Hey BOB!!!

Have you been talking to Jiff?

Cause she called me a nasty just the other day and I got in trouble with the nurse practitioner at the surgeon's office yesterday.

I have not been getting in my protein. Remember at my one week visit the doctor told me to eat three meals a day and use the protein drinks as a snack in between? Well, I had wls (duh) and I am not hungry in between and I can't eat much anymore (this sounds like a song!) so my protein numbers have been pitiful!

they brought out profanity in Ms. Mod...not really a hard thing to do and always amusing....I digress.

any way....I told the nurse practitioner that I was having trouble and she said, "have a protein shake for breakfast!" I told her that the doc said not to use them at meals...and she said....I loved this...."what does he know....we are trying to keep you alive!" So the past two days and as we speak I am trying to get in two protein shakes a day.

My food day goes something like this:

B...1oz of cheese and 1 slice of deli ham or turkey

L...protein shake

s 1 oz of cheese 1 or 2 pieces of deli ham or turkey

D...1 slice of taylor ham, 1 oz of cheese or a piece of fish, maybe some green beans or 1/4 to 1/2 cup of Wendy's Chili.

s...protein shake...this one I really have to force down BUT I am doing it.....

I have a nasty cold that can't decide to go away, hang out in my sinuses (is that right?) or settle in my chest. So I am drinking tons of crystal lite and hot decaf tea.

Remember...I had this wls so I could live a good long healthy life!
I don't want to blow it now!!!

My official weight loss is 31 pounds which the nurse P. said was an average weight loss. I wonder if I up my protein and calories if I will lose faster? I never put much stock into the starvation mode thing at least for me, BUT now since I am eating so darn little (or is this normal eating  what do I know?) maybe there is something to it. We'll see!

Thanks for asking, BOB....you keep me honest!

How you doin BOB???? Anything exciting going on in your southern neck of the woods? I kind of get the feeling you'd make a pretty decent jersey girl!!!! How do you feel about big hair? rofl!!

hugs!

Hey Janice....you can bring those toe kickers up here any darn time you want!!! One of the things I really want when I get to goal...or at least close enough to wear a pair of levi jeans with a real live zipper in the front with NO elastic is a really nice and tasteful leather boots.

Jiff will probably make me wear a dumb feather boa with them but I am NOT going to do it.

Don't worry about us and Isabel. We are going to get some wind and some rain, there may be some flooding and school for tomorrow has a delayed opening BUT we are not going to get hit hard at all. Honest.

love ya!

PEACH!!!

To be honest, I can't believe that you're eating as much as you are! I couldn't eat hardly that much at all, and my DOC said as long as I was taking my vitamins like I should every day and eating what I could, I would be fine....I was afraid of stretching my stomach!

Don't forget, I'm originally from KY, the LAND OF BIG HAIR!!!! Although, I don't have it anymore...too damned hot down here for that! I'm afraid the sun would ignite the hair spray!!

DEB...I thought of you a couple of weeks ago when I frantically drove thru Hotlanta...I saw the sign to exit to your little hamlet!

UPDATE on the REDO....I'm successfully loosing at a steady rate and I'm postponing the thought of doing the redo...if I continue as I am now, I won't have to do it...BUT....who knows....??????

Everyone have a GREAT WEEKEND!!!

Hey BOB! Glad to hear that you are losing steadily. Are you doing a specific program? I know that a while back you were doing sugar busters.

You are originally from Kentucky? I don't think my Mom will let me talk to you any more....she's a Hoosier and she told us terrible things about you guys...I bet you know how that goes!!!

Debkay...are you eating those gummy fruit snakes???? PUT THEM DOWN PUT THEM IN THE TRASH COVER THEM WITH ICKY STUFF THEY'LL GIVE YOU HOT FLASHES AND MAKE HAIR GROW ON PLACES THAT YOU DON'T WANT AND THEY WILL CURSE YOUR BELOVED FOOTBALL TEAM ON SUNDAY oh wait, that is not such a bad idea!)

I hate snakes.

Thank you all for the kick in the butt...Ruthie...I didn't know you had the metal bra put away...I thought you kept it mounted

Jiff's right...you'll hear us, remember...I'm the quiet one!

Dear Peachie, And al l of the other WLS people. Protien shakes are yuck I can't seam to get them in either. I have not had any blood work done yet I am trying to get in at least 70 grams each day and on average I am getting in 50-60 per day. I get to start with the soft foods today but I ate them too fast and have some kind of pain in the chest that is starting to go away. This is new to us and we are trying to learn from your mistakes but I think that we have to learn ourselves. We know best (he he) I am getting in the water or fluid requirement. I wish that I could find a protien shake that tastes good. My Dr too says eat only when you are hungry. I am not hungry at all. He does not have a nutrintionalist to talk to so I am on my own.( I went for his surgical skills not his bed side manor)I have a book that helps but not much else to go on.

Yesterdays food diary.
Breakfast 8 oz buttermilk
snack 6 oz yougart
lunch 4 oz cottage cheese
snack tomato juice
dinner 1/4 turkey burger with a little cheese
1/2 cup pea soup with ham
snack virgin mary had to feel social
and of couse all of the water in the form of crystal light

Suggestions are welcome

Love Grammy

and here comes the protein witch flying in on her broomstick!!!!!

tomato juice IS NOT A SNACK!!!! it's not protein.

but pea soup is. it's a protein. it's also a liquid, and therefore not to be eaten with a burger!!!! and try adding some non-stringy cheese to the pea soup to boost the protein.

also, buttermilk, although protein, is a liquid, and therefore more of a snack than a meal. you need somethiing like an egg [hardboiled, softboiled, poached, whatever] or some cheese or cottage cheese or smoked salmon. SOMETHING..

keep up the good work!!!!!

and try to find a protein shake you can tolerate. you're doing pretty well, but that shake will make a big difference for you.

Thank you for the reply Jif I am trying todo the right things and I do appreciat your input. Can I use the pea soup to thin out the meat as I blend it. it is too dry to eat alone. When I was on full fluids that is when I used Butter milk as a meal. Today is the first full day on soft foods
Todays Diary
Breakfast 2 tbs scrambled egg sub. tried crm of rice cereal too could not eat it too much
Mid morning snack nasty protien shake got 3/4 of it down
Lunch pea soup with chicken blended together ate 1/3 cup
I am not hungry for a mid afternoon snack
so far 32 oz of crystal light

Is this any better. Grammy

marsha... you're getting there...

try something like this:

instead of the official protein shake [which none of us actually likes] here's an egg custard. it's actually a homemade protein shake, but i got fed up one day and dumped it all into a baking dish and it turned into a decent custard!!!!

3 servings of egg substitute
3/4 cup skim milk
3 packets sweetener
a teaspoon or two of vanilla
cinnamon, nutmeg to taste

you can either blend this and pour it over ice or put it into a baking dish and pop it into the oven for about 45 minutes [30 minutes?] at about 350

ok. back to the day's food.

here's what i did at about 1-2 months postop

early morning: tea

around 8 am: protein shake

around 9:30: hard boiled or deviled egg

lunch: cottage cheese or high protein soup without the broth or fish

snack: protein shake

other snack: some cheese

dinner: meat, either ground or pounded thin and served in a sauce. this could take the form of meatballs in sauce or sausage or chicken cutlets.

to puree the meat, i'd add chicken broth rather than pea soup [that sounds really gross.. how did it taste???]. you can also use gravy. most of the jarred stuff is fat free. and a tablespoon or so can really make a difference.

yeah, i know we've all been trained to avoid gravy, but as my surgeon said: HOW MUCH ARE YOU GOING TO EAT??? his view was that if a tablespoon or so of gravy was going to make the difference in whether we ate the meat, he wanted us to have the stuff.

don't bother with the cream of rice or the oatmeal. it's not helping you right now.

other snacks like milk, cheese, yogurt, buttermilk are all fine.

and you can add some american cheese to the soups to boost the protein. as long as it's not stringy, it's ok

does this help any?? keep on going.. you'ren doing fine!!!
