Hello everyone... Hope May is treating you well!

05-02-2014, 04:24 PM
I was planning on logging today's weight, because I've been so careful and was planning on enjoying bagels with my students on their last day of class. So, I weight myself and - holy moly - my weight jumped up 2 lbs! Ugh. >:( I know they're not real, my ring was tight so it's water weight and constipation, but come on!

I did enjoy 2 bagels with my students today, so I will dip into my WP. I'm planning on hitting the gym, but I am also helping a fellow instructor catch up on grading this afternoon and I'm not sure how long it will take.

How is everyone else?

Thanks DBA for starting the new thread! Hope everything is going well by you.

Pupmom, :dizzy: I hate when that happens. Did you eat something salty or high carb the night before? It has taken me two weeks to get rid of the carbs of Easter weekend.:D

Tomorrow I have another Communion Party, but this time it is in their backyard. Much easier for me. I'm just going to eat before I go and not eat anything there. Nobody will even notice. :p

So today is Friday, you know what that means for me. My once a week cocktail. I'm going throw some frozen mangoes in the vita mixer with some almond milk and some ice. It's going to hopefully taste like a frozen cocktail that you get on cruises (i Hope lol) It will have my 1 3/4 oz vodka in it so whatever I won't care.

TGIF Enjoy!

Well, I was super annoyed at my weigh in today. I had a very good WW week. Friday a week ago was my birthday and was a higher point day. But, I finished the week with 17 Weekly Points left over and 15 Activity Points. According to Fitbit, I had a calorie deficit of about 4000 calories (I also record calories on MFP). Yesterday was not a high sodium day and nothing to really cause me to retain water. I even ate asparagus which my leader says helps you not to retain water.

Despite all of this I was up .2 pounds at my weigh in. I know it isn't "real" gain, but it annoyed me a lot. In October I went back to WW after about 6 weeks off. I was up then about a pound. Since then, I've lost at every weigh in until today. I missed a few weigh ins during that time but only a few. So, I was not happy at all about the gain. Sigh.

Saturday is my son's birthday so will be a higher point day but that should be the only one this week.

05-03-2014, 10:39 AM
I also notice that my body likes to play mind games with me.;) Example, I'll go out to dinner, and will have no weight gain the day after. I will then go back 100% op, the weight gain that I might have expected with the dinner shows up four days later.:dizzy:

I am determined to get a good weight loss number on my next WI and I know what I need to do to get it. Everyone's body reacts differently to different things. I peeked at the scale, and it looks good. I want to keep that number or lower by Wed. I'm not sabotaging myself one bit this week. You heard it here first. LOL

Thanks for the support all, it is very helpful!

05-03-2014, 11:25 AM
Sounds like lots of frustrating weigh ins all around, but we all get to move on to a new week!

The weather is supposed to be gorgeous in the StL this weekend. I've volunteered to help a friend (another English instructor) catch up on grading. I actually spent something like 7 hours helping last night, and am back at it at 10, but hoping I might get to spend the late afternoon working in the yard.

Any fun weekend plans out there?

Happy Sunday.
Pupmom, yesterday the Communion/Kentucky Derby party was fun. It was fun watching all the little ones in the bouncy house, it was fun visiting with far away relatives, it was fun taking a walk on the nearby boardwalk.:) It would have been more fun drinking all of the Mint Juleps other were having:D but I stuck to my guns! My nephew was a professional bartender so he knows how to make them real good. I asked for a teeny taste, so he poured it into a cordial glass for me with ice, and lots of mint. I counted it as 1/2 of one. 5 points and it was worth it. It was a once a year event, and we were all getting into the fun of it with betting, etc. The food was from a famous BBQ restaurant in his town, the only thing I ate was one chicken drumstick with no skin. Mind you there were ribs and shredded pork sliders too. Instead of even one bite of cake I had some fruit.

I am so happy I made a plan to stay 100% on daily points, and stuck to it! There will be other parties, but I proved to myself I could enjoy the celebrations even though I didn't indulge in the special foods.

Today is another great day. Daughter is visiting and we are having a BBQ, all points recorded, including corn on the cob, yummy, and 2 point hamburger buns. I hate eating a burger without a bun; don't you?:D

Enjoy your day!

05-04-2014, 07:21 PM
Serenity, sounds like a real blast! It makes me want to go to a big family bbq! I went to work out with friends, lunch, and then tons of yard work. More to come tomorrow, but I'm pretty happy doing it and being outside!

05-05-2014, 01:59 AM
Went out Saturday for my son's birthday. Went to Chili's for lunch and had chicken and shrimp fajitas. I was surprised to see that the big calorie part of that was the fajita base of veggies and oil (due to the oil of course) so I ate only part of that. Also, he wanted a cookie cake instead of a regular cake. I was shocked to see that a regular piece was 645 calories! So, I had a half size piece. Was glad that I didn't blow it.

Isn't it amazing how many calories are in restaurant portions? Yikes. Koshka you did well. Having the calories in front of your definitely helped you make wise choices.

Next hurdle, Mother's Day! My sister decided to have a BBQ instead of having takeout brought in. Im so glad. Much easier to control what I'm eating. I can make some WW's appetizers and desserts to bring along too.

I forgot to tell you guys that I hadn't seen some relatives since November and they really noticed that I lost "a lot of weight". Yay

Pupmom, your family is going to be blown away, over the moon when they see you. I'm not exactly sure what a "float vacation" entails but it seems like fun.:)

05-06-2014, 05:37 PM
I decided that I can't have any "fake" cookies, ice-cream, etc. because they cause me to crave sugar. I came home from work and decided to have a little snack. Tried these Kellogs Special K Pastry Crisps. They are supposed to taste like oreo cookies, haha, not really. The good news is that you get to eat 2 fairly large "cookies" for only 3 points. But, as soon as I ate them, instead of feeling satisfied, I'm feeling starving. So that's it for those things. . .I'll tell my hubby to eat them. . .he'll eat anything. lol

Tomorrows my WI, fingers crossed. Oh and btw, my Dr.'s scale was actually lower than my home scale. :joker:

05-06-2014, 10:53 PM
Serenity, thanks, I hope so! Float trips involve a river and a group of people either in canoes (which is super active,) rafts (which involve some paddling/guiding and what we'll be on) and/or intertubes (just floatin' along) so I'll be in a bathing suit and shorts. I'm pretty excited!

I bought a pineapple today and carved it up myself - I'd never done it before because I thought it would be hard (it was super easy!) and gorged myself on yummy fresh pineapple. Mmm. I think I'll have to get another!

05-07-2014, 06:04 PM
Pupmom, yum pineapple!

Lost 1.5 lbs this week. Yay. Now I'm back to what I was before Easter. Keeping hard core from now till 4th of July. I don't want to see any more setbacks that I cause to myself. lol

Happy Hump Day!

From Beck Diet solution: Think Thin Thursday Tip: All-or-nothing simply doesn’t work. When dieters are all-or-nothing about being on a diet, believing they are either totally perfect on their diet, or totally off of it, it makes it much more likely that one mistake will spiral into more. When dieters are all-or-nothing about food, believing that there are some foods they should cut out entirely when they’re dieting, it makes it much more likely that once they start eating a “bad” food, they won’t be able to stop, because they’ll have the thought, “I don’t know when I’ll allow myself to eat this food again, so I better eat as much of it as I can right now.”

I really am not thinking all or nothing because I consider this a lifestyle change, not a diet. We just eat the foods we enjoy but cook them in a more healthy fashion, and I keep an eye on portion control.

05-09-2014, 03:07 AM
Good loss Serenity. I like the Beck Diet solution also. Lots of good thoughts in it.

Well -- Thursday didn't make me happy. I got the results of my knee MRI (long story behind it). The main things from the orthopedic surgeon were:

1. What I thought might be a hamstring strain is actually a microfracture (a trabecular bone injury). The part that is no fun is that I've been told to use crutches or a walker for 4 week, non weight bearing except for balance. I had a walker already from when I broke my ankle several years ago. I hate, hate, hate using a walker. You basically have to hop and it is very stressful. My hands are already sore where I grip the walker and the leg that I am hopping on is under a lot of stress also. So this next 4 weeks will be totally unfun. I basically won't be going anywhere except when I have to (I do plan to go to WW Friday). And, this will lower my calorie burn since I can't do my normal exercise and I won't even be getting normal steps since I'll be avoiding doing much walking. I have been told that I can use my Rowing machine so long as the knee doesn't hurt so I'll get some calories from that.

2. I had major knee surgery (tibial transfer) about 17 years ago. I knew then I didn't have much cartilage. Well, basically I am now bone on bone with arthritis in that knee. Even worse, I've been told that even walking isn't an ideal exercise for me (I've been using the treadmill a lot and love walking). He suggested swimming (which I don't really want to do), cycling (my seat gets sore and I find it boring) or elliptical. I'm probably leaning to doing the elliptical but I am just really unhappy about having to give up walking.

05-09-2014, 07:22 PM
:hug:Koshka. Did you ask about water walking? Of course don't do anything that is going to aggravate the situation. I give you credit for thinking of different exercises. I would just get depressed and become a couch potato over the frustration of the setback.

I'm going to look up some appetizers in the WW's cookbooks to brink over my sister's house. I am determined not to sabotage myself at all this week. I want to see good results from now to July 4th when I go on vacation.

I joined a WW's group on fb, its sort of the antithesis of this group;) But I get some very motivating information there. My newest find, if you were an ice-cream junky like myself. Arctic Zero frozen treat an entire pint 3 points! not bad for when you get an ice-cream craving and want to eat more than 1/2 a cup.

hang in there!

05-10-2014, 03:27 AM
I can't do water walking now because I'm not supposed to bear any weight at all on my left leg. I can however use the rower so I am getting in some exercise. Once I can put weight on my leg (4 weeks) I am leaning to getting an elliptical.

I weighed in Friday and lost 1.2 pounds and got my 35 pound star. But, losing weight this week will be tough. My Fitbit says I burned only 1448 calories on Friday -- and I even left the house to go to the WW meeting. I didn't row though since I had exercised for a couple of days in a row and I find my knee does better if I take a day off after every couple of days of exercise. Saturday I plan to row and hope to get at least another 100 calories of calorie burn from it.

05-10-2014, 11:13 AM
Koshka, I'm so sorry to hear about your knee! My weight loss journey began with a back injury that had me in pain for well over a year - it still acts up if I don't work on my core and get regular walking in. It sounds like you're committed to not letting this stop you from achieving your goals - and that's wonderful!

After spending all day yesterday tiling the kitchen backsplash, I went completely off the wagon with my eating. Nothing that can't be fixed, but I'm a little disappointed in myself. I'm going to commit to behaving all week and meeting my ActiveLink goals. In fact, I got up and tried to do Jillian Michaels, but I didn't get enough sleep and don't have much of my inhaler left (refill should be ready soon) so I backed off pretty fast. Well, I have to grout the tile this morning and do some yard work, then it's off to the gym!

05-10-2014, 11:51 AM
Wow. I wish you gals' dedication to exercise would rub off on me. It hasn't gotten into my brain yet that exercise will make you feel better if you are exhausted, not worse.

The weekends for me are the trickiest, I think because they are so unstructured. I need to account for every hour and morsel. lol

Found a bacon lettuce tomato dip on WW's with poppy seed chips. If they turn out well will post the recipe.

Have a good one!

05-11-2014, 11:10 AM
Gorgeous weather here for Mothers Day Sunday. Determined to stick to my points and see the scale go down on Wed. Have a wonderful day!

05-12-2014, 12:54 PM
Had another day of poor choices. :( Forgiving myself and recommitting to my health and fitness today.

Had another day of poor choices. :( Forgiving myself and recommitting to my health and fitness today.

It's so easy to make poor choices. lol When the poor choices are so scrumptious. that's why I was determined to have a decent day yesterday by finding my own recipes and food to bring over to my sister's house.

My WW BLT Dip with Poppy Seed chips were a huge hit! Even the skinny people gobbled it up. The only one who didn't like it was my daughter who stated she doesn't like creamy dips? okaaaay. lol Even if you don't make the dip, try the chips. Awesome, and so easy to make. Also, don't worry if you don't have or can't find the arugula. Just use another type of lettuce instead. Arugula is an Italian lettuce, hubby happens to grow it in our small garden.

BLT Dip with Poppy Seed Chips

4 large flour tortilla(s)
1 large egg white(s), lightly beaten
2 tsp poppy seeds
4 slice(s) uncooked turkey bacon
3/4 cup(s) light sour cream
1/4 cup(s) reduced-calorie mayonnaise
3 Tbsp uncooked onion(s), sweet-variety, finely chopped
1 tsp apple cider vinegar, or distilled white vinegar
1/4 tsp table salt
1/4 tsp black pepper, freshly ground
3/4 cup(s) fresh tomato(es), fresh, diced
1/2 cup(s) arugula, thinly shredded
1 Tbsp fresh tomato(es), fresh, diced (for garnish)
1/8 cup(s) arugula, thinly shredded (for garnish)
To make chips, place oven rack in middle position. Preheat oven to 400ºF. Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil.

Brush one side of each tortilla with egg white and then sprinkle with poppy seeds. Using a pizza slicer or a knife, cut each tortilla into 10 wedges; place on prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Bake until slightly golden and crisp, about 8 to 10 minutes; remove chips to a wire rack to cool.

Meanwhile, to make dip, cook turkey bacon in a large nonstick skillet over medium-low heat, turning occasionally, until lightly browned and crisp, about 5 to 6 minutes. Drain bacon on paper towels and then tear or chop into small pieces; set aside.

In a medium bowl, stir together sour cream, mayonnaise, onion, vinegar, salt and pepper until blended. Reserve 1 tablespoon of bacon for garnish. Add remaining bacon, 3/4 cup tomato and 1/2 cup arugula to sour cream mixture; stir until combined. Transfer to a serving bowl; cover and refrigerate at least 15 minutes for flavors to blend.

Garnish dip with remaining bacon, tomato and arugula just before serving; serve with chips. Yields 5 chips and about 1/4 cup dip per serving.
If you'd like to make the dip more than a few hours in advance, leave out the tomatoes until ready to serve because they can make the dip watery.

The chips can be made several days ahead and stored in an air-tight container.

Sprinkle the chips with salt before baking, if desired.

Happy Hump Day. I thrilled to say my determination paid off, and by not going crazy on Mother's Day the scale reflected that with another 1.5 loss, making it a total of 29 lbs. :D

05-15-2014, 08:12 PM
Today I had a major NSV. We had a catered lunch at work today. Lots and lots of NY style Italian food which means lots of melted mozzarella cheese and breaded and fried cutlets. Plus there were several pizzas and garlic knots and bread. Yes, yummy. But instead, I chose the tossed salad and half a grilled chicken sandwich with roasted peppers. Threw the bread away.

Tomorrow's Friday, Yay!

05-16-2014, 11:08 AM
Serenity, congrats! That's amazing!

I think (knock on wood) I have my motivation (food-wise) back into check, now just trying not to get too irritated at all the bloat I'm sitting on. I've been hitting the gym pretty hard - and I have plans to attend a kickboxing class Tuesday and a yoga class Wednesday with friends. There is also a yoga class tomorrow that I might go to.

05-16-2014, 08:25 PM
PUPMOM I have to get my exercising up, but it's getting there. I'm thinking of getting one of those Fitbit things just for the novelty/motivation of it. But part of me thinks its a waste of money.

Had a good day eating wise. I find when I'm busy, I have no time to think about eating. Also we had a class trip and I knew enough to bring a sandwich from home. So go news even after my frozen yogurt pop as a treat, I still have 7 pts leftover. that means 3 oz of vodka for 2 Friday cocktails.:woohoo:

Have a good one!

05-18-2014, 03:30 PM
Happy Sunday. The weather has been delightful this weekend. Got a lot done.

Going for my walk now, then to the store to pick up some ingredients for some recipes I'm making for the week. I found a new recipe from the WW FB page, Fat Flushing Soup, basically the veggie soup with some yams and black beans. 2 pp per cup, or on Simply Filling ALL power foods. Will post receipe later.

I'm also making one of my spinach quiches with real crust.:)

I tried the WW frozen yogurt pops, and need to look at the ingredients list. I think it has too much sweetener in it because it only causes me to crave more, not satisfy me. Only 2 pp each so even if I eat 2 it is 4 pp.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

Lost 1.2 pounds at my weigh in which was good. But, it is getting to be really difficult since I am not supposed to bear weight on my left leg. Sitting around all the time isn't fun. I was able to use my rower if my knee didn't hurt...but now it has started hurting some so I'm not even using the rower right now. It has just been a struggle.

05-19-2014, 12:27 PM
I'm holding on to a lot (5lbs) of water weight from last weekend still. My body sure acts like it is fat, making me lose it slowly in the same way. I've also really re-committed to working out and to meeting my ActiveLink goals, and I think that's stalling my efforts too - which is very frustrating, to say the least.

Koshka, I remember being almost totally bedridden for the first month of my back injury and it was awful. But I was sedentary then, and very large, so I can't imagine being active and having the run swept out from under you. :(

Hola All, I'm back with a vengence!! Its been a while since I've been on TFC. Have not gained, but have not lost, boooo!! Today is my restart towards goal day. Wish me luck. Reaching out to you all, reading your posts, and not feeling alone :) x

It must be soooo frustrating to not be able to move like you want to. I hope you heal up quick. Don't give up, you have come so far. You know I went to a workshop today, and they used the GPS analogy. It can be used here too.:) You are heading for your destination, and you have a little roadblock. The GPS would never say, stop give up, no it was say "recalculating, recalculating. . ." So somehow you will figure something out, hang in there.

05-19-2014, 07:44 PM
I made another self discovery. . .I still use food when I am stressed out. Not as much as I used to. . . but I do. Yesterday I ate in the evening even though I had no points left. I was not hungry. I just started picking food. Some pretzels. . .then a piece of cheese. . .then a frozen yogurt pop. It all added up to 6 points, but still. A "normal" person won't gain, but I'm not normal :dizzy:

I had to do something that was making me stressed out, and that was driving me to eat. It was like an alien took over my body. It all worked out fine, but the scale might not be moving this week, and I have nobody to blame but myself.

05-19-2014, 11:00 PM
I noticed that, too Serenity. I still do that some myself. Not as much as before, but I do sometimes.

I woke up with a fever and sore throat today so didn't get to go to physical therapy. And my activity was virtually nothing so I'm going to end up burning under 1400 calories. I've done OK on eating though so it's OK.

05-21-2014, 07:01 AM
:dancer:WI lost 1 more lb; making a total of 30 lbs since I began. I guess only using 6 weeklies but having more activity points kept it all in check.

05-23-2014, 07:19 PM
How's everyone doing? I have no special plans for the weekend that includes extra special food and I'm glad.:)

Today is my TGIF Day! 7 points saved:drinkup: 3 oz of vodka to use in some diet orange soda with lots of crushed ice. Reminds me of summer.

Hopefully will get in lots of walking in the nearby state park done this weekend. My favorite thing to do.

05-28-2014, 02:48 PM
Memorial Day weekend in the US- 3 days off work, and lots of invitations from friends to attend BBQs, brunches, dinners... all focused on drinking, of course. I weigh in Saturday and then basically use all my weekly points that night, or even day drinking as it happened this past weekend. Argghh. Too much, "I haven't seen you forever, let's meet up for a drink!"

I'm racking up activity points in hopes of counteracting the weekend. Fingers crossed for Saturday.

05-28-2014, 05:20 PM
mietuk, great attitude! I was able to stay on point over the weekend and actually get some extra exercise in! So this weigh in I actually lost 2.5 lbs which is huge or me. LOL

But, tonight I am going out with the girls, and drinking is definitely on the menu, maybe even two. I really need a drink with the week I'm having. I will try to be as low carb as possible but am definitely going to use weeklies tonight. Hopefully whatever I gain from tonight, I will get off by next WI.

Stay strong peeps.:carrot:

05-31-2014, 01:17 AM
I weighed in today and was at 168.2 losing 3 pounds over 2 weeks. I've been sick so I think some of that is water weight loss and will come back when I'm eating more. Still, I'm glad to be in the 160s.

Hello, All! May I please join you?

I'm new to the site but excited to be here. I have my weigh in tomorrow morning. I am finishing my first month on WW and am down just over 7 pounds now. I did great the first two weeks but then went on vacation (uh oh) and only had a .4 loss last week. But the way I see it, I was on vacation and the scale is still moving in the right direction. LOL

I hope you have a lovely weekend and don't mind my joining!

Take care!

05-31-2014, 04:00 PM
Hi! .4 on a vacation week is great.

05-31-2014, 05:00 PM
:welcome:LovieLee! The more the merrier! Today is the last day of May, so join us on the June thread too!

Koshka, I hope you are well soon. I can never figure out how the weight comes off.

I'm doing well eating wise. Personal life could be a tad better but praying it all works out.
