I'm not feeling all that great today (carb/caffeine withdrawal, I'm sure) and have already cheated with a handful of tortilla chips and a diet soda. What do you all do when you're tempted to eat OP? How do you re-direct yourself?
I have suffered from migraines for years and years and gradually got to where my first go-to was food, cuz, you know... what if I'm hungry? Even more gradually that morphed into "I'm not feeling too hot... what if I'm hungry?" My health problems have multiplied over the years and you can imagine what my weight has done with that kind of mentality, lol! Time to reprogram my brain!
My daughter's hot cheetos (a big downfall for me) were calling (screaming!) my name but I decided to make deviled eggs instead. Yay me this time.
I go to bed ...lol ...no , I just get my mind on something else, read a magazine, go for a walk ...have a handful of nuts ...and yes, you've already cheated with the tortilla chips
You can do this, it just takes some adjustment time...once you get into the swing of it things will be easier, temptations will be less hard on you.

I make a cup of tea. Celestial Seasonings has some great flavored, decaf, herbal teas. Chocolate raspberry, true blueberry, raspberry zinger and cinnamon apple are some of my favorites. I add a splash of heavy cream and a spinkle of cinnamon (depending on the flavor of tea). Delicious!
Drink water, herbal teas (like Jerseygirl I'm mad for the Celestial Seasonings fruity ones, although I drink them plain).
Mostly I try to distract myself
When I was working I remember I used to polish my fingernails when that urge hit - meaning I couldn't use my hands to eat for half and hour of so - that was clever of me (I no longer wear polish though)

LOL, that reminds me of the commercial where the girl was getting her nails done at the salon and just couldn't resist dipping into the potato chips! LOL
Thank you ladies for your suggestions, and encouragement! Carol Sue that commercial is hilarious! Doing my nails is a good idea... both for my nails and my waistline, lol! I've recently fallen in love with Lipton's blackberry/pomegranate green tea blend, so I'll try drinking more of that, too.
I am known to take one single potato chip, close the bag, walk away and nibble at it. Takes a little will power not to devour it but I know that if I deny myself completely, it will only lead to binging! Then find something, anything, to do. Distraction is amazingly effective! I love that commercial too, I can SOOO relate!
I have an off topic question for Michaloula :
You said you have had migraines for years, me too, has weight loss or low carb-ing effected it at all? I tend to go for crunchy food in the midst of one, the crunch somehow helps the head! I am currently dealing with nearly constant headaches with the occasional migraine mixed in. I have had headaches/migraines since a child and until a few months ago had been very manageable. I have tried chiropractic, massage therapy and I am in physical therapy now too. I am not thrilled with the idea of popping a bunch of pills to get rid of a symptom, I'd rather get rid of the cause. Any input would be helpful! Thanks!

I could have written this myself! ((((HUGS)))) It can be debilitating. I've done chiro, pt, botox (which helped the 1st time... then ins changed and the new one won't auth.), a bazillion meds, homeopathic, naturopathic, etc, etc, etc. Nothing seems to help.
I very definitely crave carbs when I have the headaches/migraines. Idk so much about the crunch factor though. Haven't noticed any kind of change on any kind of diet. I hope you are able to find relief.
I promise myself that I can have whatever I'm craving tomorrow. Even if that means I have to go out and buy that item tomorrow. I get out my spreadsheet and figure out how to plug it into the next day's food plan.
Like others, I'll make a cup of tea, go for a walk, or distract myself in some way. The Beck Diet Solution says strengthening your resistance muscle weakens your giving in muscle. So I remind myself that every time I resist temptation, I make it easier to stay strong the next time.
I totally forgot about brushing teeth - that's a great one, it often switches the chemistry in my mouth enough to not want food, and it's also good because nothing is going to taste very good for a while!
I, like Streudel, tell myself.. if I really want, Really Want it... I can have it tomorrow (Sometimes I forget this mantra - I need to post it somewhere).. Or just drink alot of water, tea, lemon water.... but the putting off to tomorrow and knowing that it WILL STILL Be available to have if I want.. really does the job for me!
