I used to get the one-piece-with-shorts deals, but they're hard to find now.
Tankinis - the tanks ride up when I'm active in deep water. Anyone know of one that doesn't ride up when you're actively swimming and treading water in deep water?
Skirts...ugh. They're not long enough. Can anyone recommend a suit with a skirt that is long and doesn't cling up so you have to hold it down when wet?
By the end of the summer, I'm going to need suits in sizes 14 or 12 that have excellent thigh coverage. I'm getting worried.
Can you wear a regular one piece with swimming shorts/skirt on top? That way you can buy the shorts or skirt separately (I see lots and lots of options online). You're really not going to find a tankini that is comfortable to swim in IMO.
I found similar things to what berry posted above, but they tend to be very very expensive for anything worth a damn. You should be able to get some cheap separates. Check eBay too since you expect to be moving through sizes quickly.

I didn't think of that! I can get a regular suit and put shorts over it! Duh!
I will check ebay. I am going to start listing a bunch of my clothes tomorrow, so I'll do some hunting when they sell. I always spend my ebay money on clothes.
The women at my pool who wear tankinis are chasing toddlers. (EYE would feel uncomfortable bending over that much in those skimpy bottomed tankinis! )
I found my suit at JCPenny--they have a decent amount of clothing for tall ladies like me. It covers thighs pretty well, but definitely not as much as these aquatards. I may buy one of those--not sure how long my suit is going to last....DH keeps "helping me" by putting my suit in the dryer!
I find easiest thing is one piece swimsuit with shorts... I don't even get swim shorts. Got to a sports store and find a pair of like, black legging/shorts, those tight active wear shorts and wear those. No one knows the difference on the beach, in the water, etc. I find them easier because they are usually really cute looking, and they are long enough, unlike swim stuff which I find isn't really designed to do what you want.they ride up, or aren't really made to cover anything.
Active wear is also really comfortable swimming.. They hug the body and don't chafe between the legs from being loose.

BTW I swim in a tankini because I am tall and one pieces don't stretch far enough for my torso. I either risk being topless or having a thong wedgie. I have no issues swimming in my tankini.

Do you swim in deep water, stop and tread water and then swim some more? And it doesn't ride up? All of my Tankinis would twist when I did and then ride up while I was treading water. If you got a good one, what kind was it?
I got them because a friend swore by them and promised they didn't ride up in deep water. Then she went with me and it turns out that she can't swim. "Swimming in deep water" to her is "standing in chest or neck-high water." She said they didn't ride up in deep water, lol, but she doesn't actually swim in it.
I was a little miffed. Quietly, silently. I got over it. She meant well and didn't understand the difference between standing where she does and swimming in water that's 20+ feet deep. I wasted nearly $200 on suits that I can't really use, though.
That's why I have to ask if you really swim in them.
