Just wanted to show you some pictures...
Arizona Giant Saguaro Cactus Flower Bloom...
hubby had to stand up tall and then hold the camera up even higher to snatch this pic of the flower. They only bloom once a year! Pretty huh..this flower is about the size of a sunflower!

Here's 1 of our Barrel Cactus blooming in the yard...after the flowers bloom they wilt and turn brown but then they grow this pineapple looking thing under the brown wilted leaves..looks like a mini pineapple!

https://publish.comcast.net/clipart/icons_balls/bttns026.gifHere's 1 of an Ocotillo blooming...don't get near these things though cause if you get too close..well..you can see why...
08-31-2003, 05:54 AM
And here is one of my favorites...The "Rat Tail" cactus! I picked this one up at the swap meet in December 2002. I felt sorry for it because it was brown, full of ants, etc..& the guy was going to throw it away so...I took it home and nursed it back to health and here it is...blooming! Well, the BIRDS eat the blooms (that's why there's only one on here) but I did manage to get a pic of this one before it got plucked off and eaten too.

Here's my lone African Violet. I have had this one since 1998. It's the only one that hasn't died on me! It even managed to survive the trip from Oregon to Tucson so I guess it loves me. :D
Close up of the flower..the white stuff on the leaves is from the minerals the water leaves behind when it drys on the leaves. We have very hard water here in Tucson. Thank God for pumice stones!

Thanks! I meant to post more but I got too tired last night. I'll post some more though here shortly. I'll try to put 1 or 2 up a day..I have hundreds so I can keep everyone photo entertained for about a year or so. Enjoy!

And here we have a genuine Organ Pipe Cactus plant. This one is in my bathroom. It's the only plant I can keep up there on my counter that the kitten doesn't get into. I got it last August and it has doubled in size in a year. Amazing what a little cactus fertilizer and a lot of love can do...:)

And here is my doggie, Taco. We got her in May 2002 at the local Humane Society. The poor thing had been abused, neglected, and abandoned and was skinny as a rail. She was the adult doggie in with a litter of pups...we went up to look at the pups and she came up to the cage door and rubbed against it like take me take me! So..we took her home and she'd been in paradise ever since! (Well for a dog). She even has her own little bed on my side of the bed complete with a pillow and blankie. Spoiled!! But she's worth it! 100%. I  my doggie.
Doggie in May 2002. (About a week after we brought her home)
And here she is now...Much healthier!

I love your pictures!!...Your animals are beautiful/precious!..I always say if I were mega rich..I would own 100!..I like your little mice quilt too!..Do you quilt?
09-01-2003, 04:14 PM
No I don't quilt. I'm not that talented. hehehee My mother-in-law does though..she made that quilt you see Comet sitting on. She made the one on our bed too...the double wedding ring one. I think she said it took her 7 years to make. Incredible! She also makes these little kit thingys and travels around the western united states going to different quilt shows to sell her goods. I have patience but not THAT much patience! I'll post a pic here of the quilt...have to upload it..brb.
09-01-2003, 04:22 PM
Here is the quilt she made for us.
My husband drew the rats you see on the quilt there. I also put up the close-up pic of his drawings. (NOTE: We don't smoke...The ratties he drew smoking were how he invisioned his former pet ratties personalities if they were human instead of rats.) He has also had some of his humor cartoons published in magazines, and is currently working on Christmas cards for this one magazine. Finally he is getting paid for his artwork!! (ok not much $$ but..its the "status" that counts right? )
Here they are close-up. Hub hand drew all of these!! The M-i-l transferred them onto iron-on paper.
09-01-2003, 04:30 PM
Ok..Here's a couple of pics of my ratties getting their weekly bath.
Mom..I want out now! (Little black one there (name is 8-Ball) with his front feet on the side of the tub).
A good rat is a clean rat. :mouse:

As promised..more pics! Here are some of my Lantanas that seem to grow well out here. All of the lantanas you see I planted last October. They were just teensy weensie plants then now look at em'! Amazing what a little bit of fertilizer and a lot of watering & TLC can do. :D They are great hummingbird and butterfly attractor plants as well. I am hoping 1 day I can actually catch a hummingbirds picture.
This one here is a yellow ground covering one...its about 4 feet long by 3 feet or so wide...and I just trimmed it too!
09-03-2003, 01:45 AM
:flow1:And here we have another ground covering Lantana. this one is more of a bright orangey yellowie color. Measures about the same size as the yellow one in the previous picture.
09-03-2003, 01:47 AM
:flow1: This Lantana is also a ground spreader cover upper. This is a lavendar one but it lays a bit lower then the other lantanas.
09-03-2003, 01:49 AM
:flow1: This Lantana is a pastel color. This one grows more like a mini tree/bush. It is about 3 feet tall and its branches are about 3 feet or so long.
09-03-2003, 01:52 AM
:flow1: Now this Lantana here is a magenta with speckles of orange and yellow colors. It also grows more like a tree/bush. It is about 2½ feet tall and the branches are about 2-3 feet long. Pretty huh!
09-03-2003, 02:13 AM
:flow1: And here we have my Palm Tree. I must be nuts..I planted this on August 25th when it was about 97° out and sunny. Figures..right after I planted this the clouds rolled in and it got shady. It took me about 2 hours to plant it because you have to dig the hole 3x as big, and you can't just "dig". You have to use the digging stick to break up the ground. Then you have to mix the bad dirt with 50% mulch so your tree has nutrients. The rocks are there so the monsoons didn't blow the tree over. Now I just hope it grows nicely. It won't get too big cause it is a queen palm but it should give off some shade in about 2-4 years.
09-04-2003, 03:34 AM
:flow1:Here is 2 pics of our State Flower "Tree"..The Saguaro Cactus! This is the same cactus as that close Up I showed ya in the 1st pic...Just a further away view. Pretty huh!
09-04-2003, 03:35 AM
:flow1: Here it is..same cactus..just closer pic of the different blooms. See..Cacti isn't always ugly..:)
09-05-2003, 02:41 AM
:flow1:Ok what you see here is the start of my flagstone path I put together myself. The river rock is around my J & P groundcover roses, which weren't doing too good at the time, but they are perking up now. I got all of the river rock for free! About a truck bed full..that's just a few pieces ya see there...
09-05-2003, 02:46 AM
:flow1:Here is the rest of it on the one side of the house. It took me about 8 months to finish the path. I had to rake away the rocks, level the dirt, water it down, lay the stone, make sure it's level again (which I did a horrible job at!) and then re-rake the rocks over and squirt down the flagstones. PAIN IN THE.... Next time I hire someone to do it. :dizzy:
09-05-2003, 02:51 AM
:flow1: Ok this is on the other side of the house where my hose bib is. I laid the flagstone for this side too. Now it may not seem like a lot of work, but if you live in Tucson, you know how the dirt is around here! I have a 15 pound digging stick I have to use to break up the dirt, then I rake it down for the stones, then water it down, level the dirt, lay the stones, stomp on the stones, rake rocks back over them, etc. The stones look crooked but it's because of the angle they are at. Those ones that look just tossed on there are actually on a hill. I had to design the stones this way cause I kept slipping when I would go up to get the hose (it sat on an angle on the little hill there). Now it's all flat and easy for me to access. :p
YOu take such beautiful pics Noodles. You have a beautiful yard too! How about a pic of the house? I'm such a house junkie...love to watch that show Home Hunters on HGTV! Also love going to open houses.
09-06-2003, 09:31 AM
Ok..I'll post some of the house real soon here...:) I have some but the car and truck are in the driveway, it was raining, etc. so the pictures came out lousy. I'll try this weekend to get better ones. Besides, I have a little more I want to do to the common area part of the yard before I take the full house pic. (Yea..I'm nuts...one can never have enough flowers. :flow1:
09-06-2003, 09:34 AM
Here is the kid's bowling pic I promised ya from the Kid Thread. This pic is almost a year old though. ACK! I'll try to get a new one tonight. :bubbles:
09-08-2003, 01:56 AM
Here is the bad shot of my house...rain and all! It looks smaller than it actually is. It's a long walk back to the gate there. I have both sides of the flagstone path lined with Cacti and Lantanas. Those bushes there with the pink flowers are Oleanders. They are HUGE! I need to trim them. I'll get some better pics this week of the house and roses for ya. :flow1:
09-08-2003, 02:50 AM
:flow1:And here is a shot of part of the front yard from my walkway..about 5 feet from the front door...It looks cold out there but it was really about 95° and HUMID!!
Note: There's a pic of the house on page 3.

Here's a couple of pics of my daughters room...too much junk!!
09-22-2003, 02:30 AM
Close-Up Of Bed. We HAD a sheer curtain over it but the KITTEN decided she wanted no curtains and kept tearing it down...ugh!! But she's adorable anyhow..meow!! The quilts you see hanging on the wall and on the bed are home made by my mother-in-law. Beautiful. I couldn't sit still long enough to sew a button let alone a quilt! :stars:
09-22-2003, 02:33 AM
Kids Dresser...Passed down from her grandma (Mother-In-Law). Grandma had it when she was a little girl so this dresser is at least 50+ Years old. Sure don't make them like they use too..
09-22-2003, 09:52 AM
Wow, great pics!! I love your daughters room, what great stuff she has! Makes me wish I were a kid again, lol.
And the cactus are beautiful!
But I must say I laughed so hard when I saw your rat bath!!!!
Your husband is talented!! Can he draw chicks? :p
09-22-2003, 10:38 AM
Yea he can draw chicks!! He can draw cartoony chicks or cutesy chicks or...humm I better ask him what he can draw. I'll bug him about it. He just got a ½ page cartoon published too! The funny thing is now all of a sudden everyone is noticing his drawings and they have asked him to be the President of the local chapter here for his profession, and he has had people from all over the world asking him to draw things for their businesses, etc. It's been great for him! And he has done all of them for free...sucha nice guy..(ha ha most of the time!)
His mother made us a chicken quilt! It's in the wash right now but after it's done I will take a pic for ya.
