Question Low Carb Bread

Hi. I'm new to Phase 2 of South Beach, and am just now trying to locate a low carb bread for sandwiches. I see lots of mixes on the internet, but what I'm trying to find out is......Of the breads I can find in a normal grocery store, which ones have the lowest carbs? I'm interested not only in type, (ie. pumpernickle, rye) but also in a particular brand that might be better than others.

Thanks for your help. I don't think I can eat another salad!

Welcome to The Beach!

Concentrate on whole wheat breads, not looking for low carb. The higher the fiber, the better the bread for you so read the labels. On South Beach we do not count carbs but just make the healthiest selections. I love 12-grain with flax. Thre's no sense suggesting brands because I'm in Canada. Where are you, by the way?

Thanks for the reply. I'm in Virginia. Before South Beach I typically ate Pepperidge Farm stone-ground whole wheat, but have been noticing on some low-glycemic web sites, that even those can raise your blood sugar levels. (obviously not like white, but still!) Pumpernickle seems to be better, and is a nice alternative, but I prefer wheat breads, and am just trying to find someone who has done some research, and found one that is lower in carbs than than most.

I bought some Low Carb bread, (Fit for Life brand) in the health food section at my grocery store, but the taste isn't great, and the texture is worse! I figure if someone has figured out how to make low carb cereal taste so great (Uncle Sam...yum!), then someone must have figured out how to make bread lower in carbs and taste good!

Any ideas out there? Thanks!
