WOW! No wonder there is an obesity epidemic in this country. I recognize a lot of things that I would have ordered or purchased back when I thought that eating like this was ok.

That list is a little ridiculous - I've enjoyed several items from there and they can absolutely be had in the context of a weight controlled, healthy lifestyle. In fact, so e of those are my ideal choice at their restaurant, because getting them without a bun and fries still makes for an excellent meal in quantity and flavor. Some of those items are great low carb choices, and the morons who made that list missed that no food is verboten if the eater has planned for it (modified the item to fit their plan, fasted and is eating it as their main meal of the day, etc).

Poor, biased list. But then again almost everything is offensive when it comes to diet and nutrition, given the disparity between how two different people lose and manage their weight loss.

But as for me, I will enjoy my triple bacon burger or Parmesan crusted sole without an iota of guilt or loosening my belt :D

If you're getting the burger without the bun and fries, I would argue that you're eating a different meal entirely, not one on the list. I think the article makes a good point that these meals come with WAY more calories than should be eaten in a meal. If you recognize that and opt to make modifications... well, I think that's actually the point.

My two cents.

I am only familiar with a few of these chains, but have never tried any of the food listed....only because I prefer non-chain restaurants. The only chain I occasionally go to is the Longhorn or Outback for a basic steak, potato, and salad. That being said, I am sure some of my local haunts serve items as bad or worse. One of the things I am trying to do is eat at home for most meals.

No, not those. You don't eat those every day.

Chips, candy, soft drinks and fruit juices cause the problems. You can eat those every day. I did.

As an outsider looking in, I agree. The food is different over there, but the one thing that really stood out for me was the massive consumption of soft drinks. It's so easy to overdo sugar. You honestly can't overdo fat alone. You'd feel sick.

Sure, the portions are massive as well, but I think it's also more common there to take the rest of it with you in a doggie bag. Over here, you only really take the rest of the pizza with you if you can't finish it, so it was a surprise for me that over there it was OK to ask for a doggie bag regardless of the meal.

Having gallstones, most of the foods on this list would kill me. I don't eat this stuff anymore. The calories and fat content are outrages. I may have a can of peaches once in a while , but opt for fresh fruit and veggies most of the time.

I ate that Quizno's Tuna Melt once, a really long time ago, and it was actually really gross. I've also eaten the Pop Secret's Kettle Corn before. I had no idea is was that unhealthy.

I find some of them shocking- like the fajitas and taco salad. What do they put in those to make the calories that ridiculous? Also the Oscar Mayer Crackers Combo is surprising. Where is all of that sugar from (I'm guessing a lot of it is from the kool-aid packet)?

The crazy thing is, a lot of these foods can be made at home to taste better and to be 10x times healthier.

I don't think I've ever eaten any of those on the list although I probably have had a few bites of canned peaches....but I don't like canned peaches...every one of the restaurants on the list, I have never eaten at and most don't exist in Alaska anyhow

P.F. Chang’s Combo Lo Mein looks straight up delicious. Too bad I can only eat, like, 1/4 of it to be a modest-sized diet meal.

Some of the meals listed are so huge, I wonder how many people, even those with huge appetites actually finish them.

Even when my appetite was at it's largest, I would get two meals out of an average restaurant portion of ribs or chinese food.

Now I get 3-5 meals from the same portions.

Some people probably do eat the whole portion, but I suspect that most people do not.

I'm pretty darned fat, with a pretty big appetite and even at my highest weight and largest appetite most of the foods as listed would have been too much food for me to eat without sharing and/or taking home a leftover container.

Oh I could finish them. I think it is because I went to buffets probably 1-2 times a month. Or at best once every 2-3 months.

Cheesecake Factory usually makes the worse of list. It seems like they have a dozen or so entrees around 2,000 calories.

In my heyday I could have finished them too.

Over Thanksgiving I visited my sister and her boyfriend in Jersey, and while we were there we went to Outback. The boyfriend ordered a porterhouse with a giant sweet potato, and ate the whole thing... after having a fairly large portion of the fried blooming onion appetizer and some bread with butter. Also, two pints of beer.

Even if someone eats 1/2 (which many do), that could still be well over 1,500 calories for the meal when everything (appetizer, bread, drinks, etc.) are added up.

We don't have all of those chains up here, but quesadillas are one of my favourites, and I'm sure I've had the equivalent cheesecake and the rib dinner on occasion. I go to Quiznos too, but I aways have the small sub..filling varies.
