Let's liberate ourselves from bad habits and declare our freedom to celebrate our healthy lifestyles in July! The monthly weight loss challenge is a great place to track your progress every month.

State your goal for July and join a supportive and encouraging group to help you meet it. We will compile our goals into a list. As each goal is met during the month, it gets turned RED in celebration.

My goal is to get into the 180s (a bit ambitious for me, but it's an ambitious month!). The first few pounds should come off easily as I'm pretty sure it's just water weight from my diet break.

Last month I lost half of what I needed to reach my next mini goal of being at my prepregnancy weight so I'd like to lose the rest this month. It's a bit ambitious considering the amount lost in June but this whole past week I've been mostly stalled so I'm hoping for a whoosh soon to get me started.

I abandoned the June challenge for the last week or two because I wasn't losing anything, so I kinda stopped calorie counting for a week for a mental break. Didn't gain anything and kept exercising, though, so I'm still satisfied and feeling ready to pick up the weight-loss flag again. I'd like to hit 145.0 this month. Not sure how that'll go, since I'll be visiting my parents for 10 days in the middle, but that's the goal, anyway.

...wrong direction if I'm trying to get rid of 5 pounds of fat :P Now 5.4...overate yesterday.

Question - do most people update their weight in this thread daily? I'm not typically a daily weigher, but I also usually only make a notation when I have a loss. I think writing it down more often may help keep me focused.

nonameslob, I think most of us weigh every day. I do for two reasons. First, helps keep me focused, like you said, and second, it makes it easier to ignore fluctuations. My weight can bounce up and down 2-3 pounds just in water weight from day to do, so if I only weighed once a week, an 'up' fluctuation could make it look like I'm not losing any fat. Weighing everyday makes it a lot easier not to freak out.

BigChiefHoho Thanks. I've never participated in one of these threads before. I don't typically weigh every day because I do 5:2, so my most accurate (and lowest) weight tends to be the day after my second fast for the week and my fluctuations are much larger than someone on a more "normal" diet. But I think I'll weigh (mostly) daily for this month just to see how it goes! I don't usually get emotionally affected by the fluctuations so I think if anything, it will be interesting!

Hello Everyone, I'm back and am in for 5 lbs for July!

I last posted at the end of April when I felt like i was practically finished. I had gotten comfortable and finally went out and bought a bunch of new clothes. In June I got married and lost focus on my diet and exercise for a few weeks and was reminded how easily and quickly the pounds return. I have refused to step on the scale for a few weeks, but finally bit the bullet this morning. It isn't as bad as I'd feared, I didn't gain as much as I feel like I gained. It is funny though how heavy I feel after having made it down to my low two months ago. I guess it is all relative. That and the new clothes I bought make me feel like i'm squeezing in to them - not good and time to take control back!! I've caught up on this thread, great to see familiar faces here as well as new faces! Good luck everyone, lets rock July!!

nonameslob: we're all over the place on how often we weigh and post. If you haven't tried daily weighing, it's an interesting exercise -- eventually, it can become just data and not a judgment on our worth as a human being. Very helpful!

starfaerie82: My plan for today's family potluck is "no snacks, focus on the veggies, tiny servings of everything else." That's worked for me in the past.

PintSizedTerror: Yep! If you join today, you'll be on the initial list of challenge participants. If I'm not too tired, I'll make it tonight. It's never too late to join! We had a couple of successes last month with people who joined for the last week!

Hi everybody! I'm new to this forum and to this challenge. I'm a brazilian soon-to-be-30-yo with a somewhat rusty english who's trying to lose weight, exercise and overcome (or at least cope/deal with) a binge eating disorder - not necesarily in that order. I'm going for something that resembles intuitive eating but i'll sometimes count calories... I've lost 30 pounds so far but i still need to lose 62. I'm not in a hurry to lose weight (hurrying did NOT work at all in the past) but i feel i need to start setting small doable goals to get me motivated. I won't be beating myself down if i don't meet them, so i guess it's just a matter of feeling like i have a more structured plan. I hope this is suitable for this forum and i count on your help and avice! Oh, don't mind my grammar and spelling mistakes, i'm a portuguese speaker, ok?

Goals for july:

1 - Lose weight or at least dont gain weight
2 - Try hard not to binge eat
3 - Workout everyday and do my abs!
4 - Go from 192lb to 186lb. (So... lose 6 lbs)

Hello all, BFR returning to the roost.

I have not posted since the 29th of January. I had been on the course of putting on more muscle with different light exercises, weight hanging around 232 lbs, and going to start with the loss again.

But something happened on the way to the fair. My legs were giving out despite my.trying to exercise. And pain returned to my joints making exercise out of reach. My muscles started atrophying again. My ability to think was rapidly diminishing, I was beginning to feel like an idiot. I was sure Oldtimers was setting in fast (thoughts of Reagan) Though I used to have par excellent balance I was staggering around like a drunk, tripping on everything, bouncing off the walls walking down the hall. My nice long fast stride turned into that old man shuffle that I often see and feel sorry for the person with it. My range of movement was severely limited, I could only turn my head about 12 degrees to each side, could not take big steps. I could not believe how fast old age was setting in on me.

I was eating right, had cut out all processed foods, have not had processed foods since last Oct when I learned what they were really about. Cut out almost all dairy, quit buying cheese except for twice buying a block of pepper jack this year so far and still have half a block left. Very little red meat, all fresh. Except for eggs, mostly vegetable eating.

Despite being in that condition I went out in March and started my garden again, if for nothing else kinda therapy. I worked long hours on it best I could. That helped, but little. Little improvement was better than going further downhill.

One day while checking up on different herbs/spices to plant to help keep gophers away from the veggies, I got caught up in reading what the properties of thyme, oregano, mint and basil do for a person. I knew those were very oldtime (ancient) medicinal herbs but like most people discounted most of them in favor of "modern" medicine. I was intrigued but the things they were used for. One day before I went to work (yes, I still managed to do some electrical work, though my helper had to do most of the ladder work, if I did go up the ladder he had to get behind me and PUSH ME UP!!! Honest injun. But it worked. Anyway, before going to work that morning just for the heck of it I decided to eat some of each of those herbs. Green, fresh, straight off the plants in the garden. Now, to get in the truck (I have my helper drive) I would sit on the seat, put my left leg in OK, but for my right leg I had to take both hands and lift it to get it up and in though my work truck is a low Toyota utility bed one ton. I just could not lift that leg to get it in by itself.

After eating those herbs I noticed a few hours later that I had more freedom of movement. And It was much easier to get my leg in the truck, I could take a little bit longer steps and my balance was better. I was even able to go up into the attic to help my helper with some complicated wiring problems. Not easy, but I was able to. The day before I could not have.

I was not sure, but I attributed the change to those herbs. That was two months ago that I started eating them. And what a difference in me. My stride is almost back to normal, I think clearer, faster and better, sense of balance has returned, no more staggering walk. And my joints no longer pop when I move. As a matter of fact I have better joint function now (with the exception of my knees joints need replacement) than I have had in many years. My head turns freely back and forth almost shoulder to shoulder. My feet for the past 15 years, if I rotated them the bones popped in them continuously. Now they do not pop hardly any at all, just once or twice first thing in the morning. And I can bend and touch the floor now. My back hardly ever hurts though it has been injured three times in the past.

I know there are other things I am forgetting to say.... Oh yes, my short term memory had really improved.... anyway I am extremely grateful for this difference in me and now am ready to return to this forum and return to weight loss.

With the symptoms I have/had I checked with the doctor and she agreed it looks like I have multiple sclerosis. They are making an appt for a neurologist for me on that. That may sound horrible, but would rather have that than alzheimers which I thought was kicked me in the azz.

My weight as of last post in January 29 says I was hanging around 232 lbs. And I was. I have picked up 7 lbs this past 5 months, to me that is not very bad. I am now ready to return to weight loss being as it looks like I may live a bit longer :)

I see many of the original posters are still here and I am very grateful for that. Though I gotta admit I am a tad jealous of Mrs Snark's popping her way through June.

My apologies for not coming on and posting during that time but I just could not come on here sniveling and crying to you wonderful peoples. My ego would not allow that and I was not about to come on lying and claiming something I could not do anymore. Actually, I was too busy trying to figure out what the heck was happening to me and what I was going to do.

My weight will be as of tomorrow morning when I post this for the beginning of the July challenge. (the weight as of July 1 was 235)

Frankly, I do not have a weight loss goal to try to achieve. I still just am not ambitious in that area yet. So my goal is to try to get that ambition back and maybe lose a few lbs of fat while doing it.

My worst problem is of an evening just before going to bed, though not hungry I make a sandwich or two (vegetable) or make some popcorn and share it with my doggies. My goal will also be to start getting that under control or eliminate it.

The above was written as of the night of June 30. This is now the 5th of July. I am doing way better on the late night eating (fingers crossed)

My weight as of this morning was 232, but the July 1 weight of 235 will be my starting weight.

As weight fluctuates so much I will just have to wait and see what it is. I will set a goal this month of 6 lbs but I am not going overboard to achieve it. My real goal is to get back in here with those of you who have been here for so long. It is very good to see those of you, and yall know who you are.

For those of you who are new to weight loss, I wish to remind you that it takes a deficit of 3500 calories below what you need for maintenance weight, and conversely, to gain one lb you must eat and metabolize 3500 calories above (in addition to) what you need for maintenance of current weight. I heavily recommend not being upset/worried/bothered by daily weight fluctuations. If you are eating 3500 calories less per week than it takes to maintain your weight you will lose 1 lb. If your weight goes up 2 or 3 lbs over a day or two, do not be that concerned, it is extremely difficult to eat an excess of 7000 calories in a day or two to make that kind of gain.

I'm trying something that is brand new at my gym tonight -- they are starting a running "class". I'm worried about the pace of the group -- i've run for a long time, but i normally prefer to run alone at my own pace that i think is slower then a lot of experienced runners.... Tonight's class should be fine though as it is a 1 Kilometer run to a park to do running drills -- i can't be left too far behind!!!

gardenerjoy - Glad to hear that my english is good enough; it's been many years since the last time i've been to England! I just realized that you measure your weight in kgs instead of lbs and i might just do that because in Brazil we never ever use pounds! I've been converting my weight in kg to lbs every time i post. I just figured that it was one of those unspoken norms of the forum (silly me).

Changing from lbs to kgs:
Start weight: 87,4
Goal weight: 84,4

7/01 = 87,4
7/06 = 86,6
7/07 = 86,9

So my goal is to eliminate 3kgs. I should have used kgs from the start... it sounds much more tangible now! :)

I just realized that a week has gone by this month so I need to post.

Starting weight 235, goal for month, lose 6 lbs and cut down on late night eating.

Doing great with cutting out late night eating and the doggies seem to be ok with it also :) Weight as of this morning 232, seemingly down 3. I bought some packages of cookies when at the store last Friday and have been into them too much..... so much so that they are all gone. So to put the kietis on that I will just not buy more. Most all meals have been mainly veggies from my garden.

Yesterday night was bad, really bad... i binged. Not a huge binge, but a binge anyway. Later i was really sick and spent the night in the bathroom, which caused me to lose a lot of water. Woke up feeling weak. I'm not weighing myself today because my weight would probably be lower than yesterday due to the massive water loss. Tomorrow i'll se the size of the damage. Hopefully my exercising daily and a bit more today will help me get back on track. The time when i would just give up eating healthy and caring for myself after a binge episode it's oh so gone!

Only a .4 loss from last Friday. I'd be disappointed, but I am going hard on the strength training this month so actually I'm quite thrilled that I still lost! Can't wait til my body lets go of this workout related water weight :)

Okay, here's the deal. I am completely out of control and have to pull myself together. We were without a computer for about a week due to major crash. I am back online and need to get back on track. I was so happy to see some of my old friends - Woodstock and Big Fat Rooster!!!
At the beginning of the month I was at 158. I was 163.1 this morning. I am still wanting to make my original goal. Will be hitting the workout videos and fresh fruits and veggies. Will take any support and admonishments, as I need both.

I am taking a little detour :lol: Son had a baseball tournament that totally threw me off. Still under 140 pounds though :yay:. Now back OP and marching towards the 135 mark, still have plenty of time left in this month to get there. I seem to lose bloat quite easy, so I will stay OP, I should be there no later than early next week, maybe even before.

Thank you so much for the encouragement, it is so hard seeing everyone's successes when I'm not able to get my act together. I feel like a turd. But I promised myself I would see these challenges through no matter what so I won't give up.

I did everything RIGHT on the 14th and was rewarded with a 1.6 gain yesterday morning. Yikes? I didn't step on this morning because I didn't want my whole day tainted with bad feelings, but I ate and exercised really well yesterday and I will today, so I'll hopefully see a slight decrease by tomorrow. Hope, hope, hope! :)

I'm not sure if i will be able to lose 3kgs as I am planning... on friday i'll travel to my parent's and stay there for 10 days. Usually whem i'm there we eat out A LOT and mom buys really delicious bread, cheese, snacks, well... delicious everything! Both my mom and dad are thin. My mom is one of those people who can eat whatever she wants and never gain weight and my dad was previously obese but since he lost the extra weight he acts annoyngly obsessive about food. He looooooves to talk about what he is doing to maintain or lose even more weight and will skip meals even if we go7 to a restaurant. He also has a strange pleasure offering me and my mom food and i feel he enjoys when there's a person eating more than him at a meal. He will also calculate the amount of calories i'm eating just for fun without being asked, just to show that he has calories memorized... Love them a lot, but it is not easy to maintain my healthy habits there.

Well, definitely not doing as well as I'd hoped. My eating has been okay, but still not where it should be. My current weight is 228.6, so that's 1.4 pounds lost so far this month. I've been doing much better so far this week, so hoping I'll start dropping soon. I did get some exciting news Monday afternoon, and had a meeting with the person yesterday. Please pray that everything goes as I'm hoping :goodluck: This would be an exciting change for my life that would definitely relieve a lot of stress, and I would be working right across the hall from my best friend! I should hear back by next Friday. This next week is going to be torture.

Marina_Brasil: 10 days with parents would be a challenge for most people, and your situation sounds particularly puzzling. What goals can you set for yourself? What sort of plan can you make? Maybe something like "I will eat a giant salad for at least one meal a day." Or, "I will eat no more than one snack a day."

No surprise on my poor week -- exercise has been completely on plan, but the summer evening cocktails are simply unforgiving. On a positive note, although the scale is up, I "feel" smaller then i felt at the beginning of the week (in fact i'm somewhat suspicious of my scale result this morning but will keep it since i do tend to keep the low results that i'm sometimes suspicious of - Ha!)

boating mommy I guess my dad is just really insecure and self conscious when it comes to his body. Since he lost weight he is always competing with whoever is near him when it comes to food. I don't believe he does it intentionally, though. He respects when i say i don't want what he offers me, but he'll offer me lots and lots of food, including those type of food i can't have near me or there's a good chance i'll binge eat. Thanks for the support! I'll focus on having a nice time and avoiding sugary food. (Oh, and i must tell that we had snow in my city last year...the weather is crazy! I live in the south of Brazil and it gets really cold in winter, but snow is rare in my city although in some places even more to the south it snows every year.)

gardenerjoy My main goal is to not gain weight, which will be hard! I also will try my best to stick to my 3 meals a day and maybe something sweet everyday, which is also really hard because my mom will buy everything-chocolate and the house is always filled with sugary treats. My partner will be joining me at my parents for the last 5 days so it might be easier to be together because we support each other a lot.

Woodstock I'm in the same boat, exercise has been on plan, eaten almost entirely vegetarian this week, which makes me feel good and feel smaller as well, so I'm just going to keep on and try to be patient...

Marina Brasil have a wonderful visit, sounds like you're aware of your challenges and coming up with a plan. Whatever happens weight wise, when you get back, you'll get back on your routine. Lately I've been looking at where I was this time last year as inspiration to keep at it, I'm up a couple from my low this year but still down from last year.

Last time i posted i mentioned there was a scale same as mine at my parents's so i would be weighing myself while staying with them. Well, i just weighed myself naked and all and the scale shows 90kgs, while my scale at home was showing 86 (that's about 8.8 pounds diference!). I just want to curl up in a ball and die ( bit dramatic, i know!). Lol! In the past this scale has given me the same weight as mine scale did back home. After mentioning this discrepancy with my mum she said she is sure this scale is right and they've been using it and are pleased with it. I'm feeling dismotivated.... I know diferent scales have diferent results but this one didn't and now I really want to know which is more acurate.

I won't keep track of my current weight but i might weigh myself a couple of times in order to keep track of the weight diference.

Marina_Brasil: The difference is all that matters. If you're staying the same or going down on your parents' scale, then you'll be pleased when you get home. (That would be a big shock, though!)

I am almost halfway to my goal! Last week was rough; my dog was sick and had to have emergency surgery (he's doing just fine now!), and he basically needed constant care. Today was the first day in a week that I made it to the gym. I will get to the gym at least four times this week.

I also realized that I haven't been eating enough calories. I thought I had a "bad" week because I went over my limit several days, and I actually lost weight. Hopefully, upping the limit by a few hundred won't have an adverse effect. Trial and error, right?

This was a great week! I am now at 223.2!! Only 3.2 lbs to go to reach my goal for the month of July. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job as they ended up not hiring anyone. They rearranged current staff to save money this year. She did say that they were very impressed with me and will stay in touch for when a position does open up! Hope everyone has a great week!

Thanks for the info GardenerJoy and MarinaBrasil that's cool, very interesting. I love learning stuff like that, you guys are better than google, especially since I meant to look it up but didn't...

I bought a couple plants at the garden center (on sale) basil and parsley and some cherry peppers, it's raining too much to plant them, yesterday I was worried about them drying out in the heat...

BFR checking in. My PC went on the blink two weeks ago. Writing on tiny ph key order.

My goal of 6 lbs was met last week. Weight today 226, down 9 lbs. Hope more drops off during remaining month.

Keliphja, though as Joy said, it is not polite to examine a gift for faults (and I have been hearing that saying for over 60 years) yours is not a gift. You earned it though payday came upon you unexpectedly.

I hope to have a new PC soon so posting will not be a chore.

All of you are doing fine, you are losing weight and not gaining.
