Chicks up for a Challenge - Make 2014 Your Goal Year! Challenge 1/6: New Years Day to Valentine's Day

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and there wasn’t too much damage done over the holidays. I wanted December to be my restart month – but that didn’t go to plan. So now, in January I’m going into this hardcore. I want to reach my goals by the end of year (or before and be maintaining by the end of 2014) :carrot:

I’m wondering will anyone like to join me in a yearly challenge? Now, don't panic at the thoughts of going into this from January 1st to December 31st! For me, it would be near impossible to stay focused for a full year so I’ve decided to split the year into 6 challenges or 6 mini targets to reach. Each challenge represents a time during the year. We have Valentine’s Day, Easter, summer, the end of summer, Halloween and finally, New Years Eve. See the dates below:

Challenge 1: New Years Day to Valentine’s Day (January 1st to February 14th)
Challenge 2: Valentine’s Day until Easter Sunday (February 14th to April 20th)
Challenge 3: Easter to summer (April 20th to June 21st) (AKA "Operation Bikini Body")
Challenge 4: Summer to end of summer (June 21st to September 21st)
Challenge 5: End of summer until Halloween (September 21st to October 31st)
Challenge 6: Halloween to New Years Eve (October 31st to December 31st)


Weigh in days for Challenge 1 will be on Fridays. This is to coincide with Valentines' Day being on a Friday this year. However, I know that people have their own weigh in days so you can weigh in on or before the Friday. ;)

What I was going to do was post a new thread for each challenge. This means this thread will not get super duper long by end of the year. Also, anyone can jump in at any point in the year! :cool:

I love this idea of a yearly challenge! Thank you for starting it!! I, like the majority of others over did things during the holidays and desperately need to get back on track. I am getting married in May and want to look my very best!

I'm in! What a fantastic idea! My goal is an overall goal to reach goal by the end of the year. I don't know if I can but that will be just over 100lbs. so, what does that mean? I won't use this for a specific split up goal, but will use it has a place to keep me on track. Thank you for the wonderful idea!

I am in also.

My first goal will only be 12 lbs for the 45 day first challenge. That will bring me down to 217 lbs, and I will have achieved half my total goal of 99 lbs off of the starting 273 lbs. Actually, it will be 62 lbs off, 10 lbs more than half.

My second goal will be 16 lbs off for the next 64 day portion, and the final will be 16 lbs which will put me at 175 lbs, 5 lbs past my goal weight of 180. So if I get even close to 180 I will be pleased.

I know I am running with winners in this and hope to not let myself or you down.

I'm fairly fit and active but love wine and good food! Turning 50 this summer and planning a trip to Europe. I want to turn 50 feeling happy with my body, not like the best of me was in the past. I tried to avoid getting too much food and loaded my plate with the green beans. Then... someone pulled out chocolate. I'm still under the calories... but barely.

I'm excited to get started! I'm looking forward to a surprise getaway planned for my fiance for Valentine's Day, as well as our wedding in six months so I'm really motivated to make this work. I've decided to do the IF (intermittent fasting) plan... I did it five years ago and lost about 25 pounds, but gained it all back after experiencing some life setbacks that had me dealing with some major depression. Things are much better now and my goal is to look as good as I feel!

Good morning and congrats to everyone for getting off to a great start. Yesterday was good for me too. I did a 45 minute very hilly walk at Stone Mountain park and my eating was good.

Oh dear...Chocolate is always my downfall! I managed to walk by it in the shop today though! Always thing tomorrow will be better :)


Just finished my first gym workout of the year! I did 60 minutes on the treadmill. I'm surprised I actually did it, I wanted to press the stop button so many times. So far, so good! :D

Yes! I hope all those on the East coast are staying warming. I've been hearing about the conditions on the news. I live in Europe, we are having stormy conditions but nothing as bad as what those in the US are experiences. Very very cold temperatures! :(

Hope everyone is doing well! Today is the 2nd day back to work and I didn't go to the gym again. I'm struggling a little to getting back into my sleeping routine. I've only been getting asleep at 1/2am and I'm up at 6am. I'm DETERMINED to get to the gym tomorrow evening. :carrot:

Today is supposed to get into the 40's. Woohoo! Ready for some warmer weather. I miss the Fall weather. It never stays long enough.

Dreamer I would not be able to go to the gym if I only had 4 hours sleep. lol It would be an accident waiting to happen. I know you will be back in routine in not time though. :)

I was a little slow updating my weight from the third. Tomorrow I will weigh in. Slow progress for me. Ugg. I've had a hard time getting into the exercise calorie control mood. I guess I'm just not out of holiday mode. This morning hitting the gym. I have been avoiding it since the start of the year, since it's so busy. But it's time to get back on the wagon.

I'm getting married in 4 months and I refuse to even try on a dress until Im in the 150's. I really would like to be a trim bride. We are getting married in the bahamas and I'd really like to wear a bikini and not a body suit with my new husband on the beach.

I weighed in today at 260! 3.8 lbs down from last week! Of course that's a little fast for me, my goal is only 1.5 lbs a week. But I'll take it. I was sick last week so I bet that might have something to do with it.

So the weight loss is feeling a little glacial right now:p but I can still cut some things out. I've been good about using my loseit app and tracking. I'm also staying with my exercise plan. The older I get, the longer it takes to lose. Grrr....

Link to the new spreadsheet above! I thought you guys would like the idea so I went ahead earlier and started putting it together. And to save you all the trouble, Iíve gone back to the start and entered in peopleís weigh inís! The usernames are in alphabetically order. (If I did happen to miss your name, just pop it in at the end and I will come back in and update the list). You can double check I entered in the correct numbers, wouldnít want people gaining when they didnít! :dizzy:

Since itís only started now, Iíll continue to add it to each weekly weigh in reminder so everyone will become aware that it is there.

I will also use this same spreadsheet for the rest of the challenges. We will be able to keep track of our weigh inís all year that way. I will allow access to Challenge 2 closer to the starting date.

It is very basic for now but Iíll add in extra columns for goals and such for Challenge 2.

Not too familiar with Google docs but I hope it works and you guys can edit it! I think I switched it to the right settings, let me know if I didnít.

It was also great to see a lot of people joined up, I didnít realise we had so many! :)



shanhat81, all you have to do will be enter in your weigh from next Friday (or your weigh in day). ;) No worries! I used spreadsheets so much during my 4 years in college and I use it everyday in work, and I'm still not 100% on it. On Challenge 2, I'll have formulas, but you won't have to do anything with them, I'll be updating them. ;)

I'd like to jump in. With 3 weeks left before Feb 14th I like to lose at least 5lbs. that may be a little ambitious but I seem to drop weight fairly quickly when it's water related. I know my gain is mostly water so if I'm luckily I'll drop 7 lbs.

Everyone is doing AMAZING guys! We should be all proud of ourselves.

I had a gain of 1.2lbs this week but I knew it was coming. Had a few too many treats! Time to get back on track. ;) Now I've to motivate myself to go out in the cold, wind and rain to the gym. I can do this! From tomorrow I'll have two friends with me so that will be motivation to go and to go during the week.

Since we are getting to the end of part 1 of the challenge has anyone started to notice NSV?

I just realized last night when I flex my arms I can start to see some definition. I have never seen definition in my arms before ever! Made me want to go and lift more weights.

I also fit into a pair of pants I bought online a year ago and couldn't get over my thighs before. Now they button up and even have a little space around the waist.

What are everyone else's NSV?

There really is nothing better than fitting into older clothes again, right?! :carrot: Congratulations :)

I've only lost a few lbs but I can see my tummy slowly getting a little bit flatter. As well as that, I can feel myself getting fitter too because of being back to the gym.




On a side note, I'll post up a thread for Challenge 2 this weekend and open up the spreadsheet for it so you guys can all start thinking about what's ahead and if you'd like to make goals. :)

Rated At the beginning of this challenge all my 10's fit me nicely. Now yesterday I wore these 10 pants that were clearly too big on me :yay: I love the pants; I am thinking about having them taken in.

Right now I am fitting into all of my 8's; it is a good feeling. Bummer part of this weight loss is...I have to leave all my pretty clothes behind. Some of the dresses I am going to have someone alter for me. I just don't know how many sizes they can alter. Anyone?

Clothes are starting to be looser, I notice a difference side on. Hubby noticed a change before I did ( weigh less than him!), so did a friend who I first met at my heaviest in Nov. I notice definition in my arms so that definitely keeps me strength training!

Looking at the spreadsheet, everyones progress has been brilliant! I always find people start weight loss at the start of a new year and some of them struggle (like me :p) but we are all doing so well!

Thanks for putting the challenge on Dreamer!! Its so fun to see everyone's progress.

Finally got a whoosh for the last week! I lost almost 5 lbs, not goal, but not bad. Can't wait to see where I'll be at the end of the next one :)

What a frustrating Month. Overall I ended up losing 8.4 lbs in this six weeks but it really plateaued. I have had such a hard time leaving 258 behind. Just when I think I have made progress, The next day I am right back up there.

Lost 9 lbs. on this challenge. It came off slowly and I was often frustrated but I didn't gain this weight over night (although it seemed like it!) I'm really excited for the next challenge because we're at the beach Easter week and I might even try a bathing suit. I'm also turning 50 this summer and want to feel good about my age

EVERYONE did really well I think.

My original goal was 152.6 (4.4 lbs) because I have been on this journey for over a year and things have not been moving along too speedily anymore. I was so pleased I changed my goal in my mind to lose a full 7lbs, which I did not make. I did lose 6.4 lbs and it was more than I thought I would do, so I will be glad.
