If you're thinking it - say it!!
I went to visit a friend this past weekend I hadn't seen for awhile. We've both lost a considerable amount of weight and naturally gushed to each other how great we both looked. She then told me how hurtful it was that her husband had not said one single word to her about her weight loss. It reminded me of mthrgoose commenting on her husband's silence. Later that evening, as my friend showered in preparation for our evening out, I was engaged in conversation with her husband. One of the first things out of his mouth was, "Doesn't C look great? She's worked really hard and I'm so proud of her". I blurted out, "Why are you telling ME, you should be telling HER!". He then said, "Oh I'm sure she knows how I feel. Anyway, she should be doing this for herself and not for me". Well, have you ever wanted to slap someone upside the head??
I wonder how many people have lost motivation or just felt less satisfied with their results because the people they care about don't express any appreciation or give encouragement? I can just imagine the boost of confidence or shot of adreneline my friend would get if she heard those words directly from her hubby and not secondhand through me!
Yes, we ARE doing this for ourselves - but hearing compliments from others gives such reassurance and reinforcement. After all, isn't that a big part of the reason we come to this site - to share experiences AND urge each other on through praise?
