What are your weight loss goals for the Merry Month of May? The monthly weight loss challenge is a great place to track your progress in May and, then, follow through with each monthly thread for the rest of the year.

State your goal for May and join a supportive and encouraging group to help you meet it. We will compile our goals into a list. As each goal is met during the month, it gets turned RED in celebration.

I need some extra focus right now (going through a very stressful period in my life), so I'm in. Let's see, there are 31 days in May, I eat 3 meals per day, so 93 total meals.

My goal for May is for 90 meals [or more] to be POP (perfectly on plan) and I will snap a pic of everything that goes into my mouth for the month of May and post it in my blog.

That should keep me on the straight-and-narrow.

I'm in! I didn't participate in April because I haven't been feeling very focused and my weight reflects that. I think I've lost 2 pounds in the last two months. So in May I want to focus on FOCUS.

My goal is to check in and document my weight on every weekday in May. I think the extra attention and accountability could just make the scale move down.

Unofficially, I'm going to set a FitBit step goal, too, and try to get a 30-day streak going.

Hey Everyone, So a little unusual but I want to mostly maintain for the month of May. I found out last week that I'm pregnant!!! And I would like to keep an eye on eating healthy and being accountable. I have been losing weight for almost a year now and I don't want to go bat crazy because I currently can't eat at a deficit. I've read that you really only need to gain between 2 - 4 lbs. in the first trimester.

I hit 82.5kg this morn, so very glad. 1.5kg til I am 'normal' weight wise. I am hoping I can do that in the next 10 days or so. Maybe 79kg by month's end.

I lost 5 pds on first week of april the month .....now I hope 5 more until May--
I have gone down from 44G for a bra to a 42 D ,,,so I am happy.
Also I joined Tops weight loss group which helps a lot.

jblanken, in this thread we just track our weight. Some of us do calorie counting, some do keto, some Weight Watchers, etc. There are other subforums on this site with support each of those if you look around!

OK, goals... Hmmmm... lost just under 9 pounds last month on the first month back on track. I'm aiming for 7 this month. Aiming for doable, but not unreachable or easy.

05/02: 234.0 (+1.0) Ovulation weight gain
05/03: 234.4 (+1.4) Ovulation weight gain
05/04: 235.1 (+2.1) Ovulation weight gain
05/05: 233.9 (+0.9) Starting to come down from Ovulation weight gain
05/06: 233.1 (+0.1) Can't wait to stop putting a PLUS in front of my totals!
05/07: 232.1 (-0.9) YAY!!!! First loss of this month!
05/08: 230.0 (-3.0) FINALLY dropping!
05/09: 228.9 (-4.1) Not sure how much "whoosh" is left for this post-ovulation thing.
05/10: 228.4 (-4.6) Let's see if I can lose 2.4 more pounds in 3 weeks. My body will stall out soon.
05/11: 227.5 (-5.5) totally shocked by this
05/12: 228.9 (-4.1). This is how I know I'm carb sensitive 1.4 pound gain from a slice of pie and a scoop of ice cream for Mother's Day.
05/13: 228.0 (-5.0) Lost .9 of that 1.4 pound carb weight gain.
05/14: 227.1 (-5.9) lost the rest of the water weight and added .4 of new loss
05/15: 226.4 (-6.6) woohoo only .4 to go for the month to reach goal!
05/16: 226.0 (-7.0) I made my goal!!!!!! Yay!!!! Phew... as I know the monthly stall-out should be here in the next day or two! (starting with my period).
05/17: 225.6 (-7.4) bonus ounces!
05/18: 225.9 (-7.1) monthly visitor should be here any minute (I think... darn perimenopause!)
05/19: 225.4 (-7.6) Period started. Yay for regularity.
05/20: 225.5 (-7.5) SOOOOO happy that I'm not getting a lot of water weight gain with AF.
05/21: 224.1 (-8.9) Eek! Wow gardening is a great way to drop weight!
05/22: 224.5 (-8.5) I knew that huge drop had to be a fluke, but glad it didn't go up much!
05/23: 223.7 (-9.3) Unbelievable really. I've never lost this much in a month EVER before.
05/24: 223.6 (-9.4) So expected it to bounce up this morning, as this can't be real?
05/25: 223.7 (-9.3) Yep... Monthly stall out is beginning.
05/26: 223.3 (-9.7) close to 10 lbs, but it will start to climb as I near ovulation.
05/27: 224.0 (-9.0) and as predicted, climbing as I near ovulation - day 9
05/28: 222.4 (-10.6) OMGosh! I did it! NEVER have I lost 10 pounds in a month!
05/29: 222.1 (-10.9) guess ovulation is delayed this month with these losses!
05/30: 221.3 (-11.7). #%*€???? What???

Congratulations, Turtle11! All your progress in the last year has given you the perfect tools for a healthy pregnancy.

jblanken: we're all over the map on food plans in this thread. Most people set a goal for a number of pounds to lose in a month, although even that is flexible.

I struggled in April. I tried a new plan to see if that would help and it kind of did. But it was higher protein than I was used to, which meant I kept going for more calories to meet the protein requirement. I felt like I was getting no results on the scale while putting an awful lot of effort in. So I gave up. Sigh. But I’m not going to let that plan defeat me. I can do this. But I’m not going to weigh for a while so I don’t get discouraged.

My goal for May: log my food every day.

Okay, I didn't lose and actually gained almost 2 pounds in April...but I am resolved to continue on. I would like to lose 5 pounds in May. We leave for Disney World on May 30. I know it is going to be very difficult to eat healthy there (The food is sooo yummy at the restaurants we have planned), and I want to give myself a little buffer before I go. I have never been there and not gained weight.

I think I might be gearing up to ovulate. That is hit or miss now that I'm 44, but it's the only thing I can think of with the scale creeping up the last two days. Though, I might be holding fluids too from my long walk yesterday. My butt and shins are a bit sore this morning.

'mornin. Just got back from my walk, 1.8 slow miles in 40 minutes. I am telling myself this - I WILL NOT GET DISCOURAGED BY MY SLOW PACE.

We're a week into May so I'm a little late but I think my goal would be to reach my 2nd mini goal of 10% body weight loss (189). I am very close to that now but I'm struggling quite a bit with my food and have a lot of "celebrations" this month (anniversary, mother's day, birthday and a week's vacation) so it's not entirely out of the question that it would be a challenge to actually hit that number this month with all the fluctuation I'm likely to experience. If I do hit it and am doing really well for some reason I will edit my goal to a more realistic expectation.

Hello girls... haven't been on for a bit.. I lost my mom Monday night :(
Exhausted, not eating, not drinking, I'm sure it's wreakin havoc on my weight. I still will continue to check in here... need to keep my mind busy. Maybe I will weigh in tomorrow..

Tinajayne, I'm so very sorry about the loss of your mom! I've been there and know that particular pain. Lots of folks will try to help by telling you what you should be doing, and while it comes from a good place, do what you need to do to get through this time. Most important is to find a way to take good care of yourself the best way possible, and lean on people when and if you need to. Your mind and emotions are probably all over the place and that's to be expected. Try not to overburden yourself with the weight stuff. We're here if you need us. Big :hug:!

Checking in...Glad to see so many determined people! I've been back at counting consistently the past week, and took off a little of last week's weight. I have a dilemma....Disney World in 3 weeks, and currently have clothes that fit. I can't afford to go and buy clothes for 9 days at Disney. I am going to try and wash and dry some of the shorts in the dryer because they are a tad loose. When I get home, I'll get back at it HARD and see if I can't drop another short size. For right now it's just healthy eating and being accountable.

BigChiefHoHo - So glad your husband is coming home. Thank God for our service men and women, and their families!!!:angel:

boatingmommy, I'm in the same boat with the clothes thing. I sorted out my closet yesterday and I've got a ton of clothes are are huge and sloppy-looking, and a pile of stuff that is just a little too small that looks atrocious. Almost nothing that actually FITS right now. So it's off to the thrift stores today to see if I can find some cheap in-between clothes to get me through the next month or two until my small stuff fits.

I am tired of hiding from my food addiction and getting fat!
I am cutting back on food and trying to exercise more but i am finding it difficult. I have been to see a health specialist and she said that it is important to have accountability and putting my eating out there publicly makes me accountable for my actions.

I am trying for a baby and need to lose weight for that reason but also for myself as i have been upset with my weight for a long time. :(

Hope there is someone out there who feels the same way even if it is for a different reason.

:wave: boatingmommy good to see you! Good luck with the clothes, are the shorts belt-able? Just so they don't fly off or slide down at an inopportune moment :lol: it breaks my heart to get rid of some of my too big clothes, especially some that I went by too quickly, like this one brown skirt in particular, still can't donate it, even though it's hanging a little low on my hips.

I bought a couple of skorts they're working out ok, comfortable for me and casual/dressy. I also bought separate top and bottom bathing suit last year which is working out, the bottom is black w/little skirt, this year I just need a new top part, last year's is a little big in the bust, boohoo (it looks like a one piece when I'm wearing it, not a bikini. I think as I get older I'd go for those old fashioned suits with long skirt... :D

The book that first got me to stop with the secret eating was The End of Overeating by David Kessler -- it helped me identify which foods and behaviors were triggering my addictive tendencies and to eliminate them using some righteous indignation at the food industry.

05/12: 228.9 (-4.1). This is how I know I'm carb sensitive. 1.4 pound gain from a slice of pie and a scoop of ice cream for Mother's Day. Calories for the day were around 1800, but it was a carb heavy day. My body just doesn't like (or likes too much) carb heavy foods.

I know... I wish it would stay that way, but I tend to have these cycles around my menstrual cycle that goes like this.

Days 1-8 - hold steady - or up and down a little.
Days 9-14 - slow and steady gain, with the last day being a big spike up for ovulation.
Days 15-16 - unpredictable - sometimes it hold steady, sometimes it starts to fall.

Days 17-24 - WHOOSH, first losing the gains for ovulation (2-4 pounds of water weight) and then all the weight I will lose for the month that will show up on the scale.

Days 25-27 - steady

Day 28 -perhaps a slight gain for my period.

Now... this was my pattern for years and years and years. THEN... I started dealing with perimenopause, so it happens some months and not other months. This unpredictability is not fun as I question more why I have gains or I'm not dropping!

I "think" I'm around day 24 now, but I don't track as well as I used to.

YAY!!! I made goal!!! I'm down 7 pounds for May! The "whoosh" for me has at most 2 more days and will end when my period arrives, and then the remainder of the month will most likely be a stall out or even a slight gain as I gear up for next month's ovulation at the end of the month, but if I got to this low, it means I EARNED IT!

Yay!!!!

So I think I'm going to bow out of this challenge. I jumped up about 3-4 lbs over the last week. The boobs have grown two cup sizes, constipated (sorry tmi!!) and I'm completely bloated :) We got to see and hear the baby's heartbeat last week, so I've decided I'm not going to worry about it. I'm going to continue to eat mostly healthy (I have given in to some cravings!!!) and continue my reduced workouts.

I'll see some of you in the May exercise challenge, I'm going to keep doing that one.
