On Sunday the 20th of April, Challenge 3 will begin! Do you want to look great for the summer? I know I do! Whether I will be able to be in a bikini or just feel comfortable in a one piece, I’m ready for this! Maybe you even have an event over the next few weeks which you want to drop a couple of pounds for, come in and join us! :carrot:

Weigh in days for Challenge 3 will be on Saturdays. This is to coincide with the start of Summer (i.e June 21st) being a Saturday and when Challenge 3 ends. However, I know that people have their own weigh in days so you can weigh in on or before the Saturday each week.

Challenge 3 is now open for editing in the spreadsheet! (Please make sure you are viewing the Challenge 3 worksheet on the spreadsheet!) Please fill in Column’s A,B & C to start with. I will update D after a couple of days. Then each week enter under the correct date. I will update Column N each week, so you don’t have to do anything with that one either.

Note on the spreadsheet:
As this is a yearly challenge, the spreadsheet will be used for the entire year. This means that there won't only be one worksheet in the spreadsheet. If you click into the spreadsheet, down below there are different worksheets. They read Challenge 1 - Completed!, Challenge 2 - Completed!, Challenge 3 - Current Challenge. When you are signing up for this challenge, make sure you add your name to the Challenge 3 worksheet. The spreadsheet will automatically open up on the Challenge 1 worksheet. ;)

Woohoooo! Going for 17 pounds this time. That's going to be a little harder, but if I were to lose this amount I would be at my original low weight of 180. Haven't seen that number in a long time! I'm hoping that will give me the motivation to kick this challenge in the butt. :D

We are heading towards Winter in the Southern Hemisphere but would like the challenge.
I hope by then I have at least maintained a healthy weight. 79kg would be ideal goal.(4.5kg loss)

I'm in! I've been good with exercise but having a lot of trouble maintaining my calorie deficit. It's just down to a lack of self discipline I think, so I'm hoping this will motivate me!

I'm leaving for a 2 week trip to Scotland and Iceland on the 21st, so this should be perfect timing!

I decided to weigh in a day early to make Saturday weigh ins consistent. I was quite pleased that for the first time in ages I've actually dropped a bit of weight! It might be related to a recent 2-day break from exercise, but I'll take it.

Count me in for this challenge! A few years ago I went from 190 to 145 and got in the best shape of my life, even completed several triathlons. After a bad knee injury I've gained all the weight back and I've been struggling to get my fitness back.

Ok, I haven't lost a pound since November ... because I've been focusing on my running. Now though, I have to lose weight to make the exercise easier.

Had to weigh in a day early because I'll be camping(!) this weekend. Unfortunately no loss. I'm up 0.8, which I'm thinking may be due to exercise. Last week when I weighed in I had 2 rest days right before that and a 2 pound associated woosh.

I'm doing well with staying active but I really need to try harder with my deficit.

Down 0.4 this week. I know it's better than a gain, but I really did well with eating (measuring, not taking bites from the kids' meals, not going over calories) this week, and I started my walking routine again (3 miles every morning). I suppose it could be the walking. I hesitate to call it exercise, though I usually walk briskly and finish in under an hour.

I am debating adding calories, maybe my daily calories are too low (1320 plus I eat back additional activity calories earned). It seems so counter-intuitive though. I may stay where I'm at for one more week then think about it again next week.

I have been in the 170s for months now. I'm seriously getting frustrated!!!

I just got back from a week at the beach where I ate and drank everything in sight. Sees Easter candy was also problematic. I can't even face the scale. My last weigh in was 153 but I'm sure I'm way up. Totally recommitted now for challenge 3. My daughter's graduating in June and my mom and I are taking her to Europe for three weeks. I'm going to meet my goal of 140 this time.

This is me, except I'm not so far into my weight loss journey as forkeeps. It seems like things we're rolling right along at a couple pounds a week until I started actually getting disciplined. :lol: I just started and I'm morbidly obese; I don't think it's unreasonable to expect more than a half pound. Sigh... oh well, I'm in it for the long haul, so I'll just keep on keeping on and if things don't improve, I'll adapt and overcome.

First, I realized I've never used the spreadsheet, hope that's okay. It appears to require a gmail account which I don't have, and don't want. If it's okay with you, just logging into this thread is enough for me. I love seeing everybody's progress. This is going to be a great challenge!

And getting back to my last post about possibly upping my calories, I went ahead and took the plunge and raised my calories. It's scary, but I'll find out how it impacts my weight next Saturday on weigh-in day. I use MFP and changed the goals from "One pound per week" to "Half pound per week". Gave me almost 200 extra calories. I have been really tired lately, I'm wondering if my walking/running is too much for the amount of calories I had been eating. Hoping this helps.

Has anyone else raised their daily calories and had success? It seems counter-intuitive, but at this point I'll try anything.

Gah, I went back up again. I'm not surprised...actually I was surprised that the gain was so low considering how poorly I've eaten.

I'm really glad I've finally gotten into an exercise routine I can stick to consistently. But I really need to get my diet into place.

Hi all-- I'm a late joiner but would love to take part in this challenge-- the time frame is exactly perfect for me, since it will bring me right up to a wedding I'm attending at the end of June that I really want to look good for-- that's my motivation right now. I have a beautiful size 4 dress from Anthropologie that I wore last winter that I have decided I want to wear to the wedding, so my big goal is being able to fit into that so I don't have to blow money on something new. I've been off plan for a while now, but I'm ready and determined to jump right back in, especially since time is moving so quickly!

I'm adding myself to the spreadsheet. I'm making my goal for 7 lbs-- 1 lb a week from now until the end date. I really would love to lose more, but that's the most I can put right now while still being realistic. I hope I can do it, guys!

I lost 8.2lbs (3.7kg) in the first 7-week challenge and 5.9lbs (2.7kg) in the second 9-week challenge, where I hit a nerve-wracking plateou. Afterwards I fell of the wagon a little. Anyway, dieting has it's ups and downs and I still hope to lose 8lbs (3.6kg) in this 9-week challenge like I did in the first one. It'd be really nice to get out of the 180s finally. Wish me well.

Week 5 Weigh In!

I have been missing a lot lately for the last few weeks, only coming to check back in every couple of days.

I've been doing pretty terrible, but I refuse to give up. I just need to find my motivation again. I'm back to the heaviest I've been in two years which is depressing. My clothes look awful on me and I feel terrible in them. I got news during the week of a wedding that is in October - I would like to have 20lbs off my then. A small doable goal if I put my mind to it!

Do any of you use anything good weigh loss apps I could get on my phone? I'd be interested to hear about them.

Down 1.8 this week and back into the 160s. Yay! I plan on upping my activity a little bit this week; I ran 6 miles in all this past week, I plan on adding a few this week. In the long run that will be a good thing, but it may cause a stall on the scale next week. Hopefully drinking plenty of water will keep things moving in the right direction.

Dreamer: I have several apps I use, depending on what you are looking for. For tracking calories, I use My Fitness Pal. For tracking activity, I use UP but it syncs with my Jawbone UP activity monitor (so the app would be useless unless you have one of those). For running, I use Ease Into 5K and Zombies Run. There are a few others that I consider health-related apps, like one that finds local farmer's markets, a paleo app, and a tea-drinking app. :-)

Good luck, you can do it! Just stay focused and breathe even through the rough times. :-)

Finally! I'm finally below my initial weigh in for this challenge! I was able to find a method for sticking with my deficit and it paid off big time.


Do any of you use anything good weigh loss apps I could get on my phone? I'd be interested to hear about them.


I track my calories, macronutrients, exercise minutes, and weight loss indicators (weight, body fat %, measurements) with MyFitnessPal. I only use the web-based version, but I believe it's available via an app.

Even if you don't track calories as your weight loss method, you might find the exercise and measurement tracking useful!

Have been having a big whoosh in the past couple of weeks, which I totally don't deserve but am very pleasantly surprised to see. I'm down to about 3 pounds from goal now, which I definitely think is doable if I can continue the way I've been going. Now that we're in the home stretch, I'm trying a smoothie meal plan that a friend recommended to me. Mainly consists of smoothies for meals made in a single serving blender, mostly leafy greens, some fruit, and plain almond milk or plain nonfat greek yogurt. Snacks and some dinners will involve real food, of course. Not really a permanent solution, but hopefully a quick way to get myself disciplined and down so I can fit into this stupid dress for the wedding. Things are going to be insane for me at work over the next few weeks, so it will be helpful not to really have to think about my meals.

These days I'm low on motivation for losing weight, so I'm telling myself I had a few maintaining weeks. I'm also telling myself that the reason for eating a little more than I should was that I was more focused on excercise. It's so depressing to check in on a weight-loss challenge, when you haven't lost weight in almost four weeks. Anyway, I hope the faze is over and today I'm starting fresh.

Hello everyone!


Just had a look at the spreadsheet and was updating it! Keep up the good work! And if things aren't going your way, don't give up - this is what I've been telling myself.

I haven't been able to get on over the last couple of weeks because of numerous things going on and being super busy with work. My cousins were here for just over two weeks - amazingly with all the bad foods I ate I only gained 1lb!

This challenge has just been a disaster for me. I thought I had it in me to do it but I didn't and failed. There is one week left in this challenge and I'm determined to drop 1 or 2lbs off my current weight. NO MORE GAINS!

I'm about to make an exercise plan and see how I get on with it. I'm going to be strict on my eating (which is my biggest downfall) I have slipped back into really really bad habits over the last two or so months. I've gained a good amount of weight and looking at pictures of me is just depressing me. :(

I will started a new topic for Challenge 4 early in the week - can you believe we are half way through 2014!!!

I haven't been worrying about diet at all really, and I've been somewhat not really keeping up with my exercise (though continuing my dance classes). So I was quite pleased when I weighed in at 135 today, especially after a trip home the previous weekend. I'll try to remember to weigh in Saturday. Even though I didn't reach my ambitious challenge goal, I'm not disappointed with where I'm at right now.

Sigh, still on the same pattern but I am not giving up. So I am on this challenge too. :) At least two days till weigh in. Going to try and get some of the water weight off.

First Day of Summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing about challenges is the end always seems so far away. And then that day always comes! And we can choose to have that day come with positive health changes or not. Trying to psych myself up for the next challenge!

I did not hit my goal but I was on plan almost the entire challenge. I did hit the 140's today so I am super excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done to each and every one who stuck until the end :) Challenges are always difficult - especially if you are going the wrong way. For those who didn't make it to their goals or are somewhat disappointed, don't give up. I've been a disaster for the last few weeks but I'm slowly getting back into the habit again. Hope to see you all for Challenge 4!
