Happy June! I hope everyone is well. The nice weather is helping to reach my weight loss goals, simply because I'm outside and being active. The scale is moving down each week, slow and steady.

How is everyone else doing?

New to weight watchers switching from ideal protein. I know fruit is free but nothing is ever really free. Do you usually count your fruit as 1 point.

Hi all! I just started doing weight watchers about two weeks ago. I've done it before, but haven't really committed to it, but this time I really want to lose the weight I've gained in college. So far I've lost about 5 pounds, which is great for me in just a couple of weeks! I'm hoping to get to the point where I can actually SEE the difference soon.

coffeebean I don't count fruit as any points, but I try to limit my fruit intake to about 3 servings a day to make sure I'm not taking in a lot of excess calories there

I think I am going to show a gain when I weigh in Friday. I've had a good week in terms of how I'm eating and should theoretically lose about .6 of a pound. But, I was sick for a couple of weeks and didn't eat much and wasn't retaining many fluids so had a large weight loss last week that was really beyond what I actually lost. SO, this week I'm eating more normal so I've seen a pound gain even though I'm well within my points for the week. I expected this so I'm not too upset about it, but I would still prefer not to gain anything. As long as it isn't more than a pound I'm OK with it.

Last 4 weeks have been tough since due to a leg injury I have not been allowed to bear weight on my left leg. So I've been much more sedentary which I haven't liked. See the doctor tomorrow. Hope he says I can quit using walker.

Coffeebean - Fruit and veggies aren't "free". They are zero point foods. I don't count them in WW (I do count them when I count calories in MFP), but WW recommends 5 servings of fruits/veggies per day so I wouldn't ordinarily eat more than that.

:welcome3: to the WW thread CoffeeBean and GordonGirl16.

Today was an awesome day all around for me. First I had my WI and lost 2.5 lbs. Don't even know how that happened. lol. I think there might be something to rotating your points between high and low. but am not sure.

Later, I had a Dr. appointment for something that could have been very serious. Well, it wasn't serious at all, and I'm am good to go. So all that worrying for nothing. But, NSV I didn't use it as an excuse for stuffing myself with junk food.

Finally, tying this all in is the Beck Solution for the Day::)

Wednesday Sabotage: Life is too short so I’m just going to eat this even though I know I shouldn’t.

Response: Actually, life is too short to be spent overweight, unhappy, and unhealthy. If I want to feel great and really live my life the way I want to, then I need to do what I can to maintain a healthy weight.

Does someone want to give me a good kick in the butt to drive me back to my WW meetings? Gah! I keep telling myself, "I'm going back next week, I'm going back next week", but you know how that is...."next week" never actually gets here. *L*

I mean, yes, I have the whole thing set up where I can count my points on MFP along with my calories, and I can always weigh myself each week. But it's the meetings and the camaraderie that I need, I think. Knowing that someone else is going to be seeing that number on the scale is extra motivation for me, you know?

And the calorie counting thing is just a dismal disaster for me. I mean, really. It just didn't work for me. Ugh. But hey, it's not for everyone, right?

I'm hoping June will be a good month for me.

I know that you mean! Once I can afford to I am going to go back to meetings, I think it's the extra motivation I need to stay on track. I am good at my diet for a few weeks, then I'll slip for a week, and it seems like those few pounds I lost over the few weeks, all come back in that one slip of a week. Ugh!

TELL ME ABOUT IT. The last time I went back, I lost something like six pounds over three weeks....then I had a bad week and gained back four of them. And then I was like, "Okay, well, the **** with this; I can *gain* weight on my own!"

Part of the reason that I find it hard to go back now is that, the first time around, I had this really AWESOME leader who was just so motivating. And then she quit due to health reasons, and the new leader....well, she's nice, but she's not as motivating as the old leader. She says the same thing over and over and over. And she's very long-winded, which would be fine if she was saying something to motivate us, but she's not. I mean, she repeatedly mentions her own weight loss (35 pounds, 25 years ago!) and her husband, and the actual amount of helpful information she gives us is negligible. So I have a very hard time going to her meetings (she runs the morning meeting.)

I used to go to the evening meeting (which is run by a different, more engaging leader) but the thing is, I started out going to evening meetings the first time around and I caught myself, after a while, doing ridiculous things to try and make sure that I weighed as light as possible because I knew I'd have extra weight on due to it being in the evenings. I know that sounds dumb, but it's true. I need to convince myself, though, that it doesn't *matter* if I weigh heavy in the evenings, as long as I choose to go to the evening meetings on a consistent basis. Does that make any sense? *L*

Go back to the meetings. I say this as a regained lifetime member who didn't go back for years and ended up eventually at almost 40 pounds more than my original starting weight!

Go to the evening meeting. I got to lifetime way back when going to a meeting right after I got off work. Yes, I did do some stuff that some might thing was kind of ridiculous. I tried to wear clothes of similar weight each week. I also tried to eat mostly the same things each week. Same breakfast, same lunch. And, after lunch I didn't eat and I tried not to drink too many fluids (I would take a drink if thirsty but only enough to alleviate the thirst).

The thing is that the first weigh in at the evening time was a lot more than it would have been for a morning weigh in, but by doing the same things on that day each week I felt like the weight losses (or gains) each week were accurate.

Thanks for the response, Koshka. I appreciate it. :)

Yep, next Wednesday I am going back to my evening meetings. No more excuses. I need the meetings, obviously; and the money? Well, frankly, I've spent more money on more useless things! *L*

I'm just so tired of trying to "guess" what to do, you know? I know calorie counting works for SO many people...but for me it just didn't. I'm tired of trying to guess what number of calories to eat. I read the post yesterday about the Chrome/Firefox add-on for counting WW points on MFP, and I got all excited about it..but then I realized, no, doing both at the same time is not for me. I need to focus on either one or the other, and why not concentrate solely on WW since I *know* that it's worked for me in the past?

Makes total sense, I did the same thing. I went to a Wednesday 7 PM meeting, so I didn't want to eat dinner before I went, because then I'd weigh in heavier. So I'd wait till after, and be starving by the time I got home. (I get home from work at 4:30 and usually eat around 6:30)

When I mentioned that to the lady who was weighing me in, she wasn't very understanding about it, and said...

"it doesn't matter if you eat dinner or not before you come, if you weigh in at the same time every week, your weight loss will show up"

Which totally makes sense! But she said it all snarky and made me feel like a complete as* :(

I don't like the leader there either, so I think I am going to try a Saturday morning meeting, which is a little further to go, but I have Saturdays off, so why not :)

Serenity100

That WI lady is just plain wrong, the weight of your food before you digest it will affect your weight loss. How could it not? You don't want to get discouraged and give up when you follow the plan and then end up not losing it gets frustrating. Same goes for TOM or poo issues.:dizzy:

When I went for my Dr. appointment the nurse was almost concerned because I showed a ten pound weight loss since last month. I told her don't worry, I'm on a diet. :D Besides I didn't lose ten pounds. . .I recall that I needed to use the bathroom and I had heavy shoes on when they made me step on the scale the second I entered the exam room.

"it doesn't matter if you eat dinner or not before you come, if you weigh in at the same time every week, your weight loss will show up"

OH MY GOD NO.

That's.....not the case.

Or, I should say, it's not the case for me. If I eat before I weigh in, it's going to show on the scale. And I might be wrong (I'm not a doctor) but...to me, it makes sense that at least *some* of what you eat a certain time before your weigh-in is going to show up, unless you've had time to digest it completely. I think Snarky Weigh-In Woman was incorrect on that one.

When I used to go to Wednesday night meetings, I would arrange my meals so that I ate something approximately three hours before my weigh-in (so, around 3 PM.) My meeting was at 6:30 and ended at 7, so I still wasn't going an incredibly long time without eating. But sure as you're born, on the few occasions when I *did* eat closer to the time of my weigh-in, I would show a 2-3 pound gain that would "mysteriously" be gone the next morning....and then, the next week, I'd have, like, a five-pound loss (because the 2-3 pounds from what I'd eaten before my previous weigh-in wasn't actually a gain.)

It could be different for different people, though.

Aldergrove BC
06-06-2014, 02:34 PM
Yup, same for me. I'd be at least 2 lbs heavier after I eat a meal, which is gone the next morning. That's a good idea though, have a snack a few hours before, that way I am not starving, then have my dinner after, if I want to go to the evening meetings.

Since I don't really like the leader there tho, I am going to give the further away one a try, it's only 15 min drive. The one that's close if only a 2 min drive which is nice, but I'll see which group I like better then decide. Hopefully I can go back soon :)

I envy people who have multiple WW meetings to choose from! *L* While the town I live in isn't tiny (13,000 people) there are only two meetings to choose from. But it's the same group, just that there's one meeting at 9:30 Wednesday morning and another at 6:30 Wednesday night. Not much of a choice there! *L*

I'm actually looking forward to going back to my meetings, even though I'm going to have to pay for the next little while (I have about 20 pounds to re-lose.) I miss the women in my group! :)

Hi Snoofie, did you get back to your meeting yet?

Its helpful when you have a support network. When one has a weight issue, all other emotion charged issues affect weight loss. So even if the support is indirectly weight watchers, it is still helpful to weight loss.

Hope everyone is doing well. Last week, I was on the brink of two very bad news items. Today, less than one week later, all's well that ends well is what I can say. I went a little off on the plan dealing with it all, but nothing that can't easily be repaired since I an right back on track.

Went back to my meeting! The damage wasn't *quite* as bad as I expected, but I have 20 pounds to lose to get back to goal. I can totally do this!

Koshka
06-11-2014, 11:53 PM
That's great you went back Snoofie. Really 20 pounds is totally something that you can do! You are being so much smarter about this than I was at a similar time in my life.

On another note -- I weighed in last Friday and was up .8 (this was basically because I had been sick before and weighed in at a very low weight and as soon as I felt like eating again, I quickly went back up).

This week I've been really hungry and ate most of my weekly points although I've stayed on program.

I had been on non-weight bearing status on my left leg (trabecular bone injury) but am now able to bear some weight and transitioning to full weight bearing. I'm going to buy an exercise bike which my doctor has recommended due to my bad knee. Also, I plan to join the Y again so I can use the ellipticals. If I like the elliptical and it doesn't hurt my knee I plan to buy one in a few months. I'm just happy that in 9 more days I can quit using the walker entirely and can be full weight bearing.

Good week for me! I weighed in with a 2.2 pound loss (to my shock) and got a 5 pound star for my 40.6 pound total loss.

Last week I was getting back to eating after being sick and gained .8 pounds even though I had a good week eating. This week I ate more -- I ate 48 of my 49 weekly points -- but lost 2.2 pounds. Go figure. Usually after a big loss the next week's loss is minimal, so I figure that next Friday I won't lose much at all. But I'm happy with this week.

After the meeting I went and bought a recumbent exercise bike to use since I'm not supposed to do fitness walking for cardiovascular exercise any more. It will be delivered tomorrow so I'm really glad I'll be able to get back to some regular exercise. And, as of next Thursday I'll be completely done with using the walker so that is great also.

Hi! I think I'll chime in. I used to do WW Meetings and etools, I am going to rejoin this week. I hope that I find a leader who I click with because for me that was part of the key to my success but so is accountability. I plan on doing WW meetings and etools again, starting this week. Any advice on how to get over the initial fear of stepping on the scale and facing that ever so daunting number?

Take care

The only thing that has helped me with that is to (1) weigh at home first so I'm not surprised and (2) realize that I weigh what I weigh and not weighing in doesn't change that. That is, not weighing in is just a way of sticking my head in the sand. If I don't weigh in, but really weigh X I still weigh X whether I know it is or not.

Serenity100
06-14-2014, 05:58 PM
exactly. not that I should talk. lol but in the past I just didn't weigh myself for months, and months. Total denial, like, if you don't step on the scale, you don't really weigh that amount.

Now I use the scale as my friend. I weigh every freaking day because I know if I go off plan one iota it will show up on the scale. That is the kind of body I have.

Tomorrow I'm having lots of family over for a bbq. I am going to figure out what to eat before hand and stick with it. No need to eat everything. And my sister is bringing over that machine that you put in frozen fruits and it makes ice-cream. Forgot what they call it.

Hello,

My name is Lynn, I am a Lifetime WW member & I just re-joined. In 2006, I lost 40 lbs. Between 2006 and 2013 I kept it off. My sister died 1 year ago & I have gained 15 lbs in that year.

After trying MANY things, I decided to return to WW.

I am hoping that I will be able to get back to my goal weight. I look forward to getting to know each of you.

Hi Lynn, sorry about your sister. Keeping the weight off so many years will be very helpful. You know what to do, you just have to do it.

I turn to food as a coping mechanism also.

Happy Sunday. My scale gave me a summer gift. When I stepped on yesterday I was suddenly two pounds lighter. Same thing today so it is not a fluke. I can't even try to figure it out. lol The only advice is just stick to plan, and if you retain water for whatever reason it is frustrating, but it is not fat, and eventually it will go away.

Today we are having a BBQ for dinner. Strip steak; corn on the cob; tomato salad; and roasted sweet potatoes. The figuring out the points for the steak is annoying, they list dozens of steaks. ugh. but I'll cut off the fat and then weigh the meat and I should be fine. Strip steak is not very fatty.

Koshka
06-22-2014, 02:51 PM
Great result Snoofie. Good plan kidlets. That BBQ sounds great, Serenity

I didn't weigh in Friday since the kids had medical appointments that conflicted. Right now I'm now about .2 of a pound from my last weigh in.

I am finally totally off the walker and trying to get back into exercise which really does help my calorie burn. I've been using the exercise bike, went to the Y to use the elliptical and weight machines. Have physical therapy this week also.

Koshka, kudos to you for being so dedicated to working out. Were you the one going on the float trip with your family or am I thinking of someone else?

lovedancelive keep at it, tracking gets easier and easier as you do it. Do you have the WW app? I couldn't live without mine. I'm looking into alternatives, read much cheaper, lol, but I'm giving myself a full year on the real WW online.

Miracle, someone game me a slice of birthday cake, and I didn't even want to taste it!! I just gave it to one of my students as a reward. This is huge for me. In the past I would have wolfed it down, just because it was cake.:carrot:

Have a great week!

My subscription is a bit less than $5 a week, what other options are there for less? Cheaper is (almost) always good! Mine is only for 3 months, at which point I'll see where I am. I have the app and I scan everything I can. If I can't figure out the point count for something, I don't get it or I make it a point to calculate it. :D

No float trip for me (although that sounds wonderful).

I went to the physical therapist today and they gave me some weight bearing exercises and said I could do them there or do them at home so I'm going to do them at home. She also said it was fine for me to do lower body strength training exercises at the Y (I did go over the specific ones with her to get clarification as to which ones are OK). I'm just really happy that I can move and burn some more calories now.

Koshka, so happy for you. I know you were very frustrated.

I don't attend meetings, I only do online so it's $18.99 a month. I've seen people talking about different apps that will convert to points which costs $2.99 one time charge. I'll have to investigate further, I decided I'm sticking to real WW until Christmas, it will be one full year. I should have everything I need to do under my belt by then.

Going for a nice walk now, so glad the humidity is gone for now. See, I have 1001 different excuses why I don't have to exercise. lol I don't even do it now to lose weight, I do it to remain strong.

Serenity - One thing some online people do is when they get to their last 10 pounds or so they join as a meetings member so they can get to lifetime. Once you are lifetime, you get free etools if you weigh in at goal (or not more than 2 pounds above)

Hi there...

Tonight was my second WW meeting this time around, I skipped the scale because I ate some Chinese and a bit of birthday cake when celebrating with family. I'm becoming friendly with a few of the members, one of them walked with me for a few blocks and we laughed. :). He's taken but I enjoy his personality.

I tried to sign up for WW online tonight, there was a technical issue. I know it's expensive to do online and meetings but that's what worked best for me.

I'm happy because I'm about 21 lbs lighter from a few years back as of the weigh in last week, wow! I've still got a ways to go but I'm actually beginning to think of this as doable.

:)

Take care, good night.

Woo! I didn't do as badly as I thought this week. :) Only down 0.4 pounds, but hey, as long as it's down, it's all good. :)

I'm thinking about signing up for Monthly Pass soon. It would be cheaper than just doing the meetings and I'd get eTools, too, which always helped me. Once i get back to goal, I'll get eTools for free anyway, so it's just one more added motivation to get there!

Got (almost) bitten by a dog last night on my way back from my meeting. If I hadn't been wearing long pants, it would have been much worse than it was; as it is, the little dirtbag left a mark on my calf even through my pants. One of the things I don't like about walking outside is that the number of people who leave their dogs off leash in this town is unreal. :/

How did the weigh in go, lovedancelive?

I weighed in Friday at 165.8, down 1 pound (this was for 2 weeks). I was happy with it although a bit nervous that I am reaching the point where I was in 2011 when I had a 2 month long plateau. I really don't want one this time.

I came in at 141.8 but found that I weighed 140.8 a few hours later so first thing in the morning might not be my ideal time to check.

Today I weighed 137.8 so hopefully I stay in the 130s for next Friday. =)

Good job on losing a pound! I understand your fear of plateauing, 141-143 is always my worst point. So I'm even still scared that by Friday I'll be back to 140+ even if I eat perfectly and exercise. =/ I hope you don't get stuck, I know the feeling all too well.

If I go down like that during the course of the day it is usually, well, bathroom related.

I find that my weight fluctuates quite a bit during the week and I try not to let that drive me crazy when it is up a bit on weigh in day.

A loss is a loss Koshka and lovedancelive, take it and smile.:)

Going to a wedding reception this evening, I'm glad, but I hate to be around so much food, if you know what I mean. Lately I just take a bite or two of everything and have them take it away, and it works for weigh loss. I just have to remember to drink lots and lots of water so it flushes out all the extra sodium.

Have a great Sunday, and talk to you soon.

Hey everybody. My time at the wedding worked out great. I am at the point where I. don't. care. about. food. I can't even explain about how much food was at this wedding. Only if you have ever gone to a NY wedding or watched the GodFather movie could you understand.:dizzy: I just didn't eat it. I let them take it all away after one or two bites of filet mignon and salad. During the cocktail hour I had a few strawberries and pieces of pineapple and some fresh mozzarella cheese.

The bottom line is my wanting to lose the weight and keeping it off, is stronger than wanting to eat tasty food.:dancer: For me, I believe that is the secret to my success. That, and not having any tasty high cal food available in my house in case I get that craving.:hungry:

I have the WW app on my iPhone and it really helps me. I found out that one of those little bags of peanuts 1.35 oz is 6 points:dizzy:. Or, you can eat 14 mini pretzels for 2 points. I always thought peanuts was something good to eat. I guess not, and no wonder I had to go on a diet.

Hi there!

How are all of you? I'm interested in learning more about Monthly Pass. Currently I am going to meetings and doing the online version, there are no etools in my area, unfortunately. I tracked today, maybe I'll go to the WW meeting this Saturday.

Have a good night.

Amy

Hi Amy, I only do online so I can't help. What do you mean no etools in your area? I thought if you get the monthly pass you get WW online included in the price? And you can download the phone app too.

:bravo:Snoofie! It's great when our hard work pays off. Keeps the morale up.
I won't be around for two weeks. I don't plan on tracking points while I'm away, just trying to eat sensibly and walk a lot.

In the past, when I returned from vacation I couldn't get back on plan. I'm putting it out there now, "Im coming back and not quitting!" Send out a search party if Im not back in two weeks.:joker:
