Hi All,
Thanks for all the feedback/advice on Vegas hotels. Although I promised myself I would leave it for a while, I did do some more searching yesterday and I decided I want us to stay at the Renaissance Hotel near the Convention Center. It's a Marriott property (I'm a rewards member), and it's steps from the monorail to get to the Strip. No casino (my preference; we really don't gamble, plus my 10 year old) but they have a couple of nice restaurants. It's more expensive than hotels on the Strip, but I feel better with a 'known' quantity like Marriott and also I always get a bunch of freebies when we stay at a Marriott because I have a lot of points. Now just have to convince DH and DS that it is the best choice. I am sure I can work that out though!
I've stayed on plan since Monday, yeah for me. I'll weigh in tomorrow and see if I've lost anything, but because AF is still in residence the scale could easily lie...easily. I have some summer pants that are a touch too small so maybe I'll make these some goal pants for our Vegas trip. I also need to investigate some comfortable shoes. Are Birkenstocks terrible??? Everyone here in the city wears them all the time.
On the plate today: work, and then home. My goals at work are to tidy up my office and begin something called a Statement of Ownership (paperwork we have to file with the Post Office for one of our law Journals). Hope everyone has a great day!!
Good morning Matilda! Glad you found a hotel to stay at. Is this a pure fun or family trip? I admit, I don't have much interest in going to Vegas. I'm such a country girl.
This week is just plain crazy. I was sleeping awesome this AM, until DD woke up crying her tummy hurt, so I've been up since 5 am. Darned it! Last night I got some shopping done for camping and school, and tonight have PT. She's been having me do planks, which puts my neck into complete spasms when I'm done. Maybe I could just get a neck transplant?! (lol...I had a dream about doing that to a dog once...)
This morning I'm meeting a colleague from another clinic at Panera. We're leaving the emergency rotation, so I'm not sure she'll be happy with me!
Matilda, thanks for getting us started and I'm glad that you found your hotel in Las Vegas. It sounds like a really good choice to me.
Tammy, hope your day goes smoothly. I understand that being too busy thing. Hope DD is feeling better.
I'm heading up to my project for a couple of hours before we go to Home Depot this morning. I'm going to paint the base of the clawfoot bathtub with Rustoleum. It will be stinky for a while so I'll be glad to have something else to do. One step at a time this project will get finished.
It's tempestuous just a wee bit around here - a drizzle more than a tempest. (Why does it always seem to rain on trash days?) By the way Mathilda, the Getting Things Done book arrived yesterday. Looks interesting but I am going to take my time getting into it so maybe it'll sink in.
Twynn, hope DD's tummy settles fast. Sounds like your day is going to be busy as usual. Aren't planks a killer. Too bad my darned hammer toes won't let me do them anymore - not!
Debbie, and you are off and running again. I wish I had such good control of my time. (Maybe my new book will help.)
I'm off to Kingston this morning to see my periodontist for the every three months check-up. No doubt I'll get a lecture about not going ahead with the transplant as scheduled. I'll remind him that it's my money and my mouth, not his - maybe he doesn't look at it that way. The trip and appointment will knock at least three hours off my day but I will go to the Superstore when I'm in the city as the fridge is pretty bare of decent veggies. One cannot live on kale and green peppers alone! I'm also getting a hankering for some smoked haddock - who knew? Fish is NOT my protein of choice usually.
It's supposed to stop raining by noon so perhaps I'll get out to the front garden later. There is some cutting back to be done so my fall asters show up better. Time to switch the door decor to fall as well since our Thanksgiving is in three weeks. The trees are just starting to change and we hit freezing last night. So much for summer hanging around until the 21st!
Time to get a second coffee and make my shopping list. I'll try to remember to bring it along for a change. Have a great day!
Good morning early chicks!
Matilda, I belong to several hotel rewards plans but rarely seem to get the big perks. One of the best was a $50 Amazon gift card last year; I used it to load up my kindle with new books. Sounds like your plan is coming together.
Tammy, enjoy your breakfast meeting. I should do something about my core strength. I tried the plank challenge last winter but gave up when you were supposed to be holding for 4 or more minutes!
Debbie, you seem to do a great job managing all these projects. I had a claw foot tub in one of my apartments long ago and enjoyed it.
Need to fill my thermos and get ready. We are expecting frost tonight so after work I will have to check the garden to see if anything needs covering.
Eta- morning Ruth!
I'm glad you found a hotel, Matilda. Marriott is my very favorite hotel, I just love their dreamy beds, and they're always so clean. I thought Vegas was only for gambling, so what are your plans to do there?
Tammy, I hope DD's tummy is better. There's a tummy virus going around, and I had it the first part of this week. I would quit doing those planks if it bothers your neck so much, and let your trainer know. It's supposed to be a good weekend for camping, have fun!
Debbie, I hope your painting goes well. What all are you getting at Home Depot?
Today's my Friday, and I'm going to spend the day baking a triple batch of pumpkin bread. Each recipe makes 3 loaves, and I bake it in 1lb. coffee cans. Audrey voluntold me to make some for her class breakfast tomorrow, and Cindy needs her freezer supply replenished for the Fox Hunt, plus I promised Jake I'd bring a loaf home for him.
Maggie's orthodontist appt. went smoothly, and she looks adorable in her braces. She picked pink and green, and it looks like she's wearing tooth jewelry, lol! Of course we had to stop to get her a milkshake on the way home, but I refrained from getting one for myself.
I have a hair appointment after work today, and then my weekend begins!

Linda - I love pumpkin bread. I'm drooling over my keyboard as I smell it in my head.
I have an open calendar today. DH and I were going to hike but the trails are closed due to the recent rains. I have to make a trip to Costco pharmacy and to the grocery story. So I guess my first agenda item will be menu planning, which I always hate. And a nap would be great today; I woke up after very unrestful dreams.
Yesterday DH discovered that he was missing a credit card. After calling around, he found it at a restaurant where he took his mom on Tuesday. So after work he and I made the 45 minute drive there to pick it up. The only bright side was that we hadn't known that a nephew was in town visiting MIL, so we got to pop in and say "hi" before I nodded off in the car on the drive home.
Evening chicks long busy day at work. Matilda I love Keen whisper sandals. I wear them everyday in the summer. Today, don't tell, I wore them to work with socks!!! Yes I am a fashion nightmare. They are great because your toes are enclosed, but they are airy and keep me comfy
