Hey everyone. Just moving us up a thread. Hope everyone has a great weekend. It is going to be rain, rain and it looks like it is about ready to come down now. Faye

It is another very warm day here in the ♥-Land and looks like we will be getting more rain this evening. We got quite the down pour last night which we are thankful for.

I was sitting in the Jeep waiting outside the museum for a man to pick out which very old picture he wants to have enlarged to hang in his office. He settled on one of the old courthouse being built with folks standing around in period dress. Will is having it enlarged for he wants to hang it in his office where he is a Parole Agent. His brother is our friend who owns the gun shop and we met him there and got to talking about all those old neat pictures the museum has that may “be one of a kind.” While sitting there the freight train went by on the tracks running 3 blocks back from the street the museum is on. I could hear that lonesome call of the whistle that really carries in this damp weather.

Before we went out and about this day I put a roast in the crock pot along with an envelope of onion soup mix, baby carrots, whole small mushrooms, celery, onion and potatoes all cut up in large chunks and piled on top then poured a cup of water over it all. It will make a yummy dinner later this day. Before placing the meat in the pot I cut slits in it in which I inserted slivers of fresh cut garlic. We could smell it cooking when we got back from being out and about when we came up to the back door. I can smell it cooking clear back here in my office. Makes my mouth water.

DONNA FAYE Thank you for starting a new thread.

JEAN I do hope all is well on your trip and you can park the boat closer.

Good Morning! Sun is out but it is cool. Guys just left to go fishing. Bob caught two nice walleyes last night. That's the best luck he's ever had, the first time out, in all the years we've been coming here. Not sure what we gals will do today, most likely read and knit. The router died yesterday so the owner will be here today to install a new one.

Hope you all enjoy a super Sunday!

Good morning all. We are going to be leaving in about half an hour for the dreaded commissary run. It is supposed to rain today, which seems normal on Commissary Sundays. I hope it holds off until we get back home and Jack can get the car unloaded.

I absolutely love my hair. She colored it then straight razor cut it wet and used another weird looking razor tool to cut it then dried it and scissor cut it the rest of the way. It is nice and short and since I have been off those awful hormones 8 months now, my hair has grown back in thicker too. I have very fine hair so it is never going to be thick, but I don't have see through patches any longer.

Just got a call from Jack's sister and looks like in a couple weeks they are coming through town to go to his brother's in VA. I guess we will take them and their son out to dinner, but it is going to be a weeknight and late when they get in so who knows what's going to happen.

Maggie: We are having pork chops and scalloped potatoes for dinner tonight. I use the dry gravy mixes to fix lots of different things and use soup and soup mixes too.

Jean: I am attaching a pic of my nails. This is actually two layers an aqua one and then the sparkle layer. You never realize how old your hands look until they are in a photo. That is one thing about all these celebs and their facelifts and such to look young. Their hands still look 60 years old. There is no "handlift" that I know of. :o

You gals have a great day. We are off in just a few minutes. Faye

06-08-2014, 03:25 PM
Have had fish for lunch and the kitchen put back together again. Paper plates sure make it easy. :cp:

"Gma," thank you for starting the new thread. :D Hope you made it to the commissary and home again without getting wet. Your new hairdo sounds cute, and your nails are so pretty! I should have had mine done before we left. Wearing a darker polish sure shows as they grow out, and I don't like that. I sure can't afford to go every week to have them painted. I think my hands look "old" too.

Maggie, I think the boat is on the dock where it usually is tied. I haven't been down to the beach area to look. We could tell the water is really high as we drove to the cabin. I guess the area north of here got 9" of rain in a couple days last week and they were already saturated. I could almost smell your roast cooking. :T

Guess I will go outside and join my "sister," Connie. She is knitting baby hats for their hospital nursery. Her sister used to knit baby booties for a crisis pregnancy center in AZ where they lived.

Good morning gals. We had big thunderstorms all night that kept me awake. Jack slept right through them he said. I don't know how he does that. These were really loud.

Today is clean upstairs day I think. I put in a pot roast with carrots and new potatoes and a can off ff beef broth into the crockpot so don't have to worry about supper at least.

We were so mad at the commissary yesterday. They open at 9:30 on Sundays but you can't check out until 10 unless you are handicapped. We went to check out around 10:45 and they had express checking, which is you check yourself out and 1 register opened and at least 9 people in line. They need to fire the head cashier because she sits in her office instead of walking the store to see how many customers there are. Took us forever to get checked out.

Jean: Hope you are drying out up there and congrats to Bob on catching his fish. Do you clean and eat them on your trip or clean and freeze them and bring them home? I bought a light yellow, a purple and even a green polish to wear. I think they are nice spring colors and you aren't limited to pinks, corals, and reds anymore. I wouldn't do black or brown of course, but the other colors are fun. My skin is so light I can get away with it I guess.

Everyone have a great start to their week. We are now less then 15 weeks until vacation and I cannot wait. Faye

Good Morning! It's a cloudy morning and supposed to rain. Not sure if the guys will stay close to shore or wait and see what the weather does. Sister, Connie, and I are heading to the mall and out for lunch. :D

"Gma," I can usually sleep through thunderstorms unless Bob gets up and prowls around. If there are wind warnings before bed time he'll stay up later "just in case." It's too bad the commissary shopping is such a challenge. I wonder if it is as bad on a weekday. Is the base large enough that it's always busy? How about clothes or household items, or is it just food available there? Not sure who, but they caught more fish so that was dinner yesterday. We usually take some home too. Last year we didn't have many to bring home, just enough for one meal I think. Every once in awhile there is a FB Christmas update on how many days until Christmas -- reminds me of you and Jack counting down the days until vacation. ;)

Hope you all enjoy a marvelous Monday!

06-09-2014, 06:30 PM

Hallelujah! We have been out and about in this beautiful rainy day. :rain: I love it and we need it so desperately. It rains awhile then slows down a bit and it soaks in then it comes back around and rains some more. Supposed to be like this again tomorrow and I hope that is the case. The dog’s day at the groomer for a bath and hair cut and they sure look and smell good. They are napping now for it tires them out a bit when they go to the groomer.

Dinner today will be an easy one for I cut up the left over roast and put it into the veggies and gravy and will thin it down with some bouillon and water for a great soup with some crisp toasted French bread.

YIPEKIO Magnolias I showed a whopping 3 pound loss this morning at my weigh in. I don’t usually lose so much at once but being back OP after a bit of a vacation and keeping track of my points+ that I consumed did the trick. I know if I write what I bite it does pay off usually but no more than a pound at a time. Today is my day to walk so I will do that in a bit adding a minute.

Cecil just came into my office and wanted some attention ~ soaking wet. The rain doesn’t faze him at all and he loves being outside. He doesn’t shake it off like the dogs do.

JEAN I hope you had fun at the mall and a good meal out for lunch. Fresh fish is so good cooked soon after it is caught. Yum.

DONNA FAYE I can sleep through a storm ~ always have been able even as a child. Sounds like your commissary is needing new management of the checkers. Just maybe they need an under manager to oversee the checkers since the manager has work to do in the office. I don't remember every having the troubles you have when we went to one in CA. There aren't any close enough to us here to make it worth going to for the gas it would use to get there and back would eat up the difference plus some. You may be doing more shopping at Wal*Mart in the near future for aren't they talking about closing down the commissaries?

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

06-10-2014, 08:30 AM
Good morning to you all. More thunderstorms last evening and everything is wet so we had more rain overnight. We have flash flood warnings too as we have gotten an awful lot of rain in the last month or so. We are still expecting rain pretty much the rest of the week.

I have to get upstairs and finish this morning. Gonna strip the sheets and do the dusting then it is all done for a few days again. The spare bedroom is a disaster though as we have a long table set up in there with the suitcases on it and under it and clothes and shoes everywhere along with supplies I have bought for vacation. At least we have someplace to put stuff instead of having it in the bedroom or whatever and constantly having to move it.

Jean: We don't ever go to the commissary on weekdays because Jack always goes with me now. We have been there once in awhile if he is on vacation or whatever, but it is busy enough to keep it open for sure. The problem lies in management not the number of people. The head cashier told me herself that she has cashiers on standby in the back that don't come up front until she calls them. My opinion is if they are there they are getting paid so even if there aren't customers why aren't they standing at their registers instead of sitting in the back smoking and goofing off? She also always tries to tell me people call off. Well, I can see that to a point, but it is her tried excuse and it doesn't fly 100% of the time. The head of the commissary is a military officer always and he can't be fired! I have complained to everyone I know of, but I get lip service. Jack informed me on Friday we go below 100 days. The man has a vacation tracker! I can understand that though as he works everyday and lately he has been having to get down and up on his knees a lot because of some problems with some new equipment and he comes home in a lot of pain. One thing that helps is Aleve though. It doesn't take it all away, but it does ease it quit a bit and he wears one of those copper knee sleeves that helps when he doesn't forget to put it on in the morning. I found this cute confetti looking stuff you can paint over your nail color. You can get it in a variety of color combos. The only thing is the company is in Russia!

Maggie: Yaaa, :carrot: on lbs down. I was going to do the same thing with our pot roast, but it was so small there wasn't enough to really use.

Hope you all have a nice day. Faye

06-10-2014, 10:39 AM
Good Morning! The sun is shining and it looks like another nice day. The guys are going to town after more fishing "stuff." Not sure what we gals are going to do. We may do some snooping through the area antique/quilt/gift shops after lunch. I spent my "wad" yesterday, so can't think of anything I need. I didn't sleep very well last night. I think I drank too much water too late in the day. My legs were achy from walking through the huge mall yesterday. I need to get back to walking on a regular schedule.

Maggie, :congrat: on the GREAT loss! :cheer: Glad you got some much needed rain yesterday. We had lunch at Panera Bread. I'd never eaten there so that was fun -- food was good!

"Gma," I think you've had more than your share of rain lately. It has been interesting to watch the weather happenings around the country. We always say that if you don't like the local weather, wait a few hours and it will change. If we are leaving I always take a sweater or jacket along just in case. Are there public places where smokers can still smoke in TN? Up here there are lots of places you can't even smoke of the property. Employees have to smoke in their cars driving around the block. Jack is definitely in a vacation mind set!

I need to get dressed in case Connie wants to go somewhere, I will be ready! :D Hope you all enjoy a terrific Tuesday!

It was a beautiful sun shiny day here in the ♥-Land. I just had a small sandwich from Subway for lunch and skinless chicken from KFC for dinner. I love ordering the kids size for it is just enough at Subway. When I order one of the kids sandwiches I have them load it will veggies and jalapeno peppers. I like giving those neat bags the sandwiches come in and the toy to a gal who has a little kid. I didn’t have a clue of what I was going to fix for dinner but before very long Will had mentioned KFC since we hadn’t been there in quite awhile.

All three of the baby buffalo are female and doing well. It sure looks like the fourth adult female is PG and will give birth soon.

Not much happening around here this day. I did receive a package of things I had ordered and am happy with the “stuff.” The galvanized tub will be quite big enough to bathe the dogs in when we are traveling and the plunger thing to wash clothes with looks like it will certainly get all the dirt out of a garment. The small scrub board of glass will be great for washing unders and shirts on. If I never have to use these at least I will have them for I know at times we will be camping where the only hookup is a source of water. Otherwise when we do have hookups then I can use my little washer and spin dryer and will be glad I have that tub to do the dogs in. Since we won’t have as many clothes as we do now it is important to me to be able to have a way to clean some things.

DONNA FAYE Maybe next time you will get a bigger cut of meat so you can have some good soup the next day. I love doing that with roast.

JEAN I have never eaten at Panera Bread but hear it is good. We have just never been a place that had one of their restaurants. There may be one in one of the bigger cities here and I will have to check it out.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Good morning to you ladies. The rain will hold off until around noon than back at it for awhile. I guess we are supposed to have a nice day tomorrow then Friday rain all day. UGH, I am now sick of rain.

I need to tackle part of the downstairs today, but my old bones are aching this morning so don't know. All this rain kicks up the arthritis for sure.

I have some cool cake batter recipes if anyone wants them I will post whatever you want. They all use some type of cake box. Let's see I have coconut almond macaroon cookies, chocolate chip cookies, cake batter fudge, cake batter cookies and rolo cookies. I think the macaroons use angel food cake.

Maggie: It can be hard to get roasts and meats that aren't in huge packages. I try to get the smallest I can, but you're right I should get just a bit bigger so I can make stew as Jack likes stew. Right now it is kind of icky sticky around here to have any kind of soups though. I have been using my convection oven, electric skillet, and my crockpot a lot more so I don't heat up the kitchen. The humidity is almost 90% around here lately.

Jean: You can have our rain anytime. I am sick of it. Did you find anything interesting or a bargain while shopping? No, you can't smoke in buildings here and especially federal buildings, but they go outside and smoke. You see them all standing around. I feel for the people who bag groceries mostly. They come to work and stand around. They work for tips only so they make no money if they aren't bagging and even then most people are extremely cheap and take out their own bags so they don't have to give someone a few bucks. We give them money depending on how many bags they have to unload. If I have a lot we give them more than if I have a shorter bunch of groceries. I have to include a picture of a nail polish. I was looking for something specific and found this. I wouldn't buy it even if I liked it for just the name alone. The name of the polish is clown puke! Jack said, "yep, looks like puke to me!"

Well gals time for breakfast. Today is blueberry eggos, sf blueberry syrup, fresh blueberries and bacon. Dinner is cold shrimp, corn on the cob and salad. Have a good day everyone. Faye

06-11-2014, 09:33 AM
Good Morning! The sun is peeking out through the clouds and it's supposed to be a nice day. The guys got up early so they could be the first to get to a fishing spot where they saw fisherman catching fish yesterday. We are on a chain of lakes fed by a river, and the water is still high. It's still "no wake" boating so takes awhile to get any where. Barney, the dog, goes fishing too. Connie likes to sleep later and I wake up at my usual time of 5:30. I can't lay in bed once I'm awake so have had my shower. We stayed here yesterday so think we will probably "go" this afternoon.

Maggie, I had to :) at you being excited over your new tub. It seems like every place we have rented is missing some tool or appliance that I routinely use. This kitchen is a nightmare and needs a good going through. There are lots of drawers and cupboards but people have put things away willy-billy. Measuring cups and spoons are a good example, none are together but scattered in several drawers. There is a hodgepodge of blender and mixer parts for more than one of each, two coffee makers, two toaster ovens, plus a toaster -- you get the idea. We found three wine corkscrews but no pizza cutter. :dizzy: The Panera Bread had a wide variety of food choices. I had a "half" -- bowl of potato soup and sandwich. Connie chose a chicken salad with fresh strawberries, blueberries, oranges, nuts, etc.

"Gma," I would like your recipes! :T (P.S., if these are the ones on FB, I just found them!) I try to bake something when I know we will be seeing the kids. My mom always used to bring cookies when they would come. Beth just reminisced about that not too long ago. I just saw one on FB where you mix an angel food cake mix with another kind, then fix one serving in the microwave. I'm anxious to try that one. A waitress where my friend and I have coffee told us they get paid $1.00 an hour and rely on tips. It's a small restaurant so I doubt she makes much. :( You'd think they could have come up with a better name for that nail polish!

I hear the shower so better get dressed and ready for the day! Hope you all enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!

06-11-2014, 07:58 PM

Not much going on today. We have been out and about and there are still just the 3 little girl buffalos but the 4th big female buffalo sure looks PG.

I heard today that the measurement for the rain we had off and on the last two days totaled to 5 inches. Other than the river being higher most of it has soaked in and made the fields a lovely green and folks lawns are no longer wheat colored but vibrant green. I love the rain and look forward to our next bout of it.

We are going to go out to eat after class tonight to I-Hop and I can make smart choices off their menu. I had half a turkey Panini for lunch and an apple and for snack later I ate a 1 point+ WW string cheese with jalapenos in it. Yummy. I don’t expect to lose big again come weigh day but should show a bit down. I like the WW calendars statement for today “Are you comfortable with your Comfort Zone? Can you stop eating when you’re satisfied?” I need some work in that area for when something tastes real good I am apt to finish it and should have left some behind.

JEAN It does excite me to find exactly what will work and I have bought several items from the folks who don't use electricity's catalog that will work great in the RV. You may want to take along a few of your favorite kitchen tools next time and keep them separate from those that go in to the drawers. That Panera Bread place sounds yummy1

DONNA FAYE Just the thought of your high humidity makes me sweat. :^: We can eat soup any time of the year and have made several dishes as soup the next day. We always like to crock pot a large roast to have some for another meal. I also like to make shredded beef burritos or tacos with the left over meat.

Back much later: We are having a thunder and light show and pounding of rain ~ YES let the rain come down. We were out to eat after mid week services and when we got home it was pouring cats and dogs. I got to the house with a soaked shirt and promptly changed it and am nice an cozy now. Wonder how much rain we will get out of this storm ~ be nice if we get another 5 inches. This will mean we won't get our new sidewalk poured tomorrow.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Good morning to you gals. It is nice and cool outside, but the humidity is 93% so it is still sticky. Supposed to get sunshine all day today, which will be nice. It has been so dreary lately with all the dark clouds and rain.

I have the clothes washed and in the dryer, the front entrance swept and mopped and when I get done here will put the stuff back on the floor and fix myself some breakfast. It is eggs and ham cubes and toast with peanut butter for me this morning. I try to eat a good breakfast so I don't want to snack before lunch.

Other than folding laundry and sweeping and mopping bathroom, laundry room and kitchen, my day is free. I hope to get the yarn for T's socks today so I can get started on them. She mailed it from England on the 3rd so it should be coming any time now.

Jean: I emailed you those recipes so you can just print them out for yourself. They are from some Redbook article so you may want to google and see if you can find the article if you want to see if you want anymore of them. They had everything from ice cream to shakes made with cake mix in the article. Hope you are having sunny days up there. I like Panera Bread but Jack doesn't so we don't go there. I could suggest it to Kelly when we go to lunch together, but she likes to take me to places I have never been and I like that too. This one place we go occasionally and not at all since we have been working WW hot and heavy is called Cafť Eclectic. They have stuffed French toast and it is stuffed with Nutella and fresh strawberries. :T I can eat Nutella straight from the jar.

Maggie: You can have our rain for sure. I am sick of gloomy skies. I am a sunshine kind of gal, though I can't go out and be in it much as I burn something awful. No matter what I do, I always get a sunburn on the cruise. I wear SPF50 and a big floppy hat, but it is so hot I can't wear long sleeves and pants and such. I usually get sunburned on my arms.

You gals have a good day. Faye PS: Just spent 2 hours trying to find a self striping sock yarn to make Jackson some "lego" colored socks for Christmas. What do you think???

06-12-2014, 03:33 PM
Good Afternoon! It's a cloudy, windy, and cold (imo) day. We finally turned the furnace on; it's supposed to get down in the low 40s tonight. Brrr! It's been a "hanging out" morning watching the dog nap. I think we may do some shop hopping this afternoon. The guys had no luck fishing this morning, so are trying again this afternoon.

Maggie, I do bring along my favorite sharp knife and veggie peeler. ;) Last year I bought a cake pan because the one here was so gross. We had rain last night, along with thunder and lightning.

"Gma," thanks for the recipes! Every once in awhile I get the urge to bake something. I have to provide cookie treats for a group in July. :D I can practice on Bob first. I like the yarn colors -- definitely Lego colors!

Connie is ready to go so need to go too! I don't want to get left behind! Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day!

06-13-2014, 02:07 AM

I have been discombobulated today because of a migraine head ache. I take pills so I donít get the pain but I still feel weird. What really bothers me about it is that it is hard to get to sleep at night when my head is like this.

I didnít do much at all today but hang around. We did go for a nice drive and saw the buffalo and there are still the three little female babies. Probably the fourth female adult wonít have one again this year.

Not much to talk about so this is a short one. Will bought me a surprise and it is clear iridescent nail polish with sparkles in it. My nails are having a party.

Tomorrow we get a new fridge with a side freezer. It will be the one we will take to Texas when we leave here. Iíll have time in the morning to get the one we are using cleaned out and they can take it back.

Have a great evening ~

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Good morning to you all. We are wet and muggy this morning and the temps aren't as cool today as they were yesterday. I just hope we are through with rain for awhile anyway.

I got Thomas's yarn yesterday so will probably do the gauge swatch and then start on those. I know I have his socks written out, but I can't find them so will start over with a new set of instructions. I do this so I can go back and just use the same size needles and cast on and such. I knit pretty close to gauge most of the time.

Today is lazy day. I put my boneless skinless thighs in the crockpot with ff chicken stock to cook. I will shred it later and make chicken and noodles for dinner tonight with a nice salad. I always eat my chicken and noodles in a bowl more like soup and Jack doesn't like the liquid so he uses my strainer dipper and puts them over mashed potatoes. Too many carbs for me to do that. I am getting him to eat veg every night though. He is having cucumbers and onions tonight with ff Italian dressing over them.

Jean: I just hope Jackson doesn't think it is to babyish. I found a cross stitch pattern of a little lego man and I am going to try and duplicate stitch it onto each sock leg. I have only done duplicate a couple times and never with fingering yarn, which is like string. Jack loves macaroons so I might make a batch and take them on vacation with us. I hate coconut so he can have them all.

Maggie: Hope you are back to feeling better. Kelly gets migraines and takes some med that starts with an "L" I think.

Everyone have a spectacular weekend. Faye

06-13-2014, 09:27 AM
Good Morning! The sun is shining brightly, no wind, and the furnace is running! Barney is perking along better, eating, and his plumbing is working so all is good. Yesterday we went to a really nice shop that we go to every year. They have a punch card and after you spend $200, you get a $20 gift certificate. Connie had $20 left on her card and they told her they no longer accept them. She explained we only get to come once a year and always make sure we go to that store. No, "I'm sorry, I can give you a discount, too bad,etc.". The clerk was rather abrupt I thought. Needless to say we won't be making that 50 mile trek next year! I did find some short wine glasses that I have been looking for. My card would have been full for next year. :( Not sure what is on the agenda for today.

Maggie, hope your headache is history by now. :crossed: Have fun with your new nail polish and refrigerator! :cp:

"Gma," Ian still likes to play with Legos so I think Jackson will think Lego socks are pretty cool. I am amazed at the intricate Lego sets, the really big expensive sets. Bob's mom made chicken and noodles a lot. It was a texture thing for me, and I picked the chicken out as best I could. Enjoy your lazy day!

Susan, hope all is well at your house! :twirly:

Enjoy and have a fantastic day!

Today is Friday the 13th and the full moon rises. What a day for those folks who are superstitious to ponder.

The oldest two little girl buffalos are a lot more independent than the newly born one for she sticks close to her mother or her mother sticks close to her. It is cute to see the two frolicking around with the older ones in a ring around them munching grass.

My head feels good but I still feel a bit goofy but that isn’t new I guess. I am just thankful that I don’t get the pain that used to go with the migraines since I found what works for me off the counter and not have to take a prescription. My doctor told me years ago that folks with migraines could find something that works without a prescription but some folks just think they just have to have one or don’t want to experiment with over the counter meds to find the one that works for them.

Those silly guys that are supposed to deliver the fridge today didn’t bring the proper tools to take the doors off now have to go fetch them and the fridge is standing at attention out front on the sidewalk. If they cooled it down as per our request it won’t stay cool long for there it sits out in the heat like that. Oh well we can go buy some bags of ice and cool it down quickly.

JEAN It is so nice to have a day without wind. We get very few of those here. Poor Barney, I felt so sorry for him. That may happen one day to Beanie for he eats anything and everything.

DONNA FAYE Thomas is going to love those sox - what nice colors in that stripe combination. You knit the nicest sox for those kids. :cp:

Good Morning! We are on the road heading home. It's pouring rain and looks like a rainy weekend at home and at the lake. Beth is there and Jason is coming today. We'll head up tomorrow for Father's Day. We will stop for breakfast in a half hour, then gas an hour or so later. The ride going home is never as much fun for some reason.

Maggie, I hope the "goofy" feeling is gone by now. What do you take for a migraine? Beth gets them once in awhile. I hope your fridge is installed in your house now, and running tip top! Barney was really nervous as we were moving around this morning. He was smiling when Frank picked him up to go to the car. :D With the rain it's a good day to head home.

It's raining hard! Hope you all enjoy a nice weekend!

Good afternoon to you all. We went out first thing this morning to Walmart and it was crazy nuts. We got the last handicap space, there were gobs of people in the store and of course rude, rude, rude. We stopped at Lenny's Sub Shop got a couple sandwiches and came home and had lunch. I had a terrible night last night and was dead tired so we got into the recliner(s) and took a short nap.

I have to talk to my dr next month about the stinging in my breast. It is on the side where I had the surgery and I surmise she did something to a nerve because it comes and goes. Unfortunately, yesterday it came and didn't go away. I rubbed the thing all day long to get the stinging to stop and it usually helps it go away, but not yesterday. On top of that the arthritis in my shoulder/arm acted up and nothing helped it either. I finally gave in and took one of Jack's heavy duty pain pills from when he cracked his rib. Slept a whole 3 hours and it woke me up so I gave up and just watched tv. I watch Law and Order reruns early on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Jean: Hope you all made it to your destination safe and sound. What a rotten thing to do abut the gift card. They probably aren't getting enough business to cover giving it away anymore.

Maggie: Hope your fridge problem has been solved.

Gotta run. Have a great afternoon. Faye

We have been out and about this day and visited the buffalo. All is well in that area. Nothing much happening around here this day and I donít have any energy to do a thing. I don't hurt ~ just feel like lazing about and going through a large stack of catalogs and tossing most of them. At least that way I will have accomplished something.

JEAN I have been meaning to ask you what kind of dog Barney is so now I am asking you. :cp: Hopefully you got home safely in all that rain.

DONNA FAYE So sorry you aren't feeling up to exact and hopefully your doc can locate the cause of what it is that is bothering you in your side.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Good morning to you all and Happy Father's Day to your hubbys.

We ate breakfast and spent about an hour looking at home videos of people who posted them for the inside of the balcony cabins. We have a cabin where the closet is next to the bed and we wanted to see if the cabins that have the closet next to the couch makes the closet more accessible. It is about the same as these closet doors slide back and forth instead of opening up as they did on the Freedom so either way works just as well.

Just a quiet day at home today. No plans of any kind.

Maggie: I searched online about the stinging/burning in the breast and come to find out it is common with women who have had any surgery to the breast. Mostly because the breast is loaded with nerve endings and they can get messed with when you have anyone in there cutting. So, not much can be done about it just live with it when it crops up.

Everyone have a nice day. faye

Good Morning! We got 2.75" of rain during the night. It's cloudy but the sun is supposed to come out this afternoon -- just as everyone is heading home from the lake. We are on the road again. Taking the corn salad, hamburgers, buns, and baked beans again, and I just fixed them last week.

"Gma," I think that MN shop has a monopoly on the area. It's a small town in between other small towns, and has MN labeled souvenirs, a bridal registry, lots of kitchen items, greeting cards, books, candles, greenery, etc. It really is a fun place to visit. I hope your stinging sensation and should pain are better today. I take it you are cruising with a different company this time. I hope you like the balcony cabin.

Maggie, did you find anything interesting in the catalogs? Hopefully your energy level will perk up soon. :D

We are in the pickup and it is hard to type. :hyper: Hope you all enjoy a nice day! Sun is peeking out and guess who forgot her sunglasses?!

Good morning everyone. It is going to be in the 90's all week this week so it is going to be steamy for sure.

I took my nails off as I want to get a new set, but don't know if I will wait an extra week or not to give my nails time to "relax" so to speak. I try to do that when I take them off. Besides, I had trouble with one of them and it tore my nail back so that one I am not sure I could even put acrylics on. We shall see what happens.

Weigh in and I am down 4.9 lbs this morning. I will surely take that. I was afraid I was only going to drop a miniscule amount again this week. I am finding it even harder with the diabetes to lose weight. The good thing with that is I am now staying in the 80's which is spectacular.

Tonight is tenderloin steak and b potato for Jack, but I am having salad with mine and no potato. We had leftover pork bbq that I made a week ago and froze the remainder of it. I didn't know how it would come out, but it was really good. I make my own sauce and use a pork tenderloin to make it lower in fat and such, but next time I am going to cut my pork tenderloin in half and only use half a one to make it and use the other half for something else.

I guess I will try and get upstairs and clean bathrooms again today. It is that time again. I don't know how hot it is going to be up there as we turn the ac unit off when Jack comes downstairs in the morning so it doesn't run all day with no one up there. I am sure it will be fine as long as I don't wait until afternoon to go up there and clean. :smug:

Jean: We are using the same cruising company, Royal Caribbean, but going on a different ship. The ship we are going on this year is the biggest ship of any cruising ship. It is only 5 years old and we are anxious to see how it goes and if we like the balcony cabins. It all depends on how my vertigo reacts to it. If I can't go out and sit out there, there is no reason to get one other than a few extra feet of space. I didn't have trouble with the vertigo when I took Bonine last year so I don't expect any trouble. I have a habit of taking all the sample shampoos, soaps, etc any hotel offers when we go and stay somewhere. Jack always takes his own bath wash and shampoo and I usually take my own shampoo because it is for color treated hair to keep it from fading. So, I have drawers full of stuff in the spare bedroom. We decided to try and cut out one bag this year, the one we put all the hygiene and medical type stuff in so Jack brought the drawers down one by one and we went through them getting out lotion, shampoo, a couple shower caps for me, mouthwash, etc. We are going to get a couple more sample sizes of toothpaste at CVS and my sample size of hairspray that I use and know they carry. We saw the best thing on one of the utube videos about cruising. This lady bought those hanging shoe bags with the pockets in them, hung them over the door and put all her hygiene and stuff in them so we figure with 24 pockets (I bought a 12 pr shoe one) that we will have plenty of space for the stuff. I took everything out of the boxes last year like otc allergy meds, immodium, bonine, etc and put them into Ziploc bags because the boxes got so beat up on the cruise. It saved a lot of space too so I just left them in the bags when we got home so they are all ready to go. I always take everything I can think of just in case. I am not about to pay cash money big time to go to the ship doctor for pepto bismal or something for a stomachache. I take first aid stuff, diahrrea stuff, constipation stuff, headache/arthritis, sleeping and on and on. I don't take a huge amount, but enough to get us through the cruise. When we are on land, we can always buy stuff in the states while traveling, but on the ship you can get stuck and believe me, I don't know about this ship, but the other one didn't carry a bunch of stuff. I also take Lysol spray, the gel no soap handwash stuff, etc to cut down on the possibility of norovirus that can cause problems on a ship when it crops up. I bought a great pair of sunglasses with big lenses that cover really well. I have another pair, but I like these because they cover so well. They seem to be darker too, which I like. I can wear the lighter ones when needed in the car, but the darker ones are great for the tropics.

Well girls I need to get out of here and get the day started. Hope you all have a great start to your week. Faye

Good morning, ladies! It's already 75 degrees and heading for 92 this day.

I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted. My life has been pretty boring. I wrote a nice long post last night and just as I was about to post it, the power went out.

The big announcement is I am officially retiring, although my boss wants me to continue working from home (I did say retire to him) as of August 1. The budget will have to be carefully monitored, but my needs are small and I have plenty of quilting supplies put away for when I retire. I still have a couple of years to pay on my house but then I'll be in really good shape.

I've been doing my usual quilting bees and last Saturday I went to tea with Glory. We've been teaching Nora, the lady who does the teas, to quilt. She is so excited. She's become a good friend. Glory has moved into the modern world and bought an IPAD so I am giving here lessons. I set her up with the local library for ebooks and audiobooks. She couldn't believe how easy it is. She likes to listen while she quilts, too.

Faye, our weather is in the 90s all week, too. Hopefully the humidity will stay down. We've had so much rain the last 2 weeks. You are so organized when you travel. I pack an hour before I go but I do have a list so I don't forget things. I use the shoe bags to store quilting notions on the back of the door to the closet in that room. I feel your arthritis pain. My right hand is at the point where it hurts most of the time now. My fingers go off to the right about 30 degrees. I use playdough to keep it flexible. Hand sewing is my joy, but it is becoming increasingly difficult. I'm trying to teach myself to use my good left hand more.

Jean, I'm glad you had a nice vatation. Now back to volunteer work!

Maggie, I hope your headache and goofy feeling and are gone and your fridge is in the house!

I'm off to yoga and water aerobics. Have a wonderful day.

Good Afternoon! One rain storm just passed through and more is on the way. Knock on wood, we haven't had any hail in our area but some have really been hammered. One small town had roof damage on every house and most of the windows broken, as well as vehicle windows. Church balanced ok, and so did the gift shop. Right now trying to decide whether to head for Ian's game which hasn't been called off . . . yet.

"Gma," :congrat: On the GREAT loss last week! :cp: Wow! When I was ready for a new set of nails, I cut mine down as short as I could get them. I really like having the "gunk" applied without the acrylic nail. My nails are still soft and icky underneath. I usually forget something that I intended to pack from the bathroom. We've made more than one trip to the drugstore on our trips! Hope you got your cleaning all done.

Susan, it's nice to see you today! :cheer: I'm sure your boss doesn't want you to retire. As long as you can afford food for you, cat food, ;) and pay your bills, you will be fine. It's scary though. I don't know when I would have time, but wish you could teach me to quilt too. It's nice of you to "teach" your friends -- you are a smart lady.

I need to change clothes in case Bob decides to head for the game "just in case" they play. Enjoy the rest of your day!

I am so totally disgusted with myself. I weighed today and am up 2 pounds which is only part of the disgust. Last week I was down 3 now up 2. I have totally shown an upward climb in weight ~ be it up and down on the way of gaining back some of what I worked so hard to lose. Will is doing the same so we have decided to quit eating out so much as we have been. Even if I counted the eating out points they seem to weigh more when eating out. Somehow the restaurant points weigh more than the points eating at home cost. What has been so frustrating is that I thought I was giving an honest answer to what I had consumed but the evidence is in the weighing in that it isnít so. I did my best when we at the majority of meals at home so that is what we are planning to do.

We were out an about today and saw the buffalo and the 3 little babies are sure growing. We stopped by and picked up some doggie treats and then to the market for good for us food items.

JEAN That is sad about those folks all getting hail damage in the small town with that hail storm. I am sure glad my long nails are mine and not glue on ones. Guess I am blessed to have inherited them from my mother.

SUSAN Sounds like you have a workable retirement plan ~ good for you. My head thing has retired! The new fridge is great. It has an automatic temperature gauge that sets it's own temp and keeps it where it should be.

DONNA FAYE :congrat: That's a whopping lot ot lose in a week. You go girl. It is so great that you now have your diabetes under control.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Good morning to you all. It is already warm in the house this morning so I imagine it is going to be hot again today. I am not going to complain after the cold weather we had this last year. It is mainly the humidity that drives you nuts because no matter whether you are skinny or fat you sweat! :lo:

Jack has 2 lbs to reach his vacation goal. He really looks terrific having lost a lot of belly. He even got into a pair of 36 jeans. He said they are snug in the waist, but not uncomfortable and he has a whole bunch of practically new underwear he can wear now because they are smaller and don't roll down. He does have to wear a belt with all his shorts pretty much though as most of them are 38's, but he said that is no problem.

Jack's sister, husband, and son will be driving through next Wednesday. We were going to take them to dinner, but the fact they are leaving Lubbock at 7:30 AM and driving straight through there is no way they will be here until late and I cannot eat dinner late. So, I told Jack to explain to her the situation and that we will just meet them at their hotel and visit with them. They will leave early the next morning as they are going to W VA to pick up some kind of band equipment then driving into VA Beach to see his brother, then hightailing it back to Lubbock as she has to go back to work. She works a one week on, one week off schedule at the hospital. She is a cardiac care nurse and he is a respiratory therapist. Kevin got out of the army and doesn't have a job and from what I understand isn't looking too hard so am wondering who is paying his bills. I imagine it is mom and dad. He has an expensive Lexus he just bought.

I am making hamburger gravy and mashed potatoes with veggies tonight for dinner. Lunch for me today is egg salad. I use lowfat Miracle Whip and Truvia and mustard instead of reg MW, sugar and mustard. I like a little sweetness to my egg salad and have always used sugar not relish, but the Truvia works so great in place of sugar. I like it better than any other sugar substitute and since it is plant life, it is natural not synthetic. I haven't tried it for baking yet, but am thinking of making some cookies with it just to see how it would do.

Maggie: One thing you always have to remember Maggie is no matter what the menu says, you don't always know what goes into restaurant food or how much. If you cook at home you do so you can be guaranteed the pts. We don't eat out much at all now either. If we do, we have something like a sub sandwich we can count pts and the place we go to weighs their meats and such and we get turkey or roast beef without all the gunk on it, come home and put our own lower fat cheese and condiments on them. They still have more pts that sticking a couple slices of lunchmeat on wheat bread or whatever, but you can be more exact I think where if they are making something back in a kitchen you have no clue if they are following their own nutrtition stuff or not. Unfortunately, eating out is a killer on pts no matter how you look at it unless you only eat salad all the time.

Jean: I saw there was a bad tornado come through Nebraska and wiped out half the town. We had a fire go through over the weekend in an apartment building down in Tunica, which is about 35 miles from here and wiped out several families. They smelled smoke and had enough time to walk out the door and the roof collapsed on the whole building. People were standing around in pjs and that is all they have left. I felt so sorry for one lady who has an autistic child and said they have nothing and no where to go. In these days so many people just cannot afford renters insurance for their stuff. Hope you got to see the game last night. Jack put on the world cup last night as USA was playing and they actually won in the last couple minutes.

Susan: Hopefully your saying your are going to fully retire will stick as your boss seems to keep talking you into working some at least. I hope that financially it will all work out for you. I know Jack and I have sat down over and over and figured finances to figure when it would be ok for him to retire. He can retire now as he has tenure with the city, but he would like to work until 20 years so he can get half of his current pay in his pension. It would be a no brainer if he would get the promotion, but at this rate they won't do the interviews until after he has retired. They are sure slow about it. The last thing Jack knew they were mailing out dates for interviews and that was probably 3-4 months ago so who knows? You desire to retire and be done with it all. It is just always sad we have to tighten our wallets when that happens.

You all have a great day. Faye

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and it's very humid. I finally turned the air on. Ian's game was a rain out last night and won't be made up. We are bummed as we only made it to one game; that was because of weather and too many late games this year. Play offs begin next week, and we will be going. His team didn't do very well so may have only one game. I went to get my nails done, then stopped at the card/gift shop and WM on the way home. There was a fire at the "no tell motel" last night. The police go there on a regular basis to arrest prostitutes and druggies. In driving by I don't think anyone will be staying there any time soon. We were very lucky last night, just wind and heavy rain -- no damage except a few twigs and leaves. I have a trickle in the basement but Bob's new trench along the garage helped keep the water off the patio. He was out in it last night, checking, and said he couldn't believe how much water comes down from our huge maple trees. Bob left early this morning to check on the cabin and boat. Again we were very lucky as there was lots of damage around the area but we were fine. I'm going microwave shopping later this afternoon. Supposedly the cupboard is being worked on when Bob stopped to check on it yesterday. I didn't realize how much we really use the microwave until we didn't have it.

Maggie, I find eating out to be a challenge when I'm trying to lose weight. I don't plan ahead very well and we tend to do too many DQ treats after games. You will find your focus and get back in control! :cheer: My mom had very hard nails but she didn't share with me. :(

"Gma," Jack has done so well in his weight loss effort! :cp: You too! ;) It's too bad your relatives have such a fast trip planned, so you can't spend more time together. Your supper menu sounds good. I think we will grill chicken, or I should say Bob will grill. I need to go to the grocery store and stock up on fruit and veggies. I can't imagine how awful it would be to lose everything. Beth said the sirens went off four times last night. The last time the TV had them pictured in red so they headed to the basement. They got some water in their basement but no damage otherwise. Jason had a river in the back yard and curb to curb water in front, but no damage. Their house is high so don't think they would get water.

I need to change laundry loads and check the water puddle. Hope you all are enjoying a terrific Tuesday!
