Hello everyone!
I have a question about loose skin as a result of weightloss. I know that it has probably been discussed but i'm afraid none of it has quite answered my quesions. So anyway, here it is:

I am a 21 year old female who has been overweight most of my life. Over the last year due to being in an unhappy relationship and suffering with my mental overall wellbeing I gained even more weigh (YIKES) and then I realised that it was time to change.

So amazingly over the last 5 months, I have gone down from 120.5 kgs (265 ponds) to 89 kgs (196 pounds) and am aiming to lose another 19kgs. I have done this in the healthy way, eating healthily, sleeping regularly and exercising everyday, so for some reason my body has just decided to lose weight quickly.

With this info in mind, I have a few questions:
1. How likely is it that I will be left with masses of excess skin?
2. Any advice on how to help minimise the chances?
3. How can you tell if you are getting excess skin and
3. How likely is it that it would go back on its own?

Im just worried that I am working so hard to love my body for the first time, to only end up with a body I wont be able to love, you know?

Thank you heaps guys, any help would be hugely appreciated <3

Welcome, Welcome!

You have expressed a lot of the normal weightloss journey feelings, so welcome to the club.

You should check out the body image issues after weightloss forum section for info on loose skin and post-weightloss body advice.
Link: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/body-image-issues-after-weight-loss-219/

Most specifically, the FAQ on loose skin: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/body-image-issues-after-weight-loss/36040-weight-loss-skin-faqs.html

However, I'll quickly summarize what you'll find in those forums.

The Bad:
-Loose skin may happen
-Being overweight for most of your life may mean your skin may mean more loose sking

-You may have NO loose skin
-Skin takes 1 year to fully adjust, so you have time
-You are YOUNG, which means more elastic skin and a great chance that your skin will tighten with you

What you can do:
Nothing really, loose skin is dependent on age/genetics/health history etc.

HOWEVER, building muscle tone can help fill the skin making it taut
Also, losing weight gradually gives your skin time to adjust

Bottom line, its not something you can really predict, you just have to make the leap of faith and see where it leads you. Please check out the aforementioned threads if you want more info about the factors that tend to affect loose skin appearance as well as recommendations by maintainers who are dealing with their post-weightloss body. There is also lots of information about tummy tucks are other surgery options if you feel that might be your path. Best of luck to you! And try not to stress too much about what might happen!

Thank you so much!
This has really helped ease my anxieties and I really appreciate it.
You're right I need to look at the bigger picture here, lose weight and be healthy, or stay overweight and unhealthy.

It's not just about how you look, it's about how you feel :)

Tank you again
