Default Started yesterday

Hi, I'm a woman in my 50s from the northeast and it's my first time doing SBD--just started yesterday. My DW just started today. She just learned she is prediabetic and has high cholesterol. I already received that bad news a few months back. So it's good that we are both doing SBD together.

Given that I am a known sugar addict and have yo-yo dieted since the age of 10, I'm hopeful that this will improve my health. I don't really intend to get down to a specific goal weight. I just want to reduce my osteoarthritis pain and curb my carb cravings. There's a strong chance I have gluten issues based on family history and my own reaction to it. So once we are out of Ph 1, DW will have some multigrain foods containing wheat, but I will not.

I've already learned a lot reading some of the stickies. Looking to give and receive encouragement. Thanks!

I have also had to eliminate gluten. It really seems to drive my inflammation crazy.

This is a great place. Hope you join us in the daily

S/C/G: maintaining

Default

Welcome!

I guess I'd now describe myself as a recovered yo-yo dieter; I went down and up for years and years. But I now consider myself maintaining and continue to follow SB most of the time.

Last year I went off gluten to see if it would help significant joint issues I was having and, amazingly, after about 3 weeks, my aches vanished! I stayed GF for a while but am now at a point where I can eat it in moderation with no ill effect on my joints. My SIL has a theory about it actually having been leaky gut that is now healed thanks to the GF eating.

Thanks everyone! I have a hunch the gluten is linked to my joint inflammation issues and IBS. A family member eliminated gluten and a lot of similar issues were resolved.

WaistingTime I've heard your SIL's theory once before from a naturopath. Could be--I have no idea and didn't look much further into it. I just know I feel better when I don't have a lot of carbs and sugar.

I need to figure out how to put a progress bar on my siggy and all that neat stuff. I think the system makes newbies wait a bit to do that, not sure. I don't have a working scale so I am only guessing what I weigh. It could even be more.

By the way, the stats I'm seeing here are impressive! Gives me some hope.

Thanks again.

I too am a yo-yo dieter. SBD has been the only thing that works for me. When I go off plan it's because I convince myself I can do it another way, knowing full well I can't.

Been back on the beach since January and have lost 30 pounds. Please post often! It helps.

Hi everyone! I just started yesterday too...Hoping I can survive it this time. I just really love my carbohydrates but I'm at my heaviest and can't stand the feeling of it anymore.
Looking for encouragement and to give encouragement along the way~

Welcome meeko99 you have come to the right place. This is a very positive group. Check in often as it really helps. The recipe sections are great to help keep your food choices from getting boring. I'm not going to lie, but P1 can be tough as your body adjusts. Just hang in there the results are worth it!

Just popping in to introduce myself. I have done SB diet before (2007) and lost 40 lbs. Well they found me again, so I am determined to give it another go and hopefully not let them find me again. I'm ending day 3 and have done pretty good. Got some great ideas for meals, etc from the board and now I am armed and ready.
