Phase 1 alternatives

B - Eas dark chocolate RTD heated (awesome!)
L - romaine salad with cucumbers, mushrooms, peppers, celery; Muscle Milk 100 RTD
D - steamed cod with ginger, garlic, and scallions; roast cauliflower and broccoli
S - Eas chocolate RTD heated again (that was really good!)

I didn't realize I couldn't substitute real protein (chicken, eggs, etc) for a packet! I guess I'll move my quest bar up to lunch and have another shake for dessert/snack. I really need some other alternatives besides shakes and bars...only 4 days in and I'm getting bored!

I didn't realize I couldn't substitute real protein (chicken, eggs, etc) for a packet! I guess I'll move my quest bar up to lunch and have another shake for dessert/snack. I really need some other alternatives besides shakes and bars...only 4 days in and I'm getting bored!

Was able to try it out last week (my old setup was 12 years old!) and it was absolutely fabulous. Getting a new ski jacket this morning as a birthday gift from my inlaws. It's going to be a great day!!

Looks like you are missing a packet today... And didn't someone else notice the same thing a day or so ago.

Be SURE you get three packets per day (2 unrestricted and 1 restricted)! And 2 cups veggies (not counting lettuce) at lunch and dinner. :carrot:

Wow! The scrambles eggs with grated cauliflower rice sounds like a great meal. I am having that tomorrow night.

Today's meals (Phase 1)
B: blueberry pancake, WF syrup, coffee
L: pink lemonade, salad w/dice red bell pepper, diced zucchini, napa cabbage, lettuce and diced up cucumbers & onions with a little of the liquid from those.
D: taco meat, artisan lettuce leaves, hot sauce and steamed broccoli
S: will have chocolate pudding later with a little WF chocolate syrup on top

Thanks for the tip! I normally love salads but without some of my favorite ingredients (avocado, chickpeas, feta cheese, olives) they're starting to get a bit bland. I'll have to try this! :carrot:

Hi Newbierm! Looks like you're missing a couple of cups of veggies there? I count 2 cups of zucchini and you should be getting 4 cups a day (not necessarily 4 cups of zucchini, but 4 cups of veggies a day total).

It was 4 cups raw, after cooking I put them in 1cup containers.

I also add zucchini, pickles, peppers, mushrooms - but don't always get 2-4 cups of these - primarily add them to the above-said salads. I know I need to strive for variety but the ease of the salad mixes is sometimes the best choice.

Is this ok or am I mis-reading the P1 veggie info? Thanks!

Lettuce is unlimited and should not be counted towards your 4C of veggies per day. Clinics vary on spinach and mixed/field greens. I don't eat mixed/field greens (too bitter) - my clinic recommends eating romaine as your lettuce. Regarding spinach, I was told that it counted as a veggie (so that is how I count it) - however I have seen others post on this forum that their clinics count spinach as a veggie.

Sorry not much help. I wouldn't use all your veggies as spinach/field greens (just my opinion), you need to get other veggies in too.

Lettuce that doesn't count is iceberg and romaine (that is the majority consensus, though some coaches do vary.) Use this "free" lettuce to bulk up your meals and fill you up (especially early in IP when more hungry). Also it has been noted that those that do eat 1-2 salads each day often have better losses (tho some do fine w/o them.) it also help keep thing moving yto avoid the Big C.

Field greens, etc and veggies added to salads count towards your 4 cups per day (measured raw.) Spinach is on the P1 sheet as a select veggie so it too counts (not sure why some coaches see it as free since it is clearly on the sheet with all the other allowed veggies that must be counted!)

S- The Simply Bar - Cinnamon Pecan
D- Homemade posole (Mexican pork soup recipe I have made for years that I love the flavors of, been making it without the hominy since going on IP last year but tonight I had a great idea to try putting it over cauliflower rice, but I processed the rice in my vita mix as I have seen on one video and didn't get it quite small enough for 'rice' but it was better because it was more like the hominy and was the right texture for it too!) 8oz pork, pepper stock, 1 c cauliflower, 1/2 c shredded cabbage, a sprinkle of cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime.

Spinach and field greens are clearly listed on the select veggie list. If your desire is to get your veggies this way, you are doing it right! If you want an additional salad, use a true lettuce (iceberg, romaine, Bibb, Boston)

D- Homemade posole (Mexican pork soup recipe I have made for years that I love the flavors of, been making it without the hominy since going on IP last year but tonight I had a great idea to try putting it over cauliflower rice, but I processed the rice in my vita mix as I have seen on one video and didn't get it quite small enough for 'rice' but it was better because it was more like the hominy and was the right texture for it too!) 8oz pork, pepper stock, 1 c cauliflower, 1/2 c shredded cabbage, a sprinkle of cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime.

That sounds delicious MntRose! I have to try it!

I have been struggling with the whole "diet" concept. My brain doesn't like only having shakes and a bar while I am at work and it seems like every night when the rest of the house is sleeping I am consuming everything in site.

I discussed it with my friend who has been successful on Ideal protein and I am going to attempt some smaller snack throughout the day. The concept is to keep the snack on "plan" so today I had celery sticks with 2 TBS of PB2 to dip them in. Gotta say it tasted just like peanut butter and for 45 cal and 3 grams of carbs I think it was a wise choice for me.:)

Lisa, your are correct-- veggies in the 2nd salad, although being home doing nothing I have been munching on cucumbers, I'll only add a cup to the dinner salad. I will also have a lemon wafer for dessert-- my favorite!

Why are you only having shakes and a bar while at work? You can have veggies, packets made into muffins or cookies, lettuce, pickles, etc. There are tons of really good recipes and you can add some of the veggies into the muffins or cookies or soups. Really bulks them up and keeps you full.

PB2 is not good for P1 - the fat content is way too high. You might try the WF peanut butter/spread.

There is more options you can take to work unless you are in a remote site with no micro or fridge...

I take steamer bags of broccoli or broccoli/cauliflorer and add to IP soup (I prefer the chicken or leek). You can cook IP chili or rotini with sautéed veggies at home and then reheat for lunch.

Maybe you would prefer the IP ridges/crisps(new) and a salad with Walden Farm dressing. Or make a veggie purée soup to have with them.

And it,s definitely a good option to have some of your veggies for snacks (mid morning or mid afternoon) and subtract from lunch cups.

Mix it up and spread it out and find how to make IP compliant choices that work for YOU,

Had a yummy lunch today guys!!! Super easy.

Potato purée spread into pan and cooked on both sides makes a yummy, super easy wrap! Spooned 2.6 oz of Tuna mixed with WF mayo and some salt & pepper and had myself a delicious tuna wrap! Add veggies to tuna if you like, I was already roasting some cauliflower. YUM YUM! Very satisfying!

2 days in a row of being on plan makes me happy. It is just a tiny goal but one I am proud of. Roasted some red peppers and poblano's tonight and made a spicy sauce. Used some on my left over shredded chicken for tacos and will use the rest as a dip for snack veggies this week. So far the worst part is the prepping in advance, and I can get a handle on that :)

Will have an extra packet (Pink lemonade or orange drink) if I'm still starving since this is more than 1 hour of exercise today, even tho it is light exercise.

D salad w/ chicken or else big mac in a bowl.

S: either a chocolate shake or a chocolate muffin. I don't quite have enough veggies left to put zucchini in the muffin tonite.

You know Lisa, I find the days I do PT I get super hungry and we're doing very, very basic light work right now (although we're doing 30-45 minutes). I've started bringing extra lettuce to the office to help. And sometimes a hard boiled egg.

Thanks! The only "packets" I have left are restricted and I already ate my Quest bar....any suggestions? Should I add more protein at dinner? Another 1/2 of a Quest bar?

A hard boiled egg or two for post workout snack would work. Stock up on some extra packets or shakes for future workouts so you get the protein boost. It,s best to try to have the extra within 30 mins after the workout but you still could grab an egg today!

Today I worked the dreaded noon till 9pm shift so I am making my dinner and bringing it along. It smells amazing. 8 oz of lean hamburger and then I an=m oven roasting some leeks garlic and turnips (hoping to turn them into some kind of a mash) this will be the meal I look forward to. The rest of the day it will be shakes and water :)

-Protei-diet BBQ soy nuts - Yuck, yuck, horrendous. Tastes like what I'd imagine cat food to taste like
-Protei-diet maple-brown sugar oatmeal - Pretty good, tastes like maple syrup. Texture is a little weird.
-Protei-diet creamy chicken soup mix - Awesome. Reordered it. Reminds me of the Campbell's chicken noodle I ate as a kid. Love to add broccoli and mushroom to it.

Waiting on:
-Protei-diet pancake mix
-Protei-thin broc n cheese soup
-Protei-thin cream of mushroom soup
-Protei-thin white cheddar crisps

It's great!! So different from other boot classes at my gym. It's so good to mix it up. My friend and I joke that it is much harder mentally than physically!! So many things to think about as you are trying to remember the right combinations of jabbing, crossing, hooking and uppercutting... my mind is tired at the end!! :)

How did you like the vanilla pudding? I had the IP vanilla and really didn't like it, I got a free sample of the protidiet and I'm a little hesitant to try it!

The pudding was good....I should have put it in the fridge to get even colder after mixing. The WF caramel dip ruined it for me though...it was a mix of sweet and chemically/acid tasting. Yuck! Such a disappointment since I like the WF dressings.

RuthAnn, I tried the pudding. Pretty good. I used Milk Choc, i'll have to try the dark choc.

B- Milk Choc pudding Mixed in coffee
L- 2 cups broccoli+ carmel nut bar(frozen!!)
D- 2 cups cabbage+4 hard boiled eggs
S- ready made pudding (frozen)

Don't know why i've been freezing stuff lately, maybe it lasts longer?!? lol. If you have a pudding, i recommend freezing it for a few hours. It's just so....good.

I'm going to try to start switching up the meal I have my restricted at...try to make it at breakfast/lunch and see if that affects my losses.

Ruth Ann, I was wondering why you're only eating 6oz at dinner? Is this just a personal choice or recc from you're coach? Do you think it's helping your losses? I'm wondering if I'm eating too much protein at night...Thanks!

My coach cut me down to 6 oz if I wanted when I lost about 75 lbs (I think). She said at my size and weight I would be fine only eating 6 oz at dinner if I was having problems getting 8 oz in. Some days I eat 8 oz - especially on days I do PT or if I'm especially hungry I'll add a hard boiled egg. I don't think it's effected my losses at all.
