Hello everyone:wave:

I am looking for suggestions for portable lunches. I brown bag my lunch to work everyday but I am tired of eating the same salad/ fruit all the time and I also feel that I am not eating enough at lunch as I am starving by 4 p.m.

I don't have access to a microwave but do have access to a small fridge at work and I have a good stainless steel thermos for the winter.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks :D

I know what you mean-salads get borring after a while, try adding new stuff to them, like peas, sunflower seeds, meat, boiled eggs.

How about making some chicken breasts at home (leftovers from supper) and putting it on a light bun with let/tom/onion/etc.

Fruit salads are also good.

Open a can of tuna and mix with mayo/onion/celery/etc.

Pretzels and salsa would be a filling and have with fruit or a slim fast candy bar.

A Slim fast shake is good on warm days. Shake it up with ice!

Try making other sandwiches and use tortillas instead of bread. I like deli-select brand meats with lite cream cheese and a pickle spear.

I have a big sweet tooth, so I make alot of the low point cakes or have graham crackers with lite cherry pie filling-some times that is my lunch!

Keep V-8 in the fridge for when you get hungry between meals.

Best of luck!

Thanks Idealperson! :D

I forgot about V-8's - they are quite filling and a great way to get in an extra serving of veggies!

Any other suggestions would be great- I feel like I am stuck in a rut lately, which leads to me getting bored and cheating. I ended up buying a buttertart at lunch time this week

Would the people in your office consider putting in a few bucks to purchase a microwave-it wouls help out everyone?

Cereal with milk is also a filling nutritious lunch...

I'll keep thinking...

We've already asked and were told that the bosses don't want a microwave in the office because they don't want the smell of food cooking to permeate the office  but if you get takeout you can smell it in the office anyway :?: whatever!

It is in luncheon meat section in a package (not sure maybe Maple Leaf) but they are 3 slices for 1 point. Also have turkey, ham & bologna. Hope this helps.

Today for lunch I had Signature meatballs frozen dinner (4 Pts) and added some nuked frozen veggies (O Pt) melba toast (4 slices for 1 Pt) and a little becel (.5 pt) = 5.5. Pts.

You really need a microwave - so many more options.

For breakfast today I had a "breakfast pita" and toasted it in oven and it was very good (3 Pts) and very filling.

I'm a firm believer that the occasional hot fudge sundae will not only not kill me but allow me to keep on plan. I replace supper with it and do count the points. I'm a Baskin and Robbins person myself.

I have had a terrible, stressful week and have been completely off plan -I barely ate anything on Monday, yesterday I had a chocolate bar and a cup of tea for lunch and then a McChicken sandwich meal and diet coke for dinner at midnight :p I think this week is a write off since there is just too much going on right now.

I am going grocery shopping on Saturday am to stock up on healthy foods and pick up a few of the items you have suggested for lunches next week.

Back OP on Saturday! :)

Sometimes Life Happens and well good intensions don't work. I find that the longer I wait after one of those Life Moments the more excuses I can make for never getting back on plan. The best thing for me (even if I'm busy) is to just start again the next day. On a really busy week that can mean frozen dinners or cold cut and bread lunches because there just isn't any time for something more fancy.

Good luck.

Hi everyone:

Today I am having Lean Cuisine canneloni (5 Pts) with melba toast (4 slices = 1 Pt) and becel .5 Total 6.5

Mauv - you gotta get a microwave!

Over the weekend, I had salad with fresh shrimp on it and some light Italian dressing (12 medium shrimp = 1 Pt) and that is alot of shrimp. So with dressing it is still a really low point lunch and really good & filling.

Hope everyone has a "nice lunch" :-)

I make up a huge thing of ratatouille every week to get rid of all the produce that we grow. I love it cold and warmed.

Today we're having it with pasta, some pistou (no cheese)and rat
and one small donut peach for a nice six point lunch.

Add some nice greek olives to make it even zestier, but remember to add those points!

I have 1/2 a cup of 2% milk (I can't drink skim) over 1 cup of cereal in the morning and I have 1 cup of non-fat yogurt as a snack at work everyday.

Whenever I have salad I throw in an ounce of low fat cheese cut up or shredded for some color and flavor.

My aunt had osteoporosis in her ankles and my mum has athritis in her knees so I make sure I have at least 2 servings of calcium rich dairy, eat a lot of leafy green vegetables and I do a lot of walking. I also take a multi vitamin everyday. :)

Today for lunch I am having 1/2 can tuna with a little light mayo

Today to get my calcium I microwaved 1 cup skim milk and add 1 tsp of instant decaf coffee & a little sweetener. This tastes like a fancy type of thing. Sipped on it on the drive to work.
Also brought a cheese string for pm snack with some grapes.
So that is 2 calciums today. But, I have a question?

Does the Kashi Go-Lean Crunch cereal count as a "fortified" cereal? If so, I can count it also as a calcium. I brought this for my breakfast (2/3 cup = 2 Pts) and ate it dry and it was sooo good.

Are you doing the "flex thing"??
Kinda like a snacky thing

Happy Thursday! Today for lunch I am having Dannon Lite Vanilla Yogurt with some Kashi in it and a sliced nectarine for 4 pts. I am saving up for eating out tonight. I plan on having panfried walleye pike, a baked potato with butter and a big salad for about 17 points. Drinking lots and lots of water!

I am doing the flex points-is anyone else? How was your first weigh in?

mauvaisroux
09-04-2003, 02:35 PM
I am doing flex-points too but have not weighed in yet- the WW meeting was canceled for Labour day so I don't weigh in until Monday. I have not been very good at journalling so far :( but I think I will buy the 12 week journal which I think will be better for me.

I don't think something that is "fortified" counts as an actual serving of calcium, but then I could be wrong  I am pretty sure that you have to have dairy or a dairy product like low-fat yogurt, etc. and the milk you have with the Kashi definetely counts :)

Idealperson
09-04-2003, 03:35 PM
mauv... my weigh in is the same as yours, so I can't wait until Monday to get feedback from the others at WW. My journaling is as good as before either and I am planning on buying the other book this week. Let me know how it goes for you...I have been too flexible this week and don't think I will see much in loss.

Hi everyone:

Well I ate my target points plus 20 of the flexpoints & was down 2.4# - so I was thrilled with that. Best loss I have had for awhile.
I have changed my w/i day to Thurs instead of Mon since I think it will work better for me since the weekends are my most challenging time.

Mauv - I bought some of the Simple Pleaure Chocolate cookies (2 cookies for 1.5 Pts) These are good by themselves or put some FF cool whip in between & freeze them = 2 Pts. Kinda like an ice-cream sandwich and great for chocolate snack.

Hope you ladies have a great weekend and w/i on Mon :-)

Bandit2, it's good to hear you had such great results on the new plan. Do you think it was the plan itself or that you were able to stay OP because you were inspired by the idea of a new plan? I didn't have any success with Winning Points...I just didn't feel inspired by that one, and for me half the battle is being motivated enough to stick with it...whatever it is!

Anyway, this is encouraging news, and thanks!

I had a good lunch today, thought I would tell you about it since it wouldn't have occurred to me how healthy I could make this. We went to a Mongolian BBQ, where you choose a bowlful of stuff and then someone cooks it on a hot, circular grill.

I got about a palmful of seafood (scallops, calamari, a little fish), and then packed on the veggies. They had all kinds of 0 point veggies. Add a little sesame oil and LOTS of seasonings, and I had it good. I brought home half of it, skipped the rice.

That was fun. And since everyone picks what they want, nothing looks "normal" anyway, so you can go WW no problem.
