Are we lions or lambs in March? Let's be gentle in our self-talk and fierce in our determination to meet our weight loss goals. The monthly weight loss challenge is a great place to track your progress in March and, then, follow through with each monthly thread for the rest of the year.

State your goal for March and join a supportive and encouraging group to help you meet it. We will compile our goals into a list. As each goal is met during the month, it gets turned RED in celebration.

While the scale doesn't reflect it, February was actually a very productive month for me. I started lifting heavy in early January and my body shows the difference. I'm excited to see what March brings!

I am in too. As the last two months I have been slow on weight-loss I am going to aim low and pray for high. I was 209.2 this morning I am going to make it my goal to get below 205 and stay below 205.
Plan: Exercise minimum 350 minutes a week. Step average for the week 14500 steps a day. Start working with personal trainer to get my weightlifting on board. Complete my race on March 9th and start 10K training. Food goal 1700 calories, no eating my exercise calories. I am going to give myself one cheat day a week which I will still count calories. That cheat day will be Friday's only.
Gardner Joy: You only need to post my weight goal, I know this would be a lot to list. Thanks for starting this challenge again.

Since February's goal of Weighing, Writing a plan, and Writing a post (3Ws) worked well for me, I'm going to try another behavioral goal for March. I'm going to score my on-plan-ness each day and I'm aiming for 80% or better every day this month.

March 1 - 158.6 - after treat day so up a bit

Goal lose 8.7 to get into the 140s

My goal is to see 149.9 or less at some point during the month, it looks like a lot today, and probably more tomorrow as it feels like TOM might be coming to visit...but I didn't have a loss at the end of Feb and it was treat day yesterday, so my start weight is a little higher than normal.

Another goal I have is to hopefully not see 16x.x this month, if I do that and don't make 14x,x I'll consider that a success as well. Tomorrow will prob. determine if I make that one :)

Wishing everyone much success! Just coming here this month is a success, think of how many New Year's resolutions are long forgotten, we keep making new ones each month.

Hi everyone!! I am back from vacation and back here to continue my weight loss journey.. I did add up a couple of pounds over the last 2 months as I was not following a plan.. Time to gear up again and need all the motivation I can get..

So my goal is to lose 10 lbs this month.. Though I will be happy if I lose 8 lbs and move out of the 180s permanently.. I have been in there for a long time now (say close to 4 months... n I am not proud about it) N moving to anything less than 180 will make me no longer obese according to the BMI and will be overweight.

SW: 184 (keeps fluctuating... not sure why though.. may be water weight)
GW: 174 ( but will consider success if I reach 176 :) )

My next goal will be to make healthy choices through this month and have little room for exceptions..

Lets begin the march..

I'm going to adjust my goal for a couple of reasons. The first is that my March 1st weigh in was after an evening out with good food and good drinks so the number is a bit inflated to begin with. Also, Last night was night one of a 6 week boot camp that i've joined and I expect more of myself this month, so my expectation should be represented in my goal.

tinajayne72 - I used to think the same way, but I've kind of come to grips with the fact that if I want to stay at a reasonable weight, I'm going to have to pay attention to my calories probably forever. As far as exercise goes, I find that it's a lot less of a chore if you find something that you really like (dance, or kickboxing, or yoga, or whatever), not just something you have to do.

tinajayne stick with it, the results will come, the good news is you won't be trying to lose at some point, so you'll be able to loosen up a bit, one thing long term weight loss/maintenance will teach you is patience...some days will be easier to have patience than others.

I am not sure who brought it up - but I plan on counting calories for at least another year once I reach my goal weight. Not to lose more - but I have been overweight all my life, and quite frankly, never had a normal eating pattern. I spent the last 15 months losing weight and eating at a deficit, and that is also not a normal eating pattern.
Normal - maintenance - eating needs to be learned, too, and therefore I will track and weigh-in for another while just to see what I need to do to maintain.
It's a lifestyle change :p

Anyways, guys, forgot to ask yesterday, is anybody giving up anything for lent? Not asking for religious reasons, in Germany it's very popular to refrain for 40 days. I wanted to go without the smartphone this year, but then decided not to because it's my sole means of communication basically so I feel like I can't.
Now I just do the traditional candy/cake/alcohol/soda thing. It's my birthday next week though, and my birthday is always an exception :p

Did my hour walk at the indoor track last night...feeling much better! If I didn't have blisters on my feet, and was able to walk better (sore after a hard walk) I woulda done more exercise when I got home! haha

Add me to the ranks of the sickies. I've had a chest/head cold for three weeks now. It was getting better last week, but it seems to have refreshed itself overnight. Sigh.

tinajayne - I know what you mean, it is hard to keep working hard when the scale isn't showing it. Stick with it, though! It'll give eventually if you're eating right.

183StGB - I know from previous experience that counting calories is the ONLY way to keep weight off for me. I know there are a lot of people who can maintain without it once they relearn how to eat, but for me, the second I stop the weight starts creeping back. The good news, though, is that maintenance calories are a fair bit higher than weight-loss calories, especially if you add some muscle, so it's not too bad at all. And nothing for Lent here - I'm not a fan of self-denial, haha!

183StGB - I'm not very religious, but I'm going to attempt to fast for the duration of Lent. Meaning, one small meal in the morning, one full meal and nothing else. I was inspired by my 92-year old aunt who continues to fast even though she isn't required to.

Lately, I've been following a plan that amounts to "how much can I eat/cheat and still lose weight?" and I'm sure that's why my weight loss has slowed so much. I think this will get me back to a point where I'm mindfully eating and not just grabbing stuff when I walk by.

I kind of think that "fasting" is a first-world luxury when you consider the many inhabitants of the world who really don't have a choice in the matter. So, for the next 40 days, I want to use my minor suffering as a reminder to appreciate what I have and to contemplate ways I can help those who don't.

One day down - I'll let you know how I fare!

boatingmommy - The bootcamp is great for burning calories, and for that reason and for the group mentality, I'm enjoying it. I'm a bit weary of the approach, because at the end of the day, they are throwing lots of body weigtht exercises like push ups and squats and lots of plyometric stuff over and over until everyone wants to die. Form suffers and even though there are 2 coaches trying to make sure everyone is working properly, i know these activities are high risk for injury... that aside, i think its really going to help accellerate my progress this month! I'll keep ya posted!

thank you guys on your views in RE: to lent. Like I said, it is more of a cultural thing over here in Germany, and I see it as a 'challenge accepted' kind of situation. And for some odd reason, if I decide not to eat candy because of lent I actually stick to it. Which is weird.

Sherma - We all have slip ups, I had one last night. Went to Olive Garden to treat myself because I'm on a cleanse and can't have meat or much sugar. I've been very strict on my 85% vegetable diet. So I had some meatless pasta and 1 breadstick, a little salad. It wasn't so bad that I felt sick and gained a lot, but I still had a .4 gain. I'll make up for it today!

Day 2 stomach flu. Symptoms not so bad slowing down. Unfortunately energy level sucks. Going to try to walk in the house so i stay close to the bathroom. This is really killing my step average for the exercise challenge. I guess if i look at it over the full month though.....it's doable. Scared for my race on sunday.

Feeling much better this morning! Good enough to go to the gym and finish week one of c25k, in fact! (just as soon as I finish typing this post)

sherma - It's probably water weight. Your body holds more or less water depending on things like salt intake, hormones, exercise, etc. Here's a really good article (http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/of-whooshes-and-squishy-fat.html) that goes into more detail. The most important thing to remember is that day-to-day fluctuations like that are totally normal, so don't get discouraged! Look at me this month - down two pounds, up a pound, and so on. It's irritating on the 'up' days, but it's going down on average so it's all good.

Just completed my second month on IP today!!! I have averaged 15 a month so far w a total weight loss of 31 and some change. Looking for another 15 starting march 8 ending April 8... That is the day before my birthday. What a wonderful present to myself to weigh in at 190 flat for the first time since the birth of my third little girl!! Here we go! 15 here i come.

good morning guys :)

it's my weigh-in day, and I'm a little disappointed. I had a good week and yeah, I did track my intake accurately with a scale. I didn't exercise as hard as I usually do because I was exhausted and I pulled something in my leg, but I made sure to walk instead. So yeah, sucky, but I guess it balances out with the big loss I had last week.

Hope everyone else is doing better on the scale :p
P.S. I just got woken up by the drunk kids upstairs playing Alligatoah - Willst Du -- and even when they played it earlier at 2:32am, I though it was a good song ;) Take care guys!

After 5 days of not being able to keep any food in my system (it LITERALLY ran right through me....even the tea seemed to not stick), I am finally seeing the light of day. I lost 7 pounds during the madness but I must say, I would take that 7 pounds back in a heartbeat rather than going through those awful 5 days again. TOM came during the craziness too so I was just beat down. Gonna start eating again slooooowly. Ugh. Glad the worst is over.

Sooo close to out of the 200s! I'm still finding it hard to fit in exercise.. sometimes I get so busy I can't imagine having to use an hour to go for a walk! Last night I didn't start my walk until 6 last night.. was dark when I got home.. and my front calves were burning so bad I thought I would give up.. but 25 min into it they finally went numb and I pushed on...lol

Okay so I had a meltdown today. :o I saw the number up for the 3rd day in a row when I've been just barely hitting 1100 calories, have had no meat, not much dairy, and constricted my sugar to 3 pieces of low sugar fruit a day and not much else. I've been working out, getting my water, drinking green tea. It pissed me off and I decided to let my plan go on hiatus and went out to breakfast. I made poor choices BUT stopped myself half way and made it as decent as I could. I gave my bacon to my fiance, had wheat toast, only ate 1 of my pancakes. And I didn't let it ruin the rest of my day. I ran around the playground with my son for about 45 minutes, and had a good dinner. I skipped lunch and snacks besides 1 apple due to being full and a tad guilty from breakfast. But one accomplishment I made that I've never made before - taking 1 cheat incident and not turning it into a cheat DAY. I didn't just say oh I'll eat whatever I want today now and get back to it tomorrow. I got back to it right away. So there is something positive that came out of it, and tomorrow is a new day!!

Oh and I feel extra silly because I also realized (while I still may be up, who knows - but I know it can be a lot of different factors and I need to accept that) that my scale was very inaccurate/inconsistent due to dying batteries. I put fresh brand name ones in and will see what it says tomorrow....

So met with the personal trainer. They don't want me weighing in. I will compromise with weekly weigh ins. I can't remember my measurements exactly so I will post later. Run done. Did better than expected and pleased I ran it all. Need to find one for late April early May.

Been pissed off all week after getting into it with my sis-in-law.:mad: She made comments about how I am obsessed with losing weight, even going as far as to say that I am shallow and vain. Well, I guess I am a little. I am determined to get this weight off and my appearance matters to me. I refuse to continue to live life as someone who is overweight and unhealthy. I really think that she is feeling threatened because she is so unhealthy and has not decided to do something about it, and because she is missing her drinking buddy. Thanks everyone for the supportive words...it felt good to get it off my chest and I knew you guys would understand.

I am feeling so sorry for all of you that got hit with the latest winter storm...We are so ready for spring here. I loved walking with my husband two nights this week. I just keep telling myself that we are getting closer to warmer weather everyday.

Man it sucks watching the weight just march upward the past few days. I've been perfectly on track with calories and exercise, so I know it's going to start marching back down soon, but it's really discouraging.
