Ok, its Monday morning (well, not yet, but this is for the morning:D ) and Im ready to start. Here are my thoughts...
1. Post your progress here every day, thats why we are a wonderful support group!
2. Weekly weigh in, I'll start this morning and post my "beginning of the challenge weight"
3. State your weight loss goal for the end of the 5 week challenge.
4. Every week, pick a challenge. Something you have trouble with and need to focus on. Keep up that same habit the second and remaining weeks, but pick another challenge to start the second week etc etc. By the end of the 5 weeks, we will have hopefully tackled 5 struggles, overcame them, and consider them, little blips in the past.
Good Luck everyone!!

Hi Robin,
You're not in this alone. I started low carbing again and this is just what I need, a challenge.
For my first week-stay under 20 carbs and drink at least 64 ozs of water a day.
Weight lost goal for first week: 5+lbs
I know I can do this, I've been back and forth between low fat and low carb diets for the last couple of weeks and on the low fat diet I'm not lossing a thing. I've been maintaining for weeks and I'm tired of that. So I'll check in every morning and once late afternoon.
Thanks for this board!

Ok, I'm in! This will be up....end of August?
Starting weight - 234. Ooooooh, that hurts to say outloud. I completely lost it in May and June and crept up to 242. Hey Linda, that was my turning point!
Goal weight at the end of 5 weeks: 219. That is 219 OR BUST. I have all the determination in the world right now, and I NEED to make this goal. I WANT IT!! 3 pounds a week is attainable!
Challenge this week: to do good on water every day, and cut my diet drinks and decaf back drastically.
I'm ready for this! I better stop now before I start sounding like a pre-show wrestler!!

Robin? Would you and the other gals mind if I join in on this?
I need to cut out the carbs (which make me psycho!!!) and get a little stronger for the big shabang in two weeks.
let me know!

Starting Weight ~ Hmmm, I honestly don't own a scale, so, I'll see if DIL has one and will find out today.
Goal Weight ~ I'm going to aim for the conservative loss of 2 lbs. a week. I'm down to the last 10-20 lbs to come off so this should be realistic for me.
Weekly Challenge ~ Is definately the "E" word. My challenge is to find the time to get to the gym. Actually a thought just hit me. I've been getting up at 5:00 a.m. to set up the money bag for early pick up, so, I could go ahead and shower, etc., and be ready for the gym by the time I get everyone else fed and out the door. Ok, that's my weekly challenge beginning tomorrow!
Also, I will watch my portions during RM. I've been a bit sloppy with this lately.
Okay, next?
Peachie ~ you snuck in on me! Alot of good can be done these next two weeks hon. And you'll feel sooooo much better!
Welcome Kimbo!

I am game! Weight at 196, hope to be 180 at the end of august. My challenge to drink more water and get out and move more!!!! Have to get cortisone shot in my ankle, so that has made it hard to walk, dang arthritis (don't have an appt with the specialist till Jan, hopefully by then my weight will be down enough that I won't need one). I will not give in! Power to the low carbers!

May I join in??? I started low Carb June 1st and have lost 10 lbs .. I am very slow looser but am hoping to lost at least 5 more lbs (or more???) by the end of August. So that will bring me to 165 ... I CAN DO THIS - WE CAN ALL DO THIS!!!

Hi Everybody!!
Great thread Robin--just what I need since I seem to have fallen off every wagon we own since we came back from Chicago.
I will weigh myself when I get off of here--that will be depressing!
My goal for this week is to make sure that I do my Body Flex at least once a day for the rest of week. We leave on vacation on Saturday so I NEED to stay focused.
Long term goals:
1. Keep up the Body Flexing to keep losing inches.
2. Lose at least 8 lbs. in the 5 weeks.
3. Cut back on the Merlot.
4. Drink more water.

Hello everyone!!
It's been busy around here this morning and that's a good thing! So far the day is going very well. No food crazings about to drive me crazy yet!:dizzy: But there is tomorrow, days 3 & 4 are my hardest days so if I'm talking crazy by Wednesday, you'll know why!;).
Right now I'm working a F/T & P/T job. I'm a exercise fanatic but so far, I'm to tired to do anything. I guess, I'll start working out at lunch time. This will be the best time for me know. I use to get up at 4:30A and be at the gym by 5:15 but after 2 weeks of a P/T job, that has put a stop to that, I'm stumbling around the office like a drunk woman.
Anyway, it's good to see so many interested!
Does anyone do the Atkins or any low carb shakes/bars? How do they taste and can you recommend any?

OHHHHH GROAN....WEEP......WAIL....all my sins have come home to roost! :faint: Stepped on the scale this morning and CLUNK dead on 290. That's 20 lb I've gained in the past year. 20 lb back of the 30 I'd lost 2 years ago on WW. And 10 of those pounds have come on in the past two weeks. If I wasn't so fat I'd kick myself in the backside!
Soooooo.....my five week goal is to lose those last 10 pounds. I know I can do it especially as it's new (well sorta new) flab. Obviously burying my head in the sand about my overeating hasn't stopped the blub from sneaking back on. I guess I was hoping that if I pretended that I wasn't out of control that the pounds wouldn't find me. HAR HAR!
If those 10 lb come off faster than I think they will, I will try for another 5 before the end of August.

I just started atkins two weeks ago. It's been working pretty well for me so far. I'm down 10.5 pounds so far. :cb:
My goal for the next 5 weeks is to lose another 15 pounds.
This weeks challenge is to get 30 minutes of exercise daily.
Today's weight: 189.5

Hi all! Hope you don't mind one more.
I started atkins 3 weeks ago and have lost 11 (from 176 to 165). My weight goal is 2 per week, so 10 total.
My First weekly goal...Well, I guess that more exercise, less smoking and less vodka drinks would all be equally pressing at this point. I will go with........
No more than 3 drinks per week. Starting now.
Thanks for starting this great thread!

I'm joining in! I have no idea what I weigh, but the waistband of my tightest pants is starting to pinch. I've been goofing off in the exercise department, it's just too dang hot!
My goal for August is to get my butt moving! At least 15 minutes walking every day, and my stretching/weight-lifting at night. Ugh, it sounds like such a chore! We're all in this misery together, right?

Wow Robin you started a revolution! This is great, and I think we can get a lot accomplished. I am so PUMPED over this. I think part of me knows the summer will be over soon, and we'll be back to cold weather. I always feel better and happier in the summer and I think I can accomplish more in the summer when I can be more active and eat fresher veggies.
Ok everybody that didn't weigh, go find a scale or go to the pharmacy and see. You need some accountability and what better way to measure! We don't care what you weigh, we love you no matter what! You might find your turning point if you do!
Kimbova - I like the Atkin's Morning Start bars. I especially like the Apple. I like the chocolate premixed shakes, but I only drink in emergencies since they are pricey. Hey don't get discouraged on the next few days. I had a hard time for a while, and I just kept reaching for the low carb snacks, like macadamia nuts and cheese. I ate too much, but I ate the 'right' things, and eventually that sugar did get out of my system. I personally do not recommend many shakes/bars in these first few days so you can get it all out of your system! Forget what sweet is for a few days and you'll thank yourself later. :)

 Well this is my first posting...and how perfect! I had been on the Atkins right after my daughter was born lost 60lbs, was down to 170lbs....and gained it back 3 yrs later. When I did the first time I had alot of support because where I worked there were four other women doing the atkins so we made sure noone cheated, shared recipes etc...well when I left that job I had no support...and have found it almost near impossible to stick with...my weakness is ICECREAM and I have a 3 yr old so you can imagine...
So here goes--
This morning when I weighed myself I weighed 231lbs.
My goal at the end of five weeks is 211 (that's only 4lbs a week)
My challenge this week will be to drink more water (I am usually really good at this but here lately I am addicted to diet root beer, and coffee)
I am so glad to be a part of this group! Thanks everyone! Love, Julia

Hi & a big welcome to Kimbo, CJ, Julia, Bailey, Sterling, Meowna!! I recognize some of you and it's great to see you again along with the new LC chickies!
I did well yesterday. Day #1 of Challenge conquered and I feel good about it. :smug:
Food Intake - Not one morsel of forbidden carbs!
Water Intake - approx 92 oz. + (1) CF diet pepsi
Excercise - I parked at the far end of Wally World, walked around in WW for 2 hours pushing an overflowing grocery cart. I kept moving when I got home and didn't sit down ('cept to drive home) for 4.5 hours. It wasn't the gym but I kept moving-was better than plopping behind the puter! :^:
I'll find a scale somewhere today. Jennifer, there's no scale at our pharmacy! :( But I do think it would be a good idea if we took our measurements! The scale doesn't always show what our bodies are doing! :?:
How'd everyone else do on day #1?

Good morning ladies,
....and thanks for the warm welcome! It's nice to know that you're not alone in this battle.
Jennifer-thanks for the advise, I'm so busy during the day at work and I work a P/T job in the evening that if I don't do a bar or atkins shake of some sort than I end up not eating at all. I perfer the bars, they make you feel full for a long time.
Yesterday was a great eating day! I didn't go off plan not even once. I'm so excited about that! I was feeling a little nervous, I guess that's because I pigged out on high carb food on Sunday and then under 10 carbs on Monday. Anyway, I will do my measurements today and post them tomorrow. My stats, which is very difficult for me to even type are 290 started / 245 current / 190 goal. It's been a rollercoster ride for me for about a month now. I've been stuck on 245 cause I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted to do, low fat or low carbs. I just wasn't moving on low fat so I decided low carbs is what it will be for me.
My DH & I are going on a cruise Thanksgiving week and I don't want to take at least 35 of these pounds with me.
My weight goal in these 5 weeks is at least 10lbs but of course I want more.
Until later, have a great morning!

Wow!! Its great to see so many of us!!! Welcome to everyone and good luck!!!
Yesterday went great. I ate too much, but like Jennifer, I ate the right things, and noticed I pee'd ALOT yesterday lol. So, the water is leaving!! YAH!! :twirly:
Got in a little walk, which is great since I turn into a slug in the summer!! I hate exercising in the heat :( But if I want to get the last of my weight off, then I need to do this....and I am :D
Tip for the day.........when your feeling cravings, or ghost hunger, drink some water, chug it and get as much in as possible at once. Then wait and see if your cravings go away. If not..............go clean the bathroom :D
Have a great op day everyone!!

OK - I am out of ONEderland, dammit! I changed my profile stats but fully intend to be at or close to 189 in 5 weeks. I've got 3 pounds of new fat from the Fair to lose and then 11 more. Two pounds a week is a lot for me but I'll try.
I will drink more water.
I will walk Hershey for a half hour twice a day.
I will NOT have even a single ju-jube or red licorice stick.
I will not give up if I slip up on any of the above.

The scale showed one pound gone this morning. I'm not going to get too jubilant about it but it's a small step in the right direction. The only thing I'm having trouble with is nuts. The other day I broke down and bought a bag of mixed salted nuts and I'm afraid I've been dipping into them rather greedily. Otherwise, I'm having no problem staying op.
Tomorrow morning I will put in my hour at the pool. It will be a real treat because of our current heat wave and the pool I go to keeps the water pretty cool. I still can't do much in the way of land exercises. Even doing an hour or two of gardening makes my knee swell up terribly.
Nice to see so many new faces (and some former posters....HI MEOWNA).

Hey there- first time posting here for me! I started Atkins for the first time July 8th. So far so good. I started at 267.5 YIKES! and am now down to 253.5!!! Yipee!!!
I sued to drink almost 4 cans a Coke a day, so this is a big deal for me! Generally I feel like I have way more energy now and my appetite has gone waaay down. I have to remind myself to eat.
( that is new to me!)
I think I can really stick to this, with seeing results so fast. My pants that were too tight now fit, and the pants that fit are now too big- AMAZING!!!

Mama J, you are exactly right, the measuring tape will tell us more than a scale. I wrote down my measurements a couple of months ago. I put them in my file box, and while Rob was looking for something, he pulls it out and starts reading aloud. He didn't know what he was reading, he was reading it to me so I could tell him what it was. Well he figured out what he was reading about the same time I did. Ugh. I took it and hid it in my desk. Now to find it!
Welcome all the newbies! I hope to hear much more from you!

LOL, Jennifer, that's why I never write anything down. Too incriminating. I can just imagine me trying to explain. "Uh....those are the measurements of the new jetted tub I'd like to have, heheheh" or "Those are the measurements of the new 20 cu. ft fridge I've got my eye on." :o

Too funny, LindaBC and Jennifer! I hide my measurements in my PC as DH is very computer illiterate and would never look there.
Linda, darling, NO MORE NUTS - except the one coming for a visit August 9. Ju-Jubes are my downfall and nuts are yours! (Remind me not to bring nuts as a hostess gift.)
I'm rid of two of those pesky Fair pounds and am back in ONEderland. New fat is easier to lose than old fat. It pays to get at it before it sends out too many roots. Some of my fat has taproots after hanging on since the mid-80's!

Well I for one will dig out my tape measure and be brave. It will only say those numbers for now right! It will give me a better idea of where I am losing it. I know my bra is much more comfortable now, not falling out of it. ewww nastyness! HA
Linda- Hello! Been hotter than Hades here tooo.
We can do this. I have noticed while op I am not hungry, I am not looking for snacks. The first 3 days was the WORST. Now on day 15 I am doing great, down 11 lbs now (194lbs) Yeee Hawww.
I am trying to be Creative with my cooking so I don't feel left out, deprived or cheated. ha ha

07-30-2003, 08:50 PM
Well, the nuts are all gone. (I ate 'em :o ) Today I've been totally OP. I put in over an hour at the pool this morning because it felt so divine to be in the cool water with the big windows looking out over the mountains. I confess I didn't work very hard, just paddled end to end and did some water weight lifting but anything is better than nothing, right?
I went to the store and bought a good selection of meat. No way could I buy roasts though. It's too hot right now to have the oven on. Just the quick cooking stuff and, if I ever get my BBQ repaired, that will make life easier too.
The scale showed another pound gone this morning. I know it's water and there's a lot more where that came from. My eyelids are so puffy. I don't care how the weight goes as long as it does.
Good for you Meowna! I agree that once you've been OP for a few days, the cravings disappear. After that it's just the habit of munching on something all the time that can cause trouble. I guess we have to learn new, healthier habits but they all seem to involve the E word. :(
Ruth, I sure hope the weather cools off before you get here. This is insane. I'm sure it's in the high 30s today. (that's about 90 to you folks south of the border) Some people just love it but I'm not a hot weather kinda gal...unless I can be at a beach and that isn't gonna happen anytime soon.

OK But great news. I weighed myself this morning and I am at 227. I don't know how. Well actually I have been really strict on the diet, I have been drinking water like a camel and I have cut my portions back alot. Plus I excercise daily and I am in the process of a break up-so u know the stress does not make me want any food, lol. I think the combo of everything is helping! I am glad I have all of you to report to! LOL. Hopefully I will continue to loose! I have been drinking Edge shakes, if I feel a little hungry between meals! Which helps. They taste a little chalky at first, but then they start to grow on u, lol. Whatever works, right? I am really shocked at the rapidness. I forgot how quick it comes off when you actually take it seriously!

Down 1 more pound this morning. I know, I know, I shouldn't weigh every day but we each have to do what works best for us. I find if I don't get on the scale every day, I tend to just ignore it which means I figure I'm not accountable for what I eat. Best to know right away, even if the scale can fluctuate for no particular reason. If it's up, even if it's just fluid retention, I can do something about it right away. Much better than waiting a week to find out I've gained 5 lb.
It's a bit cooler today and I should have been out in the garden but I had my bookkeeping/computer guru here helping me with some long-delayed work so I'm very happy to have most of it taken care of at last. I just hate having unfinished projects hanging over my head. (Well, I do have a lot that don't seem to bother me a bit but they're the kind you can tuck away in a closet or drawer and forget about. )

I think I'm a couple of days late but count me in!! I just started Atkins, this is my 3rd day. It has been going very well. The last 5 or 6 times I joined WW I barely made it through 1 or 2 days before falling off the wagon. With all the meat and eggs I've been eating I feel more committed to following the plan or I'll really gain more weight!! This is a little easier for me to follow. I'd like to be down fifteen pounds at the end of week 5.

My day at work was long and stressful...on a usual day I would have had my stash of snicker bars, and m&m's--but you know I am just not having the carb cravings today at all. That was the only easy part of the day I think, not thinking (in a Homer Simpson way) "MMMMMMMMMMM!Icecream!!!!!!!!!" LOL.
I did not weigh myself today. I looked cute though. Noone can notice the weight loss, but in my heart I know I am 4lbs lighter so it made me feel like my size 18/20 booty (hee hee) was really a size 12 or 14! I was walking on air.

Well I made it again today, but sometimes I feel what is the point? Didn't lose anything again. Frustrating. No loss for 3 weeks now...well I did lose 3 pounds, but they mysteriously crept back on this morning.
I'm doing great on my eating plan, but still should be drinking more water. This week's goal! That is most likely my scale problem as well. I have dents in my ankles when I take socks off, even when wearing them only a short time. Tomorrow - 10 gallons! (not -- but I will do better)

Hi,
New to this particular forum, next challenge I'm totally in!
Just wanted to add a little idea that my doctor suggested about the scale that has helped me immensely. I'm a daily weigher, need the validation I guess, or the reassurance that I'm still on track but he suggested that I continue with this nasty little habit only, once a week I average the weights for the last seven days. Then that number is my weight for the week. The next week I do the same thing and I subtract the 2 numbers and that is my weight loss for the week!
With all the weight fluctuations that come with being female, god help us all, the averages account for the water weight, PMS and everything else, it's brilliant. I was stuck at 210 for 6 days and was getting really frustrated, then when I averaged everything out, I had really lost 6 pounds that week because of a huge drop at the beginning!
And as an added bonus, I'm not nearly a slave to that thing, the scale, anymore. The daily numbers don't mean much as it's the average I'm waiting for on Saturday. It sure helps with those days that I gain a pound for no reason at all too, it barely makes a blip when I add them all together.
Okies that's my 2 cents for today, it worked wonders for me, hope someone else can benefit too.:)

Well Ladies,
It's day 5 and still OP! I'm excited about that. Do we have an official weigh-in day? Just wondering cause I'm not big on the scale. I would rather go a month w/o weighing than getting on the scale every week. When I see how well I'm doing I all of the sudden want to mess up, why? I don't know.
With PMS & TOM hitting me this week, I'm surprise I was able to endure but I've got a greater since of determination and I'm happy about that!
Well, I'm looking for a new daytime job and that can be a little stressful but so far so good. I've had a couple of calls and I'm waiting to set-up the interviews. The Director here is a witch, out of a dept. of 19 people only 2 are not looking for jobs because of this person. She is mad!!!
I know 2 people who have lost a lot of weight on the WOE. One lost 60lbs and the other 120lbs and they are still loving it. I spoke with the girl who lost 60lbs and she's kept it off for a year now. She's also told me about a "whoo it's low" carb store in my area so I'm hoping to visit this weekend. Right now a lot of my product are from the various grocery stores but I would love to visit a low carb store.
Until later, have a great day!

Hello there everyone:sunny:
Well, I've been on Atkins for about 6 weeks now....and I've only lost about 5 pounds!!! Help! And I'm only half way to being in ketosis. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...actually I do have an idea...even though I have been staying under 20 carbs...I think most of the carbs I've been having have been sugar alcohols or :fr: gasp - beer (michelob ultra light). I'm sure that this is part of the reason....
So, my first challenge for this week (which I actually started on Monday): No beer until I start seeing some real weight loss!!!
It actually hasn't been that bad - I've been out a couple of times this week and just drank water while everyone else drank alcohol...we'll see this weekend!!!!
Good luck to all of us on our first challenges! :high:

Hi all!
Tummy - at least take your measurements. Many do have the benefit of a large weight loss initially, but we are al different. You may be losing inches! Please don't get discouraraged and find a tape as soon as you can!
Suprgrl ~ (I think I got your name right-lol) I too love my Mich Ultra Light - part of the reason, tho I do C.A.D., I have to very closely watch my overall carb/caloric intake. I'm still losing but know if I'd give up those patio drinks, I'd prob do better. Even when I did LC maintenance for many years, I drank beer (Mich wasn't out back then-lol) but I was much more active-so the weight stayed off.
I'm still a bit too stressed and tired to say much. I'm still OP but as I've been stuck at the puter doing real office crap all day - no excercise, and I'm too darn warn out right now to even think about it. Food and water intake is good tho. I don't feel so bloated and yucky. Tho this is Hormone Hell week, cravings aren't bad.....yet! lol
I'll try for more tomorrow! Keep up the great work everyone!

Great day here eating wise, but my attitude stinks....crankier than all get out!!
Its too hot to eat, and too hot to exercise, just plain ole cranky!
Ok, I ate all my meals today, but didnt eat enough, well, this ole body is just going to have to deal with it right now. I did however get more than enough water.
Nighty night ladies

I had a plain ole cranky day too! LOL. Today had to have been the hardest day. I went to the grocery store and just stared at the cheesecake like a salivating dog, lol. I think I am pms'ing, lol.
No more pounds off...but we will see. I did not drink enough water that's for sure. I didn't hardly eat, because the stuff I really wanted (you know Doritos, icecream and cheesecake...lol) I could not have.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Goodnight all!

Im walking down the aisle of the grocery store, thinking about what kind of meat to get for the next week, and I pass the little debbie display. The urges were so bad, I stopped and studied which little debbie I was going to buy a box of and stuff my face with without anyone knowing.
I managed to get away from the display only to find myself in the chocolate/candy/chip aisle. I was determined for some reason, and I dont know why. I was good all day, not hungry, and I didnt go out shopping hungry. So why this was happening I havent a clue.
Well, I got my sh*t together managed to sort thru the meats and headed down the "diet" aisle. I thought maybe Id see if I could find some sf chocolate. I did, but found the atkins bars instead. Wow.......what a diet saver!!!!!!!! I had my peanut butter chocolate atkins bar on the way home, and I think I ate it in 4 bites. I was just a crazed woman!! But thank goodness it did the trick :D
When I got home, I had a glass of wine (dry) settled down and was fine the rest of the night :)
So far so good today, but its only 7:15

Hi all... This is my 5th day on the Atkins plan and it's working great for me. I haven't been tempted at all to stray. I like to snack as soon as I get home from work so I've been having pork rinds with cream cheese. Not a lot but for me it's something I like more than snacking on vegetables like every other diet in the world tells you to do. Do we have an official weigh in day?
LindaBC
08-02-2003, 08:01 PM
I think we do the official weigh-in on Monday.
I've been OP since day 1 and feeling pretty good. Very few cravings. I don't even dare buy the Atkins bars because the sweetness might set me off. I have a package of S.F. Jello that I'm going to make up for tonight's snack. I like it with a bit of cottage cheese.
Finally in ketosis, although the test strips are very pale. Don't want to obsess about it though.

Chicklo, we started on Monday, so that is when I will do my weigh in. The official one, anyway. I weighed this morning and I gained 1.5 pounds. Isn't that just a bunch of crap! Not cheating, not giving up, I guess my body is boycotting. It'll get over it. :(

Hello everyone! I have worked all day (yuck) and then went to dinner with honey. It has been an overall stressful couple of days. I did not cheat. BUT boy oh boy I have been tempted. Maybe its the stress...and actually although I just finished my TOM last week, it seems to be coming back....so I don't know I think my body is all out of wack right now!
I won't weigh myself until Monday. Hopefully I have lost another pound...or stayed the same. As long as I don't gain right!
Have a goodevening!

Not too many posters this weekend, I hope everyone made it thru ok.
Sunday in, with good food choices and a walk. So for the week, I stuck to my goal of getting exercise of some sort in everyday this week........next week's goal will be to continue with my exercise, and incorporate weight training 3x a week, starting tomorrow.
Weigh-in in the morning.......everyone ready? Sounds like everyone has been doing well, and is still feeling committed. Only 4 more weeks to go!!
We can do this!!!!!!!!

Good morning!
My weight this morning (534am) is 225. So yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay I lost a total of 6lbs (from 231). I am sooo happy.
My goal for this week...is to incorporate more water-I have not been drinking enough. And working out a little bit harder..not longer, just harder!
My weekend was great. I was tempted a little by the rice and beans I made for my family. I am PRican...so my rice and beans are soooooooooooooo yummmmmmmmmmmmmmy. I didn't eat it though. I just kept eating my cucumbers and chicken, lol. I can't be skinny stuffing my face with rice and beans right? Right! :)
Alrightie everyone! I will come back after work tonight! Have a fabulous day!

Well one week down four to go.
Starting weight 196, current weight 193. Current measurements are 46 - 38 - 46, hmmm nothing to vavavavoom over yet! HA
Forgive me for I have sinned! 2 handfulls of Skittles Sat nite, of all the stupidist things. Made me so sick the next moring, all shakey, quesy and just grossed out feeling! WILL NOT BE DOING THAT AGAIN!
2 days later and still feeling kinda ICK! I don't even like sweets! Go figure. I usually go for pasta's, bread, potatoes, but not icky little colored fake fruity flavored things!
Well in 3 weeks I guess it coulda been worse, like eating the whole package! Dang that man of mine, he has chips and naughty things all over the house, and I have not touched those!
Ok enough of beating myself up, upwards and onwards, or downwards and onwards.
GOOD FOR YOU JULIA:bravo:

Hi,
My husband and I've decided to try out atkins, I've just bought the book so will need to read up on it before we start. Will however join in with the challenge ...
I need to loose 30 lbs, start weight is 184 and goal is 154 ... :p
Could any of you give me an idea of what you have for breakfast/lunch and dinner ...
I do walk my daughter to and from nursery every day so that's 20 min uphill a day pushing a 27lbs load .. funny isn't it that I need to loose more or less as much as my daughter weigh (she's 14 months and it's the pregnancy bulk I'm trying to shake off) ....
Anybody from the UK on this board - got any idea what is a good Atkins choice at Pizza Express?

Jennifer ~ I know no one that owns a scale! I guess I'll have to break down and buy the darned thing! I have a pair of shorts that is my "testing for results" pair for now.
At first I thought I'd be obsessed if I owned one again. Mostly due to the fact that I'm pretty close to goal and very anxious on where I can be before going back to the doctor in December. But remembered something. For over six years I did weight averaging and as long as I got on and off once a day (around the same time) I forgot about it. (***It being that horrid metal monster! lol) So, guess I'll break down.
We're all off to a great start!

WTG Linda & Chicklo! Huge Welcome to Kobe!
Kobe ~ That is similar to what I'm trying for now. I follow CAD so I am restricting my carbs to approx. 5 for two meals a day and trying to restrict my RM to 20 or below. It's a liveable woe'ing that I feel is suitable for me. I wish you the best of luck!
Glad that ya'll joined us in the challenge and hope to see you all over the chicky roost! Please jump right into the daily where we fantasize that we're sitting on Ruth's deck gazing out over the meadow chick chatting or chick griping over real live issues. (and she serves great coffee) Ask tons of questions, give support and receive supportl! These chicks are terrific! Very knowledgeable and supportive!

Yay! I lost another 3 pounds last week just by cutting out the Michelobe Ultra Lights!!!!!
This week's goal is to really crack down on my exercise. I did start exercising last week but not as much as I wanted to! So that's this week's challenge, to do a good cardio at least every other day and to get my pilates in too!
Can someone explain the deal about Sugar Alcohols to me? I'm not too sure I understand if I'm allowed to have them or not?!?!
Thanks!
kfs151
08-05-2003, 08:47 PM
My understanding of sugar alcohols from the Atkins book:
Good News: They don't induce an insulin response and don't knock you out of ketosis.
Bad News: The body will burn them as fuel before burning fat stores thus reducing your weight loss.
I just tried my first Michelob Ultra tonight. I'm not much of a beer drinker but it was nice and good to have an option from time to time!

4-1/2 hours in the garden this morning. I think I got my exercise today. :strong:
Well, here we go into Week 2 of the challenge. Any special problems? One thing I'm trying to do is recognize when I'm full. I generally eat too much from habit or because it's there. Just because something is on my plate doesn't mean that I have to eat it. That's the kind of thinking that got me in this condition in the first place.
Another small problem is that I wait too long before eating. I know we're only supposed to eat when we're hungry, but on Atkins I find I just don't get hungry between meals and sometimes I'll delay too long. For example, today it was 1 pm when I came in from a morning of weeding the garden. I'd had a nice breakfast of bacon and omelet and I just wasn't all that hungry for lunch yet. So I decided to go to the bank and post office. I should have eaten lunch first because when I got home I was ravenous and my blood glucose was very low. I have a tendancy to overeat when I get that way and it was difficult to control the urge to be a piggy.
How about the rest of you? What problems have you encountered and how are you dealing with them? I find this kind of exchange very helpful.

Linda, I make the mistake of not having snacks when I first want one. Then when I finally get one, it isn't enough, I want more.
This week for my official weigh in, I lost nothing. Rats! This week, I am cutting the carbs, doing better on water, and I am going to exercise at least 3 times. Preferably 5. There WILL be a loss next week.

Linda, Im the same way. Hubby was sitting beside me reading your post along with me, starts jabbing me in the ribs saying "hey, thats you!" lol Im ok to a point, then man somebody better feed me
Today was a pretty good day, Im finding it hard to stay motivated. I did get some pictures back from the 1-hour place today, and was shocked to see how thin my face is. When you look at it everyday in the mirror, you tend not to notice. But the picture sure doesnt lie. It also tells me I need a boob lift :D lol
Anyway, I didnt get any exercise in today, my back is acting up. Tomorrow, I'll pull out the weights and work on my back muscles and belly muscles.

I eat a good breakfast eggs usually or a peice of chicken and then I'm satiated and forget to eat until its time to fix a late lunch or dinner
I don't do early breakfast so usually I dont even realize i need to eat till 5 then Hell breaks loose!

Question: Not sure how much protein you can eat, is it basically until you are full up, i.e. if I need to eat a whole chicken I can? :?:
It's only my second day (induction) so I haven't been near the scales, now I'm only going to get disappointed if it shows no loss ...
It's about 35 degrees in the UK so I will probably loose a lot by sweating it out ..J:devil:
I don't do much excercise but I do walk my little girl to nursery every day (about 2 x 25 minutes) so that must count for something....

J ~ on induction you arent suppose to worry about calorie intake, only your carb intake. So if you use www.fitday.com to log in your food and keep track of what your eating, you should be fine.
btw, Ive been known to eat 2 VERY large chicken breasts in one sitting (size of a small chicken) or 2lbs of burger on very hungry days. Do what you have to do to stay on plan and keep from being hungry. You will find though if you add a bit more fat to your diet that you wont be as hungry. Things like cheese, and eggs or butter on your veggies surprisingly make a big difference.
Good luck to you

Don't get frustrated the first couple of days if you don't see a loss. Wait and weigh in a week, and you'll be much happier! That walk is a good distance! I'd just try and step it up and go a little quicker, and I bet you'll find yourself wanting more before long!

Hey Robin, I hope you get over the munchies soon. I have had days like that, too. Did you go off plan yesterday? Usually I have troubles after a planned 'off plan' meal, or after I eat something that I THOUGHT was ok, but wasn't. Usually restaurant visits!
Swedemella
08-07-2003, 07:29 AM
Hi,
Robin you have done so well on this diet :cp: ! It's hard getting back on the diet after you have had the munchies .. as it's only my 3rd day I can't really speak of experience on the Atkins but I've been on WW and I find that even harder as whatever you eat costs you points. On the Aktins at least you can have some protein if you are "starving" in between meals.
I haven't weiged myself and will not do it until next Tuesday as I plan to have a glass or two of wine that evening with a friend (so need to check the progress before) .. I kind of refuse to give up my wine - mind you I use to have a glass or two every evening so it's a huge cut back as it is.... :o
My daughter has started to walk :cp: and as she gets older she is also getting more curious and want what I'm having so I can't really stuff my face in front of her - which is good ...
I refuse to be the fat mother :moo: at the school gate she is embarassed of - when that time comes ....
One reason for me to start this diet is also that I'm turning 35 in November and won't go in to the next phase in my life heavy or as a yo yo dieter ....
(The goal weight might seem heavy but I was 154 lbs on my wedding day and know that I shouldn't be any lighter as I'm quite heavily built (broad shoulders and back, and a massive head)
Suprgrl379

So much for my challenge this week! I've only worked out one day this week and that was only a 20 minute basic pilates video! At least I'm sticking with the first challenge of no alcohol. But I feel really bloated today and I'm not sure if its because I'm thinking about how I haven't been exercising or because I really did gain some weight...well, I won't know that until Monday....and there's still 4 days to exercise...so I better get cracking! :strong:
Swedemella, 154 does NOT seem like a heavy weight...your 5'7"!!!! If you lost anymore you would be emaciated!!! :yikes: Keep it up with this diet...having also been on WW through every program they have ever had since before the Fat & Fiber plan, I would have to say that Atkins is tons easier to do!! But I also think that veteran "diet"ers have a little more discipline when it comes to trying to "diet" than first timers and when something like Atkins comes along with what at least seems and feels like more freedom...its all the better for us!!! :high:
Robin, I checked out www.fitday.com and it is totally awesome!!! I subsribe to Shape magazine and totally fell for their iShape plan...which is great if you were totally going to do whatever they tell you to. I spent $100 on this internet journal and I haven't even used it in like 2 months!!! I was really good for the first month or so and then I just kept forgetting to go on it and made excuses....then I tried to use it after I started Atkins but it is totally not Atkins friendly at all! And when I saw that I ate my daily intake of calories just during lunch...I gave up on it all together. What a waste of money! Fitday is really really great though...it is exactly what I need! Thanks for sharing it with us! :dancer:

Ok...what did I say my plan was this week? I think I said cut back the carbs and continue with the water. If so, then I am doing well. That's terrible, I don't remember my own challenge. I have been eating induction like (almost) and have cut back the diet drinks. I went from diet coke to diet 7-up, and have been moving from that to water...I guess it is a psychological thing!
Anyway, I got on the scale this morning and I am down a pound from Monday. Finally!

Yay! Jennifer, I knew it would start to slip off soon. Glad to see you're moving on down again.
I am so ashamed. Today on the way to work I passed a VERY large woman jogging along the road. It was already hot outside, and here she was just running like it was 50 degrees. Then, when I drove into the cemetery, there were about 5 women in different areas walking their little hearts out. And I show up too late to get a trek in. Shame, shame, shame! This is why the pants are starting to get snug. Tomorrow morning, I vow, I will walk even if it's 100! Otherwise, my challenge will have to change, and we can't have that, now, can we?;)
Swedemella
08-07-2003, 12:13 PM
Jennifer,
I know I'm still on the induction but will I be able to have diet drinks (coke/sprite/7up) once I'm done with the induction. I haven't yet read those pages as I wanted to wait until the end of induction.
My husband in joining me in this and he really misses his "thirsty drinks" as he refers to them...
I need to get my excercise going but it being almost 35degrees (98) I can't face it .. but I might go for my 1 hour speed walk on hour parkland walk (a path where the railway use to go) ... best to do it during the summer months as it's very "rape/assault" friendly when dark - not that anything have ever happend but you never know as should always stay safe ...

Yesterday I missed my pool session so I hope to go tomorrow morning.
Good for you, Jennifer. Sometimes it's the little changes that make all the difference. For me, it's not having nuts or p.b. in the house (we'll forget the Indulge bars, ok?) I've gotta stop thinking about them. :p

Well I was a bad girl. I had chips and salsa last night. Makes me mad, because I do NOT want to cheat, and I haven't. I was waiting for the 5 pound dinner, but I ate chips. Today I am up 1.5 pounds, probably because they were so salty, and also cos they are evil carbs. Serves me right.

The scale was down a bit again this morning and I'm really hopeful that I'll be down a full 10 lb by Monday morning. That's the start of Week 3 of the challenge, Chicks. I have to say, this challenge thing is really helping me to stay focussed.

Well I blew it yesterday and already today. So Ive decided to take the weekend off, and get back to it tomorrow.
I know exactly why I blew it, and Im not going to let it take hold of me for the next 2 1/2 weeks.
unfortunatley, Im sure the scale moved the other way as of this morning......so Im NOT getting on it

Hi there! Hope you ladies don't mind if I butt in here. I haven't actually started Atkins' plan yet, but I figure that my mom and I will begin on the 16th or 17th. We'll be doing it together. :) This will be a first(the dieting together bit) so I'm rather excited about it. I'd like to lose around 20lbs and Mom about 30lbs. I haven't weighed myself in a few weeks though because I've been terrible lately and I don't want to face the truth yet. As for my mom, well, I don't know her weight. ;) I do both cardio and strength training, and I'm also working on my mom, trying to get her more active.
It seems like everyone's been doing really well so far, keep up the good work! It's certainly very encouraging. :D

It's ok Robin, just jump back in the saddle! Look at how far you have come, and remember you are strong enough to keep going. Tomorrow is a brand new day for you, and you will be victorious!
I'm doing ok...hopefully I will have good news on the scale in the morning. I've become an exercise fiend. I love it!

Oh Robin I'm sure that you'll be strong today... as will all of us!
I've decided that my challenge this week is to give up sugar, in preparation for starting Atkins'. This doesn't include sugar in fruits, however, just sugar in biscuit and candy. I just ate so much chocolate that I feel really ill. :( Ah well at least it's making me determined to give up the bad stuff!

I lost a total of 9 lb in the first two weeks of Induction. I'm very happy. Even though I know it's new blub that I lost (due to my latest binge), I'm still very happy that it's gone.
My challenge for the coming week will be to get enough water and to count my carbs more carefully (who would have thought cauliflower would have so many carbs?) I also have a party at my house next Sunday for my sis's birthday so there will be temptations galore then.
Come on challengers, how's everybody doing 2 weeks into the challenge?

Weigh in. 191lbs, started on July 19 I was at 205. Doing ok, but my eating habits could be better, some days are sooo darn busy that I have no time to eat till evening or late day! So that is my challenge this week, to eat more balanced!

Wow Meowna, that is awesome!
Wow, Linda, you are amazing also!
Ok, don't laugh at me. I lost 2 pounds in the challenge so far. Hahaha! I have the metabolism of a turtle, I guess. I don't cheat, but it just didn't want to come off. I try not to get frustrated, and just look at the overall picture of 10 pounds since the start of July. I could be 10 pounds heavier, but I'm not! It's just going to take a while. Ok, now I convinced myself.
This week's challenge: Exercise every day. I think that was why I lost so slow. I didn't start exercising until Thursday. Well that is when I started losing weight again. Everyday I will exercise. I don't need a day off, no sense in it. Laying around won't burn this fat off, and I'm not getting any younger. Crack that whip!!!
BTW, I know I won't make my goal of 15 pounds for the challenge, considering I am already 4 pounds behind, but I will be happy to lose 2 pounds a week. That's attainable for somebody my weight.

Hello everyone!
I had one of those long stressful weeks, that went into the weekend! I cheated on Saturday..I had a hot pocket! It was so darn good, but I felt sooo darn bad, lol.
Anyway...I am back on the straight and narrow today. I am going to continue with induction until I loose ten more pounds. I have to loose this fat.
I missed reading everyones posts, and posting. I am so glad we are all here for each other!

PS...
Those pb indulge bars are sooo good, esp when we can't have a regular reeses cup.
Oh and the Atkins ice cream...the chocolate ones are soo yummy! They are so expensive though almost five dollars for four little cups. If you let them melt a little bit (put in microwave for ten secs), and put a teaspoon of whipped cream...they tasssssssssssssste great.
Ok everyone have a goodnight!

Julia, that's the spirit, right back at it!
For a good peanut butter treat, mix equal parts natural peanut butter and cream cheese. About two heaping spoons of each. Nuke it for about 10 seconds. Mix and add a pack of Splenda. Mmmm. Hits the spot, and no sugar alcohols like in the bars!

Hi, haven't been here for a while as I've been doing quite good on the diet. I decided not to step on the scales more than once a week and this morning I had finished my first week of induction and even though I can notice my clothes getting looser I was not prepared for what the scales told me - a total of 10lbs has dropped off, now if it were to continue that way I would only have 2 more weeks before goal weight ...
I'm trying to cut back a bit on my proteing (i.e. only have one salmon steak and one chicken breast as I have been overdoing it and feeling absolute stuffed .. now I will only eat until I'm full up)...
Good on us all for doing so well
By the way DH have lost 7 lbs so no more fatty couple ...

Well, unfortunately my weight isn't coming off as fast as I would like it to...I just finished week 2 of induction yesterday and I have lost just about 7 pounds. I know I 'm being hard on myself but I also know I've been eating a lot of low carb treats and lc bread products so I haven't been following induction strickly (still staying under 20 grms though). My 5 week goal is to lose 12 pounds and to go to Curves at least 3 days a week-hopefully that will speed things up a little. Wish me luck!

We just finished week 2 so there are 3 more weeks to go. You will make it Meowna.
Congratulations to all who have lost anything at all. It isn't easy but we know that low carb is the best way and once you're "in the groove" you won't be plagued by carb cravings.
Venetia, I was the same as you on WW. I was hungry all the time and plagued with low blood sugar. I also lost very slowly but then, I lose slowly on any diet. LOL

Linda,:) If I lost any slower they would call me a turtle. I am obcessed with losing and I think about it all the time. But I hate to be hungry, Low Carb takes care of that.
It really does work, maybe not so fast for us but it works. Even if it didn't we feel a lot better. Right? I hate it when my blood sugar gets low and I am deathly afraid of Diabetes. Lost a sister to it.

Welcome to the thread, Venetia and Philly! Glad you are here.
I had my 'victory dinner' on Monday night, Tues morning I am up .5 pounds. Not a big deal. Wed morning I am up another 3 pounds....that IS a big deal! Today I am back down a couple. Still, I am 1.5 more than Monday. Stupid scales!
All is going well. The victory dinner isn't too easy to rebound from. My body wants more, but my head doesn't. Today is my first day to not exercise in a week. Bummer! It happened by accident, long story, but it is really a downer. I was doing so well lately.
Ok, off to bed. Have to get up early!

Hi. I am new as well and want to join in on the fun. You are all so inspiring! I just started induction a few days ago and I am having a hard time following the requirements with my busy lifestyle. Today will probably be the first day I stay under 20g.
I just got married on May 31st and have already put on 5lbs since the wedding! I had actually gone on a crash diet for the wedding day so I suspected I would need a more long-term solution to keep it off.
I know you only have a couple of weeks left so my goal will be 4 pounds. I am 5 feet tall and currently weight 113 and my total goal is 105.
Wish me luck and keep up the great work!

I think I'm gonna cry. Chicks, may I cry?
Now, I realise that everyone is different and 5 lb can seem overwhelming to a tiny person but it's kinda like Michelle Pfeiffer breaking a fingernail.
Minicarps, you are indeed welcome here but you'll have to forgive me if I find it hard to take your problem seriously. Still, you are wise to nip your weight gain in the bud. A few extra pounds really seems to show up on petite women and 150 extra pounds is....well...a LOT of extra baggage to pack around.
I wish you every success on low carb and, if you haven't lost your 5 lb in the next couple of weeks, there is always another challenge.

I suppose it would sound petty if you didn't know that I lost 30 pounds a few years ago and it was a large amount for someone of my size. And yes, this time I would like to address the weight issue of the 10 lbs and "nip it in the bud." I have struggled with my weight almost all of my life.
I was looking to this site to get support and to support others and now my problem being compared to Michelle Pfeiffer breaking a nail???
That's fine. LindaBC, I wish you continued success and hope you reach your goal. However, if you do not want to support me then please refrain from belittling my problem.

And just to add my 2 cents  as always, perspective is everything. Minicarp, it's just hard sometimes when you have a larger amount of weight to lose and see someone who is only 5 pounds from goal is all. Linda is a great lady and I'm sure you are as well, hopefully we'll get a chance to know you better.
And congrats on the other 30lbs you lost before and obviously have kept it off so we all have something to learn from your success. The great news is that on induction you'll probably be down those 5 in no time and back to goal!

Thanks for everyone’s comments. Shall we make a new start?
I have a chocolate addiction and a figure to match it. I have been trying to shake off the last 8 lbs for a couple of years since my big loss of 30 lbs (about 1/3 my body weight.) I realize this is not much for some of you but I guess it goes to show that fighting weight and keeping it off is a battle for life.
I lost the other 30lbs with a lot of support from friends and family. Now, I am an American living in Australia and I am very far from those people and have very few friends here. You have a great forum here, and for those of you who are further from your goal …you are setting yourself up for success just by being here. I KNOW you can do it.!!! I think you are all such lovely people and you are very inspiring and I hope to get to know you all better.
Now, back to the challenge. I will weight in next week despite the fact that I have yet been able to make it under 20 net carbs per day.

Welcome to the board, minicarps. My husband moved here from Holland, so I understand how alienated you might feel. I hope you get plenty of support here to make up for your long distance from 'home'.
Swede, congrats to you and the husband! You can talk kilos here if you are more comfy with it. Most of us probably know the conversion, and if we don't, then it will be a learning experience for us! :)
I weigh in tomorrow officially, but so far no weight loss for this week. I am most likely switching to SBD next week. I think I am just gobbling down too many calories with the foods I am eating. One can only have so much cream and cheddar in a day! I haven't decided yet though...it's just frustrating.

Still no change on the scale. I know that a bit more exercise will move it, but right now, Im happy with it not moving up!!!
Ive changed my eating plan. Ive gone back to Protein Power, its not much different than atkins, but Im paying more attention to the amount of protein Im taking in, and Im not getting so hung up on artificially sweetened stuff. So far the sf jello has been saving me from attacking the krispy kreme lady.
Ive also cut out some of my fat intake, like you said Jennifer, there is only so much cheddar and cream a person can eat.

It doesn't look like I lost anything this week. I just got a new digital scale on Friday. Until then, I was using my hairdresser's scale (non-digital). Maybe it's a little off. My scale says 255.5. I was supposed to be 250 by Sept 1st. Oh well, I will chalk it up to an inaccurate scale lol. Plus I've noticed that depending on where you put the scale, the weight will fluctuate. I put it on my carpeted bedroom floor and it says 245 on my hard kitchen floor it says 255.5. I think the kitchen is the better read since it's a firm surface. I will be weighing myself again next Monday and measuring inches lost.

with a total loss of 5.5kg (11.6lbs) and I'm really happy about it ... I have to say though that since I lost 4.5kg the first week I'm a bit disappointed with only 1 kg the second week .. which I shouldn't be .. as I have had 2 white wine binges in the second week (we're talking big drinking with girlfriends ..:o ) ... I have now got 6.5 kg (14.3 lbs) before I'm at goal but I always find the last hurdle the worst as you feel quite good in yourself having got the first one out of the way and you start saying "this little croissant/sandwich etc. won't hurt and before you know it you're back in craving land again.
So I will try harder sticking to the Atkins, but as I have always said, I won't give up my wine. I've started craving M&S's crispy bacon which has got nitrate in it so I shouldn't actually eat it but it was TOM  and I was craving salt ....
Tomorrow DH and I are going out for dinner so will have a glass or two of wine .... but stick with Atkins when it comes to the food ... :^:
On Friday the whole family is off to France for some thalassic spa treatments and since it's France will indulge in some really nice French wine .. can't help myself but wine is my treat - I'm starting to sound like a right old wino ... the winter will soon be here so won't crave white wine then (only red... )
Anyway, let's not give up on this challenge, still 2 weeks to go and seeing that some of us are stalling we need to keep encouraging each other .. it's so easy to fall of the wagon when your weight is stalling ... keep in mind it's only 2 weeks left of the challenge ... (I'm sure we will start another one after this one but this is the one that counts now ...) so come on you guys - we can do it....

I'm still on plan, I'll not give up! Today was a long day and I just want to go crawl in bed. Had to be at work by 7, worked until 6, took Cody to karate, did the treadmill, showered, and by then it was 9:30 and I still hadn't eaten dinner. I ate a little bit of pork roast to kill the hunger. will not weigh in until next Tuesday. DH and I went out for a meal yesterday, first one in ages ..
I had seared salmon w. blinis to start and did very good at leaving the blinis alone, main course was beef with a creamy sauce, there I sucumbed to eat 5 new potatoes (tiny ones) so not too bad either but then I went and blew the whole thing on a massive piece of Amaretto cheesecake with a coffee sauce which was absolutey heaven ... well it would be after 2 weeks of nothing sweet ... and of course flushed the whole thing down with a bottle of white wine (a small comfort that there is no carbs in that)
Funily enough I don't feel to bloated today and have already got the metallic ketosis taste back in my mouth .. so hopefully I didn't do too much harm.
Off to Biarritz tomorrow but will really try to stick to the carbs. But they do have beautiful croissants and red wine ... oh I feel the weak side of me is shouting down the good one already ....
Yesterday I found a GNC store and they had a lwo carb bar which said it had only ECC 3 per bar, called Xenadrine®, High Protein Weight Control Bars, Chocolate Almond, 60 gm, can this be correct?

We had a lovely weekend in the south west of France and I lasted until Sunday morning before I just had to have a chocolate croissant (or 2) .. I did however eat whatever took my fancy but kept away from bread, pasta, potatoes and rice as well as milk products and fruit so basically Atkins except for the desserts.
Came back and realised I had only put on 2 lbs, brilliant!!!!:D
I'm now back on the diet and it feels good - only 2 weeks to go (or is it less?)... I hope to loose 8 lbs (3.5 kgs) before next weekend (5/9) as my parents are coming to visit then and I would love them to see me just 5kgs off my wedding weight...
I did have a bar of some milk chocolate stuff and it did taste quite disgusting (that's a first)..

Minicarps, I haven't given up coffee. I tried that last year when I was on the Fat Flush Plan which only added to my misery. I find that one or two cups of 1/2 decaff in the morning help rev up my metabolism as well as getting "things" moving (if you catch my drift). I'll even have a cup of coffee (but only decaff or half decaff) in mid-afternoon to help get me over the mid-day slump.
Otherwise, I'd say I'm pretty faithful to Induction. I've moved on from only salads to some cooked low carb veggies with my evening meal, but I don't dare branch out into fruit yet. I'm now trying various recipes to get more variety into my menu such as the Cheesy Biscuit-Thingies that I posted in Miscellaneous Recipes. At only 1.5 carbs each, they're a welcome treat for putting tuna salad on or for dipping into egg yolk. I'm still usually under 20 gr of carbs per day.
I've never been much of a wine drinker (or any other booze) so it's no great hardship for me to do without it but I believe that after Induction you can add in a glass once in a while if you allow for the carbs.

Tummy you are a nut! HA. Thank you for the compliment though. The biggest thrill was finding my waist again and putting on my old size 14 jeans and be able to do up all the buttons! I'll trade you that one snobby inch for your hip size! Anyways holiday or not we still have therapy appts today for little man and daycare runthrew! It was not hard to lose the last 10lbs, I haven't had the time to eat more than a little bite here and there.
Looking forward to the next Challenge!

I started the challenge I believe at week 3 or 4. I met my 5 lb weight loss goal last week. I started at 256 and I am now 248.5. :)

My goal was to lose 10 lb in the 5 weeks and I did it. I thought I'd lost an extra couple of pounds but they came back on over the weekend. Not because I cheated but because I think I had too much salt and not enough water.
I sure envy you gals who have waists to brag about. I'm shaped like a barrel. :( But, I am on my way to "waist"land. Why don't we make the next challenge an 8 week challenge ending at Hallowe'en? I figure if I can keep up this rate of 2 lb a week I should be able to lose 16 lb. :^: I hope I'm not being overly optimistic.

So, I did have a few cheats last week, was on my own as DH had gone to Atlanta (we're in London, UK). One night I just had to have some toast and then of course the next night I blew it totally with chocolate, ice cream and pasta - which made me feel like crap .. :(
I was back on the Atkins the next day and to my surprise I had not put any weight on ... stayed the same but that in my book is a miracle... :dizzy:
Well done to all of us for keeping it up, it's the first diet I really feel like sticking with - :cp:
DH came back with some Atkins wafers (you can't buy any Atkins products in the UK) and even if they were good definately not worth the price ... the Aktins (or any lowcarb) food is so expensive .... :sp:
Is the 5 week challenge up yet? I've still got at least 14lbs to loose but will be happy if they come off by Christmas ... I'm up for an 8 week challenge and hopefully it will bring me down 9lbs so I only have 5lbs to worry about ..
