Hi girls! Ugghh! I have been eating way to much meat in the past few days. I do have my three cups of veggies daily, but mostly it is lettuce or cucumbers.

Breakfeast - three eggs scrambled (two egg whites, one whole egg), with ham too! ( I think I shouldn't have eaten the ham though. I am sure that it was honey baked, but it was in the freezer and too tempting!)

Lunch - post roast, salad with mayo

Snack - fried chicken (no skin), cream cheese.

Dinner - fried chicken (no skin), hamburger, cucumbers with mayo

Quick question - What are you girls doing for sweet snacks? We are allowed to eat 'Ready Whip' correct? I get a craving for sweets after dinner but cannot find anything to eat!
Also, has anyone found a good sugarfree, aspartame free gum to chew?
Thanks for the help and good luck!

Froufy

Are you on Atkins? If so don't think Reddi-Whip is allowed due to sugar content (unless it is sugar free?)...... I know you can however make your own sugar free whipped cream with heavy/whipping cream with splenda...very yummy...add a splash of vanilla and some cream cheese for a mock cheesecake kind of dessert. All of these are allowed on induction.

Another option for the sweet tooth (altho we are supposed to stop having one :p ) is sf gelatin (not jello due to aspartame) made with gelatin and splenda and regular kool aid (unsweetened).

Have fun.

Froufy, how much kool aid and splenda do you put in your gelatin?

LizzieBeth, none of the cool whips/whip creams on the market are allowed. They all have sugar, and some of them have starches to thicken them with. After having homemade whipping cream whipped with Splenda, I don't think I'd ever want to go back to store bought!

Yesterday wasn't the greatest. Not bad though---

B Smoothie

S string cheese

L chicken breast, a deviled egg, garden salad

D eggplant parmesan and salad.

I forgot that we were taking Cody to dinner for the first day of school celebration (tradition, and he gets homeschooled starting next year so this is our last ever!) so we went to Olive Garden. I had 3 bites of spaghetti and about 3 tablespoons of breading on the eggplant, and I gained 2 pounds! Must be water.

Today's plan:

B Smoothis

S String cheese

L Salad...maybe a chicken breast

S mixed nuts

D Sauteeed chicken and spinach casserole, salad

OK, I've looked at Atkins. I've looked at The Zone. I'm not sure what the heck I'm doing!!! I need some guidance here!!! I know there are veggies that are carbs as well as fruit is a carb! Is it OK to eat some veggies and fruits? I'm a carb addict with bread, potatoes and pasta especially! Cokes and those things are what I'm trying to stay away from!

My menu today:

B-1 egg w/slice FF ham and low fat cheese
S-Zone perfect bar (they're sooooo good)
L- chicken breast, squash and tomatoe, cucumber and onion salad with Lite Paul Newman's dressing
S- string cheese and 10 white grapes
D- I'm not sure yet! I've got to work so I'm thinking a salad!

Please help! I think I'm gonna like this but I just want to make sure I'm doing it right!

Thanks!

Hi all. I have been doing atkins for 11 days now. I have a question -

How should I be getting up to 20 g of carbs a day? I don't drink coffee, so the coffee, splenda and cream points are out (unless I have cream some other time)

I am having trouble getting enough food in, as I am not hungry - but I really can't see how I could quadrouple (sp) my carbs unless I have a cookie? (believe me, I would be happy to)

Seriously, am I calculating wrong? What would you suggest?

Thanks!

RobinW
07-15-2003, 07:33 PM
Bailey, I would suggest you add more veggies, add mushrooms and green peppers to your eggs in the morning. Anything like that would work pretty good. Instead of cheese for snacks, have a few slices of cucumber etc. I know your not hungry, I have that same problem, but we have to eat, or our bodies think we are starving them.

Here was my day

Breakfast: 2 eggs w/cheddar cheese

Lunch 2 wasa crips w/ lf hard salami, and cheddar cheese

Supper: Curry chicken (from atkins site) and broccoli

Snack 1 boiled egg, 2 slices of turkey and sf jello

Froufy

Breakfast:
2 slices havarti (my package says 1.4 carbs per slice!) = 2.8
decaf w/cream (2)
=4.8

Lunch:

decaf w/cream (1)
=7.7

Dinner:
6 chicken wings (.5)
sour cream dip (3.5)
lc cheesecake (4)
decaf w/cream(2)
=10

Total: 22.5.....slightly over!

Bailey: how about some whipping cream whipped up w/some splenda and a splash of vanilla or other flavoring? Also you might want to add some snacks (I sometimes have a mock danish in the afternoon) to your menu. How about some cream cheese with your eggs. Also my bacon has some carbs (.7 for 3 slices) and my havarti is much higher in carbs than yours.....!!!

Froufy:D

P.S. Non aspartame jello recipe:
2 packets of Knox Gelatin
1 packet Koolaid mix (unsweetened & u pick the flavor)
8-10 packets of Splenda

Then you simply just make it like regular jello, add 2 cups boiling water and dislove the powders, then add 2 cups of cold water or ice!!

Hey there ruth - just curious how you make your protein shake?
I make mine using protein powder in a can from Walmart, but I blend 1 cup very cold water, 1 scoop protein powder, 1 banana, 5 or 6 frozen strawberries and 3 packets of splenda and it is sooooooo yummy good. Do you make yours from scratch too?

hugs,
Cathy

Hi there, Cathy.

If you are on Atkins or most other low carb diets, you need to eliminate the fruit. Bananas are very high carb (35.15)! You may as well throw in a slice and a half of white bread (21.8)!

My protein shake is: a cup of water, two scoops of protein powder, Splenda to taste, an egg and some SF Jello or Crystal Lite to flavour.

I hope this helps.

Ruth, I was wondering the same thing. Are you using a raw egg?

Well this is my first menue post. I know I already screwed up, but I'm making my self accountable.

This is the first day of the Atkins WOE.

B - 2 twizlers (well way before breakfast)
4 eggs (scrambles w/ olive oil spray)

L - Blackened Salmon
1/2 cp green beans

S - 1oz. cream cheese

Well that is all for now, I'll post as I eat.

I sometimes use eggbeaters, sometimes whites and sometimes live dangerously and have a raw egg! I've been eating raw eggs for years and have never had salmonella poisoning - EVER! I personally know the hens who produce my eggs so I don't worry. There are too many other things to worry about.

Janie, the best thing for you to do is read a few books and pick a plan. Experience of my own is the perfect example that you can't mix plans too easily! Zone isn't low carb, and their bars aren't either. If you want to do a low carb diet, you will have to pick another kind of bar.

As for the fruit, it depends on what plan you are on. Almost all of them have strict no-no's on fruit in the beginning. You need to get it all out of your system, then you can add it back in.

The rest of your day looked pretty good, except for the light salad dressing. Make sure you are getting enough fat, and also make sure that it doesn't have added sugar. Low fat ones often do.

At the very least, look at the low carb diet guide here, and then choose a plan from what you read.
http://www.3fatchicks.com/diet-toolbox/diet-plans/low-carb-guide.html is the Low Carb Diet Guide. In the Toolbox section on the left hand menu, you will find different diets to click on and read about. Hope it helps!

I've figured out a trick. If I get up around 6 a.m and run for 30 min., I have less trouble sticking to my food menu and goals of the day. However, if I am lazy and sleep in, I find that I consume more food and eat more carbs than I am suppose to! That is probably why I caved in and had a few pretzels today.

Back to square one and starting induction over again. This is one thing that bothers me about Atkins. One mess up and you must begin again for the two week induction! Oh well.

I finally bought the Atkins book, so I have a source right at my fingertips. Also, I am going to follow the example that many of you have set and post my menu plan ahead of time. I think this will help me stick to my goal better.

Sat. plan -
Breakfeast - 2 egg whites scrambled, decaf coffee with SnL
Lunch - small can of tuna, lettuce, slices of celery
Dinner - fish?, small salad, decaf coffee with SnL

Thanks everyone for the menu tips. I am going to try and make the Jello this weekend. Is the Knox Gelatin sold at local stores or specialty stores?
Have a great Friday night!

Jennifer 3FC
07-19-2003, 12:26 AM
Lizzie, you can get knox gelatin in regular grocery stores. I can't remember what section...maybe with canning supplies or baking goods, if it isn't with the Jello. Are you doing Atkins? If so, you should add some fat to your plan. When following ultra low carb plan, it is best that there is fat as well as protein. I know it is hard to get used to, we've been brainwashed to eat low fat for so long!

Today's menu

B smoothie, decaf coffee and creamer (I know not good)

L pizza burritos (pizza toppings in La Tortilla low carb tortilla)

S almonds

D salad, broccoli, "1/2 pound" (read: six little ones!) char broiled scallops on a suprise bed of pasta. Left the pasta on the plate. Still starved, so I had spinach artichoke dip on some tortilla chips. Not too many....stupid restaurant!

Tomorrow: black coffee, no restaurant. I'll learn!

Yesterday:

B smoothie

L grilled chicken with cheese, sauteed veggies

D steak and boiled shrimp, slaw, zucchini hash browns

S Golden Farm sugar free caramel candy and 1 Foster's Beer. Not the monster can, just a regular bottle. I was fed-up from a bad day, got a buzz and was happy again!

P.S. Getting better and better at dealing with the popcorn smell. Just got hubby on Atkins...altho he is complaining, and complaining (what a wuss!). He is a 30 year addict to chocolate and sweets so he is really feeling those cravings (he's on day 5).
