I hadn't felt Wierd, hungry, or anything. I followed the protocol and like the other diets, no loss. Stupid scale. I am going to keep going because I know it is physically impossible not to lose weight as it is so low cal. I have started journaling my food to make sure I am not taking in too many calories or carbs. This is what I normally have been eating:
Morning: choc shake- Proti-diet
Mid morning- snack 1 cup cucumbers with white vinegar with dill
Lunch-Proti diet chicken noodle soup. 1-2 cups lettuce salad with mushrooms, green peppers, vinegar and 2 tsps olive oil, lemon juice
Dinner- chicken breast and 2 cups of broccoli
I drink some coffee with a little skim, but the rest is water all day.
I don't have a IP coach. I have been using the most current Phase 1 sheet. Here is my summary from yesterday:
Fat 38% carb 19% protein 43%
Any suggestions would be great!

Phase 1, day 1 starts today!! Very excited! Have a whole week of good meals planned. I've enjoyed thinking of ways I can doctor up my IP packets with veggies and spices to make them interesting. It's a fun challenge!

Billy7613:

make sure you are getting in your packets.

2 unrestricted + 1 restricted with 4 cups of veggies and 8oz of lean meat.

by the looks of it, you are not using the last packet.

My day consist of this:
B:1 packet of Honey Nut Soy Cereal
L: 2 cups of Broc + 1 Packet of PD Cream of Chicken
S: BBQ zippers
D: 8oz lemon chicken with 2 cups of rutabaga with 1.5 tbsp of olive oil

throughout the day i am drinking about 64oz+ of water.

Hope this helps!

Good morning everyone. I had a restful yet productive weekend and wasn't hungry yesterday... Yay! I have to remember next time I'm struggling to take a time out to rest and get back in the 'zone'. Seemed to do the trick! Have a good day!

Sometimes your body may be reacting because it's TOO low cal all of a sudden and it has gone into "starvation caveman mode" or whatever they call it. I'm not sure what your starting weight is, but make sure you're getting in all your packets as recommended. On yesterday's chat Lisa listed the packets per weight ratio. Check to see-- maybe you should be having an extra packet for the first bit?

Some people also think skipping the restricted helps them but others find they need the boost so maybe add a restricted as your last packet. It may be a yummy treat to look forward to as well :)

Don't give up. The journalling is really important. You'll see a trend after a bit.

I'm so glad you're feeling better. It sounds like you have gained good knowledge from this experience and another tool to keep you OP = taking time to take care of yourself. Good job.

I was traveling for work all last week but I thought about all of you fellow IP'ers.

I did a bit of P2 last week to get through my traveling. Ate 2 lean and green meals and then cut out my last snack, but it helped me get through the week without a cheat, so that's a total NSV! I thought for sure at my conferences, when the free alcohol and hors d'oevers were flowing, I was going to cave. But I didn't and came back to a 7.4 scale loss! :carrot:

And I earned my ticker! Love seeing the progress on that thing!

I just got back from a week long trip and was able to stay completely OP. I went with my daughter and son-in-law by car on a 21 hour drive to see my grandson graduate from army boot camp. I packed a week's worth of chopped up miscellaneous veggies, along with Rainbow's travel kit and lots of protein packets. The ice chest sat beside me in the back seat and worked out perfectly. The kids always ate somewhere for my benefit although I kept telling them I could eat anywhere since I was so prepared.
Today, I weighed and lost a pound since I left but that's better than what could have happened if I had not been prepared for the trip. I am so happy with myself and that I can successfully get to the end of this journey if I keep at it.
As a side note I was able to walk the length of the football sized field along with the crowd at a good pace. I couldn't have done that 6 months ago before losing all this weight.

Are you measuring your veggies? Maybe you are getting a few more in than you realize. Also, the Danilyn made a good point. You want to be sure to get that snack in! I was ill with the flu for a week and I had a terrible time eating all the food for that week and I somehow managed not to loose a pound eating 300-400 calories a day for about 6 days. (Not a planned thing - I just couldn't keep anything down) Another thing that might play a factor is TOM. Weight fluctuates like mad during that time!!! Keep up the good work and the scale will be more compliant in the next few weeks for sure!!!

:crossed: Started using alternatives today and I'm a bit nervous! In 2 months, I have lost 30 pounds! I want to keep that up! But I also want to have a little more spending money to make this a fabulous summer for my niece who lives with us. It's hard to justify all the money spent on IP products when alternatives can be purchased for less and the money can go towards fabulous summer programs (you are only a kid once)...

Billy - first of all, I commend your stick-with-it attitude! Second, since I promised you that you the scale would go down today I guess I have to eat my words. (But there might be carbs in words, so I will have some crow instead.)

In addition the great suggestions others have made here, I have to ask if you are taking the recommended vitamins/supplements on the P1 sheet? You DO need a multi-vitamin (because this diet is severely lacking), calcium/magnesium (the magnesium will help you from getting constipated - speaking of which, are you having regular BMs? If you're backed up the scale can be up several pounds!), and the potassium (to prevent muscle cramps.)

I would also recommend the omega-3s as suggested on the sheet. I found on the weeks I didn't take them my losses were slower, but my evidence is purely anecdotal.

Hi all. Today is day 1 of my restart. Due to the emotional/physical stress I've been under I pretty much put the diet aside. I needed to focus on my relationship and make the steps to keep it going. Luckily I didn't gain any weight but my partner lost 20 lbs.
I need to be sure that we are eating healthy nutrient rich meals, so off to the recipes I go now.

Hurray for you!! You may notice another drop..travel..esp sitting in a car or a long distance flight almost always results in water weight. Some of us noticed by allowing a few more days back in your own routine things like excess water whooosh away...and you might be happily surprised at how you REALLY did!!!

I can't say enough what a great coach this website is. This weekend was terrible. I had almost 10 guests at home and I was cooking all this wonderful food which I cannot eat and I was almost in tears thinking why do I need to do this.
But I was able to control it although I felt sad but I kept telling, I can enjoy all the foods once I reach my goal ofcourse in moderations.
Today is Day 6. Still light headaches and feeling hungry but I am able to control them.
BTW a Question: I don't like a lot of veggies but I like cucumbers so that is all I am eating for my 2 cup vegetables for lunch and dinner. Is it ok if I eat just one type of vegetable?

I've read part of the Beck book and rather than reading cards during the day, I have appointments pop up in Outlook throughout the day.

Subject line has the reasons for losing weight and keeping it off (this time)

"Donít disappoint husband again, Look better, Be healthier, New clothes, SIT DOWN, CREDIT, hunger quotient"

Meaning: Sit down to eat, give myself credit for walking past that darn bowl of candy at the front desk and decide how hungry I really am. Is it hunger or craving?

I start P3 in morning.
I've been reading posts and think I have breakfast figured out.
I want the same thing every day, something I can eat at my desk. I start work at 6 so have no intention of cooking eggs at 5AM.
I am thinking I'll do greek yogurt, blue berries, thin WW toast and couple tbsp. of almond butter. Will see what my coach says at WI today.

fingers crossed

Sorry to hear you had a rough weekend. Perhaps for next time you could make lunches/dinners that all of you could eat like noodleless chop suey or steak & a big salad. People staying at my house had better not expect to have crap set before them just because that's their usual diet... lol. My hubby & I eat healthy and anyone who stays at our house eats healthy too, or decides to go out for their own dinner ;).

On the question of cucumbers alone, keep trying to get a variety because cukes don't really have much nutrition/vitamins in them - you need all the colourful veggies like red sweet peppers, cruciferous veg like broccoli and cauliflower, etc to help your body get healthy again. The easiest way to try new veggies is to roast them in the oven with a little sprinkle of EVOO (which you are supposed to have anyhow) and some garlic cloves or spices and herbs. The veggies get sweeter that way and lose any bitterness.

Another idea is a marinated veggie salad (kinda like Greek Salad) with cukes, a few cherry tomatoes, a bit of green onion, and red pepper or yellow or orange chunks. Add a bit of oregano & basil, salt & pepper, EVOO, and apple cider vinegar and let sit in the fridge for a few hours.

You could also sneak spinach into your smoothies in the blender (IP peach mango is good.) Strange colour but close your eyes and drink up and you won't even know.

Hang on, and if you are working with a coach ask her for some veggie ideas, check out Chef Daniel Verati's Facebook page for some recipes (Chef Verati) - he cooks IP and has some good P1 ideas. You can also google IP veggie recipes and may find something you like. Start practicing finding interesting veggies you can learn to like because you will never manage maintenance if you don't have proper veg in your life. You DO realize we can't go back to eating our old way and expect to keep our results. :broc:

I eat chinese a lot, but then again I really like chop suey without rice or noodles, lol. Curly fries are perfect for your breakfast or for your 'Funday' once a week. I've eaten pizza for my breakfast and have been in maintenance 6 weeks now and actually lost a pound.

Good morning everyone! I was wondering if someone can tell me why we cannot have Jello sugar free jello? Thanks

They contain aspartame, which is not allowed. I have seen on other threads that some people will make their own homemade gelatin using water flavorings and plain gelatin.

Welcome back Nolasmurf, great to see you again!!

Thanks for the tip. I will check Checf Verati's page and also look for some veggie recipes.
I thought we could eat all the foods in moderation after our IP diet is complete. So I can never eat my beloved curly fries or chinese?

.....the diet to lose...& then there's your diet for life.

Depends on how much of things like curly fries you want to eat...you can taste just about anything at some point...problem is...will you be satisfied?

How overweight are you now...and how long have you been overweight? Are you insulin resistant...which a lot of very overweight people are.

The maintainers thread is a dose of realism. It is not just IP realism...but deals realistically with what made you overweight originally. Heading in to the future with out making some major adjustments to change behaviors that got you where you are now might mean your head needs more time. Your body won't be able to listen if your head is not where it needs to be.

Some "graduates" of IP have made 180 degree lifestyle changes and are off and running to a great life-ever-after of health and happiness at a normal (even slim) weight. If they stay on track. And you will be able to read words of wisdom from some who slipped back to old ways. Some find themselves back here...or looking for another diet.

IP will get the weight off faster and better in most cases than any other diet you might try...what happens down the road depends on decision making and attitude adjustments. The ones who do well feel blessed to have found a thinner life...and do not feel deprived. The trade off is worth it to those who decide to adopt a healthy diet for the future.
But if your goal is fries as part of your diet again, and that means more to your happiness...you may not be ready for this or any diet. Your own metabolism will determine how often and how big a bite of something is safe for your maintenance.

Nolasmurf - it is nice to see you back in the site - you were missed!

Congratulations on the restart. It takes courage and strength to go back when you have been off and under such stress. No gaining any weight suggests that maybe you were still putting some of the principles you have learned into place, maybe?

Look forward to reading more from you....

Today is day 12 for me and I noticed throughout the weekend that I have so much more energy than I did before. The first week was rough, but I've finally settled into a routine and have found the plan to be pretty simple to stick with. I really need the structure and limitations that this plan provides. Hoping for a good loss this week, but I'll take the increased energy even if there's no loss!

Hello everyone. I stated IP on Friday, April 4th. I spent the weekend reading a number of the IP threads here.

I'm short, so I'm only looking to loose 30 lbs. Those extra 30lbs registred a 32% BMI = obese! I'm tired of being uncomfortable and I refuse to go up another pants size. Exercising and calorie counting didn't show more than a 5 lb. fluxation in my weight, so it was time to try something new.

So far I really like the IP diet. I haven't felt the urge to cheat and I've honestly never ate such a large volume of food. 4 cups of veggies is a lot! I'm really going to try hard not to cheat so that I can move on as quickly as possible.

canadjineh.. great outline and good plan for what you are eating. What phase are you in?

I'm in maintenance and have been for 6 weeks. My coach and the IP videos have focused on the main ideas of not worrying about your mix of carbs & fats proportion for breakfast when you need to get your body powered up for the day, and making sure you keep your fat-poor meal separate from your carb- poor meal.
I was having difficulty with a 3:1 ratio of fat to carb for my carb-poor meal so I've changed it up with their assistance to more like 1:1 and it's working great for me.
It's important to do your Funday though, so you don't feel out of sync with your friends. Just make sure you've planned it and it's not just some random day because your friends want a movie, pizza & beer.

Phase 1, day 1 starts today!! Very excited! Have a whole week of good meals planned. I've enjoyed thinking of ways I can doctor up my IP packets with veggies and spices to make them interesting. It's a fun challenge!
Good for you! Planning is key to success. And if the day is going to be less structured, it is always good to have a Plan B.

Check the first post of this thread for links to TONS of recipes. That'll keep you busy jazzing up your packets.

P3 is really easy if you read the breakfast thread and pick 1-3 standard breakfasts (one will work, too)

I set reminders to pop up on my computer too for CREDIT & read ARC (advantages response card), which I keep in the notes section of my phone, tablet, and computer. Thank goodness they all sync!

WOW!! Congrats!!! That behavior is inspiring!!!

Hi Hope2781
BTW a Question: I don't like a lot of veggies but I like cucumbers so that is all I am eating for my 2 cup vegetables for lunch and dinner. Is it ok if I eat just one type of vegetable?

I am also not very adventurous with veggies - partly because I am allergic to peppers and tomatoes. I agree with the roasting tip - a little EVOO and sea salt and a little time in the oven make a big difference. I roast mushrooms, fennel, kale, zuccini, etc. Plus, since we measure them raw, and they shrink when cooked, it makes those 4 cups a day much easier to eat. And leftovers taste good mixed with scrambled eggs, or even tuna.

I've also made it a goal to try a different veg every week. Just whatever is on program and looks good in my grocery store.

And then some weeks I eat 2 cups of celery 5 days in a row for lunch because I bought a big bag and don't want it to go to waste.

I weigh in today and I'm really excited to see how I've done. I just got back from a 4 day band competition with my son to Disneyland. I did great! Not one off program item crossed my lips. I did, one day, have 2 of the restricted chocolate mint bars, but I think that it will be fine.

That's the attitude... keep pushing on! I had severe hunger and never understood why others who were in ketosis didn't. Ended up I was taking a baby aspirin every day and it was coated with something. I quit taking it and the hunger left.

Keep up the good work!

I sooo feel the same as you. Before this diet my husband and I would eat like a head of broccoli each, if not some more veggies on the side. I have to measure my veggies carefully to control myself. I've always loved all of them and it is hard to hold back sometimes.

So I was asking my coach today if he wants to phase me off before I go on my vacation in June. I will be at about 85% of my goal, and plan to return to IP after I return, but I figured he'd want to phase me off. He said no, that I should just add a few carbs the day before and get my body used to it. He said I should enjoy my vacation and when I come back we will jump back on the wagon, lose the last 20-30 I need to lose and then phase off. Sounds like a good plan I guess. I'm getting so excited for my vacation and for what my body will look like. I already feel more comfortable in a swimsuit (had to buy a smaller one this weekend and expect to buy a smaller one before I go once or twice).

The ladies at my work weigh in every Monday. They saw my weight and asked me how much I've lost, in how much time.

They think I'm losing weight to quickly and it's not healthy, but they say they can really notice the loss in my face and tummy area.

I love them, they just worry too much.

On a side note I was busy all weekend organising. I gave a lot of stuff to my best friend (gave her 3 bags of ********** since I won`t be using it for awhile). I also have a few things to take to work and leave.

My muscles are really sore from cleaning up the backyard all Sunday and going swimming with my boys, I was starving yesterday and was wondering if I should have an extra packet, but didn`t. It`s too expensive. Really considering just placing a huge order from NashuaNutrition.com for the alternatives. I have to buy a lot at once, because the shipping cost is $40 at least to Canada.

Any favorites?

I only have 30ish to lose too. We have similar stats and I had to go off plan twice now due to medical issues. But I'm back again( third restart) and am happy to get back to losing! Today is day 8 and so far I'm down 7. Woot, woot!

For those of you who are hungry, even for more veggies (lol) - try eating them raw, it takes a lot longer to eat a 'marinated salad' of cauliflower, broccoli, celery, etc (mixed veg) with EVOO & AC vinegar than if you cook it all down. Especially the stuff like kale & spinach & mushrooms. Try a couple days eating raw and see if that gets you through it. The 'starving phase' usually doesn't last very long so hang on, it gets better.

Once you are in maintenance, you could probably eat that whole bag of broccoli if you really want. Just watch out for the frozen mixed peas, carrots, beans, corn mix - ALL high carb veg that may screw you up after a whole bag, :nono:

LOL! I was going to suggest eating all veggies cooked. Cooked satisfies me much more than raw.
I guess each person needs to experiment with what works best for them, huh?

And I put my meat on a BIG bed of salad (4 cups) when I'm hungry.

Piling the meat & veg on the salad greens is a great idea. I've used that one when I was desperate, but found the extra salad didn't make it into my diet all that often.
LOL, cooked veggies disappear way too fast for my liking although I prefer to have hot food too. If you can stand to eat them without dips (but lots can't), raw worked pretty good - for me at least.

Well Day 2 is coming to a close and it has been going great so far. I haven't weighed yet but I'm feeling like it's going to work well.

Steam-in-bag broccoli, and KFC's grilled chicken make the meal really easy. One day I may get bored with them, but I don't think it's going to happen for a while.

Do ya'll use ketostix?

Do you use any supplements other than the multivitamin and cal/mag/potassium? Not looking for a weight loss pill, just thinking from a health perspective. I think fish oil might be helpful on this diet because of how little fat is in the diet.

WElcome & congrats for choosing IP!
Most of us consider ketostix a waste of money
Supplements: I use omega 3 and I used digestive enzymes for a while.

Double-check ingredients in KFC grilled chicken. Make sure there is no added sugar or other ingredients we're not supposed to have. Fast food is notorious for adding stuff we don't think is there...
