-My fall-back career if I decide to stay in film would be porn director. Yep, true! Heck, I watch enough of them to know which ones are bad.

OK,

Here's the truth about my dad:

He was a television evangelist; he is an awarding-winning magician and has written a popular book called, _The Comedy Magic Textbook_ (popular among magicians. not a New York Times best seller). And the Pat Boone thing is true.

But, he thinks playing cards is OK. It's a good thing, because he uses them a lot in magic tricks.

My Truths:

I have done missionary work in Haiti.

Yes. When I was in college, I spent Christmas vacation working in an orphanage in Port Au Prince, then up in a mountain village for a week. Talk about an eye-opening lesson in how rich I really was! The denomination I went with was hyper-conservative, so the girls in the group could not preach or teach to men. The boys in our group did some evangelizing, and we girls worked primarily with the children but also with some of the women. We also got our first exposure to "real" voodoo (as opposed to what I had seen in Live and Let Die, the only movie before then that I had watched that had any hint of voodoo in it). Due to the conservatism of the country itself, we girls had to wear skirts all the time. This was a real change for me. It really made me try to look at myself and my culture through others' eyes. It was an exercise in diversity before diversity was cool. /grin

I performed in the Soviet Union with a dance troupe before I was 15.

Yes, a group of children dancers from my home town of Muskegon Michigan toured Russia and Poland in 1998. I was 14. We saw Lenin's corpse in his tomb in Red Square and stayed in lots of old, gray hotels with bad elevators. We ate thin soup and drank very sweet hot tea. We toured a couple of summer camps for teachers (they all vacationed together -- remember, this was back in the Soviet days) and performed for a bunch of kids groups. I've forgotten what they were called, but it was like the Young Communists or something. They all dressed alike with red scarves, and did fun things together and went to camp together. LIke Girl Scouts. Or Hitler Youth. /chuckle Moscow was going to host the Olympics two summers from then (1980), and they had all sorts of pins and promotional stuff. The Soviets made a hobby of collecting pins. Every city and place we went, you could buy a little pin to put on your hat or coat. Now, it reminds me of medieval pilgrimage medals, but at the time it was just a cool thing to do. I think by the end of the trip I had about 40 of them from different places.

After Russia we went to Poland. From Krakow we toured Birkenau and Auschwitz (http://www.scrapbookpages.com/Poland/Auschwitz/Auschwitz01.html). Our younger dancers could not tour it. You had to be 13 to take the tour. It affected me deeply, and fueled a life-long interest in Judaica and Christian/Jewish history, interaction, and theology. Then on to Zelazola Wola to visit the birthplace of Chopin (http://www.wojciulewicz.org/sightseeing/Warszawa6.htm).

It was a group called the Maycroft Square Tappers, and we responded to called square dance calls while doing a precision tap step. Somewhat like clogging. I've never seen another group like it. I was involved in the group through Jr. High and early High School. I danced for four hours straight every Saturday -- I helped teach the beginning classes, and continued to the advanced. Yes, we had to wear the square dancing dresses. And those annoying pompons on our tap shoes. Dancers ranged from 4 to 18 or so. Here's the only picture of Square Tappers I could find on the web. The group may have gone defunct. http://www.mppa.org/members/derekpruitt/3.html

I have sat on the Floor of the House of Representatives (NOT the visitor's gallery).

Yes. After I graduated college with a degree in Political Science, I came to Washington as an intern for Congressman Vander Jagt. They loved me, 'cause I could pronounce all the Dutch names of their constituents. /grin It was a pretty basic job -- run errands, type letters, answer phones. But it was wonderful. Part of being an intern is that you participate in "educational" programs that allow you access to things no tourist can do. Our tour of the Capitol included entering the actual House of Representatives, and sitting in the Representatives' chairs. Talk about getting a shiver! But the coolest part was taking the underground trolley from the Capitol building to the House office buildings. /lol

LIE: I graduated from Julliard with a Bachelor of Music degree. I wish. I've been singing all my life, and took lessons for about six years. I'm a lyric soprano. I think of myself as a singer (hence the nick synger), and sing regularly. I could probably make a living singing professionally as a backup singer or doing jingles or something. But I never wanted to work that hard.

I've never seen No Doubt in concert, and it's a damn shame, after all the hours I've spent listening to their music. Their next tour, I will go, but the problem with that & the whole reason I've never seen them is I like their earlier stuff 10x better & they tend to just promote whichever album they're touring for. :( I miss Eric Stefani & his influence more than I can say.

Leno was filming a segment for his show @ the Matterhorn the day we were @ Disneyland. His chin looks a lot smaller in person. I like how no one thought I'd lie about meeting him.

I do indeed drive a Caprice. *sigh*

No, I didn't eat breakfast yesterday. Just wasn't hungry & although sometimes I force myself to have fruit & toast anyway, yesterday I just didn't. :(

Here is the TRUTH:

1 - I have a blue belt in karate

TRUE - I'm not really sure if it is still valid ;) since I haven't practiced karate since I was 16 (13 years ago!).

2 - My DB & I pay more in student loans than we do for our mortgage.

TRUE - sad, but true.

3 - I own a tiara (rhinestone of course).

Nah, I just wish that I had one! I had a room-mate who used to wear hers while she was cleaning!

4 - I am fluent in French.

TRUE - I did all of my pre-university education in French. Right now I spend about 30% of my work day in french.
Canada is an officially bilingual country, so it is quite helpful to have both languages when you work for the government.

Angi, I adopted my oldest son last fall when he was 31 years old. He was actually my stepson who had been adopted from Korea by his father (one of my three Jim's) and his father's first wife who abandoned him. I left his father, married my third and final Jim, and we stayed in close contact although his dad remarried the woman we lovingly refer to as "The Witch." After he turned 18 he moved in with my DH and me, even going with us when we moved to another state. It wasn't until I heard about someone in San Francisco who was trying to adopt an adult that we realized it could be done. We kept thinking that if something happened to him, we'd have no legal standing with him or our granddaughter. So I officially adopted him on October 18.

It was the judge's first adult adoption--and my attorney's, too. It was kind of fun watching all the people come out of the courtroom with their babies, and I'm going in with my 5'10" baby!

I work as a dog walker on weekends.- This is the lie.

Actually the lie is that Hallmark has accepted poetry from me. Bryan Adams did try to pick me up on my 21st birthday in a club named Ripleys in Philadelphia. I was thinner than with a punky hair cut. He came up and introduced himself -- which made me giggle and we got to talking until his manager called him. I think he thought I was jail bait. I looked 16 but was really 21. LOL. But that is the truth.

My lie: grand canyon raft trip (altho I did hike the canyon when I was MUCH younger).

I did go to 22 schools before I graduated high school. Unbelieveable, even to me. And I was a granny at 44. And I did get an up close and personal encounter (with a wink) from Sir Paul McCartney in England. << sounds of teenage-like screaming>>

It is true that I have lived overseas...i've spent 1 year living in England.

It is true that I am half Nez Perce Indian. My brother is actually very involved in tribal activities....

It is true that I shared an office (only for the day) with Dr. Weiman, winner of the Nobel prize in physics last year. I worked with his brother in a previous job and he came and visited for the day. The only extra desk was in my office, so he hung out there. Therefore I am famous by association.

- I've been in 3 car accidents that resulted in the cars being totalled.
TRUE - sad but true
- I ran over 32 squirrels in the course of 2 days
TRUE! - It was squirrel mating season and we lived in the woods. I had to run out for about 10 errands because my mom was having a huge party and there were literally squirrels CONSTANTLY running across the street in front of you - I also got a good case of whiplash those days!

TRUE! The doctors think I'm allergic to something in the chemical processing - same reason I can't eat mayo!

It certainly improves your french to be able to immerse yourself in the language. You should definitely visit Montréal, if you go to Québec. Fantastic shopping, beautiful buildings, lots to see. Well, I just have to contribute.... lol. --We should do this again someday on another thread-- I guess pretty much ALL of them wrong, lol.

The 32 squirrels thing was just freaky... lol.

OK, here's mine:

1) My "huge" goal right now is to become Valedictorian.
2) I babysit for 2 former Real World cast-mates.
3) I have seen the movie "Titanic" 11 times.
4) I play the cello

Yippee! I got Jen's right. I don't like reality TV at all either.

Apryl, I'm going to say seeing Titantic 11 times is your lie.

Painterwoman and Krickett, I think #4 is the lie.

Well,

Someone guessed that my "lie" was being a skeet shooter ... nope, was darn good too :)

My "lie" was close to the truth. I DID work for the team that did the research/compilation of the data for the Truth In Packaging Bill (way back in 1963, the original Bill) but I did not co-author the bill :)

Lies are always best when close to the truth LOL
