Just popping in to say hello. :) Jen-L, welcome back!! I'm so glad to see that your kids are both doing so well and I definitely want to see pictures!! I must have missed when you posted pictures before.

OK, I gotta work, but did at least want to say welcome back to Jen. :)

Daphne: You crack me up. "I was so happy I could pee." Made me smile on what so far has been an yucky day. People in my office make b*tching an art form around here, and it's in full form today. I already want the day to be over and it's not even noon. I'm also thinking about using my WI pass at my WW meeting tonight. I haven't done well at all this week, and I think I'm up a few pounds. (HOW can that happen in a few days???) My stomach has also been hurting. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop me from eating.

Good luck today, Lynnie! Sounds like we all need a little kick in the rump. I know I do.

Wow, slow day today. I had last night off from 2nd job and got rid of the whiney cat that's been keeping me awake. So it was nice to sleep all night and it's nice to have open windows again. I've decided to find a meeting and get back into it for September, I thought I'd be better over the summer but I totally sucked and didn't get anywhere near my pants. it's so hard when I have no time to plan and cook. I tried the low carb thing and it just made it worse so, back to the old tried and true. I hope everyone has a great day! I'll check in later to see if more people have shown up!

Wow, it is an epidemic. Crappy day for me too. My job is sucking even more. WE just re-negotiated our contract and their proposal SUCKED and yet it got voted in. Huh??? I don't get it. Needless to say that along with my killer sinus headache has made me an emotional wreck SO dh said to meet him and we would go out to lunch HOWEVER instead of being sympathetic he actually said "you can't feel sorry for yourself, blah blah blah!" He of course apologized and realized he was being an insensitive
#%$&* But damage was done and now I want to curl up and go to bed. I was going to skip dinner with my girlfriend and ladies fellowship at church but I decided if I truly wallowed all night under my covers I would probably just add to my depressed state. So that is my day. I hope I didn't depress anyone it is just that venting here has become somewhat therapeutic at this point.

Kim hope your day gets better. I feel your pain!

Kieri~Good luck on the offer!!

KT~ Good decision.

Daphne, Lynnie Jess HI!

OK we need our Question of the day still I see. So wht was the last thing that you bought that was a splurge?

I spent money last night on the WW digital scales along with the last 2 issues of WW magazine.
I also bought candles from the candle party.
Might not be exciting to anyone but me but it was with my meeting an almost 70 dollar day!

I have the best ever slurge - for my birthday, I bought myself a Kitchen Aid mixer. It's very nice, I like it a lot but haven't been home enough to use it.

Becky: Hee. Men being insensitive. The other day I was whining to DH about how I'm not enjoying being a reporter any more and I feel so unmotivated and his advice to me? Just do it, Kim! Yeah, if that were so easy ... Actually, I've been a busy bee at work this week, which is good, because there's a big meeting this afternoon to talk about byline counts. This actually terrifies me, because I'm a general assignment reporter, which means I don't have a daily reporting beat, like schools or police, etc., and I don't write as many stories. This is my fifth newspaper and I've never had a byline requirement before. Had I known all this, I probably wouldn't have taken this job. Add to that the fact that a massive newsroom reorganization about to happen might mean I end up in a different position.

I had been doing OK with work the past couple of weeks ... but now I'm a little stressball.

Daphne: Was it PartyLite? That stuff is so expensive and I confess, I like Yankee Candle better. But my co-workers have been going nuts with the candle parties lately and I've gotten a few things over the past few months.

But my splurge: This isn't a huge expense, but I rarely will go clothes shopping just for the sake of shopping. Usually I'll see something in Target and pick up something for myself (I haven't liked to shop since I've been heavy.) Anyway, I went into a dept. store two weeks ago to buy some Clinique stuff, and decided I wanted a pair of shoes. So I went and found some. It was fun ... and I also got them on sale for $22!

KT: I have no tolerance for low carbs. Gosh, I love carbs! And that's part of my problem ...

I went to buy a journal at WW today adn they said they aren't making them anymore. They said next week is a new program! Has anyone heard of this yet? Or perhaps I missed a previous discussion?

They said it'd still be points but with big changes....hmmmm....now I really want to know. I hope it isn't too much change...!!!:o

Splurge hmmmm....mine is a little embarrassing. DH had an old gameboy that he got out and he had Tetris. I became a little bit addicted but the old gameboy was on it's last legs so it was difficult to see. WELL last wknd during the black out he bought me a Gameboy Advance SP which has color and a light so you can play it anywhere :) I know it is dorky but that would be my splurge. It was $100.

Kim thanks for the reminder that it is not just MY husband. I don't do well with the whole "suck it up" pep talk. He feels horrible about it now though. HE SHOULD

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to catch up on the threads, but sorry to not address everyone individually. Ditto on the crappiniess, although it looks beautiful outside (sometimes I can walk past an office with on open door to get a glimpse of the outside world). My housing situation is still the same, nothing is on the market!! I got approved for a HUGE loan, like 5 times my salary, which is ridiculous. Just to give you an idea of the market in DC, a 750sq ft condo in the building next door to me went for $212,000. ONE BEDROOM!! So that's what I'm looking at ladies....it sucks. Anyway, I am now living hobo-style, as I like to call it. I brought a can of baked beans in to work for lunch, and I spent the other night skipping happy hour to roll up some pennies for extra spending money. Gotta love it. My job is totally pissing me off, and all I've been doing is stuffing my fave with the free chocolate that this lady keeps in her office here at work.

Anyway, to chime in from yesterday's convo, Laura, I also think you should keep things separate. My friend just went through all this crap of putting her BF on her cell phone plan, buying him all sorts of crap, lending him $$....and they broke up and now she's screwed. Her reasoning was that she figured they'd be together forever and it would eventually become "their" money. Not saying your man would be as scummy, but if the accounts are just to split bills and purchases then why not just split them from individual accounts, like roommates do. My real opinion on it is that the man should pay for everything, and your money should be all for you ;) A girl can hope, right?

Splurges are all relative I think, and I do love to shop and life here is just expensive in general ($80 for haircuts).....but my biggest unpractical splurge was buying a $180 pair of Gucci sunglasses this past winter. To put it in persepctive I spent only $20 more on my (new) couch at Ikea. Yes, my priorities are messed up, what can I say.

Oh, and I've heard the scoop on WW....not that I even do it, but from what I've heard, everyone will get a set # of points per day - say 24. On top of that you'll have a bank of points, say 35, to use throughout the week. Instead of adding up points it will be more like subtracting, and there wouldn't be extra banking. I think activity points are also out the window. This is just what I hear though.....

Yep, they're coming out with a new WW program. I've heard similar to what Lexxy said. I'm hoping that with the new program comes free registration-that's more money I can spend going to meetings.

Wow thanks for the info - I had no idea - hadnt heard anything in Canada here (well not me anyway). That sounds hard...but then again, I thought points would be hard, so who knows.

OK Lexxy - that is ridiculous. we paid $135000 Cdn for our 900 sq ft 2 bedroom condo! Yikes girl!

Wow! You guys have been lively today.

Hi Daphne & Lynnie.

Kierie - I have to spend my evening cleaning too. Good luck with the house.

KT - I agree. The 2 most important things to succeeding at weightloss are enough sleep and time to plan/cook. I never seem to have enough of either......

Becky & Kim - CB is just like your husbands when I complain about work or something. It's gotten to the point where I tell him in advance that all I want is sympathy and that he lowers himself on the good boyfriend scale if he is reasonable when I'm emotional.

Hey Belle & Jess. I'm glad to "see" both of you.

Lexxy - you are really going to hate me. I built 1036 sq ft house plus 200 sq ft attached garage on approx. 1/4 acre for roughly $98,000USD. Come to the midwest my darling.....

Spulrge: I bought a set of dishes a couple weeks ago. I haven't used them yet - they are in a corner of my bedroom as I haven't got cabinet space to store them in the kitchen.

I rejoined WW last night. New program doesn't roll out here until next week but I was afraid if I waited that I'd talk myself out of it. I even prepaid for 13 weeks because I was afraid I'd quit going if I paid on a weekly basis. I'll laugh if the program operates like Lexxy discribed because I used to do that on my own.

Hope all is well with each of you.

Laura

The new plan is this:
You now get 2 points above what your minimum is. For me at 227 pounds I am now on 26-31 points. I will now have 28 points a day to use. I also have the option of using the 35 flex points any way that I want to. I can save them for one hugh meal or use 5 extra a day. Using the 5 extra points a day would give me a total of 33 points a day. It boils down to you can basically have 2 more points a day over your max. points right now. The 35 can be used when and how you want. If we follow WW rules we will no longer be at the bottom of the old points range which is 26 for me I will have to have the other 2 points. 1 point is around 50 calories so we will be eating at least 100 calories a day over what we had as minimum.
They are also going to push more whole grains and stuff like that. They will be dealing with more health related areas also. Gee if they are going to worry about the whole grains and less refined sugars and stuff like that what will happen to their Frozen Foods? That stuff although handy is loaded with carbs and stuff!
Does that help any?
Daphne

Remember me?! Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Between school, work and my social life  I just don't have much free time. I tend to lurk occassionally to try to keep up with everyone's lives, but it is hard sometimes. :dizzy: There are so many times I want to chime in with my opinion and then something happens at work and I forget to come back.

To try to address everyone individually would be difficult so I'll just say congrats to the new mommies, pregnant girls, engaged girls, co-habitating girls etc. Cheer up to all of you crabbies! ;) Hi and welcome to all of you that I haven't met.

Thnigs are great with me. I am about to start my second year of law school and finished my first year in the top 8% of my class, so I am doing well. I just bought a condo that is within walking distance of my office and I love it!

Lexxy - I feel your pain. I live in Chicago and one bedrooms run well over $200k. But if you like city living, it is worth the price - at least to me. Hang in there - your financial siuation will improve.

Oh, and I am running a half marathon in 2 weeks! I have been training all summer and can't wait.

Hi to all! I'll try to come around more often.

Wow, I was hit hard at work with stuff to do and never got here to post. I am so tired now.

Splurges... well mine was a cheap one. I had to run out at get some more undies for Emma (potty training...) and they had everything on clearance. I bought a pair of casual jean capris for 5.99... a pair of khaki short for 9.99 and a pair of workout shorts for 6.49. Hubby also got 2 pairs of shorts for under 10.00. I LOVE doing that.

Other than that, I am exhausted and can't wait to go home in 45 minutes.

Last summer when mom and sis and I wanted to go to paris it is the most inaccessible city 2 accessible metro stations (that don't connect to eachother let alone anything else and no accessible public trans. so we couldnt go b/c of my wheelchair or rather France's Arse backwardness I hate when governmental bodies only look to make change if something traumatic happens.

JenK - I was just thinking about you earlier! Glad you love the condo. Good luck in the 1/2 marathon. Good luck with year #2 of law school!

JenL - Isn't it the best when you buy 10 million things for the price you usually spend on one or two?

Kierie - Any word on the house yet?

Belle2000
08-21-2003, 07:07 PM
Daphne - wow, that is quite a shift. So do you HAVE to use all 35 or can you do without them?

I wonder why we are late getting it rolled out here?

Hi Jen2 - I was wondering what happened to you - the Jens are back!! ;)

Kier - is it 10000 now? I had heard 5000...yikes, that is incredible!

Well, I must go get a few last minute things done before I get to leave work...:p

Welcome back JenK! I'm so happy :) everyone's coming back. Kirsty pops in every now and then, but Lollie hasn't been here in a long time. Kirsty, if you're lurking, how's Lollie??

Re: The new WW plan. I'm worried. On my bad weeks, I probably eat about 5 points over my max (27). And on those weeks, I don't lose. But they want me to eat that much?

Belle2000
08-21-2003, 08:01 PM
Hey - Kim, I totally know what you mean. I find I eat about 35pts/dayon my "naughty" days. THat is about 5 more. ANd on those kind of weeks, I don't lose. So, I dont' know how that'll work for me either. Although, I don't mind upping my minimum, as I rarely eat the min - I am about 26-27 on "good" days.

And no activity points, eh? People were probably over-estimating on teh activity adn they figured theyd give us a big lot to spend that would keep us more in check.

Well, I must go get b/f....ready for home now!

Belle2000
08-21-2003, 08:02 PM
Kim - I asked Kirsty about Lolly awhile back. Seems like she got married and then dropped off the planet!!??

Also, Stacey is gone...and Lisa too. And where's Tonya been?

Oh well...off I go. for real this time.

dabrat
08-21-2003, 08:22 PM
You still get activity points but u have to use them that day. Take your daily minimum points and add 2 to that. That is your base plan. You will then have the OPTION of using the 35 flex points a week.
Better now?

Welcome back jen K and Jen L...Jen K WTG on the half marathon-I would love to do that-the Y here has a training group but they run at 6am! plus, no running for me right now-still recovering from stitches in a place where no woman should ever have them!!! Also, with breastfeeding, the boobs are out of control heavy-I'd need like 3 or 4 bras to have enough support to go running LOL!!!

jen L-I missed the pictures! post them again, please. Regarding finances, I would keep things separate with maybe a joint account for the joint things. DH and I essentially do that-we each have our own checking, but all of the accounts are linked so we can transfer money in and out of each others' accounts. That way I have a little bit of psuedo privacy-he doesn't know what i spend to get my hair done, for example!!! he could if he took the time to look at the individual withdrawls from my account, but he doesn't!

As for a splurge, I have to say recently it was the prenatal massages I was getting. For future splurges, some new clothes before I go back to work this fall, and laser hair removal for hair on my chin. i had started with treatments and then I got pregnant....

So there is a new WW program??? I guess I'll find out all about it when i rejoin in a few weeks....
