Good morning to you all. I was able to turn off the ac last night, which is the first time in a couple weeks. I still don't have it on so maybe it will be a bit cooler today.

I found a bunch of old friends on facebook last night, which was a bit shocking. One had gained a ton of weight, one had lost her little girl chubbiness and is a beautiful grown up lady now, some kids have graduated, married and had children, a couple friends are now grandparents and or inlaws, etc. We have lived down here for 14 years so it is no surprise that kids are now grownups and our friends are now parents of grown ups. I showed Jack some pictures and he was shocked at some as some of the kids were toddlers when we moved down here. Of course, our oldest grandson was a newborn when we moved down here and he is in high school now. Old age does catch up with you.

I am going to work on the downstairs some today. I have the mopping and vacuuming and dusting done so basically it is cleaning countertops, appliances and that sort of thing and cleaning the bathroom. Tomorrow is nails and toes day so nothing with get done, but then on Friday I will tackle the upstairs again.

I have an eye apt on Monday thank goodness. These contacts I have on now are just not strong enough and are driving me nuts. I have been wearing my glasses on and off, but they don't have bifocals in them so either I have to take them off or put a pair of readers over the top of them.

Hope everyone is doing fine. You all have a great day. Faye

Good Morning! It's another beautiful day in my neighborhood. I've been to get a haircut, put a load in the washer and dryer, and now waiting to leave for my lunch bunch. Our group is dwindling; one gal hasn't come for several months, another one's husband is going to Omaha for doctor appointments, and a third one is developing memory problems due to mini strokes. I think there will only be three of us today. This afternoon I need to return library books and stop by the Hallmark store to look at Christmas ornaments for the grandkids. Little Kitty has had more kittens. :( She showed up very late, very hungry, and skinny last night.

"Gma," thanks for starting the new thread for us! :) I've had a couple FB friend requests from people I've never heard of. Also one from a former student who was a total jerk in school. Needless to say I ignored them all. I was having trouble with my eyes watering so went back on the allergy med which I quit thinking it wasn't working. I could tell a difference within a few hours. I'm doing nails tomorrow too. :D

I need to change clothes and head for lunch. Enjoy a wonderful Wednesday! :)

Good morning gals. Just a fast check in as I have to leave in 15 minutes to go to the post office then to get my nails done. I like to be there before they open so I can be first one in.

Started some laundry this morning and will finish it throughout the day when I am home. I will finish up cleaning I guess tomorrow.

Jean: Jack has started giving me bridge lessons and I bought two books, a kindle version of Bridge for Dummies and a paperback one Jack wants that is some guy Jack says is the best to learn from. I guess this guy is dead and has been for a long time, but he says it is the best so here we go. It will take me a long time because there is so much memorization for bidding. I am pretty sure I bought this book for Jack a few years ago, but I can't find the darn thing. Hope your day goes well. I am doing purple nails and toes today.

Everyone have a good Thursday. Faye

Good morning, ladies! Another lovely day in the 70s. This is unusual for August in Tidewater Virginia. Someone said that this nice August means we'll be having a hard winter.

I got my haircut yesterday so I can spike it again. I love keeping it very short for I'm in the water 5 days a week at the Y. Today I had an appointment at the research center. Monday was applique bee at Bella Fabrics and tomorrow night is lock-in so a lot of fun this week.

Faye, I'm no good at cards. No matter how much I try or how good the people are who try to teach me, I just can't get it. Except for solitaire. I wish I could play bridge. It's a big thing here and they even have a facility where they play. I love getting a mani and pedi. The place where I go is run by orientals who think they speak English but I only understand about every tenth word. They are excellent and that is what I want.

Jean, you're getting good with the books at church and the gift shop. It's too bad you don't get paid. I guess hair and nails is on all our minds this week.

Maggie, I'm glad Will is home from the hospital and pray for his speedy recovery.

Have a wonderful day!

Good Morning! It's another nice cool, NO wind, morning although the sun has disappeared. I've been to get my nails done and returned the cat chore key. The "mom" was home and the cat peeked around the corner then took off. I'm guessing she recognized my voice and thought her family was leaving her again. I stopped by the grocery store to get a ham like we had the other night before Zowie's play. There weren't many to choose from and all way too big for the two of us, even freezing part of it. So, no ham today.

"Gma," is your nail salon a "walk in" only? I try to be first too! We can make appointments but if they are working on someone, we wait. We tried to learn how to play bridge when we were first married, and gave it up in the interest of staying married. We do play 500, gin rummy, and pinochle years ago. Over the years bridge lessons have been given here, but they were always when we couldn't go. Good luck!

Susan, you have a few busy activities coming up. :D Yesterday at lunch, one of the gals said she has seen wooly caterpillars which supposedly means a hard winter ahead. I hope not.

I need to put some folded laundry away and think about something for lunch. Hope you all enjoy a terrific Thursday!

Good morning gals. It has been much cooler in the mornings here but cranks up by afternoon. It is enjoyable not having to run the ac overnight and in the mornings. We save a lot of money that way on our utility bill.

Got my nails done and errands yesterday and we grabbed a deli sandwich we can put into our points and came home and had dinner. It was so nice and quiet her last evening.

Today is tackle cleaning kitchen countertops, stove, micro etc and tomorrow I will tackle the upstairs while Jack is at the dealership getting some recall sensor replaced. It has to do with the power steering. We haven't had trouble, but it is free and we don't want to have trouble down the road so he will go and get it done.

I have started moving clothes, shoes and hygiene type stuff downstairs to start packing. I try to keep climbing the stairs to a minimum until I get this darn hernia repaired. I don't know except for heavy coughing and lifting what can cause problems. I put together a basket full of stuff and Jack carries it downstairs and I have the couch lined up with clothing "sets" I am taking and on the floor is bags with the hygiene stuff so I can make sure it is on the list to cross off when I pack it. I will do my packing down here as it is easier for me.

Please keep my son in your prayers. He went to the doctor's yesterday to schedule a vasectomy and they found an inguinal hernia in his groin so he has to have surgery Sept 16. Same type as I have except in men it is usually in the scrotum area. They said his was congenital, but I would think his jujitsu wouldn't have helped that much with the throwing people and such. His wife and son are in Mexico and he sounded so down yesterday I told his dad to call and talk to him tonight and cheer him up. For a guy who waited until his 30's to get married and loved his bachelorhood, he loves his wife and son and sure does miss them. He is a big tough guy and I think finding something wrong with him shocked him too. Mama isn't always the solution sometimes you have to talk to a man so hopefully dad can do the trick.

We got an email a good 6 months ago from ATT, which handles our internet about U-verse so Jack called and got this obnoxious customer service guy who wouldn't take no for an answer when we told him we didn't want phone service or U-verse tv. Jack hung up on his finally. Yesterday I got an email that said they were switching our area to U-verse fiber optic in 45 days and would lose internet service if we didn't call to switch. I dreaded it, but I told Jack when I called I would make it perfectly clear from the beginning, which I did. The gal was a lot nicer and though she had to make the pitch I told her we had direct tv for 14 years and were perfectly happy with it and did not want landline phone service. She let it go and set us up so next week our speed will double and we won't have to have separate modem and the netgear thingy, one box will do both. I am hoping it will solve our problems because we have had a lot of problems in the last 6 months with logging on and netgear dropping etc. I guess this area has become pretty heavy usage and she said that is what is causing our problems. We get it $15 cheaper than what we pay now for a year then the regular price is only $2 more than we pay now so that is ok if we have better service and faster speed.

Susan: My nail salon are all Vietnamese and they wear masks so it is doubly hard to understand them sometimes. I am pretty good with accents so I have adapted to them pretty well. The American Contract Bridge League, which is the major association for contract bridge has their offices here in Memphis. You can actually take lessons there, but Jack knows how to play and so he is going to teach me and when we get back we are going to set up games and practice, which he said is the best way to learn since I have a couple fundamentals under my belt already. My next hair apt is the Friday before we leave. With the heat the way it is, I need to get it colored a few days ahead of time so it "sets" and when I sweat the color on my neckline doesn't run onto my shirts and make them pink. Washing it about 4-5 times seems to do the trick. Even expensive coloring you have this issue.

Jean: I would have to go over pinochle again, but I learned to play back when Jack was first in the Navy and loved it. Navy guys are big double deck pinochle players and we used to go house to house on weekends since we all didn't have any money. We would all bring eats and have a night of it. Just ourselves and one other couple had kids and Jay was a newborn and her little girl was around 1-2. Bless her heart. I remember her sitting in the back seat of our little Vega coaching me on the way to the hospital when Jay was born. We moved when Jay was 4 months old or so and never saw any of them again. I am pretty good at gin rummy. I play against a computer person online all the time and am pretty good at Euchre too though no one knows how to play that down here it seems. My nail salon is in the Walmart and is walk in though they take appts. I don't make an apt because like you, you sit and wait anyway so why do it. I can't do pedicures anymore because I can't hold up my knee that long for them to work on the bottom of my foot and heel. The gal who did the polish change yesterday even cut my toenails for me, which is great because I don't cut them square like they are supposed to and this way they grow out without making ingrown toenails. I went with purple nails and toes and then painted sparkles on top when I got home.

I guess I should go girls and test my blood and make myself some breakfast. I need to put in my points for the day too before I do anything. You all have a great weekend. We have commissary shopping this weekend and you know how I love that! Faye

Good Morning! We got up to rain this morning, and "something" in the live trap. Someone told Bob to cover it and maybe Little Kitty would go in. It turned out to be a baby possum who now resides where Bob took all the other critters. I've been to the clinic for lab work and go back for a physical at 9:30. They have a new computer system which means hurry up and wait at the desk. Ian is supposed to have a football scrimmage this afternoon. I wouldn't feel bad if they got rained out. All of his games are on Thursdays at 6, 7, or 7:30. Most are at 7:30 which is too late on a school night imo, and too late for us driving home. Amanda said parents weren't happy either. Soccer games are Mondays and Thursdays, 5:30 or 6:30. They are closer to home so they aren't so bad.

"Gma," the humidity is on the rise here. I wouldn't be surprised if the air is on later today. How do you keep your cruise clothes from being wrinkled? I read a hint to use dry cleaner bags between layers. I hate it when sales people won't take no for an answer. I've hung up on a few over the years. I would need a refresher session for pinochle too; we played double deck and it's so fun. We used to wrap Jason in blankets and lay him jin the corner. We did the same as you when we lived in Ohio, going from house to house. I will keep Jay in my thoughts and prayers. Is this hernia a simple fix, or not? We've had a couple guys at church go home the same day, which would make me nervous.

Hope you all enjoy a fantastic Friday! Have a great day!

Happy Saturday! The sun is shining and the humidity is rising. The temperature is on the move upward too. It's been a lazy Saturday since we got home later last night we slept later this morning. Had a late breakfast, have sheets in the washer, made some bran muffins, and need to clean off the kitchen counters.

Ian had several good plays in the game last night -- like I would have a clue. He did make a touchdown, which I saw and knew what was going on. :cp: I just am not a football fan at all.

I need to keep moving. Enjoy a super Saturday!

I have been MIA but havenít had much to say of late. Will continues to get stronger each day and sees his doctor on Monday.

I have been ordering the supplies that I donít have for doll making. Today Will went into Hobby Lobby and bought me a neat tool and goodies holder for my doll making which is built like a ďLazy SusanĒ and has triangular drawers around the bottom of it. It is six sided with various sized compartments in which to have the items standing up. I have it loaded with what doll making items I have so far gathered up. It will make it so much easier to find something when I need it. It will fit nicely in a plastic bin I have the other items like books and material etc. for when we travel. I can leave it loaded for it will sit nicely in the bin with the lid closed. I have the cutest little iron for doing very small pieces which is a wand ~ like a hair curler type thing with the little one inch triangular foot on the end. I have several pairs of good scissors and a cutting wheel with extra blades. Now I need to decide what doll I want to make first and get the material for the clothing gathered up. Once I have all the tools I need then when I make another doll all I will have to buy is the material and an occasional bottle of something to replace when necessary. It has been a fun quest I have been on finding sources to fill my shopping list of necessary items that I got out of one the doll making books. For each doll they have a thorough list of items that will be needed which is most helpful.

JEAN I am glad you had a good time at that game. I understand football enough but find it as exciting as watching paint dry. Baseball is my game. :cp

Evening ladies. I must be losing it. I was sure I came in here and posted this morning.

I cleaned the upstairs and have had Jack start bringing down baskets of stuff for vacation. I stick them in the dryer and steam out the wrinkles then I fold them in rectangles, smoothing out all the wrinkles as I go then when I get ready to pack they can be packed that way. Tissue paper can help so I imagine dry cleaner bags could too. I find if I take my time folding them in the rectangles and packing carefully they don't come out wrinkled. I also take the wrinkle release spray and pick out outfits the day before and if they are wrinkled spray them and pull them and let them dry and do it over again if need be. I have a steamer, but they aren't allowed on the ship so I don't want to chance it.

I have been working on the blanket for the baby and made a booboo so had to take out a few rows. I put one too many patterns in the blue section so had to take 4 rows out and then switch colors.

Jack took the car to the dealership and had them recalibrate the computer for this steering sensor thing. He was only there about an hour, but he went before they opened so he could get in early. He said he wandered around looking at new cars while he waited and said they only had 3-4 of the sedans we are considering and didn't have many Explorers either. You can tell where we live as all of the cars were locked so you couldn't look inside them without a salesman with you.

We had a shooting just a few miles from here last night. This was just despicable. The man shot his handicapped 6 year old daughter who was helpless in a wheelchair then shot his 24 yr old son. His other child ran out and got away as the cops came. The guy shot at the cops then turned the gun on himself. Why couldn't he have just shot himself and left the kids be? He was having some fight with his ex-wife.

Our new modem will be here on Monday then the change over to fiber optic will happen sometime on Wednesday. It will be nice to have double the speed and better overall internet service without the prices going sky high.

Jean: Good for Ian. We used to go to our nephew's high school football games with my younger sister and her husband. Jay was all into art not sports. I like baseball and that is about it. I haven't even been watching much of it this year. They can do his surgery laproscopically so more than likely he will only be in the hospital a day or so if he has no problems. I figure they will do his vasectomy at the same time. I wish they could do my hernia surgery that way, but like women who have had multiple C sections, then cannot give birth vaginally, I have had too many open incisions surgeries for them to do anything other than cut me open again. I have a lull with drs until I get back then have to have the surgery, the endometrial biopsy and mammogram and sonogram all before the end of the year then regular dr and pharmacy dr in January. Somewhere in there I need to get a flu shot I suppose.

Maggie: Glad Will is on the mend. Sounds like you are going to be able to start having fun with your dolls soon.

You all have a nice evening. You may not see me in here tomorrow so if you don't I will talk to you all on Monday, more than likely after I get home from the eye doctor. Faye

Good Afternoon! The sun is playing hide 'n seek, but it's hot and humid in my neighborhood today. I forgot to set the alarm last night so slept later than usual this morning. Didn't make it to the Dog and Pony show, i.e. church, this morning. We will be so glad to get back to two services in September. I've done some laundry and sorted through a kitchen cupboard -- put some never used cake pans in the SOS box along with several cookbooks. Slow but steady conquers the excess, right?

Maggie, I'm glad Will is feeling stronger and mending well. I will be anxious to learn what doll you decide to create first.

"Gma," you sound like me now, knit one row then rip out two or three to the mistake and start over again. I'm ready to go around the outside edge of the afghan but am having a hard time getting back to it. Will asked the other day if I was going to wrap it up for Christmas. :o We drove an Explorer (I think) the last time and didn't like stepping over the edge and down to get in, plus it didn't have the width room we wanted. It seemed like there wasn't much foot space and that's where I put my purse so it's handy. Bob really liked the Taurus he had 15 years ago and then Ford quit making them for awhile. His adjuster has a new one and Bob thought it sits higher than most cars.

Bob is ready to remove the wall paper border in the bathroom so guess I should go help. That wasn't in my plan for the day. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day.

Good morning girls! Going to be super hot almost 100 everyday this week and the humidity was so high last night that the temp was 91 and the heat index was 109. Our house didn't really feel cool though it was. It is raining off and on here today too.

I am leaving in just a bit to go to my eye doctor appt. It will be good to get new contacts that work a lot better for me. I need to go back to my original prescription I imagine.

I am working on all my clothes, shoes, etc now to get started to pack. I am finding I bought way too many clothes and shoes. At least I will have plenty for the trip and since there is no limit on the number of bags you can take aboard, I will be a-ok!

We went grocery shopping yesterday and I felt so bad I started out walking and gave it up and got a scooter cart. I have had a queasy stomach every morning and it didn't seem to want to go away. I think it is because I am on that second dose of Metformin. Not much I can do about it as I would rather be on it than go back to insulin. It doesn't make me throw up just that queasy feeling.

Weigh day and I am down 3.4 lbs. It is coming off little by little. Jack has 5 measily little lbs and he will be at his ultimate goal, which is 205. He has lost a total of 35 lbs now. He said he hasn't weighed this little since he retired from the Navy. I just know he feels better and his knees do too.

Well, the city did it to Jack again. When this whole promotion thing came up, they had to apply then their applications had to be sent downtown, which were checked to see if they had all the appropriate qualifications for the job, one of which was supervisory experience. Jack has years of it from the Navy. Anyhow, he was vetted along with a couple other guys, neither of which had any supervisory experience at all and were fairly new to the plant so didn't have plant experience either. This has been ongoing for months as you know so a few days ago Jack ask the guy what was going on. He told Jack that Jack was NOT going to be interviewed because he didn't have the right qualifications, namely he wasn't a mechanic. How Jack kept his cool I don't know, because I would have told the guy off. They have already interviewed the other people and weren't even going to tell Jack. So, no promotion for him, but he said he is still going to put in his 20 years, but they can kiss his behind if they think he is going to do any overtime ever again or help them out on the weekends. They can choose not to do overtime because the city is too cheap to have an overtime system because they don't want to pay for people to be on call, which is fine, but cannot demand anyone to come in and work overtime. I guess Jack wasn't going to tell me about it because he knew I would get mad at how they went about it. It would have been different if they had said he needed to be a mechanic to do the job, but they didn't. It isn't a mechanic foreman job it is a maintenance foreman job and Jack has experience in everything but the motors and even studied up on motors and such to be interviewed. I told him to just be careful and not make his immediate boss mad at him so that when he needed considerations his boss wouldn't tell him no, like when he had to take off when I went into the hospital this last time to come and pick me up.

Jean: Hope your border came down easily. We need to strip the wallpaper in the hall bath upstairs sometime in the future. It is starting to come down.
I would like to get the blanket done. I am not keep on blankets anyway because they take so long to make, but I wanted to give her something nice she could pass on to the next generation. We are planning on waiting until probably after Christmas of 2015 to buy another car. It will be nice to have two so that I don't have to get up and take him to work at 6 AM. I can go to water aerobics classes and such too and have dr appts anytime without having to worry I won't be out in time and such.

Well girls, I need to go. I am leaving in just a bit to go to the eye drs. Have a great week. Faye

Good Afternoon! It's another sunny humid day although not terribly hot. There were only two of us to count money this morning. The secretary was awol and didn't have her sh*t together so there was about $6000 missing from the automatic bank pay. She should have run it last week so we would have had it today. Oh well, next week will look even better. I had to go to the hospital and balance the money for the day, plus pick up last weeks money, since the gal who usually does it is gone this week. This afternoon is P.E.O. And then we are heading to Sioux City to pick up the kids for soccer games. Beth is chomping at the bit because she still hasn't been transferred back to days.

"Gma," one can never have too many clothes! ;) You will have such fun deciding which outfit to wear. I hate that queasy feeling. I hope your body either gets used to ithe med or you can take something else. :congrat: On losing another 3.4 #s, and to Jack too! It's too bad the city fathers didn't at least have the courtesy to let Jack know about the job. I sure wouldn't do them any favors either. Bob worked up a sweat in the bathroom yesterday. I thought it would be an easy job because the paper was coming loose in different places. Not so, and the wall looks pretty icky right now. Bob said he will sand it lightly and hope for the best. The paint should help too.

Time to go! Hope you all are enjoying your day!

Good Afternoon! It's another humid day although only 82 degrees according to the thermometer. The strange weather continues! I spent the morning sorting through the paper clutter and putting "stuff" away; I was in a hurry yesterday and tend to leave things lay when that happens. This afternoon WE went to look at paint colors. Bob thought we were buying and I picked out samples to bring home and stick on the walls. All of his choices were too dark imo, the bathroom is small with only one "whole" wall. We'll see . . . . . .

I am sad, yet hopeful. Our brain tumor friend has been taken out of the therapy program due to lack of improvement, and placed in Hospice. They can provide some services that the rehab place cannot, so are hopeful the antidepressants will kick in soon and he will feel like he can achieve some movement. Right now all he wants to do is sleep. They have an MRI scheduled for September but I'm not sure why they are waiting that long. He was to start chemo but is too weak right now. A sad situation.

"Gma," tomorrow is Wednesday, so hope your internet (or whatever) is up and running again! Bummer to be without!

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day.

Good Morning! We got up to a rainy morning. The sun is supposed to shine this afternoon, with more hot and humid. I have the sliding doors open, it's nice and cool right now. No big plans for the day until this afternoon when I have to close out the gift shop register for the day. Nothing was sold on Monday so hope the rest of the week is more profitable.

I am absolutely livid!  On the news this morning, a 9 year old local boy beat his pet dog to the point it is paralyzed. My first reaction would be to beat the kid, but can't help but wonder if he is being beaten himself. I think cruelty to animals should be a felony crime rather than a misdemeanor crime with a fine and slap on the wrist. Makes me nuts!

I need to get dressed and get moving. I know there are towels in the dryer waiting to be folded and put away. Hope you all enjoy your day today!

Good afternoon gals. Just a quick post to let you know we are up and running internet wise again. It is supposed to be double the speed but it sure seems slower to me. Hopefully it will improve.

Jean: I am so very sorry about your friend. It doesn't sound good, does it? I imagine they are just trying to manage his pain at this point and so it makes him sleep all the time. Children who do things to pets usually have serious mental issues that need to be dealt with. Many serial killers and almost all sociopaths hurt animals in one way or another as children. Hopefully he will get help before it is too late.

I will be back in the morning and post much more. Jack should be home any minute so I need to go. Have a great afternoon. Faye

Good morning to you all. It is seriously hot and steamy here today. It is supposed to be near 100 and the humidity is awful of course.

When I get done here I am going to start on a bit of clean up, countertops, stove and appliances that sort of thing. I mopped and vacuumed yesterday and will tackle the dusting and then the upstairs tomorrow and the weekend.

The blanket is about halfway done and coming along. I ordered too much yarn because dummy me didn't think about the socks needing fingering weight yarn so had to find some of it in baby blue and white. Hopefully it will be close to the same color as the hat and blanket. I ordered the blue to originally make a solid blue blanket then ordered white when I decided to make a different pattern so now I am going to have leftovers, but that is ok I will find a use for it as it is worsted weight yarn.

Jackson started school yesterday and he sits across from my oldest sister's granddaughter! Cousins in the same class, though they barely know each other. I just wished they hadn't cut his hair the way they did as he looks like an idiot. They shaved the side and left the top long hanging to one side. I hate it and he looks awful, but he isn't my kid.

I went looking for a good dry shampoo this morning online as I haven't been able to find any here in town and I want a can to take to the hospital when I go. I can't stand having dirty hair and can't take a shower with the IV in. This last time I had Jack bring me one of my hotel samples and I leaned over and washed it in the sink with a glass to rinse it with, but since I will have had surgery that probably wouldn't go very well bending over. I read dozens of reviews on different products and chose something called Umberto of Beverly Hills so hopefully it will work.

Our Uverse is up and running, but we feel the downloading to homepage is slower than dsl, but once you get into the internet using websites is much, much faster so guess it is a trade off. I am just glad we have internet again.

Maggie: I guess I missed where his test came back with cancer cells. I am sure sorry about that. I hope he does ok on chemo. It can be rough for sure.

Jean: Looks a little overcast right now, but we are supposed to have sunny skies and killer heat for sure. I wonder what vacation temps are going to be like this year. We are pretty much packed and I am down to one sheet of paper with my list. I have a few things to buy and my to do list, which is stuff like calling the bank and letting them know where we will be traveling, taking mail hold card to post office, stuff like that, but it will be the last week to do all that stuff. I made the mistake of letting Jack pack himself so I am sure his clothing will look like he slept in it as I was packing the bag we take aboard the ship for Sunday night dinner in case our other bags are not delivered before dinner and he had a rayon tropical shirt practically waded up in there. I took it out and redid it folding it with my rectangle method then will spritz it with spray and pull it once we can get into the cabin to get the few wrinkle out of it.

Well gals, I need to get my day started. You all have a great Thursday. Faye

Good Afternoon! It's another very humid day in my corner of the world. The sun is shining but it looks like clouds are coming in from the west. Bob is playing in a golf fun day tomorrow so I hope it doesn't rain. I had my coffee date with my retired coworker this morning. Bob painted my bathroom today; I wanted to look at colors in another paint store but he kept bugging me so picked one I looked at yesterday -- palest green of the bunch and it is definitely green! :hyper: I hope once the towels and shower curtain are up it will tone down some. The color swatch said if I didn't like the color I could get a free gallon of another color. I somehow don't think he'd be real excited about doing it again so soon.

Maggie, I also missed where Will learned about the cancer. I hope the chemo will take care of any other wandering cancer cells.

"Gma," I had to :) at your comment about Jackson's haircut. We see it all at the soccer games, styles and colors. I'm so glad Jason was so particular about his hair; as soon as it got a little long it would curl and he didn't like that. Ian is the same way. Kolby is another story! He's has had super short almost shaved, a mohawk, and now he's wearing it a little longer but not over his ears. So far the girls haven't done crazy colors or cuts. Jack and Bob sound alike when it comes to wrinkled clothes! I told Bob to lay out what he's wearing tomorrow so he will at least leave the house wrinkle free.

I need to work on a grocery list for tomorrow so better get at it. Life would be so simple if we didn't have to eat! Enjoy the rest of your day and evening!

Good evening ladies! Thunderstorms for the 6th day in a row. Its hot and humid and depressing. I need to see the sun!

Just doing my usual quilting stuff, going to the Y, reading too much, and trying to work some housework in. I can't stand clutter or dust or dirty floors, but I can ignore stuff like washing the windows.

My friend who recently had her 19th surgery is having another on Monday to fix her bursa sac. She has the best outlook and just keeps on going.

Faye, the kids around here have strange haircuts, in my opinion, but I'm sure a lot of people think mine is too. The best thing is it does grow out. Men should never be trusted to pack a bag!

Jean, that mean. crazy kid that beat the dog should be put away until he is grown up. It brought tears to my eyes.

Maggie, I didn't know about Will's cancer, either. I hope the chemo isn't too bad for him and I'll add him to our prayer book at church.

Have a wonderful evening.

Good morning to you all. Hot and sticky already this morning. Good thing I posted early or you wouldn't have heard from me yesterday. Our power went out at 8:30 and I sat in a dark, miserably hot house all day and it didn't come back on until 6 PM. Since Jack works for the city, when he got home he walked over to where they were working and they saw his city uniform and told him exactly what the problem was. Since Jack works electronics and electrics he understood it all and came back and told me the supervisor told him it should be back on by 6 PM. Two minutes until 6 it came back on. We had to go out for dinner so we just went to Hueys, which is a bar type place and got a sandwich and sat in the ac for an hour or so. They still didn't have it back on when we got back so Jack walked over and checked again and he still said 6 PM so we sat around in our underwear until 6.. I kept the house closed up and everything as dark as I could to keep it cool and got a cold glass of water and a soda and an ice pack out of the fridge then didn't open it again. I didn't want to eat crackers because of the salt so I just had a couple snacky things in the pantry for lunch as I did get breakfast eaten before the power went out. I just hope it stays on now. We have had a lot of power outages because of the excessive heat here. It happens pretty much every year.

I had cleaned the bathroom, washed down the washer and dryer and freezer before the power went out so that was done, but then later on, I went upstairs and got our led light and a flashlight and went into the kitchen and cleaned my ceramic cooktop and all the countertops and sink and then did up the dishes so I did the chores I was planning on except for the dusting. I will tackle it today and do the upstairs tomorrow.

Jean: I would like to paint the majority of the downstairs a very pale green when we paint then accent with yellow and grays, but it I think we will buy different samples of yellow, gray and green and try it out on the walls in the laundry room where the lightest color is at the moment and decide, which one we like best. I think we are going to buy one of those new fangled paint sprayers that you can paint wall with to hurry up the job when we decide to start on it. There is certainly always something to do here. I told Jack I wanted to hire a landscaper to come onto our deck next spring and clean out all the leaves, cut everything and clean it all up. We don't have a huge amount so it shouldn't be very expensive and the bush, flowers and such will look better than when he whacks at them. I may have them plant a few flowers around too who knows? Jack gets his hair clipper cut really short nowadays. He hates getting his haircut so much that it is easiest to deal with. Bob has such a beautiful head of white hair. Jack's is still dark brown, which amazes me. He has gray in it, but if you aren't standing on top of him it isn't noticeable. I will face letting my hair grow out natural when Jack retires from the city because then $165 every couple of months to get my hair colored will be a waste of money IMO. So, I will then let it grow out and pray it is decent coloring or color it myself.

Susan: My house looks like a hoarders right now and it drives me bonkers as I am all about neatness, but there isn't anything I can do about it. We don't want to buy storage units and then have to try and pack up and move stuff when we get new floors put in so there is stuff sitting all over the dining room. I have no place for anything. My darn spices fall out of my kitchen cupboard all the time because there isn't room for them, etc, etc but I have to be patient. You know I clean all the time, but everything is so old that I am to the point where I just can't get the linoleum to look clean and it is coming away from the wall and such so the glue is around the edges and picks up dirt on it. I just can't get down on the floor and scrub the edges like I used to so I do the best I can with it and have to just let it go, which is not easy for me. I like a nice neat clean house all the time. One day it is will be that way for me again.

You all have a nice weekend. We are going to stay in because it is going to be over 100 all weekend. Faye

Good Afternoon! I had a post all written and somehow it went into never never land, never to be seen again! GRR!!! It's another very humid day here and would be really miserable if the sun were out. Bob is playing golf and there is a slight breeze which helps a little. I made the dreaded WM run this morning; it's fast becoming the $100 store. It was getting busy with mothers and kids as I was leaving, but they did have several check outs open. I noticed some merchandise had been relocated but everything on my list was where I usually find it. :cp:

Susan, you do keep busy which is good! :D I know what bursa is but didn't realize one could have surgery for or on it. I thought it was just a lubricating material around joints. No? I hope your friend gets along ok, 19 surgeries is sure a lot! The dog had to be put down and someone gave the family another dog. Judging from the address in the paper, it happened in Mexican territory. If anyone at school finds out, the kid will have a hard time. I would have a hard time having him in my class. I'm hoping he was sent away.

"Gma," I sure hope your electricity will stay on now! I think it's too funny Jack could tell the guys how to fix it. I can't imagine how hot and miserable you must have been. The bathroom green looks much lighter today. The sun coming in the sky light gives it a whole different look. My hair started turning gray in my 30s, and really got going after I had the hysterectomy. I just decided "what you see is what you get." Somehow I don't think your house comes anywhere close to looking like a hoarder's house. If true, then a squeaky clean one! ;)

Guess I will boil some eggs for egg salad. Bob is having a steak supper at the golf course so I am on my own for both lunch and supper. Hope you all enjoy a fantastic Friday!

Good evening, ladies! Rainy day in the 80s again.

I went to WM for protein powder and bars this morning after I worked out at the Y. That is how boring my days are.

Faye, my yard man does the flowers and shrubs. He planted a bunch of bulbs this spring. He's going to take out the hedges in the front of the house. I've hated them since day one - 25 years - but that's how all the houses in this development were landscaped and Stan liked them. I'm going to have Scott put in hydranges which I love in the spring. He also cleans my gutters and trims my trees without me even having to tell him.

Jean, Margaret's bursa has a leak that needs to be repaired. It's her hip and it might have been nicked in a previous surgery.

Hi, Maggie!

Have a great evening!

Good morning to you ladies. Another hot sticky day here. We are staying inside except for Jack going out and getting some bread and his favorite lowfat ice cream that Krogers has.

I am going to tackle upstairs bathrooms this morning later then that will be it for today. It is too hot to do too much else.

I am getting close to being finished with the baby blanket. They live up north and it is a nice heavy blanket she can put in the crib to keep him warm and it is washable and dryable so she can just chuck it into the washer when it gets dirty. I only use washable/dryable stuff for kids. Who wants to have to hand wash anything for kids? Moms work these days and don't have the time to mess around with it.

We are only 29 days out until the cruise and we leave in 26 days. I can't believe it is finally getting close. The next one will be harder since it isn't until 2016.

Susan: I can feel for the woman and the multiple surgeries, which I am sure you can too. I think the only way you can deal with it is to have a positive attitude. I wouldn't say I am looking forward to my surgery in October, but I am not dreading it and I want the darn thing fixed so it doesn't become dangerous. I am losing weight, but I am still morbidly obese and that puts a lot more pressure on a hernia than someone who is at their correct weight so I just don't want to wait it out. I just wish we could fix the uterine thing, but my insurance won't pay for surgery to remove what they consider a healthy organ. I am in my "down" time at the moment with it as I am not spotting or crampy or such for the last couple weeks. Problem is it is not on a cycle like women who are still fertile so I never know when it is going to start up again. I am taking stuff with me on the cruise just to play it safe.

Jean: Jack hasn't played golf in a long time as he has no one to play with him. Tom used to play, but hasn't played in years so Jack has no one down here to play with. Besides that, his knees were causing him so much pain he didn't like playing. He does love the game even though he is not particularly good at it. He tried to get me interested in it years ago, but it just was not my thing. When Jay was a toddler we used to rent a cart and Jack would play 9 holes and so would Jay as we bought him a toy set. He would get out when his dad did and set up and hit his ball then we would chase it and back into the cart. He was really cute. As a grown up he never has played though. I had egg salad yesterday. I like slicing up green olives in my egg salad, but I didn't have any. It is a southern thing I got addicted to when we moved down here.

You all have a nice weekend. I am going to go test my blood sugar and make myself breakfast. TTFN!! Faye

Good Morning! We got up to rain so are going to see what the weather is doing after lunch before we head to the cabin. I've done some laundry and changed the sheets on the bed. That is an automatic every Saturday. I didn't think we were going to the lake until tomorrow so haven't fixed any food to take. I wouldn't mind ordering pizza and call it good. Next weekend is the last hurrah for everyone so will be making extra food then.

"Gma," Bob mentions joining a golf league again, and he could do so with my blessing. He only plays two or three times a summer and he is a good golfer. His parents were avid golfers and had lots of tournament trophies. They even traveled to Florida to play in a national cancer tournament. I took lessons two summers in a row, decided I wasn't having fun plus paying a sitter, so gave it up. I forgot about putting the olives in my egg salad! I know Bob will ask about it when I do.

The dryer just buzzed so will fold the sheets and put them away. Laundry sure seems to multiply when I least expect it. Be sure and enjoy a super Saturday!

Good morning all. It is going to be viciously hot today over 100 temps and brutal heat index so we are staying inside. I hope this doesn't mean we will have a super hot vacation like we did our first cruising year. It stayed in the 90's the whole time.

I have the whole house cleaned now so have a free day and will start it all over tomorrow probably vacuuming and mopping. I started breaking it up again and it is easier in the hot weather to do it that way.

I bought new panties for the cruise and they have zoomed up the prices and zoomed down the quality. I was amazed at how thin the cotton is now. You can see right through it. I laundered them and wouldn't have been surprised if they had come out in tatters. I can buy others, but they are $12 a pair and that is ridiculous to pay for cotton undies IMO.

I only have one and a half panels left on my blanket then I can bind off and it is done. I will be glad when it is finished because it is pretty heavy to deal with at the moment.

Jean: Jack won't eat anything with mayo or miracle whip and doesn't like hard boiled eggs so he wouldn't eat egg salad. He doesn't eat olives either. Sometimes I wonder how I ever feed the man, but as long as I stick meat and potatoes in front of him he will survive. Like I said, I have gotten him to eat more veggies than he used to, but nothing out of the norm. I found golf difficult because I am left handed. I couldn't get the hang of swinging so I gave it up.

Everyone have a nice day and if it is hot where you are, stay cool and safe. Faye

Good morning, ladies! The sun is out today - more rain tomorrow - and it's only supposed to be 81 degrees, 74 right now.

It looks like Labor Day weekend may be some nasty weather with Cristobal coming up the coast. The storm watch is on. The newspaper this morning had its usual pre-storm warning that homeowners insurance does not cover flooding. It also said that Hampton Roads (Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and Yorktown), is the next city after New Orleans for serious flooding. I know FEMA redid the 100-year flood plan this year and my flood insurance went down for the first time in years.

Sandy and I went to see "The 100 Foot Journey" yesterday. A good chic-flick. What was disgusting was the ticket was $6 and a small popcorn was $6.50. I'm making me a big purse and taking my own from now on.

Nothing happening today but doing the downstairs floors and some cooking ahead for the coming week.

Faye, I've never tried green olives in egg salad but I'm putting some in today. I'm also making tuna salad and chicken salad, a pork roast and sauerkraut, grilling chicken breasts and a meatloaf. I made a huge container of salad yesterday so all I'll have to do is reheat and cook veggies all week. I noticed the same thing when I got new undies - very thin cotton that won't last.

Jean, it seems like you just opened the cabin at the lake and it'll soon be time to close it up. The summer has flown by.

Hi, Maggie!

Have a blessed Sunday.

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and it's not quite as humid as yesterday. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night for some reason. I blamed it on too much fresh air at the cabin yesterday. Anyhow, I slept until 8:30 this morning which is very unusual for me. I can't remember the last time that happened. Bob let the boys up from the basement and he said Sonny wasn't sure he should come up since I'm always the first one up in the morning. I've done nothing but read the papers and eat breakfast/lunch so far. :o

"Gma," I hope your air is able to keep up with the heat! We haven't had a 100 degree day yet this summer, and we usually get a couple in July. Bob isn't crazy about mayo and that's all that his mom used. I grew up on Miracle Whip so that's what I use unless a recipe specifically calls for mayo.

Susan, I sure hope flooding doesn't happen. :crossed: The tv has been broadcasting news about the CA earthquake. At least with tornadoes there is usually a little bit of a warning. I have been tempted to take my own popcorn to the movies. It never tastes as good as theater popcorn smells though. I'm sure they pop it, as people come in, so the smell entices people to buy. Undies must be like everything else these days -- cost goes up and quality goes down.

I need to get busy on some more laundry. I'm thinking potato salad sounds good. Will have to check and see if I have enough of everything without going to the store. Enjoy the rest of your day and evening!

Good morning to you ladies. Same old recording, hot and sticky today. I want to get the vacuuming and mopping done today and I have a load of laundry ready to put in the dryer I need to get going before the heat gets up so high and the dryer heats up the house.

Today was weigh day and I am down another 3.2 lbs! :carrot: I have lost about 20 lbs in the last 6 weeks or so and I am all for that

I finished the baby blanket and here is a picture of it and the hat. I am waiting for the yarn to be shipped to make the baby socks as I had to order fingering yarn. I have to say I am glad to be done with the blanket. It puts a lot of strain on my shoulders and arms and hands when the blanket gets longer and longer and heavier and heavier.

Jean: The AC does ok as long as you don't have to hang out in parts of the house. The dining room area can get pretty warm and if you head up the stairs about half way up you can really tell the difference if the ac unit upstairs isn't on. We don't run it when we are downstairs. I grew up on Miracle Whip too and don't like mayo as well as Miracle Whip. I buy the lite style as I don't like the ff at all. I think it tastes really metallic. Hope you caught up on your sleep!

Susan: I take my own stuff into the theater too. I like to take the little Glucerna bars. I don't eat popcorn as I have a lot of trouble with the kernel pieces. We pay $7 for a senior price matiness. Movies are $8 here, which is ridiculous, but the truth is they are trying to make their money back because the movies themselves cost millions now. We have to really want to go to even frequent the movies. We only go once in awhile. Sure hope the storm doesn't give you too much trouble. We are watching for sure since we go pretty much smack dab in the middle of hurricane season.

You all have a wonderful week. Faye

Good Morning! The sun is shining, the humidity is much lower, and it's a beautiful day in my neighborhood. The three of us balanced at church but then my paperwork wouldn't balance with the first one. Come to find out the "incompetent" (imo) secretary didn't total the automatic deposits from the bank, so had to change figures on the first deposit sheet. I checked mine twice before I asked her what the problem could be. She may be a computer whiz but she sure isn't detail oriented. Makes me nuts! My laptop is at the computer joint; I thought I could renew my own virus program but they kept trying to charge me for two, like last year, when I only need one. I called for help Friday, then made copies of the emails back and forth, and took the whole mess down to my tech buddy. I'm sure he mentally groans when he sees me coming. I made tuna salad for lunch and here I am!

"Gma," :congrat: on another great loss this week! The baby blanket is beautiful! I'm sure the new mother will be thrilled to receive your gifts. We pay $6 for senior movie tickets, just went up from $5. The regular tickets are $8; I'd have to think long and hard at that price. We don't have any movie rental places any more. Walgreens has a Red Box but you-know-who is always lined up there.

I have a load of towels to fold and put away so better keep moving. Hope you all enjoy a nice day!
