I really am enjoying these challenges! And I love seeing the progress that everyone is making.

I've been losing at around 12 lbs a month. I'm just going to go for an even 10 this time around.

This sounds like so much fun! I definitely need support from others as right now I'm on my own with trying to lose weight amongst friends and family. I look forward to giving and receiving support on the forum. My goal for January is 10lbs as I'm just starting and I know people tend to lose more weight at the beginning of the process. Let's start this new year out right. :)

I'll be looking at 10 lbs in January which would put me at 253. Lofty, but beginning a diet usually does well at least at first. We shall see. It will be tempting to go out to eat at the end of the month and it would be bad.....really bad... I'm still sorta pre programmed to reward with food, I know its a bad habit.

So hiya all, welcome to 2014! :newyear::newyear:

Hi everyone! Happy to be starting the January challenge, thanks for putting it together Joy :)

I'm glad that it's the new year, and I can focus on my resolutions to stay tough this month. It looks like I'll probably stay in the same decade and not hit any mini goals, so I may need that to stay strong. My goal this month is 5 lbs again.

If I may I'd love to jump back in and join for the January challenge and will put myself down for 7 pounds.

I think I last reported in towards the end of November and skipped December because for some reason I'm not as eager to post when the numbers are going up (although i still follow the threads). It defeats the purpose of the accountability, doesn't it, however, I will say that when I am on plan, I do find this thread a fantastic motivator to keep going so thanks in advance for taking me back!

I was hoping to start my year year at 150...but I don't think The Whoosh Fairy will whisk away 2.2 pounds (and she seem to have moved on from my house). One can only hope :crossed:

I lost nearly 15 pounds in 2013, I am hoping to drop 25 lbs in 2014 and finish this weight loss journey and enter into the wonderland of maintenance.

1500 calories of real food for 31 straight days

Good morning :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you from the past month's challenge, and to everybody else joining this month.
My goal is to lose 2,7kg in January, which basically is the weight I put on during December. I decided to only weigh-in weekly from now on (with Friday being my weigh-in day) but I will check in daily reporting calories and exercise. You are a very encouraging bunch of people, and thank you all very much for helping me stay accountable.

I hope everybody slipped into the New Year well - I had a great Raclette dinner with friends and then when to a party. Fireworks are really big over here in Germany, but it was super foggy and even though we were on a hill overlooking the city, the only firework we saw was 50m down the road. Got to hear it till 1am though ;)
I'll go back to bed now and try to sleep off the hangover - have a great day everyone!!

I was pleasantly surprised by my weigh in, especially after eating way too much for dinner last night, if you were on last month you know I was shooting for this yesterday, but I'll definitely take it for today!

So my goal is to lose 4.9 and get to 155

Happy New Year, everyone! It's great to see all your shining faces in a shiny new year! A special welcome to the new people to the monthly weight loss challenge -- this is a terrific place to get support and encouragement to meet your healthy 2014 goals.

I'll make our challenge list tomorrow, so there's still time to join us and be on the initial list.

My goal for 2013 was to keep my weight between 165 and 170. What I really did was keep it between 164.8 and 176. I had some trouble over the summer. I've had trouble over the summer every year since I started this weight loss journey.

So, for 2014, I’m going to try to nudge the low end of my maintenance range to 160, with the idea that I can have some trouble and still stay below 170. So, my goals for 2014 are to get to a low of 159.9 and never go higher than 170.

For January, my start weight is 165.8 and I’d like to get to my lowest weight of 2013, 164.8. In kilograms, that’s:

SW: 75.2kgs
CW: 75.2 kgs
GW: 74.7 kgs

Happy New Year!

I dunno if I am supposed to use today's weigh in or yesterday's weigh in but today I am 260...and it's probably just getting rid of water weight going down this fast but I'm still happy it's happening :D ... also I'm weighing naked (sry TMI) so it probably changes things quite a bit... so that's what I'll keep doing.

Didn't drink yesterday, not feeling the holiday spirit there I guess.... our pipes all froze yesterday so I've been preoccupied. But, on that note I've saved myself the cals from drinking.... :carrot:

Hope you all had a fun new year's!

Happy New Year y'all! So excited to start the first challenge of the year with you guys!

Last night was kind of an off-plan fiesta so my weigh-in wasn't stellar this morning, but oh well, it's just one day and it's a whole new year!

I'm going to shoot for 7 pounds (207) by the end of the month. Seems reasonably difficult considering the work trip/vacation I have coming up.

I am in :D

And the FIRST thing I did for this post is turn off my touch pad on the laptop.

I have lost 5...that is FIVE posts I have written which before I got to the point of hitting "post reply" suddenly disappeared, one even just two keystrokes before I wanted to post. Don't know what I hit but it suddenly changes the page and I cannot go back to the post/or it just clears the post.

Anyway, :newyear: to all of ya

My big celebration for New Years was yesterday, eating the "right foods" but without restriction. Lots of fruit being as that is one of my favorites.

Anyway, :congrat: to all of you, not just the ones who made "goal," but to all of ya. You are all winners. I have looked at the weight loss overall of each of you and it is a trememdous amount of which as a group you can be very proud, and same as individuals.

I used to post a lot on some different forums, mostly gun dog training forums, plus bee keeping forums, electricians forums and hunting/fishing. This is by far the most friendly supportative group I have ever been around. It would be a super pleasure to be in a "real life" support group such as you all are.

Repeating Jacqui, welcome to the newcomers, both the ones new to :wel3fc:3 fatchicks and to Joy's thread here. You can not find a better support group.

As far as I am concerned, you all made your goals last month, even 183 who took a month out for whatever :D She? will lose that fast and be right back in the "race?" with us. :D

Myself, though so close to my 12 lb loss goal for last month kinda took the last two weeks off myself.

I was at 227.5 briefly, only 2.5 lbs short of my goal with almost two weeks left to lose that in....... LOL Anyway.....

Starting weight using yesterdays weigh in in Dec thread, 229
Goal for January will only be 8.5 lbs.

My overall loss since starting weight loss on July 8 has been an average of 8.33 lbs per month. I did not really start a real weight loss plan until I joined 3fc in Sept. My first portion of loss was by stop drinking near beer, 12 pack per day, over 1200 calories a day and cutting back on my eating some, and by not buying/eating cheese. I finally had to cut out all dairy, I just cannot control myself when I have them, though I came close with some. Now I have included veggies and have been learning ways to make them tasty enough to have daily. At any rate, I have learned to include plenty of fibre in the diet to help carry out some fat and bile, lowering cholesterol and slowing digestion and slowing the blood glucose (lowering the gi)

But these last two weeks I have not followed all that too well, buying a pound of queso fresco and eating that in one sitting with some chicken fideo I had made for one thing. 1600 calories plus 4 days worth each of sodium and cholesterol.

And buying a 30 oz bottle of Bob's bleu cheese dressing from the refrigerated deli dept so I could try it on the veggies. I opened that when I got home for a "taste," sticking my finger in and scooping some out. Then another one. Then another one. Then a spoon with some. Then all a spoon would hold with some. Then........... before I knew it, I had ate 1/3 of the bottle, 10 oz at 140 calories an oz. 1400 calories... but in my own defense, I will add that my two girls got about 400 of those calories and were still wanting more. The next trip to town I also purchased a large bag of salad fixins and had salads with the rest of that bottle of bleu cheese. I realized it would probably not go well on steaming hot mixed veggies.

Anyway, back to earnest weight loss again, but I will be altering this some and will not be in as big of a hurry to lose. 8 lbs a month will be fine with me. By the end of this month I will be half way to my new total goal of 180 lbs. I initially only wanted to get down to 220. When I started in 3fc, Jacqui told me my feet and back I would be feeling much better as I got the weight off. I am happy to say, she was RIGHT. Back pain and foot pain is practically gone. I feel way better. I will reach 50 lbs of weight loss during January, which is half the total loss amount.

Funny thing also, --- not sure if I like it or not, is food tastes WAY WAY BETTER THAN IT DID BEFORE which is causing PROBLEMS. :dizzy: But I think it will be well worth it for the increase in pleasure of what I do eat. I used to smoke, and stopping smoking (about 38 years ago, four packs a day to zilch, cold turkey) made a huge difference in the taste of food also, and nearly as much of a difference again. Has anyone else had this experience with taste?

There was a mention of stopping drinking in this thread not far back to which I did not respond. Myself, I stopped drinking over 21 years ago also.

Starting weight 229
goal weight 221

50 lbs off weight will be 223 lbs

Hi BFR happy new year! DH and if have had the same experience with taste, we have cut way back on sugar, processed foods and fast burning carbs (mostly cut way back on breads). We attribute it to cutting back on sugars, not a scientist so really not sure what does it, but even ketchup tastes sweeter. Seems like when cutting back on things your taste buds don't get overloaded. The good news is the good stuff tastes better, too :D

Congrats, you're doing great!!

Okay the new year has officially started!!! Goodbye holiday binge eating and drinking! Hello exercise and good wholesome foods!

SW - 159 (not really sure because I have a house full of sleeping teenagers and could not get to the upstairs bathroom to weigh in). Going with this weight because I did have a few cocktails and they always pack on a few pounds until the water weight goes away.
GW - 153 or less

Rooster - I know how scary some of those trigger foods can be. Things seem to spiral out of control. But, you acknowledged your failure - time to move on! I agree, too, that I feel so much better with almost 30 pounds off...no groaning and aches and pains. Can't wait to see how I feel with about 20 more off!!!

NightAngel - sorry about your pipes! That is a total pain in the a**! We have an older farmhouse and have to worry about that too. Good to see you again this month!

Joy - thank you again, for being the chick in charge!

Turtle, pixikat, Sum, Jacqui_D, Woodstock, 183StGB, kelijpa (and forgive me for those I missed) - So good to see you all on here again. You truly inspire me.

To all those newcomers - Can't wait to join you on your journeys!!!:grouphug:

Today is a DownDay so I will be eating very simply/minimally today.

Breakfast:

Supplements
Psyllium husks drink

Lunch:
Hard boiled egg
Vegetable broth

Supper:
Egg beaters omelette 1/3 cup

I know it seems like too little but the point of JUDDD/IF is to alternate days of near-fasting with high calorie days. It's a kind of calorie cycling. I can look forward to a higher calorie day tomorrow!

Exercise:
Bosu balance squats
Weights - arms/shoulders

I took my January starting weight - 148 this afternoon, though it's been more like 146 most of the week, so I should probably consider that my starting weight. We'll see what it is first thing in the morning.

I'm planning on counting calories and focusing on a whole foods plant based diet. I cleaned out the junk food in my kitchen the morning, and planned out my meals for tomorrow. I'm set! Let's get started.

Well, most of my fitness plans fell through for the day, but I walked two miles with 22 pounds of weights tonight. It was a DownDay so I hardly ate anything.
Tomorrow is an UpDay. More food, more exercise.

it's great to see so many people join in this month!

I decided to return to school a week early, I just can't study at home, and I really need to. Also, I'm dragging on sleep, so I'm taking it slow today and get settled and tackle stuff tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Just had a huge veggie omelet for breakfast (fresh mushrooms, onions, spinach and one piece crumbled bacon with one egg fried in olive oil) 6 WW pts and so filling! :hun:
It snowed here overnight, so I have to deal with getting to work in the slop. I beat my husband to shoveling the walks, so I got at least a little exercise for today so far. I hate the cold...and the snow is pretty...but it is still too cold.:brr:
Have a great day, everyone!

I'm in! My starting weight from yesterday was 205.4 lbs. and I plan to lose 6 pounds and get under 200 (!, OMG!)
I'll only post on Thursdays after my WW weigh-in because these daily ups and and downs are starting to make me crazy :)
Good luck!

Pixikat, I hope the water weight drops off quickly for you! Drink water!

Turtle, it is so good to see you solidly in the 140's! 130's, here you come! :carrot:

Susan, good to have you joining us! :goodluck:

Joy, way to plan ahead! It's so good that you can see the patterns in your weight loss journey and you don't let them discourage you, but rather, you make adjustments for them! That's success! :bravo:

NightAngel, yay on 260! :dancer: And I always weigh in the morning with no clothes on. A few weeks ago, just to see what the difference would be, I weighed at night with clothes on and then again in the morning with clothes off, and it was an 8 lb difference! You can bet I will always weigh naked in the morning, lol! :goodscale:

Hi Finale! Glad to have you! :goodluck:

DesignChick, I'm sure your weight will drop quickly after your New Year's celebration! Back on plan works wonders!

BFR, I cannot imagine how frustrating it must have been to lose your post 5 times! :tantrum: And yet, you still wrote it out all over again. :high: I'm so glad you did because it is inspiring to read about the progress you've made and the steps it took to get here! :carrot: And I agree--this is a great group, and I love seeing new people join us and become a part of it! :grouphug:

Boating, your omelet sounds yummy! :T We got snow here too. It's very pretty but we're also going to have to dig out. I'm not a cold weather person either! :brr:

Shr1nk1ngme, it's great that you've found a plan that works for you! Good job on the exercise! Keep up the good work! :broc:

Marymo, wow! 40 lbs! Go you! :trampo:

Workinglikeadog, good to have you here! 4 lbs is a great goal! And I really like the idea of your weekly goal-setting too. I think small steps really help! :goodluck:

Stilettolife, hiya chickie! Good goal for this month!

Hi SeeMyFeet, lol! Love your name and your avatar! Good luck this month! :goodluck:

Allyp, nice job maintaining since September! Good for you! :cb:

Kilketay, great job cleaning out your kitchen and planning your meals! That's the way to do it! :flow2:

Amanda, good goal and setting a small reward for yourself is a smart idea! :cp:

Hi Nicki, so glad to have you! :goodluck:

183, I'm sure you'll feel better getting back to your regular routine. Smart move going back early!

Kelijpa, I'm so glad you see the water weight for what it is and don't let it discourage you! Drink lots of water today and hopefully it will drop right back off! :crossed:

boating OMG your omelet does sound delicious!!!

Southern oooh a new tatt! do you know what you are going to get and where yet?

183 hopefully school will be nice and quiet and allow much studying... no getting distracted by netflix! that is my main downfall lol

shr1nk1ngme I understand that your plan rotates high calorie days with low calorie days from what you said, sounds interesting. what do you eat on high calorie days?

Kilketay good for you for cleaning out the kitchen of junk! So much easier to stay on track when it is not there lurking and calling to you.

jacqui Im working off, some of it came off yesterday... see!!! It is so cold though it will be more likely be coffee and tea instead of water.

With such a big group I don't have the time and energy to do personals for everybody, so I will leave off here for now. Keep up the amazing work everyone!

finale: awesome, good to see ya.... hey what's your plan??

designchick88: 7 lbs isn't too bad but it does sound like you see trouble coming w vacation/travel...maybe plan for some missteps or plan out your meals in some way?

big fat rooster: you did really well last month, don't worry bout the 2 lbs I mean really it's hard to lose at all in December.... I see you mentioned body pains, I get ya there, I have knee trouble this heavy....prob be easier under 200lbs for me... 8lbs seems fine, it's a good place to set a goal and the new year tends to breed motivation! :carrot:

kelijpa: I agree, things taste differently when cutting out sugar or carbs...at least after a while... I'm super low carb for this new diet, pasta being my worst....good luck!

boatingmommy: yeah we're still working on the pipes...I would love a shower at this point... :( but, it'll work out eventually... you made a good goal this month, January is always great for motivating... :carrot: omelet, I might make one sorta like that in the morning... I like spinach in mine sometimes....pref my onions cooked... sounds good though :)

shr1nk1ingme: what is your food plan exactly? it looks protein...protein w low carb?

marymo: doing a good job with your goals, keep it up!! :D

workinglikeadog: good goal, sounds doable.... I've heard it helps not to eat after dinner and also not to have dinner too late, that been working for you?

stilettolife: I see your reward system there.... what's a "poachette"?? fashion thing???

seemyfeet: psyllium on your plan huh? fight fiber thing? what's your plan?

allyp: good luck, welcome back? :cheer3:

kilketay: whole foods, plant based huh? like vegan or just clean eating?

southernbell: good to see you have a reward system, I had a tattoo on mine too when I had rewards up....might just add some, sure is nice to shoot for something besides th end of the rainbow huh??

nickadee: welcome and good luck!!

183stgb: ah, school is a tough one for being on plan sometimes but sounds like maybe less hectic? good luck... :chin:

sum38: welcome back and good luck!!

Rsadler: omg...onederland...I'm excited for you....:yay::yay::yay: good luck, see you around the board!

Jacqui d: don't see why you can't get a whoosh if you didn't during already....I bet you will ;)

jennybutler: I am highly interested in your phentermine stuff, that seems like its working out for you? was that the script only thing? They banned that once right? I'm interested... if it's script only my docs have never been interested in helping me get insurance help for anything weight related....eh...

pnkrckpixicat: howdy again, good to see ya. looks like you had a lil whoosh there, good job!

ajlee: no sweat on a very slight increase, could be retention, will go away just fine....no worries!!

gardnerjoy: thanks for managing this new thread, good job keeping w your goals!!

ok so it's time to write my check in info I guess:

I am going to use what I had on the first rather than before for my start so my goal will be 250 for January. I'm still doing well although I had margarine yesterday which is not allowed in this but it didn't hurt. I don't like much of seafood without something to dip in.

Still going for mainly veggies, meat and fruit w a little dairy. the diet is extreme at 500 cals so I'm going more for 1,000 and allowing pork. :)

ajlee ahh the sodium mighta caused retention, just stay OP and it'll go back the other way again

gardener thats a great start! go you!

rsadler woot new low at ww weigh in! good job!

susan looks like you have some water retention, drink lots of water, with lemon if you like it that way, it helps

darius nice drop!

teati you can do it!

turtle ooops! throw some lemon in with that water, it helps and tastes yummy

nightangel yup, that water is coming off, I wish faster but all I can control is my patience.

Today I went to the gym and got a decent workout in. I have also been working on my pushups. I do angled pushups cause I don't have the strength for floor ones yet. I moved to a lower angle and can only do one or two at a time :( but soon enough that'll climb and before I know it I will lower my angle again!

pnkrckpixikat
01-02-2014, 07:00 PM
night angel what are you doing? 500 seems SUPER low, 1000 is still crazy low but much more managable if you have the right foods... make sure to take vitamins or something though!

darius
01-02-2014, 07:12 PM
I have also been working on my pushups. I do angled pushups cause I don't have the strength for floor ones yet.

I do knee pushups because I can't move my entire bodyweight. It's kinda privately humiliating because I used to be in the marine corps but at least I'm doing pushups of some kind and I'm making progress. I'll be back to doing real pushups in time for summer.

Yeah NightAngel 500 is hella low. Don't wreck your health please but also don't take nutritional advice from me.

NightAngel26
01-02-2014, 09:34 PM
darius and pnkrckpixicat: eh, yes I know 500 is super low, sometimes people are willing to do anything I guess... I planned it last year before I found out I was pregnant and bought the stuff to try it but I was reading here that the diet (HTC) is not supported here and I thought about it and understand why. It's just too dang low. So it'll be more like IP but I don't buy special stuff I just eat more things with higher protein. As for calories, I've spent so long looking at calories and such that I have a relative idea but am not going with strict adherence, mostly because it's hard enough going low carb when most of what I eat is carbs- cereal, pasta, sandwiches, wraps, chips, and yes pastries and cakes. So, although I do eat other things I've eaten a lot of carbs and tend to find them and overeat.

I'm doing well so far with rare twangs of cravings, kinda wanted a sandwich when I made them for the kids today, yesterday really wanted ice cream from the freezer but totally walked away :encore:

Yes I need to find the vitamins I bought for this diet....was a long time ago and I have way too many things :(

Workinglikeadog, you are so welcome! This is really a great group to be a part of. The ladies and gents on this thread just don't realize how big a part they play in keeping me motivated and if I can help others in the same way, I'm delighted! :D

Shr1nk1ngme, yay on the lb down! :dancer:

Ajlee, I'm sure that's just a little water from working out. :exercise: (Your body has to repair those muscles!) It will be gone before you know it!

Joy, thanks for the list, and great job on the drop! :flow2:

Rsadler, yay! Keep it going! :broc:

Susan, no worries, just a little water weight! :dizzy: Stay on plan, drink water, and it will drop back off!

Darius, woohoo on the good start! :cp:

Hi Marion! :welcome: 6 lbs is a good goal! :goodluck:

Turtle, you got this!

NightAngel, congrats on being a lb down! :cb: I'm glad you aren't doing HTC or 500 calories. I was surprised that you were counting calories on a low-carb diet since going low-carb kind of regulates overeating on its own, but it's not unheard of. Some people just like to know the calorie count, kind of like I want to know how much I weigh every single day. It's just an added way to keep track!

Night Angel:

"Still going for mainly veggies, meat and fruit w a little dairy. the diet is extreme at 500 cals so I'm going more for 1,000 and allowing pork. "

I do not want to be giving advise, but I cannot hold back on a warning for you being as you say you are pregnant. Other than being pregnant I would say nothing, as your situation would have to work itself out soon anyway. A person who eats too short of a caloric intake for their diet will start feeling lethargic, listless, depressed and worst of all, lessor mental abilities and soon go off that plan. And that is exactly what happened to me when I was eating around 700-900 calories a day back in Sept.

However, with you in early stages of pregnancy, going too short can cause severe life long problems for your child, cleft palate being one of the worst.

At your weight and height your maintenance caloric requirements are somewhere between 2400 - 3000 calories per day. Some sites say less, some as much as 3800. Unfortunately it is extremely difficult to find reliable info on this. The US government "My Plate" is supposed to be the most reputable and you would have to put in the info there yourself to get their data.

Losing weight while pregnant I know there is no problem with, but one should be very careful to take daily multi vitamins to insure proper minerals and such and use a doctors advice.

My cousins wife, many years back, was put on a diet by her doctor to make for a safer pregnancy and she lost something like 50 lbs while pregnant. She was obese. So I know it can safely be done and should be. And I also know you are placing your child in danger if you go too low on required nutrition.

Please go to a doctor and use his/her advise and be safe.

I hope you take no offense on this.

Best regards and wishes for both you and your child.

yesterday's exercise: jackie warner extreme cardio workout
yesterday's calories: 1700

hi everybody :)

So, my reason for coming back to school early was that I could focus on studying - I just found out the library is closed until the 8th. I'm one of those people that don't do well studying at home (too many distractions - Netflix, pnkrckpixikat ;)), but I really need to get started so I hope pressure will force me to do so.
On a good note, the weather is supposed to be nice the next couple of days, so I can go run.
I tried this new workout DVD last night: jackie warner extreme cardio workout. Has anyone tried it? The lady scares me a bit (SO MANY MUSCLES!!) and I'm not sure what the cardio was supposed to be, but my legs and shoulders are sore today. So, must be good ;)

Jacqui_D haha, baby woosh! ;) You'll sure get it. And like the others said, thanks for being so awesome with the personals!!

gardenerjoy thanks for taking care of the list :)

Rsadler126 yay for being down after NYE!

darius hi!! I'm also weighing-in on Fridays this month! You had a great start!

NightAngel26 It's pretty weird, the more busy I am, the better I am with eating and exercise. So I'm glad to be back at school :) Also, thanks for the personals :)
About the 1000cal diet: try to make sure you eat healthy. I personally would find such a low calorie diet hard to maintain, so maybe kick-start and then find something a little more sustainable? But also don't take diet-advice from me, at the moment I'm better at gaining than at losing ;) I totally agree with what Big Fat Rooster said though.

pnkrckpixikat no worries about the angled push-ups! I don't have a lot of arm-strength, so after one year of doing it regularly, mine still aren't too great. My crossfit coach/trainer/instructor/person/whatever it's called said the important thing is the posture, so I try to focus on keeping my back straight and stomach hard instead of dropping down super far.

ajlee33 hi :) what kind of little workouts do you do? I'm looking for couple good exercises I can do before school, that don't take up a lot of time and don't wear me out. I'm thinking about starting the plank-challenge (http://30dayfitnesschallenges.com/30-day-plank-challenge/) right now. Well, actually I think I'll start tomorrow. Thanks for making me think :P

Okay, I'll pretend I'm at the library now. Have a great day everyone!! :belly:

Wow, there is a lot of catching up to do on here from just one day to the next!!! Looks like everyone is starting out the month strong, with a good plan in mind. I was a bit of a naughty girl yesterday. :devil:Was cleaning out the fridge and found a couple of lost and sad looking peanut butter balls (peanut butter, powdered sugar and chocolate coating) and I ate them before I had a chance to get control of myself. Hated myself all day for it...So, I made sure there are no more left over sweets from Christmas in the house. Hubby promptly deposited the few remaining items in the trash for me last night.
The weekend is upon us already. It's going to be cold and snow possibly 6-9 inches here. I am making my weekend goal to work out both days with my videos...I see some Turbo Jam in my future! :exercise: Okay everyone...be good to yourselves today!!!

Rhiko what a fine cat! I miss having a cat. We lost our cat last year; she was 21 years old.

Thank you :) Wow, 21! That's impressive. I just got mine back from the cattery today and she's been meowing all day just to make sure I'm still around. Her voice is croaking now, too

Jan 1: 151.9
Jan 2: 152.4

Nothing in the last 3 days has been on plan from New Years eve to New Years Day Celebrations and being home sick yesterday, but it can only get better from here!!

Big Fat Rooster, 183stgb: sorry, didn't mean to mislead you, I'm not pregnant really , I remember what post might lead you to think that....poorly worded I suppose...no, I'm previously pregnant and I didn't diet at all during as I lost one at 5 months just trying not to overeat so I wasn't taking any chances...as strange as that sounds...nope I ate most everything. I didn't do too bad though, lost almost all of the weight by the time I left the hospital. It was c-section though so it took me longer to be allowed to really move around and I'm still not exercising much yet.

but hey, gives me a chance to show off my lil lovebug. he's almost 3 months now :) hopefully the attachment went through. I'd get after me too if I tried to diet pregnant! :rollpin:

Ajlee, being on your feet will definitely help! I just saw a Dr. Oz episode the other day that said just about the best thing we can do exercise-wise is simply get up from our sitting position every 15 minutes throughout the day and move a little :jig:and you'll be on your feet for most the day! I'd say that counts for something!

Hi Kaitie9399! Good to have you! :goodluck:

Rhiko, a brand new month and a brand new year! There's no stopping you from reaching that 63 kg this time! :cheer:

183, does the town or city where your university is located have a library where you could study until your library opens up? If so, that might be a little more peaceful for you. :book2: And little Baby Whoosh did come to visit me last night, lol! :D

Hi lemc87 (Leanna), I'm so glad you to decided to join us! :goodluck:

Kelijpa, oh I like that! Your high for the year, lol! What a great way to think of it, and won't it be great if that is your high for the whole year! :flow2:

Boating, that just made me laugh out loud! Those sad little peanut butter balls were being so neglected, lol! I'm sure gobbling them up isn't going to hurt anything, but I'm glad hubby threw out any other poor little treats! :lol3:

Woodstock, I hope you feel better! :getwell:

nightangel awwww he's adorable!!!

jacqui you are starting strong! keep it up girl!

darius I read somewhere that knee pushups don't work your muscles the same so it is difficult to switch from those to "real" pushups. I think it explained that it works the arms but doesn't engage the core so you build the proper arm strength but not the core strength. It recommended the inclined ones instead. Like against a bench or counter or table etc. because it engages all the same muscles in the same way except your balance of weight would be altered, so more on your feet and less on your arms. The lower you get to the ground the more balanced it becomes. I feel you on the feeling embarressed, I used to do gymnastics as a kid and I was working on handstand pushups around the time I was pulled out, basically pushing up and down from handstand to headstand.

woodstock it can be your yearly high, just like kelijpa

jaqui d: yeah I sorta like keeping a vague number but even on low carb I can eat everything...meat will still do it....veggies not usually but meat I might overdo. Yes, I must track things in order to stay focused, without focus I'll fall off and stay off....as happens at some point.

ajlee33: nice job on the workouts...yeah being on your feet and moving for work seems to help a lot....probably for not always looking at food or bored eating if you do that, I know I do. :dizzy:

kaitie9399 welcome, good goals!

rhiko howdy, welcome!

allyp: hey yw, I love this place, it helps to keep accountable and to talk to others about what's going on. I tend to disappear when I misbehave, I see others do it too so don't feel bad if you do too....the best thing about this might just be that others understand the struggle it is to get somewhere with weight, fitness, whatever it is that people here work towards, though this thread personally more weight related. LOVE the tickers here though....I was so jazzed when I earned mine!! :carrot:

183stgb: maintain?? lol I don't think I'll be on this forever...I do like carbs but I need to learn to eat less...shrink my stomache I guess if that's possible...and to regulate what portions I eat.....no not maintaining this diet...just a temporary way to get closer to my goal. It may backfire, can't be any worse than the last 20 diets... and soon hopefully I can add some exercise, or be working regularly again....work preferably, I like to pay bills...well....something like that :chin:

lemc87: hey welcome!! what's no no foods?

kelijpa: hey, nice to see ya.... good goals.... good luck!

boatingmommy: oh no, pb balls!! My mother used to make those...wow those are rich...but hey, shouldn't do any permanent damage.... "just keep swimming, swimming, swimming..." lol :)

I won't have much time to post today and there won't be much to post anyway.

It's a DownDay so I am eating two eggs and some broth, maybe a GG's Scandinavian crispbread to keep the supplements down. I don't weigh in on DD's.

No time for a workout since I am going to be running around all day doing errands and I literally won't be home until after midnight. Busy, busy day ahead!

Well, still doing ok...thought I might have messed up yesterday with dinner because it seemed filling and most of the time I want to go find more to eat with meals and it seemed like I ate a lot but so far so good. Last night was a few steak strips, baby carrots, mushrooms and onions in a lil terriaki sauce. mornings have been fruit, yogurt (yes I know lil carbish), and/or coffee. Lunches so far have been salads heavy on lettuce w some kind of meat in them.

Good morning ladies. Got a bit of exercise in this am, getting the kinks out. I had to really work at not snacking last night, but I did succeed :carrot:

Joy, thank you for the list, it's nice to be inspired by a whole group of motivated women. I did notice I was listed twice, wondering if the universe is trying to tell me to lose 8 pounds this month. I did gain in all in a few weeks, but it doesn't seem to come off as easy :(

nightangel - yes no pm snacking works for two reasons. One, I don't consume another meal before bedtime. Two, it makes me less obsessed with eating something throughout the day. I am not counting calories but decided to write down all that I eat on paper, and comment on how well I loved my body at the end of the day. This reality check seems to work well for me also. p.s.- what a cutie pie baby!

pixikat - thank you for the encouragement, I am working at strong healthy habits. I have to keep remembering how good it feels to be thinner and not always thinking about snacking/eating. One day at a time.

Make it a good Day!

Thank you pixikat - yeah what you wrote makes sense. I've done enough real pushups and enough knee pushups(lately) to know that what you're saying is right; it's not the same thing. I'll try some inclined ones somewhere. I'm just glad to be out moving around and not having lower back problems etc.

hi everybody :)

I had a mega dumb exercise day yesterday: I ended up not running because it rained, so I decided to do a home workout DVD. Thing is, heating and hot water was broken at my dorm last night, so I changed into workout clothes, goose bumps all over, started the workout and then realized I won't even be able to shower afterwards. So I was like, naaah, thanks!! It was stupid but it really wouldn't have been worth it. Water and heating is back today and I already went for a run :) So, happy day!

kelijpa I'm sure it's your high of the year... keep going!

boatingmommy trashing the junk food was a good moove. I do it too. It's absolutely dumb and throwing away perfectly good food is totally unethical, but I think sometimes it needs to be done.

Sum38 nice woosh! wooohoo!

Woodstock I'm glad to see you're back. Hope you feel better soon!

NightAngel26 your kid is ADORABLE!! hahaha, yeah, maintaing a diet is dumb! I think shrinking your stomach kinda does work - or at least I feel like if I eat smaller portions for a longer period of time, I get full quicker. I'm trying to do it right now - I will stay at school for the next 2 months and considering it's closer to exams not many social events. Should work fine!

Jacqui_D and gardenerjoy : yeah, my town does have a public library but it's not a study environment. Even though everybody is quiet, there is still a lot of movement as people are browsing. I did really well at home yesterday though :) Unplugged the internet, cleaned up before I started, and then put my butt down. I'll survive till Tuesday :) It's just inconvenient.

Great job Sum must feel wonderful breaking into the next decade after being stalled so long last month.

NightAngel your little guy is adorable, congrats!

Jacqui you're making great progress! :congrat:

WorkingLikeaDog great job resisting the snacking urge, I find that's a great indicator to me that I'm working my program. If I'm not fighting the urge, I'm probably eating something I shouldn't :D

PixiKat and Darius I'm doing the knee push-ups, too, I really haven't been able to transition at all to regular push-ups, like sometimes I can't even do one! So today I tried to do one using a bench, not sure I was in the right position and since I did arms yesterday I could really feel it, so I tried against the wall it actually felt like a good stretch for my tight arms so I did 10 and will figure out a way to incorporate the incline in place of some of the knee ones. I do planks as well, love them for overall toning.

183 great job overcoming your challenges back at school, great idea unplugging the internet to focus, I was wondering about the public library, too, but you've found a solution and with the exercise as well, glad to hear your heat and hot water are fixed, what a drag!

dcapulet: welcome... have I seen you on these kinds of boards in the past? maybe last year?

pnkeckpixicat: yes, all flushed I think....now onto working for it lol....

lisa4621: welcome! what's your plan?

183stgb: ty he's a good baby. Yes, I can't stick with anything forever, I'm a very inconsistent person. The difference is choosing to stay long enough to see results and learning to moderate better and more often I think...plus I've heard that if you eat less in general your stomach shrinks to accommodate... at least to a point. Not my belly mind you, I worry what that's going to look like in the end...but eh...had kids...been obese.

Sounds like you din't have a lot of luck w your workout...sorry to hear, but you did try....yeah we have only one cold water source here for days, so know what you're thinking there w showers!

I am catching my breathe right now, I just stepped of the treadmill. I need to get some pork chops marinating for supper, fold two loads of laundry, take a shower and make a quick lunch for everyone ( husband and 2 girls, ages 5 and 15.)

Then we need to go to Wal-Mart. My sweet husband spilled coffee on Lexi's kindergarten school pictures. All put one are ruined. I am going to try and print some off. if that doesn't work I will have to see if I can still order some from school. My husband teaches at the college, so he needs some supplies to start the new semester with. Lexi want a princess poster to hang in her room because her big sister Kaylea has posters in her room.

I haven't thought much after that. I really need to meal plan for the week and make a grocery list out. I do soooo much better when I have my food ready and just don't grab something without thinking about it.

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend.

Today I am down another pound to 163.8 so I am two pounds into the January challenge already.

Easy day today, just taking down Christmas decorations and cleaning up the house after my daughter's sleepover last night. A bit of gardening later today. Yes, gardening. It's been in the mid-70's here. So sorry for all of the ladies who live in the COOOOOLD parts of the nation and the few Down Under where it is 120 degrees right now... :(

I'm in my goal weight for the end of January is 199. I know this is alot but I am thinking that it is achievable. I currently weigh 215 and have been slowly loosing this last month. I am ok watching the pounds come off slowly due to the fact I believe they will stay off. My goal is to loose 16 pounds in January 2014, and I do think if I stick to the plan and keep on track with my exercise I believe I can do this. The most important thing to me is the fact that I will have the support of the people on 3 fat chicks and know with all of your support this is something I can attain.
I love the change that is coming to me in self confidence along with knowing I no longer have to be ok with things how they are. I'm in control of my life and my future.
I feel that this new way of eating is making such an important change in how I look at my husband. He loves me for me and stands by what I'm doing and supports me emotionally when I need it. I also know that I am feeling like I am a better wife, if you all know what I mean. I like myself so I don't run away in the bedroom;)

WOW !!!:encore:

Stop the world and let me offff..................

This thread is MOVING :woohoo:

Usually we hit 7 pages on the 8th of the month, this month already half way down page 10 and only the 4th of the month :sp:

Jacqui: Congrats on the 40 lbs mark WTG :bravo: And about those 5 posts I lost.... that occurred over three days, it was frustrating enough that I no way could do that 5 times in a straight in a row :D But thanks for thinking I could :D

shr1nk1ngme: About carrying 22 extra lbs with you on your two mile walks..... Extra weight that we carry destroys our knees etc as it is, were you to walk an extra 1/4 mile, about 10 minutes, would burn the same amount of calories and not endanger your joints, especially the feet and knees. They wear out too soon as it is............ think about it.

jennybutler357: I googled that phentermine, that stuff is in the methamphetamine family, and they are a rotten bunch :fr:

ajlee33: "Kinda cheated yesterday with a piece of bacon" Gosh, one piece of bacon is only 20-50 calories... No biggie :D But myself, I doubt that I could stop at one piece, LOVE THAT STUFF :D LOL Good going !!

kelijpa: You mentioned that weight loss makes things taste sweeter, YES, I REALLY noticed that. I mentioned in a few posts back that I bought an apple and a pumpkin pie and intended to eat some of that during Xmas..... Jazqui quipped in that she loved pumpkin pie. :D It is practically my favorite also, however, I got one slice, it was so darn sweet I could not stand it  I only ate one piece of it but did not want to 'fess up to that. I bought some yams and will make my own sweet tater pie maybe next week, it is about the same as pumpkin. Or I just may make my own pumpkin with much less sugar. Thanks for the info

pnkrckpixikat: Thanks for mentioning those inclined pushups, I will find out how much of an incline I can handle and start doing some of those also. I have way too much artheritis in my shoulders, have not been able to do a pushuo for thirty years now, but I used to knock them off forever. Oh well.....

NightAngel: "Big Fat Rooster, 183stgb: sorry, didn't mean to mislead you, I'm not pregnant really " :D Thanks, I am very happy to be wrong :carrot: And what a handsome baby........... WOW!! I must be the father..........

lemc87: Good idea cutting out the no-no junk foods, soda and chips etc. Speaking for myself, I have cut those out and all processed foods except for water packed canned tuna and a few canned goods, mainly beans. The only problem I see with those two is the large amount of sodium. I also cut out all dairy products (ugh) and all lunch meats such as salami, Bologna, ham, etc. For lunch meats now, I cook my own, something like chicken or turkey breast or tongue (my favorite) and slice them up for sandwichs. I have also cut way back on bread having way fewer sandwiches than I was having when first on this weight loss trip. I plan on remaining off processed foods entirely due to the unhealthy additives in them but will try to work a few dairy back in when I get to maintenance weight. But for now, for me, I am having a time wanting to go low carb but cannot go with too much meat due to risk of gout. Trying to work my way through all that. Catch 22 stuff.

Susan: "Hope everyone is staying warm and safe with all the snowing going on all over. I am in SC and it has been cold and windy here." That goes for me also Susan, I am in Southern California and we also will get just a bit of cooling off as the rest of you have to go through that super cold spell coming your way. Don't remember who it was on the frozen water pipes, but I bought a house up at Lake Arrowhead some years back and it had suffered a bunch of frozen and busted water pipes. First thing I did was purchase some of that heat tape made for running on water pipes and putting it on all exposed pipes then adding that foam rubber insulation over them. No more problems with freeze. I would recommend getting some very fast and getting it on there. It uses very little electricity, it only comes on when the temps get down close to freezing and only put out enough heat to keep them from freezing. Well worth it. Good luck all of ya, feel for you in this upcoming storm.

Sum38: "Even after a trip to a Brazilian steak house I stayed the same" LMAO thanks for the laugh Sum, and keep up the good work, U do great :D

I did not find where it was on this second trip through in reading the posts, but someone mentioned that they heard that if a person eats way less, their stomach shrinks. That is VERY true, and the last time I lost weight it did exactly that for me. However on that time, my weight loss plan was similar to this time as far as eating went but I was able to exercise and did so heavily and lost a lot of weight really rapidly. One very important thing I did was to do a lot of exercise before breakfast. Being as it was winter and we got a lot of snow in the mountains, a large part of my exercise was indoors, and my stairs was the most important part. I would run up and down the stairs several times, do some pushups and other exercises, then run up and down some more. Doing exercise before breakfast makes one lose their appetite, the body gets it's energy source from the stored fat reducing the fat, the liver converting fat to glucose and releasing that into the bloodstream. Then when I did feel the need to eat, I had made my mind up to eat just enough for what I thought the body needed. Two months into that and down more than 40 lbs. I was down in Riverside visiting my best friend and doing some construction report work gratis for his wife. Anyway, we went to a Chinese place and he ordered orange chicken. I had never heard of it, but ordered same. We got a heaping plate each. I ate about a third of mine and was feeling full.... He was chowing down on his. We used to eat the same way. He asked what was wrong, didn't I like it? LOL It was absolutely delicious, but no way could I eat that if I wanted to, nor did I want to. That was when I realized my stomach had indeed shrank, and shrank a lot. And now with this diet, I do not eat to feel full, and stop way short of that........ Usually :s:

Joy, and all of you, you have been doing great. I counted 44 people on this thread while ago :D Due to the great posting by most of you, and especially Jacqui with her outstanding personals which are uncannily right on :D Thanks again all of ya with a special thanks to Jacqui.

Being as I relaxed my goal amount down to a more reasonable 8 lbs, I started having more difficulty sticking on plan. Doing much better today and hope to get it tightened back down right, goal or no goal. Something I gotta do for me. What do they say........... "Give a kid an inch and they will take a mile." From my 5th grade teacher, Ms Boley, 95 years old, maybe 90 lbs and spry as a 30 year old :D Guess I had better give my inch back :?:

Thanks again all of ya

Big Fat Rooster

AJlee33: "big-fat-rooster do you eat before you workout In the morning??"

No, I don't. That would defeat most of the purpose. Eating prior and one would not feel as much like working out and the food gets in t he way, for one thing, and the second thing is the body will immediately start converting fat to glucose to provide energy for the body and start burning the fat store. However, I am one of those whose body releases glucose very early in the morning to provide energy for the body and I do not need any added energy. Then when exercising, the body will pick up fat from the fat cells, carry them to the liver for conversion to glucose, and still no hunger for most of the time a person is very active and then for some time after. I seldom eat earlier than 10:am and often, like today, go til noon before I eat.

Good luck with yours

well, I figured I'd update today...I had my first pasta in a while. We went to dinner and I really didn't want to offend so I ate a half portion of lasagna and a piece of garlic bread and salad. I hope it doesn't hurt.

Also, thanks everyone who's been writing to me.

BFR: you're so funny.... and boy you wrote a bunch today!! I know this thread moves fast doesn't it? your "stop the world" comment....have you seen that play?? it's funny but omg long. Also ty for chiming in on the smaller stomach concept I thought I had heard that before and it seems reasonable.

Also..... anybody want to recommend their favorite tracker thing to wear? I'm looking intently at the fitbit force....would like it to track sleep as well as burn, calories, etc.... I have android devices or can use my computer...not so much mac but we do have a mac laptop. So, best thing? kinda like the armband but prob the wrist is more stable....??

kelijpa glad to see the scale is moving the right way!

susan1975 nice drop!

NightAngel26 I'm not sure if a stomach can really shrink or if the brain just tells you you're full faster if you eat less for a while. I just googled that and those two options came up. In any case, we should eat less :P
my belly ain't perfect either - but working on it ;) I love the 30 day shred! Hope you got to do your workout DVD!

pnkrckpixikat you have no idea how glad this entire dorm was when the hot water came back ;) Keeping my fingers crossed you're losing the water weight!

allyp amazing drop! well done.

Jacqui_D congrads on being down 40lbs! Great milestone in this journey.

ajlee33 stick with your plan and you'll see a loss soon :) good luck.

finale happy to see you join us. 16lbs is a big goal for one month, but if you stick to your plan you can do it. I like the "I'm in control of my life and my future." -- because it is so true.

Big Fat Rooster I noticed I am less hungry when I exercise before breakfast, too. Research actually supports that (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2267548/Why-exercise-BEFORE-breakfast--youll-burn-20-cent-body-fat.html). But I also noticed that when I exercise in the morning (especially running) I am tired and worn out the entire day, so it isn't really worth it when I need to be productive... also I like my bed too much.
Anyways, :dust: for staying on plan!

SharShar1, freckfrecks and Joyfulme :welcome: We can do this!!

Have a great day! :belly:

so I'm the same today, which works. Yeah I dunno if the stomach shrinks or not but I've had a few moments when I've looked at my plate (usually with a bunch of veggies left) and think how I might not be hungry.... the question then is will I eat anyway as I've always done? I still seem to finish my plate, but also without these veggies I'm probably not getting what I'm supposed to in this diet....I dunno.

ajlee I know it can be frustrating, but your body has to cooperate eventually. If you just started working out you may also be retaining water to repair muscles etc which can mask loss. Maybe try focusing more on non-scale goals so you don't get so stressed by it moving or not. Some people set up fitness goals, or x number of days perfect OP. Than if they go off plan the next challenge is to beat the streak before.

BFR you are right, this thread is flying along! You're welcome about the inclined push ups! I hope you find you can do them without stressing your shoulder too much. My mom has neck and shoulder problems and her pysio has her doing them against a wall.

nightangel it sounds like you stayed within a reasonable size for servings so you may see a small bump due to sodium. Other than that you should be fine as long as it doesn't set off cravings.... also, maybe start by eating the veggies, or eat half of them before you start eating the other tings that way you still get some of their nutrients.

joyfulme and vicki1 welcome! sounds like you both have great goals!

183 I can only imagine! We had an ice storm here in the beginning of dec and whole buildings of the apartments lost power. My hubby and I were out of town but the school was closed but the skeleton crew were trying to find places with power to let the residents sleep and set up an agreement with the dining hall for food. Apparently everyone was camped out in the student union for the better part of 3 days.

kelijpa water with lemon is a great thing to drink to help flush water weight

yay! back to my NYE weigh in weight... now just to work back to my christmas eve weight of 243.0 than onto new numbers! (for this round at least lol) I felt puffy and my rings were tight this morning so maybe this will even happen in the next day or two.

SW - 244.6
GW - 239.6

pnkrckpixikat

sum some peoples bodies hold water in their fat cells when the fat leaves, so the water keeps them at about the same weight. Then, at various intervals, the fat cells will flush out the water giving a quick whoosh of loss. Maybe your body is doing this? Are you tracking measurements or anything else to keep your head in the game when the scale is being stubborn?

My Jan goal is to lose 4 & no p.m. snacking. Progress to date:
1/1 - 158 & no p.m. snacking
1/4 - 157 & continued success with no p.m. snacking.

joy- thanks for the correction, still, it would be great to lose more than 4.

bigfr- I exercise before b-fast too.

night- fave videos include Jazzercise-dancin' abs, Tamilee-tighter assets, AmyDixon-breathless body 1 & 2, Leslie(if I can't get outside to walk my dog) and Ana Brett-fat free yoga. *** I wear a Striiv on my pant loop, which is an accurate pedometer plus records stairs, miles, cals & mins of activity. It has challenges and rewards - very motivating. ***I try to eat my fruits & veggies first because the fiber keeps me full and helps flush out wastes.

jacqui- bravo on 40 down! Where in Ohio, I grew up in Cincy.

susan- having plans makes all the difference.

finale- I so agree about mentally believing. Head first - body will follow.

ailee-stay with the plan and believe.

Thank you ladies for your great support. Keep up the great work everyone and lets make January a great month. :cp:

ajlee33 "1/4 - 225.4. When will I see a loss"

That sorta question comes up very frequently. The answer is not simple nor easy to answer nor the same for everyone. I am gonna take a shot at it though.

But the simplistic answer is, it will show up when it shows up. And that is only IF... you are taking in less calories than is required to maintain your current weight (and this also takes into acccount the amount of energy/calories expended for any exercise plus what the individuals body requires just to be, to live.

This is different per person and and changes as the individual puts on more muscle mass and/or loses body fat.

And... will not show on the scales until the body is ready to let it show.

There are multiple variables which change the time of when it shows in the scales. For one, the body does not like to change size, much more so on some than others. For many, the fat cells which have had fat removed to supply the muscles with energy will place water in them to maintain the current size. An increase in weight can show up although there is a loss of fat.

Exercise does several things, all which are very beneficial to weight loss but can also help mask fat loss at the same time. For one, muscle weighs more than fat. When you perform exercise in excess of your normal amount you will both burn more calories/fat plus cause the body to build/add more muscle to help it with future exercise of the same. Your body will decrease in size but may gain in weight due to the muscle increase and "tone" the body.

Exercising different muscle groups will build muscle in different areas accelerating this growth/addition of muscle. This will result in more weight but less mass and causes things to happen like clothing getting baggy and trips to the clothing stores. :yikes: Also, but much less noticeable, the bone structure will get denser in those areas to provide the strength needed to prevent bone fracture. And of course this is more weight, but less mass.

Plus, when first exercising muscles which have not been exercised they will get sore and surround themselves with liquid adding temporary weight. This does not last long, but shows a short term gain on the scales. So you have liquids collecting in the fat cells and more muscle weight and liquid around any sore muscle groups.

Taking in sodium causes the body to retain more water, thus scale weight. Cutting back on salt/sodium helps fix that, plus drinking more water to help flush it out. Adding lime or lemon to the water also helps flush it out.

For the liquid in the fat cells, the best way to get the liquid out of the cells is by doing extended (time wise) exercise of a rate in which one breathes heavy and perspires a lot, or in other words strenuous exercise. The body will be in a stressed type of condition and take immediate measures to relieve that stress. Giving up the excess liquid being the first thing the body will do in order to reduce the weight the body has to carry, making further exercise easier for the body.

I speak of the body as if it makes conscience decisions like our minds do, but that of course is not the case. The body RE-ACTS to stimuli, it does not take initiative action. It is up to us to provide the stimuli to produce the effects one wants. There is another way of getting the body to give up some of that liquid, which is diuretic action (taking in ascorbic acids such as in lime or lemon juice, or taking vitamin c or OTC diuretics), taking in less salt, or flushing out the salt. (drinking more water) Both of these can be dangerous to ones health if overdone. And the body will quit reacting to the stimuli of diuretics to quite a degree in short time. These are not recommended actions. The best way of ridding the excess liquids with no harm is strenuous exercise. The next best way is time. In time it will leave the body.

But, as first stated, if one does not have that shortfall of calories there will be no weight loss.

For a successful weight loss one must have some sort of a plan and stick with it to the extent required for weight loss.

In the news today, there is a story of a high school teacher who did a weight loss project with some of his students. For 90 days the students picked out the teachers meals for the day. The catchy part was it was all bought from McDonald's. The meals included (overall) the entire menu of Mc, including Big :burger:Macs, shakes, fries and soft drinks. But they kept the diet limited to 2000 calories per day. Plus the teacher (a science teacher) exercised daily. His loss over the 90 days was 37 lbs, that is over 12 lbs a month on McDonald's food. Obviously, the exercise played a huge part of his weight loss. My own calories are far below that 2000, but I am not doing enough exercise to make a big a fast weight reduction.

And there are plans like Oprah, who has gone from obese to skinny and back several times. She cannot make it stick.

And there is the plan like those women in the news in New York yesterday have. Their plan was to take a sledge hammer to their scales and say to **** with it, I am gonna be what I am, smashed the scales and that is it. :D (wonder how many of them change their minds this year, buy new scales and start again 50 lbs heavier than they are now):lol::tape::crazy::rofl:

We are what and where we are now due to the choices we have made. We will be what we are next week or month or year due to the choices we make now and tomorrow and the tomorrows that come.

It is much more the amount of exercise and how much we eat than what we eat that determines our body size, and the what we eat determines a large amount of how our health is.

Ut oh, I see someone else wants to use this soapbox, I will climb down and let them have it :D

And I will try to not get back on it for a few weeks :D

I hope to see a big drop as soon as that mirilax works. But I am glad to be posting here, it keeps my honest and I would never remember my weigh ins everyday without this. It looks like I now need to go down 9 pounds by the end of the month. Not sure if that will happen. I really want yo be in onederland by Valentine's day.

I do feel bloaty or something, like puffy....happens near TOM too but it's not time....that likes the end of the month, so that it always happens for my birthday :woo: which is not til June but it will be that way.... there's your local TMI for the day!

Never did find my Jillian DVD.... dunno where it is, have a porchfull of bags and boxes of things plus some in garage, probably will deal with it in the spring mostly. Might find my DVD before then if I get ambitious. I've rearranged the stuff out there 3 or 4 times already :chin:

No losses to report on the scale this morning. Holding steady at 163.8. After a brutal DownDay yesterday it is so discouraging to not see even an ounce fall away. :( But I had a salty broth late last night and it's probably just water.

Today is an UpDay which means I get to eat, but I am so busy today I don't know if I will have time.

Have to take DD to school and then take her rat (yes, her pet rat) to the vet. Followed by myriad other stuff. My to-do list is literally two whole handwritten pages long. Ugh.

Not doing so good so far this month. I need a change in the weather so everyone can go back to school and work...so we are not just sitting here all day bored. I did work out yesterday during the snowstorm. Turbo Jam...love it!!! Somehow I have to get up the motivation to go out in the below freezing weather and dig my car out. Going to work in short bursts because the risk to my health is not worth having the car out.

jacqui, I went to college in Florida, meet this guy from Oregon - fell in love, visited Oregon and then moved to Oregon. No more family in Ohio, but the next hs reunion may get me back to Ohio.

My Jan goal is to lose 4 & no p.m. snacking. Progress to date:
1/1 - 158 & no p.m. snacking
1/4 - 157 & continued success with no p.m. snacking.
1/6 - 156 & continued success with no p.m. snacking.

I planned my mid day snack carefully yesterday to try to avoid being over hungry by dinner time - - - & it worked. I had 1/8 cup kernels popped w/butter and peeled a small grapefruit and ate it section by section. I am not thinking about food all the time and not snacking all day ----a great success and it it showing on the scale.

Make it a great day:angel:

Hey everyone! Hope y'all had a great weekend!!

I weighed in this morning and wasn't really expecting much as my TOM decided to arrive too so I'm down half a pound since Wednesday 1st - it's ok but it's not as much as I would have liked. I've been good this week and I have kept up with the exercising every day, so I'm sure it's just water retention and I shouldn't get too hung up on it.

Well done all of you weighing and posting your daily weights!

Happy New Year everyone! I'm a late arrival this month... Just got back from holidays and getting back in the groove. Had a spectacular fall from
grace and weighed in today 9lb heavier than I was in December.

With that in mind, I've set some goals for 2014 which include losing weight but also then a maintenance challenge. For Jan, given I'm a week behind, I'm aiming to drop an ambitious four pounds.

Start Weight - 141
Goal Weight - 136

Jan 6 - 141

It's good to be back and looking forward to catching up on what I've missed over the next few days. xx

Ooh, also would love to hear other people's goals for 2014, looking to be inspired. Considering a half marathon in march?!! Do I dare it?

Hey did you all read that story on MSNBC.com about a science teacher who says he lost 37 pounds in 3 months eating at mcdonalds? He said he ate 2000 calories a day, and walked 45 minutes a day.
3 months, say that's 90 days, which is 12.86 weeks, which is a loss of 2.87 pounds a week! Do you all think it is possible to lose 2.87 pounds a week on 2000 calories a day, and walking 45 minutes a day? It just sounds improbable to me. Doesn't sound right.

Darius I heard some of that story, they said the students picked the food for him, it does sound improbable to me, it certainly isn't going to get me eating at McD's, we do eat there on occasion, I find it the hardest fast food place to find something healthy-ish to eat.

Minneey my goal for 2014 is to get to my goal weight, 143, then to maintain through the year.

Just watched a clip on the news about super losers or super dieters, i already forgot the title, lol, anyway, they said if you can keep the weight off for two years you have a great chance of keeping it off long term. So I kept some off so far for a year, so I'm hopeful I'll be able to maintain after getting it off this time.

Workinglikeadog, congrats on being another lb down! :carrot: And your story sounds like how I ended up in Ohio, lol! I grew up down South, but as much as I love it there, I wouldn't trade here for anything! I'm a Buckeye through and through!

Jenny, once TOM leaves, hopefully you'll get a whoosh of weight loss! :goodscale:

Vix, keep up the good work! :cp:

Woodstock, looks like you have a little bit of water weight hanging on, so be sure drink enough water!

Kilketay, I'm so glad you are past that stomach flu. What a terrible illness. It's been going around here too. I do hope you keep some of that weight loss! :crossed:

TrayTeam, yay on the drop! Keep it up! :dancer:

Minneey, glad you're back! And yes, you should definitely go for the half marathon! You can do it! :running:

Darius, I'd like to know what that teacher was eating because McD's has eggs and salads and chicken wraps, foods that aren't too bad, but when we think of McD's, we automatically think of Big Macs and fries. If he was eating the healthier choices, the results don't surprise me. I mean it was only 2000 calories a day for a man who obviously required more than that to maintain. Plus exercise! :dunno:

Imabehot, :welcome: Good to have you! :goodluck:

Thanks Kelijpa! Congrats on the drop! I know TOM is no fun, but hey, should bring a whoosh! Oh, and maintenance is part of my plan this year too! Good goal! :carrot:

Yay Ajlee! I'm glad the scale is moving for you! Way to stay on plan!

Pixikat, dropping back down! Great job staying on track! Keep up the good work! :broc:

183, thanks! Have a great day today! It sounds like you will! :book2:

Sum, you are doing great and your body, no matter how resistant to change, always ends up paying the piper! Keep it up! You'll be happy you did! :flow1:

Turtle, hm, has your scale been talking to Sum's scale? Regardless, keep up the good work! :flow2:

Hungry last night - harder not to snack, thank goodness a tall glass of ice chips and water does the trick. Still hungry this a.m. I had a fruit shake and felt full for a while. I am exercising harder than I have for a while. It's off to town today, with a full jug of water.

My Jan goal is to lose 4 & no p.m. snacking. Progress to date:
1/1 - 158 & no p.m. snacking
1/4 - 157 & continued success with no p.m. snacking.
1/6 - 156 & continued success with no p.m. snacking.

Make it a great day All:D

Well, I may venture out of my house and into the frozen wonderland outside. I am running out of all the healthy staples that I keep around, as well as the everyday necessities. TOM is hear and totally taking it's toll on me...ugh!! May or may not exercise later...see how it goes. Totally on points for the day, though, so keeping fingers crossed I'll see a drop soon. Everyone have a great day and night!
Minneey - good to see you back. Hope you had a fun break. Hopefully some of that nine is just water and comes off quickly!:goodluck:
Sum - My body is a total B***h! :club:But, in her defense, I've put her through ****...hopefully both our bodies will come round soon!
Jacqui - Way to go whoosh fairy!! :high: We are doing our best here to be safe in the frigid temps. Poor hubby works for a construction co. It was 20 degrees inside his shop this morning! YIKES!
WorkingLAD - I had to get something to eat last night...tummy was growling so loud my hubby turned down the tv and asked what that sound was. Opted for a banana - so at least it was healthy snacking.
Jenny - I hope you and I both see a big whoosh after TOM!!! It's hard being a woman sometimes!
pixikat - hope things slow down for you! I like to be busy, but not to the point of insanitity. I haven't been a good poster lately, but I do check in and read, too.
kelijpa - I guess you and I are at about the same weight. I will look to you for positive competition to continue losing! You have been doing so great!:cheer2::cheer3:
Killketay - hope your tummy is all better soon! This flu season is already turning out to be a doozy!
Susan - I hope you are feeling better, too!
Darius - I watched the news special on it yesterday. It sounds improbable to me, too. Like keli said - I'm not going to rush to Mickey Ds anytime soon.:mcd: I have found that I am really glad they put in a Panda Express at the nearby shopping center. I can stay on points easily there. (although, you probably get enough asian inspired food where you are at?)
183 - Glad your studies are going well. Hope you enjoyed your holiday yesterday!
Turtle, Night, ajlee - Hang in there gals!!!
Stiletto - Great job!!! 5 lbs already??? Wow!:carrot:
Okay - I have run out of time. Wishing everyone success today!

BoatingMommy you made me smile with your comment about DH turning the TV...lol...we're almost the same height, too. :cheer: My cousin lives outside of St Louis in MO, you guys are having some rough weather, we have the cold today in PA but thankfully didn't get more than a dusting of snow, which is gone now, the wind must have gotten it, it certainly didn't melt, at high noon it was zero degrees F.

Jacqui great job, you are killing it!! :hat:

I'm reading some articles on the McD's diet teacher, interesting reading, He limited himself to 2,000 calories a day, and tried to stick to the recommended dietary allowances for carbs, protein and fat.
Here's what an average day looked like: oatmeal, egg whites and 1% milk for breakfast, and a salad for lunch. At dinner, he let loose a bit, enjoying Big Macs, and Quarter Pounders. He indulged in dessert, too, enjoying sundaes and ice cream cones.
He exercised every day as well, walking 45 minutes a day.
By Day 90, Cisna said he was down 37 from LA Times article
I guess it's possible, I don't eat breakfast there very often, but didn't know they had egg whites or 1% milk. I used to get a hamburger happy meal with apple dippers and white milk sometimes for lunch, it was 10 pts on the old WW plan. Our McD's posts the calories on the menu board, that helps, I'll still limit it though :D

Well best to all :sunny:

Jacqui_D - I noticed that you have cheat days. What type of food does that normally consist of for you? You still seem to be losing very well! :)

Jacqui_D
01-07-2014, 03:29 PM
Watchoutforthatcar, this last cheat day was probably the healthiest I've had in the nearly 6 months I've been on this diet, lol! Here is what I ate (I know exact amounts because in the Slow Carb Diet thread I've been asked before about what I eat daily, so now I list my meals in that thread):

Breakfast: a boiled egg with one tbsp of hot pepper jelly, 2 pkgs of Quaker Instant Cinnamon and Spice Oatmeal (made with water instead of milk because I like it better that way) with an added tbsp of cinnamon, a handful of blueberries, and a large sliced banana, a teapot of green tea sweetened with Splenda, water with Mio strawberry-watermelon flavoring
Lunch: split pea and ham soup made with potatoes and carrots, Diet Dr. Pepper
Snacks: 2 sugar gum drops, 6 cream cheese icing-topped pumpkin cookies, 4 mint truffle chocolate kisses, a banana
Dinner: lasagna, a banana, a teapot of green tea with Splenda, Mio water

This past cheat day, I just really wanted the "healthier" foods I ate--oatmeal, fruit, pea soup, lasagna-- none of which are allowed on my diet during the week. But I truly eat whatever I want on cheat day. I've had carrot cake for breakfast and pecan pie for lunch before, lol! Every single cheat day, I think I've had some type of mint chocolate candy because I really love it. I also usually have cookies or cake. I have quite a sweet tooth. And I eat as much as I want. I don't count calories or watch portion sizes. I just stop eating when I'm full, which is what I do the rest of the week also. Although I could stuff myself on cheat day, I choose not to. So that's the gist of it! :D

OK, time to chime in again a bit about Cisna, the Science Biology teacher losing 37 lbs in 90 days. :)

I first bought the story, though to me it did not sound just right. I figured there was information missing, he had to of done more exercise.

After Dairus questioned it, then kelijpa also stated she found it improbable. I looked at it again, then googled it. I was surprised at the number of websites it was on, mostly news media. I looked again at his starting weight, 249, guessed his height to be around 6', age about 50 and did the calcs on his caloric needs for maintenance and for weight loss.

The figures showed it to be very close to possible, using Mayo Clinic's calorie calculator and Calorie Count's calculators. His amount for maintaining 249 lbs was around 3100 calories per day. He held the caloric intake to 2000 per day with his students selecting his meals and getting in his nutritional needs with that. Though the diet did include Big Mac's, shakes etc, those were the exception not the rule.

The media expounded on the shakes, fries and Big Mac portions making it seem different. Plus, they selected portions of his statements to support their slanted sides.

OK.... Get ready for the real big belly buster  :kickbutt:

Cisna, the teacher, actually said he lost
28 lbs

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/health/2014/01/06/09/43/man-loses-17-kilos-on-mcdonalds-only-diet

The first media, MSNBC 9 missed that or ??? and the other medias simply copied the MSN report without really listening to the video portion themselves it seems. At any rate, click this link to hear the teacher at 20-21 seconds very clearly state he lost 28 lbs.

That is much easier to achieve than the 37 lbs reported in the media. At any rate, his caloric needs to stay the same weight was 3100 per day, his intake 2000 per day, so the total shortfall for the three months. (they state 90 days, the standard 30 day per month, but it had to of been either 91 or 92 days) But I used 90 days for my calcs. the 1100 daily shortfall adds up to 9900 calorie deficit over 90 days. 9900 divided by 3500 calories per lb loss = 28.28 lbs total loss for 90 days.

As for WHAT he ate, his weight loss would be the same if he were to eat nothing except 2000 calories of shakes, fries and big macs per day for the 90 days or the same 2000 calories of salads per day for 90 lbs. ( I do not think it possible to eat 2000 calories in a day of salads though ) :hun:

So, the points he was trying to make remain the same. It is not where you eat or what you eat that counts for weight loss, but instead the number of calories taken in that determine the amount of weight loss/gain,-- not what it comes from. But also, his students were to pick out a balanced diet for him (even though it came from the McDonalds menu, and he ate a balanced diet (over all) for his health. We need to both eat less calories to lose weight and should eat the correct foods to get that balance of minerals and nutrients supplied by the food we eat. If one eats the wrong things they can still lose weight but also lose their health. :yikes:

Edited to add this: I myself almost never buy anything at McDonalds, I never did like their foods, especially Big Mac's. However I do on occasion, when running real late on my way to do a job when I have not had breakfast yet, stop at a McDonalds or jack in the box for an Egg McMuffin or the Jack in the box equivalent.

Thanks for the response Jacqui. I just wondered what other people considered as cheat days. I'm allowed a cheat day after I've phased out of what I'm doing right now. And as always I figure that I eat way horribly than other people. I'm trying to get in the mindset to eat what I want not just eat it because it's there or because it's cheat day. I have a long ways away anyhow.

I'm actually reading through your other thread now. Carrot cake for breakfast sounds amazing! lolol. Seems like you're doing everything right while modifying it to fit you. Way to go!

You did good BFR, thanks for the info, I saw they compared to Super Size Me and was surprised that was 10 years ago, it's like comparing apples and oranges though, McD's has healthier options and Spurlock was not trying to lose weight or to be healthy at all, at least that was my take on it after watching the movie.

Jacqui thanks for sharing your cheat day, sounds great. I'm much better on my cheat day than when I started

WorkingLikeADog you're doing great with the no p.m. snacking, that's a tough one to beat!

Had a good day today especially for being inside most of the day, dang cold.

watchoutforthatcar we posted at the same time, we (DH and I) use a cheat day, we have fun thinking about what our treat is going to be, Chinese, Mexican, Uno, 5Guys, etc, the combination of having success from your hard work and knowing you can have whatever you want on cheat day keeps us on plan the other days. Chocolate is always there for us on cheat day as well

There's a saying, I'm not sure who to attribute it to, "I can eat whatever I want, just not all of it at once"

Hi Gypsy! Good to have you! :goodluck:

Thanks Kelijpa! I was very excited about getting into a new decade today! :dancer: I didn't know you and your DH took a planned cheat day. Wonderful! Do you set aside days at intervals, like weekly or monthly, or do you just go with special days like holidays?

Thanks Boating! Hopefully as TOM subsides, the Whoosh Fairy will visit you too! :crossed: Oh, your poor hubby in this weather! :brr:

BFR, thanks for the added info on the McD's story! :burger:

Workinglikeadog, you are doing so well not snacking at night! Keep it up! :cp:

Sum38 I'm sorry you're going through this stall. You seem to be persistent though, so I'm sure you'll see a woosh soon!

kelijpa Yep, I read up on the McDonald's Diet, too. I totally think it's possible, I'd just find it so super inconveniet to drive to McDonald's everytime I want to eat. Also, I can't afford it. Thanks BFR for doing the math! I think it basically burns down to calories in vs. calories out.

Jacqui_D congrads on the new low! And of course I always have a great day when I know I get to study!! Woohoo yay Uni.

it's so hard to stay on plan right now....so hard. Sorry to all, I haven't been doing personals lately, I'll get there eventually. I am following you guys though and there's been some amazing progress, some fallbacks there but nothing that will last I'm sure.

I'm so stressed, it was so hard yesterday not to either get drunk or eat everything in sight. I still have moments today..... held out so far. I think this is the point where I keep asking myself if it's worth it right now or if stress eating is better right now because stress eats me. I hope I can find answers to my financial problems soon before I fall off, if it lasts too long it will be inevitable. I'm sure some of you emotional eaters know where I'm coming from. For now I took a long shower, had a good cry....we'll see, I'm hoping a job interview today will brighten the day/week/month.

on a good note, finally I am down...not without spending time at the gym and swimming but hey I love swimming anyway.

January 1 weight 229

Today's weight 229

Looks like no change eh?

oops, sorry 'bout laughing n yer face :o

But fact is, I decided to ignore the healthy tasty food I had stocked up on here and went into "cook my own stuff" mode. My own stuff is more in line with spicy Mexican foods. I am not Mexican, but would not mind a bit if I were. Sure would love to be able to have a natural tan without even working for it. Actually, I have never had a tan, my bodies idea of a tan is just different shades of red

Anyway, I was wanting some chili, or that is chili con carne. Which is a gringo dish but made very spicy like. And I am not talking about some of that "chili" which has ketchup and kidney beans and stuff like that in it. Nope. :nono: I got two lbs of carne picado (beef steak cut into very small pieces, about 1/4 the size of stew meat or less), and two lbs of adoboda (pork cut into very small thin pieces and marinated in different chili's) and two lbs of boneless chicken thigh/leg meat and cut that up the same. I browned them a little at a time, put them in a large skillet, added a healthy amount of cumin, coriander and some oregano, some water and brought that to a simmer. And I diced up a very large onion, put that in a skillet with a little oil and some chopped up fresh garlic, cooked it until slightly browned and added that to the pot of meats.

I took some (a little over a 1/4 cup each of chili New Mexico and chili Anaheim and some chili pasillo and :flame: chili de arbol, placed those in a skillet, turned the heat up high, opened the doors and windows and proceeded to heat the chili up to where it was smoking, stirring it to make sure it all got cooked. Really adds to the flavor :) --- and drives the bugs and mice outta da house............ :dizzy:

These were added to the skillet of carne (meat), water added, cooked for almost two hours, added the juice of two Mexican limes to that. MMMMMMMM Hated to, but I then added a gallon of pinto beans to make it chili beans, lowering the calorie content per cup. That was my only concession to diet. Then I added about 1/4 cup of cornmeal as a thickener and cooked another 30 minutes. Had a two bowls of this chili for my breakfast, which was about 1PM. My two girls had a bowl each and were begging for more. Dang hogs think they are dogs.

Later I had another bowl and a half for dinner. Than another bowl later with a salad for supper.

And the next morning I had a bowl for breakfast. My scales loved it also, they rewarded me with another 4 lbs :D

I finally got around to finding out how many calories were in each cup. I added up the calories of each ingredient then totaled that. Took the gallon and a half of chili it made and divided that up into cups worth..... a staggering 487 calories per cup :nono: But in my own defense........... I gotta tell ya....... It tasted GREAT :cp:

From my beginning weight in Jan of 229, I went up to 237........... and back down to

229

Right back to where I started, and I gotta tell ya I have no regrets :D That was my cheat half a week

I really hated to, but I packaged that chili up and placed it in the freezer and went back to weight loss mode.

All yall looking real good, love this group, you are very inspirational.

Sorry, but I felt like having a bit of fun with this post.

Love ya all

B F R

PS I still have nearly a gallon of that chili left, and I ain't throwing it out either  Love chili when weather is cold. Mentioning cold, hope all of you are doing OK in that artic vortex. I kinda feel bad about the fairly warm weather we are having here, around 72 degrees mid-day, does not seem fair.

So we had a pizza party last night to celebrate the -9.7 degree weather.... I seem to be having a terrible time staying on plan after the holidays... I think I'm going to search for motivational sayings and put them all over the house. Gotta do something.

Holy moley, Big Fat Rooster, that chili sounds amazing! Thank goodness I can't cook that well (or that long) or I would have an even bigger struggle on my hands.

That might be one meal where I would say, "worth it!"

I am going to really have to be on point the rest of the month to reach 202. A week into this and I am 1 pound more than when I started. Not where I wanted to be but I am not giving up.

Glad not to have got stuck at 142, my nemesis weight! Want to write more but can't keep my eyes open, have to start posting before bedtime I think.

My other half flew to Chicago this morning so is joining the big freeze. In the UK right now we're having the big flood, which is not quite as exciting! A week eating for one will probably help kick start my January diet tho :-) every cloud...

Jacqui maybe that's part of why my weight bounces around like a Ping pong ball in a windstorm sometimes, but ends up lower overall...my cheat days were leaking into cheat weekends, I was just reading an article on weight loss that said cheat has a negative connotation (I don't buy that) and you should call it treat or reward, so if you start to feel bad about your cheat day (which I doubt you will since it works so great for you) you just change the name

BFR wow, that chili sounds absolutely marvelous, I would have eaten it every meal, too, that's great you were able to freeze some for the future.

Turtle I'm always looking for motivational and inspirational quotes, they really help me.

Susan glad you're feeling better!

TrayTeam and Woodstock and imabehot and Minneeycongrats on dropping :)

Thanks everyone for posting, this is a great thread!!

Good morning guys :)

biggest loser (the TV show) started in Germany last night - 3 hours long! It's smaller than the US version and expectations are a little more realistic. At the same time, I'm not sure where they find the candidates; none of them is 'normal' in a sense - average me can identify with none of them, which is a little sad.
Anyways, I still keep watching ;)

BFR your Chili sounds delicious! And that' coming from a vegetarian of 9 years. So I guess, it's not because I actually want to eat it but because you talk about it so passionately :p

Have a great day!! :belly:

It's morning in the midwest and we have another inch of snow on the ground...just when I got the other 2 foot of drifts off the patio. Ugh! So hating winter! I'm down a pound from yesterday. Did my Turbo Jam workout and stayed within daily WW pts. I've got today planned and feeling good!
Vixen - I didn't see that anyone answered your question. What I did when I was posting daily weight was go back to my most recent post, highlight and copy and then paste onto the new post. I have been lazy and just posted the start, current and goal, but I think I like the daily post to see the change more clearly.
Okay you big bunch of losers...and I mean that in a most positive sense...have a great day/evening!

Funny thing to report from last night:
I save my whole snacking budget for late at night so I can stay on plan. Last night I ran out of time so I couldn't get all my walnuts eaten before bed (I buy nuts-in-the-shell and crack them one at a time to slow myself down). But I know that under-eating calories on an UpDay slows down weight loss. So yes, I knew I had to eat MORE calories, and fast. So I ate two additional low-carb (not low-calorie) cookies. It felt so decadent! I love JUDDD. On how many diets are you concerned that you aren't eating enough calories, and as a result have to force down more cookies? lol

No weigh in today. Made my 10000 steps yesterday, walked 2.65 miles with 22 pounds of weights, 37 "very active minutes" according to my Fitbit. Which, by the way, I LOVE. So glad I got it.

Hmm - some odd (but good) readings, the scale says down 2.5 lbs today -- not that i didn't work out hard and stay on plan all week, but these are very generous numbers. Hopefully it is correct. I have noticed that the weight that comes on fast can go away a little faster as well (i.e. my month of Christmas and Birthday celebrations that didn't seem to end!)

Turtle, here are a few quotes you can post around your house: :write:

"You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there." -- Unknown Author

"The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win." -- Roger Bannister

"The secret to change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new." -- Socrates

"Be the heroine of your life, not the victim." -- Nora Ephron

"If you're tired of starting over, stop quitting." -- Unknown Author

"A year from now, what will I wish I had done today?" -- Unknown Author

"There are only two choices: Make progress or make excuses." -- Unknown Author

"Accept what you can't change. Change what you can't accept." -- Unknown Author

"What you eat in private, you wear in public." -- Unknown Author

and my personal favorite...

"My grandmother started walking 5 miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 now, and we don't know where the h*** she is." -- Ellen Degeneres :D

TrayTeam, you are welcome! Keep going! You're looking good! :cp:

Sum, yay on dropping back into the 140's! :carrot:

Imabehot, weight fluctuates daily. Don't let it throw you off. You're doing great!

Susan, congrats on the big drop! :woohoo: I'm glad you're feeling better!

Woodstock, now you have that scale moving! Great job! Keep it up! (Or rather down, lol!) :goodscale:

Minneey, woohoo on passing 142! Keep going! :dancer:

Kelijpa, oh, I don't get hung up on words. I'm perfectly happy to call it a diet and a cheat day. I know what I mean! I'm so glad a cheat day is working for you! Just stay away from those cheat weekends, lol!

Ajlee, was that a planned cheat meal or an unplanned cheat meal? I'm all for a planned cheat meal or day but only once a week. It's those unplanned cheats that will keep you going around in circles! Good job working out! :exercise:

183, I used to love to watch The Biggest Loser, but I guess hearing a mixture of the unrealistic (staged for tv) aspects of it and the unhealthier (final contestants starving themselves to win) aspects of it burst my bubble. Their hopeful success stories just didn't seem so hopeful or successful anymore. I will give the show credit for getting more people off the couch and interested in losing weight though! That's always a good thing!

Boating, congrats on the lb down! :cb: We must have the same weather! :snowglo:

Shr1nk1ngme, that's a pretty good ending to that story!

NightAngel, yay on being 2 lbs down!
