible," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?" St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life."

"Where's Bush's clock?" asked the man.

"Bush's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."

I snuck out early this afternoon...it's absolutely beautiful here today, and thought I would make some use of it! Got home just as the piano movers were pulling in the driveway. Of course, Jeff forgot to put the bench on the truck, so I'll end up having to go over and pick that up. Looks really good where I had them put it.

Got a call from the DUNGEON MISTRESS last night, and she was ...as usual .....on the road! On her way home and wanted to check with me about the SURVIVOR episode. She said to tell everyone that she might not be on the board this weekend because of the party and such...BUT if she can...she will be here!

Got the MOVIE PICKS for the weekend, and here they are:

RUNS IN THE FAMILY (the new flick with Michael, Kirk adn Cameron Douglas)

TREMBLING BEFORE GOD

Testing...

heartmom
10-24-2003, 05:00 PM
Just testing because I had this huge post last night and lost it due to error or whatever. ANyway, not much going on, went to my exercise class and it was good, not as much aerobics as usual, but she mixed it up with strength training and the step. Since she did the step at the beginning of my workout, it made my knees hurt. One of the girls said I had too much energy, can u imagine? It made me feel good considering I feel like I'm giving my all to keep up with the instructor. I was starving by the time I got home and at 2 big bowls of chili topped with cheese! The scales are still at 178. Got up and did my 3 mile tape this morning and got it outta the way. Oh, got some bargains yesterday. The thrift stores were having a sale, got 2pairs of winnie the pooh toe socks for .25 a pair, a Pooh summer PJ set for .50, photo album for 1.25, Winnie the Pooh xmas cards for .50(can u tell I like Pooh?), got Ashley a pretty pink striped turtleneck for .50, Robby a polo style shirt for $1, got Boogie a pair of Rugrat overalls for next summer for .50, and a Gap pair for .25, a nice sweater for .75, and the deal was an Oshkosh(very thick) coat for $2 in great shape, also got Spunky a doggie sweater for .25. Then I went to Walmart with my grandmother and outta the clearance isle I got a Tonka junior set that comes with 2 trucks and a book for $2.50, got Ashley a Ken barbie doll for $3, and some string doodad thingy majiggy(she'll like it) for $2. So I ended up getting everything for 17 dollars, cool. The presents from Walmart go towards Xmas. Okay, I didn't know it was this late, have to go...OH- wanted to let you know that Serena pulled thru her surgery just fine. Please continue to pray that no complications arise. Thanks.

HiedieHo All!

Did not sleep well lat night and as a result over-slept this a.m. Would have been too late for class, so stayed home. I did do wash, Windexed everything and what I didn't Windex, I Pledged. Tomorrow will vacuum and do the bathroom. Cannot do everything all at once. All the talk about cream soups made me hungry for a change of cooking. So I made chicken w/ cream of mushroom and added mushrooms. Yummy.

Sad thing happened. Remember I went to a Habitat groundbreaking two weeks ago. The house was for a lay and her two grandchildren (more and more grandparents are again acting as parents), Thursday her grandkids came home from school and found her dead. There was no apparent cause of death. She was so happy to at last be able to afford a house and it would be near her brother's and his family. Sometimes we forget how short life can be.

PANCHO: Hope DD is okay. What did pediatrician have to say?

YELLOW: Will post sauerkraut tomorrow. Will have to look up the right amount of salt.

DAVE: I'm with you too.

Now then I have not posted a FF in a while. Let me be the first with Christmas!

THE PEARLY GATES

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

"In honor of this holy season," Saint Peter said, "you must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter._ He flicked it on. It represents a candle, he said.

You may pass through the pearly gates Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, "They're bells" .

Saint Peter said you may pass through the pearly gates.

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, "And Just what do those symbolize?"

The man replied, "They're Carols".

One day, while fishing under the I-10 Bridge in The Atchafalaya Basin, Boudreaux made a confession. "We all been friends for tirty year and been tru a lot. I never told ya'll dis befo 'cause I don't wanna ruin our friendship, but I'm gay."

Fontenot looked over at Thibodeaux and say, "We kinda figured dat out a while back, but wadn't gonna say nuttin' 'cause we didn't wanna embarrass you".

Boudreaux thanked them for their understanding and continued, "Da reason I'm tollin' ya'll dis is 'cause I got AIDS and I got six munt to liv. Ya'll da only family I got lef and I want ya'll to promise me dat ya'll won't let dem bary me. I'm scared of dem caskets and I wanna be cremate. Den, I want ya'll to trow my ashes from dat bridge up dair into dis swamp where we've spent so much time together."

Fontenot and Thibodeaux wiped back a few tears, then agreed to do what their friend as asked.

Sho' nough, six munts later Beoudreaux died, and they were standing on the bridge with the ashes. Fontenot was about to throw them out when Thibodeaux stopped him: "Wait, you gotta say sumtin," he say.

"I donno what to say. I never was much about goin' to church" Fontenot admitted.

Thibodeaux, he scratch his head, "Just say somtin'....anyting. Make it rhyme."

Fontenot, he tought about it a while and started trowin' dem ashes out over da swamp and say, "Ashes to ashes, Dus to dus, if you liked women, You'd be here wit us."

Keep this in a safe place for future reference, then pass this to any senior you know._ Despite what you may have seen on the streets, the followingcombinations DO NOT go together:

A nose ring and bifocals

Spiked hair and bald spots

A pierced tongue and dentures

Miniskirts and support hose

Ankle bracelets and corn pads

Speedos and cellulite

A belly button ring and a gall bladder surgery scar

Unbuttoned disco shirts and a heart monitor

Midriff shirts and a midriff bulge

Bikinis and liver spots

Short shorts and varicose veins

In-line skates and a walker

But, otherwise, YOU'RE LOOKIN' GOOD !! !!!!!!!!

As the airliner pushed back from the gate, the flight attendant gave the passengers the usual information regarding seat belts, etc. Finally, she said, "Now sit back and enjoy your trip while your captain, Judith Campbell, and crew take you safely to your destination."

Joe sitting in the eighth row thought to himself, "Did I hear her right? Is the captain a woman?"

When the attendants came by with the drink cart, he said, "Did I understand you right? Is the captain a woman?"

"Yes," said the attendant, "In fact, this entire crew is female."

"My God," said Joe, "I'd better have two scotch and sodas. I don't know what to think of all those women up there in the cockpit."

"That's another thing sir," said the attendant, "We no longer call it the cock pit. Now it's the box office."

Harold is 95 and lives in a senior citizen home. Every night after dinner, Harold goes to a secluded garden behind the center to sit and ponder his accomplishments and long life.

One evening, Mildred, age 87, wanders into the garden. They begin to chat, and before they know it, several hours have passed. After a short lull in their conversation, Harold turns to Mildred and asks, "Do you know what I miss most of all?"

She asks, "What?"

"SEX!!" he replies.

Mildred exclaims, "Why you old fart, you couldn't get it up if I held gun to your head!"

"I know," Harold says, "but it would be nice if a woman could just hold it for a while."

"Well, I can oblige," says Mildred, who unzips his trousers, removes his manhood and proceeds to hold it. Afterward, they agree to meet secretly each night in the garden where they would sit and talk and Mildred would hold Harold's manhood. Then, one night, Harold didn't show up at their usual meeting place.

Alarmed, Mildred decided to find Harold and make sure he was O.K. She walked around the senior citizen home where she found him sitting by the pool with another female resident, Ethel, who was holding Harold's manhood!

Furious, Mildred yelled, "You two-timing creep! What does Ethel have that I don't have?"

Old Harold smiled happily and replied, "Parkinson's!"

Oh by the way, I tried the Pritkins chicken & rice soup...BARF! It was unbelievably weird tasting. Dog likes it.
I got the South Beach diet book. I sent my mom to Waldenbooks because she has the discount card. The book was $24, she got 15% off that because it was on sale plus 10% off with her card and she had a $10 & 5 dollar gift certificates. I ended up paying like $4.60 hee hee!

Anyway me and DD will start the 2 week induction the Monday after Halloween. I've go strep throat and don't feel like undertaking any new eating right now and she said might as well wail till after the candy holiday in case of chocolate overages

I am a bit late for Friday Funnies, but just got this and wanted to share it!

At one point during a game, the coach called one of his 7-year-old
baseball players aside and asked, "Do you understand what cooperation
is? What a team is?" The little boy nodded in the affirmative. "Do you
understand that what matters is whether we win or lose together as a
team?" The little boy nodded yes. "So," the coach continued, "I'm sure
you know, when an out is called, you shouldn't argue, curse, attack the
umpire, or call him a pecker-head. Do you understand all that?" Again
the little boy nodded. He continued, "And when I take you out of the
game so another boy gets a chance to play, it's not good sportsmanship
to call your coach 'a dumb jerk' is it?" Again the little boy nodded.
"Good," said the coach. "Now go over there and explain all that to your
mother."

Good Morning everyone! Fillise and I had a great visit. We went to Harry's where we both got fresh ground Wheat Montana flour, and wandered around checking things out. They still had a good supply of Agave on the shelf, for only $2.59 a bottle, so we both got some. My supply now is pretty impressive. :) We found some Scottish oat cakes that are legal. They were pretty good, but Fillise's idea of cream cheese and Polaner apricot on them made them REALLY good! After Harry's, we just came back here to my house and visited for a while before she had to take off for Auburn. Laura and I and perhaps a friend of Laura's, will probably head over to Auburn in a few weeks to see the campus, and will stay with Fillise. We will get to meet Miss Belle!
(Thanks, Fillise! )

Last night, we had a special service at church. The worship director had asked me to bring some desserts to serve. I did ok, except I did eat a half of a slice of chocolate cake, and a small sliver of cheesecake. I think my biggest mistake was that I had not eaten much of a dinner before we went, and so I was hungry. Next time, I hope to plan better.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Just checking-in. It has been a tough week- the back is still playing up and I an now almost looking forward to my appointment with the neurosurgeon on Nov 13th.

I also hit a wall as far as the weight is concerned over two weeks and not a pound lost. Luckily, the weigh-in this morning showed a 2 pound drop, which means a total of 37 so far! So, there is a bit of hope. Another 15 to reach my first (and probably last) goal of 199.

Posted a fish receipe on the other part of the board last week - found it on the back of a pack of frozen filets bought from Publix - really easy and tastes excellent.

I'll try to post weekly!

Bye for now, Grant

HI Everyone!

Late WIW LOL! Itˇ¦s 220# :) I have been OP all week, but kinda depressed/anxious so might have eaten too large portions. Didn't take a baseball bat to the scale (good!) or have a downward spiral of negative thoughts either (very good!).

All the comments about posting regularly to the board keeps us on track is right! In more ways than eating OP. I have to work on this area. On Thursday, had the niggling thought that "oh well, may as well eat (insert comfort starch/sugar food here)". I might have resisted if I had posted my frustration from WIW.

But now, I must confess, that I keep my fears & anxieties secret which permits me to procrastinate and avoid them. NEVER a good coping mechanism. Sister anxiety to this is "If people really knew me, they won't like me." *sigh*

Here goes: I am in the midst of an academic job search, and I wildly fluctuate between a reasonable " that's a great university & I will be a competitive candidate" to my paralyzing fear "OMG!!! Ill never get a tenure-track faculty position, worse, I'll never get another JOB!!!!"

I now have only 2 weeks to complete 18-22 job applications (evil little creative writing exercises.. did my profs actually *have* a teaching philosophy?) And I have to finish a manuscript, a poster & 20 minute presentation for the New Orleans meeting, & actually attend the NO meeting. My secret shame is that I have, in this fit of depression, missed a grant deadline and several job application deadlines. (Just because the jobs were in Montana doesn't make it right!) The second shame is that ONCE I get started, I usual do well. It's overcoming the crushing shame (nebulous & free floating) to just do it.

Sigh, rant over. Thanks for being here guys. Reading all the posts helps keep me grounded in reality: both in life and the SB WOE.

A Few Delinquent replies:

Sef: Great cartoon! Came while I was procrastinating on myEbay. Sorta woke me up, with respect to procrastinating. I'm sure that my black cat would sell the dog if he could!
Oh yeah--about falling in public. When I met Bill, I literally fell for him. 5 times in the first 6 dates! I even ended up under his Bronco II! :o My excuse was the 7-day ice storm but I blew that cover when I fell flat on my face at my nephews graduation in May--no ice. But Bill has now held my hand when we walk ever since we met. ;) One day he will go over that cliff with me....

Debelli: Your motivational Mondays are fantastic for me. Especially the Don't put it off until tomorrow themes. I am working on the exercise issue too. I am trying to make friends with the treadmill in the garage. Anyone remember the commercial about the hapless guy thrown against the wall by his treadmill? Remember my reply to Sef above? Well, I am getting on the treadmill this afternoon, so pray for me! :p
I am impressed with your negotiating skills in getting the mgr to "give in like butter" on the Calphalon deal. Late reply, but it was great to hear that Michael is trying for MENSA.

Lots o'people: I too see SB as a flexible program, and I try for maximum compliance. I related to the comment that on SB, I can "celebrate special occasions (few times a year)" by enjoying the food without guilt. I *do* after all obsess about food. If I feel that 'all is lost', I will eat till the cows come home! My trade-off is that I lose weight slower, but that is ok for me.

Gotta run now & actually START those job apps.

Hi,

Yesterday’s outing turned out to work very well food wise. The restaurant where we ate for lunch had a Gorgonzola cheese hamburger that I ordered without the bun and they let me sub broccoli for the fries. They even put some avocado on the side. Well the lunch was a little high in fat but no carbs. We managed to get home before dinner and I had cottage cheese with some zucchini and 3 triscuits. This morning I did weigh as I promised myself and I am already a little lighter which encourages me. Today I will up my carbs to 3 for the day but no spelt sesame sticks will be included. HA!

Pancho: Thank you for the information on the pizza. It would be nice to have something like that pre-made. When I am in Dallas, I go to my favorite pizza place and buy all the toppings and sauce on the pizza, bring it home and put it on a SGWW crust that I have made in the bread machine. Your mother saying you don’t need to lose any more weight reminds me of my mother who is always so frank. It does sound like you have done so well on this program...congrats.

Sef: I will be looking forward to the sauerkraut recipe, thanks.

Chrisd: When I was at the grocery store, I remembered your Quick Chocolate Cheesecake so I bought some SF, No Fat, Instant Chocolate Pudding. Now I see that it was suppose to be chocolate fudge but I was not sure what size package was needed ,so, I bought both and I will wait to hear from you about which one to use....that is if you think the regular chocolate flavor will work as well.

Fillise and Monet: I am jealous that you got to Harry's and got such a good price on the Agave. Monet, when we get together next time, would it be too far to try to make Harry's?

Hope all of you have a good day. I am off to measure out some water and get started drinking it.

HiedieHo All!

Let's see. Up early, did some crcheting while it was cool. Made the bed and cleaned the bathroom. I'm procrastinating on the vacuuming! Decided my nails were more important so I have put on the base coat and waiting for it to dry. I mean, afterall, we have to set priorities!

My GD wasn't supposed to be home this weekend, but couldn't get tickets to the LSU game, so came home. Also brought her URI with her. I love my GD, but I am going to keep my distance this weekend! I didn't know she was coming so only cooked for three, but she said she ate before she left campus so I lucked out.

GRANT: I can sympathize with you on looking forward to a doctor's appointment. I had back surgery in '93 and I'm so glad I did. It was dangerous but I was progressively getting worse, so with a 50/50 chance I did it. Good thoughts going your way.

CHERYL: Hope you feel better soon. What a bargain you had, the Dungeon Mistress will be proud of you! You know how "cheap" she is looking for bargains. My GM used to quote the old adage "Take care of the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves." That's what DEB does.

DAVE: Glad you're feeling better.

MONET: The joke hit home with anyone who works or has worked with kids. Okay, the wagon ride was a little bumpy last night. Need to fasten the seat belt tighter!

EMMA: I always say I work best under pressure. Sounds like you do to. It's the getting started that's the hard part. My son's Beagle would gladly sell my cat! When they met Bear gave him a slap in the face that set him reeling. Bear has ruled the roost ever since. Diesel gives him the right away at all times! Did I mention that Bear is a 15# longhaired ball of toughness? Yeah I hurt when I fell but the embarrassment kept me going. I kept a good face until I got home and was ready to cry. I do have a physical excuse that my feet do not always feel the surface I am on, it is especially difficult when I change surfaces. That and old age!!!

Time for second coat of polish.

Citi: 'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.'

Citi: 'Since it is 2 months past due, it already has been.'

Me: 'So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?'

Citi: 'Either report it to the frauds division, or report her to the credit bureau...maybe both!'

Me: 'Do you think God will be mad at her?'

Citi: '...excuse me .....'

Me: 'Did you just get what I was telling you.... the part about her being dead?'

Citi: 'Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor!'

CitiS: 'Well...the late fees and charges do still apply.'

Morning all!

I had a great visit with Monet yesterday! As always, it was good to visit andsoo not only Monet, but DD and Mr. Rogers! We went over to Harry's where I stocked up on the Wheat Montana--that stuff makes the best bread!!!!! My flour caninster is now full and 1 1/2 bags (about 8 lbs) are in the freezer. We also found the oatmeal craker thingys that don't taste so hot by them selves, but with cheese or creme cheese and Polaner are right tasty! The have no sugar and no grain other than the oatmeal. Each cracker has almost 1 gram of fiber, so they add a necessary composnet to the diet! I was also able to pcik up 8 bottles of agave at $2.59 per bottle! I'm well stocked on agave now. It was a great visit and I am grateful to have gotten to visit with Monet again!

Mom 2 jared--according to the SB book, insulin has a lot to do with cholesterol. What you and yr DR may be overlooking is that the numbers might have been worse without your following SB!

Gator--You know in Lex.--footbal is something to do to pass the time until BB season rolls around! That's the way we have always been in NC too! All that is about the change with Miama and Va. Tech coming into the ACC next year.

Shirley--I sure hope the shoulders are feeling better soon! I always appreciate your FF!

Beach--I will be there Friday and Saturday. My conference begins about noon on Friday and should end about 2:00 on Sat. I thought I'd try to hit one of the malls before I came home. I'd love to meet up with you! Tell me which you prefer. I'm probably good to go anytime after 2:00 on Sat!

Coleen--Sounds like you are doing great!

Jackie--Have fun with the granddog! Basketball tickets in Auburn are EASY to come by--more's the pity!

JackieO--I'm thinking I'm going to have to look into the first two weeks of the South Beach plan--sounds like it worked great for you. And yeah so many of us are bad about forgetting about portion control!

Yellow--I'm jealous of your view--it sounds heavenly!

Nat--Thanks for the info about the carnitine! I'm going to have to look into it! I bet you were scared out of your mind with Brit! Hope everything is OK now!

Wood--What's a partylite party?

Crystle--I love the graphic! You are so talented!

BOB--I saw a group of teenage girls clogging to RockyTop on TV yesterday morning. They were arrested before they could finish their dance. THAT's how much they hate UT in Alabama!!!! Now about that Friday funny--be careful or I'mm have to report you to the office of homeland security!

Heart--Sounds like you are doing well--especially in the bargian dept!

Cherlyco--we ALL need to strengthen our commitment this time of year.

SuperDave--Good to hear from you!

Monet--IT was great seeing you yesterday and I can't wait for you and DD and friend to visit me down in Auburn! The drive to the Mall was not bad at all--in fact the sun directly in my eyes was far worse than the traffic! I got what I needed and then had dinner at Micks. Nuf said.

Grant--Unfortunately we all get stuck from time to time. It helps to check your measurements because we often continue to lose inches even if the scale does not move.

Emma--OMG--not the ACADEMIC JOB SEARCH! They are the WORST! Sweetie, I've been there and know exactly what you are going through. And you are right, the procrastination is much worse than actually doing it. Oh yeah--and those teaching philosophies are a load of crap. It's how they make it look like they value teaching--but it's all reasearch when it comes to tenure time. My thoughts are with you!

Have a great OP day everyone!

and WAR EAGLE!

There is a cool breeze blowing through the house this afternoon. It is awesome. Thunder is rolling in the background as the cold front is approaching. I LOVE this time of year. Usually we don't get a good front like this until after Thanksgiving so it's a treat. The dogs are laying around being as lazy as their owner. I;m sure when the cold winds start to blow and the sun dries up the rain they will be running around like wild animals.

Emma Praying for you as you finish your job applications and all the writing that you have to do. I really liked what you wrote:
Sister anxiety to this is "If people really knew me, they won't like me." *sigh*

I think many of us share these thoughts from time to time. I'm always amazed at how universal some things are.

Susan aww thank you. I'm glad you liked it. I enjoy making things to share.

Grant Sorry that your back is still hurting so badly. Praying you get relief soon.

Yellow WTG eating lighter. It's great when the scales show a quick change.

Monet I loved your friday funny.

Cherylco I think you win the bargin of the week award. Great deal on the book.

Sef Thanks for the funny. We have two cats and I could see the female auctioning off the dogs. She stiffens her back and gives them heck. Our male thinks he is a dog. I don't know if he would know how to be a cat...LOL

Well, if it isn't too big I'm gonna attach a picture of one of our beautiful sunsets. I was walking and the kids ran in to get the camera. I almost lost the window of opportunity. They set so quickly. I lost some of the quality in the resize but I think you can still see some of the pretty purples.

Love and hugs,

WOO HOO! I hopped on the metal monster this morning....down to a new low- one pound below the lowest. I thought about that ice cream in the freezer, but have not indulged yet. I am more interested in salty stuff today than sweets. I also would like to hold that low until my doctor's visit on Monday.

FILLISE: You are SO brave woman! I am debating telling Tom about the Mr. Rogers crack! ;) Luckily he is off hiking on the AT today! Laura is off at a Halloween party, so I have the house to myself. What did you get at Mick's? You should have stayed and had some steak...there was plenty!

COUNTRY: Beautiful sunset!

YELLOW: Harry's is not far at all from where you usually stay when you stop in Atlanta. If you remember, I offered to take you there last time. Now that you know I am not too weird, ;) perhaps next time we can leave the guys to chat and run over there. Its only about ten minutes from where you stay.

Later!

YELLOW ROSE - Hi, I have used both and there really isnt a difference at all. It calls for the smaller box. I dont know if you read the lastest post on that dessert? You can use 1% milk instead of heavy cream....really no difference and you save on all the fat.

Enjoy!
Let me know how you liked it.

GOOD EARLY EVENING FROM A BREEZY SW COAST OF FLA!!!

I just love it when FALL comes to town. It was in the upper 80's today, but you would never know it! :bravo:

Not too happy with my game today...it's a typical TENNESSEE vs BAMA game.
You can NEVER predict the outcome of this one...

I made a huge pot of VEGGIE soup this afternoon, and man is it ever good! PERFECTO!!!

I've been faithfully drinking my unsweetened cranberry juice today. Flushing out the old kidneys...If you've never tried this stuff, you should...I get it at the HFS, take a gallon container and empty the quart bottle of juice and then fill the rest with water. Add your favorite sweetner and you've got the best medicinal drink you've ever had!

THE MOVIES:

TREMBLING BEFORE GOD is a documentary made in Jewish communities all over the world. It tells the hardship of gay men and lesbians who are totally committed to their faith and what they have to tolerate. It's one of the best films Ive seen in a while. Very well made and was judged at the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL last year.

RUNS IN THE FAMILY...this is a good flick, and not predictable..I think you all will enjoy this one.

SUSAN....GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Hope everyone has a good evening...it's back to football...Looks like I'll be tuned in WAY past bedtime...

DON'T FORGET TO SET YOUR CLOCKS TONIGHT!!!

I found this article, and it does apply to the Atkins diet, but it's a good read.....ENJOY!!!

by Mary Schmich, Chicago Tribune

Published October 22, 2003

Lately I keep running into men dipping their fingers into greasy little bags, then popping peanuts into their mouths. These men are not at baseball games. They are on a diet.

You know which diet. It's the one that lets guys eat the guilt-free way they've yearned to eat since guys invented fire for the purpose of barbecuing. It's the diet that's made bacon the king of the salad bar, turned "carb" into a four-letter word and made pork chops as stylish as caviar.

I know, plenty of women are into the Atkins diet too--a colleague woke up the other day to the odor of his dieting wife cooking filet mignon for breakfast--but ultimately Atkins is the quintessential diet for dudes.

Back before the dearly departed Dr. Atkins made dieting as manly as watching ESPN, guys went on diets only under orders from a wife or girlfriend. Or maybe orders from a doctor but only after a second triple bypass. Even if a guy did modify what he ate, he wouldn't openly term the change a diet. That would have been the equivalent of calling his briefcase a purse.

It wasn't so long ago that dieting was a prissy endeavor. Dieting meant nibbling on baby carrots, surviving on tea and lettuce. There were all-you-can-eat diets, but the "all" meant grapefruit or kale, not steak.

Dieting used to be for girls, many of whom, sadly, learn to count calories, fat grams and pounds as easily and early as they learn to add 2 and 2. In any given moment, according to one survey, 45 percent of American women--and only 25 percent of men--are on a diet.

Now guys are dieting voluntarily, eagerly--ferociously!--and proselytizing the benefits of sirloin and nut mix. Now the manliest of men are preaching dieting to the women in their lives and trading diet tips as giddily as those women on "The View."

"The thing that really has you irked," says one newly svelte Atkins diet dude, "is that guys have found a way that's so simple."

"I am not irked, I'm merely fascinated by the spectacle of a dieting trend among guys who until last month wouldn't have known a fat gram from a graham cracker."

That's what I would have said if he hadn't been carrying on with his diet infomercial.

"It's so simple," says this man, whose partiality to dieting simplicity dates to his only previous weight-loss program, the "no French fries" diet, which really meant French fries only on weekends.

"There's no counting," he says of his simple new regime. "It doesn't involve a pyramid. Basically, it's just meat."

Meat.

I think men like the Atkins diet not only because it gives them license to eat meat, a lot of meat, but to say it: Meat. Meat. More meat. How much meat?

"An egg fried in butter, over-medium, with sausage and bacon," says the meat man, describing the previous day's breakfast.

"Caesar salad with bacon and feta cheese," he says about lunch.

"Buffalo burger with gouda cheese and a couple slices of extra gouda," he says of dinner. And between meals, the ubiquitous peanuts, the only thing in the carbo-loaded office candy machine that suits the low-carb dieter.

I'm convinced that the social ground for the Atkins diet was laid by Jared, the Subway guy, who lost 245 pounds eating sandwiches and chips. Bread and potatoes, with their evil carbs, make an Atkins dieter gag, but Jared transformed dieting into an accessible notion for regular guys. The portions looked big. And it involved going to the same place to eat the same thing every day. Simple.

Atkins diet skeptics point out that the vast majority of those who lose weight on any diet, as opposed to exercising regularly and eating in a balanced way, regain their weight. They also question how long the average guy can live without pizza and doughnuts. Even the aforementioned dieter has begun to consider the unthinkable: Will he grow sick of bacon?

Not yet. When a friend notified him of a bacon-by-mail program, he thought, as any manly man would, "Perfect for my diet!"

Bread Is Dangerous

Important Warning for those who have been drawn unsuspectingly
into the use of bread:

1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread users.

2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming
households score below average on standardized tests.

3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in
the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years;
infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in
childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever, and
influenza ravaged whole nations.

4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within
24 hours of eating bread.

5. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been
proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to
suffocate a mouse. The average American eats more bread than that
in one month!

6. Primitive tribal societies that have no bread exhibit a low
incidence of cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and
osteoporosis.

7. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of
bread and given only water to eat begged for bread after as
little as two days.

8. Bread is often a "gateway" food item, leading the user to
"harder" items such as butter, jelly, peanut butter, and even
cold cuts.

9. Bread has been proven to absorb water. Since the human body
is more than 90 percent water, it follows that eating bread could
lead to your body being taken over by this absorptive food
product, turning you into a soggy, gooey bread-pudding person.

10. Newborn babies can choke on bread.

11. Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees
Fahrenheit! That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one
minute.

12. Most American bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish
between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical
babbling.

In light of these frightening statistics, we propose the
following bread restrictions:

1. No sale of bread to minors.

2. A nationwide "Just Say No To Toast" campaign, complete with
celebrity TV spots and bumper stickers.

3. A 300 percent federal tax on all bread to pay for all the
societal ills we might associate with bread.

4. No animal or human images, nor any primary colors (which may
appeal to children) may be used to promote bread usage.

5. The establishment of "Bread-free" zones around schools.

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. (Hardly seems worth it.)

If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb. (Now that's more like it!)

The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet. (OMG !)

A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes. (In my next life, I want to be a pig.)

A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death. (Creepy.) (I'm still not over the pig.)

Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour. (Do not try this at home. Maybe at work.)

The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off. ("Honey, I'm home. What the....?!")

The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field. (30 minutes... lucky pig. can you imagine??)

The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds. (What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?)

Some lions mate over 50 times a day. (I still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity)

Butterflies taste with their feet. (Something I always wanted to know.)

The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. (Hmmmmmm........)

Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people. (If you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?)

Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump. (OK, so that would be a good thing....)

A cat's urine glows under a black light. (I wonder who was paid to figure that out?)

An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain. (I know some people like that.)

Starfish have no brains. (I know some people like that too.)

Polar bears are left-handed. (If they switch, they'll live a lot longer.)

Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure. (What about that pig??)

One of those weeks...

Seems all I have time for is quickies to let you know that I'm alive! I knew it was going to be a busy week but didn't realize just how busy. ELI just walked in the door from work and I have to figure out what's for dinner. Was invited to a friends to watch the Marlins beat NY:s: but I think we'll just stay home and watch it here.

Tomorrow is a busy day, have the B/M to go to and have to leave early. Won't be able to get on the board til Monday when I start the new weekly board. Haven't had time to even read the past few days so I haven't a clue what's been happening with you, but don't think that I'm not thinking of you guys!!! Bear with me!!

It's a couudy, stormy Sunday morning here. Matches my mood completely after last night's game!

BOB--I think I used all my good football karma yesterday rooting for your team. I was even late to a party to watch Auburn because at that point I'd lnvested over 4 hours of my life in UT/Bama and had to see how it came out! Glad your guys pulled it out in the end. I'm also curious about what they used to narc up Bordie Croyle's arm at halftime? During the first half of the game he seemed to be in a great deal of pain and in the second half and all those overtimes--no pain at all. Hmmmmm. I want some of that action!

Missy--Congrats--your guys played a great game--especially that first quarter!

I don't follow pro football but Sunday is NASCAR day at my house!

Deb--Have fun at the B/M today! Will look forward to hearing about it on Monday!

SuperDave--nice quote! I'm going to begin rereading the book today--that always remotivates me!

Country--beautiful sunsets! Thanks for sharing them with us!

Monet--I had a hamburger on a WW bun (I doubt it was real WW, but they did offer that on the menu--and Mick's has good burgers!) I'm still trying to find a place to store all the agave bottles. I'm going to have to do some serious reorganization of my kitchen shelves (tiny kitchen). They are all sitting on the washing machine now!

Have a great day everyone! I think there is a lot to the idea that one day a week everyones needs a serious day of rest. It rests the body and recharges the soul! Ive been reading that one of the keys to weight lossis enough sleep. So everyone is under order to TAKE A NAP this afternoon!:smug:

Hi all, I'm new and have been following these boards for about a week now. After seeing my parents finally losing weight using the Atkins WOE I decided to give it a try. It's really not a realistic way of eating for me. I decided to look into other low carb diets. I think the biggest problem with my diet is white sugars and flours. So I found info online for Sugar Busters. I have yet to read the book, having a really hard time finding it and now waiting on it from Amazon. I've read many sites and found www.prettyempressivestuff.com the most informative. Are there any other sites out there? I think this WOE will work for me. I have about 60lbs to lose and I'm ready to lose it.

Oh yes, one more question. Is there another SB board here on 3fc that is geared more towards SB in general? This board seems more personal, daily info...which is great don't get me wrong!...but I found it very long to go through all these more personal posts.

Ellen

SHELLSAVAZ: This is the place to ask questions...most of us hang out in here during the week. It is long, if you look at it on Sunday, but if you start out on Monday, its easy to keep up. The whole group on here is pretty outgoing and nice...we love to have new people join the group. Its personal stuff, but we consider one another as friends, and are genuinely interested in the stuff of each other's lives that effects your abilities to succeed on any program. I sure hope you will stick around and get to know us and let us get to know you! Tomorrow morning, Deb will start the new thread for the week, and it will be shorter for a few days...;) I started out on Atkins/Protein Power, and could not lose at all. I have thyroid problems, which did not help at all! Once I switched to SugarBusters! I started losing, though rather slowly. I love the program. It is so easy to follow! I know there are a few other web pages with SB info...There is even an SB web site with some info on it. Its www.sugarbusters.com I have been on here for a long time though, and when I was starting out, there was always someone on here who could answer my questions. Hope to see you around!
