Default off-topic - What's with the new ad?

Have you guys noticed the new ad that 3FC has on here? It looks for keywords in our posts and highlights them as a hotlink to matchmaker.com. So far, I've seen words like boyfriend and dating highlighted.

I'm not sure I like this. I understand that 3FC is a business, but I don't like the idea of MY words being used to recommend a site that I may or may not necessarily condone. (Think of it this way. How would you like to have your post link to a porn site every time you just happened to use the word "breasts?")

Just wondering what you guys think...

Hhmm, I haven't noticed that. The only ad that keeps popping up for me is an Atkins ad. Since I'm not on Atkins and have never used the word, I'm not sure why that one keeps coming up.

Let me try something. . .sex, sex, sex.

I have been getting the Atkins one, and one for Cheap tickest.com (here at home) at work pop ups come for a cell phone, and different diet pills.

If you are getting the hotlink thing happening, then you have a program on your PC installed that is doing it. I remember seeing it at college one time and it was driving me insane until I uninstalled it (I think the links were thick yellow ones if I remember correctly). The only popup I keep getting here is for Atkins.

I would recommend downloading Ad-Aware and scanning your computer. It will probably pick the program up and remove it for you.

Yeah...it's not a pop-up. It actually highlights the word and makes it a hotlink to an outside sight.

Raelynn...I will check my computer. I knew something had to be up when I saw that the word overweight on the main page for the message boards was linked to a site that sells ephedrine!

Thanks for the help

That's exactly what it was, Raelynn! I downloaded and ran Ad-Aware and it found 526 different data mining items on my computer! Scary!

Thanks again for the help

@ SAPF

No problem Jennelle, I'm glad I could help. I would recommend running Ad-Aware on a monthly basis to keep your PC free of spyware.

I would actually reccomend

http://security.kolla.de/ = Spybot Search & Destroy

over Ad Aware.

I ran AdAware, then Spybot - spybot picked up another 500 items adaware had missed. Spybot also blocks spyware as well.
