Default tired of making excuses...this mom will do it ...

well I am new to this forum, glad I discovered it. I am a mom of twins who just turned 2 in march. From the pregnancy up until their 2 birthday, time has literally flown, but now I have decided to get the weight off once and for all.
I have been my heaviest at 256lb(yes after the twins were out )currently I am at 242 and hopefully wish to be 148-152 range.
I am an emotional eater, hazards of being a woman I guess but I want to change it so badly.
I want to lose the weight to be healthy, look good, gain confidence and most importantly be a good example for my kids and enjoy life with them.
I am scared if I continue to be this heavy for long my kids will emulate my habits and become fat too.
I am sorry if it all sounds like silly gibberish,t hanks for reading.

Welcome to 3FC!

I think this site is an excellent tool. With the encouragement and understanding of like-minded people, in 2011 and 2012 I dropped over 50 pounds! Then I stopped visiting the site, and they all found me again. (Because I, too, am an emotional eater and life got *really* crazy there for a while.)

Your reasons for wanting to lose weight are good ones. If you have a solid "why" it's much easier to continue down this tough path. Good luck to you, and I hope to see you posting around.

Welcome and good on you for making a decision to change your life.
It is good that you want to be a better role model for your children but i have heard and don't know if its true but if the mother was overweight, then the children will have that tendency. So you are going to have to work really hard with them and yourself for quite a while if its true. Maybe ask your doctor about that.

I used to be an emotional eater but now i have just about got on top of that. Only through years of working on myself and learning psychological tools like CBT, mindfulness and generally becoming more psychologically aware.

You can certainly become less reactive to your emotions but you need tools, not willpower. Self awareness and a willingness to use other strategies to manage your emotions.

Check out the book The Beck Solution to Weight loss or something like that. There's a forum here for it. IT basically uses CBT strategies. And if you've never had any CBT counselling, you may find it enlightening and of course helpful. There's also lots of books that people here mention time and again that deal with the topic. If you hang around you will come across them.

Mindfulness is a meditation technique that you can apply to all areas of your life. Its basically about greater self-awareness and has different style of thinking to combat problematic thoughts and physical sensations.

But you also need to be following some sensible diet ideas. One of the key things i do is to minimise the experience of hunger. So to do that i eat three meals a day, with fruit or low calorie but nutritious foods for snacks, eat mainly whole foods and limit processed foods severely, And my meals are spaced fairly close together like before 9am, 12noon and then between 5-7pm. I try not to stay up late at night but i was up i would definitely get hungry. and of course your calories shouldn't be too low because if that's the case you will definitely get hungry.

I also eat lots of fruit and vegies. 2 fruit, 5 serves of vegies when a serve is at least half a cup of raw veg.

In one book i'm reading now, she says its vital to take your waist measurement and scale measurement when you start so that if things go a bit pear shaped, you can look back and know that you are still in front of where you began and this can lift you out of the dumps.

The other key thing i do is quit sugar. Sugar is a problem for me. I consider myself something of an addict. So its so much easier for me to go without. Though i do have a few rare occasions when i can eat some. I have been basically doing this since early january and to date, no sign of lapsing.

Thanks Pattience for your input.I agree that being more self aware helps a lot to understand ourselves.
As my kids have crawled first and then taken baby steps towards walking without support,I too in a way will do the same. take baby steps towards the big goal of losing 90-92 lbs.
Thanks for the support and all the best to you for your goals.
see you soon.
