I'm in! I am either going to do a Leslie Sansone indoor walking video, or I'm going to get outside and do a lap at the walking park, depending on the weather. (We had some nice days in December so it's possible there might be some nice ones in January too.) So my goal is walking 20 times. Thanks Joy!

Joy, your exercise streak is amazing!!! :broc:

I'm in! I did a December exercise challenge and found it to be very motivating. My goal is to work out 6 days a week. I do a combination of video exercise programs, walking my dog, hiking, and even back country snowmobiling (which is actually very difficult and great exercise!) and I'm thinking of doing some snow-shoeing and some cross country skiing this year also. I don't have skis yet, but am thinking of investing in a pair.

Posted my post earlier and just felt like something was missing to what I normally add to them. Couldn't put my finger on it. Came back just now to realise I hadn't set any goals. :dizzy:

So looking forward to getting back to the gym.

I am afraid my goal may be the lowest one on here, LOL. I am going for 1000 minutes on the treadmill. I want to set something that I am pretty sure that I will reach. I have been doing well with it for about 2 months, now its time to pick up the pace a little more. Can't wait to get this goal met and set one a little higher for next month!!!

I really need to figure out how to change my tracker too. I just got a new scale today because mine was way off, like 6 pounds in 3 minutes off :tantrum::tantrum:. I am now at 210.4. This scale lets me put in my start weight (today's) set a goal weight, and then it will save my last weigh in too. I need to read the direction to figure it all out.

Okay, I am going to join this thread along with the January weight loss. I want to work out 20 of the next 31 days. (copying after onebyone, Jacqui, and pixikat) Whether it be one of my exercise videos or some outdoor walking...I've got to get moving!!!:woops:
Joy - your exercise accomplishments are amazing!!!
Susan1975 - I just finally got my new scale programmed. The directions were a pain!! Hope you find yours to be easier...and your goal is just fine.
EagleRD - sounds like you have lots of interesting options. I am not a cold weather fan, but it sounds like you have some good ideas planned. :brr:
Everyone else - sounds like you all have to pretty high goals. Cheers to us! I am hoping the new year brings all of us great success stories!:newyear:

Thank you setting this thread up!!

Amazing gardenjoy!!!! 163 days in a row!!

I have signed up for the tushie challenge for January which involves doing squats most days in January plus I want to do some form of exercise every day in January. I will do one of these each day:

1. Going to the gym for at least an hour doing a mix of weights and cardio
2. Doing an exercise class
3. Doing some other form of outdoor exercise for at least 45 minutes

Tomorrow I think a nice bike ride or hike is in order to clear away the cobwebs!!

Wowzas Joy!! I bet you almost can't stop now you've built up such an impressive streak!

I want to start my own streak, I had a few days off but I went to the gym this morning and felt much better afterwards, exercise is such a mood booster, can't believe I went without it all those years!!

So, I guess I also want to do exercise every day too, aiming for 2-3 classes a week and the other days working out in the gym.

25 min elliptical, 16 min bike, 40 situps on weighted machine, 3 sets of 10 on a chest press machine.

My goal for Jan is to complete 4 weeks of Bob Greene's 12 week body makeover, I've modified it slightly for myself, when I do it, it works great, I feel strong and healthy. I want to do the whole 12 weeks, this seems like the place for me to get it done.

So this means I need to do 3 sets of strength exercises, 6 sets of functional and 6 cardio, 5 regular (30 mins) and 1 double (60 mins) per week.

Happy 2014 !!

Time to make exercise a higher priority. I will set daily goals for the month of January, and come here to confess if I've met them. Bottom's up!

I backed off exercise due to health reasons, but this thread has spurred me to start anew. I spent some time yesterday setting up for success, and I found FitnessBlender videos. There are lots of them, so I should have fun trying them out.

Wed 01 Jan: TWO FitnessBlender Videos
Thu 02 Jan: ONE FitnessBlender Video
Fri 03 Jan: ONE FitnessBlender Video (so far!)
Sat 04 Jan: No videos, Sweating to housework and Carpentry work
Sun 05 Jan:.....school starting....losing track

First of all, I see some great goals here everyone so here's a big :woohoo: that you all do great this coming month.

I see that some of you have set up a calendar so I think that I will do that as well and then search for it (hopefully finding it also):

Also, in the interest of not writing a book what I am doing I will take advantage of the smilies here. So, here is the legend:

:carrot:carrot by each one means I did it!

1: W(cardio-Leslie Sansone) :carrot:
2: TH (free weight workout---upper, lower and core exercises):carrot:
3) F (cardio)
4) SA (free weight workout---upper, lower and core exercises)

Also, in the interest of not writing a book what I am doing I will take advantage of the smilies here. So, here is the legend:

Everyone's doing great!! And I love reading all the challenges we've set ourselves. So far so good for me too, I completed my 4th day in a row working out, so 3/3 for January. Unfortunately it's been a low turnout at gym classes this week so they've been cancelled and I've had to do my own thing which felt a little boring today despite trying to pump myself up with some good music...

But the weekend is here and I think that means a dance class tomorrow morning so I hope enough people turn up as I am in the mood for some dancing!

I took a 2 hour nap today, can I count the minutes if I dreamed about walking? Still trying to get over the sinus infection. I really needed that nap, I haven't slept well in days because I can't breathe out of my nose at night. I really really want to get back to my regular 45-60 minutes a day soon.

Still going strong with the challenge! And doing my squats every day for the tushie challenge too!!

This is how it's shaping up so far:

1. Gym workout
2. Pilates class and 20 minute cycle
3. Gym workout
4. Body pump class
5. Gym workout
6. Gym workout

I found myself alone at the gym yesterday when I arrived about 4.40 so I decided to check out the 'man' weights and found a good one for triceps. I can't lift much (yet!) but I can feel it working and my arms really need it!

How's everyone going with their challenge? My status is slightly bored but still very determined! Pilates tomorrow so I can break up the gym workout routine!

Congrats to everyone working so hard, coming into the hard time to stick to your New Years goals and resolutions, thanks for helping me keep going. I only started last month with the exercise challenge, it made such a difference last month, pushing me to meet my goal.

Best to all :sunny:

Ok hope not posting twice my connection cut out. Doing the step away from the scale challenge but need to motivate myself on exercise.
M--F exercise DVD, and try doing pushups everyday. As of yesterday I could do five in a row.
Sat & Sun go for a long walk. If weather is not permitting do a 30 min walk video instead.

I have to say you guys are awesome on your exercise accomplishments I hope to work up to that.

EagleRiverDee the functional exercises are core and stretches, I do
10 ea of a few different crunches, calf, quadriceps, hamstring and back stretches, shoulder shrugs and toe lifts.

The strength exercises are squats, lunges, and arms, bicep, tricep, flys and presses, with 5kg dumbbells.

Not too strenuous, but I wasn't doing anything regularly so I was feeling it at first, feeling better already. I can't find my book at the moment, but luckily I've started this a few times before and made a little checklist so I know what to do.

Need your help!..I'm a DoD Civilian female, 65 years old and work a 40 hour week. My hours are 6:30-3:00 so by the time I get home I'm exhausted. I weigh 250 lbs at 5'4" so you see I'm out of shape.
I admire everyone that has posted.. would love to hear if you also work a full time job. and how you find the time to excercise.

Still going strong!! Yesterday was haaaarrrdd, I felt a little ill and a little dizzy but I still went...I just really didn't want to break my streak! I didn't go too hard on myself though, I just did the stationary bike and some arm and leg weights so I could sit down, lol!

This is how January is shaping up:

Jenny
1. Gym workout
2. Pilates class and 20 minute cycle
3. Gym workout
4. Bodypump class
5. Gym workout
6. Gym workout
7. Pilates class
8. 30 mins of weights at the gym
9. Pilates class
10. Gym workout
11. Bodypump class
12. Gym workout
13. Yoga class

Anyone else doing exercise every day, have you noticed how much more washing you're doing? And how many more showers you're having? It's often two a day for me, and I can never find any socks anywhere!!

I work full time (40 hrs a week, 8am - 5pm) but am fortunate in that I live very close to where I work. My commute is 11 minutes, so I don't lose a lot of time commuting. I go home at lunch to eat and let my dog out.

I often walk at lunch with my dog, that squeezes in about 20 minutes of exercise. I'm not a morning person ( I wish I was ) so the rest of my exercise I do in the evening. My DH and I rotate cooking chores, so it's a lot easier on the nights he cooks. I work out while he's cooking. On the nights I cook, I cook, eat, rest for about 30 minutes, and then workout. Sometimes that means I'm working out as late as 8:30 or 9pm, which isn't ideal. I do also try to take my dog for a walk in the evenings. Note that we are empty nesters so I don't have demands from children any longer which frees up a lot of my time.

I find that if I'm diligent about exercise, I don't get much tv or reading in. I try to allot enough time for one tv show a night, but sometimes I don't have time. I'd rather give up tv than miss my exercise. I do often read a little at bed time, which cuts into my sleep, but I love to read.

happy0349 hi and welcome, I work 40 hours week, too. I walk at lunch, sometimes I get in a little walk at break times. It was hard to break the habit of getting up from the desk, sometimes I'd just rather read a magazine, but I make myself go. I had a walking partner, but she (lucky girl) retired so I had to get myself in the habit of walking by myself.

I just keep working at it, if you work at a desk, just standing up every half hour can be a start, start easy, I like to tell myself doing anything, even if it's only a little bit, is better than doing nothing. It's really important not to hurt yourself, so remember to start slow and you'll get better and better with time.

Best of luck to you, keep checking in :sunny:

This thread is moving so fast!! And so many of us!!

Kelijpa, I completely agree that doing even a little something is better than nothing, and I remind myself of this every day as it was always an all or nothing mentality with me and I'm learning to change that. Now I'm successfully exercising every day but I have to remind myself that if I miss a day then all is not lost, I can still complete the month having exercised most days and having achieved something I never thought I could have done.

So far:

Vix
1. Workout – 40 cardio, 20 weights
2. Workout – 50 cardio, 20 weights
3. Workout – 35 cardio, 25 weights
4. Dance class - 55
5. 4.8 mile walk - 60
6. Bodypump class - 55
7. Yoga class - 55
8. Aerobics class - 55
9. Workout – 45 cardio, 20 weights
10. Pilates class – 55
11. Dance class – 55
12. 20/20/20 class (cycle, abs, aerobics) – 60
13. Bodypump class - 55
14. Yoga class - 55

Tonight I'm going for a swim!! Then I might treat myself to a jacuzzi afterwards!!

My exercise goal for the rest of the month starts tomorrow: Get back to the gym! I always avoid the gym in January, it's so darn crowded...but thins out again around February. I have to grin and bear the crowd and just go. I will get up early to do so tomorrow, I haven't been since December!

I made a goal to do yoga every day and so far have been right on track :) Will continue to do it daily, it really makes my body feel good!

We are halfway through the month and I'm nearly halfway there. That's great, but I realized at this rate I won't earn any extra $.

My goal for January is to complete a total of 15 workouts (averaging 3 per week, but allowing flexibility if needed). I also have built in a little incentive for myself if I meet my challenge ($40 to buy books), with the potential to earn extra for each additional workout completed ($5 extra per workout).

1- 1/2/14, 20 minutes walking 3.5 mph, 30 minutes strength training
2- 1/3/14, 60 minutes walking on treadmill (10 3.5 mph, 50 3.0 mph)
3- 1/4/14, 60 minute brisk walk at the lake

Great going everyone :)

I managed getting to the gym today:
30 minutes elliptical
30 minutes treadmill (actually jogged 10 minutes, but man...heartburn, will have to tone it down tomorrow to a speed walk)
45 minutes weight training and abs
15 minutes stretch

I started the day with a 45 minute hip-opening yoga routine that I found online, excellent and easy to follow!

The program I'm working out to just went into phase 2 so all new workouts. Today is a plyometric workout. I'm also going to try for another dog walk this evening, as it's a balmy 40 degrees out today (balmy by Alaska winter standards).

Moving Forward

I'm so happy I accomplished two workouts today! That really increases the likelihood that I'm going to meet my challenge. Part of me wants to start book shopping now. Another part of me says that the book shopping should be part of the reward. For now, I'm going to work on finishing my current book so that I'm ready for the new ones when they arrive. Five more workouts to go! :)

Kelijpa- Thanks! Just one pup, Mila. She's a rescue dog I got in January '13. And she's not a fan of walking when it's colder than 10 degrees either - but lately it's been above freezing. Weird how down in the lower 48 they are having such dire winter weather but up here in Alaska it feels like it's turning spring. Even the trees are getting confused- the pussy willows are coming out.

Dee at work today quite a few people mentioned how we were colder than Anchorage, it is weird weather. Our dog is a shelter dog, funny little cocker spaniel mix, I haven't trimmed him since it's been so cold, he's starting to look like one of the Beatles, lol.

Jacqui WTG!

Sum great job, you're killing it!

GardenerJoy I bet you're ready for spring, you have about 7 hours shoveling snow!

Pam great job, thanks for the inspiration!

pamatga I feel a bit fatigued as well. I have exceeded my wildest dreams of goals. I really upped the ante this month and in a weight loss department I have been handsomely rewarded; keeps me going. I am mustering up my strength to go to the gym. Today is my "day from h3ll" exercise day; first I lift weights for 45 min, then I power walk (4.2mph) for 60 minutes on treadmill and then I hop in to the pool and swim for 45/50 minutes. These are the true fat burning days for me. I do it 3 times per week. Other days I just walk and do aerobics.

You can do it, end is near and then we are refreshed to start the month of February.

Remember, rest days are important too; if you feel tired, you may need one. Hugs.

Dee at work today quite a few people mentioned how we were colder than Anchorage, it is weird weather. Our dog is a shelter dog, funny little cocker spaniel mix, I haven't trimmed him since it's been so cold, he's starting to look like one of the Beatles, lol.

Kelijpa- It's ridiculously warm. You might think we are rejoicing, but many of us are disgusted at this weather. It'd be different if it was actually spring, but we're months away from spring. Many of us ski, snowmobile, etc. and this weather has trashed our snowpack so all we can do is look outside at the grey weather, slip and slide our way to the car, and wish it would cool off again and snow. My DH and I like go go snowmobiling every weekend in the winter, and we haven't been able to ride for the past 3 weekends because of this cruddy weather. I do feel sorry for the folks in the lower 48 that are getting it, though, because I know most of them don't want it and some communities aren't prepared to get hit with severe winter weather.

Sum38- you CRUSHED your goal! Congratulations!

I haven't been walking the past few days because I can barely stand up in our driveway and I live up on a mountain so everything is either up or downhill and I don't want to fall on my rear. It's pretty slick out.

It looks like with the new year I bite off more than I could chew. I am doing pretty good with my food choices but not so regular with my exercise. I am so hit and miss with it.I am still working on it though for the rest of this month and will start fresh in February.

I may have bit off more than I can chew :running::lifter::woops::swim::yoga: but the "reward" is in wearing clothes I haven't worn in ages, seeing a waistline emerge and, as my hubby pointed out the other day, when the rest of me gets smaller, my boobs look bigger! :p :belly: Who knew????

Boy, it feels good to be logging these last few workouts. I'm so impressed to see everyone's progress. It really has been a motivator for me. It has also been an odd comfort to me to know I'm not the only one tortuting myself with all this exercise. :D

4- 1/5/14, 60 minute brisk night walk
5- 1/7/14, 45 minutes strength training
6- 1/13/14, 60 minutes strength trainjng
7- 1/16/14, 40 minutes strength training
8- 1/19/14, 4 hour 10 mile hike around the lake
9- 1/20/14, 45 minutes strength training
10- 1/20/14, 1 hour walk with hubby around the neighborhood
11- 1/21/14, 1 hour strength training
12- 1/26/14, 1 hour walk on treadmill, 2.5 mph
