Welcome! Whether you are doing the actual Tim Ferriss The Four-Hour Body Slow Carb Diet or a modified version, you are welcome to post your progress here!

I have not read The Four-Hour Body nor do I plan to since I'm happy doing a modified version of the Slow Carb Diet. However, there are others on this thread who have read the book or are in the process of reading it, so if you are following the book diet to a tee, they may be able to answer any book-specific questions you have and/or discuss book details with you. I learned about the Slow Carb Diet after reading an article about it on Huffington Post and then doing some research online. I'm so glad I decided to give it a try because it works for me!

I am carb-sensitive, and on the Slow Carb Diet, I never feel "starved" (as I always have while dieting in the past) because my blood sugar no longer spikes and drops daily. I also never feel deprived because this diet includes a cheat day when I can eat any foods I want. Also, I'm not much of an exerciser, but I try to walk for 20-30 minutes each day, and that's perfectly fine. Although exercise is recommended, it is not required. The Slow Carb Diet is not for everyone though. Some people don't do well going low-carb. Others don't do well having a cheat day. Everybody's different!

The gist of the Slow Carb Diet is: For 6 days of the week, eat lean (preferably organic) meats and fish/seafood, eggs, legumes, and non-starchy veggies. (Sugar-free Jello, 16 oz. of diet soda per day, and 1-2 glasses of red wine per day are also allowed.) On these 6 days, avoid breads/grains, dairy (except for cottage cheese), pasta, fruits (except for tomatoes and avocados), sweets, and starchy vegetables. The 7th day of the week (you choose the day) is a "cheat day," when you can eat anything at all as much as you want, including anything on the forbidden list. The cheat day is recommended to keep you from feeling deprived so you'll stay on the diet and to shake up your metabolism each week to keep it from stalling. Ferriss recommends eating 20 grams of protein with each meal, eating 30-60 minutes within waking up in the morning, eating the same meals over and over, having five low-carb days before taking a cheat day, and some other fine details, which I don't really know because I haven't read the book, lol!

I am a big believer in doing what works for you (as long as it DOES work), so modifying the diet to your own specifications is perfectly acceptable here! My personalized plan looks like this:

For 6 days of the week, I eat
--meat (and not necessarily lean or organic)
--fish
--legumes (including baked beans)
--eggs
--non-potato veggies
--veggie-like fruits (like tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, etc.)
--nuts and seeds in moderation (a handful)
--peanut butter in moderation (not natural, just regular Jif)
--cottage cheese
--black and green olives
--condiments and sauces (including ketchup and honey bbq sauce)
--full-fat salad dressings (usually ranch)
--a sprinkle of shredded cheese on my salads or omelets
--Sugar-free Jello
--breaded convenience/fast food meats like chicken tenders (It's too much trouble to try to peel the breading off, so I just allow it since I don't eat these foods very often.)

and I drink
--Six to eight 8 oz. glasses of water a day, often flavored with Mio Liquid Water Enhancer
--Diet Dr. Pepper
--Green tea, sweetened with Splenda

For these 6 days, I avoid
--breads and grains (including corn)
--pasta
--dairy (other than cottage cheese and a sprinkle of shredded cheese)
--fruits (except veggie-like fruits)
--potatoes
--sweets

I count no calories. I count no carbs. I count no grams. I don't eat within 30-60 minutes of waking up. I don't eat every 4 hours. I don't pay attention to numbers at all. I don't eat the same meals over and over. I eat when I'm hungry. I stop when I'm full, and I try not to eat late at night, although if I'm hungry, I will.

The 7th day of the week (I've chosen Saturday, although I'll move it for a special occasion) is Cheat Day! Woohoo! I eat WHATEVER I want as much as I want, but again, I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I do gain between .5 and 2.5 lbs the day after cheat day, but it's just water weight and it usually falls back off in the next couple of days while I continue to lose fat. It's all figured into the plan, so I don't worry about it.

A helpful site that will tell you if a food is allowed on the book diet is http://www.eslowcarbdiet.com/.

If you are interested in reading our 1st Slow Carb Diet thread, it is here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/other-reduced-carb-diets/285287-slow-carb-diet.html.

If you are already doing the Slow Carb Diet or if you want to give it a try, I hope you'll join us! Post as often or as little as you like. Weigh when you want to or don't weigh at all. Post your meals and exercise if you're so inclined or you don't have to. Good luck!

Thanks Jacqui It as got to be water/sodium, so we know it'll be gone in no time :) Jacqui you can close the other thread since you were the one that started it, under thread tools (didn't know if you knew that :). The moderators will if they catch it otherwise it will stay open like several others. I just close all of mine on my own (always weigh in threads of course :))

Missy you are really hard on yourself. I would love to be your weight but I do understand your frustration … It is more than like water we we don't gain weight that fast, you'll be fine  I weigh and measure unless I'm away form home. That's the only way I get accurate counts in MFP. If I create the dish I make a new recipe for me in MFP. :) Missy Midol, works for me during TOM. Helps with the bloating during that time for sure. I only need it the first day.

Pamela that was me and no you shouldn't count calories. I just wanted to know if you did what the count was but I can easily write it down and add it up in MFP :) Though not funny because you didn't sleep/rest well  I go to bed like that every night and I have yet to figure out why. I get in the bed I'm comfortable, then I get super cold by the middle of the night I'm hot and some morning I'm drenched … oh the body :) I bought one of each of the meals and they were a waste of my money. Each one was tasteless, yuck. I told my son I'll have to prepare those meals on my own, I don't do bland well at all. Now I do like Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones and Healthy Choice so it's just Atkins not flavorful at all and quite pricy :) Pamela say what you will we all one happy thread family  Pamela did you get to try the signature links out?

Gary, I eat a banana some mornings when the kids don't eat them :) … but I only buy the ones that are more green. I can't eat them ripe and I don't like them sweet (the smell makes me nauseous when they are ripe so the kids know I will toss them if they don't eat them, bitter works for me. :) The kids will eat them either way, though they prefer them ripe ;) :woohoo: 168, I'm so jealous  Look at you go :high:

Hi Calypso :wel3fc: and to the thread, hope you'll stick around with us. Great bunch here :)

I ate spinach, tilapia, spinach dip with EYV chips and I had the worse gas and bloating this afternoon. My stomach was so puffy by the time I got home it was crazy. I ended up stopping at Walmart for some gas relief medicine and picked up some Dulcolax. I'm not regular from the start and this was just plan uncomfortable so I needed relief. Feeling a little better but don't feel much like eating so my calories will be low today. Getting my water in though … hope I don't float away ;)

Rennie, no I didn't know about closing the thread. I just knew the mods would close it at 500 posts if they saw it. Thanks for the info! :D I have drunk my usual amounts of water and green tea today, so I feel good about that, but I still feel puffy as of right now. My fingers are stiff and my wedding rings are fitting more tightly tonight, so we'll see if I have any luck in taking this water weight back off by tomorrow. I'd blame this unexpected water gain on being pre-TOM, only I never know when TOM is going to begin anymore, lol, so I have no idea if that has anything to do with it! Wow, Rennie, you are looking at a 10-lb loss in less than 2 months! That's fantastic! And I agree, let's do join Gary in the 160's! :D

Rennie, I tried the Atkins Crustless Chicken Pot Pie (I had to get to Walsmart today), it was ok in taste, I had to add a bit of salt and lots of pepper, but it was a easy quick lunch for me.. and since I had my granddaughter last minute, it saved me.. she's a little spitfire and hard on my brain sometimes, so no cooking today for lunch was a good thing, LOL

By the way, she's 4.. My daughter (Demaree) is 23.. My Middle, Mara is going to be 17 (waaaaaaaa!!!!) and my baby Allison is 13 (another WAAAAAAAAAA!!!).

WOW, I don't think I ever really introduced myself!!!! I have 3 daughters, 4 cats, Snickers, Muffin, Ginger and Pooter and 1 husband, LOL I'm 50..

Oh, and I took a small nap after Mackinzie went home and now I"m fine, I'm not even really tired from not alot of sleep last night... which is GREAT!

Nope, I can't use a signature until 20 days, 20 posts.. so I think I'll wait until I can to get it going..

Ok, enough of my rambling... I didn't get any work done today, gotta check my work emails... tootles for now!

I want to join Gary in the 160s too!!!... But got a ways to go still. Did weigh in at 179.0 this morning, so still going in the right direction! :cp: WW weigh-in tomorrow night. Not that I'm nervous about it but I even clipped my toenails and shaved my legs this evening! :)

Weather has been beautiful here lately in Montana! Low 40s which is unseasonably warm. The snow is almost melted! So I got it in my head that it was perfect BBQ weather and grilled Brats and veggies tonight. Was so yummy!!! :). Snow coming in again tomorrow so glad I did it tonight. Grilled enough for leftovers too. I love to grill but am a fair-weather griller and don't enjoy it in cold or wet weather.

Who was it who asked about cottage cheese? Pamela? I do love cottage cheese with fruit, most especially pineapple, but since I'm trying to not eat much fruit on non-cheat days, I do also enjoy cottage cheese topped with some diced avocado, pico de gallo and/or salsa or Louisana/pepper Hot Sauce and salt & pepper. Mucho Yummy! But then, I love all things spicy! :)

Glad I found you all here. Thanks Jacqui for all you do! :)

Lol Pamela! Someone who has almost as many cats as I do! :) We have 5 cats and 2 dogs, all rescues and my husband has banned me from going to the Humane Society anymore! Hey, at least we don't have bunnies and fish anymore, however I do feed the birds and squirrels. :)

Jacqui, you'll go down again soon. As you've said many times, we all go up and down with water weight, and your swollen fingers are proof of that being the cause. It's the big picture, and that being the case, I think it is helpful for me to weigh myself most days so I can see the daily fluctuations. If I weigh myself only once a week, what if it's on one of my water-fat days and I missed one of my water-skinny days! :0

Good morning everyone. Thread number 2!!! Fantastic. i'm finding it hard to get my momentum going like `i had before Christmas hols. I refuse to give up. today is day one again of my reboot. I need to make the time to post everyday. the support here is the key to staying on plan. so yet again I'm starting over. My cheat day consisted of 5 days in a row. I will stop beating myself up over it. I'm having a protein shake at the moment. I have to get my kids up for school in a few minutes. My new plan is to drop them to school and then do 15 minutes on my cross trainer before I take my shower and get ready for work. It will be a squeeze but organization is the key. Everyone is doing great. I will post again this evening and tell how my new morning plan with exercise went.
BF. Chocolate protein shake with coffee, spinach, chia seeds, spinach and ice. A pint of water.
Lunch: Beef stew with turnip
snack: 3 baked chicken legs (eat throughout the day.
Dinner: Maybe a ham and egg salad. or another protein shake, or both.
lots of water and green tea.
Have a great day everyone. It feels good to be back on plan. It's definitely a lovely feeling to be planning a healthy eating plan. In work I have to make the effort to stay away from the coffee/cappucino machine and press the hot water button for green tea instead.

Pamela, glad you liked the Atkins meal. I don't add salt to anything but I love my pepper :). I didn't see a crustless pot pie, I'll have to look for that one. I am having a hard time finding things that I've tried that I like. None of the Walmarts or Food Lions sell the same things, not even the Kroger stores. It's like if you find something you like that's rare you need to buy all that they have (non-perishable) or you won't get it again. I'm 47 (48 in April) we have a married 20 yr old daughter (bday next month), boys 16, 15, 13 <-- (in March), and a 10 yr old girl. No pets. Good to formally meet you :)

Steph, nice to add a name to the :sun: SMILE :) ok car defrosted gotta go see you all later :)

Gotta really catch up later but TwoTots, Jacqui will give you the pep talk she gave me. I had back to back cheat days and was struggling like crazy and Jacqui (our momma hen) <-- if that's ok to say  steps in and rescued me … Jacqui, you're the best

Steps you can take each day to promote a detoxifying environment in the body. (no blender/ Juicer required)
Eat reasonable amounts. If you’re eating too much, you’re probably accumulating more toxins than your body needs. Eating one cookie instead of six is a detox diet. Slow down and chew your food. We all have “anatomical juicers”– our teeth and our stomachs. Use them.
Build your plate around plant foods. Veggies and fruits play a major role in a healthy body because they contain compounds that can help the body deal with all of the incoming chemicals.
Drink enough fluids, including water and tea. The kidneys are major organs of elimination: Keep them lean.
Allow time between dinner and breakfast. If you finished eating dinner at 7 pm, maybe you could eat breakfast at 7 am. This gives the body a 12-hour break from food for every 24-hour cycle. This might also improve your sleep, which is another critical factor in allowing your body to appropriately recover.
Get outside in the sun and fresh air each day. Not only do we synthesize vitamin D from the sun, but we can breathe fresh air into our lungs and hear the sounds of nature.
Exercise and sweat regularly. Our skin is a major elimination organ. Make it happen.
Limit unnecessary dietary supplements. Supplements don’t automatically equal health. And some might just be another burden for the body. Make sure each supplement in your cabinet serves a purpose.
Eliminate your problematic foods. This relates mostly to Step 1. If you just can’t seem to master the habit of one cookie, and you always end up eating six, maybe it’s time to restructure your relationship with cookies.

Good morning Everyone! I am down to 170 this morning so I shed one of those water weight lbs! :cp:

Week 27:
1/18: 168 Cheat Day
1/19: 170.5
1/20: 170
1/21: 171
1/22: 170
1/23:
1/24:

Today's Meals:
Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs, a teapot of green tea, Mio water
Lunch: tunafish salad on celery stalks, canned seasoned black beans, Mio water
Snack: a handful of walnuts, Diet Dr. Pepper
Dinner: Went out to eat at a buffet, so much food to choose from! I kept my portions small (especially on the Oriental food, just a couple of bites of each), but I still ate way more than I'm used to! I was stuffed! I had salmon, Oriental black pepper chicken, Oriental chicken in orange sauce, Oriental beef and peppers, green beans, brussel sprouts, cottage cheese, water with lemon

Today's Exercise:
Morning: Leslie Sansone 2-mile indoor walking video

Steph, CONGRATS on being 179!!! :yay: You are officially on your way to the 160's! :yay: And you are so right about water weight fluctuations! Weight goes up and down because of it, it's perfectly natural, and no matter what we do, no matter how much we exercise or how well we stay on plan, our weight is not going to go down and down and down with no stalls or water gains. Weight loss doesn't work like that, so there's no use getting upset. The big picture IS all that matters, and sometimes the journey involves a waiting game. I'm like you though. I like to weigh everyday. It's just easier for me to watch the fluctuations than not to know what's going on. I started this month at 172. Today I weigh 170. If I were weighing only once a week, I may not have realized that I've gotten as low as 167.5 this month. I might think I've only lost 2 lbs all month. Knowing I've gotten to 167.5 is important to me because, although everyone may not view it this way, I feel like that's my real weight. The rest of this is excess water weight. I haven't eaten enough for it to be anything but water weight, and once the water drops back off, and it will, I'll be back at my real weight. Knowing that keeps me from becoming frustrated and makes it easier to wait it out!

Pamela, I think your meals look good, except I might go with two eggs instead of 3 for breakfast, but then I don't think an extra egg is going to make or break you. I guess the only way to know for sure if you are eating the right amount is to see what the scales say when you weigh in! I'm glad to see you found an Atkins meal that you like. The good thing about Atkins is that those meals are going to be low-carb. :cp:

Rennie, CONGRATS on being in the 160's!!! :woohoo: Great job! I'm so proud of you! And you can certainly call me Momma Hen because that's definitely what I am, lol! :chicken:

TwoTots, you are the reason we have a support thread! I might have just kept talking to myself if it weren't for you, lol! :dizzy: So c'mon now girlie, get in the groove! Start posting with us! You're so right that posting helps keep you and all of us accountable! That's why I've started posting my exercise, because I haven't been good about keeping up with it lately. I look forward to hearing how your workout went! Your meal plan looks great, by the way!

Gary, I love the tidbits of information you post! Thank you! :thanks:

It's so good to see so many animal lovers on here! I have 3 spoiled cats and 3 sweet huge big dogs, lol! I am actually a cat person. Someday I'll be a crazy cat lady I have no doubt, lol! But I love my dogs too. They are so good and so loyal. They're mastiffs and as big as they are, they really are gentle giants. One is an English Mastiff and the other two are mixed English/German mastiffs, a brother and sister who were rescues. As for my cats, I have a black tuxedo cat, a white cat with black spots, and an all-black cat. My black cat is a sweet boy who showed up in October two years ago as an older kitten. The closer it got to Halloween, the more nervous I became for his safety, so I brought him in, and hey, once a cat is in, it's mine. It's very Hotel California around here, lol! :D

Good evening everyone. Thank you for the encouraging words. Nice one Jacqui!! Yes I remember we started this thread, I want to get back to that headspace. So, today went well. I managed to get home and do 15 mins on the cross trainer and then shower and get to work. I drank green tea, no coffee during the day, lots of water. I was hungry so I had a protein bar around 3 and some nuts at 4.30. My dinner was a chicken and egg salad with a spoonful of coleslaw, black olives, tomato and lettuce. I will have some more green tea before bed. I don't have the time to answer individuals. I'm going to hang out with my children (4yr old twins) for a while before their bedtime. I will read some more posts when they go to bed. Laters!!

TwoTots work and those machines are things that I stay away from also. There are so many and they take a card, smh. The coffee machine doesn't take a card but the small is a quarter and the large is fifty cents, not good ;) Good eats today but your calories just from what you said seem low. Jacqui just told us something about low calories and working out so be careful, I sure am trying :) 4 year old twins that's fun … two of our boys are 14 months apart and boy did I have fun with them :) though not the same, it was still everything double but that younger one was potty trained quickly ;)

Gary good advice … more stuff to put on the fridge :) If we lived in our old house I could dedicate a wall to health advice :) I'd love that :)

Pamela it's eyv :) … Eat Your Vegetables chips, here's the link snikiddy.com/type/eat-your-vegetables‎. When I eat them they don't leave me wanting more like regular chips. I think your meals look great, I'd take your menu for the day for sure. I use to eat 3 eggs but now I can barely handle two :) I guess that's a good thing. ;) Pamela, I bought these 88 cent chewables at Walmart. They did the trick today. My lunch gives me gas most days so something had to be done. Can't just pass gas at work, Sorry if TMI but the chewables worked today ;)

Thanks Jacqui, you just put everything into perspective ---> Knowing I've gotten to 167.5 is important to me because, although everyone may not view it this way, I feel like that's my real weight. The rest of this is excess water weight. <--- I have never thought about it like this, thank you

Pamela and Jacqui I don't know if affects the scale but it sure does have an affect on me ;)

A girl at work that was doing the Daniel fast for 21 days just started eating yesterday. She had chili, cheese fries. She said she had been wanting them the whole time we've been in training because everyone kept buying them. I have until February 2nd. Jacqui I have our conversation posted so I know what to do. :) I am actually wondering what I will eat on that day and how it will affect my weight. I think maybe I should add one thing in at a time, though honestly I don't have a problem with the way I am eating now, other than getting all of my calories in some days. … this is just me thinking in print because the girl at work is very very thin, I clearly am not … so her offering me fries and the diabetic guy beside me eating a bag of cheddar crackers is more than I want to deal with … ok thinking in print done :)

oh and I think we all need to get some beano or something of the like … it sure can't hurt :)

I'm gonna post the chart below until 1/28 hoping that I see 168.2 by then :crossed:

12/08 weight 178.2
12/27 weight 180.4
01/08 weight 173.4
01/27 weight ???.?

Rennie,

Thanks for that link.. those looks really good.. so they just count as a veggie? Looks like a store in Fresno carries them, I'll have to go next trip there...

What were those .88 chewables you bought? Brand, etc.. They are for gas, right? I think I need them really bad by tomorrow, LOL

I also keep burping? I'm not starving, so it's not like I'm inhaling my food, I'm taking my time, so what's up with the burping, LOL

Jacqui, I am going to weigh on Saturday morning, before I start Faturday.. lol I don't even know if I should.. I'm scared that I didn't loose anything.. but we shall see.. I think I'll go to 2 eggs in the morning then.. I can deal.. it's like I'm cheating just eating the eggs anyways.. so.. LOL

Goodnight everyone!

Good morning everyone. I've no time to exercise this morning. My car is in being serviced so I have to rely on a lift to work which shortens my available time for exercising. My plan today..
BF: proteinn, spinach, coffee, chia seed shake
Lunch: My school offers hot lunches so today is pork tenderloin and green beans, no spuds
Snack: some chicken strips
Dinner: Not sure maybe the ham and egg salad
I'm working late so I have some monkey nuts and a protein bar to keep me from snacking on carbs from the vending machine or trays of cookies that people leave in the staff room. Have a good day everyone. i will post my weight when I reach my ticker weight. I refuse to change it. A couple of days should get me back there.

love2b150
01-23-2014, 07:49 AM
Pamela, I count them as a vegetable because they are made with beans and something else but not regular flour. Since they don't make me want more I think that may be why. I only eat them with spinach dip (Food Lion brand) it has a lot of spinach and the numbers aren't bad for a serving. I count everything, I can't break the habit. The gas relief, is by DR CHOICE, Gas Relief (the container says compare to Mylanta Gas Active Ingredients) I didn't compare it I just saw the price and said if it doesn't work then I haven't lost much. But they work. LOL, I'd much rather burp than pass gas :D. I have only noticed the burps when I eat cold egg salad. It's really bad so I heat it a little before eating it and the reflux isn't as bad.

TwoTots you day sounds well planned out :) I hear you on the ticker. I hate to change mine. It seems like when I do the weight just goes crazy :dizzy:

well I knew my 6 wouldn't stick just yet. I hadn't earned it for real, it was just a much needed trip to the bathroom. I am up .6 to 170.4, which is still good. But I think I'll be in the 160's by Monday if I can get to the gym every day :)

Have a good day Everyone … Keep smiling

I am behind again and have some catching up to do with my friends on our thread! I took off work yesterday and wasn't online at all.

But a quick note as I'm trying to catch up..... Steph, I like cottage cheese as well and haven't been having any since fruit is not allowed on the diet. But your recipe with avocado, salsa and hot sauce sounds delish! I'm going to try that soon. :hun:

Good news! I'm down to 148.8 this morning. :carrot: Couple of days ago I was at 152.2. Just goes to show how water weight affects us, and how not being at home and access to the SlimQuick for a couple of days threw me off as well. So now I'm about a 1/2 pound lighter than the morning I weighed in on my Saturday cheat day. My Thur goal was to be 147, but I'm going to take this. As long as I'm making some progress. Hoping by Saturday morning before cheat evening I'll weigh close to that.

Gotta catch up with everyone else in a few after I catch up with work e-mails.

Ok I caught up on the recent posts.

Pamela I was feeling really bloated and gassy due to the beans. I did a lot of reading on the subject and tried everything from canned vs. soaked, etc. I finally had to just cut down on them, and I think my body has adjusted a bit too. They are great because all of the fibre makes you feel nice and full. I don't think they'll affect the scale. But even Tim Ferriss has said that you may need to play around with your diet at times. So if you don't lose weight, maybe do what you have planned and cut back on some things, like number of eggs. I thought that sounded like a good plan, and your food log looks great to me!

Jacqui very good point regarding the true weight vs water weight. I am so anxious that I may be making some inadvertent mistake, but I think you are on to something.

Rennie your progress this past month is awesome! I remember when you needed that pep talk, and you have been doing so well since then! Well done you!

Twotots you will get there. It is so hard to get into the diet rhythm. Giving up our comfort foods and finding time and energy for exercise…. But once you start you will start feeling better and have more energy (that is how I motivate myself when I am finding it challenging).

Gary very good words to live by! By the way, I've picked up your modification to also count and restrict calories and I think that is what is working best for me. Slow carb and clean eating foods, in moderation. And exercise of course...makes me feel better this time of year anyway.

Rennie, thanks for that.. I have it on my list for my next WalsMart trip! You are right, burping is better than farting, LMBO I'll take it! I need those chips, sounds so good with spinach dip!

Missy, yeah, the first few days I ate canned refried with no troubles, then I made a big ole slow cooker pot of pinto beans and am tooting like crazy, lol

Ok, I gotta run today.. I have to think if this weekend is a good weekend to get away with the family.. hubby wants to take a day trip to the coast and I'm not sure it's the best time with me just starting the diet, however, it would be Faturday, so it may not be such a big deal as I'm making it.. we really do need to get out of town.

My Meals 1/22/14:

Before Breakfast - Brocolli w/butter before getting my girls to school, was so hungry, felt nauseous
B - 3 Scrambled eggs with onions and 1/2 c pinto beans, sprinkle of cheese, coffee with sugar free creamer
L - Leftover Steak (4 oz) salad with ranch/italian dressing mix (1 1/2 tbsp)
S - 1/2 c Nuts - too many of them :(
D - 1 Pork chop with 1 tbsp ranch dressing, brocolli with butter
S - Pork rines
Right before bed: 1 tbsp natural peanut butter

Water / Tea - maybe 32 oz or less.. didn't do well on water

Pamela I remember reading that refried beans produce less gas, and found the article! It's mentioned on the second page, last paragraph.

Missy, yay on being 148.8 today! Keep going! :trampo:

Rennie, that little bump up is just water. Your real weight is in the 160's! :D I'm not worried about the choices you'll make once Feb. 2nd rolls around. I have no doubt, you got this! :dancer:

TwoTots, yay on taking the protein bar to stay away from the vending machine! :cp: Your meals look good! And I don't blame you for not wanting to move the ticker up. I never do. With as much as our weights are going to bounce around with a cheat day built into our diet, there's no point. Plus, it's extra motivation to get back to that (real) weight as quickly as possible!

Pamela, I say take your family day, take your Faturday, enjoy yourself, and just be ready to crack down on Sunday!

Today, I am down a half-lb to 169.5! :cb: I had a really big dinner last night so I am fortunate to have dropped back down into the 160's at all! We went out with friends last night to a really nice buffet, and although I stayed on plan, it was just more food than I'm used to having. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I was so full! Needless to say, I was really surprised to have dropped instead of gained! :cp:

Pamela, I noticed that only one Walmart here sells them so I don't know what I'll do when I can't find them. I buy the sour cream flavor. They have a bunch of the bags of the sea salt flavor but my Auntie said she finds sea salt saltier than regular. I have never tried it so I don't know and I don't want to spend $3 on a bag and not eat them :dizzy: I ate my spinach today and chewed two of those tabs and no gas, :yay: ME. LOL Pamela on the tooting :) that really made me laugh out loud ;)

Thanks Jacqui :) Yay on getting back to the 160's :high:

TGIF! Good morning fellow slow carbers. I am in Europe, the Netherlands so Im on a totally different time frame than yourselves. I'm just up having my proteinshake and planning my day. I get up and put my work out clothes on as soon as. When I come back from bringing my children to school I have an hour and half before I need to be in work so that's my time to do a little exercise and then get myself ready for work. I plan on using my cross trainer agin today. The hardest time of my day is when the children are in bed and I settle down to watch some tv. Last night I found myself fighting with myself while I was prowling around my kitchen wanting to snack. I need to plan a bit better for this time of the day. I should look out for some of the vegetable chips that I've seen mentioned on the thread. Eating in front of the tv is a big time habit I need to break. I'm thinking of maybe having a protein shake at this time it's a large drink and is on plan. It's too easy to let my food demons win and "just a little taste" mentality take over. Because it's never just a little taste!!! I'm skipping cheat day this week because I had many cheat days last week. I think I do as Gary did and skip them for a few weeks. Easier said than done, I really look forward to cheat day but last week cheat day lasted for 4 cheat days. I think I need to get into my diet groove before I allow myself a bit of food freedom. Maybe instead of cheat day I will make a large batch of roasted chicken legs and cheat with these types of foods. I have to plan better for next week, planning on making a large chili this weekend maybe some guacamole, some hummus and carrot sticks. Having those types of foods in the fridge makes snacking more forgiving. No plans this weekend. We are having a mild winter, it's cold and lashing rain but no big freeze yet. Having to scrape the car, defrost the windshield and bundle up the kids can turn my morning routine into a rushed madness. Have a great day everyone I will catch up with you all again later.

BF: Protein, chia seed, spinach coffee shake
Lunch:Chicken gyros and salad (work canteen)
Dinner: ? maybe an omlette with ham and mushrooms
snack: protein bar, some nuts
Maybe an extra protein shake in the evening.
Exercise: 15 mins on the cross trainer

TwoTots, I won't be having cheat days until after Feb 2nd, and my plan is the same as yours with the exception of a low carb tortilla shell, low carb bread, wild rice and I may try a sweet potato. I don't know about the pasta but I think I may try to see how gluten free works next month also. I'm with you on scraping the window and heating up the vehicle. It does make for a rushed morning :) Have a great day :)

QUESTION When you all make your chili, do you add your own seasonings or do you use the low sodium McCormick season pack? I find that even though it says low sodium, when you add it up on MFP a serving still has a high sodium count.

Well no 160's but I am at 170 even down .4 from yesterday. I changed my ticker and when I get to 169 and it actually sticks around for a couple of days I'll change the next one to my next mini goal of 165. The 169 is what I had hoped to be by Valentine's Day so I'll have to change it :yay:

Have a Positively On Point day Everyone

Missy, thanks for the bean information.. I'm doing almost everything they suggest.. it's probably just my body getting used to this big change I've made.. but I will buy those chewables..

Rennie, wow, I'll have to check my next WalsMart trip.. I don't know if I've ever seen them, but then again, I haven't actually LOOKED for them.. so I could get lucky.. I hope so!

Rennie, the chili I make is loaded in soduim becuase of all the cans of stuff I put in them..

Jacqui, yep, unless something comes up, we are going! The girls are going to be so happy! :carrot:

Question: Protein Shakes.. what kind and where do I get them.. I agree with TwoTots that eating in front of the TV at night is a habbit.. it was always a bag of WW popcorn, so I need something crunchy in place of that OR a protein shake would be helpful...

My Meals 1/23/14:

B - 2 Fried Eggs, 3 Turkey Sausage, 1/2 c beans and sprinkle of cheese, coffee and sf creamer
L - 1 Pork Chop w/Italian Dressing, Brocolli with Butter
S - 5 Slices of Salami (serving) and a piece of string cheese
D - 1 Pan Grilled Chicken Breast with ranch as dipping sauce, green beans with butter
S - Cherry jello with spray whipped topping, 1/2 cup of coffee, well, more like 1/4 cup.. I should have never made it, bad habbit!

Water / Tea - approx 32 oz

Hi all,
Well I was down 1 pound at WW. Not as much as I would have liked, or would have lost on IP, but I get to eat real food so I'll take it. I'm wondering if I should have my cheat day today like I normally would. After our WW meeting on Wed, my daughter was really thinking Arby's so I ended up getting a pound of roast beef and we split an order of moz sticks on the way home, then had the roast beef on a WW approved diet English Muffin with Arby's sauce and now I'm up a 1lb and a half. :( So yeah, even though it was only I meal, I think that was my cheat day. We'll see. I hate cooking Fridays, and after shopping, and I have to brave Walmart after work.

TGIF everyone!

(Hey, I finally got a ticker! )

pamela631
01-24-2014, 10:15 AM
Sunlover, you sound like me on shopping days... I hate cooking and would always pickup a pizza at Papa Murphys for the girls.. maybe a Atkins frozen meal for me on those days or leftovers... but I know how you feel.. after all that shopping, who wants to COOK? lol

Missy123
01-24-2014, 10:51 AM
TGIF all! I hear ya on not wanting to shop or cook today. I think because it is so cold outside I am even less motivated to shop, and unfortunately I am just running out of some of my staples. I think in meantime for my snack today since I'm teleworking I'll make some hummus as I have low sodium chickpeas. Hummus I read in that article is another way to get beans with less gas.

Pamela I make my own protein shake, and have it as soon as I wake up. I make it with almond milk, a zero carb vanilla protein powder, and just a few blueberries. But you can also buy a very low carb pre-made protein shake called Pure Protein from the grocery stores and wallgreens (at least in my area).

I lost another pound! So that is nearly 5 pds this week. I am hungry, but my morning snack and lunch will satisfy that. What I've been doing this week is taking the SlimQuick, but also keeping carb count to less than 100g, and keeping carb count really low for dinner and not eating anything after dinner. Also I'm working out nearly daily. Always a cardio and some weight training. Seems to all be working!

Rennie or anyone else eating or wanting to eat those Eat Your Veggies chips.. I went to Dollar Tree and they have 2 different ones.. different brands, but I tasted both, and wow.. I must say, these are very good and will help with that CRUNCH that I want.. AND, I'm taking these on our trip tomorrow.. even though its Faturday, no reason to not eat these, they are really good.. I need to go back and buy more..

BUT FIRST.. I want to make sure.. Rennie, can you make sure these are ok in comparison to what you eat:

Sensibly Natural Veggie Chips: 18 g carb, 1 fiber, 1 sugar per serving, 130 cal, 6 g fat

Good Health Natural Foods Veggie Stix: 20 g carb, 0 fiber, 0 sugar, 130 cal, 5 g fat

Thanks Rennie..

TwoTots, I think it's smart that you are planning meals and snacks ahead of time. And you are so right--just a little taste, never is! It always turns into something more because carbs stimulate the appetite.

hello how is everyone, just waking up from 4-5 hour post colonoscopy nap, had kind of a rough time, woke up at 1am with a migraine from prep, which didn't go away, then this morning at hospital my pulse was 137, which of course had everyone concerned, very strange, I seem ok now though, normally my pulse is in the 60's, Everything seems back to n still trying to get re-fueled and re-charged.

Pamela, I use the Atkins shakes when I am pressed for time or the Body Fortress Whey Protein powder at Walmart. I use soy milk and usually one of the low carb yogurts from Kroger if I have them. (Kroger is the only store that I know of that have a low carb yogurt and they are very good.) I'll also use frozen peaches. I add spinach to my smoothies it makes them look like puke but doesn't change the flavor at all. :) Pamela I use to eat the veggie chips at Dollar Tree (the whole bag in one sitting) but they are made with enriched flour with other additives which I think brings on the cravings. The EYV chips are made with a blend of beans (navy, red and black), brown and white rice, sunflower oil, non-GMO canola oil, vegetable blend of carrot, sweet potato, kale, knojac, spinach, broccoli, tomato, beet, shitake, and mushroom, so when I eat the serving I am done. I also like that I can pronounce and recognize everything in them. I'm not sure why that is starting to matter to me but it is.

Serving sz 13 chips
calories 130
fat 7g
sodium 140mg
carbs 16g
fiber 3g
sugar 2g
protein 3g

Give them a shot and see which ones you like better. Those veggie sticks remind me of cheddar fries, not good for me mentally at all. I just see green, light yellow and orange cheddar fries and they keep me wanting more. :D

Steph :yay: on the ticker and the pound, :high: the 1.5 up is water so no worries there. You're doing great :)

Missy way to go on the pound :high: and :bravo: on the 5lbs GONE :) What is the name of the protein powder you use? Is it expensive? I could sure use that kind :) the Walmart brand is only $16. I checked some of the other shakes and the sugar content was crazy. I'll have to look up the pure protein and compare, thanks for the info. Missy I forget about the red pepper even though I eat the red pepper hummus, silly huh  I love hummus, it's the perfect snack in my opinion :)

Gary I'm sorry I just remembered after reading your post about the colonoscopy. Glad your pulse is back to normal, hope you're feeling back to the norm soon . Nice weigh in :)

Jacqui it's all we can do to stay sane on this journey ;)

I want something to eat but don't know what and don't want to eat the wrong thing. We are getting down to the knitty gritty here with food so next week may be a struggle. I was wanting to start 30DS but I'm not sure how to track the burn on MFP and I really would like to know what the burn is for it. I can do a WATP but sometimes Nike+ doesn't count all of the steps so I don't know but I'm gonna do something before this evening is over. Not gonna do 30DS those jumping jacks kill my knees and I can't do push ups so Wii fit or WATP it is :D

Oh Gary, I forgot about your colonoscopy! I don't know how I could forget that in two days time! I am so sorry that you had a migraine and a bit of a scare with your high pulse. I'm glad you are better now, and I hope you feel well!

Steph, congrats on the ticker! How fun! :carrot:

Missy, red bell pepper and cucumber with hummus, yum! I also love yellow and orange bell peppers, which are also sweet. :T

Pamela, sometimes I snack at night, but usually I keep from snacking in front of the tv by having my laptop on my lap and reading and typing on 3FC at the same time, lol! :D

Rennie, I hear you :listen: on the ingredients you can pronounce. I've gotten more that way too. I think we were raised during the time of the processed food, and we've just had enough. There are just so many chemicals our bodies can take!

I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not but I was talking with my Mom yesterday and I thought she was coming down this week but they changed plans due to bad weather I guess. I told her that I had lost 20lbs since joining the gym and she replied, "wow you are skinny!" I said no not yet but trimming down. I asked her when she thought they may plan to come down again, she said the next holiday. So by the next holiday I want to be 10lbs down. With that said, I am on a mission people. :D The focus has to remain :)

Thank you Gary, I hope you're back on your feet soon!
Lovetobe, your Mam will get a great surprise when she visits. What a great incentive.

I love Saturday mornings. No rushing out of the house. I surprised myself by jumping on the cross trainer before my shower, I hadn't really planned to. I'm making a list for the supermarket, I want to make sue I have snack worthy foods in the fridge, hummus, guacamole, carrot sticks, peppers, I fancy some dipping foods. My crockpot has beed going since yesterday morning. I made a beef and bean chili, I got six portions and added some vegetables for easy lunches and dinners. Now there is a lump of ham in the crockpot and tonight I have some pork to go in for pulled pork. Meat we have!!! I will make some egg salad and vegetables over the weekend to eat with all the meat. Happy Saturday everyone. Good luck.

Gary hope you feel better and that migraine is gone. They are horrible!

Rennie, the brand of protein powder I've gotten from my grocery store is a Generic "Fitness Whey protein" vanilla flavored, since I like a few berries in mine. I also have the chocolate, but don't use it that often. You can also buy the pre-made "Pure Protein" that is in single sized tin bottles. 4 of those will average about $7.99. Last night my boyfriend said he can buy a larger container of the protein powder at GNC though. He said it's $30, but provides 100 servings.

I weigh the same today. Was feeling run down yesterday and didn't excercise. Thought I should take care of my body in case I was fighting a cold, and glad I did.

But....TODAY IS CHEAT DAY! I think the day before cheat day is the hardest?

I also signed up for a DietBet that is to start on Monday and end the day before leaving for Vaca. I have done a couple in the past. Check out the web site (dietbet.com). Studies show that if you join this sort of social diet betting network you have more success with weight loss.

I am disappointed.. up .2 instead of down any..

Not sure if I should even have a cheat day.. but I gotta get off here and finish getting ready to leave.. we are taking the girls to Monterey Bay Aquarium today.. I called my oldest to ask her to come and check on my kitties today sometime and she and her little family are going there too.. what a coincidence!! So we are all going to have fun today.. kitties will have to stay outside all day.. no problems, they will have their food and they have their outside cat beds.. just not a warm and cozy spot next to me, LOL They are indoor/outdoor cats.. so they will be just fine :) Pooter will think differently and may hate me when we get back... but she'll get over it.. lol

My Meals 1/24/14:

B - 2 Fried Eggs, 1/2 c beans and sprinkle of cheese, coffee and sf creamer

D - Chicken and Beans with Cheese
S - Pork Rines

Gary, How are you feeling this morning?

Jacqui, I think the chemicals and stuff that they are using to enhance the food is definitely what is causing most of the issues that people have. That and the fact that eveything is more convenient then it use to be so makes for laziness.

TwoTots, she will for sure. My Mom is super super thin. So in her eyes just about everyone is overweight. I shouldn't have said anything. I should have just let her come down and see if she noticed. Which she probably wouldn't have, then I would have been disappointed. But her husband would have paid compliment he always notices even before my husband comments (weird). Wow you are on a roll with the foods for the week good for you :high: I have to pick and choose this week so I've got to be careful :crossed: for good decisions here :)

Missy, couldn't find one that read Fitness Whey Protein, but did find that Walmart has a Whey Isolate protein powder for $22 … I may buy that on pay day and my son can use the other one. :) He doesn't care about carbs :) Pure Protein is also $22 at Walmart so I'll check for that one also and compare the ingredients. Thanks :)

Pamela, it is definitely water, don't let it deter you or get you down  I was reading in the 4-Hour Body to eat a good slow carb breakfast on cheat day and then enjoy lunch and dinner. That's a thought :) I feel like I had a cheat breakfast. I had 2 eggs cooked in spray butter and a ⅓ of a Jenny O turkey sausage pattie (I made) I can't eat 4oz of sausage and two eggs, that's a lot, whew :) Pamela it's great that your family will be all together today, what a blessing :).

OK regarding 30DS … I did a total of 23 jumping jacks and the warm up exercises with Jillian then I was done. I remembered why I never committed to doing 30DS. I can't do jumping jacks and push ups back to back with those squats and weights my knees hurt. I do however want to get in the habit of doing jumping jacks for some reason. :) My daughter and I did Just Dance 2 and I entered it into MFP as 30 minutes of dancing and earned 173 calories so I'll take it. I broke a sweat for sure and the heart rate was up since I am definitely not a dancer ;)

This mornings weigh in 169.6 down .4. I'm feeling good about my mini workout last night, and I had fun. When I'd get winded my daughter would say, Don't stop, keep going! She's so cute :)

Good Morning. Everyone! I'm sorry I didn't make it online yesterday. It started with my internet being down and after that it was just kind of nice spending the day away from the computer. :D Anyway, I don't know what is going on with my body right now! Yesterday I woke up weighing 171! Needless to say, I was quite surprised to be up 2 lbs, especially since I had been on my way back down! Today, I woke up weighing 173.5! :dizzy: That's a 2.5 lb-gain, which is not unusual for the day after cheat day, but that's up almost 4.5 lbs since Friday and I weigh more than when I started the month! I'm holding water like crazy for some reason. Being 52, my hormones are unpredictable and I'm thinking that has to be related, so I'll drink a lot of water today, but at this point I don't know if drinking water will do it or not. I think my body is just doing its own thing right now. I'll just have to wait it out!

Week 28:
1/25: 171 Cheat Day
1/26: 173.5

Today's Meals:
Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs, a teapot of green tea, Mio water
Lunch: veggie salad with rotisserie chicken, walnuts, sunflower seeds, and ranch dressing, Mio water
Snack: a handful of almonds, a Diet Dr. Pepper
Dinner: crockpot meatballs in bbq sauce, Mio water, a teapot of green tea

Gary, I'm so glad you are feeling better! :cp:

Pamela, I hope you had a wonderful day out with your family yesterday! :sunny:

Rennie, you can do it! The way you've been going, I know you can lose 10 more lbs by then! :cheer: Your Mom is going to be so surprised! And great job on the workout! :high:

TwoTots, it looks like you had a relaxing and productive Saturday! Good for you! :cb:

Missy, I hope you had a wonderful cheat day! :hungry:

Steph, Joe, Dt, hope you're having a great weekend!

Hi all!
Good for you Rennie for exercising! My Mom and sister got me a gym membership for Christmas because I keep talking about exercising but am so exhausted after being on my feet all day at work Mon - Fri that I keep putting it off. On weekends I do housework and kitchen prep for the week. I got a fitbit flex last Jan and have gotten increasingly better at logging at least 10,000 steps. At first it was hard and I could only get about 7,000, but now I almost always log in more than 10,000. But since I've lost 22 lbs since Oct, I feel kinda jiggly, especially the arms, and since I have the membership just sitting there waiting, it's pretty stupid not to use it. Plus, my sister keeps asking me to play racketball with her and we've been pretty fierce competitors since our younger years. I haven't played in about a year and a half, and we were pretty even then, but I had to work a lot harder for it, but she has kept up playing so will probably kick my butt for awhile! Anyway, my goal this week is to get my butt to the gym, even if it's only on the bike for awhile.

Jacqui- 52 yr old hormones are like that! My weight will spike sometimes 3-4 lbs with seemingly no reason, (haven't had TOM for 10 years now!), then will go back down to normal. Maybe salty food/ water weight combo, I don't know. It can be unnerving through, and you know you will go down again. One morning soon you'll wake up, get on that scale and be so happy because you'll realize the Whooosh Fairy finally paid you that overdue visit! :)

Thanks Jacqui, sorry about the computer issues. My son is backing up mine as we speak. I'm not very computer savvy and that boy is a genius in my opinion he can do anything with the help of google. Maybe I'm just too lazy :) Wow sorry about the up. 52 or 47 my body has it's moments also. The closer I get to 48 the weirder it gets. I never know when TOM is coming, if it does come and then whether or not it's gonna stay. And to be this age and still have cramps sometimes is just awful. Hopefully we won't have many more years of this ... I'm hoping :crossed: I've heard these night sweats never really stop, not what I wanted to hear. :) Jacqui one of the ministers spoke about this being the last week of our consecration. He said we don't have to stop we can continue on and continue praying as we should be doing anyway. I like the sound of that and it's good for the body and soul, which puts me in line with the post I printed and placed on of my refrigerator. :) I was reading on another thread or two how one lady is just happy she'll be able to wear a two piece bathing suit for the first time (I have never liked them so will never do that) and another lady was saying how she can't wait to wear new clothes with her new body. I am looking forward to being around 150 by spring that sounds so exciting and hopefully the 130's by the end of summer. This has noting to do with nothing I'm just talking so I'll stop :)

Steph, :congrat: on the 22lbs gone :high: I know you feel good. :) I loss 30lbs in 2010, started 6/1/10 at 195.4 and on 9/24/10 I weighed in at 165. I walked 5-6 days a week and toned up pretty well. I was shocked the first time I felt my ribs :) The gym will definitely help with any jiggle. I am needing to get with my son to help me tone the belly and back. I wore my boots to church and the last time I had them on I couldn't wait to take them off they were killing my calves, not today. I actually have a little room :)

and Jacqui what Steph said ---> and you know you will go down again. One morning soon you'll wake up, get on that scale and be so happy because you'll realize the Whooosh Fairy finally paid you that overdue visit! :)

today has been a really interesting day ... we had a bit going on here and I woke up at 5:25 this morning. I thought ok it's not Monday-Friday so I'll just lay here and go back to sleep for a little while but my head was in a whirl. I have since worked out a few kinks that will get us prayerfully through this week but my goodness I wish it was as easy as said to just leave it there. With all that said I had an interesting day food wise. I have felt full most of the day though I have had little to eat. So tomorrow will be interesting and even more interesting on Tuesday morning with the up on the scale :dizzy:

I know I'm all over the place today :dizzy:

Oh yeah- I have a whole lot of giggle on the tummy and back too! I can just see my arms better in the medicine cabinet mirror!!!

Been prepping meats and cutting veggies all day. Made 2 dips for veggies with Greek yogurt as a base- 1 French onion and 1 Mexican/ salsa. Both yum!

When needing a crunch snack and peppers won't do, (although they are delicious and I will eat them if I already have them cut and ready), try the Proti-thin chips that you can buy online. They are like Ideal Protein products being low in carbs and high in protein, usually made from a pea protein, but they are much cheaper than IP products. Also good are Simply 7 Sour Cream & Onion Quinoa Chips which I also buy online. It's hard to buy these type of specialty products in MT. Of course, veggies are better for you, but sometimes, like when we go to the movies and everyone else is having buttered movie popcorn, (the worst!!!) I will sneak a bag of the white cheddar IP or Proti-thin chips ( curls) and it satisfies that craving - AND is extremely filling for a small amount because of the high protein content. But, of course, if you can just do the veggies, then that is better than any Franken-food. But then again, sometimes only a Franken-food will do! (Sad, but true.) Moral of the story is... Prep your veggies so they are ready when you are having a snack attack... but have some low carb hi protein options when the veggies are just not sellin' it! :)

Good job on the excercise Rennie!!! Just Dance is also such a fun bonding thing to do with your daughter. I remember when mine were younger we used to do that. Good for you! :cheer2:

Oh Jacqui you must be frustrated, but sounds like you are handling it well for sure. I'm sure you'll have a wooosh loss of water loss soon!! :goodluck:

Bravo Steph for prepping some fresh veggies. I need to do that this evening I think for the week. So good for you! :carrot:

Ugh...I had a very decadent cheat day yesterday and weighed in at 3 1/2 pounds heavier this morning! We did have a really salty order of Pad Thai last night before bed so I'm sure I retained extra water. But today was not a good diet day as well. I think when we have our cheat day and we have cocktails, I don't feel so well the next day and make bad decisions. I've decided today to not have any cocktails even next weekend during the super bowl party, which is my next scheduled cheat day. Trying to not beat myself up too much. Best to recognize why the mistakes and take measures to correct them. :dunno:

I also signed up for another Dietbet today that will end the weekend before I leave for the Carribean.

Thanks Missy :) ... 3.5lbs sodium is such a booger. I try my best to avoid it during the evening. I just read on webMD that we shouldn't have more than 1500mg a day and MFP is set at 2500mg. I've got to keep an eye on that. I also read that too much protein isn't good for diabetics we should get more veggies than anything (Jacqui I think you mentioned that :)) Missy water weight goes away so just think of the nice number you'll see on the scale soon :)

Yes, anyone can buy the IP or Proti-thin snacks online. I usually just buy from amazon but others say you can find them cheaper. IMO: white cheddar is best overall , ( and the Simple 7 Sour Cream & Onion Quinoa Chips!!!- they are new to me and so delicious!!!), followed by the IP Southwest Cheese Curls, (like spicy Cheetos), and the Proti-thin Chipotle, (which are good with salsa!) There is another brand called Simple Protein Chips which some like but I don't especially care for. They tend to have a very strong garlic after taste and sugar on them which I find strange, especially for a low carb product. I also like the WW Popped Sour Cream and Onion and the Chili Lime multigrain Crisps are ok, but both are higher in carbs and not nearly as high in protein. That's what makes the IP and Proti-thin products good is that it satisfies the snack attack with small quantities, (in pre-portioned bags), because the high protein content makes you feel full. Only 1 bag allowed per day but that's all I seem to need. Be aware that the IP products are much more expensive than Proti-thin, and some sites offer free shipping if you buy more than $75, but I usually don't buy so much. A little goes a long way with me.

As for the recipes- I am so bad about writing anything down! I'm trying to get better but I basically just throw stuff in until it taste right. For French onion, I found I had a package of onion soup mix and mixed that in with Greek yogurt, then added garlic salt, green onions and more onion powder and dried onions until it tasted right. Probably has too much sodium and will make me retain water, but it is very good with celery sticks, cauliflower, carrots and bell peppers so figure at least I'm getting my veggies in! Also made a pico de gallo with tomatoes, jalapeño peppers, green chilies, onions, lime juice, garlic powder, chili powder and Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning- which I LOVE!!! - and then mixed some with yogurt and salsa for a dip. Still have much pico de gallo left for taco salads, etc during the week. It's a staple for us.

I have been spending my cooking time with my Chew friends, Rachel Ray, and others on the cooking/food networks. For the past year or so I have loved cooking while watching pre-recorded cooking shows. Anyone ever watched Hungry Girl? She has some great ideas. I also love The Chew just cause they're fun, but not necessarily low carb or low cal. Anyway, I find watching these shows while cutting veggies and prepping good foods for the upcoming week makes it easier to stay in the kitchen and finish these tasks, which in turn, makes the working/ dieting week go much better/easier. However, (and this is a big HOWEVER), my kids are grown and I don't have to tend to them, so whatever you can do - just thought I'd pass on a tip that has worked for me to help me prep good foods for the week, because I do think that is key. If I don't, I WILL make bad choices!

Is anyone planning a Super Bowl Party? My husband is a huge Seahawks fan since we used to live in Seattle before moving to MT, so this year is a must!!! (They were robbed last time!) :) Of course, veggies and lite dip are the obvious choice, but trying to think of other options that are fun but not too bad. Will make that my cheat day, even though I hate to skip Friday. :( Please post any ideas. Thanks!

Have a great week everyone!

I'm going to a Superbowl party next weekend, and will likely have that as my cheat day, but as I mentioned I don't think I'll have any alcohol because that seems to throw me off for a couple of days. If it wasn't my cheat day I would probably have cut up veggies, hummus, chicken with buffalo sauce. All those items are allowed on the slow carb menu.

Thanks Jacqui and Rennie. When cut back on my carbs I lose water weight, so I think it'll come off quickly this week. I just need to be sure to cut the carbs down low. I probably won't have any beans after lunch also to keep carb count low. Jacqui I'm surprised you are retaining so much water because you seem to have a very low carb diet....? I think you mentioned hormones likely the culprit.

Rennie I hear ya. Sat was cheat day, and I didn't want to cook. It's hard to control sodium when you get food from restaurants. I do take measures in my cooking though.

So since today wasn't a great diet day as well, I think I'll avoid the scale for a couple of days until I feel like I have a handle on things again and I've lost the water weight from the last 48 hours of over indulgence. I definately don't want to get on the scale tomorrow!

My water weight is still being stubborn. I had a suspicion it would be with the way the last few days have been going, but I really don't know what is going on with it. It's frustrating in a way, but by the same token, it's kind of interesting. It's like my body is part of an experiment, lol! I'm taking a weight loss path I haven't taken before, and I'm curious as to where it's going to lead me! I'd be more upset about it, but the way I figure it, it can't last, and I'm not in a race to lose weight or trying to beat a deadline. I've already lost around 40 lbs so I really don't have anything to complain about, and I'm staying on plan so I have no reason to blame myself for doing anything wrong, so I just have to wait it out. And while I'm waiting, I just happen to find the whole thing kind of fascinating. I did try a couple of things to see if it would make a difference. I took Pamprin today because if it is pre-Tom related, I figured that might help with bloat. It hasn't. Last night, I took a Dulcolax to see if that would help any. It didn't. The Dulcolax did its job well enough, but I'm still bloated, still holding water. My belly is not as flat as it was before, my jeans feel tighter, and my rings are tight. Nope, something I have no control over seems to be going on, so it will be interesting to see how it turns out, how long it takes, whether or not it is hormone-related, etc. I guess if worse comes to worse, I'll have to cut something back in my diet, but I really don't think it's diet-related. And so the experiment continues, lol! :D Anyway, I am down a half-lb from yesterday, and that's better than nothng!

Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs, a teapot of green tea, Mio water
Lunch: Wendy's chili and 6 chicken nuggets, Diet Dr. Pepper
Dinner: rotisserie chicken (no skin), steamed broccoli and cauliflower, Mio water, a teapot of green tea

Steph, there are some yummy meats you could prepare for Superbowl--meatballs, pulled pork, chicken wings--or chili or a hearty beef vegetable soup.

Missy, yes, I'm thinking it must have to do with hormones, but that's just a guess!

Gary, yay on the new low! :woohoo:

Rennie, 169 may have won today, but 168 is on its way tomorrow! Great job!

Joe, way to go on losing another lb! :carrot: Applesauce for beans sounds like a pretty good trade-out!

You know, it just occurred to me as I was rereading my post before sending it that the reason I tried Dulcolax (which I have never taken before--not a fan of meds) is because I ran out of probiotics last week and was feeling irregular. Since I don't eat Activia yogurt everyday anymore, I had broken down and started taking probiotics (yep, in pill form!) but like I said, I ran out. Now I wonder if being without it could be contributing to this weight gain. I should go out and get some tomorrow just in case, but its going to be really cold, so I don't know, lol! That part of the experiment may have to wait until the weekend! :brr:

Steph that just made me laugh, and I needed a laugh today. Although I'm sure you are ready to kill your dog. I just totally get it because my dog is always destroying my shoes. Good thing they are so cute!

So I faced the scale today. I'm going to remind myself that it'll take a couple of days to lose the water weight of a 48-hour cheat mistake. I weighed in at 147.8 the morning of my cheat day, I didn't weigh myself yesterday morning (thank goodness), but today I was 152.2. I think I can feel my body release more water today, so :crossed::crossed:

I must have retained about 7 pounds in water weight, which is crazy...but I guess not unheard of since it was 48 hours of excessive eating high sodium foods.

Back to clean slow-carb eating and excercise though, so feeling good.

Jacqui as you can see I can feel your pain. You aren't holding onto too much. I think it just takes a couple of days, and I'm sure soon enough your water weight will go! :goodluck:

Missy, good job getting back on plan! That water weight will drop off soon! Be sure to drink enough water!

Pamela, a 2-meal day is okay as long as you're not hungry (a signal your blood sugar is low) and you're getting enough calories per day. You don't want built-up hunger to cause you to binge or too few calories to slow your metabolism down! I'm glad to see you added a healthy snack to your 2 meals!

Missy123
01-28-2014, 02:41 PM
Thanks Jacqui! I'm drinking my water for sure.

I did a bunch of reading today about the weight gain after cheat day. Much of the stuff we already know, which is we would need to eat 3500 calories over our maintenance calorie count, equaling to approximately 5500. Also that if you eat crappy food it takes longer to process in the bowel and also backs up the clean foods. So today I'm "processing" it all out...water, etc.

I'm meeting my girlfriends for dinner after work and already checked the menu. I love sushi, but can't afford those calories, so it'll be the spicy chicken lettuce wraps for me tonight.

Made a huge pot of chili and put it in individual containers. Some in the fridge and some in the freezer. Need to take a little time to cut up some snaking veggies though. Lots of veggies in the turkey chili, as well as low sodium thoroughly rinsed black beans, and no added salt.

I've changed my goal weigh in day from Thur to Sat, and my goal for this week is supposed to be 145. Yikes!

Hey Jacqui,

Nope, no binging here.. I have NO desire, which is a GOOD thing.. I think I'm snapping out of my funk.. I was hungry for Breakfast yesterday morning, but I opted for sleep instead...

Today, I had eggs and a cut of leftover steak.. so already better today..

Gary, how nice to start a plan at the beginning of the month and be at goal by the end of the month. That's great and I am extremely proud of you and happy for you ... Way to GO :high:

Steph, Oh my goodness!! Does it have one of those replacement warranties? They aren't cheap IMO ... I'm sorry to hear that

Jacqui, see I told you ... whoosh 1.5lbs down :high:

Missy, that's right keep it moving you know it'll be gone before the next cheat day ... water water water :) <--- yep you said it too :) 145 you go Girl :high: I think when you all make chili and the likes you all should just send a container down here :)

good morning everyone. Busy week so far. I exercised Monday and Tuesday, I took a break today. Food plan is going well. I'm hoping to be back to ticker weight by Saturday. I'm thinking of trying to turn cheat days into one treat day. Maybe a chocolate bar or a pizza or a pasta dish, instead of a whole day of cheating. I can really out do myself on cheat day! So, I might try and rein it in a bit. Good luck all.

Case Study: Two groups were compared. One group ate slow sugar release, low glycemic index foods and another group ate faster release, high glycemic index foods (think white rice or wheat bread). Researchers then monitored blood sugar levels and appetite of the subjects, and found that those consuming the high glycemic index foods had a blood sugar level crash just a few hours after eating, and were hungrier sooner compared to the group that ate the slower release foods. In other words, an identical amount of calories consumed from a sweeter food triggered food addiction symptoms and appetite cravings.

TwoTots sounds like you've been doing well and you have a plan so you will hit that ticker weight minus some :) Way to go :high:

Gary, yep just what Jacqui's been saying :) Are you at goal today?

I am down the .4 that I was up yesterday so back to 169. I really want to see something lower and make it stick, which I know won't happen until I can get to the gym on a regular. Cleaned the snow off the car this morning got all the way to Cary to get a call saying class is postponed till 11 ... you've got to be kidding me  I was told to call a number at 10 to see whether or not the 11 time is a go or if class is cancelled (I'm still in training with the new job that's the class) I don't live close and I don't intend to waste gas driving up and down icy roadways with people that want to speed so today is an off daily now :) and I'm cold ... vent over :)

Stay warm, temps in the teens here today :brr:

Jacqui , when I was in 178 range i threw a tape measure around my waist and it was 38" I said to myself, I want to lose 2" around my waist. I'm not quite there yet. 36.5"
I defiantly am going to boost may calories, back up to around normal requirements & enjoy cheat days, 1st one super bowl Sunday, 2nd one 2/8- family friend who is having a big birthday party.. but with that said
I'm torn, I feel so amazing, do I want to drink, do I want to put other garbage into my body... it has me re-thinking, 30 days ago I would have never been thinking this way...
It sure has been a great month with everyone in this group, you all are part of my daily drive, motivation & accountability partners! so glad I decided to become an active poster!

Rennie, Thanks, I would have bet the farm I would not be able to lose 20lbs in 30 days. i figured atleast 6 week's. makes me all happy inside!

Week 28:
1/25: 171 Cheat Day

Today's Meals:
Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs, a teapot of green tea, Mio water
Lunch: a large veggie salad topped with rotisserie chicken, chopped walnuts, raw sunflower seeds, and ranch dressing, Mio water
Snack: mixed nuts
Dinner: split pea and ham soup (I had to eat around the potatoes that are in it, but my dog enjoyed them!), a teapot of green tea, Mio water

Today's Exercise:
Morning: Leslie Sansone 2-mile indoor walking video

Gary, Congrats on making goal! :carrot: :broc: :cb: I'm glad you became an active poster too! Since you feel so amazing and know you did the right thing for your body, why not come up with a maintenance plan, one that includes cheat days, and a few drinks now and then, but nothing over the top? Usually maintenance means staying within a range since it's difficult for most people to stay at a single weight. Maybe your range could be 165-170 lbs. When you get up to 170, you'll know it's time to cut back and get back down to 165. You are so good at planning. I'm sure you can come up with a plan like this to "have your cake and eat it too"!

Rennie, yay on the drop back down to 169! :dancer: I'm so sorry you've had a rough morning. I hope the day gets better for you!

Pamela, I'm glad you're getting back to a more routine eating pattern today! Sounds like a good breakfast! :cp:

TwoTots, way to go staying on track to get down to your ticker weight by Saturday! You've done such a great job!

Missy, I hope you had a great time out with friends! A spicy chicken lettuce wrap sounds yummy! :hungry: I want to get some chili made this week too. I also have pot roast and ham in the fridge to cook this week. I don't know if I'll get to it all or not! :dizzy:

Thanks Jacqui :), it did when I got the call saying that I didn't have to go in which means today won't be counted against me :D. I want to see 165 so bad it's not funny ... however the taste isn't there yet, if you know what I mean. I know that I'll get there but when? I have changed that to my Valentines Day goal since I have already met all of the others I had set. It just feels like for some reason this one isn't yet tangible, smh. Do you get tired of hearing me complain?

LOL I'm telling you all send some chili down here ;) it will surely keep in this weather :D ...I may make some chicken chili today since I'm here :)

Hi all!

Quick note now, but will be back online later.

Gary wow! If I'm reading this right did you lose 20 pds in one month. I mean, I know men lose weight faster, but still!!!! Super impressive.

I lose 2.2 pounds and am down to 150 this morning. What I noticed is I'm the same weight at this time last week. Seem to be doing the same things. Gaining a few over the weekend, and then gradually losing the water weight. I would just like to see some progress and not so many ups/downs.

Hi everyone! Down 1.5 lbs at my WW weigh-in last night. Not a lot, but I'll take it! :)

Congrats on reaching your goal Gary! 20 lbs in 1 month is incredible! And I agree with your recent post about low GI. Low carb really helps me lose weight but meat is sometimes hard for me since I was a vegetarian for a very long time. Recently been adding beans and hummus and still losing, just not quite as fast, but it is more satisfying. But let me eat just a little bread, even whole wheat, and it seems like I'm starving a few hours later and stop losing.

So sadly, my fitbit flex is completely destroyed and no warranty plan. Dang! Expensive to replace and I really love it since it usually inspires me to do extra steps at the end of the day if I haven't made my 10,000 step goal. Guess I should at least be happy that he didn't swallow it and leave me with expensive vet bills to boot!

Have a great everyone! :)

Hi BigJoe, the slow-carb diet advises at least 20g of protein per meal...and especially at breakfast. I think generally speaking if you are working out with weight training and male you should have around 30g.

Congrats Steph on your loss! 1.5 is a perfect weight loss for a week. I mean, I know how you feel and I sure want to lose it faster, but it is a solid weight loss. :congrat: So sorry about your Fitbit! My girlfriend loves, loves hers and would be super upset too, so I get it.

Rennie let me know how you do on the Atkins induction. I did that in October and did lose weight quickly the first week. Water weight that my body was giving up due to the loss of carbs. If you get headaches you may need to increase your sodium because you may be losing too much water weight. :goodluck:

So I went from 150.2 to 149.8 today (not terrible). Last week on Thur I weighed in at 149 and dropped to 147 by Sat. So my plan was to be 145 this Sat so I lost 2 solid pds this week. Dangit! :(

My cheat day won't be until Super Bowl Sunday now as well and I think I'll just make it a cheat evening, instead of the afternoon as well. I'd really like to make some overall weekly progress! I haven't hit the gym very hard thus far this week due to work commitments and then 2 hours in the dentist chair yesterday evening. But that will change the next few days!

My boyfriend is doing this with me and has been eating great, working out hard, and taking supplements, etc. He's lost 15 pds in the last couple of weeks. And it's not because he has a lot to lose. He's 6' 4" and now is weighing in at 216. I'm soooo envious. But good for him. It's nice to have a partner who is so supportive AND inspirational.

Wow Pamela she has some great recipes for Super Bowl Sunday! I think I'm going to at least make and bring the "breadsticks" even though that is to be my cheat evening.

And maybe even make them on other days too. I may try and decrease the calorie count by using a low fat cheese and skipping the pepperoni.

Thanks for sharing!! :hun::drool:

Good morning Everyone! I'm still at 172 today. It looks like I am going to end this month where I started! Oddly enough, I feel lighter today. I'm don't feel bloated, the waistband on my jeans aren't cutting into me, my rings aren't tight, etc. I bought probiotics yesterday. That could be why I'm not feeling bloated, although I'm not sure they work that quickly. I'm more comfortable though! :cp: As for the scale, well, whatcha gonna do? Lol! I guess if it doesn't move in another week, I'll change my ticker and just settle in here for a while! I thought about changing the diet somehow to get the scale moving again, but you know, the reason I picked this diet is because I like it, it suits me, and I feel I can live with it long-term, and so I don't think I will change it. Either I will keep losing or I won't. I used to weigh 216 lbs, wearing XL shirts and size 18 jeans. I'm pretty happy wearing large shirts and size 10 jeans at 172 lbs! I hope to lose more, of course. I'd like to get out of the overweight range, and since I went down to 167.5 this month, I do think I will lose some more. However, if I don't, I have no complaints! :D

Week 28:
1/25: 171 Cheat Day
1/26: 173.5
1/27: 173
1/28: 171.5
1/29: 172
1/30: 172
1/31:

Today's Meals:
Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs, a teapot of green tea, Mio water
Lunch: cottage cheese, black olives, Mio water
Snack: a handful of almonds, Diet Dr. Pepper
Dinner: Ham, steamed broccoli, Mio water, a teapot of green tea

Rennie, congrats on the drop! :carrot: I'm so sorry that TOM has hit you up twice this month. Been there, done that, not fun! The probiotics I was on was a Kroger brand, called Probiotics 4x. This time I bought Phillips Colon Health. It was on sale and cheaper than the Kroger brand! :D

Pamela, thanks for the link! I clicked on her low-carb recipes tab and there were lots of good recipes!

Missy, woohoo being 2.2 lbs down! As for going around in circles, if I remember correctly, you said you had a really big cheat day and then you didn't have good diet days on Sunday or Monday. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but I assume it means they weren't completely on-plan. But since then, you have lost over 2 lbs so I think that's great! :dancer: How nice that your boyfriend is doing this with you! My hubby isn't really doing this but he is trying to cut back on carbs. Somehow that still means there are lots of cookies and such in the house, and he's lost 10 lbs this month! :dizzy:

Steph, yay on the 1.5 lbs lost! That's great! :broc: I'm sorry to hear your Fitbit Flex is a total loss, but I am glad your dog did not swallow it!

TwoTots, way to go on being a lb away from ticker weight! :cb: I hope you get there by Saturday! :crossed:

Joe, just hang in there! Ups and downs are normal!

By the way, Rennie, no, I never get tired of hearing you tell me about how things are going and what you're feeling day to day, lol! The way I figure it, we all go through this stuff, and we can all lean on and learn from each other, and that's a great thing!

Yes, I want to make the Deep Dish Bacon Extravaganza Pizza with Chicken/Cheese Crust really bad.. sounds sooooo good! And the cheesecake.. however, I could just have cheesecake on my cheat day.. so..

Also.. confused.. I'm not really doing anything on Sunday, Martin will take the girls with him to his families super bowl party, this gives me one day without everyone, so it's good.. but I don't know if I want to take my cheat day Saturday or Sunday.. mostly likely Martin will bring home some goodies.. so I'll be tempted... what should I do?

My Meals Wednesday 1/29/14:

B - Eggs with Turkey Sausage, Coffee with SF Creamer
S - None
L - Atkins Crustless Chicken pot pie
S - Nuts
D - Spicy Ground Beef and Beans with cheese
S - none

Water / Tea - approx 32 oz

Pamela, I think I'd play it on the safe side and take it on Sunday. I'm doing mine on Saturday as usual but that's because we aren't celebrating the SuperBowl in any way, so there won't be any temptations. But if you think Martin is bringing home some treats from his family's SuperBowl party, I'd spend my alone time on Sunday curled up with a good book or watching tv while eating the cheat day foods I want, and then when he and the kids got home, I wouldn't have to worry because whatever treats they brought with them, I'd be able to eat! So my vote is Sunday!

Good advice Jacqui, thats what im going to do, i am going to check the libary for the brain grain ( i thnk it is called) maybe there is something to this wheat hysteria.

Rennie, i am restricting my calories by 500ish, listened to what my body was telling me, if i need to eat, need water..... Rennie take a gander over at whole30 page, i was thinking of that, but i was and am not interested in going that strick (need quick easy carbs like legumes), the whole 30 is basicly 4-hour body, with legumes, minus fruit, why i mention this look in there forum's and thewhole 30 for ahtletes, post work out meal's..... i find the whole "whole" thing somewhat interesting, but not interesting enough to shell out top dollar.

when I dropped from 230 to 175-180 i was more in the 200 -300 restricted, i did my 200-300 calories at 9, noon 3 = 600-900, (whiile at work) then that left 700-1000 for dinner (big salad) evening snack, this time each meal was in the 200-300 range, and skipped if i was feeling good

I vote for Pamela's cheat day to be Sunday too! You can enjoy your cheat foods alone, and then the treats they bring back. :cp:

Jacqui you have made great strides in your weight loss! I hear everyone plateaus, especially when you get close to goal weight. At least you feel good! :dancer:

I guess my weight posting was confusing. Here's my progression for the last several days and why I seem to be going around in circles.

Wed (Jan 22) - 150pds
Thur - 148.8
Fri - 147.8
Sat - 147.8 (cheat day)
Sun - 151.2 in morning (but cheat day #2!) :nono:
Mon - dieted, but afraid to get on scale
Tues - 152.2
Wed - 150.2
Thur - 149.8 (more than last Thur!)

Hence the reason why I think I'm switching to just one cheat meal a week. Buckling down now. I can do this!

Steph good job on the 1.5 down :)

Thanks Missy :)I had already cut out starchy carbs so I probably won't get the headaches. But I don't know since my carbs today were substantially lower than they have been this month. I thought I would be hungry today and so far I'm not and I haven't had dinner yet. I decided I'm gonna have tilapia instead of my planned meal and I added 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal to my smoothie so 25g of carbs for the day, not bad :) Oh and sodium today 1199 :) Missy yes you can do this and you are :high:

Pamela I agree with everyone else Sunday would be a great day. But won't they come home late? Will it be too late to eat goodies then? Just a thought  I have to check out that link :)

Thanks Jacqui :) and you know that you can lose more. :) ... don't get comfortable where you are  I did that in 2010 and it was really not a good decision. I'm kicking myself for it now :kick:

Thanks for the response Gary :) are you speaking of the 30 something threads? or the book? I surely don't want to go anymore stricter with my way of eating than I am. :) Oh good job on the .4 down :high: You are still on the move :)

I truly thank you Jacqui and TwoTots for starting the thread. You know it makes me wonder why so many people that started with you didn't stay? This definitely works and it's not hard at all. I think this is the best kind of (kinda diet) :D I've ever been on and it is one that I can live with :)

I think my present to myself will be a fitbit. Maybe by the time I reach 160 I just may be able to afford it :) . A few former 3FCers on FB use it and love it also. I'm gonna continue this way of eating when the consecration is over with the added light cheat day. I really like the way I feel and I like the way I'm starting to look.

Pamela- I agree with everyone else. Make Sunday your Cheat Day. However, make it a REAL TREAT DAY! Since everyone's gone, make it a special day for you! Read a book, take a long bath, do that scrapbook or art project that you've been meaning to do, or afraid to try- hey, no one's home so who will know! Do whatever YOU want! Days like those are a blessing and meant to be enjoyed, most especially when you have a family and they are few and far between. Take it from someone who has faced "end of days" - you can always do more cleaning, another load of laundry or more dishes. Do something, preferably a whole day of somethings for you! And that will be the best Cheat/treat day! Have a few cheat treats along the way, very special cheat treats that you normally wouldn't have. Not a lot, just small bites or tastes. Make it a Taste of Indulgence Day. Plan it like you would a Super Bowl party for others, but this is a Super You Party! Then if your family brings you special treats later that night, you can continue the indulgence with a few bites without too much right before bed, (freeze the rest for next Cheat Day!), but if they don't get a chance to bring much, or it's too late, then you will still have had a great YOU day with your own indulgences, food and otherwise.

Just an idea. :)

And yes Rennie, I recommend getting a fitbit. I started with the little smiley one that clips to your waistband, but kept forgetting to take it off and switching it to my comfy clothes after work. It went through the washer many times still clipped to my work clothes. :). However, I didn't get a very accurate reading because I didn't have it on the whole day, so I switched to a fitbit flex last January, buying it with birthday money, and have loved it the whole year. It's like a bracelet that I would leave on all the time, except when charging, and it tAlks to my phone and computer. Love it! It really has inspired me to walk more steps when I haven't made my 10,000 steps. But they are spendy. (Dang dog! Good thing he's cute!) I think I'll get the fitbit force next, which is more $, but I haven't spent my b-day money this year yet, so will use that. The force is like the flex in that it is a bracelet, which I prefer, but it also has a watch and counts stairs. We have a lot of stairs in our house! I want credit for those! That're harder than regular steps!!!

That is great news Rennie! 10.2 pounds is a great accomplishment! You should be so proud, and getting a fitbit is a great way to reward yourself. :congrat:

The good news is I lost 1.8 since yesterday, but I'm still a bit higher than last week. I am having great workouts and my clothes fit better since I started this and I have lost around 5 pds in the past month, so I will take this as an accomplishment. I just learned last weekend that I need to take measures not to overindulge on cheat day, stay away from the martinis, and control myself the next day. Even my boyfriend said it must be super hard with my girls making homemade chocolate chip cookies, etc. So I've told them I pay the mortgage and they can no longer bake stuff like that when I'm home.

Can I ask.. how much weight is the norm on this plan? And if you follow it to the t.. what can you do to take off even more weight?

I am down 1.5 today, but not for long because tomorrow is cheat day! :D

Week 28: High 173.5, Low 170.5
1/25: 171 Cheat Day
1/26: 173.5
1/27: 173
1/28: 171.5
1/29: 172

1/31: 170.5

Today's Meals:
Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs, a teapot of green tea, Mio water
Lunch: Ham, cottage cheese, Mio water
Snack: Diet Dr. Pepper
Dinner: a bowl of veggie soup, 10 chicken wings, water

Rennie, CONGRATS on such a WONDERFUL month!!! :bravo: And don't worry, lol, I'm not going off-plan! Just the opposite. I intend to stick with this diet! I'm just saying if my body decides to settle at 172, I won't have a problem with it. We'll see what happens! I'm down a little bit today.

Pamela, here is a link to a cheat day "cheat sheet" from the website of that Stephen guy who is a huge fan of Tim Ferriss and The Four-Hour Body and seems to be an expert on the diet. Maybe you'll find it helpful! http://www.4hourlife.com/four-hour-body-binge-day-cheat-sheet/.

Missy, great job on 5 lbs lost for the month!!! :encore: And good for you figuring out changes that will work for you!

Steph, great advice! :cp:

Thanks Jacqui,

And congrats on the loss!

Questions.. And forgive me if I've already asked these before..

1) Does everyone here use butter or ghee? Was doing some online reading and seems that butter really isn't allowed.. but ghee is.. I don't think I"ve ever seen it and it will probably be very expensive?

2) Anyone here use regular cheese? How Much?

Missy, thanks and I hear ya on the cookie ;) ... my biggest temptation in here is French fries. The boys make them almost everyday, smh. It took a lot out of me not to eat just one yesterday ... they were just sitting on the table staring at me :D Great job on the 5lbs Gone :high:

Pamela, honestly, I don't think I will do the same thing (lose so much in a month) ever again at least not in February. I was struggling in the beginning with this and Jacqui coached me a ton during the beginning. I at one point had more cheats then good days it seemed. But then our church has a 30-32 day consecration and I gave up all bread, potatoes, sweets, pasta, rice, no diet soda and my coffee with my s/f caramel machioto which I love. I believe that was what did it and that only. That's why I have decided to continue to eat this way but add cheat day back in and ONLY having my low carb bread, low carb tortilla or dreamfields pasta. I may try to figure out how to have a sugar free dessert that I make, that way I know what's in it. These will be my modifications. I will gradually be adding them in to see how they work with my weight loss. I also walk on the treadmill 3.7-4.9 mph for 4 miles on an incline when I can get to the gym. Pamela I want to try ghee. I actually use Promise light when I was using any form of butter/margarine. When I cook I use spray olive oil or stray butter. I get about 2 ozs of cheese a day, provolone, extra sharp cheddar, Colby Jack

Alright Jacqui, you go :high: ... you're good because I would probably skip cheat day ... but you are the one that we come to for advice for a reason so do your thing my friend, enjoy your Cheat Day :)

ok I was supposed to be doing day two of Atkins induction ... well I was reading something on oranges and a lady at the job had a blood orange and it wasn't sweet, so she said. So I decided I would buy them. This go around on my journey I am not big on sweet things for some reason. I ate one and the carbs are high so at 15 carbs it brought my carbs up to 32 not low enough though my calories are. I started putting honey in my tea because the (generic Walmart brand) Splenda was beginning to be too sweet for me.

I hope we all weigh in at a lower number in the morning to start our month off right :crossed: not that it would be wrong ;)

Rennie I loved reading your post about your game plan.

Congrats everyone on a great start to 2014!

some of my other motivation's and rambles
A while back, i saw that shred diet DR, on a show maybe CNN, but he is on the doctor's regularly.... so what i gather in his plan "SHREDDERS lose on average: 20 lbs, 4 inches, or 2 sizes in just 6 weeks!" is he starts off week one transition dieter's to healthy eating plenty of meals ect. then as the weeks progress to the end is when he rachet's down, seemed like week four you were just juicing and in those weeks @the end are when you lose the bulk of the 20lb's. he talks about diet confusion, like muscle confusion, mix it up... dunno know how much is real or to sell book's.

I watch the biggest loser, and they are week after week working out each day, eating healthy, and pulling big numbers.. and not falling over.

In the spirt of the shed and biggest loser, I was doing a little carb cycling (mixing it up) i'd eat regular then if there was a day or back to back days where i was feeling good and motivated i cut out carbs as much as posible, lived off my chicken on a fork, then a healthy salad for dinner with a little low bean chili for dressing.

for the last week I'm using a simple salsa, I found it at walmart it was the cheapest and had the shortest ingrediatent list and no fructose type of stuff in it... less then 1/2 the carb's and 1/2 the carories then light ranch, im still using a little ranch on also. I think a lot of my success is a result of not pouring 1/4 cup of dressing anymore.

I feel like i am really carb sensitive, does not take much to put add flab. Slow carb in moderation is the life diet for me.

I pick up a bag or organic quinoa at sam's club i have been expermenting on cooking it over the last week, (Im done with lentils) i think i have it figured out now, (trying to melow it's grainy flavor). quinoa is extremely low GI index, hoping it can be a long term staple in my daily diet. To get some healthy easy carb's into my diet

a bowl of diced chicken breast, quinoa, little salsa yum

Week 5
1/29 ~ 164.8
1/30 ~ 164.4
1/31 ~ 164.4
2/01 ~ 164.0

I am up to 173 today. 2 weeks ago today, I was at 168. TOM skipped me in January, so I still think this unexplained weight gain may have something to do with hormones, but I don't know. :dunno: Anyway, today is cheat day and, no, I'm not skipping it, lol!

Thanks Gary, if you haven't noticed I'm a chatter box. And I love sharing my journey with the people that care and understand what I am going through :) Ok Gary I'm a little slow :) I get that you carb cycled but did you only do chicken mostly for the entire month? What carbs did you eat and how much? I remember your chicken on a fork post but not to the "t". Please break out your journey in detail week by week if you don't mind. I sure would like to give it a shot. Thank you ... and I've got to say it ... I'm so jealous of your 164 ;) Good job my friend :high:

Caren :welcome: to the thread :) and :congrat: on the 10lbs and inches GONE :high: I'm down a bra size also, not a good thing for me at all  Do share your meals with us please :) Thanks

Jacqui, I got your skipped TOM, ;) and you're right, that is probably it. Enjoy your day :)

I had a good weigh in this morning. I was down .4 to 168.4. I slept/stayed in bed 2 hours longer than I normally do so I wonder if that helped, either way I'll take it as being off to a good start :)

Gotta figure out what I want to eat for breakfast. It's Saturday so I surely don't want a shake :)

Thanks for sharing your journey Gary. I love hearing how people have made their successes. I read in a Muscle & Fitness Magazine recently in an article for people competing that they carb cycle too (low one day, not so low the next). But in their diet they never had high carb days. And I hear ya. I think I am carb sensitive too and this will need to be a way of life for me. I think once I'm at my desired weight and on maintenance I'll probably only have one carb meal a day that includes pasta, rice or bread.

Sounds like you have a great attitude Jacqui! You are doing great, and don't you feel better eating like this? I sure do. :)

Congrats your your loss today Rennie and hope you enjoyed a yummy breakfast!

Welcome and congrats on your 10 pd weight loss Caren! That is really solid success!

I went from 148 yesterday to 147.2 today, and since I was 147.8 last Saturday morning I feel that is good news! I'm also more commited this weekend and am not planning a big cheat day. Just date night with the boyfriend tonight that will include a healthy meal and we are splitting a bottle of red wine. And tomorrow I am bringing my turkey chili to my friend's super bowl party, and that will be enough for me. I may take a nibble of something, but nothing she has planned to make will tempt me too much.

To share with everyone my diet, most days are:
B - Protein shake with almond milk, 1 carb protein powder, and a few frozen blueberries
S - Plain greek yogurt, sprinkling of organic granola, few frozen blueberries
L - Homemade low sodium turkey chili with lots of veggies and black beans
S - Cut up veggies, with maybe some veggies -or- deli turkey and cheese roll up
D - Steamed veggies with butter spray and lately I've been eating a lot of fish for dinner (or chicken breast with buffalo sauce, which has zero carbs)

Carb count tends to be between 50-100. Calorie count is around 1100, and I work out most days. I don't mind the blueberries because they are full of antioxidents, and the tiny bit of yogurt/granola is another of my modifications.

I've learned I HAVE to be careful with drinking alcohol on cheat day, and I think the fact that I now have a diet of foods that I really like, are easy to assemble, and don't bore me it is easy effort. PLUS, I banned my daughters from baking desserts in the house for a while. LOL

Rennie on the day's i'm not hungry & feeling good physicaly / mentally i eat just chicken until dinner, this morning i did a chunk of chicken, i'm not feeling hungry today, not working out today, so if all is good i will do a chunk for lunch... a salad for dinner... as a result it would be a low calorie low carb day, big weight lose day, then tomorrow i will probably have a bigger appetite and go bag to broccoli lentil's ect. thru out the day.

For me the weekend were where i doubled down, i'm not at work, less stress, can feel hungry, be a little crabby becuase i'm hungry, each week i lost 3lb-ish saturday sunday monday... then i would go back up to eating a little more..

I lost 12lbs week 2-4, of 9 of the 12 came off weeked / 1st of week

i know that is not the slow carb diet, surprised myself i was able to do some "carb cycling" not be starving.. my motivation was the results i had when i did it. I dont think it is healthy way to diet, but the results extraordinary

Thanks Missy :) I like your menu. It really does remind me of the way I eat :) I love blueberries and raspberries but I have a texture issue. I am wondering if I spent the money on the bullet would it blend them up better? I can't stand any lumps in something that in my mind should be smooth. Does that make sense? I think the fact that I now have a diet of foods that I really like, are easy to assemble, and don't bore me it is easy effort. <--- I agree :)

I just love this thread as I have said before. I really think that I can live with this way of eating as long as I keep accountable I'll do it. MFP is a great helper also.

B ~ 2 eggs, turkey ham, cheese, a fresh pineapple ring (cut by my son)
S ~ nuts
L ~ homemade fajita chicken unwrap, with salsa and cheese
S ~ hummus lettuce wrap <--- maybe seems like heavy meal day//so maybe a blood orange
D ~ tuna unwrap with tomato

Gary thanks for the info. I think it's more like an Atkins/SB way maybe. It may not be totally healthy but I don't think it's unhealthy either because everything that you consumed was good for you, right? and you aren't planning to trim down another 20lbs this month are you?

A co-worker brought some jerk chicken in yesterday. I had a taste and it was quite good. She's Jamaican so it was actually very good (a tease). I think if I knew how to marinade my chicken the way that a lot of people do I could eat chicken all day. Missy I also get bored easily and when trying to do the right thing that's not good for me. So far so good and suggestions on how to marinade chicken the right way are welcome :) I have done it before but the flavor doesn't go through the entire piece.

Well, it's my weigh in day and I lost 1.8 pounds.. but thats in 2 weeks, remember the first week I gained .2. I'm a bit bummed because honestly, I have not cheated at all except for the first cheat day.. oh well... I will keep going.. I still feel like giving up all that sugar, bread, pasta, rice, etc., was the best thing for me.. I haven't gotten the headaches I have in the past and I haven't hardly felt hungry between meals like I used to..

OH, and I'm taking my cheat day tomorrow..

Anyways, here is my yesterday meals:

My Meals Friday 1/31/14:

B - 2 eggs, 2 turkey sausace patties, sprinkle of cheese, coffee with sf creamer
S - Nuts
L - Chicken salad on spring salad leaves, left over sauteed squash from dinner

Okay, I'm about to go for a walk. It's the first time today I've had a chance. I am going to list on here, below my meals, each day that I walk. I give everyone here permission to scold me for not walking on any day that I am not sick or my rheumatoid arthritis is flaring or TOM is visiting! Because I have rheumatoid arthritis, I don't do more than walk, but because I have it, I really do need to walk, whether it is outside when the weather allows or inside to an indoor walking video. So my friends, please help me to stay accountable! I loathe exercise so I am really bad about it (even though I am very grateful that I am able to exercise)! :running:

Jacqui good for you on going for a walk. Walking is all I do also. I need to strength train or something to tone. My stomach is looking really flabby and I don't remember it looking like this in 2010. I did my 4 miles this afternoon on the treadmill. For some reason I was out of breath pretty early on but I continued and burned 589 calories.

I think tuna is my favorite food at the moment with tomato :)

Jacqui_D
02-01-2014, 10:15 PM
Rennie, yay on the .4 down and the walking! Great job! :cp: I just walk 1-2 miles because if I walk more, my knees swell and I'm pretty useless the next day. But I got my walk in tonight, 1.5 miles, so that's good! You know, I am just the opposite of you when it comes to sweets. You seem to be a chips snacker, and I am a sweets snacker! Splenda is just b-a-r-e-l-y sweet enough for me in my hot green tea, lol! And oh my, give me an ice cold glass of Southern sweet tea any day (on any cheat day, that is, haha)! Yum! :T

Pamela, congrats on being 1.8 lbs down! :carrot: That's great! You know, you had been doing another diet (was it WW?) before this, and I imagine when you started that, you dropped the initial water weight that people tend to lose on diets. After that initial drop, the body burns fat, and it can really only burn up to about 2 lbs of fat per week, so you did fantastic this week! :encore: And I can't wait to see what you've chosen for your cheat day foods, lol! :hungry: Oh and I use butter to cook. And the only cheese I eat is cottage cheese and a sprinkle of shredded mild cheddar on my salads (and omelets when I have them).

Gary, in The Four-Hour Body, the main diet Tim Ferriss promotes is the Slow Carb Diet, but he also mentions some other diets: Intermittent Fasting, Protein Cycling, and Primarily Plant-Based Diet (http://www.chewfo.com/diets/the-4-hour-body-by-timothy-ferriss-2010-what-to-eat-and-foods-to-avoid-food-list/). It sure seems to me that Carb Cycling would fit right in as a good alternative!

Missy, woohoo on the .6 drop! :broc: And yes, I feel so much better eating slow carb. I mean, I'm always happy to see cheat day roll around because I LOVE my sweets, but I just can't eat like that everyday, yet before I started the Slow Carb Diet, that's exactly what I was doing! :fr: Btw, your meals look great!

Jacqui good job on the walk. :high: sorry about your knees swelling on longer walks. My knees use to ache and pop when I was heavier but not any more. Maybe yours will get a little better also. :) I just need to remember to stretch before I start. :)

Congrats on the losses! I haven't weighed myself in the last few days, but of course will at WW on Wednesday night. Feel like I've had chills lately so refuse to take my clothes off in the morning to weigh myself - unless I can take off at least 5 lbs for my PJs!!! :)

Good job walking Jacqui! I still have not made it to the gym. I am on my feet all day and have been feeling more exhausted than usual lately. Hope I'm not coming down with something. Have been sleeping better lately so that should help.

Okay, crazy I know, but I just took down my Christmas Tree today. I've never had it up this late but I promised my daughter that I would leave it up until the end of January since we put it up so late this year, right before Christmas. We usually put it up right after Thanksgiving. My husband was extremely relieved! I think the cats are bummed though. Being strictly indoor cats, they love it! Like an indoor jungle gym! Oh well. Can't please everyone. We also have a smaller, all year perpetual tree that we decorate for different holidays and seasons, and I decorated it for Valentine's Day. Yeah, as I said crazy... but fun!

Okay, back to diet talk... For Super Bowl I decided on making a large salad bar/ taco bar, and chicken wings. I figured the salad bar could also function as a veggie platter for nibbling, and the taco bar additions could be deluxe nachos, for those who want them, or taco salad for the lighter, lower carb option. And chicken wings because they're traditional and sound good! I'm not preparing any dessert except cut fruit for the salad bar. Oh, and diet mojitos with the no cal Crystal Light Mojito mix, fresh squeezed lime juice and muddled mint, some lime slices and rum. Not too bad. What do you think?

Steph, great SuperBowl menu! :hungry: And I'll call your crazy lady, and raise you one, lol! TwoTots, yay for exceeding your ticker weight :yay: and I'm glad you no longer worry about the water weight you gain after cheat day!

See, I need to start walking again, but I need to get to the doctor because sometimes I get to the end of our street and get so winded and my heart starts hurting that I haven't walked for at least 6 months..

Today is my cheat day or Fatunday!
I was gonna do the right thing and only have eggs and bacon for breakfast, but I made potatoes, so I did have about 3/4 cup of those and the last sip of my daughters orange juice..

I decided against making chicken enchiladas because then there would be leftovers and I would be tempted.. so I decided on burgers, nice big juicey ones.. and chocolate cake and ice cream.. IF I'm not so stuff I want to throw up, I might go out for a Starbucks regular Mocha Frap. But I want to do all of this before 7 p.m. and then TRY not to eat anything after that.. I wished I had some laxitives, LOL I'm feeling bad just typing this..

My Meals Satuday 2/1/14:

Weight Before Starting the Day: 172.8

B - 2 Eggs, 4 Sausage, 1/2 Beans, Sprinkle of Cheese, Coffee with heavy cream
S - None

Ok.. just made some SLOW CARB GOOD bean dip.. wanted to share the recipe.. well, you might tweak it because I didn't really measure, so this is my approximates:

2 Cans rinsed and drained white beans
1 garlic glove - Squished through one of those garlic presses
Fresh lemon juice from HALF of small lemon
1 tbsp cumin
Sprinkle (3) or so of cayenne pepper
5 pieces of Roased Red Peppers from the Jar, diced a bit
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
3 tbsp of Extra Light Tasting Olive Oil Mild Flavor (Pompeian Brand)

Process until smooth, adjust seasoning if needed.. I used my mini food processor.. worked great and tastes so good.. I'd rather eat this than the hummus from the store!

Pamela, definitely go to the doctor before you pick up walking again. I hope your symptoms are just weight-related, and as you lose weight, those symptoms of being out of breath and your heart feeling like it's hurting will go away, but just to be on the safe side, definitely go to the doctor first. Your bean dip sounds delish! :T

Rennie, let us know how your oopsie rolls turn out! Today I watched an episode of Dr. Oz which had the author of Wheat Belly, Dr. William Davis, as a guest. Someone asked about an alternative to bread for making sandwiches, and although Dr. Davis gave the ingredients for a type of sandwich using a flaxseed wrap, he didn't give the recipe for the wrap (which I thought was really odd since a bread alternative was what they were asking for). Dr. Oz didn't give the flaxseed wrap recipe on his website either, but in the comments section of the website, someone posted the flaxseed wrap recipe from the Wheat Belly book: :cp:

Wheat Belly Flaxseed Wrap
Submitted by: EILISH99

Number of Servings: 1

Ingredients

3 Tbsp ground flaxseed
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1 large egg
1 Tbsp water

Substitution

Substitute Oil with Avocados from Mexico

Tips

You can make this savory by adding herbs such as paprika, onion powder, garlic powder; or even noncaloric sweetener & cinnamon.
You can make this in a rectangular microwave safe dish, or a round container.
I've used this sweetened lightly with sweetener & cinnamon as a pancake. Serve with SF pancake syrup.

Directions

Mix together flax and baking powder. Stir in melted coconut oil. Beat in egg and water until blended. Pour into greased microwave safe pie plate. Microwave on high for 2-3 minutes until cooked. Allow to cool for about 5 minutes. Gently lift an edge with a spatula, loosen from the pan. Flip the wrap over and top with desired toppings.

Rennie, I also found a Wheat Belly recipe for a pizza crust on Dr. Oz's website. I know you like pizza! :jeno: It can be found here: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/wheat-belly-pizza-crust.

Lol Jacqui- we're 2 peas in a pod! I also have an old Victorian built in 1889, 3 stories, 4 if you count the basement - which I do when I'm carrying stuff from the top floor to the basement for storage! It's not a huge house, just tall. You have me beat on the amount of trees. I have 8 or 9 but didn't get them all up this year. We were in NYC for the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and it threw off my holiday decorating season.

Well, best laid plans... I ended up having some chips, soft pretzel bites in cheese sauce and some brownies and ice cream for dessert, along with the taco salad I planned and the fruit I planned for dessert. Oh my! My stomach tossed and turned all night and I'm still miserable this morning!!! I am too afraid to get on the scale today! I'll have to be really good to just break even on Wednesday's weigh-in. :(

Stephanie, my stomach was so bad last night, I had to take Pepto before I went to bed, I burped from about 7p.m. till I went to bed, LOL I was MISERABLE.. but I got to eat chocolate cake while dieting.. lol

Martin kept laughing at me and saying "what did you do, eat too much"? HMMMPH! lol

Do we post our Cheat day meals, or do we just log it and keep it a secret :)) lol

Look what I found, a great recipe for Peanut Butter Cup Protein Shake.. do you think this is legal on Slow Carb?

http://mycookingspot.com/peanut-butter-cup-protein-shake/

Peanut Butter Cup Protein Shake

8oz. Almond Milk
1 Scoop Protein Shake Mix
1 Tbsp. peanut butter
1 Tbsp. Cocoa Powder
6 ice cubes

Blend well in a blender.

What do you all think?

Pamela you are so funny. I agree, it is great to have a cheat day. That is the thing my boyfriend like about this diet the most. We can only be so good for so long. Hope your tummy feels better!

Rennie I've heard of the Oooopsies. Let me know how the turn out. The look really good in the pictures, but I wonder how they are really. I got all of the ingredients to make the cauliflower bread sticks, but I don't have sauce to dip them in and am snowed in today, so I may wait a bit before making them.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and Super Bowl plans.

This is the first weekend where I didn't over indulge too much. I went to my friend's party last night knowing she wouldn't have any healthy food, and she didn't. It was so hard that I had to step away from the kitchen and sit in front of the TV to avoid the temptation. I had some wine, my turkey chili....but I had two BBQ sliders and nibbled on some of her cake. She even sent us home with a bunch of prepackaged leftovers.

The good news is after this weekend I managed to only gain about 1 1/2 pounds. Yay! Weekends past I'd weigh in a few pounds heavier.

Jacqui I sure will let you all know how they turn out. I am truly interested in making the all of the things that can be made with cauliflower. Bread sticks, pizza crust, crust for a pot pie oh my. I'd be in Heaven. I've got to check out the links. Jacqui I have to tell you ... a girl had a bag of cheetos today and the guy beside me had a bag of cheez itz (I don't particularly care for the cheez itz but they were there so I wanted to buy a bag ... but I didn't) but the girl that had the cheetos was just on a fast herself, (she did one meal a day) I know that has nothing to do with anything buttttt I asked her for just one cheeto. I got one and that was all I ate. During break I went to the snack machine I really wanted a bag of the hot sauce chips but I put the money back in my pocket, filled my water bottle back up and went to my desk. I am so proud of me :cheer: Oh I don't have any coconut oil can I substitute and use olive oil? I like the idea of using cinnamon and sf syrup :)

Steph and Pamela hope your tummies are feeling better

Pamela have you tried PB2? It's pretty good and I believe it's less calories than peanut butter and since it's a powder it may mix better, idk :)

Missy it reminds me of a rice cake in the picture :) I do hope it taste good :). I want to use it just as she did with a burger, bacon and cheese but homemade not from Wendy's ;) Some where on here I read that someone made come bread from great northern beans and their children and husband didn't know the difference. I'd like to give that a shot also. Please let me know how the bread sticks turn out. You don't need any dip :) use some garlic and make garlic bread sticks ;) tasty :) Good on you on the weigh in :high:

Confession -- I didn't really eat dinner last night I had some nuts, cheese, grapefruit juice, popcorn and a blood orange and got up this morning to a 1lb gain. I'm sure it was the popcorn because it happens just about every time I eat it in the evening. The funny thing is that my stomach looked flatter and I felt lighter if that makes sense. Oh well better luck tomorrow :)

today I did have the LaBanderita low carb tortilla at lunch 5 net carbs, 6g fiber, 5g protein and 0 sugar :)

I believe I am getting sick. :( I woke up yesterday with a headache and today with a sore throat and cough. Now I have a headache, my cough is worse, my chest hurts, and I am chilled. Hubby and I were out when I started feeling worse, so before we went home, we went to a Chinese restaurant for dinner (so I wouldn't have to cook). It was tasty, calmed my cough, and was very soothing on my throat, but I imagine the sodium was through the roof! So I'll probably be up instead of down on the scale tomorrow. I had tea at the restaurant but I'm going to keep drinking tea because of how bad I feel. It's definitely my go-to drink whenever I'm sick! It might be too much tea in one day but I'm trying to keep warm and feel better!

Snack: Diet Dr. Pepper
Dinner: a small bowl of wonton soup without the noodles, chicken and broccoli without the rice, a teapot of oolong tea, water
After Dinner: a teapot of green tea

Today's Exercise:
None today

Rennie, I am SO proud of you too!!! :trampo: Wow, that was great!

Pamela, cocoa powder is not allowed on the diet, but if I were you, I'd try it! If it doesn't trigger your hunger or cravings for sweets, it just might be a good shake for you!

Steph, oh wow, our homes and decorating craziness do sound alike, lol! It sounds like it was a pretty good cheat day (except for the turning stomach part)!

Pamela and Steph, I hope you both feel better today! :grouphug:

Missy, great job!!! That 1.5 lbs will be gone before you know it! :carrot:

Hi all,
Is it possible to get carb poisoning? Dang, I have felt sick all day, but think I am really getting a flu or something . Taking a hot bath and going to bed early to see if I feel better tomorrow.

BTW- I have made Oopsies many times. More airy and eggie than bread but you can put lot of spices like garlic, dried onions, parm cheese or make them sweet w stevia. Not a bad, or great, bread substitute but you can get used to them and come up with many varieties. I've also made the white bean breads. They are heavier, more texture and more carbs. But slow carbs!

Have a great day tomorrow everyone!

Pamela, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well either. Don't know, but there's probably a lesson there... :)

One of my favorite smoothies is choc/peanut butter/ banana. Oh my! So delicious! I use peanut butter/choc protein powder from Walmart, 1 banana, a scoop of chunky peanut butter, some flax seed, a few tbs if yogurt, some almond milk, a splash of 1% milk and ice all blended in the blender. Makes enough for my breakfast and 1 to go for lunch. Haven't had one in awhile becAuse been trying to go low carb, and fruit smoothies always seem to appeal more in warm weather, but sure sounds good and easy on the stomach! During the summer, I had it almost everyday. I have also used PB2 but like the real chunky peanut butter better. Of course! It's more calories!!!! :)

Night all. (I will sleep tonight, I will sleep tonight...)

Hi! Been searching and reading, trying to find the right "fit" and I must be doing a slow carb diet, too. Would love to join you. I have been working on losing 20 lbs and have managed to get 10 of it off! Found out some of the weight gain was due to a thyroid that decided to stop working. Am now on meds and now I feel great! I have more energy and my skin and hair are both doing better.

Would like some help in finding one of those little scales many of you have at the bottom of your posts. Open to suggestions and ideas. Love to work on healthy eating and recipes.

Looking forward to getting to know you ALL!

Blessings,

Hello everyone. i'm at home sick from work. Looks like there's a lot of it about! Felt rough in work yesterday, nauseous all day. When I came home I had a roll and sweet spread to make me feel better. i couldn't face meat, salad or eggs. I hope I didn't do too much damage. Today I'm on the couch, no exercise but I'm eating better. Hopefully feel better tomorrow. Feel well everyone.
BF: eggs, mushrooms, beans, ham
Snack; Quest protein bar
Lunch; chicken legs

TwoTots, oh my, sounds like stomach flu. The only thing I can eat and drink when I have the stomach flu is buttered toast, ginger ale, and hot tea. Just don't give the diet a second thought while you are trying to get well! Eat and drink what you can. You just need to feel better, and I hope you do very soon!

Steph, I hope you feel better soon too! I do hope it's just the carbs and not the flu! :getwell:

Welcome McSurf!! And congrats on losing 10 pds thus far!! :congrat:

For tips on eating healthy, I would recommend doing some reading on "clean eating" and try to incorporate some of their guidence. It's such a great way to eat nutrient dense foods that our bodies absorb, instead of wasting our calories on low nutrient/empty calorie foods. Good luck though! You are already doing great.

I hope ALL of you ladies are feeling better. Tis the season for so many illness isn't it?

Jacqui when I read what you ate I thought you did an amazing job ordering such a healthy and low carb meal at a place where I would find it hard to resist temptation. Chinese food = YUM! And look at your loss! Well done you! :carrot:

I have to admit I am really craving bread right now. I would die for a sandwich or burger. I think I'll try the Oooopsies since it sounds like they have a lower calorie count?

I was also considering carb cycling. Has anyone heard and tried this yet? A cycle as follows so your matabolism doesn't get stuck: 3-day cycle throughout the week. Day 1 no carbs (less than 25g), day 2 low carbs, day 3 high carbs, day 4 no carbs, day 5 low carbs, day 6 high carbs, and then some sites mention day 7 as your cheat day. This is something professional bodybuilders do often, and the food they eat is very clean. But right now the idea of being able to have a chicken sandwich with wheat bread is sooooooo tempting.

Any thoughts?

Oh, I dropped .6 since yesterday. Down to 148.2. Last Sat I was at 147, so this upcoming Sat I aiming for 145pds for my 2 week loss goal.

Wow.. lots of sick ones today.. I hope everyone gets better and quick.. not fun.. sending my love and lots of healing vibes!

Welcome McSurf and congratulations on the weight loss!

My tummy is better, it was just the "cheat" day stuff.. too much towards the evening is probably what did it.. however, I probably would have been burping all day if I ate that potato salad earlier... so..

OMG, I forgot I do have some PB2, I have the choco one too.. what a ditz I am, I forgot that I had it.. eww, I hope it didn't expire.. Wow.. what an idiot, both of these are expired.. 02/2013 and 12/2012.. what do you think? They are powders, should they still be ok?

I have told 2 of my friends I'm on this diet.. why do they both think this is a "guys" diet? I don't get it.. they think high protein, low carb is for guys? AND they think I will just gain, not lose?

My Meals Monday 2/3/14:

B - Scrambled Eggs with Chorizo and a sprinkle of cheese, coffee and sf creamer
S - None
L - Burger Patty with Alfredo Sauce (2g per serving, had half serving)
S - Leftover B-fast not eaten
D - 1 Leftover Porkchop (gross) and Zuchinni
S - tbsp Peanut Butter

Water / Tea - approx 32 oz

Ok all. I decided to run an experiment and do Chris Powell's Turbo carbo cycle. It's fastest way to lose weight via carb cycling.

2 low carb days
1 high carb day

And then he talks about the 7th day being the cheat day, but I think I'll just keep it to a cheat meal since I am getting close to my Carribean trip.

Here's a link to his web site and the Turbo Carb Cycle info, but you can see his other material on carb cycling and why it works, if interested.

McSurf :welcome: to the thread :) Congratulations on the 10lbs GONE :high:

TwoTots, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well  I hope you feel better tomorrow  I wonder if some chicken or vegetable broth may have made you feel a little better. But bread like crackers work for nausea for sure ;) I hope you don't have the stomach flu :crossed:

Thanks Jacqui so many people are coughing and carrying on at the job but they also are half dressed in my opinion. Good job on the 1.5 down :high: I gained it :) Jacqui did you see my question about switching out the coconut oil for olive oil?

Missy let me know how you like the oopsie bread. And I calorie cycled in 2011 when I would hit a stall and it works. However on the high days I often found it hard to get all of my calories in :) but the scale still moved. LOL I just realized once again you said CARB cycling :) I'd like to give this a shot with good menus of course. Please keep us posted if you decide to do this :) Good job on the .6 down :high: There's low carb wheat bread so I'd have the sandwich but that is just me and the Healthy Life bread that I found doesn't make me crave carbs so once I eat whatever is made with it I am done. Most times I can only eat one slice, which is a great thing ;)

Pamela I burp eggs when I eat them boiled unless they are warm, so I know what you mean. Glad your stomach is feeling better and it was just late eating :) On the PB2, I'd mix a serving and taste it (mine is probably expired also) but I don't typically throw things away just because of a date, unless I can clearly see it is bad :) Well ... regarding your friends thinking this is a guy diet, you'll have to show them different ;) and when they see you looking good (better than ever) they'll want to do it too :) Some of my friends from when I first started on 3FC formed a group FB but none of them with the exception of one and me still post on 3FC. I think most feel it's one or the other, idk  and some may feel FB is too personal. Just my thoughts :)

Well like I said to Jacqui I gained her 1.5lb loss and Missy's .6 ... I know it's sodium though. My son made fried chicken thighs and they were too salty but I wanted it and continued to eat. My other son made fries and I ate 5 with ketchup, a :no-no: I know ... but this way I don't need a cheat day because I already need to drop 2.4lbs plus some to show a loss this week. TOM didn't last long and even though I feel lighter and my clothes are baggy. My pants are really looking bad and don't have money for new ones at the moment but I guess it would be stupid to buy all new clothes only to not be able to fit those also. Can't win, sigh!

Rennie, I have read that coconut oil is good for baking because it has the same rich consistency and taste as butter. But olive oil should work fine as a substitute. It might have a slightly different taste but the consistency should be the same. It has the same number of calories and overall fat grams as coconut oil but fewer saturated fat grams (although recent studies say saturated fat is not the evil it was once thought to be), and both have 0 cholesterol.

I'll write more later Everyone. I just don't feel well tonight. :(

Hope everyone starts to feel better!!! Be gentle with yourself.

Rennie you will lose that water weight for sure! I didn't really take a cheat day this past weekend (just a couple of small cheat items), and I'm glad I didn't and got back on track, so I understand. But it's only Wed so you never know! If your cheat day is Saturday, you may lose that water weight! :crossed::crossed:

I've heard about coconut oil when reading healthy recipes, but I don't remember the details. Let us know if you use it. I think it is a paste consistency and you melt it down. Like a crisko(sp?) consistency.

I had half of a 6" sub roll last night with lunch meat when I came home and that satisfied my craving. My calories and carbs still weren't high for the day, and I hit the gym.

I weighed in at 146.8 this morning, which is an all time low since I've started this! :D

I think given my recent success I'll just carry on and not try the Carb Cycle program, and will get some low carb bread when the craving strikes. If I platuau then I'll try the carb cycling.

Pamela, it was really hard for me to find any details on the carb amounts. One site mentioned less than 30g carbs on low carb days, and up to 150g on high carb days.

1) Chef's Finest Garlic Pepper Crispy Onions, Total Carb 4, sugars 0. I found this in the croutons section, $1.32
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Chef-s-Finest-Garlic-Pepper-Crispy-Onions-4-oz/19767429

2) Lawry's 30-Minute Marinade Steak & Chop with Garlic and Cracked Black Pepper, 1 Carb, 0 Sugar, $1.98
http://www.walmart.com/ip/10449020?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=3&adid=22222222227010090978&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=41960464270&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=40001772670&veh=sem

I used the marinade tonight with my grilled chicken, actually, I mixed it with a 1/2 serving on Ranch Dressing to make a nice creamy dip for the Chicken and then I used the cruncy onions on my salad.. both very good!

Hi all, sorry I have been MIA lately. Not been feeling well and it's been soooo cold! Too cold even for a bath which is when I usually post from my phone, with waterproof case of course, or the middle of the night from my kindle when not sleeping. But been sleeping, (thanks NyQuil!), and haven't had many baths because its been so cold that we've had to leave all the taps dripping, including the hot taps.Makes for a lukewarm bath in morning, a curse of an old home and winter weather that seems to be trying to kill you! Was -27 F when I woke up this morning and -24 when I left for work. That is just miserable!!! (This ex So Cal Girl was dressed up like the biggest, puffiest Stay-Puff Marshmellowman you ever saw!!!!)

Even skipped WW last night. Had to take my hubby to get his car from the shop after work, was feeling pretty bad, and it was -16 by the time I got home, and I would have been 20 min late to WW so decided I could skip this week. Anyway, hoping to feel better tomorrow. Still feel drained. I think the really cold weather just takes it out of you. Will also have to start the diet proper again after the weekend, or maybe before depending on how I feel. Just don't feel like veggies and meat. Just toast or some soup. Don't think I've really done that bad but haven't been on the scale in a little over a week and haven't been necessarily eating low carb, but at least low carb/ low cal whole grain breads. Seems the only thing I can stomach. ( oh yeah - I did have some pizza a few night ago. Pretty sure it was't OP!) Need to have a very restful weekend, feel better and start anew.

Hope you all are doing well, and those under the weather are feeling better!

Well, I haven't gotten back to my ticker weight yet, but I think it's close enough that I'm not going to move it back up after all. Hopefully, I'm back on track now to keep losing. I don't know why I had the sudden jump up. Hormones I guess (and TOM still hasn't come)! :dunno:

Anyway, I sure hope you start feeling better (and warmer) soon! :getwell:

Good evening all. TGIF for sure!! I had some early meetings this morning so no exercise. I will do some tomorrow. We started a biggest loser competition in work. About 10 of us joined up, so that's fun at lunch time. I had briefly toyed with the idea of not having cheat days for a while!! Tomorrow is cheat day and I'm soooo looking forward to it. Definitely going to enjoy some off program treats.
Lashing rain all day here today. At least it's Friday. I love Fridays. Have a good evening everyone, I will probably watch the Winter Olympics opening ceremony.

Catching up from the 5th ...

Thanks Jacqui :), I bought some coconut oil today after tasting brownies made with it that a co-worker brought in today. I'm sorry to hear you are feeling well. I have to keep reading ... sending Gods healing power your way  Look at you go 169, you are working it out :high:

TwoTots, your meals looked good and good job on staying on plan with a head cold, I hope you are feeling better also  Well sounds like you're better and I love the excitement in your post :)

Thanks Missy :) I bought some coconut oil today. You're right it is like Crisco. I'm gonna try one of the recipes tomorrow after work if I'm not too tired :) Congratulations on your new low, WAY TO GO :high: I have the carb information at the bottom of my signature but I think it was from a diabetic website, but it does make sense :)

Pamela, chicken salad YUM :) I've been wanting some here lately, just need to buy the stuff to make it ;)

Steph, sorry about the cold weather, hope you get better soon.

McSurf, good job on the 13lbs GONE :yay: Keep up the good work :high:

Where are the guys?

I'm here ... had an issue with vulgar pop ups so had to use a new browser to avoid them. I had an OP start of the day and them lunch was an Asian meal at work. I did well ate all protein (no rice or noodles) and then I decided I wanted fries. I only ate a third of them. I gave a third to a co-worker and thanks to finally listening to the full voice in my head I threw a third in the garbage :yay: then after running around with the kids I ate a slice and a half of cheese pizza. Cheat today was today. Tomorrow and Sunday will kick start my behind back into gear.

2/6 ~ 169.8
2/7 ~ 170.2 (+0.4) cheat day
2/8 ~

so far I have not lost anything for the month of February, smh. I've got to do better.

I hope and pray that everyone that's not feeling well gets better soon

Yes!!! TGIF for sure! Ugh!!! It was supposed to be a low of only -6, (can't believe I just said "only" to -6!), but woke up to -14 degrees! So NOT right!!! Oh well, can't fight Mother Nature... but I'm pretty sure she's trying to kill us sometimes!

TwoTots- how fun! A biggest loser contest! I did one a few years ago through my gym. Didn't win but it sure did spur me on to lose a lot more weight! ( I may be a little competitive.) Good luck! :)

Welcome McSurf! You're doing great!!! So glad you've joined us! Keep going! You're inspiring!!! :)

Hi Jaqcui, Rennie and Pamela! Thanks for the well wishes. Plan on some indoor R&R this weekend, which should help. Only going out for a movie with my daughter, which I already promised. Besides that, I have a freelance art project to finish due on Monday, so that will keep me warm and inside for most the weekend. It's supposed to snow most of the weekend, which actually is a warming trend! (So unfathomable for a So Cal girl!!!)

Stay warm and toasty all! And sweet dreams of beautiful, warm places like Hawaii and the Caribbean!! Oh yeah, and Florida! (I know it was in the 80s there McSurf! You don't mind if we all come visit you, do you?!??? :)

Well... I've gained 1 pound.. I don't understand... so in three weeks I've only lost .6.. not sure I can keep this up.... Maybe full Atkins would be better for me? Or some of you that have seen my meals, what do I need to change, fat maybe? Stop eating the beans, which I honestly haven't eaten too many of them.. I don't know..

My Meals Friday 2/7/14:

Before Bfast - Cheese Stix
B - 2 Eggs Turkey Sausage with refried beans
S - None
L - Beans and the Inside of a Bean burrito (minus the rice) from Taco Bell
S - Pork Rines

I would skip the beans for awhile, Pamela. See what happens. I know I gain weight if I eat too many beans. Couldn't hurt to try and see what happens. If you really want to lose fast, go very low carb and very low cal with no cheat days, something like Ideal Protein, however their products are very concentrated proteins with low cal, usually powdered and YUCKY!!! It's hard to stick to long term and a very expensive program. IMO, better to eat real foods and lose slower, but maybe mimicking the program with real foods that are very low carbs and and very low calories would reap similar, if a bit slower, results. (?) then take a cheat day once you hit a plateau to jog your metabolism a bit.

But my disclaimer is: I'm not an expert and I've only lost 2.5 lbs in the last 3 weeks... But admittedly, I haven't been very good at being on plan. Since starting WW 3 weeks ago, I have been indulging in whole wheat/low carb bread products and hadn't had any bread products for a while before that while on IP. I love eating some whole wheat bread or tortillas now and then, and enjoying the occasional cheat day or meal, so think for now I'll stay the course and lose slow but steady. No emergency coming up like a bathing suit vacation, (darn it!)

Steph enjoy your movie time with your daughter :) and good on you with the weather, I can't even imagine those types of temperatures  How long have you lived there? Steph I like the idea you gave Pamela sounds good and like a plan ;)

Pamela I have no clue what you could change. I'm sure when Jacqui logs in she'll have some advice. I do think full Atkins, SB or Dukan will definitely get you started. I know the only reason why January was great for me is cutting out everything. I am trying to pick that back up again since I seem to be at a stall. :)

abdelfattah :wel3fc: and to the thread :) You're off to a great start eating that way. :high: and the only way to avoid the potato is to avoid it. The substitute is cauliflower. Best of luck to you :)

Hi Everyone! I am on the mend but it sure is slow-going! I'm sure it's not helping that we keep alternating between snow and 0-degree weather here, although compared to Steph, I have no room to complain! :snowglo:

Sorry I didn't get on to post yesterday. It was a very busy day right from the get-go. I weighed in at 169 again and I ate Quaker Oats Cinnamon and Spice Instant Oatmeal with 2 bananas for breakfast, although it was more like brunch-time. I didn't have lunch. Late afternoon, hubby and I went to a Bob Evans Restaurant and if you don't have those where you are, the closest comparison is Cracker Barrel. They serve comfort food. I ate ALL carbs, lol! I had chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes and biscuits. Then I had a cinnamon roll for dessert! And of course, that just triggered carb cravings, so even though I was stuffed, a couple of hours later, I started eating mint chocolate candy and chocolate-covered nuts. No one can accuse me of not going all-out on cheat days, lol! I'm lucky I only gained 1.5 lbs, especially since I didn't sleep. I woke up at 1:30 coughing and hacking from this chest cold I have and never went back to sleep. Right now, I am exhausted, and my day's about to get busy. But the good news is I apparently got enough sleep to reset my carb switch because I'm not hungry or craving carbs today! :crossed:

2/14:

Today's Meals:
Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs, a teapot of green tea, Mio water
Lunch: turkey slices, salad with ranch dressing, Diet Dr. Pepper
Snack: almonds, Diet Dr. Pepper
Dinner: perch fillets, green beans, salad with ranch dressing, water, black tea

Hi Abdelfattah! :welcome: So glad you've joined us! If you feel compelled to stick with potatoes, you might to see if you can get by with sweet potatoes. They have a lower glycemic index than regular potatoes. And as Rennie mentioned, cauliflower is often the substitute for potatoes in cooking. You can make mock mashed potatoes with cauliflower.

Rennie, potatoes and pizza are your nemesis, girlie, lol! I do believe you have as big of an addiction to them as I have to chocolate and pumpkin! But hey, good for you only eating 1/3 of those fries! :cp: And there's no "if" you can keep a good day going today. Of course you can! It's a choice! :D Let us know how the recipes with coconut oil turn out!

Pamela, I agree with Steph that beans might be the culprit. I went back and looked at my meals when I gained for no apparent reason and it seemed to start on the days that I ate black beans. I then also had white beans and baked beans during that time (and also split pea soup, and peas are kind of like beans). I typically do not eat beans except for green beans and also kidney beans in chili. I did have chili this week and the kidney beans didn't seem to bother me, but I do wonder about the black beans and white beans, if they affected my weight. I was eating canned versions and they are not as low glycemic index and they probably have quite a bit of sodium as well. I don't know, I'm just guessing, but I think I'm going to stay away from beans (except green beans and kidney beans in chili) for a while. You might take a break from them and see if it makes a difference. :dunno:

Oh, and Steph :nono: on the bread, lol! :D

TwoTots, I hope you enjoyed your cheat day! :hungry: And how nice that your co-workers and you do a Biggest Loser competition at lunch! That would be very motivational! :exercise:

Good morning everyone. Pamela it is so disheartening to not lose when you are sticking to a plan. I like the advice from sunlover to do a low carb, no beans, real food plan that mirrors IP. This plan can be like that if you leave out the beans and nuts. Jacqui, your cheat day sounds yummy. Mine was too. Sunday morning is the hardest part of this diet for me. Trying to pull back from carbs after eating them on cheat day. But, that's the tough dieting part, diets are not supposed to be easy peasy. Eating rings around yourself is easy peasy!!! But that just leads to hating yourself for not being strong. So, as someone's motto says ....Being fat is hard, dieting is hard, choose your hard.... At least sticking to a diet makes you feel great about yourself. I do have many moments of relapse on this diet but I keep going and those moments are getting fewer. Good luck everyone.
Pamela, I drink a protein shake every morning. i love it, it's something I liked when I was following an IP type of diet. Some days when I have had a larger, bean laden lunch I would have a shake for dinner too. My protein chocolate protein shake contains, spinach, coffee, chis seeds, ice and water. So there are some super foods in there too. It's large and it's filling. I hope you find some plan to fit. Maybe go back to basics and begin with an induction week of SB or Atkins. good luck. Let us know what you plan to do.

Jacqui, glad to hear you are feeling better  I'm sorry you didn't get enough rest that would drive me nuts. I haven't had anymore of either. Oh yes I did. I like spicy so I picked up some Buffalo chips. I have been eating a few each night and only a few because I will only eat the ones that have a lot of Buffalo spice on them. I haven't had any today and don't plan on it. I'm done eating for the day. :) Jacqui I hope the whoosh fairy comes to visit us all :crossed:

TwoTots, I was putting spinach in some of my smoothies also. It changes the color but not the taste at all, I like that :) I am trying to get back to basics. I having tough time some days but I'm trying :)

My weight yesterday and today was the same 171.8. Hoping to get back into the 160's by the weekend. My mom has moved her date to come down to this Friday instead of next so my goal of getting to 165-160 isn't gonna happen unless I starve myself. And we know that's not gonna happen ;)

B ~ protein shake
L ~ Atkins meal bar, Kroger carbmaster pumpkin pie yogurt
S ~ Kroger 94% ff popcorn 1/3 bag
D ~ 10 shrimp wrapped in 1/2 sl. bacon, eaten separately (the bacon wouldn't cook fully while wrapped)

sunlover12
02-12-2014, 12:38 AM
Rennie-please don't starve yourself for the visit. Take it from someone who's been there. No one will notice if you lost just one more pound. What they will notice is if you look weak, sick and not well. However, if you feel and look healthy and well rested, and if you feel good about the progress that you've made thus far, and you feel confident about how you plan to go on in the future, they will notice how well you are doing! You SHINE when you feel good! And everyone, including your mother, will notice the positive change in you.

IMO - concentrate on being healthy, OP, and well rested. Better than being 1 lb lighter, feeling weak, unwell, and not fully enjoying your mother's visit. Let her see our Rennie! The one who's going for it and getting healthier a day at a time. :)

Just checking-in. Thank you for your welcome! I am having a hard time at night staying away from food! My husband and I are redoing our recently purchased condo and it has been hard work. Anyways.. I might do Atkins and stay on induction for a few weeks and see what happens... since Sunday I haven't had any beans, so when Saturday comes, we'll see what the scales say...

I hope everyone is doing well!!

Steph, thanks for your comment and concern  I appreciate it. :) Actually I'm not hungry as long as the protein is up to par ;). I have found that when I snack I am hungrier during the evening, not good as long as I can stay away from the junk at work I'm ok. I got the Atkins book in the mail on Monday and I think I am going to try the meal plan listed for a few a week or two with my modifications because there are some things that I don't like on there. But I do want to see if I can handle that much food in a day. I wish I was home for about a week then I could eat like I need to without worry. I miss being at home.

McSurf, what is your ministry about? Congrats on your condo :)

Pamela, I'm sorry this diet isn't working for you. Maybe you just need to tweak it a little more, idk. I think that my issue is not making it to the gym. I do much better when I can get my 4 mile walk done :)

Good morning everyone. I haven't managed to exercise this week. Bummer! My 16 year old nephew is staying with me and it makes for a busier morning. I will be back to normal next week. Things are moving slowly, 2 more days to Saturday weigh in. Come on whoosh fairy. I want to hit goal 1 by Feb 28th. Game on. I have just put an app on my phone, it's a weight tracker. tactio weight tracker, it lets you set target goals for weight loss, not a food tracker. Have a good day everyone.

Rennie~

We own and operate a Christian Retreat right on the Gulf of Mexico! Our summers are full of youth groups and then we have college, singles, ladies/men and youth retreats on weekends the rest of the year.

Life is good here in FL and the condo is just 3.5 miles down the road across the street from the beach. Praying the bank loans the money to the couple who has a contract on it. They are young and have lots of energy! This place needs that!

Did better tonight with eating. Did have sunflower seeds!

Have a breakfast date with hubby in the morning. Best meal to eat out and do low carb!

Oh are we all ladies on this forum? Or do we have some guys?

Hi Peeps!
I lost 3.4 lbs at WW this week! Yeah!!!!! :dancer: Actually it was for 2 weeks since I didn't go last week. Was my 1st miss, but had to take hubby to pick up his mega truck, and when we finally got home, we would have been really late... plus it was the coldest day of the year, around -25 degrees and I felt like I was dying from frostbite!!!! Literally frozen toes, fingers and nose! I was wearing my hubby's coat OVER my coat, 2 sweaters, a ridiculous fluffy hat/scarf combo with built in mittens, (yeah, really!), and I looked like the biggest Stay-puff Marshmellow Man you ever saw!!!! But So Cal Girl lived through it! (Maybe the secret to weight loss is FREEZING!!!!! I don't recommend it.)

Rennie/Pamela- Atkins, as you know, is low carb, but not necessarily low cal. You lose weight but I don't know how healthy it is. Being a vegetarian for so long, I tried it when others said I would lose big time, but found it was too much meat for me and I didn't feel good. (But others love it!) South Beach is healthier because you eat a more balanced diet, but you lose weight slower. My brother did great on it! Extreme hi protein/low carb plans like IP should be medically monitored because you are eating at such a deficit that it could be dangerous, but you do lose fastest. (But at what costs?) And it's hard long term, and many say you gain easily after going back to regular eating.

It is said that the Mediterranean diet is the best for health, and like SB and WW, more well rounded in veggies, lean meat, etc, and easier in the long haul.

(Where is Gary with the stats!)

I think like stated in the beginning here, just find what works for you and tweak it here and there - try to make your own diet regimen. And then get support here. No one here cares how you do it, they just want to help you along the way. :)

For me- I've tried them all and know what I SHOULD eat! But the trick is to keep doing what you know you should. So, I'm just trying to eat around 80% healthy with an emphasis on lower/better carbs and higher protein, more veggies, some fruit, (I will have to eat more fruits in summer - love them), and a cheat meal once or twice a week, and maybe a cheat snack or 2, but not a full all out cheat day or really bad cheat meals.

Not a real plan I guess, but it seems to be working for me, albeit slower and steadier. But as I said, different plans work for different people. I knew someone who had great long term success just by starting a new diet every week. She got bored easily. But in doing so kept losing weight in the forefront of her mind, her excitement up, and probably kept her metabolism guessing!

Whatever works for you! :)

Congrats Sunlover 3.4lbs lbs fantastic!! Well done. My scale on the other hand is up 2! Bummer. I like your post about finding what works. I'm trying low carb but my I think my calorie take is too much. Sunlover are you following the WW points system but trying to keep your eating slowcarb? Are you racking up your points using lower carb foods? I'm going to try a new approach. Low carb and be mindful of calories, no more nut snacks or PB in the evenings. It's hard (for me) to measure peanut butter from a jar. Cheat day is tomorrow so I will skip it. Todays food

BF: protein shake, choc protein, chia seeds, spinach coffee, stevia water.
snack: protein shake
Lunch: 4 chicken legs with salad (may have one of these legs for a snack)
Dinner: 1 beef burger with turnip
snack: protein bar,
green tea, green tea, green tea (my new mantra) water water water.

:val1: HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYONE:val1:

Thanks Steph again for the pep talk :) :congrat: on the 3.4lbs GONE :high: I find that when I do low carb my calories are low and I do get full quicker on all protein so I can't eat 1300 calories of meat. When I add some carby stuff in the calories add up quickly but I feel like I haven't done as well. I try to keep it low carb for my blood sugar. What I would like nice is if I had a menu compiled of things that I like between 50 to 100 carbs at 1330 calories a day. I have yet to find that balance :)

TwoTots your meals for the day look good :)

Jacqui, how are you?

down .8 today weighing in at 169 and my carbs were really high at 207 for the day ... interesting

Tonight, I held my own....did have some Valentine Chocolate, but I believe it was fit for the occasion! Had a healthy breakfast date with hubby:val2:, a very light lunch and then a wonderful Dinner at church tonight with 75 happy people. You see, my hubby & I won a door prize, a large Hersey chocolate kiss and a coffee mug with an adorable stuffed owl! Now you know why "the chocolate"!

As you can see, I am a night owl!

Happy Saturday

Aw McSurf, I love romance :) Our church function was cancelled due to the weather. But I still enjoyed an evening with my husband and our youngest. My husband works second shift. When I get home he's gone and when he gets home I'm sleep. He had taken off for the function and I didn't want to go out in the ice :) I use to be a night owl ... it's quite then ;)

Jacqui you have me worried, is everything ok?

Missy, Pamela, Gary, dt and Joe ... hope all is well.

well my gain was only .6 so back on track today. Calories and carbs will be lower and hopefully totally on point.

Wondering how everyone is doing? Hope you are all ok! So, i didn't skip cheat day, indulged today and enjoyed it. Back on a different track tomorrow. I'm going back to basics myself and am going to follow a low carb low calorie plan. I need to kick start this weightloss. I will follow an IP type of food plan for a while. Then introduce some nuts, beans, hummus, avocados, cottage chess back in a couple of weeks. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hi all, hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's day! I did just ok. We had Mexican food and I ordered beef fajitas with corn tortillas, which I had 2, but I REALLY LOVE flour tortillas and can eat a bunch of them, so didn't get those. Had no rice and only a little retried beans. Also had a few chips with salsa, which I love, love, LOVE!!!! (So bad! But I didn't have many.) But my biggest cheat was the margaritas, of which I had 2! So wonderful, but didn't eat lunch so was hoping the calories would balance out a little better. ( I know, not a great diet plan but it was a holiday.) My daughter made chocolate mousse with strawberries for dessert which I had a little of but was too stuffed to endulge in too much. Had some strawberries this morning though! Yumm!!! Although still a little early in the season for them to be really good, at least up in the frozen north!

Twotots- no, I don't follow the WW point system, or any real plan. I go to WW mostly for my daughter, but also because the weekly weigh-in keeps me accountable and on somewhat of a plan. I start panicking when I have only 4 days until weigh-in, then 3, then 2, and then that day I am REALLY OP, only 1 day until weigh-in! I made laminated countdown cards for my fridge and pantry with the days until weigh-in count down which also have pictures of what I should be doing that day, like the weekend has pictures of chopping veggies and cooking good foods, Monday exercising, Tuesday ( the night before weigh-in!) has a scale to remind me of what I eat because the next day is weigh-in!!!

As far as a plan, I don't count calories or carbs (or pints), I just try in general to eat low carbs/good carbs and low calories most of the time. I try for 80% OP. When I have carbs, I try for at least good carbs and will have some beans, legumes and whole grains, but not much because I know I will gain weight if I eat too much, do try to stick to more meat and veggies. I also love fruit, but eat more of that in summer than winter. What I have been loving lately are those mini red, orange and yellow peppers which you can just eat like fruit and are sweet and delicious enough without any dip! They have carbs but I figure they are so healthy that they must be good carbs. Carrots and hummus are also delicious, as well a celery sticks with that yogurt spinach artichoke dip from Costco. So yummy!!!!

So basically just trying to eat low or good carbs + low cal 80% of the time. Then I'll have a somewhat cheat meal a few days a week, (like Wed night after WW and Fri night as a reward for getting through the work week!), but not all out cheat days because they make me gain too much plus seem to spur more cravings. I know they work for many, but for me, I have to cheat smaller to keep losing and not get off track. And the official weekly WW weigh in keeps me in line. If not for that, I'd cheat more telling myself that I'll just do better tomorrow. But tomorrow leads to another tomorrow... and so on... and so on...

I hate having to pay to have someone weigh me as a way to stay OP, but it does seem to keep me in line. Silly, huh? But whatever works!

Holding my own, weight wise. Guess the chocolate wasn't a big deal!

Yes, my hubby and I are the romantic type! We have been married 32 years! My first husband died from an accident when I was 33 yrs and we had a 9 yr old little girl. Perhaps that is the reason I so appreciate my guy and want him to know how much I love him! Time can be too short and I don't want to miss all the great things now and ahead for us! Together we raised his two and mine! Now we have 8 grandchildren to enjoy and pray over!

Hope you all have a good Valentine's Day!

Good morning everyone. Sunlover thank you for your answer, it sounds like you have a great thing going. Well done. i too love frozen margritas but usually I drink them when it's a big special night out with girlfriends and we don't stop at 2!!! I'm mixing my plan up again. I'm eating foods that have too many triggers for me so I'm going to try an IP plan again. I said I wouldn't do it again, its so restrictive but really I had great results following it. I just need to do the phases properly, then introduce more slow carb food into my diet. I'm always trying! I'm hoping something sticks. That's a very sweet post MCSurf. Have a lovely Sunday all.

hi everyone!

i am starting the modified slow carb diet today. i say modified because i have not read the book, but i have read parts of this thread and the previous thread and will probably do the diet like Jacqui_D.

i just found out about slow carb yesterday, by stumbling across this thread while doing some kind of web search.

i have done Atkins in the past. i never ate beans while doing Atkins so adding beans to slow carb scares me. but i know that Atkins works for weight loss. it also helps me be able to mentally focus better on my computer work.

i have been doing the Metablosim Miracle Diet and it is fantastic for stabilizing my blood sugar. i have reactive hypoglycemia and the Metabolism Miracle gives me so much physical energy and motivation. but it does not work as well for me for mental focus as Atkins.

the downfall of the metabolism miracle is that you are supposed to eat a small amount of carbs at each meal, which is hard to do when I love carbs so much. so it is easier for me to have no carbs or pig out...which is why slow carb looks great to me.

another diet that i have tried and works is the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet. this diet is great of you want to lose very slow or maintain your weight because you can have a cheat day every day...but the loss is very slow and if you mess up you can gain weight easily. so i will be going back to CAD after i lose a bunch of weight on slow carb.

so today is my first day. i has 2 sausages for breakfast. only 11 grams of protein and i feel full.

i will set up my weight loss thingie at the bottom later today. I would like to lose 23lbs before i go back to Carbohydrate Addicts Diet.

I actually even do a modified Carbohydrate Addict +Metabolism Miracle method to maintain, but i'll get in to that later. it is is not good for loss, only maintenance and if you mess up you gain...which is why i want to do slow carb for a while :)

:welcome: Belief! It's good to have you join us! We look forward to seeing your progress!

Hi All! I'm sorry I haven't been on in the last few days! I have been very busy and haven't been online at all. I am staying on plan though. I've continued to weigh 170 each morning, except today (the day after cheat day). I weigh 172.5 today. TOM is visiting...kinda...so I imagine that's why my weight is staying where it is. Believe it or not, I have still not gotten completely rid of this cold, but it is much better!

Thanks for the welcome Jacqui :)

a quick note about what i remember about Atkins...

if i ate a lot of nuts, i would lose slower.

if i ate a lot of sweet diet junk like jello, candy, and soft drinks, i would lose slower.

i mention this in case anyone is losing slower than they were hoping, it may be caused by those two items.

on slow carb i will take it easy on the nuts and will completely stay away from sweet diet junk of any kind.

it will be difficult for me to not eat cheese though. on Atkins, cheese was a great addition to meals and also worked for snacking. anyone eating cheese on slow carb and having success?

the one thing i can't give up which was completely OK on Atkins...and i think it may be OK on slow carb too, is decaf coffee with heavy cream. i know on slow carb all dairy is off limits, but i have also read some places here and there that heavy cream is OK on slow carb. if anyone knows if the heavy cream is a definite nono, please let me now.

Steph I absolutely love your Valentine's dinner along with everything else that you eat :D. I am in agreement with the small cheat versus a large also. :) and not silly at all to pay someone to weigh you if it keeps you OP also it motivates your daughter also, I hope :) yes whatever works :high:

McSurf, you're a romantic :) I love it :) glad the chocolate didn't do any damage :)

TwoTots, please post your meals while on IP, I'm interested to see what you'd eat. Thanks :)

belief :wel3fc: and to the thread :) please continue to post your meals. I like seeing what everyone is eating it gives me ideas since I'm pretty picky I can choose the things that I like using someone else's ideas :) belief, I think we all eat nuts, they'll correct me if I'm wrong. I measure out 1/4 cup only and I also eat 2 tbsps of peanut butter as a snack but never late in the evening. I don't eat the s/f jello that often. I think I have only had it once with some reddi whip and I didn't have a problem. Also I believe we all eat a little cheese, mostly a little shredded. That is one of our modifications. I have done wonderfully and hope to continue the trend through February. I just have to bread past 168 which has been my low this go around :crossed: Jacqui will have to answer the cream question. IDK about that. Though I did have two cups of coffee on Thursday since I was snowed in an it didn't pose a problem. I used sugar free caramel macchiato in both cups with some soy milk added :)

Jacquiiiiiiiiii :D I am so happy to see you  Happy to hear everything is good and you were just busy  Sorry that cold is still lingering and TOM is trying to visit, the two together equal misery, smh. I pray they are both gone soon

ok I had a surprising weigh in this morning 168.4. I looked at the scale and thought WOW. I've got to continue this trend I don't want to gain all of the weight back ever again. I want to stay in the 160's not go back to the 170's and move through them with ease (as long as I stay OP):)

Hi and welcome Belief!
And thank goodness you're back Jacqui! We missed you!!!

So I chopped more veggies and made a kinda horrible soup last night. Is a veggie/leak soup that is supposed to help you lose weight. You're supposed to eat it 3 times a day but no way I can eat it that much, so just hoping a cup while I'm preparing dinner will help, because that's when I get home and want to eat everything in the house!!!

sunlover12
02-16-2014, 11:28 PM
And yes two tots - I also had some IP packets left so threw them in, (2 chicken soup packets and 2 puréed potatoes packets), with all of the veggies I had, (leeks, onions, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, kale, carrots, celery, etc.) came out really strong veggie smelling/tasting but we'll see if I can handle it. I have a big event that I want to wear an outfit for that I haven't been able to fit in, but I'm close so hoping I'll be able to this year. Maybe sipping this veggie brew/ soup will help.

sunlover12
02-16-2014, 11:53 PM
Two tots- are you doing the full IP? I think for the next two weeks I'll be doing mostly IP also. Have many packets left, and as I said, want to lose some more weight in the next few weeks, before March 8. Not bathing suit important but an event with a good enough excuse to give me some incentive. Let's see how much we can lose!!!

Anyone else want to try, just try to eat very low carb and hi protein!

D-i was very full until about 9 pm so i has a little steak and some pinto beans before bed
(about 2 large cups of decaf with a bunch of heavy cream sipped throughout the day, during meals i drink water)

i need to learn more about the slow carb diet. as of now my plan is basically do Atkins 6 days a week, and binge on the 7th day. I will add more legumes than i did while on atkins too.

B-protein drink (Living Fuel Greens)
L-2 eggs, 2 large hot dog style sausages, mixed with pinto beans
S-over indulged about an hour after Lunch on 1/2 Peruvian chicken, cole slaw
D-another 1/2 of chicken
(about 2 large cups of decaf with a bunch of heavy cream sipped throughout the day, during meals i drink water)

lost 1 lb yesterday.

usually when going low carb i have withdrawals and anxiety.

i think the beans added really makes a difference. i feel no withdrawal or anxiety so far.

the beans also make the meals much more interesting.

my brain is functioning better now too. maybe it was the sugar and starch, and not just plain carbs that gave me the reactive hypoglycemia and brain fog.

of course, Atkins always helped my reactive hypoglycemia, but it was very tough to stick to long term.

Hi all! Sorry I haven't been online for the last few days. I fell off plan. Was sick, snowed in, and then went away last weekend. Went back on plan Sunday and I was surprised that after being off plan for 7 days I only gained 2 pounds (well, as of this morning after eating slow carb last two days).

Unfortunately this is just days before I leave for the Carribean and I haven't lost nearly as much as I was hoping before leaving. Oh well. I will continue my diet this week, next week I will enjoy my vacation to the fullest, and when I return I'll go back to my diet and lose the weight I'm likely to gain. :D

Oh! Welcome Belief!! :welcome2:

I completely agree! When I did Atkins the first week was ok and I lost a lot of water weight, but then I had continual headaches and feel so fatigued and off. This slow carb diet with beans really does help with this issue! My little trick is to have those carbs (beans, and in my case I also have greek yogurt/blueberry/sprinkling of granola snack) in the morning/afternoon, and then a low carb dinner.

At least that is my plan......er, when I don't go off diet for 7 days! :yikes: Yikes!

Belief I never heard of the Living Fuel Greens drink. Is that something you can buy or do you make it? Does it have protein and also made with greens. Sounds super healthy!

belief

missy, am i allowed to share a link? just google "living fuel".

it is super healthy and all one really needs. like 28gs of protein 2 scoops (meal serving). i usually do one scoop for breakfast. some people think the taste is horrible. they do make a fruit version too but i prefer the greens version

i have a friend who is a distributor and i can get it for cost.

todays meals:

B-1 scoop living fuel greens drink
L-3 eggs. some refried beans (not sure if this is ok), and some salsa
D-late lunch/early dinner 3 eggs, sour cream and salsa
S-1 scoop living fuel greens drink before 7pm bball
D2-Late Dinner around 10 pm 2 eggs, some cheese, salsa, sour cream and 3 pieces of bacon
(about 2 large cups of decaf with a bunch of heavy cream sipped throughout the day, during meals i drink water)

down 2.5lbs from yesterday...but i guess that is mostly water weight even though i ate late

Hi all!

Well tomorrow is WW weigh in. Don't feel like I've lost much but will see tomorrow. My scale seems to differ from theirs.

Rennie- the soup I made consisted of a bunch of veggies (including leeks, broccoli, cauliflower and kale) cooked together and then blended smooth in a blender. Most probably the worst soup I've ever made! Yuk! Really strong veggie taste!!! I've tried it a few days after work and always switch to cut up veggies, which is good, but hate to toss it. I hate wasting food but this is something that even the dogs won't eat! Oh well, will try again with another this weekend. I'm a pretty good cook so it's rare no one will eat it!

Had an Atkins frozen egg entree for breakfast, (thought I'd try it but it was pretty yucky), a chocolate Pure Protein shake for lunch, (which I think was better than EAS), and a double chicken chopped salad from Subway for dinner with only vinegar for dressing. (Really, REALLY wanted a Big Pastrami on some nice warm bread!!!!) Very busy day with no time for cooking.

Will let you know how weigh in goes tomorrow.

Have a great day tomorrow Peeps!

Thanks Belief, I'll google it. I like the idea of having a shake that combines protein and veggies!

Good luck Steph with weigh in! What you listed as having eaten sounds very on target so I'm sure you'll have a loss! I usually make my shakes in the morning, but no time or almond milk this morning and had a pure protein in my fridge. They are delish!

TwoTots it is sooooo easy to over snack on hummus, gauac, etc. Ugh! I'm hungry now just thinking of them because they are so delish.

I had a 7am dentist appt this morning and forgot to weigh in. I did really well limiting my carbs and calories though, so I think it might be good. I still need to make my turkey veggie chili so I get in my slow carbs during the day. Will do so tonight!

Well done Mc Smurf! You must be looking and feeling great. Day 4 for my new plan. I'm counting daily because I'm trying to be so careful. Sorry, about the gaining TwoTots!

Oops...I went up a bit, too but what goes up, MUST come down!!!!

It's a crazy day here! We were going to the condo to finish up some closets, but the water main turn-off valve was leaking and my hubby had to "dig-in" and fix it. After 3 hours and new parts, he had it fixed like new for only $29.00 in parts! So glad my hubby is so talented!

It gave me time to fix an oriental dish. Veggies and sauce were great, but the fried rice cost a bit on the carbs. Hubby was happy! And that makes me happy.

Breakfast was Yogurt with chia seeds, protein, extra fiber and blueberries.
Lunch was a hot ham w/cheese on dark rye.

Will do better tomorrow. Remember, I said, "Today was crazy!"

Have a great night!

(2 decaf with heavy cream)

i was more hungry today than the last few days and eating more too

i gained 1 lb. i think the late burrito bowl w tons of meat and beans did it. but considering how much i ate, 1 lb is not bad

Hi, my peeps! :grouphug: I really am going to have to start getting up ealier or something! I miss y'all!

This is my 2nd time writing all this! I had explained what all was going on with me and had almost all my personals written out and absent-mindedly clicked on another page to verify what one of you had written and lost it all. :tantrum: Oh well! So here I go again, lol!

I am on my 2nd week of TOM. Not fun. I've had cravings for chocolate and sweets like crazy but have stuck to the diet. I'm not sure with such strong TOM cravings, though, that I've made the right decision, because I have overeaten on other things, mainly nuts, which is not good, in an effort to offset those cravings. Even during my meals I've gone back for seconds, and let's face it, excess calories, no matter the type, cause weight gain. Because I've been overeating and I've been bloated with TOM for days (and days), I have not weighed in the last few days. I was stuck at 170-172 before that, but with all the food I've been eating, it's probably gone up. I've also not been drinking as much water or tea as usual because I've been on the go and I tend to grab a Diet Dr. Pepper when I'm running around. And I haven't been exercising because physically I've been miserable and I've been really busy. Anyway, once TOM subsides some, I'll weigh again and we'll see! Tomorrow is cheat day, and yes, I'm taking it! I am just dying for chocolate. I considered just going ahead and having chocolate and sweets this past week, but would that really have caused me not to overeat on other things or would I have just overeaten on chocolate and sweets and jumped back into the high-carb cycle? Anyway, I made my choice and whatever the consequences, I'll work with them!

Rennie, yay on getting back into the 160's! Keep it going! :carrot: It's understandable having some cake on your daughter's 21st birthday :congrat: but lay off those potatoes, girlie, and keep losing weight!

TwoTots, I hope the switch to IP helps! Yay on your clothes fitting more loosely! :broc: And of course you need to keep posting here! :D Also, knitting or doing something with your hands at night while you're watching tv is a great idea. I haven't been watching tv lately, but when I do, I always have my laptop on my lap!

Steph, I'm here, lol! :D Great job on being another lb down! Every lb off is a success! Keep it going! Slow and steady wins this race! :dancer: I hope doing some IP helps to jumpstart your metabolism too! :crossed: Do whatever works, right?

McSurf, congrats on the weight you've lost so far! :cb: You're doing great! And the water weight from the rice will drop off soon! Oriental food is so good but that rice will get ya! :nono: I'm glad the condo fix was an easy and inexpensive one! And I agree with Rennie: Besides helping to up your number of posts, going to Introductions and welcoming new members is a great way to help them. Sometimes we forget what it was like to be so new and wishful and hoping others would welcome you to this new site. Anytime I have time (and unfortunately, I haven't had time recently), I go to Introductions and welcome as many newcomers as I can. I'm sure as soon as you get 20 posts in, you'll be able to post your profile pics, as well as get a ticker, signature, and private messaging! :cp: Oh and you know, I've never been tested for osteoporosis, but I probably should because I have very low vitamin D levels. (At one point they were so low, they didn't register at all.) And vitamin D and calcium absorption are related. Losing weight slowly is smart!

Belief, woohoo on losing 5 lbs already! :yay: Whew, I do hope you don't get tired of eggs though. Looking at your meals, you've had a lot of eggs lately! Of course, do what works for you! I just don't want to see you get burnt out on eggs. Oh, and good news, refried beans and heavy cream are both allowed on the Slow Carb Diet! :spin:

Missy, I'm glad you got back on plan! :cp: You have a good attitude about it, so good for you! When do you leave for the Carribean? I bet you're so excited! :sunny:

Today's Meals:
Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs, 3 sausages, a teapot of green tea
Lunch: large veggie salad topped with tunafish and ranch dressing, mixed nuts (too many!), Mio water
Snack: Diet Dr. Pepper
Dinner: 9 mild chicken wings, water, a cup of green tea

EDITED TO ADD: I broke down and weighed myself, and I am between 172.5-173.5. I have to admit, I thought it'd be higher! :cp:

Good morning everyone. I have spent the last two days reading the forums on the site and decided to register. I know how important support is to dieting endeavors from my past experience. I have tried a number of diets, Atkins, Medifast, diet pills, phentermine, HCG. I seem to do fine for awhile, but then get off track and gain the weight back.

I was divorced in 2009 after a 20 year marriage, gaining back all of the weight I had lost in 2007/2008. I was only 16 lbs from my goal weight before I fell off! Then I lost my job this past December after 22 years of service and have been feeling low about all the years I invested with the company and the manner in which I was let go (I was on a vacation day when my boss sent me a text asking me to meet with her later that afternoon). I am now on unemployment and it is the worst feeling. I have never been unemployed before since I entered the work force. I am a full time student and will graduate in May, so that keeps my head up a bit.

I bought a bunch of EAS shakes and a pedometer which should arrive tomorrow. My only brother gets married on June 14th 2014 and I look and feel horrible and am ashamed to see friends and family I have not seen in years at this weight. I am about 234 now. My lowest weight was in 2008 at 170 lbs, just 16 lbs from my goal weight of 154 lbs for my height of 5'7.

I don't know if it is feasible to lose 50 lbs in 3.5 months, but anything is better than this. Low carb has always proven the most successful for me. I plan on doing the Slow Carb diet.

I wish you all a good day. I want to post daily on the board and will weigh in tomorrow morning, but I'm pretty sure it is 233-234.

Cheers!
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne! :welcome: I'm so glad you've decided to join us! Oh but I am so sorry to hear about your losing your job. I'm sending prayers your way and I hope you get a better job very soon! Good for you going to school, and congrats on being so close to graduation! :congrat: Now, 50 lbs in 3.5 months is a stretch, but as you said, losing anything will be going in the right direction, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much you will be able to take off in 3.5 months! Just don't do anything drastic--go extreme low calorie or anything like that. those things always backfire--just do the slow carb diet as intended, or a modified version that works for you, and I have no doubt you'll be able to stick to it long term. Like you, my motivation for getting started again was a wedding. My daughter gets married in April, but the bottom line is good health and the long-term results are what really matter! You can do this!!! :goodluck:

Thank you so much for the welcome! I also failed to mention I have hypothyroidism which I did not have when I lost weight in the past. I am taking NatureThroid for it, but not sure if the levels are right. I go back in 6 weeks for checkup. I hope this doesn't hurt my weight loss efforts. All of the women on my father's side of the family as well as my mom have thyroid issues. Now my younger sister does too. Wow, Jacqui, you are really losing weight aren't you! Good for you, you will look amazing for the wedding! I am sure you look amazing now. Feels great to lose!

Suzanne, I'm sorry to hear about your hypothyroidism and your family history of it! :( But if your doctor can get your levels right, it shouldn't hinder you too much. He/She definitely needs to get the meds right though! I was losing weight quite steadily and then my hormones kicked in last month and took me to a dead stop, lol! My time of month (TOM) is no longer regular (I'm 52--fun fun, lol!), and after being a month and a half late, I've now been on TOM for the 2nd week in a row. Last month and this month, my weight has been at a complete standstill. I had gotten down to 168, but I just weighed a few minutes ago and I weigh 172.5. A few hours ago I also decided to weigh (just because I hadn't weighed in a few days and my curiosity got the better of me), and I weighed 173.5, so it's really fluctuating right now. I am very bloated with TOM, and of course midday is not the best time to weigh in general, so we'll see what happens once TOM ends! :crossed: And yes, I agree, it does feel great to lose! :sunny:

Steph good job on the pound down :high: I am trying to stay focused but I am having a really hard time. I have the soup but can't seem to continue it. It taste fine, I am just all over the place (well my mind and mouth is ;))

TwoTots the IP cheat sounds like a plan :) and isn't it great when you clothes feel loose :carrot: Good for you :)

belief that's what I said about my pound. Considering the potatoes, I'll take the pound for sure :)

Hi Jacqui I'm smiling because I have lost my post so many times by doing the same thing LOL. Glad you decided to re-post it all :) Jacqui :bravo: to you on doing the right thing with your TOM cravings :high: I am on my second TOM this month this is the second month this has happened. I'm really bloated also. On a good note my husband bought me a pair of jeans, a top and a dress for Valentine's day and my daughter said, "Wow Mom you are skinny!" I think that is so funny because I'm not skinny as we all know. Just not one-hundred ninety something pounds any more. Then I went into a store with my daughter yesterday and she bought me two sun dresses that were on sale. I tried one on for my husband this morning and his response was "WOW" made me feel so good ... so I've got to keep this going. :) If he thinks wow now, huh wait until this summer when I lose 20 more pounds. ;) I've got to get my focus back though. So Mother Hen if you could check in like you used to I think it will give me that extra kick I need :kickbutt:

Hi Suzanne, :wel3fc: and to thread :) this is a great place to be with great people :) I'm sorry to hear of all you have gone through and I pray that things get better soon  I agree with Jacqui 50lbs is a stretch but you never know what will happen on these weigh loss journeys :). I loss 30lbs in 3.5 months in 2010 but can't seem to stay as focused this go around though I am trying :) ... I will say together we can accomplish a lot and we usually do. The accountability and support of 3FC is beyond compare.

B ~ protein shake
L ~ Atkins shake ... then broccoli, bean sprouts and chicken cooked in sesame oil and garlic hoisin sauce
S ~ cake, Chili's chips and salsa (not a lot)
D ~ I will have another shake

Thank you so much for the support and welcome and it is lovely to meet you all. I am confusing the different diet plans I have done in the past. On Atkins, or any LC plan, can't we eat full fat cottage cheese and full fat dressings and full fat cheese? I read on one of the boards that ladies were eating low fat shredded cheese and I thought that defeated the purpose of low carb. I can't remember what kind of cottage cheese I ate in the past when I did LC. I thought we needed calories from full fat products and protein? Hmm. I need to go back to FitDay and see what I ate back then! I am trying to get as much info about the Slow Carb diet via web as I can't afford the book right now, or any other non necessities. Unemployment wages are ridiculously low. I thought it was a % of salary, but it is capped at a weekly benefit.

Jacqui, I think the fluctuation in your weight is probably the time of day you are weighing and yes hormones. I am certain I have some imbalances some where, but without health insurance now, I am not sure how to get it checked. I was let go on 12/13, insurance ended 12/31 and I couldn't get in to see the doctor to get a physical done in those two weeks as my father was in the hospital at the same time with a heart attack. Very rough month. I looked into ordering tests online. I hope they are accurate and reviewed by legitimate doctors. Anyone have experience with this?

Hi Suzanne I got the book from the library and since no one has requested it I have been able to renew it a few times ... just a thought :)
