I'm planning to do Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred in May. Anyone wanna join me?

I read somewhere that Jillian actually recommends not doing the program every day but to alternate it with a cardio workout and to include rest days, so that is what I am going to attempt. (2 days of 30DS, 1 day of cardio, 1 rest day, 2 days of 30DS, 1 rest day)

I did it I did it I did it!!! Of course, I wanted to hurl a hand weight at the TV when Jillian said we were doing jumping jacks for like the 20th time. I survived, though, and it really wasn't too terrible. I'm gonna feel it in the morning. I'm sure of that.

I didn't feel as bad this morning as I thought I would. But - woa - did I ever feel the burn while doing the workout for Day 2! Totally doable, however...ow. Also, I hate jumping jacks. Hatehatehate.

Hmm, I'm tempted! Last time I did the 30DS I had hand weights, which helped. I'll keep ya posted :)

Thanks for joining in souvenirdarling and aliciaf1!

souvenirdarling - If you've done this before, it should be eazypeazy. I'm using 3 pound hand weights.

aliciaf1 - Wow, not even one rest day? You're a beast!

Funny thing this morning. I woke up, rolled out of bed, and was halfway across the room to turn off the alarm when I realized I was feeling all kinds of hurt. (Not horrible but certainly intense.) That'll wake you up right quickly.

Not certain what I'll do for cardio today. My thighs and abs are screaming for mercy.

My stats on D1:

Weight - 164.9
Pants size 8

Waist (at belly button): 36
Stomach (above belly button): 34
Belly (below belly button): 38.5

Chest (below bust): 33
Bust: 38
Thigh: 25 (widest part)
Calf: 16 (widest)

First day of shred, level 1. Needed some water during but otherwise good. 10 pushups each circuit.

And I am taking 2 days of rest from shred - but I at least walk/jog everyday with my son in stroller now, so i am hoping i can keep that up!

Wow, our stats are so similar aliciaf1! That should make it really interesting to compare how this impacts each of us.

Go you on completing Day 1! :broc:

For my cardio I did a Leslie Sansone 1-mile walk video. I wanted something low-key but that was too easy. Oh, well, at least I was moving, right?

Level 1 Day 2:

12 pushups each circuit. Not really sweating too much, gonna try to do more reps and harder on cardio!

:broc:

I think maybe because the cardio is not intense and prolonged, you won't sweat much? I guess it depends on the temp of the room where you're working out, also.

L1 : D3 is on my agenda for this afternoon. And I was finally starting to not be in agonizing pain. *le sigh*

It was fabulous.....in a horrible and annoying sorta way. ;) I also went for a 2-mile walk/stroll because the weather is perfect today. And I had a very active day at work. I shall sleep well tonight, methinks.

I'm picking up some weights this evening!

I want to join in and be accountable. I have used the 30 day shred in the past and it works. I find that the level 2 is easier for me than level 1.

Novus I'm in!!! I started the 30DS this month and today is my Level 2 Day 1. I never took down my measurements but I think it's a good idea.. the tape I have at home never went all the way around my waist so I have no idea about my stats.. I'll give it a shot tonight :)
So glad to have found this thread!!
let's do it :carrot:

Welcome to the Shred, bumblebee and nitrus!

Bumblebee, I've also heard others say that Level 2 is easier. I hope so!

Hope things are still going great for you souvenirdarling and aliciaf1!

I completed Days 5 and 6 over the weekend. Nothing much of interest to report...doable yet challenging. I've started muting the audio instead of listening to Jillian and that makes it much more enjoyable.

AND....I wore a pair of pants yesterday that didn't fit at all just a week or so ago. So I'm excited about taking my measurements when I finish Level 1, which will be at the end of this week. Yay! :broc:

Congratulations on getting in those pants! If you can handle level 1 than level 2 will be a breeze for you. I could not handle level l, and before I gave up, I decided to give level 2 a try and it was so much easier and I saw great results. And now I am starting all over, and plan on sticking with my diet and exercise until I reach my goal. And than use the tapes for maintenance.

You are going to do great on level 2, and continue losing those inches. That is one of the good things about the 30 day Shred,is that you can lose inches even when you do not see a loss on the scale.

I'm loving level 2!! Though it's TOM time so I am not really jumping or doing them strenuously.
I dunno what it is but I look forward to doing the 30DS everyday cause Jillian makes it look so simple.. All you need it your own will power to do it, that's it! Somehow, I don't get the same feeling while at the gym using all those big machines.. but actually getting down on my hands and feet n moving makes me feel like YES, I am doing something and this is going to count!

Anyone else get that feeling?

I have been retaining water, from getting dehydrated from sweating so much from exercising. I sweat a lot, as I get a good work out from 30 day Shred, and I have to remember to drink extra water, so that I do not retain water.

nitrus29

Level 2 is my favorite level. After I finish exercising with Jillian, I feel energize. She is very motivating, and I feel in control when I exercise at home. And I do not have to push myself, unless I want to push myself, because I know there is not anyone watching me to judge me.

Novus
That is why I cannot do level 1, there are too many jumping jacks! And my knees were in pain. Level 2 is a lot easier on the knees and I think level 2 is challenging but a lot easier.

Colleensuzanne

You will amaze yourself at how fast you adjust each day.

Candidcamster - welcome!! it's alright if you've never done any video before. Jillian is so motivating even though she says 'I want you to feel like you are going to die' LOL :D
you can start with little movements and let your body build the endurance and strength over time. you dont HAVE to kill yourself but it's only 20 mins and each circuit is split so well into 3 mins cardio, 2 mins strength and 1 min abs, you wont even realize your 20 mins are up!
Good luck, you can do it!! :)

 Welcome to the madness!

I'll be honest...you might find this workout quite challenging at your weight, though that depends on your fitness level. BUT don't let that stop you from trying! Do what you can.

One of the girls in the video does modifications of the moves, so you can try those. A lot of the stuff is basic exercise movements so you could possibly find even easier modifications online. Like, if you can't do regular push-ups or girlie push-ups, wall push-ups are another option.

When I did my measurements this morning, I was actually kinna disappointed. The changes seem so tiny. But then I pondered it and I realized...

1. Doh. It's only been 2 weeks. I don't think it's possible to lose like 10 inches from your waist in 2 weeks. ;)

2. The amount of change I saw in 2 weeks is what I normally experience in a month. That's pretty significant when you think about it!

3. The numbers may be small but I can actually feel the difference. You know how when you sit down you can kinna feel your fat poof out (ew!)? I feel that less than I used to. And I don't have quite the same need to arrange my clothing to disguise my lumpiness. Yep, the muscles are firming up. Yay!

In other news. Today is supposed to be cardio day. But I feel like my body is fighting off some sort of illness/bug/virus thingy. Not really sick but my body wants some extra TLC so as to not get sick. My immune system is at war so I'm laying low and taking a rest day.

The month is nearly over, but I'm joining in. I had previous success with Jillian Michaels' DVDs, so I'm going back. Summer is on its way and my asthma is triggered by heat and humidity, something that comes in spades here in VA, so I have to move exercise indoors.

Level 1 Day 1 really kicked my ***. I could barely get through it (I did, but I had to pause the DVD and catch my breath and gather the will and energy to keep going). I ended up waiting a week to start again.

L1D2 yesterday went much better. No DVD pausing and only needed a few seconds to catch my breath. I'm taking a break today because my muscles are screaming, but I'm going right back to it tomorrow. I'm going to start supplementing 30DS with another JM DVD, probably Yoga Meltdown.

Once I get through 30DS, I'm going to move onto Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. My endurance will have increased substantially by then to take on an hour-long workout.

Welcome Rashomon! Sounds like you're totally rockin' the Shred! :D No worries about joining late. I'll be doing this well into June because I'm mixing in rest days and cardio instead of doing 30DS every day.

And today I ventured into the land of Level 2. Um, yeah....love it! It's like a hundred times better than Level 1! Woot!

Level 2 is my favorite level. I found level 1 to be too hard, and level 3 was too easy, but level 2 is perfect for me. I get a great work out. I sometimes add in extra arm exercises, or some stretching to help me lose and tone.

Count me in also!!

NOVUS, when I started this DVD well over a year ago (my first and very successful round of losing weight) I absolutely hated jumping jacks. Guess what? I learned to absolutely love them! I think you will, too :)

It's kind of like Jillian's Body Revolution. I hated doing Suicides with a passion, but then I got so into them after my cardiovascular system got into better shape.

I started 30 Day Shred this past Sunday. I do have to take several 2 minute breaks throughout the DVD. But that will diminish once I get more weight off and I'm in better cardio shape. :flow1:

Welcome Jersey and Kysa!

How's everyone doing with the Shred?

I'm a total slacker with Level 2. I've been doing it but, honestly, it's a pretty half-hearted effort. I dunno what my issue is. I think part of it is that I want to do more cardio, specifically running. Summer makes me want to RUN :running: so I think I'm going to modify my weekly plan so there's less Shred and more running. And I think I'm going to redo Level 2.

JerseyPAGirl

Hi Novus!

I'm still on Level 1 and probably will be for at least another month or two. Unfortunately I find myself stopping the DVD frequently. Instead of a 20 minute workout, it's now a 35 minute workout. There are times where I do really push myself through certain parts of the video. I have to be careful because I have inflammatory colitis, which is pretty painful (although I think I have IBS - gotta go to a specialist to find out). And when I do cardio for some reason, I get some pain in the intestines. Not horrible pain, but it's incomfortable.

I finally attempted to do the 30 day Shred I mentioned over a month ago, and only made it to the warmup/stretches lol. However I will not be deterred this was a few days ago, I know this video will change my body for the better, so I am going to try again either tonight or tomorrow. The Jumping Jacks were killing me, for larger girls like me (around 300 lbs. give or take) any recs for good sport bras that will keep me from knocking myself out? lol
