GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!
Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our
MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there's 2 of them to read today:
Do your best, and then make it better. Whether you're ahead or whether you're behind, it's an opportunity for you to improve. The mistakes of yesterday offer priceless lessons for today. The victories of today provide the resources to reach even higher tomorrow. When you can improve upon what is, there's no need to worry about what has been. And you can always improve upon what is.
There is always room for improvement, and truly what a blessing that is. For it creates real and substantial opportunity in each and every moment. Improve upon the victories, and improve upon the disappointments. Each situation, in its own way, can spur you to further improve.
Every day, no matter what else it brings, also brings the opportunity to improve. Take those opportunities often, and be amazed at how far you can go.

WIND AGAINST YOUR FACE
The faster you move forward, the more the wind blows against your face. When you encounter much difficulty and resistance, it is because you're in the process of making significant progress. Those who have no problems are those who never venture out to accomplish anything. Those who face the most challenges are those who end up creating the most value.
When a particular problem arises, it is because you have progressed to the point where you can deal with it. When a challenge comes along, that's because you are truly ready for where it can bring you.
See the obstacles as gateways and you'll see their true value. Each new challenge is a stepping stone, a waypoint on the journey to real and meaningful accomplishment.
Feel the stiff wind as it blows against your face. And know that what you're feeling is your rapid movement forward.

THIS WEEKS WEEKLY CHALLENGES:
We continue with our on-going challenges of DRINKING AT LEAST 64oz OF WATER A DAY, as well as trying to get in at least 3 DAYS OF EXERCISE
Due to the slow week on the board last week, with the holiday and all, I'm still looking for those ON THE RUN FOOD IDEAS from everyone! Since it's summer time, I think it's really important now, with many going on vacation, myself included, to try and make a list of car-friendly foods that we can keep on hand in the car. So, once again, I'm repeating last weeks challenge. Next time you go to the store, try to see what foods are available that would be easily stored in your car, not requireing any special storing, that you could easily eat that helps you stay OP when you can't get to anything other than junk - as I mentioned last week, things like pop-top cans of tuna, keep packets of mayo, mustard and ketchup in your car, pop-top cans of sf, waterpacked fruit, LAUGHING COW RF CHEESE WEDGES, WW CRACKERS, etc. I think we can all benefit from the ideas!!!!

Good Monday Morning:wave:
Icky morning here. Woke up thinking I was hearing the shower going but it was rain. Not unusual here in Miami smack dab in the summer time. Actually, I like the rain and overcast skies because it makes it less hot here. The other day it was sunny, 95 degrees and sweltering heat and I hate it!
BEACH, I totally agree about trying to teach the kids about the rules of the road being harder to teach them than the actual driving. The driving a car comes with practice but the rules of the road, that's a whole other story! There's so many things that can go wrong. I try to point them out to them when I drive but I think I may scare them cause it doesn't matter where we are, or the situation, there's always SOMETHING to say:shrug: Miami has the WORST drivers, I'm sure! People come here from other countries and take the driving test but have their own set of rules. I told them they'd both know the parking lot at the college like the back of their hands before I even think about letting them out on a real road, which will definitely be in an abandoned area far out in farm country somewhere. I'm not thrilled about either of them driving and I'm going to make sure that they learn as much as they can before they can get their actual license in a year. MICHAEL won't get his until right before he goes to college, where he won't need or have a car and the only reason he'd have to drive is if he was the designated driver and using someone else's car. I doubt even that would happen, but if needed, at least he'd know how to drive - driving in an area he's never driven before, they'd be lucky if they didn't end up in another state with his sense of direction!!! Glad to hear you had a OP weekend, me too:) A few weeks ago I recommended a book that I think you'd like. Try to find it at the library, it's called THIN TASTES BETTER.
FILLISE, you sure do know how to write! Great article. I hope you get a lot of positive responses from it. Getting packed????
Well, I'm going to go get LAUREN up so she can go to camp. Busy week for her as they have performances for summer camps as well as her FRIDAY NIGHT performance where family and friends get to see her. For those of you who have NO clue what I'm talking about, she's in CHICAGO playing the part of
MA MA:)
Will check in later today!
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK!!!!

Morning all!
Ah-it's easy to reply when you are the first one on the board after Deb on Monday! :)
I'm trying to get a lot of work done today so I can begin packing for Wednesday. I'd like to leave as soon as it gets light on Wed so that we can get a good bit of the trip under our belts while the temperature is relatively cool.
Deb--Good luck with the kids, the cars, and your nerves!!! Some of the food I like to munch on when on the go:
Carbolite bars--this is the one time I'll eat meal replacement bars--but you have to be careful, so many are actually loaded with sugar.
Celery stickes with dressing (ranch or blue cheese) good to keeping in a cooler on the seat next to you.
Nuts
Grapes
Cheese--some of the pre-sliced cheeses are especially good for for this.
When on a long trip my main concern is that the food be SB legal--there are so many temptations on the road and it is so easy to give into boredom, that I feel like I've done well if everything I eat is SB legal even if it is more than I normally would have!
That's it for me this morning. I hope everyone has a great day and that this is the start of a great SB week for everyone!

Well, a new week is here! I had a bit of a rough day yesterday. I had some kind of bladder/urinary problem that manifested itself with pain. I drank a bunch of unsweetened cranberry juice and water and took some tylenol, and today I seem to be back to normal. Don't know what brought that on. Perhaps not drinking enough water with the increased protein. I don't know. All I know is that it felt just like bad TOM cramps, but since I'm past that I knew it was something else. Am not walking today, but hope to get back out there tomorrow.
I can't remember who it was who was inquiring about making smoothies in the blender vs. the food processor. I did a little experimenting and found that the blender does equally as well for me as the food processor. In fact, maybe a little better. Perhaps whoever it was needed to add a little more liquid to the smoothie to get those ice chunks to grind up. Here's my :recipe":
1 cup water
1 T unsweetened cranberry juice concentrate
1/2 t stevia powder (I use Stevia Plus)
1 scoop of protein powder (I use Whey To Go)
1 Cup crushed ice (it definitely should be crushed, rather than cubes)
4 - 6 frozen strawberries, depending on size.
I put all this in the blender and pulse for a few seconds and then blend on high until smooth. This is less foamy than in the food processor. The FP smoothy is amost all very thick foam, which is fairly filling with all that air. :)
My little gold-wing swallowtail caterpillars are eating like crazy and are now fat little sausages. I may have to buy another vine just to keep them fed. I hope they will go into chrysalis stage SOON! I had 3 on the vine outside, but the wasps ate all of them. :( I am planning on building a screen box today in which to raise all those "cute" caterpillars.
Have a great day, all my SB friends.

Oh Lordy, it's been almsot 2 weeks since I've been on here, and they haven't been easy ones. The computer crashed, which was the first reason. It's been up since last Tues but I haven't hasd a second, with the holiday and all. I made it trough Hannah's bridal shower and bachelorette party without killing her, which is certainly an achievement. It was interesting to watch her and the 'bimbo bridesmaids' do their partying. She was so smashed by the time the limo dropped us off! She had 3 Long Island Teas, a few margaritas and 21 SHOTS!!!!!!! The proof was all over my bathroom by the next morning. I did have 2 drinks, and they weren't SB friendly. Oh well.
Selah had her 6 mo appointment this week. She is 26 1/4 inches long and weighs 14lb 13oz. She has a really bad spot on the back of her head. I have been putting her Exema cream on it, but it hasn't helped and keeps getting worse. I had the Dr look at it but he never said anything. It looks really bad now, so I think I need to take her back in.
I have been doing pretty well. Eating has been good, although not 100%. I'm doing well at sticking to 1 or 2 starches a day. It's difficult! I found a recipie for Wheat Germ Brownies that is AWESOME. I'm going to post it later.
On Wed I weighed in at 176. I have 3 weeks to Hannah's wedding, so I'm trying to really go hard core and lose 6 more. I've been floating between 180 and 176 for way too long now.
Selah is up, so I'd better get going for a wlak or I will never do it.
I'm going to backtrack and read how you have all been. I'll post some personal notes later.
I live in the car, and I hate it. But I do keep snacks because my bloodsugar is so out of control If I don't eat snacks. Here's my list:
Car Snacks
I have a little basket in the back seat with snacks
Snyders Oat Bran Pretzels*
Rye Crisps -seasoned*
Dried Fruit*
Mixed nuts*
Beef Jerkey
Juice boxes
Bottled water
I keep it in the back seat so that I can't get to it unless I really want to. I had it in the passenger seat at first, but I did way too much snacking.
I keep the following in the fridge so that I can grab it when I am running out the door
a bowl with 6 boiled eggs
String cheese
Summer sausage
Carrots
Celery
Cauliflour & brocolli
Cream cheese
Ranch and Blue Cheese Dressings
*I divide everything up into those little ziplock snack size bags
I found these itty bitty 3 oz containers at the dollar store, and I keep a couple in the fridge with the dressings in them.
Gotta go. I missed you guys soooooo much!!!!!!!

Good morning, all! Thanks for the wonderful welcome - I'm excited about my first week on SB. I know I'll learn much from you all. I'm at work so don't know how much I'll be able to check in, but will do my best. BTW, Seguin is just east of San Antonio on IH-10. Funny note - my husband's family has been in business since 1962 making CANDY!!! Some day I'll be working with him full time and can't wait for that, but definitely have to get the sugar thing under control first!
Hope you all have a wonderful day - it's so nice to meet you all.

Hi Ho! Back from the brink of eating chaos. I definitely diverged from my diet this Holiday Weekend but I'm back on track and I've got goals to work toward. I'm up 1/2 lb from last WIW but considering all I ate (ahem, and drank) I consider 1/2 lb to be a blessing.
I have to say that a few times this weekend I actually felt like I had a "carbohydrate hangover" after eating things like Chips and dip (tortilla, potato - you name it.) I also ate a half a box of Milk Duds while watching a movie with the family and I could tell that while they were good going down, they didn't make me feel very good overall. Interesting, eh? I tried to be good when I could - but we spent so much time at other people's homes and they didn't have things like whole wheat buns - and they kept tempting me with those chips! Oh, and the beer... I drank way too many!
Alas, I'm back to this WOE. I need to get back on track with my water consumption, too. Hope everyone had a good weekend and I hope the scales are kind to you this Monday!
Joanne - welcome! As a Candy addict, myself, I must say there were manyt times I dreamed about owning a candy store/factory/company - whatever. I love watching "Unwrapped" on the food channel! Keep the faith and the more you learn about this way of eating (woe) the more healthy you will feel!

Good Monday Morning.
Hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th and weekend.
After being away for 4 days it is great to be back. Our limo ride for the 21st birthday party was fun. We went to 4 different bars. My DD had to get a fake ID and only needed it at one place and got in. She was so proud. Now I'm afraid she has the bar bug. Makes a mother proud. :(
It was not a good weekend eating wise, but back on track today. I really hate saying that every monday. Really need to work on those weekends. It is just too much going on in the summer.
We did go to the HFS while I was off. I got some pita chips made with ww flour. I got garlic flavored and boy were they strong. They were great dipped in salsa. A good substitute for tortilla chips. We got crackers and tortillas and pot pies.
If anyone saw the post from Fillisie about the cobbler recipe. I strongly suggest you try it. I made it with peaches and it was wonderful. DH ate almost all of it. Wonderful!
Deb, good talking to you yesterday. Glad we finally got hooked up. Tell Lauren to "break a leg" I'm sure she will be the star.
Susan, Have fun on your trip. Hope you will be able to check in while you are gone. BTW, I made your cobbler recipe. I used peaches. Wonderful! DH ate almost all of it. I high recommend it.
Gator, thanks for the smoothie recipe. I always use oj, but will try the cranberry juice for something different. I don't use protein powders though. Hope your UTI is better. those things can really hurt.
Talitha, I was right there with you on the party thing. My DD lost her lunch seeral times Friday after her friends 21st birthday party. It was fun though. I have to admit I had my share too. I'm sure you will be at your goal before the wedding. Good idea on those snacks in the back seat. Glad you are back with us.
Door, Welcome, I guess you joined us while I was away last weekend. Good to have you with us. It would have to be tough working in a candy store and not eating it. Unless it's one of those things where you see so much of it, you don't want it. Candy is not my downfall, luckily. I have enough other ones. Welcome.
Lawyer, it is so hard going to other people's houses. Even though my friends try to have things for me to eat, they buy the ww buns that they sell in the store and I hate to tell them they are really not ww. Sometimes I just eat them and just count them as my starchy carb and go on. But those chips are really hard to resist. I did find some pita chips at the HFS this weekend that are a good substitute for tortilla chops. Theya re great in salsa.
Board seems a little slow today. Have a great day.

HI ALL!! Yes I know, I'm a BAD girl!!
My stinking computer is messed up and when I try and read the posts here, they just kind of get stuck and jerk across the page up and down a little at a time... I can't deal with it. But I decided to at least pop in at the beginning of the week and say hi !!:D
After getting back OP, I (of course) went right back OFF plan and gained all the way back up to TWO HUNDRED!!!!!! OMG... I thought I was gonna choke! So... back OP now for 5 days and down to 193. That means I'm still 20 pounds from my all time SB low of 174. I have GOT to get my butt under control!
Joanne - I feel your pain, my husband and I own a COOKIE business! He used to work for the local dairy, which kept us in ice cream and chocolate milk, but now it's been cookies for the last 6 years!!! They do have sugar free cookies, but they're not SB legal cause of all the enriched flour :(
Hope everyone is doing well... we're off to Nashville to the inlaws to swim and hang out... Maybe I'll get this computer fixed soon, I can't stand the page not scrolling smoothly!
Bye!!!

I'm still out here, more or less OP (with occaissional big lapses, like this weekend). I pop into the board and read alot, but I can't even remember the last time I posted. I still live at the gym when I'm not working :dizzy: So my weight is STUCK, but boy do I have muscles!
I've found I do really well when I travel- it's being at home that's sometimes a problem. I always travel with a big cooler, and pre-cook tons of chicken breasts, protein pancakes (oatmeal and eggwhites blendered up, then cooked like a pancake), bags of raw vegies, apples, etc.
Glad to see all the old faces and the new ones,

Jack K--Thanks for the good wishes. I actually broke down and went to the doctor and they found a UTI for which I needed antibiotics. I HATE going to the doctor, but am glad I did this time, at the insistance of my DS. Three days of Cipro should get me back on track.
I'll look for the cobbler recipe. Wasn't it on last week's board?

I am not eating well at all. And the scales are reflecting it. Kinda irratates me that I keep doing this to myself. I got to 149 twice so far and back up to 154....ugh.....it's like I want to screw this up...and I DON"T trust me. Stress eating I know...but stopping it is another story. Any way.........mostly OP today...had a couple too many chips. Gotta get them things away from me.
I need to go feed the kids lunch.
Welcome Joanne!
Good to see you Beth and Meliris.

Hey All:wave:
Went to my yoga class this morning and got home, had some lunch and have THE HOUSE ALL TO MYSELF, well, at least for the time being. What better way to use it but doing a post:)
QUESTION...has anyone come across info on, when cooking bacon, not frying it as many do, but on a grill where the fat/grease drips away, just how many grams of fat and/or calories would you be saving by doing this? I eat the SF GWALTNEYS BACON and make it in my jet stream oven (which I'd die if I didn't have) and all the fat goes to the bottom (it's a lot!) and then whatever is still on the crispy fried bacon I sop up with paper towels. I know I have to be saving grams of something by doing this, but haven't been able to find the info on the web easily. Anyone have any ideas?
'NOTHER QUESTION for those of you who did Atkins. DM is thinking about doing Atkins, my Aunt is on it, last I heard (for the umpteenth time, I think) and so DM is thinking about it. So, I know the concept of course BUT not a lot as far as particular foods, induction, etc. so I found a Atkins board on one of the sites I just happened to come across and asked a few questions but really didn't get what I consider to be good solid answers, so I figured, with so many people who've done A on our board, maybe you guys can shed a little light on some of the questions not only my DM has, but I have in hopes of helping her if she so does decide to do it. You may ask, why doesn't she do SB,she's done it, time and time again. DM has trouble sticking with anything, so I figured, if she can get in any time on Atkins, it probably won't be long, just hoping that whatever time she does it, if she does, she'll lose some weight and hopefully, the day she goes off, won't gain it back, and then some.
Anyhow, like bacon, I eat the GWALTNEY'S and I think that would be fine for her, but how many slices would a person eat on Atkins, vs a regular serving size. The other board says you can't have ketchup, even if it has no carbs or sugars-does that seem right? Soy milk, if she can't have reg. skim, doesn't want to use cream, why could she not use soy that has only .5 grams of net carbs per cup and maybe only use a couple tablespoons? I got the last 2 of his books at the library so I could skim through them but like the SB BOOK they are a bit confusing AND contradictory. They say you only have to count carbs, but yet, a part of the book still says calories count, which I know on any WOE it does, but they don't give you much guidance other than saying 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs -so, with that, does anyone want to throw in some 2 cents worth of info/advice that possibly I can use to relay to DM about this diet, besides DON'T DO IT??? THANKS!
FILLISE, hope you get lots done so you can concentrate on getting ready for your trip. Celery is good, even better with the salad dressing to dip. I've never had the Carbolite bars-if I'm going to eat chocolate it's going to be the real stuff. I'm wondering if I should buy some of the PURE PROTEIN shakes that are in a can for my upcoming trip, the coffee is delish, it's only 150 calories, a gram or two of fat and a few carbs and good protein. I usually pack a cooler with food so don't have problems with that, the problem I have is with boredom and wanting to eat whatever I've packed before we've left the driveway!:fr:
GATOR, hope you feel even better today, enough so you can get in your walk tomorrow. Do a mile for me, I haven't been able to walk in weeks, maybe a month, I don't even know for sure how long it's actually been now.
TALITHA, glad to see your post! Glad you survived HANNAH'S BS;), sounds like she had a really good time. Geez, if I drank even half that much I'm sure I'd probaby of died of alcohol poisoning!!! I never drink, so I'd surely of been face down on the floor after a couple. Is SELAH'S keppy (Yiddish word for head) problem in the area where you have her in a car seat or one of those carriers? Just wondering, and if so, possibly that can be causing the trouble. I know many babies who get bald spots from being in their carriers/car seats too often. Hope you get it cleared up fast! Dying to see your brownie recipe, sounds yummy! Great car snack ideas!!!! Good grab and go snacks too!
DOOR, OMG, the CANDY BUSINESS?!?!? What kind? That's my BIGGEST downfall, candy. I do think it is inbred, honestly. My Grandfather owned a penny candy store, my DM grew up loving candy, of course, and I do too. CHOCOLATE is my drug of choice. Tell us more!!!!! OMG, working full time there? Glad it's not me, I'd not only be as big as a house, I'd surely eat ALL the profits!!!!! Okay, now I do have to ask, any of the goodies SUGAR FREE???
LAW, you'd think as we are eating junk and feeling crappy from eating crap we'd learn not to do it again. We must be glutins for punishment! Gosh, I haven't had Milk Duds in years-those and Sugar Babies! Glad to have you back FULL THROTTLE!!!
JACKK, glad we finally got to chat, as usual, I don't have much of anything exciting to tell about, just a friendly hello and to shoot the breeze:) 4 bars? You are too much! So DD is now a BAR FLY? If you can find plain ww pita you can make the chips yourself. Also good to try making them with some cinammon and agave brushed on them - yummy sweet treat! The cobbler sounds delish, but you know me, I'd make it and eat it in one shot-there's no hope for me-better not to make it, at least not right now, not until something clicks in the brain, either that, or make it one day and make sure I get one portion and the rest the family eats right away. No putting it in the freezer or hiding it, it doesn't help when I'm around!
BETH, glad to see you back, ALMOST called you over the weekend to see what was happening with you. I'm glad you're back, and back on track. You worked so hard on getting down to your low, just like me, just like many of us. You'll do it again and hopefully for good, but if not, you just have to pick yourself up and dust yourself off if you have a bad day and get right back on track - now if I can just heed my own words, life would be grand:)
MEL, glad to see you checking in to say hello. Girl, you must look liked AWNALD SHWARZENNAGER!!!!!! I'm sure you have bigger muscles than him, by now! Still eating all those huge portions of eggs? Did your SIL have the baby?
COUNTRY, just know, you aren't the only one who feels the way you do. I was talking with JACKK, and about how she's only 10lbs from goal, but not going down and why it is, when we get so close to goal, something we've tried to reach and have worked on reaching for so long, we tend to start screwing up. I know what it's been for me and why I've gained some of the weight back in the past, at least one of the reasons I have. If I don't find a way to deal with it, or fix it, I do believe I will be playing yo-yo with my weight the rest of my life. We have to find out WHY we do this to ourselves!!!! Unfortunately, I haven't found a single person with the answer and I don't think anyone has the answer but us maybe.
Well, seems I'm caught up here:) I'll check in later on today.
Have a good one!

Good afternoon, all! I am nominating myself for the self-control award today. The company I work for (The Scooter Store) celebrates EVERYTHING and this morning in the lobby they were practically force-feeding us Krispy Kremes!!! But I was good, and when someone tried to leave a whole box at my desk, I moved it away! The joke around here is about the "Scooter Store 20" - everyone gains at least 20 pounds in the first year of employment. Wish the celebrations would be a little more healthful...
Debbie, our family candy business is in Columbus, Texas and called Kay Klauber Candies (my mother-in-law). We make all kinds of brittles, creamy and chewy pecan pralines, coconut pralines, and the world's best hand-dipped (by DH) toffee that you have ever tasted. Last year for Valentine's Day, DH took a chewy pralines (my fav), dipped them in chocolate, and swirled my initial on the top - it was the best valentine I ever received. We do carry some sugar-free candy that is quite yummy, too!
Regarding Atkins - the Atkins website has detailed info regarding induction, acceptable foods, etc. and is very helpful. You really don't even need the book - just check out the website.
Well, back to work. Have a great afternoon, everyone!

Watching AUTO FOCUS, about BOB CRANE and just took a urination station break and came to check the e-mail and board.
DOOR, I'll take one of everything, excluding the coconut pralines, I don't care for coconut unless it's fresh, but everything else is just fine;) Toffee, OMG, love it! LOVE good brittle, hard to find anything like that down in Miami though, maybe I should be saying thankfully though! Gosh, I'm salivating! Girl, I wish you luck when you go to work there, I think I've gained a pound just thinking about it - talk about a dream job before I die-what a weigh to go!;) What do you do at the SCOOTER STORE? Sounds like either job would be fun! As for the Atkins sites, you can spend hours trying to find the answers to the questions you have. Mine are simple but it seems some people say nay when others say yes. It's more confusing than SB!
Okay, back to my movie...
BTW, anyone planning on watching BIG BROTHER tomorrow night? I know you are BOB!!!

Hi All: First a message from Melf - she has been super busy with her new job and liking it - and has taken on some extra time because the other nurse is going on vacation. She is doing well...and the storms did not get her.
I am in NYC and have shopped and walked - I am on a strict Sugar Buster diet - no cheats, no fooling around = just strictly business under my mother's watchful eye! I walked for 3 hours in the City yesterday shopping, and my arms are even terribly sore from all the bags!!! Today we went to a mall in NJ and I shopped again - lots and lots of sales and I love the no sales tax in NJ!
Take care all, Sabrina

Got to run, it's ball park night. Have my peanuts in my purse and taking big glass of water with me.
Beth, so glad to hear from you. Look at the bright side, you have been OP for 5 days now and down 4 pounds. You are going in the right direction. Youknow this works. Stay with us.
Mel, good to hear from you. I have been thinking about you. I have missed my wt training buddy. Glad you are doing good. My wt training has slipped a little this summer. Not enough time to walk and workout and run and play every night. A good weekend blowout is maybe what your body needs to shake it up. I need to get back into it and maybe this pop-in by you will motivate me again. Hope you can join us more regularly.
Gator, the recipe would have been posted Tuesday or Wed. Glad you got some antibotics. Those things don't clear up with just cranberry juice.
Country, what can we do to break this vicious cycle. Every Monday I'm up and get it off by Friday and then start again on Monday. I'm really tired of it. I've made it through summer before. I need a swift kick. When I started SB I was so determined to suceed as I was embarrassed to say I had started yet another diet. My friends and family hear that every month. So I was determined to prove I could do it. Now I feel that way about the weekends. I need to quit this up and down. Glad you are back OP. Throw away those chips. You don't need them around.
Deb, I always fix my bacon in the microwave on a bacon rack. I don't know how muchit saves you, but it has to help. Can't help you with Atkins. Oh how I love Sugar Babies too!
Door, cONGRATULATIONS on your self-control. Keep up the good work. Maybe you should suggest some more healthful awards.
Tranquil, glad you are having fun. Sounds like you are shopping to you drop. Congrats on staying OP too!. Hurry back we miss you.
Have a great OP night everyone.

Not much new with me - still struggling with my eating. I'm still pregnant (yay!) and we've heard the little heartbeat with our rented doppler, so I'm feeling a bit better about all of this.
For Deb about Atkins:
WHAT ABOUT QUANTITIES? If weight loss stops short of your ideal weight, even though you are producing ketones, you must conclude that the quantities within the diet are too great. The diet usually works best with just enough calories to stave off hunger. Too many people misinterpret the instructions regarding the diet as "Eat unrestrictedly." When they do this they will still lose weight in the beginning, which will reinforce their assurance that no heed whatever need be paid to quantities. In most cases, this practice will lead to a stalemate partway to the desired goal.
YOU MAY HAVE TO COUNT CALORIES IN ADDITION TO CARBOHYDRATES - I have never said that calories don't count because I know, of course, that they do. I say that carbohydrates count more. If your case is especially difficult, you may have to count both. There is no question that a 1,500-calorie, 10-gram diet will take more weight off, and more quickly, than a 2,000-calorie 10-gram diet.
Does this help answer the quantity question? If not, let me know.

:spin: Hi Everyone.
I'm posting a motivational saying that I really need this week. I've had a pretty blah feeling about work lately (use to love it...I may be going through a career crisis) so I know I need a vacation and to smell the roses.
Smell the Roses
"Happiness is as a butterfly which,
when pursued, is always beyond your
grasp, but which if you will sit down
quietly, may alight upon you -"
- Nathaniel Hawthorne -
This is a time allocation issue. It’s not hard to do, in fact, it’s quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, we have the tendency to consider “smelling the roses” a luxury item and we just don’t make time for it. The fact of the matter is, it will help improve our attitude, clarify our priorities and put us in touch with our inner self. (you know those warm and fuzzy things we call feelings)
Our lives get so busy sometimes, we end up in a response mode, responding to all the demands placed on us by the people around us. Busy fulfilling deadlines and expectations from our co-workers, friends and family. The problem with this is our own needs, thoughts and priorities get lost in the confusion. This isn’t just about us either, it affects the quality of our work, efficiency and overall productivity. It even has bearing on the quality of our relationship with others. We must listen to that inner voice for creativity, true priorities and to lay down the load for a moment and find peace. Everything we do will benefit as a result.
One of the most effective ways to “smell the roses” is to stop whatever we are doing, step away, just for a moment, and observe the beauty and serenity of nature. It could be as simple as a breath of fresh air, feeling the warm sun on our face, listening to the wind whisper through the trees or rustle the leaves. Smell the sweet fragrance of a flower and find the peace in your soul! From Motivational Sayings 10 things to improve your life.
As for the challenge...I'm drinking my water and excercise 3 times a week. My favorite to go snack is peanut butter on whole wheat (pepperidge farm 9 grain) bread. I also eat cheese on a string.
FYI...on SB I count calories. I eat between 1300-1600 calories a day. I don't count carbs. I just try and pick foods with a low glycemic index.

I just came across this on the main board...clicked the link and found this...anyone heard of this?
The Coconut Diet
According to the Mayo Clinic, 95 percent of those people who go on weight loss diets regain all their weight back within five years. Many regain more weight than they had before. The diets not only don’t work but can make matters worse. In order for a diet to work it needs to be permanent. This cannot be done with a weight-reducing diet. These types of diets are looked on as temporary restrictions in food, and as soon as the weight is lost we go back to eating the way we did before, the way that made us fat in the first place. You never stay slim by eating the way you used to. In order to lose weight permanently you must make a permanent change. This, however, is undesirable for most people. Who in their right mind would want to remain on a weight-loss diet forever? These diets are just too restrictive and in many cases unhealthy.
But what if I told you there was a diet that you would like, that you could stay on permanently and still enjoy most of your favorite foods without worrying about counting calories or weighing food? For lack of any better name I call it “The Coconut Diet.” I call it this because it is based around coconut and the fact that coconut oil is a reduced-calorie fat which promotes weight loss.
The coconut diet is simple. The most important and most unique feature of this diet is that coconut oil and other coconut products are used as much as possible. Most people are not accustomed to using coconut, so at first they may think this might be difficult, but it’s not. You can add coconut products to your ordinary way of eating without noticing much change.
The most important change is replacing all the refined vegetable oils you currently use in your food preparation with coconut oil. Eliminate all margarine, shortening, and other hydrogenated oils from your diet. Olive oil and butter are okay, but use coconut oil whenever possible.
The second thing you should do is use other coconut products as much as possible. Find ways to use fresh and dried coconut. You can find recipes in cookbooks. Coconut milk is a wonderful item that can be used in a wide variety of dishes. It can replace cow’s milk and cream in most any recipe and tastes great. Some of the dishes I make using coconut milk include butterscotch pudding, coconut milk pancakes, clam chowder, chicken almondine, and creamy coconut gravy, to mention just a few. Coconut milk that you buy in the can is not sweetened so it can be used for a wide variety of main dishes or desserts. With delicious meals like these, dieting can be a pleasure, and because there are no calorie restrictions to worry about, it can easily be maintained for life without feeling hungry or deprived.
When combined with a high-fiber diet, using coconut oil and coconut products can have a remarkable effect on your weight and your health. For more detailed information about using coconut products to lose unwanted weight I recommend the book Eat Fat, Look Thin: A Safe and Natural Way to Lose Weight Permanently. This book outlines a dietary program based on coconut and includes numerous delicious recipes.

Deb - Atkins sucks. But since you insist on finding info about it...
Atkins' theory is that ALL carbs are bad regardless of their glycemic index. Induction consists of two full weeks whereby you limit your total carbohydrate intake to 20 grams per day. You have to count the .7 carbs in a cup of coffee... you get the idea. ALL carbs should come from veggies (of course, no potatoes, carrots, etc.) NO carbs should come from any sugar source. Ketchup is bad because tomatoes are bad (high in "natural" sugars.) You're very limited. No fruits for the first two weeks (and most people can't eat hardly any even after that.) The basic plan is that you eat low-or no carb proteins, and low-carb veggies. Anything you eat, you can subtract the fiber content from the overall carbohydrate count to get a "net" carb value.
After the two week induction, you increase the number of carbs by 5 for an entire week and you keep doing that until your weight loss stops.
You should only eat until you feel full - no more!
There are a lot of "products" out there that purport to have little "net" carbs (the carbolite bars, Atkins bars, etc.) but MOST people have found that those things stall their weight loss. Also, they theorize that even diet drinks and "sugar-free" products "trick" your body into jacking up the insulin - but I think that is more a factor that too many people eat too much fatty food on the Atkins.
Why I don't like Atkins: 1. ANyone who makes this diet a way of life is going to HAVE to end up with colon cancer (the only fiber you get is basically from lettuce.) 2. It's not uncommon for people to eat 200 grams of fat and still be hungry. I was always hungry on this diet even if I ate a 1/2 lb cheeseburger with bacon. 3. I simply cannot believe that this is a healthy way of eating.
And now I will shut up!

Hello all-- Just a quick post before I take off to the hospital again. Our weeks vacation turned into a 1522 mile over nighter. When we got to SIL's there was a phone call from my Mother, that my Grandmother had taken a fall and broke her femor bone. Apparently she was out weeding and tripped on the sidewalk edge and fell. She laid OUTSIDE in a T-shirt and light pants from 3 pm until 7 am the next morning when her son found her. She had hypothermia and severe dehydration also. They were planning surgery for the next morning, so we headed home. She is doing fairly well, but has alot of PT to go through. I think she will be staying at a nursing home, or Swing Bed, for atleast two weeks for her PT. Then she will have to decide who she wants to stay with because she will not be allowed to stay by herself anymore. She is 86, and is a bundle of energy still. I hope that this will not knock the wind out of her sail.
The one good thing that did happen on our overnighter, is that Dh and I stopped at the Wheat Montana Deli and Bakery in Three Forks Montana. I bought a 10 pound bag of WW flour, and a package of hamburger buns. I have a loaf of WW bread going in the bread machine right now.
I will catch up with the posts this evening.
I will just add the foods that we took with us to travel;
Red Pepper strips
Celery sticks
RF cheese slices
Venison Summer Sausage (homemade)
Turkey Pepperoni
Canadian Bacon
SF WW Cracker's (I found some SB legal ones at Fred Meyers)
We didn't even stop for lunches, just snacked on these, and I also took some Granny Smith Apples.

amhlawyer--now tell us how your REALLY feel about Atkins!!!! :s:
BOB--Miss Belle is currently climbing up the laundry drying rack (when I spread my jeans out to dry she can walk on the top, but now I have some undies hanging there and she keeps falling between the dowels--she's a riot!) and doesn't seem to be too concerned about packing--guess I'm going to have to do it for her! There' sher food and water, then her toy bag, then her scratching post. The trunk of the car is full of snack foods for the youth conference (now how did I get stuck with all that???) andbetween that and Belle's stuff, I'm not going to have room for any of MY stuff!:dizzy:
Frog--is it really you???????:D Welcome home!!!!!! I did just about faint! You know we'll take care of you and we don't ccare if you've been bad--hop right on the wagon with the rest of us!
beach--when are you heading for the beach??? You should see some of the emails I'm getting today--hooboy!
JenninMN--I bet it is thrilling to hear that little heartbeat!
Jack-K--Glad you liked the cobbler. I also put it on the recipe board so that it would be easy to find!
Talitha--My goodness, it sounds like y'all had quite a time. I'd tsk, tsk, but I was young once----it was a really, really long time ago.:^:
Gator--the cobbler recipe is on the June recipe board--that should be easier than trying to wade through all the posts last week.
Mel--Goodness--this is old home week! Welcome back Mel!!!!!
doornum3---ohhh candy. I love watching unwrapped too. I love how almost all candy recipes begin with "combine sugar and corn syrup" I think my blood sugar goes up just from watching!
I've missed someone I know it! I've got to go get some dinner so I can finish working on a report due tomorrow and pack!

Hi, everyone -- just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm Deena, 30, SAHM and live in Florida, just outside of Tampa. I'm really excited about starting the SB woe, as I am a former (recovering! *lol*) Atkid. I do think there are some benefits to Atkins. For example, I had lots of energy, lost a *little* bit of weight (although, never got the results I was promised! :)) But that strict of an eating plan was just not something I could sustain for the long term. I have since gained all the weight back, plus 4 pounds. :( I feel Atkins was just a TAD unforgiving. *lol* But, anyway, now I'm back on track and feel that I can sustain the SB lifestyle pretty painlessly.
Interestingly, I knew a lady from another board (a low carb board) who could never lose more than 2-3 pounds on Atkins. She started Sugar Busters, and took off 45 pounds in three months. I find that encouraging! :)

Fillise--I found the recipe. Thanks. I made it tonight and my DH loves it. I used to make that cobbler with white flour, which, ahem, was also terrific. :)
I'm feeling much better now. I had a slight fever and some pain after I got to the doc's office, and was not feeling good at all. It's nice to be getting back on track.
BOB--I haven't heard from Monet yet. I'll give her the message.
Debbie--I didn't know you weren't walking. What's up? Did you hurt your foot or leg?

Welcome, Ghost! This is a wonderful, friendly board - you'll enjoy it, for sure.
Can you stand one more Atkins opinion? I was on it and lost 50 pounds about 4 years ago, have since gained about 20 back. I've tried getting back on induction several times and have failed miserably - heard the same from others trying to go back on again. For some reason, it suddenly seemed terribly restrictive to me. So then tried Weight Watchers for about the nth time and remembered how skillfully I turned into an obsessive eater!! It wasn't pretty. Sugar Busters seems like a good plan to me, esp. with family history of diabetes.
Do any of you keep food journals of any sort with SB? I like the idea of keeping a log with my Palm Pilot, and am checking into some programs that track sugar intake as well as protein, fat, carbs, etc.
Well, hope you all had a good day today. Thanks for your motivation!
:-) joanne

Hi, Joanne -- your pic is so cute -- I just love Wallace and Grommet. :)
I know what you mean about Atkins. I always felt deprived -- my meals just didn't feel quite right without some sort of carb (and I even like some healthy ones, like brown rice, blackeye peas, all kinds of beans). I hated all that meat and fat, too. *blech* Anyway, this seems like a much kinder, gentler approach. :)
I've also decided that one thing that will help me is only weighing in once a month, if that. Before I would weigh weekly, or sometimes daily, and if the scale didn't show what I wanted to see, use that as a mental excuse to get totally off plan. Well, none of that this time! *lol* Anyone else do this?

FROG Welcome back...I just rejoined the board too. I had gained back a lot of my weight and knew this was the place to come.
Fillise -- I leave Saturday Afternoon. I bet you got some good emails and some angry ones. I hope that the referendum does go through but having lived in Alabama for 41 years I don't have a lot of hope. But I can tell you, I like the Governor and Patsy is wonderful. I was able to meet her several times and she is so real. I've made that cobbler for years with white flour too and real sugar too. I'm not sure I could stop with one helping!
lawyer--I feel the same way about Atkins! I was on it for awhile and had horrible bad breath, and did not feel well at all. If you have any type of blood sugar problem it is not good for you. I have friends that have lost on it but they have gained it all back plus some. At least on SB, I may gain some back but not all of it and it helps me feel healthy.
BOB--This past summer I faced the decision that your are facing with Skeeter. My dog of 19 years became immobile. I would carry him from his bed in the back to his bed in the den and carry him outside and hold him up to help him go. But I wasn't ready and neither was he. When it was time, he ended up telling me and I knew it was the right thing. You will too. I now have the cutest puppy and his name is Cocoa and he is the best but I do miss my Bingo.
Jennin--Enjoy every moment...being pregnant...and everything else when they are little. I know it is a cliche but before you know it they are driving and leaving home.
Gator--Glad you are better. The pain from UTI is not fun!
Ghost--Welcome:)
Door--I journal. Try www.fitday.com It keeps track of calories, excercise and has a pie chart to show you the breakdown of carbs, fats, and proteins. I read an article that says the people who are most successful with weight loss and keeping it off do 2 things. They journal and excercise.
Teensy--I'm so sorry about your grandmother. I bet since she is fiesty that she will recover quickly. I'm thinking about you.
Country--Your weight will be down in no time...don't worry.
I hope I haven't missed anyone.
Question???I've been taking the new Citrucel pills for fiber they are wonderful. Has anyone tried them? My DR says everyone should take something like that to help prevent colon cancer.
Have a good day tomorrow and stay OP  (I'm saying that for myself!)

:o DEB--I'm blushing because I know you wanted the answers about Atkins and not the response I gave. For some people it works and most people who try it do like we did with SB and figure it out as they went. I think just like SB it is almost a trial and error to see what works. How much carbs you can have and still lose weight. I also think that you have to watch the calories. I'm a true believer that calories count but other things work such as high fiber and low glycemic foods and for some people high protein is the answer.:)

Good evening all--
I haven't had the time to go back and read all of last weeks board, did skim it quickly. Hope to have time to catch up.
We got my Grandma moved today. She went to the Deer Park Hospital, in what they call the Swing Bed. She will start her PT at 7:30 in the morning. She is in the same room that my Grandpa was in after he had his stroke. He was there for 4 years, but has been gone now for 2. She knows all the help, and nurses there so I think she will do wonderful.
Well, the WW bread turned out AWESOME!! I just need a way to make it without the molasses, and honey. For a two pound loaf it calls for 2 Tbl honey, and 2 Tbl molasses.
Question:
Do you think I could use splenda since it is made from real sugar?? I know artificial sweeteners won't work, or what about liquid stevia??
Fillise-- That recipe for the cobbler looks wonderful. I have some rhurbarb ready to pick. Will try it!!
Deena-- Welcome to Sugar Buster's. You are right, this is a very do able woe. I am a convert from Protein Power! After a year and a half, I stopped losing. I waited patiently for 6 months. Nothing I tried worked. Then after talking to Monet, I switched, and after a few weeks started losing again. Stick around, these gals are great!!
Gator--So glad you are feeling better.
Door-- I use fitday everyday to track my food. I usually don't do it on the week-ends, not because I eat bad, but because I am usually too busy to take the time. We have a pot luck every Saturday with the family, and I don't usually measure then. But M-F I am a fanatic!!
Beach-- Thank you for the kind words regarding my Grandma.
Deb-- I think that each person is different, and you just have to tweak the program to what works for you. When I was doing PP I know some people could eat quite a bit of cheese, and others couldn't hardly eat any. I never did the Atkins, but I think the first two weeks are the strictest. I think others on the lc board said not to really worry about the fat IF you are eating atleast 3 cup of good carb veggies. Once you start adding carbs, then I think you have to start watching the fat a bit closer. I stuck mostly with the leaner cuts of meats, and tried to stay away from the artificial foods. I also use the out door grill all the time. I think the Atkin site has a lot of sample INDUCTION menu's. I will see what I can find.

It's 7 am and I'm up early this am--got a LOT to do today to get ready to leave tomorrow. I'm still trying to get all the laundry done--I can't believe how many clothes I have to take to be away three weeks--especially with event s as diverse as summer camp and a wedding. I hope to be gone by this time tomorrow so we can travel as much as possible in the cool of the day.
Teensy--The Wheat Montana makes a great bread, doesn't it? I used the last of mine so I need another trip to Atlanta when I get back. I use agave in my recipe where it calls for honey--works just fine. I'm glad your grandmother is doing better--I'll keep her in my thoughts. Try the cobbler!
Beach--have a great time, I hope you get some good (dry) weather! I'm a big fan of the Governor and Miss Patsy too. I got to know them the first time he ran for Congress and they are wonderful people. My pastor has gotten all fired up about this referendum and had me come up with a Get out the vote strategy--he's taking it on as a mission project. I'm like you though in thinking that it will be very, very tough.
GhostDeen--Welcome! We have lots of Atkins converts here. You will also fine that we have folks that need to weight every day and those that do best if they don't. The same with counting calories, etc. One of the great things about this board is that we will do our best to help you find what works for you!
Doornum3--What kind of program do you use to keep track of food on your palm? I have one and would be interested! How's it going so far?
Gator--Yup the cobbler recipe is a keeper . And yes, I used to make it the same way, but this recipe translates well to WW flour and Agave. Not all of them do.
Time to get to work. I get to work at home this morning and then I have meetings all aftrnoon and evening. Can someone come over and pack for me? :^:
Have a great OP day everyone!
Susan
ps--deb--I stocked up on red and green grapes for the trip tomorrow!

Good Morning Everyone!
Hope everyone is starting out this wonderful day with determination and desire to be thin. We can do it.
Sounds like Atkins is not getting rave revues on this board. Which I guess is normal since this is SB board. My 2 cents, I neer tried Atkins, but it doesn't seem like something you can do for life and in order to lose and keep it off you have to make life style changes and I believe SB does that, pluse you can stay on it forever.
Had shish-kabobs for dinner last nite. They were delish. Bought tehm ready made at Kroger. I even ate all the veggies on there. It was a nice change. Didn't even need my peanuts I took to the ballgame.
Had a Dr's appt at 7:15 this morning. I was in and out quickly, not even late for work. BP was down, which was good. No change in the RA, so we will plug along as we are.
Jenn, how exciting listening to your baby's heartbeat. I'm glad things are going ok.
Beachfan, thanks for the motivational message. It is so true. we try to pack so much into our lives, we would be so much better off to reflect every once and a while. It might even help with our eating and overall health.
Bob, that is not good, no feeling in your fingers. I hope it dosen't continue to spread. Hopefully your Dr will call with some results soon. How did the visit go with the SILand brother? Was everything cleaned to their satisfaction? The only coconut product I can think of using would be Malibu Rum!
Frog, Oh my gosh. So glad to hear from you. Still doing the home interiors? Can't wait to get your scoop. Hope you plan to stay around this time.
Tennsy, How awful about your GM. Hope she is doing better. Sorry your vacation was cut so short.
Susan, is this another youth group trip? You are always on the go. Have fun. Hope you will be able to check in. 3 weeks is a long time to be away from us. We will miss you. Oh, I used ww pastry flour in the cobbler in lieu of the ww flour. Turned out fine.
Ghost, Welcome to our SB board. SB is so easy to do and so "life like". Not too much yu can't have and if you can't have it, there is probably a SB way to have it. Looking forward to getting to know you.
Gator, glad you liked the cobbler, Which fruit did you use?
Door, SEveral here journal, especially Deb and Quilter. I try to do it and it always goes by the wayside. Others use Fitday too.
Need to get busy, have a meeting in an hour.
Have a great OP Day!

The Loving Husband
Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands free speaker-function and begins to talk.
Everyone else in the room stops to listen.
MAN: "Hello"
WOMAN: "Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"
MAN: "Yes"
WOMAN: "I am at the mall now and found this beautiful leather
coat. It's only $1,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"
MAN: "Sure, ...go ahead if you like it that much."
WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2003 models. I saw one I really liked."
MAN: "How much?"
WOMAN: "$60,000"
MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."
WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing....the house we wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $950,000."
MAN: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer, but just offer $900,000."
WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you!"
MAN: "Bye, I love you, too."
The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are looking
at him in astonishment. Then he asks: "Anyone know who this phone belongs to?"

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone:wave:
I've recuperated from my fainting spell from seeing FROG post! Unbelievable that I didn't have an all out heart attack this past week, first BEACHFAN and now FROG! Who else will venture back???? (hint, hint for all of you who are lurking!!!)
Was going to try and get in a walk this morning but the timing is all wrong. It's too darn hot by the time I get back from taking LAUREN, around 9:30am and to go now, I wouldn't get back in time to take her after I took the time to make her lunch, much less make sure she gets up. She's not one of those who's easy to get out of bed in the morning.
Made our reservations for this Saturday night at the RIU - ahhh, such wonderful memories I have of that place and so many of you!!!! I'm hoping to see SOLSHINE this Saturday nights, with VINCE of course, but I haven't heard a word from her recently so I'm not sure if our dinner plans are still on-will have to e-mail her.
Thanks for all your input on Atkins. It will remain to be seen if DM actually does decide to do this diet. I know that it's not the best choice and I've made my ideas about it known. BUT, in recent light that many of the things I've heard lately say, on a short term basis it seems to be okay and work, I'm trying to help come up with answers, ideas and the like. What I think worries me the most is the going off of it and gaining all the weight back PLUS! If she gets through the induction of just 2 weeks and start adding back, maybe it wouldn't be so bad, but then, you don't know my DM and her dieting habits! She lost 7lbs in the hospital and has gained 1 back and is searching once again for a diet to follow. Unfortunately, she seems to be a lot like me, or maybe me like her, once on a diet it's hard to go on the same one again and be 100% OP. Anyhow, I'll continue to search for answers when I get the time, personally I just don't see what the big deal about using lf mayo or sour cream or cheese, vs high fat when they both seem to have the same amount of carbs (not fat). Perplexing!!!
Did anyone else get hooked in to watching FOR LOVE OR MONEY? I figured he'd take ERIN and I knew she'd take the million dollars, she said she would and I don't blame her, she didn't love him, there was no love at first sight or anything like that. BUT, what really stinks and shows not only poor judgement but greediness is that they brought ERIN back 3 weeks later and gave her the opportunity to meet 15 men, who know they will get 1 million dollars if she picks them, but, if they pick her over the million, she will get $2 million instead of the $1 million she already got, BUT, if the man picks the money instead, she walks away with NOTHING, absolutely ZERO, not even the million she got from this past show. When I saw that, I hoped she'd lose it all - that's just plain greedy!
TRANQUIL, how'd you hear from MELF, e-mail or telly? Glad to hear you are having a wonderful time all the while staying SB LEGAL! With all the walking and shopping you're doing you're bound to come back with a great WIW! I'm sure you and ZACH are hitting all the great places and shops. Be glad you drove there, if not, I'm sure with all the goodies they'd not have room for it all on the plane! Thanks for checking in - may try to give you a call on your cell phone this weekend! HAVE FUN!!!
JACKK, I looked on the web and tried to put some key search words in to see if there was any info on draining the bacon and how many grams of fat/calories one would save but just couldn't find it. I'm sure I will find something, just need the time to delve further. I wonder if I just wrote the company, if they would know? Does your bacon come out crisp in the nuker? Mine comes out so crisp, the way I like it! Your Dr. is in the office at 7:15am? WOW! Hope all is well.
BOB, did you download that e-mail cleaning tool? It's called EMAIL STRIPPER! I just copied your Hallmark post, put it in the window, hit a button and viola it was all cleaned up from those >>> thingies - it's free BTW! Problem is, now that I closed the screen, I don't know where on my computer the application is to find it, okay I found it now, put it on my desktop. Have fun watching BB tonight. I still think AMAZING RACE is the best reality TV show out there though. Did you watch FOR LOVE OR MONEY? Sorry to hear SKEETER and you are not doing too well, you know what they say, misery loves company! Hope you both feel better soon. BTW, how's KATE? Coconut Diet? What will they think of next? Yesterday I saw a book in the library, I think it was called THE NASHVILLE DIET!
JENN, glad to hear things seem to be going as planned with the pregnancy. I'm sure it's hard to keep on track with eating but just think how much better you feel when you are following OP, how better eating like this is for the baby and how, after you have the baby you'll probably weigh less than before you got pregant because during the pregnancy you could be losing weight! Thanks for the input on the calories, though I was more looking for quantities, such as food.
BEACH, I like that MM you posted! Is there any way you can do something else for a while within your job to give you (probably) a much needed break? Gawd forbid there should be another disaster in your area, not only bad for everyone but probably worse for you if you are feeling as such. I remember after the last big disaster there is where we began to lose you, and ultimitely did, until now that is. Hey, thanks for mentioning the PB, I had forgotton what a great food that is to keep in your car! I found PB flour, just add water and a tad of salt and viola, you've got not only PB, but low fat PB!!!!! Tell more about these fiber pills! I too definitely believe calories count, no matter what diet you are following!
FROG, okay, I admit, you had me floored there yesterday when I saw your post! I'm sooo happy to see you are back and can't wait to hear the going's on of late. We really have missed you a lot and as you can see, we're all so happy and delighted to have you back. I can't believe you moved, after all the work you were doing on the house! What happened? How's DH? What's new????? YIPPEEEE, you're back:!!!!
LAW, thanks for your input. I see where DM can't have her coffee, and she doesn't do decaf, so that may make her decide a resounding NO to this idea! You said Also, they theorize that even diet drinks and "sugar-free" products "trick" your body into jacking up the insulin this is actually true, which is why I say on SB that people shouldn't try to even think about SF chocolate and the like when they start SB, that the idea is to get the sugar out because your body/brain doesn't know it's "fake sugar". Have fun watching BB tonight!!!:D
TEENSY, so sorry to hear about your GM! What a terrible thing to happen, and with you being not only on vacation, but so far away from home and having to turn around right away. OMG, to be lying there with no help for all that time and no one to come help! Does she live where there's no one around to hear her calling out? I hope she has a speedy recovery and like you said, this doesn't bring her spunky self down. MONET will be happy to hear you loaded up with the WM flour, she loves that stuff! She'd be the one to ask about what to use in place of honey and molasses. Though, if you have the agave, you can use that for sure!!! Hey, when you make your sausage, do you use a casing? Always wanted to try and make this Lebanese sausage, but we can't find casing around in Miami, guess no one makes homemade sausages here in these city parts!;)
FILLISE, packed up and raring to go tomorrow???? Sounds like you'll be well stocked for the road come tomorrow! DRIVE SAFELY!!!
GHOST, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign2.jpg Glad you're joining our little part of the SB universe!!:D You're not too far from BOB, who lives in Sarasota! Thanks for sharing a little bit more info about yourself, it's always nice to learn a bit more about our board members. We have a BIO BOARD and when you get a chance, you may want to post on there as well. Exactly what happened to you on Atkins is what I'm afraid will ultimately end up happening to DM who is thinking about doing it, but actually, my Aunt who is doing it. I'll be seeing her next week sometime when she rolls in to town and will see if she's even still doing it and if there are any results (she lives in NC). Anyhow, don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have, we're all more than happy to help. Have you ever been to NUTRITIONSMART in Tampa? I wonder if they have the same as they do down here. Your decision to only weigh from time-to-time is smart, I use to be go crazy with weighing on the scale-on the RECOMMENDED READING BOARD there's WHY THE SCALE LIES-it's good to read:)
GATOR, just haven't been walking due to the rains we've had, DM who was in the hospital, LAUREN having to be at camp at 9am and me not being able to get my butt out of bed early enough to go beforehand. Nope, didn't hurt my foot or leg, that would be the best excuse if I did!
DOOR, throw those 2 cents in about Atkins. I'm now thinking it may not be a bad idea to print everyone's opinions out for my DM! Then again, I don't want to totally discourage her, it just MAY help, but that's a tiny may. I'm one that's tried WW on and off since I was 12 (I'm 40 something) and it never worked for me. SB and Richard Simmons Deal-A-Meal are the only 2 plans that ever worked for me, but with SB I was able to stay down, I gained after losing with RS. I do keep a food journal, on a steno pad. I actually recently bought a PALM PILOT and have downloaded a ton of freeware on it and I too have looked at some of the diet programs but I'll tell you, I think it's great if you are out and about and want to keep track of foods on it, but at home, I think it's easiest to write it down. I know the nutritional information of many of the foods I eat by heart and don't have to look them up. I use either the NAT site or CALORIEKING.COM to look up what I need to look up. I did download a list of foods from the USDA which is free. If you are interested in knowing what I've downloaded on my palm, feel free to contact me via e-mail Debelli@AOL.com
Okay, I think I'm all caught up, LAUREN is at camp, MICHAEL went with ALEX to his house again today and me, I'm going to go post a few TUESDAY TIPS and go find me something to eat. I have to make sure to get to Publix today, they have $2 off all GM cereals and I'm plum out of Fiber One and that's a great deal since there's never any good coupons out there for it!
Will check in later!

TRIMMING DOWN ON MEAT
from http://www.dietsurf.com/diet-tips/trimming_down_on_fat.htm
Backyard barbecues are a summer tradition, but when you're trying to cut back on calories and fat, you've got some decisions to make about what to cook on the grill. If you stick with traditional favorites like burgers or beef steak, start by choosing cuts that have a very low fat content most of the time, and reserve higher fat cuts of meat (like most steak) for special occasions (once or twice a month)._Here's some information that can help you make more informed decisions when it comes to buying "red" meat.____
A weighty issue
It's important to note that the fat content listed on packages of meat sold in U.S. supermarkets display the percentage of fat_ by weight, not by calories. What does this mean to you? If you are trying to follow a diet that is 25-30% fat,_ no more than 25-30% of your total calories should come from fat._ However,_ meats that are 25-30% fat are not a good choice for your diet! Why? A pound (16 ounces or 454 grams) of meat that is 25-30% fat by weight_ contains 4-5 ounces of pure fat. That translates to 114-136 grams of fat in 16 ounces of meat, or about 28-30 grams of fat in a single 4 ounce serving of meat. For someone eating 2000 Calories a day , half of their fat calories for the whole day are contained in a single 4 ounce serving of meat! And, about half of the fat in red meat is saturated fat, so not only is it a poor choice for fat and calories, there is a great deal of saturated fat in fatty meats, making it a poor choice for heart health as well.
Fat adds flavor and tenderness to a cut of meat, and very low fat meats can get too dry and tough when you grill them. With leaner cuts of meat, use other ways to add flavor and improve texture:
Cut lean steak into chunks, marinade and grill them on skewers, alternating with vegetables, chicken, and shellfish.
Grill flank steak in one large piece, cut against the grain (along the bias) into thin slices and don't overcook. Flank steak is extremely lean cut of beef and has a very good flavor, but gets tough if overdone.
When grilling burgers, if you start with very lean ground beef, (7-10%), use a barbecue sauce or marinade or add some spices and "fillers" to the meat to add some texture and flavor. Or, top your hamburgers with green chiles, salsa, grilled vegetables like onions and green pepper, or very low fat cheese in addition to tomatoes, lettuce and other condiments.
If you are a "meat" eater, when it comes to "red" meat, read the labels for fat content, and choose the cuts with the lowest fat content for good health most of the time. The leanest types of "red" meat are flank steak (sometimes called skirt steak or London Broil w/o bacon), super lean ground beef (7-10% fat), pork tenderloin, buffalo (read label for fat content), and most wild game such as elk or venison. You do not have to avoid all red meat! In fact,_ 4 ounces of very lean red meat (such as flank steak), has a much lower fat and calorie content than 4 ounces of roasted chicken with skin._
Enjoy your summer barbecues, but do take a few minutes to read labels!

There's No Such Thing as Cheating
By Chad Tackett, President of Global Health and Fitness
There's no right or wrong way to eat. Healthy eating is all about motivation, balance, and flexibility. There will be times when you eat a high-fat meal or eat beyond fullness, or when your schedule gets so busy that you miss a work- out. This happens. It's normal. But it's very important that you don't get down on yourself and abandon your new healthy lifestyle when this happens.
If you're like most people, your reaction to these diet/ fitness obstacles is guilt. You feel as if all your hard work has been for nothing. "I blew it; I was doing so well. Oh well, I might as well enjoy this weekend and start over on Monday." Or even worse: "I just don't have the motivation or will power to start over and be successful. I quit." Feeling defeated, many people discontinue the healthy living and return to their old routine until some mythical time in the future: "Maybe this spring will be a better time to start over again." This kind of scenario is a perfect example of the diet mentality at work.
An all-or-nothing attitude is why so many people have so little success; we choose structured programs because they relieve us from making choices for ourselves. A properly designed program makes sense, but expecting to stick to a structured eating and exercise plan for an extended period of time without ever deviating makes no sense at all. In fact, this is so unrealistic as to be a set-up for failure. If you begin to change your habits with the assumption that any deviation from your plan will ruin it, you might as well not even begin. Life is full of unplanned obstacles, distractions, and temptations. Your best approach is to prepare for them, keeping an open mind and maintaining a positive attitude.
It's very important that you begin your healthier lifestyle with an understanding that there will be days when you will stray from healthy eating and exercising. Before you begin, tell yourself that no matter what happens, rather than abandoning your new lifestyle, you'll resume your healthy habits as soon as you can; it is equally important that you feel confident, not guilty, about doing so. What- ever the temptation or obstacle is, keep in mind that it's not wrong or bad to eat fattening foods once in a while or to miss a workout. Just remember to resume your healthy lifestyle. If you keep moving forward and you don't let guilt and discouragement stop your program all together, you'll eventually have improved eating and exercise habits.
With this approach, there is no such thing as cheating. When we feel we are cheating, we often punish ourselves; we make ourselves feel guilty, frustrated and defeated. Replacing the negative concept of "cheating" with the idea of "straying from healthy habits" takes away the all-or- nothing emphasis on right and wrong. If you treat every deviation from your plan as a failure, you won't get very far
Substituting the idea of a brief straying away from your plan instead of feeling guilty, and learning to return more and more quickly to healthier habits, is more realistic. It's also easier and more enjoyable.
In the non-diet approach, all foods are legal. There are no "good" foods or "bad" foods. You must believe this. Sudden changes and/or drastic restrictions of high-fat foods when you have a preference or craving for fat will result in feelings of deprivation. No one can or should go through life depriving themselves of foods they really enjoy. You must learn how to make gradual healthy changes to the foods you love while experimenting with and learning to appreciate new flavors and textures.
A recent survey showed that more than 75 percent of people feel guilty about eating so-called "bad" foods. The greatest obstacle to adopting healthy eating habits is guilt. Attaching a value to foods only makes you feel bad for eating them. When you do decide to eat a high-fat food, enjoy it. Don't beat your- self up over it. Just make a special effort to eat low-fat the rest of the day. Remember, there is nothing wrong with splurging now and then. It can even be good for you if the satisfaction of a higher-fat meal that you've been craving helps you stick with a low-fat lifestyle the rest of the time.
If you're having a special diet meal that's different from what the rest of your family or friends are eating, you'll feel as though you're being punished. In order to be successful in changing your eating habits, you must look forward to and enjoy each meal you eat. This doesn't mean that you have to learn to like rice cakes and celery. It means you must learn how to make simple changes in the foods you love.
Perhaps one of your favorite meals is fried chicken, a baked potato, and salad. Small changes in how the food is prepared can turn this traditionally high-fat meal into a low-fat well- balanced one. Simply marinating a skinless chicken breast in sweet and sour sauce, rolling it in bread crumbs, and baking it makes the chicken a lot less fattening than if it's fried. Instead of butter or regular sour cream on your potato, try low-fat or nonfat sour cream or a reduced fat ranch dressing. Try using a non-fat or low-fat salad dressing rather than a regular dressing and adding as many vegetables to your salad as possible for their additional flavor, texture and nutrients. Any or all of these changes drastically reduce the amount of fat in the meal without sacrificing flavor or feelings of satisfaction.
Healthy eating patterns can only occur when you're enjoying all the foods you eat. If you're eating low-fat foods just to be healthy but without enjoying the flavors and textures or how they make you feel, this most likely won't be a permanent change. However, if you begin enjoying healthy foods, you're far more likely to stick with healthy eating for life.
Many people also enjoy eating out but associate this with being "bad" or eating "illegal" foods. Fortunately, it is very possible to eat a healthy, low-fat meal in a restaurant. You don't need to forego your favorite foods or eat before you go out with friends or family. The same decision-making process occurs whether you eat at home or go out to a restaurant. Many people think that they have two options when eating: eating for taste and pleasure or eating for health. As you learn and practice healthy eating techniques, these two options will become one and the same. Good luck and enjoy all the wonderful benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.

Loved the post on cheating, Debbie - really hit home and gives me lots of good things to remember.
Thanks for the info on fitday - I'll have to check it out. Last night I downloaded FitnessPlan from the Handago site ($9.95); it was one of the only ones I looked at that included sugars in the nutritional info. I'm still a littly hazy on exactly how I should be doing this, although I've read through the SB book. Basically, I'm trying to eat moderate portions with as little sugar as possible (switched to sugar free whole wheat bread, lots of fruits and veggies, low fat meat, etc.). Been a little headachy the past couple days, but I imagine that will pass once the sugar is out of my system.
I love reading all your posts and your wonderful warm comments - please excuse me if I don't respond to each! I'm still getting used to board and don't want to appear rude or uncaring.
The Palm I'm using is an M125 that I bought off eBay pretty inexpensively. I had a nice HP Pocket PC with all the bells and whistles, but to tell you the truth, I didn't use a fourth of the stuff on it and decided simpler was better. Plus got a pretty purple faceplate for my M125!
Teensy, I'm glad to hear your Grandmother is doing better and it sounds like she will be comfortable around people that she knows. What a blessing for her and your family! My mom's in a nursing home after suffering a massive stroke 4 years ago (diabetest-related). She's had a bedsore on her ankle for weeks that is slow to heal, and this morning when I stopped in she was screaming for a nurse, in more pain than I've ever seen her in. It was all I could do not to cry in front of her. I'm sorry to hear about your Grandfather's stroke, and know first-hand how devastating they can be.
Have a wonderful day, everyone!

The skyline when driving in - I have not seen it in "Person" since the summer of 2001 - choked me up - the Empire State Building was so alone.....Melf wrote me - I had written her the other week when the Mr. Bill blew in....I was worried about her and Therman, and the kids and grandkids.
Newbies, Hello, I am glad you found Sugar Busters and this great board! The members are helpful, supportive and kind....when I get back into the groove of posting, it will seem like I am a newbie too.... All new posters... I have been neglectful of posting on the board - and I can tell - I gained! The Board helps me keep on track - as well as my weekend calls to our Detox Dungeon Mistress, Debbie. Hope you find the same wonderful support I have found.
JackK - MISS YOU TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope all is well with you! I have made a promise to myself to stick true to posting and all....With work having been so busy, getting home so tired and stress - the doctor was happy that I had lost 15 pounds since April, but I gained it back in one week after she said You did Great! hahaha
Well time for me to get myself into gear and leave for the malls with Mom and DS - Take care all, and if I get a chance I am definitely going to fight for a spot on the computer tonight for chat!

Hey All:wave:
Been lazy today. Haven't done much other than some cleaning and surfing the net.
Going tonight to the library, they are looking for p/t help, about 19 hours a week. Thought I'd take a chance and see if I can get it, I think it's just 3 days a week, which would be perfect for me. I understand there's a lot of interested applicants though, so we'll see what happens:shrug: Guess I WON'T be seeing BB as it happens, will have to tape it as I don't think I'll be home in time.
DOOR, I bought an older model palm the Palm IIIc, also got mine on Ebay, got one for MICHAEL as well for his upcoming bday. Will have to check out the program you mentioned on Handango. I'll download just about anything and try it out if they have a trial period, but alas, I haven't found one I like as of yet. Other programs that I've found for free are awesome, esp. the one that lets you download pictures! I also like MAXIMUS, a calendar. VEXED is an addicting game. There's lots more! Glad you liked the post. I try to have TUESDAY TIPS things to post but sometimes don't have the time to go find things to do so, today I did:) If you haven't checked out the INFORMATION BOARDS you should when you get a chance, lots of good info archived on those boards. Just remember, those foods with 3grams of sugar or less are acceptable PER SERVING, but if you can find the same food without sugar, it's better:)
TRANQUIL, you are doing so good, it's truly a testament that if you want to stay OP bad enough that you can, even being away from home! I hope I remember this when I take the kids away in a couple weeks! I'm sure you're having a wonderful time, though you best be careful, DM may move from saying something about your weight to saying how you spoil ZACH - remember, they're NEVER happy unless they complain about something;) Thanks again for checking in!!
GHOST, I posted this recipe in April, but I've never actually tried it. If you do try it, would you let us know how it turns out?

As some of you already know, there has been a shooting in Meridian, MS. That's where I live. I live about 10 minutes from where it happened. It happened at the Industrial Park(Lockheed). The guy was Doug Williams. He came in the plant where he worked and just started shooting people with a shotgun. He killed 5 and then shot hisself. There are 8 more people at our local hosptials that were injured. I don't know what their condition is. They say the guy was a self proclaimed racist. But that they don't think it was a racist attack since victims were both white and black. I don't know. It's just senseless and I can't understand how a person can have that much hate. Please pray for the families of the victims.

Eating and exercising is going pretty good tihs week. So far so good. :) I loved today's article on there are no no-no's. I think everytime I start doing that I start cheating even more.
I made a yummy little throw together soup this afternoon. Pinto bean soup. One can pintos...two cans water...one can southwest style tomatos with green chilies....onion...jalapeno....cilantro...lime juice...garlic...cumin and salt and pepper. Been munching on bites here and there. I can't wait to actually sit down and eat a bowl.
Deena, welcome!
Jenn....so glad you can hear the baby's heartbeat. I remember those special times. You are making special memories that will last a life time. And when your soon to be little one gets older you can share them.
Deb....woman you wear me out. You are always on the run. I am praying your moma decides not to go with the adkins. I know it works for some but I've heard so many negative things about it. I do know that if your mom has any kind of auto immune type illness this would not be a good plan. Hight protien is bad for lupus...fibro...Ra...ect.
Welcome back frog..it's been a while. Good to see ya.
Heartmom....praying for all those touched by this senseless attack.
Off to munch a little more.
Love and hugs,

Hello Everybody!!!
I just wanted to check in to say I'm here, I'm eating better and I'm busy. Here's what went on today. 1. Painters came to power wash the house. 2. Carpenter friend came over to hang a door on our new guest room. 3. I stayed home to monitor all this and worked on my curtains for the above-mentioned guest room. Of course, I don't have enough material to line both pairs. But I will get one pair done and hung tonight. I like them pretty much. They aren't fancy and I just bought those little cafe curtain rings to pinch on the top. I was going to put in grommets since I have a grommet maker, but decided to try something even easier.
So needless to say I haven't had any time to read the board. So consider me ridiculously behind. I apologize to everyone who's written something personal to me since Monday and I've missed it.
Guess what??? Remember I told you all about my friends tie dying dresses for my 7 reunion girls? Well, they are done and I just got them today. They are beautiful. You wouldn't believe it. When we have our reunion, I will take a picture of all of us together looking lovely and post it. I've already tried mine on and it's great. I'll get Paul to take a picture of me tonight in it so I can post a little later.
Okay, that's it from this end. I'm trying to make a little supper. Will wonders never cease??? I hope you all are well and doing great. Good luck tomorrow when you weigh in.

Hi Frog! Long time no see  Of, course, I haven't been here either. Sounds like your life has been wild for the past year. Fill us in when you get a chance?
Deb- I did a no-carb diet for a while called "Cyclic Ketogenic Diet". It was designed as Atkins for bodybuilders, and had a one and a half day "carb-up" at the end of the week, to build enough glycogen for lifting, then get back into ketosis for a while. I did lose fat on it, but I really craved vegies! The novelty of eating meals like 2 tablespoons of cream cheese mixed with peanut butter and almonds wore off pretty quickly. I did enjoy having actual yolks in my omelettes, tho.
I really liked that article about "Cheats". Spoke volumes to me, since I tend to be an all or nothing person.
Heartmom- That is so horrible, I can't imagine the devastation for the families. The randomness of it is stupifying.
Bob- I loved your "not a hallmark card" post yesterday. I could write a few more....
Ghost- If you buy the carob chips made by Sunshine (I think) there's a good almost brownie recipe that's SB legal with a few subs printed on the wrapper. I think all you need to change is the honey (use agave). Long ago, I think Deb posted it in the recipe thread. I've been making brownie pancakes which I can almost fool myself with:
1/3 c. dry old fashioned oatmeal
1/3 c. cottage cheese
4 egg whites
1 tbs. cocoa powder
1 teaspoon agave
1 packet stevia
Wing it around in a blender til smooth, then cook it like a pancake. If you can afford the calories, put a few walnuts in it. It's not real sweet, so you might want to up the agave or put in some other legal sweetener.
Sabrina- Don't buy out NY. DD is headed there on Friday and expects to find something left.
I'm feeling really old today: DD is 21. She's spending the summer working for the EPA in Columbus, OH so I won't see her til the weekend. Based on our phone call at 6pm, she was thoroughly enjoying being 21 :dizzy: I hope she remembers she has to work tomorrow. They are not real forgiving with their student interns.

Good afternoon all-- Been running again today. Took the truck in to the dealer this morning. Thought something was wrong with the cruise control. When you would step on the break to undo it, it would really jerk. But they said it was normal for a big deisel truck. Huh?? This is only a Dodge pickup!!
I picked my second cucumber today. They are sooo good. There will be alot ready tomorrow or the next day. We are going to have lots this year. Can't wait for the mato's to get ripe.
Grandma was doing great today. She said her PT went well, and she is talking of going home!! But she won't be able to live by herself now for awhile, (if ever again). But we are not pushing that at her yet!!
Fillise-- Here I am reading the board, and I only came on here to get the recipe for the cobbler. I was out in the garden, and do have to get my rhurbarb picked. And I picked two cucumbers, and willl have about 6 or 7 more tomorrow!! Fresh lettuce and cucumber salad. Can't wait for the tomatoes!! When I bought my WW flour at Wheat Montana bakery, she told me to go to their web site, and see if there was anywhere close that sold it. I found lots of stores here that carry the flour. You might want to try it and see if there is anywhere close to you.
Jack-k-- Boy those shish-kabobs sound good. I love grilled veggies. My brother makes some killer ones, but he works out of town, so don't get to see him too often. Maybe I should get brave and try some. I have taken over Dh grill because I want almost all of my meat done this way to reduce the fat. Glad to hear the BP was down.
BOB-- Dh had the same thing happening to him LAST year. His arms were going numb. They did surgery on his neck. His spinal cord was being pinched so that the spinal fluids where not flowing down the column like they should. So it was causing the numbness. It was a very easy surgery, compared to the other two he has had. (Total hip replacement, and the back surgery). He was only in the hospital overnight. Hope that you will get some results soon. It is not fun to be in pain, let alone constant pain!!
Deb-- You know, after I got the call from my Mom, all I could think about was her lying there calling for help and no one hearing her. I just can't get that picture out of my mind. We all live out in the boonies around here. Grandma lives on my Uncles propery, but they are a quarter mile apart, and he is as hard of hearing as they come!! Even though she is 86, she didn't need any help or any of those life alert monitors, until now, that is. She still just kind of over looks the fact that the Doctor told her she is going to have to stay with someone for quite awhile. When I stopped in to see her today, she was talking about the number of stairs she has at her house. ONE, but there is three at my Mom's. And I think that is where she will be going. My Mom has wanted her to live with her ever since my Dad and then Grandpa passed away. This is my Dad's mother, but Mom said Grandma raised her too. (My folks were married at the young age of 16.)
Door-- Thank you for your kind words. I hope that your Mother finds some relief from her pain. My dear Grandfather passed away two years ago. And I still miss him so much.
Well, I smell my turkey breast cooking, best get that recipe and get off here!!

Hi All:
I snacked on a few Strawberries, had 6 triscuits with peanut butter made with the only ingredient being peanuts (fresh ground in front of Mom), for lunch I ordered 1/2 a Balsamic Vin Salad from California Pizza Kitchen and only ate 1/2 of it - it was not the best....for dinner we went Japanese, so I asked if they could make sushi using brown rice, and they were more than happy to do that - so I had two cucumber rolls made with brown rice and a cup of Miso soup...then home and snacked on about 4 more strawberries....breakfast was the Fiber One and berries....We walked, shopped and then I had enough! My feet are killing me....
Mel - I will do my best not to shop out NYC - but though I wish I could, I could not ;) But I have done a good job trying....
Bob - we are going to watch Punch Drunk Love video tonight - have not heard your review on it yet as I have been missing in action - did you see it and did you like it? Poor thing, Jury Duty - YUCH!!!!
Crystal - I love your new little icon - you look terrific!!! You are definitely an inspiration!!!! Soup sounds delish!
Quilter - I tell you this house stuff gets stressful - they are pulling up my floors in the downstairs at this very moment in my house - I am having the entire downstairs tiled - it was carpeted...no more...I picked out tile, paid for it (it was in stock) to get a phone call from the frantic salesman to tell me he was picking out different, but similar tile for me to look at - seems there was a big mess up in the wherehouse - the tile I bought and PAID for was sold out from beneath my nose to someone else.....so oh well, back to square one.... Looking forward to seeing your picture with the dresses....
Tomorrow is the Gugenheim and lunch at Serendipity III....take care all! Have an OP Night!

Good Tuesday!
Day 2 SF. I know this gets easier as it goes along! Just gotta keep plugging away day by day.
We closed on our house today :high: , even though we took possession 10 days ago. We have more square footage, it's completely remodeled (our other one still needed much more work and we were getting tired of being weekend warriors), just needs a new roof which we'll get in the next few weeks. Our lot is larger and our bedroom is HUGE! The floor plan is much more to our liking as well. we have a large wrap around front porch and a BBQ deck on the side of the house. It was built in 1930 like our last one and is only 1/2 mile away. Nonetheless, is still took us 5 full days to get the two of us moved over here. :stress:
Dixie and Kitty (Mary-Ca) made the move with us and have adjusted well.
Work is still going well. Not doing so much with Southern Living at Home at the moment. Too busy with all the other things going on.
We went camping for a long weekend with my family in the NC mountains about a month ago. All at the same time we were preparing for moving, camping, and having our kitchen remodeled in the former house. I was a nut case to say the least. :yikes:
Mr. Frog got a nice promotion at the first of May and I'm so proud of him. :goodvibes: We still work one block from each other and enjoy that.
Not much else has changed here!
Gotta run! Talk at y'all later!
Peace,
FROG

Thank you for the recipes, Deb and Meliris. By the time I saw them, I had already tried one I found, made with sg whole wheat flour and aspartame sweetened yogurt. They came out very nicely. Until disaster struck. I accidentally left the burner on that I'd been using to melt the chocolate (set on low) -- then my husband set the pan of finished brownies on top of it (not realizing it was on). Well, now we have brownies with some really well-done bottoms. Duh! So, looks like I'll have occasion to make another batch.
Kim -- I have a question for you -- it looks like your starting weight and my current weight are very close (well, I flatter myself, because mine is 4 pounds more, but ANYWAY... *lol*) I was just wondering how long it took you to get down to your current weight. Looks like you've lost nearly 20 lbs -- way to go! :)

GHOSTDEEN---Hi! Welcome! I guess I missed when you joined our group. Sorry about my many absences these days. Well, I started back on track on January 23 of this year. (I'm an on again/off again person. Been with this group for over two years.) So I guess you can say it's 5 months. But don't get discouraged, because I have played around many a week and not been true to what I should be doing. You could probably lose more than 20 in 5 months if you stick to your guns. I will say that I have been exercising regularly and I think that helps a lot too. GOOD LUCK to you!!! This is a great place to come for support and encouragement. There are many people like DEB and JACKK and MELF who have lost so much weight and are so healthier than they were. I look to them for inspiration. I hope you will do the same.
Good night all!!!

 Hi Everyone
Here's my contribution for Tuesday Tip Day
Weight loss requires that you change the way you eat, the amount you exercise, the way you think about food, and more. That's a lot! And when you're looking at such a huge step from square one, it can seem really scary.
The key is to break the weight loss process down into smaller steps, so success will seem more accessible. As you accomplish each "mini-goal," you'll feel like a winner. That sense of accomplishment is great motivation for meeting more mini-goals, and more, until suddenly you're at the weight you've always wanted.
"Making small changes one at a time is a great strategy," agrees Dr. Howard Rankin, A Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, psychologist and author of Inspired to Lose (Step Wise Press, 2001). "It's not overwhelming, and it results in a slower, more steady weight loss."
Remember: When it comes to weight loss, slow and steady wins the race. It's the pace that will help you get to your goal, then stay there.
:cp:
I try to remember this everyday.
Today I had a tough day at work. So as you know, I wanted to eat to cut the stress. But instead of eating off plan I just had more of the OP stuff. Hopefully, I won't fall off the wagon like I did before when things became so stressful.:tape:
Deb...thanks for asking about work and suggesting that I try to just take a break for awhile away from disaster response. I'm not sure what I want to do and right now we are going through major org. changes. I have a job and should be happy because there are people who won't have one but I'm just questioning career wise what I should do. I'm 41. Any major change I make needs to be soon. Otherwise I will start to worry about losing benefits and retirement if I want to change jobs. Plus I have to put both kids through college and that starts in 2 years:fr: I hope you get your library position...it sounds ideal.
Frog...glad things are going well for you.
Heart...I'm so sorry for what happened in Meridian. My thoughts are with the families.
Everyone else. No time to reply to all but know I am thinking about you.:D
Hope everyone has a good WIW:hat:

Oh man that show "Unwrapped" on the food channel is great but gives me the munchies big time!!
I'm scared to drink a beer now because is been doing this for so long I'm scare I'll go into insulin shock or something.
I went to a friends house on the 4th for fireworks and brought my own jug of drinks with me. I put in no added sugar Cranbury juice, orange juice and vodka. Tastes great and legal as far as I can tell.

Welcome to the board!
Did great over the 4th weekend. Well had some watermelon and potatoes salad, BUT! According to Eat yourself slim by Michel Montignac, potatoes were ok as long as they were boiled in the skin because it lowers the GI and since it was cold lowered it even more.
I always make my potatoe salad by boiling the potatoes in the skin.
Tasted good but left me feeling blechy so won't bother again.
Won't be weighing in tommorow cause TOM showed up Monday :P

Geez, almost forgot what day it was, then realized it was WIW - hope you all have good luck with the scales.
I don't have but a few minutes to post this morning. Have to jump in the shower and get ready to go up and spend the day in Broward NOT with ELI, but with my yoga teacher. She wants to see all the places I go to and since ELI isn't off this week, I decided, what the heck!
Will check in later this evening and try to catch up on the posts!!!
Have a wonderful day!

Happy WIW Everyone!
Hope the scale is good to everyone today. We deserve it don't you think?
I am down 2 lbs to 153. So desparate to get out of these 150's. I have spent way to much time here. Monday, the scale was at 157 so water or whatever, I am happy to be at 153 today. Now to get passed it in the right direction.
Finally get to chat last night and no one was there. I was so disappointed. Oh well, maybe next week.
Beach, your Tuesday tip is so true. I also suggest rewarding yourself when you reach those mini goals. I did that for every 10 pounds when I started and it was so nice and something to look forward too. We did not gain this wt overnight and we will not take it off overnight.
Cheryl, your drink is also my drink of choice (Madras), but sorry to let you down, that vodka is not legal. But 1 or 2 won't hurt. My problem is I don't stop at 1 or 2.
Deb, you will take any chance you can get to go to Broward. Have fun.
Need to get busy. Have a great WIW and OP day.

Teensy--Instead of the honey or molassas, use undiluted frozen apple juice. I made WW bread for years using nothing but ww flour, the apple juice, yeast and salt. It was fabulous. Also, the apple juice is a lot cheaper and easier to get than the agave. Save the agave for the SF cheesecake recipe.
Jack K--I used fresh Ga. peaches for the cobbler.
Frog--Are you still running, and will you be in the marathon or 1/2 marathon in Orlando in Jan?
Debbie--I understand how it is about walking in FL in the summer. To be able to do it with our humidity, I have to be out the door no later than 7:30, and preferably by 7. To me, it?s still night at 7 am. So it is easy to "fall off the walking wagon."
I haven?t heard from Monet yet. I think they are in Cocoa Beach doing a surfing school.
Not much news. Staying on play pretty much. Did not work out on Monday due to feeling punky with the UTI. Have one more day of antibiotics. Spent some time last night transferring all the caterpillars from the fennel to the parsley so that the fennel could recover from being pretty much stripped by the hungry caterpillars. the 3 cats I'm raising indoors are still eating like crazy, and I hope they go into crysalides soon.
Have to run. Am getting my hair cut today.

Happy WIW all! Hope the scales are good to you. I'm at the same exact weight as last wiw (184) and I'm thankful given all the crap I ate this past holiday weekend. And I don't think I worked out once in the last 7 days (I tried to go yesterday and wouldn't you know it, the electricity at our gym had been out due to a storm the night before!)
My new goal is to lose 5 lbs in the next two weeks. I'm leaving for Seattle on July 25th to see my dad (havent' seen him in 3 1/2 years) and I just feel like I could be SO happy if I were simply in the "170's" (even if it were 179.5!) by then. My birthday is July 29th so I'm also trying to "save up" a splurge day to go eat my favorite carrot cake (real cream cheese frosting) and my favorite meal: Rattlesnake Pasta at JAlexander's. YUMMYYYYYY!!!! So I'm off to drink a gallon of water, eat my plain tuna and mixed green salad for lunch...
Cheryl, my husband belongs to a homebrewers organization called: S.H.I.T. the Selacious Homebrewers In Toledo. Lovely, eh? Doctors, lawyers, Hardware store owners and they are still just very big Kids. Anyway, we're as fanatical about beer as many people are about wine. It's been really hard to stay away from the good (aka: high-carb) stuff. We've been reduced to drinking a low-carb beer every now and then but it really sucks. It's not "good beer" as we know it.
Jackie! Good Job! That's fantastic progress. Oh, to be in the 150's! But I'm working on it - talk to me in November!
Everyone have a nice hump-day!
Oh, bob and deb - I had to tape last night's BB4 so don't disclose anything that happened! I haven't watched it yet!

Yuck! The scales are so far up this morning I'm not even gonna post it. Needless to say I jumped on the water hoping tomorrow will bring a lower number. I KNOW that numbers shouldn't matter but they do. I haven't got past that yet. When they are up I tend to get discouraged.
On a happier note I found a lady down the road last night that wants to start walking! Talk about God making things work out. I've missed walking outside a lot. This new lady tried walking with a friend but the friend bailed after two days. She asked me how many days I walked. I said as long as someone wants to come with I'll walk every day. She was excited and so was I. There are only a few houses on my route so I'm amazed to find another person to walk with. :)
Jack-K....WTG! You passed me down just like you said ya would. Now it's my turn to catch back up. :)
Gotta run...water is really kicking in.

Good Morning!
I'm a new person here, but plan on visiting often!
I live in Upstate NY and started Sugar Busters the first week in May, have lost 28.5 pounds so far! Am also exercising several time s a week including a Pilates class that I just started going to a couple of weeks ago. I started at 270 and plan to get down to 135 as a goal weight(something I haven't done since pre-children). I'm also using rewards at mini-goals, my 25 pound reward is a pedicure(I'm going on Saturday). I love this eating plan! I already weigh less than I did when I got married 2 years ago.
I hope that the scales were great for everyone today(2.5 pounds for me this week).

BEACH...good tip...I'll try to follow ;)
DEENA....where are you located?
SABRINA...I'll be interested to see if you liked that movie. I didn't at all. Glad you're having a good time...have you been down to SOHO yet? I just love that place!
MEL...that plan sounds really tough...no wonder you couldn't stick to it...glad to have you back with us!
Gotta run...

BOB, Debbie, or anyone,
I'd love to post a picture of the butterflies, the caterpillare (some of them are very colorful) and even the chrysalides, but when I tried to attach a picture, it told me that the image had too many bytes. How do I get the picture down to the size the 3FC page will accept?

Good Afternoon Everyone
Sorry I have been AWOL for so long - it's been about a month since I posted. I was doing so well for a while and was beginning to lose after being on a plateau for sooooooooooooooooo long. I'd lost about five pounds in a month but then went away for a weekend and ate off plan and off course gained a couple of pounds and that spoiled the momentum. So I decided to stay off the board for a while, knuckle under and keep up with Fitday, stay op and restrict those starchy carbs and see if I could get losing again. Well I am just back to where I was a month ago at 195.5 pounds which is o.k. considering that I was stuck at around 200 for more than a year. I think this is the lowest amount that I had posted - I had been down once a bit lower but of course not on WIW. So my mini-goal is to get into the 180's. I haven't been keeping up with my water intake. That is something I have to work on. I'm still keeping up with my exercise - badminton several times a week, line dancing and now lawn bowling for the summer months. It keeps me busy.
I see quite a few new people since I last posted. WELCOME to you all. Also WELCOME back all the oldies - Gator, Beach, Frog and Meliris.
Deb - I was interested in what you asked about the bacon as I have been doing mine on the grill and was wondering if there was any advantage over doing it in the pan. I just did a search and came up with one site that listed the values of grilling and frying and there seems to be very little difference. The main difference that I see is that the grilled has 0.7 gm MORE of saturated fat per 100 gm serving. Go figure. It's a U.K. site and here's the url: http://www.dbmc.co.uk/bacon_facts/nutrition_info_index.asp
Did you get anyone to start the board for you when you are away? If not then I would be able to do that for you. I may not be up at 6 a.m. but I am often up at 2 a.m.:). Hope you get the library job. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Woodfrogs - Welcome to SB. That is awesome that you have lost 28.5 pounds in your first couple of months on SB. I think you are wise to have mini-goals and it's good to treat yourself when you reach them. Enjoy your pedicure.
BOB - Lucky you getting sprung for jury duty. I got called a while back but luckily I was able to get out of it as I was going on vacation. Hope you are not in too much pain these days.
Gator - I love to read about your butterflys but not the caterpillars - yuck - I have to skip that part of your post  Hope your UTI is getting better.
Country - Love your new avatar. It's a beautiful picture. Glad you found a walking partner. It's alwasys easier to do if you have company.
Jack-K - Congrats on the 2 pounds gone this week. I am sure you will be out of the 150's soon. Just watch those weekends. :). We all know how they can screw things up for us.
Fillise - Have a good trip.
TeansyBean - So sorry to hear about your gm. That must have been very scary for her lying there all that time. Hope she is on the mend.
CherylCo - I wouldn't worry too much about the watermelon (depending on how much you ate of course :)) as a 120gm (about 4 oz) serving only has 6 gms of carbs and a glycemic load of only 4.3.
Beach - I liked your Tuesday Tip. Mini goals are the way to go.
Tranquil - Sounds like you are having a great time in NY. WTG for staying op. It is always a hard thing to do when away but you are proving that it can be done. It just takes some extra will-power.
I made the Peach Cobbler last week and it was scrumptious. Went and bought some more peaches to-day. I thought I would make it again to-day but then saw some cherries on sale so bought them so maybe have the cobbler tomorrow. Planning on making ZUCCHINI PIE for dinner with a salad, plus I have some leftover lentil soup that I made yesterday.
Have to get going. Doing laundry and the machine must have stopped by now. Sorry I can't get to everyone - I have been away much too long to catch up with you all.
Bye for now.
Marie.

Do you have a SCANNER or are you using a digital camera? The only way I know to reduce the size of a picture is to use PHOTO STUDIO which came with my scanner. If you don't find any other way to reduce it if you would like to e-mail me the pictures maybe I could do it for you.

WIW- I'm down 1 pound BUT I was a bad girl last night. I kept craving chocolate and even got moody about it(yes, it's the middle of TOM) and I went overboard and ate a snickers and a nestle ice cream cone- oh, and did I mention I ate some macaroni also?! I can't believe the scales weren't UP. Guess the 3 mile WATP tape is why. So I'm at 188.5. I took my measurements and since June 12th, I'm only down in my hips- but almost an inch so that's cool. My dadgum thighs won't budge!! I'm only 3.5 pounds less than I was at that time, too. So I need to buckle down and get serious. I believe if I stay committed and keep the exercise up then I should be able to lose 2 pounds a week. Right now my goal is to get to 184.
Jack-k--- 2 pounds is great! You'll be in the 140's before you know it. What is your goal weight?

Hi there!
Almost time to go home. Thank goodness. It has been so busy this week. I need more hours in the day.
No big plans for tonight. It is storming again so will probably have to forgt our walk unless it clears us later. Need to go to Sams Club to get some bbq for Sunday. It is DH's birthday and I will have all the July birthday's in our family at my house. Fun.
Gator, it is so hard to keep up with the exercises especially during the summer, but I know I have to do it or else. Hope you like your haircut.
Lawyer, just hold that goal in mind and you will reach it. It is nice to have something in particular to work for. Helps keep you focused. The weekend is past and you have the next few weeks to look ahead to. I'm really glad I don't like beer. I have enought trouble with the "other stuff". I feel like beer is more sugar filled and fattening than the other stuff, at least that is what I tell myself.
Crystle, Don't worry, I'm waiting for you to catch up. How great that you found a walking buddy. That will help alot.
Woodfrog, Welcome! I'm glad you decided to join this great group. You are doing wonderful so far. I think rewards are a good idea. I started that way, first new pj's a new purse, then as I lost more and more, I rewarded myself with new smaller clothes. Good luck.
Bob, I'd be glad I didn't get picked. I could never do jury duty. I am too easily swayed. I really don't think Kroger is a big deal. Guess b/c I shop there always.
Rosalie, I'm glad you are back with us. You shouldn't stay away cause you go off plan. We don't care. That's why we are here to encourage and support. Glad you are back to your low. Being under that 200 # is a great feeling. I'm sure you will get to your goal. Just stay here with us.
Have a great OP night.

Just checking in - another OP day....I did not bring my scale....and so I am letting next WIW be the big surprise....for lunch was the inside of a turkey sandwich without the bread and a few sweet potato fries....I woke up late, so breakfast was past....
Bob - Soho was the first place I hit! The Sephora there is my favorite, since it was the very first I had ever been to...Panangs is a wonderful Asian restaurant there - as well.....I did not watch the whole movie - it was awful!
JackK - Cool Beans on your WIW!
Got to run, a movie to catch! Sabrina

:) Just a quick hi! I'm busy trying to get ready for my trip and keep up with work. I have to go out of town for work both tomorrow and Friday, so I'm not sure I will have time to post anything but quick hi's!
Congrats to everyone who did well today on WIW. Rosalie you've done great. I remember when you were struggling so long to break your plateau.
I'm at 179. So being OP is really working. I still have 39 to go before I make goal and then the real work starts of trying to stay around that weight!
See ya'll tomorrow.

Confused?!?!
Greetings, I am a transfer from Atkins. I was on Atkins for 8months and lost an amazing 10 lbs. I'm hoping Sugar Busters will fit into my lifestyle alot better. Anyway, the only SB book I could find in my small town was "SB for Kids". So, I'm having a lot of confusion on the program.
My question is: I'm not sure exactly how to know if I'm doing the program correctly, do I go by GI, carbs or added sugars? Also, if I have a salad for example do I eat Low - fat dressing ( higher carbs) of regular dressing (higher - fat).
If anyone has any menu samples, I would appreciate seeing them.
THanks!

Afternoon all-- WIW was good to me this week, I am down two, and that only leaves 2 to go for the big 100 pounds lost!! I can't wait!! Then I would love to lose 15 to 20 more, but I am just going to keep on keeping on!! I plan on eating this way the rest of my life, so when it comes off, it will!
Congrats to all of you big LOSERS out there!! May all of you be losers next week!!
Cherylco--Thanks for the kind words, I went in again this morning and she is doing super!! They think she will be out of rehab by next Wed. at the latest. Could even be this Friday. I told you she was a go getter. She just amazes me.
Fillise-- I know you won't see this, but have a safe and happy trip!!
Deb-- As to the casings for the sausages, yes we use them. There is a shop here in town that carries all kinds of that stuff. One of my fondest memories is that every year on the day after Thanksgiving, my folks, and all of my Aunts and Uncles would get together at Mom and Dad's. We would have a big old fire going in the shop, and would spend the next three days making sausages. They would hamburger a whole cow, and a whole pig! All different varieties. Sipping hot buttered rums when it got too cold, and smelling the sausages cooking in the smokers!! Yum, yum!! I wish we could all still do it. But it wouldn't be the same without Dad and Grandpa!! What is Broward?? I see you go there alot. I am from the opposite side of the US, remember??
Jack-k-- Wooo Hooo girl, you are doing GREAT!! I would kill to be in the 150's!!
Gator--THANK YOU!! That makes it real easy! I do plan on ordering some Agave Nectar, but want to see if I can find some around here first. Would I just use the same amount? The recipe calls for 2 T honey and 2 T molasses. Should I use 4 T apple juice?
Amhlawyer-- If you had a great time eating over the 4th and stayed the same, hats off to you!! That is sooo much better than a small gain!! I am sure you can do the 5 pounds, before your trip. I am in eastern Wash. state, but I love the coast!!
Country-- It is so nice to have someone to walk with. I wished many times when I was walking that someone would join me. But they never did. Now I am into the Total Body Trainer and doing weight resistance. I just crank up the tunes and enjoy it!!
Woodfrog--Welcome to the board. As you are finding out, this is a wonderful WOE. I too started out weighing 270 pounds. I did PP for a year and a half, but am really enjoying SB. I have 2 more pounds to go to hit the 100 pounds lost mark!! Hope that you will post often, and I look forward to getting to know you!!
BOB-- No, he didn't have to wear a halo. They went in from the front of his throat!! It was a very easy surgery he said. He had to wear a sponge like neck brace for a while, but that was all. The surgery wasn't too long, but because of his arthritis, they had quite a bit of scraping to do once they were inside. I hope if you do have to have the surgery it is as easy as Ted's!!
Rosalie-- Thanks for the warm wishes for my Gram. She is mending pretty darn fast for her age!!
Heart-- Hey, a pound is a pound. I take them all no matter how small, he he!! Hope that it will be two for you next week!!
Tranquil-- May those scales be down a bunch for you next week!! Way to go staying OP all this time!!
Will try and get back here later, if not..... Sweet dreams all!

Teensy, yes just use the same amount of liquid but make it concentrated apple juice. It it ends up tasting too sweet, use the same amount of liquid, but dilute the apple juice. The purpose of the sweetener is to give the yeast something to "eat." Even diluted apple juice will work, but the bread probably won't rise as fast. It will also help if you use the quick rise yeast. Good luck.
Ghost--I saw your instructions re. reducing the bytes on my pictures. I use a digital camera, so I will try taking the butterfly pictures on the lowest resolution. The camera I have is 3 pixels, so it is high resolution to start off with. Hopefully we can get something on the board.

Hi GATOR, have you tried cropping your image in iPhoto? If there's any background that you could get rid of, that would be one way to make your pictures smaller. Also, I'm guessing that you don't have any program like Photoshop or Graphic converter. If you want to email me the image, I could make it smaller for you and then email it back to you. Let me know if you want that help. Here's my email: kgalati@cinci.rr.com
BOB, okay, I'll slow down. I made the mistake of sitting on the couch tonight for five minutes. I woke up an hour later! You keep cracking me up about Kroger. Did you know that Paul works in the big high rise they own downtown??? Today they were giving away Prime Select ice cream sandwiches. He gets all the treats!
JACKK-WTG on your good weigh in. Keep going, girl!
ROSALIE---Welcome back. Congrats on beating that 200 plateau. You are safely and solidly below that number now. So keep going!!!
COUNTRY---I love your new avatar. What a beautiful picture!!!
To the rest, take care and keep marching toward your goals!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Evening Everyone:wave:
Had a really nice day out with my yoga teacher. Took her to all my usual "spots" up in Broward and she was happy. For those of you who are new and don't know what the heck BROWARD are, it's the next county up from where I live, in DADE, about an hour away. One of my fav. restuarants is up there and lots of great shopping as well. Ask any of the gals who've come stayed with me here and they'll tell you as well!
Took the test for the job at the library last night and so did 46 other people! I doubt I'd get it. It's the perfect job, perfect amount of hours, not too far from home and probably too perfect for me to get! Can only wait and see, just like the other 46 are doing!
HEART, CONGRATS on your loss, despite your small discretions last night. Remember, it takes 3500 excess calories to gain a pound and that did do it. I heard about that shooting on the news, on the web, all over. You have to wonder what the heck is so bad to make someone do something like that, it makes no sense whatsoever! It's worse when you hear people say after the fact that he gave so many signs he was capable of doing what he did. Doesn't anyone pay attention to things like that, hasn't anyone learned anything from things in the past?
COUNTRY, sounds like you are doing well. Hey, I made some soup too, and it's even edible!!!;) Your's sounds a lot better though. Nah, DM's just fine to do Atkins is she so does desire, she has to worry more about her cheating more than anything else! It will remain to be seen if she does. I don't worry about it all that much. That's great you found someone to walk with!
BOB, thanks for not sending over those storms my way, was a nice day here, for once. Keep those storms, small showers you can share;) Did you ever check out your local library for movies to rent? Mine has so many now, I had to get LAUREN a library card just so I can put more on hold, I have the limit of 15 on mine alone and have a ton of others to put on as well. They really are getting them in like crazy. I have WINDTALKERS in route, so will be watching that one soon. Glad they didn't pick you for jury duty!
QUILTER, whoa, you are a powerhouse with the way you are working! Don't tire yourself out, you need a lot of energy to have a good time with all your friends. Can't wait to see the pic of all you looking alike in those dresses, I'm sure they came out great and you are going to have a fantabulous time, as always!:D
MEL, glad you liked the article. Like you, I too am an all or nothing person, there's never just a little for this gal!
TEENSY, CONGRATS on your loss this week, awesome:cp: We'll be doing a happy dance with you soon!!!! 100lbs is so close, aren't you just dying! Do you can any of your veggies? I wish I could grow something <sigh> I hope your GM continues to prove daily. It's good that she wants to be on her own and all but sometimes they have to learn that they may need some help. My grandparents are having a hard time right now and my GF is taking the brunt of my GM and neither of them want any help hired, so my Aunt is coming from NC to help out-they may end up wishing they'd hired someone! Thanks for all the info on the sausage, you got me hungry just reading! I should e-mail you the recipe for the Lebanese sausage. It uses lamb and pine nuts among other ingredients. Did you see above, about Broward, to answer your question?
TRANQUIL, hope you and ZACH had a good time at the museum and lunch. You'll have to give me some pointers on where to go when we get there for the day trip to see NYU. Talk to you soon! Keep up the great work, can't wait to see your next WIW results:) What movie did you see?
FROG, so glad to see you doing well. Each day will get easier as you know. CONGRATS on the new crib! Sounds like you got a really nice house and I just LOVE wrap-around porches, esp. on old homes. Honestly, I do hope one day to have an old home, they have such charm! CONGRATS to DH on his promo!!!!!
JACKK, WOO HOO! Down 2lbs, awesome:bravo: You'll get under the 150 mark soon, don't you worry! Sorry non one showed up in the chat room last night. Sorry I couldn't be there. I hope to be there next Tuesday. I have a meeting at 7pm at SB with the board from the school but doubt it will be going on at that time. I do hope to make it as I won't be at the next 2 chats thereafter due to going away. Yep, any reason to go to Broward, I'll take it. That means OLE OLE!
GHOST, you'll have to post your recipe when you get a chance, though you can leave out the part where you leave it on the hot stove-top;) Have to ask, how did you come up with your member name? When you get a chance, if you'd like, you can go to the BIO BOARD and post some info on there. It's always nice to learn a bit more about our board members:)
BEACH, thanks for posting your TT! I've not only missed you but missed the wonderful efforts you always made to post useful information as well, like you did today. I totally understand about the job, and of having one. It's so hard to find a job, period, but in Miami, it's even worse, with almost all the jobs having the requirement of being bilingual, those few Americans that are left down here are having a tougher time at it.
GATOR, I'm hoping next week to be able to get in some morning exercise now that LAUREN is done with camp, but then, it will only last til Friday because we'll leave for a trip on Saturday. I may try to walk when we go to my cousins but I'm not going to kill myself trying as I don't know the area too well and it's quite easy to get lost in the streets around there. Hope you can figure out the pictures, I can't help, I'm electronically challenged!
LAW, CONGRATS on being able to stay the same this week on the scale with all considering. Sure better than a gain. So I see you're going to STARBUCKS COUNTRY! You eat that carrot cake and enjoy it!!! Birthday's only come around once a year - thank goodness!
WOOD, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign3.jpg Glad you've decided to join us. My family is from upstate NY, Rochester-love visiting there, esp. WEGMANS!!!!!!!! I love that store! Sounds like you are doing very well on SB so far, CONGRATS! I think it's great to give yourself mini rewards, you'll well deserve them! Keep up the great work and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have, we're all more than happy to help!!!
ROSALIE, so glad to see your post, we've really missed you and in fact, just the other day I mentioned to JACKK on the phone that we hadn't heard from you in so long. Thanks for the bacon link, though I didn't quite understand it. What the heck is a RASHER? Geez, first SPOTTED DICK and now RASHERS. Do the people in the UK know English??? LOL!! I can't believe it would be MORE to grill it, it just doesn't seem possible. I wrote to GWALTNEY'S but they haven't responded as of yet. They may not know the answer either. That is so sweet of you to volunteer to start the boards for me, I so appreciate it. I was hoping, since you'd done it in the past you may do so again since you're familiar with it. 2am would be just as good as 6am-anytime would be great before 8am, if you can. I will e-mail you all the info for the boards before I leave - THANKS!!!!!
LUCKY, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign3.jpg hope you didn't mind that I copied your post here. OMG, I can't believe that you stayed doing Atkins for so long and lost so little! I'm sure you'll find SB a lot easier to follow. I guess in answering your question you could say all 3, GI is important, but isn't everything, carbs, knowing which ones to eat, keeping the starchy carbs to 2-3 a day and watching added sugars and keeping them to 3grams or less per serving are all important. Check out RYSSA'S site for some generalized SB info at http://www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters. Do try to get a copy of the book if you can. If not at your library, a used copy on the web is pretty cheap. I'd say I would go with the dressing with no sugar and watch portions.
Geez, I do believe I finally caught up. If I missed anyone, you know it's not intentional. Will check in tomorrow morning!
Nite, Nite!

WOW, last to post first to post. Have nothing to say, unless you want to hear about my sleeping habits:rolleyes:
Was able to post a load of new recipes on the RECIPE BOARDS this morning. Had TOTALLY forgot to start the new quarter boards and no one noticed or said something, so they are up and running and filled with quite a few recipes. I was happy to get them out of my filing cabinet. Still have a ton more to share with you all, well, well over 30 of them, at least!:D
Have a great day and I'll check in later!

Hi Everyone
Selah has been really sick all week. I hate taking her to the Dr, because I don't want to give her antibiotics unless it is absolutely necesary. She's gotten a little better and her fever has gone done. It never went over 101, this AM it was 99.2. SHe has been so grouchy and teething still on top of it. And now I'm getting sick myself.
For those who were commenting on Selah's 'spot' it isn't a bald spot. I wish that is all it waS!! It is an actual open sore on the back of her neck that is seepiong and gross. It is starting to get better, but I still think it isn't from her Exema.
I immagine you won't be hearing much from me in the next 3 weeks before the wedding, because it seems to have taken over my life. I'm having fun though, and it's going to look incredible. I'm just reaaly tired.
I loved DEBBIE'S article on cheating. That is how I try to look at it. Everytime I eatsomething that's not 100% OP, I tell myself this is my life, and this is my decision for today. I don't expect to give this up for the rest of my life, but I don't expect to eat it every day either. If I do eat something like that every now nad then, that little 'detour' or 'cheat' is what makes this a lifestyle and not a diet to me. The fact that I can choose to eat something and not kill myself over it, because this is my forever plan. Anyway, I have been treating it like a diet because of the wedding, but after that I don't really car if it takes me 3 months or 3 years to get dowm to my goal. My goal is to eat healthy for life, not to have a certain weight on my driver's license.
DEBBIE You never know, you may be jsut waht they need at the library. Good luck!!!
COUNTRY I made black bean soup for dinner last night YUMMM!!!
TEENSY I can't keep anything alive. Pets or Plants. Maybe you could give me some tips!!!
FROG The house sounds awesome!!!! I love old houses. We rent, but our last house was a 1929 gingerbread looking beauty. I loved it, but it was way too teeny for having a baby.. Now we are in a 1 stry brick built in 1946. All hardwood, small porch but nothing else really cool except the vintage pink tile all over the bathroom (Yuck, I hate pink!!)
JACKK SOrry about the chat. I was helping Hannah move into her new apartment. I would have rather been chatting with you than lugging boxes up 3 flights of stairs!!
WOOD & LUCKY Welcome to the board!!!
GATOR I open my pictures up in the Paint program, under accessories. Hit Ctl +W, of select stretch/skew under Image in the toolbar. The picture size is 100% and just take it down little by little until it fits in the pixel requirements. To check the size open ATributes under Image in the toolbar as well. I hope that helps some :) Can't wait to see the pics!!
ROSALIE Good job at breaking the barrier!!!!!
Has anyone heard from Monet?? She's probably on vacation or something. I jsut can't keep track, but I need to go to her Harry's because mine STINKS. I always loved the one by me till I saw how much more her's has stocked! Oh well.
Gotta go check my girl.

Good Morning All
Deb - I was tempted to explain what a RASHER was in my post but thought I would wait to see what you had to say about it.:) I see you will never forget about SPOTTED DICK. As you have probably guessed by now a rasher refers to any slice of bacon. The most common bacon sold here, and I think in the US as well, is what the English refer to as STREAKY BACON. Just e-mail me the info for the boards and I will start them for you.
Teansy - Congrats on being down another two this week. That is awesome that you will soon be celebrating 100 pounds gone.
Talitha - Sorry to hear that Selah has been sick. Hope she is better soon.
Have a good day everyone.
Marie.

Good Thursday Morning.
Goodness gracious, it has taken me an hour to read and get this post together. Someone keeps interrupting me with work. The nerve of them. Don't they realize I have to do this board first. :s:
Did get my walk in last nite. Late but got it in. I found some bbq at Sam's Club that only has 3 grams of sugar. It is Byrons. It is really good to. Nice to have something different. Now if I could only have a hamburger bun to put it on.
Tranquil, I am so proud of how great you are doing with your eating while on vacation. WIW will be a pleasant surprise for sure. When you you come home?
Beachfan, DId you make it to goal the first time? Sorry I can't remember. I'm sure those 39 lbs will come right back off. Have fun on your vacation.
Teensy, :cb: Great going on the 2 lbs and then only 2 more for the big 100! That is awesome. It is wonderful that your GM is doing so well. She is a spunky lady.
Kim, that couch can get you. I'm better off not sitting down at all. Hope you are high and dry. All that flooding is horrible.
Deb, have a little confidence. I bet you get that job. Personality counts alot and you have a lot. Will have to check out some of those recipes.
Talitha, hope Selah is feeling better soon. Nothing worse than a sick baby that can't tell you what's hurting. I would show the Dr her sore on her head. Maybe a dermatologist. Just think of lugging those boxes as exercise. Try to enjoy the wedding, It really is lots of fun. I love your attitude about this WOE. I agree 100%.
Rosalie: Hi  have a great OP day.
Better get busy before the boss comes back by.

Just popping in.
Haven't been able to keep up too much with the board. I HAVE been posting on the exercise board tho.
I had a bad weekend eating way too much cheap chocolate and high GI foods. I felt crappy for a couple of days. I managed to eat 100% OP for the past couple of days, which for me is a real feat.
I've been pretty good with exercising. 4 out of 7 days last week and so far this week I'm 3 for 3. Did something to my knee again with the lunges and squats last night, but thank goodness it was near the end of the workout, so I got pretty much most of the workout in. Put ice on it right away and today it feels pretty good. I wasn't in the mood for my Power 90 cardio the other day, but instead of doing nothing, I did the elliptical.
So I think I'm getting there gradually.
I'm going to attempt a few replies:
DEBELLI--Good luck with the library job. I worked in a library for 15 years. I think you would be perfect for the job--you've got a great personality. What kind of stuff was on you test? Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
ROSALIE--I was wondering where you had been. I thought maybe you were on vacation and I had missed you posting about that, since I haven't been here too much myself. Very happy for you getting over your plateau.
TALITHA--Sorry to hear Selah isn't well. Poor wee angel. I hope she's all better real soon.
FROG--WOW! You've been a busy lady! Now you have to take time for yourself. Nice to see you back.
WELCOME to all the new people on the board! I post here very erratically, but this is a wonderful place for support and information.
HELLO to all I missed
Gotta go, but I'll keep popping in now and again.

Debbie, I don't think Rissa has SB info on her web site anymore. Check it out. I couldn't find it.
Got a 1.5 mile walk in this morning. DH walked with me but had to shorten the walk because he had an early meeting. I had 2 scrambled eggs, a piece of melon and some stir fried broccoli for breakfast. Unfortunately, I could not find any western melons, so the one I had had good flavor, but soggy texture, due to all the rain we have had in FL.
I still haven't heard from Monet.
Debbie, did you ever get to see Solshine?
Hope to take some pictures today, if I find some good butterflies. The caterpillars inside have started preparing to go into chrysalis. They stop eating and climb up on the branches I put in the bowl and attach their tail end to the branch and then kind of lean back and form a slight "J" shape. After about a day or so they shed their skin in one quick motion and, voilŕ, there is a slightly different looking thing, minus the spines or hairs of the caterpillar. The chrysalis then slowly darkens in color. After about a week or 2, one day a new butterfly emerges. It is really fascinating to see it. It is hard to imagine the caterpillar turning into something so different looking. Like the rainbow, it reminds me everytime that there is a God and that He is alive and well!! :)
Gotta go do chores. Have a great day, all.

Hey All:wave:
Taking a quick break from cleaning in the kithchen. Figure I'd get things done today so my DM doesn't have to deal with a pig sty and I won't have time to do anything much tomorrow. I had no plans today, so what the heck.
TALITHA, sorry to hear SELAH isn't feeling well and now, you're getting sick. Guess if anyone is going to get it, it's going to be good 'ol Mom! I hope SELAH'S head gets better, doesn't sound good. If you don't get the results that you want from the Dr., I'd take her elsewhere. Maybe some of the nurses on the board know something, if they are around. I liked how you think about cheating as well as you liked the article. Pop on when you can between now and the wedding, we all understand:)
ROSALIE, nope, will never forget the SPOTTED DICK!!!! Heck, here in the US we just call bacon, bacon, at least of what I know. Never heard of streaky bacon. Will e-mail you next week with the board info - thanks again!:D
JACKK, if personality got the job, I think I'd of been a shoe-in. That's from looking at the other applicants. BUT, it was only the test, no interview. Tomorrow is yoga which is at that branch, so I'm going to see if the head librarian is in and maybe ask her her opinion. Who knows, maybe I flunked the test!
ZANNE, that's great you've been posting on the exercise board, good for you. Sorry to hear you had a few off days there, but glad to hear you were able to get back on track, and quickly at that-care to give some hints for the future? The test, putting numbers in order by the DDCS, alphabetical, etc. It was 4-5 pages, I think. Guess I'm still waiting and seeing - won't hold my breath. Hope your knee feels better - BE CAREFUL!
GATOR, just checked her site and it's all there, all the SB stuff. Not sure what you found, but you had me wondering there for a minute. No, I haven't heard a thing from SOLSHINE yet. We are going to O-town this weekend. We have only Saturday night free to meet up and honestly, I don't know how we are going to feel. ELI is suppose to close the store Friday night, which means he won't get home til 2-3am, getting up to leave at 5am, so he probably won't sleep AND what I really am not happy with is he wants to take his car in to the shop and get a loaner and drive that up to Orlando, which means, I won't be able to drive it, and THAT I don't like because he'll be so tired, he'll be driving worse than usual! That's sorta why there are no positive plans and why I didn't try to see if we could plan something with you and VESNA, I just thought it would be best, just in case, to only have to screw up one persons weekend plans, if you know what I mean. We may be sleeping like dead people come 7pm-!!!!
BOB, as I said to GATOR, I just checked RYSSA'S site and had no problem finding the information on SB!!!!
OK, I finally got to Rissa's SB site. I could not click on the hyperlink to get there, but had to copy and paste the URL in the web address space at the top of the page to finally get there. Also, I had to use IE as the browser, and that worked.
Try that, BOB, and see if it works for you.

A quick note: Hope all are doing well! I am still 100% OP and going strong - the weather here has turned chilly and wet - we saw Pirates of Carrib...LOVED IT!!! So much FUN!!! My favorite Disney ride - and cannot wait for Haunted Mansion to come out Thanksgiving - meanwhile drooling over Johnny Depp! Off to the Met today and lunch....will have salad....I cannot believe I have finally broken the Popcorn problem! I have gone to the movies twice now and had NO popcorn! Better run, Sabrina

Hello everyone:
This is going to be a totally "selfish" post, and I apologize. I haven't had a chance to read any posts yet, but I hope to later. I am unpacking and into load 3 of 7 loads of laundry (yuck)! I also have to get to the grocery store; there is no food in the house, plus clean up the house and the truck.....need I go on?
Anyway.....we got back from vacation last night. It was a good time for all of us, just a long drive with kids. Although the kids were great. We travelled 16 hours our first day home and 12 the second, and they both did fantastic. I can almost expect that out of our 5-year old, but not our baby (who will be 1 year old on Friday....Happy Birthday, Delaney). They are troopers.
I stayed as on-track with my eating as possible. On the 4th, I had some food I normally wouldn't and even had some cookies. I also had a sub sandwich and chips on my daughter's birthday celebration we had the day before we left. I also had a whopper jr. from Burger King one day, and a few no-no's here and there. But overall, I did great. Remember, I was worried about maintaining? Well, guess what? By the last few days of the trip, my size 8's were getting really loose. I weighed myself this morning and was 126.5. I lost a few pounds while we were away. I couldn't believe it. I bought some size 8 shorts at Lerner New York a few weeks ago that hardly stay up; I'm going to have to take them in and exchange for a 6, I think. Wow, I never thought I could do it. I AM EXCITED! I have gone down from 152 pounds at the end of February to 126.5 today. I am meeting with a personal trainer at my gym in the next week or two, and she will take my measurements. The last measurements I had taken were the beginning to mid-March; I'm dying to compare.
I REALLy missed checking in, and can't wait to get caught up on everyone. I hope you are all well.
Take care!!!

Deb, I seriously doubt that you flunked the test. Your kids hae to get their smarts from someone.
Tranquil, :cp: for the popcorn!
pancho, Glad you had a nice vacation. Happy birthday to your baby. Wow you have done great with the losses. Great having clothes that are too big.

Just a quick post. I actually have the house to myself right now. Hubby is working and the kids are at my cousin's. I've eaten too much fat today. NEVER go to the grocery store hungry. By the time I got home I was ravenous. This morning I ate an orange and a peach(doing good) THEN I went to town and ran errands, etc. By the time I got to Walmart, my stomach was really growling. I ate a twin pack Slim Jim(17 g fat) that didn't help much. So after I put the groceries up, I heated a bowl of leftover chili up. While it was in the microwave, I ate a slice of cheese and 2 slices of roast beef. At least I'm not hungry now, lol. Supper will be hamburgers and salad. Anyway, I feel kinda bad about me not exercising today. I plan on going out this evening and already have my makeup on so I don't want to sweat it off and have to get ready all over again. Never thought I would ever feel weird/guilty about NOT exercising- I think that's a good thing. Question- for those of you who weigh between 160- 200-- about how many pounds does it take to loose a dress size? I was wondering since when I first started at 270 pounds, I was a 24. It took 25 #'s before I could wear a 22 and then almost another 25 before I could wear a 20. Now I'm in a 16 and I was just wondering how much weight it would take for me to get into a 14. Well, I better get off the computer and do something with my life today.

Hello All:
Weather was crappy, did not feel like battling for parking places or spending so much at the garage - so we did not do the museum today - instead we went to see Legally Blonde 2 - silly movie - blahhhh, same old jokes.... Then I took Zachary to a Japanese marketplace where he bought a bunch of school supplies and his Japanese models he likes to put together.... I went to a Low Carb Market I found - little tiny store - and bought Aunt Gussies choc chip/almond biscottis (s/f) and another cookie made from soy/splenda - 3 carbs per cookie....not bad. Going for a walk after dinner now that the weather is fine - but it is so nice and cool out! Tomorrow I am going to meet a friend for lunch that I have not seen in 17 years! We have kept in touch through mail/email, but have not ever had the time or chance to see each other - she has her hands full with twins....so I am looking forward to our lunch. Tomorrow night is Little Italy for dinner (will behave, will order eggplant and sauted calamari..no pasta, no bread), and then we will be walking through Chinatown...will see if there are any more cool school supplies we can get there as well.... Hope all of you are doing well...BB4 does not sound too good BOB, I have not had a chance to see it, will wait till next week...Adios Amigas! Wondering where ELI and LAUREN ran off to, esp. since he's in his skivies and not dressed to go anywhere. I'm praying he's not STUPID, okay, they just walked in. Thought he took her driving in the rental:eek: Glad I was wrong, she ran in to get Pepsi while he waited in the car. Well, I do pray he's not stupid, but...he's a man, need I say more??
LAUREN made chicken and FREDDIE, ELI'S son is coming for dinner, so now I'm really glad I cleaned up, not that he hasn't seen the house a mess before!
Found some fresh figs here - YUMMY!
ZANNE, if mine stays clean for 24 hours, I'd be a happy camper! A week clean, the only way that ever would happen is if I cleaned it up right before a weeks vacation!! I try, but I can't do it alone!
JACKK, if you mentioned it, I didn't see it, but where in FL is DD going to be and for what? You should come too!!:D I think once MICHAEL is in college the kitchen will stay much cleaner, not to mention the kids bathroom - LAUREN can't wait. I do have to say though, MICHAEL cleaned their bathroom today, and didn't do all that bad of a job, for a boy, and being a teenager!
HEART, tomorrow's another day, always remember that, but do make sure tomorrow comes;)
BOB, hmmm, not sure about BB4. I'm not a die-hard fan like you are, won't get upset if I miss a week. I think that's pretty nasty about the X factor though. What I don't understand is how they found people who wanted to come on the show and how the heck they found people who's ex's wanted to come on as well - weird if you ask me, I mean, out of 8 people they have 5 who's ex's signed up for the show as well? Some looked surprised (the ex's) and some didn't. What's your take? NOW, if you ask me about AMAZING RACE, I do love that show and hate missing it!!! Don't you remember when you came down, kitchen clean for arrival, messed up and didn't care after that-it's the first impression that's important, after that, who gives a crap! Yes, alas, the dining room table is hiding under a lot of crap!!!
TRANQUIL, have fun with your friend - hope you have better weather. Sounds like you'll need a U-haul to cart all of your finds home!:lol: Tell me how the eggplant comes out, and if your DM liked it! {{HUGS}}
Gotta run!

Just a quick but important question--is sugar alcohol (say 12) but sugar (0) bad for you? All the sugar free stuff at the grocery store has sorbitol and (0) sugar and lots of sugar alcohol. These sugar free cookies look awesome--little windmill almond goodies. They are made w/enriched wheat flour. Are these legal?
I am down to 113 from 119. Love this diet!! I mean WOE!!!
Enjoy your evening! I'm about to have some red wine, crispy granny smith green apple slices, whole wheat crackers and 2 year old aged cheddar cheese. Who needs dinner w/the above and a great sunset????

 Hi Everyone
Just came in from traveling to LaGrange, Ga for work. It was a 5 hour round trip with meeting in between. I always wish I had more time when I go to places to see the sights. Usually it is a quick in and out because I have meetings to go to. Also, a lot of the time I have no choice what to eat so I couldn't be OP today. They had club sandwiches on white bread  After eating the sandwich I was hungry all day! That is what happens when I eat white carbs that have high glycemic index.
We'll we're getting ready for our trip and leave this weekend. I will probably have a quick chance to check in and say hi tomorrow and then I'm gone for awhile. I will miss the board but am glad I'm getting away.
Gator[/B] have you shared your great ratatouille recipe with the new folks? I cook it all the time and think of you and the tiger meat joke. Remember, Deb thought it was really something we would eat! I love eggplant and it is the best.
Deb Have fun on your trip.
:flow1: Everyone else...check out this months Reader's Digest. It has a great article on the glycemic index called Switch Off Your Hunger. It list 5 simple rules to beat hunger but then says actually one rule will do: Lower each meals overall score on the glycemic index. The 2nd rule is to be wary of white. Under this section it points out why you should not eat white bread potatos etc. but it does say there are 2 exceptions (dairy and pasta). It says most pastas GI is only 40 compared to high fiber bread of 53. What do ya'll think about eating regular pasta? I know I have kept it in my diet when I could not find the ww and I still lost and didn't have the hunger. Of course I only eat a small amount because it is a carb....usually I only eat 1/4 a cup. The 3rd rule is to eat healthy fat i.e. olive and canola oil, nuts, cheese and peanut butter and oily fish. The 4th rule is to eat lots of fiber (I take Citrucel pills), the 5th one is to snack smarter by eating peanuts instead of white carbs or cheese instead of candy. The article is too long for here but you may want to check it out because it simplifies the idea of the GI.

Way to go on the weight loss!
Why isn't Vodka legal? Is it distilled with corn or something?
I hate wine. What alcohol is legal besides wine?

Good evening all my SB friends--- It was so hot today!!I elected to stay in and clean my house!! Tried to work in the flower beds for a few minutes, but that didn't last too long. Picked 2 more cucumbers, and am seeing lots more coming. Squash is starting to bloom. The lettuce is coming like wild fire. Been taking lots to friends and family. (I knew we should have only planted 1/2 a row!)
Grandma is doing very well. She still amazes me!! And the Drs too.
Gator-- Thanks again for the info on the bread. I will definitely be trying the apple juice. Both hubby and I love the way this bread turned out. I really was unsure, because most recipes call for Vital Wheat Gluten, but this one didn't. It is really good!!
Deb-- I sure hope you get the Library job, sounds like it is just what you want. When will you find the time?? Seems like you are on the go constantly. When the tomatoes come on good my Mom and I will be canning Salsa, Stewed Tomatoes, Tomato Juice, and maybe chili sauce. I don't know what I am going to do with all the beets (since I won't eat them now). But we planted lots of potatoes too, and we just give them to the family. Dh hasn't even been wanting any....he has lost 15 pounds doing this with me!! The Lebanese sausage sounds good to me. Dh won't eat lamb though.
Talitha-- I hope that Selah is feeling better soon. They are so precious, and it just breaks your heart when they aren't feeling well. Stay well, and don't run yourself down!! Regarding the pets and plants....food and water, that's about all I can tell you!!
Rosalie-- Thanks for the support!!
Jack-k-- I know what you mean about the hamburger buns. I finally found some at the Wheat Montana Bakery. Dh and I each had a burger that night, and then I rebagged and froze the rest. Don't want to eat them all up at once. These are so WONDERFUL!!
Pancho--Welcome home, and CONGRATS!! I bet you are on cloud nine right now. :cloud9: Wonderful!!
Heart-- Don't now about the rest of you all, but with me it is between 15 and 20 pounds. When I started at 270, I couldn't even get into a 28W pair of jeans, then when I lost 15 pounds I could wear them. I am at 172, and wearing a size 12 in Rider Jeans. I am between 5'5" and 5'6". (When I measure myself it is 5'6", and when DH does it, it is 5'5"). Hope this helps.
BOB-- That image you included in your post reminds me of my boys!! Lol.
Tranquil-- Have a great lunch with your friend. I just got back in touch with my best friend from high school. It is priceless!! And we still sit and giggle with each other on the phone, just like we did back then!!
Ladyp-- The way I understand about the sugar alcohol is that it is like fiber, and passes through your system. So has no impact on your blood sugar levels. When I was low carbing, we didn't have to count the sugar alcohol grams. The cookies with enriched wheat flour is not okay. It needs to be 100% whole wheat, or Stone Ground WW. Way to go on the loss!! Good job.
If I have missed anyone I apologize, it is not intentional. Sweet dreams friends........

Good Friday Morning Everyone:wave:
Was having a funky dream and the phone rang once and woke me up - hate when that happens!
Today will be a fairly busy day for me, trying to get ready for tomorrow and LAUREN'S preformance tonight. Looking forward to getting away this weekend, though I can't believe next weekend I'll really be getting away. Next week is busier than I'd like and I'm not looking forward to all the things I have to do! Forewarning, I may not be on the board as much as I have this week, though I hope I'm wrong.
I can't wait til tomorrow!!!! I wonder, since it's general seating, doors don't open til 11am, if I should attempt to get there really early, or not. Has anyone gone to see JOHN EDWARDS that can give me some insight? I KNOW THIS IS TRIVIAL, BUT WOULD YOU ALL THINK SOME GOOD THOUGHTS FOR ME TOMORROW AROUND NOONISH THAT HE PICKS ME TO BRING A MESSAGE TO???? May sound corny, and I'm not a praying type of person, but hey, it sure can't hurt!;)
Did anyone check out the recipes I posted yesterday???
Okay, off to the posts...
LADY, usually try to stay away from stuff that has sugar alcohols in it, I just try to stay away from foods that have preservatives in it. Our bodies don't know what the heck to do with some of these things that the mfg put in to foods, but that's just me. Do remember, sugar alcohols DO have calories, so you have to think about that. Here's a site that you can read for more info, and a poem that I thought was cute enough to post for all to read:
Ode to Sugar Alcohols
If sweets are the bane of your diet
And sugar causes insulin to spike
There's a substitute, and I think you should try it
Especially if sweet chocolates you like.
Sugar alcohols are the saviors of pleasure
Because they don't count as carbs, don't you see?
You can eat them at your own leisure,
Just be sure you have the bathroom door key.
Here's a link to the site, just click on it : SUGAR ALCOHOLS (http://www.lowcarb.ca/tips/tips010.html)
Read it, and then decide for yourself:) I know which cookies you are talking about. You can try and see if you don't have any trouble with them, just watch that you don't eat the whole box, like me. CONGRATS on doing so well - can't remember, how long have you been on SB now?
GATOR, do you have plans to meet up with MONET while she's in FL?
BEACH, have fun this weekend, and I hope you have great weather! Get a tan, not to mention a picture. I remember the last picture I think I saw of you was at the beach:D Will have to get my RD, I got it but haven't even taken it out of the package. I must have over a dozen magazines I've yet to be able to read and they're piling up each day it seems. Thanks for the heads up.
TEENSY, too bad DH doesn't eat lamb, it's delish! My life isn't ALL that busy that I couldn't work, trust me. I just fill it up with other things that aren't so important. It's only 19 hours, nights and weekends, the times that would be best or me - after this many days of not hearing anything, I'm not hopeful:shrug: Wish I could give you an idea about the beets, I don't like them at all and the only thing I ever use them in is for coloring when I pickle (or try to pickle, I should say) turnips for ELI. Sounds like you have bumper crops sprouting up all over!:D
Have to go wake up LAUREN so she can get ready. She's not coming home after camp so she has a long day ahead of her, like not home til after 10pm - she's such a trooper and I can't wait to see how she does in the show:D
Have a great weekend everyone, will check in later!!!!:D

It's FRIDAY FUNNIES and here's my contribution!
QUICK THINKING
Father O'Malley answers the phone:
"Hello, is this Father O'Malley?"
"It is"
"This is the IRS. Can you help us?"
"I can."
"Do you know a Ted Houlihan?"
"I do."
"Is he a member of your congregation?"
"He is."
"Did he donate $10,000 to the church?"
"He will."

An elderly man walks into a confessional. The following conversation ensues:
Man: "I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Yesterday, I picked up two college girls, hitchhiking. We went to a motel, where I had sex with each of them three times." Priest: "Are you sorry for your sins?"
Man: "What sins?"
Priest: "What kind of a Catholic are you?"
Man: "I'm Jewish."
Priest: "Why are you telling me all this?"
Man: "I'm telling everybody."
******************
BROTHEL TRIP
An elderly man goes into a brothel and tells the madam he would like a young girl for the night. Surprised, she looks at the ancient man and asks how old he is. "I'm 90 years old," he says. "90!" replies the woman. "Don't you realize you've had it?" "Oh, sorry," says the old man. "How much do I owe you?"
***********************
SENILITY
An elderly man went to his doctor and said, "Doc, I think I'm getting senile. Several times lately, I have forgotten to zip up." "That's not senility," replied the doctor. "Senility is when you forget to zip down."
***********************
PEST CONTROL
A woman was having a passionate affair with an inspector from a pest-control company. One afternoon they were carrying on in the bedroom together when her husband arrived home unexpectedly. "Quick," said the woman to her lover, "into the closet!" and she pushed him in the closet, stark naked.
The husband , however, became suspicious and after a search of the bedroom discovered the man in the closet. "Who are you?" he asked him. "I'm an inspector from Bugs-B-Gone," said the exterminator. "What are you doing in there?" the husband asked. "I'm investigating a complaint about an infestation of moths," the man replied. "And where are your clothes?" asked the husband. The man looked down at himself and said,........ "Those little *******s!"
***********************
Morris the lover
An older couple were lying in bed one night. Morris, the husband was falling asleep, but the wife felt romantic and wanted to talk. She said, "You used to hold my hand when we were courting."
Wearily, he reached across held her hand for a second and then tried to get back to sleep.
A few moments later she said, "The you used to kiss me."
Mildly irritated, Morris reached across, gave her a peck on the cheek and settled down to sleep.
Thirty seconds later, she said, "Then you used to bite my neck."
Angrily, he threw back the bed covers and got out of bed.
"Where are you going Morris?" She asked.
"To get my teeth!"

Well, I got my 2.5 mile walk in this morning. Got back home at 9 and it was getting HOT. Gotta hit the street by 7!! But I hate to get up early.
One of the caterpillars has gone into chrysalis stage, and the other 2 are just hanging out, stationary, on the branch in the bowl. They will probably shed their skin sometime today and go into chrysalis. Contrary to what many people think, they do not weave a cocoon. Some worms and moths do, but butterfly caterpillars go into what might be called "dormancy" and they shed their skin, under which is a different looking layer, which is the chrysalis. I took 2 pictures this morning, one of the chrysalis and one of the caterpillar, but something is not working right on the digital camera, so neither pix "took." I'll get my DH to work on it this evening.
Debbie--Monet and I were going to try to meet during here trip. I gave her my phone number. They were thinking of coming over to Lake Mary where her SIL lives. They probably will be there a day or 2 this weekend, if they come. That's just up the road from me, so, of course, I'm hoping they can work it out to get there. If so, we'll get together. So far, I haven't heard from Monet.
Beach--Thanks for the kudos on the ratatouille recipe. When we were in France, our cook there fixed some for us. So I had authentic French ratatouille. It was pretty much like mine. I actually fixed some last night and it was good. Nothing like good "summer vegetable stew."

Good Morning All
It's a dull wet morning here but looking on the bright side, I don't have to water my flowers to-day. I'm running a bit late this morning as I slept in and have a few chores to do before heading out to badminton. I'm pleased to report that I am down two pounds this morning to 193.5. I know it will probably fluctuate up and down again during the week but it is still good to see that new low figure.
I've found something new for breakfast. I was browsing around the HFS yesterday and came across Arrowhead Mills RICE & SHINE whole grain rice cereal. The only ingredient is Organic Brown Rice Grits. I had it for breakfast this morning and it was yummy. Someone was asking last year for a recipe for rice pudding. I made this in the microwave with 1% milk and it's the closest thing I have had that tasted like old fashioned rice pudding. There's a recipe on the back for rice pudding with eggs added and baked in the oven but it was fine just nuked with milk. I had cooked up some dried fruit to have with it but ended up eating the rice on its own and then eating the fruit. Didn't need any sweetener on the rice.
Zanne - Keep up with those exercises. Whichever kind it is, is better than doing none. Hope the knee is better.
Pancho - Welcome back. Glad you enjoyed your holiday.
Jack-K - Enjoy your week of 'empty nesting'. ;).
Heartmom - It's always a problem to go to the grocery store hungry. If you don't end up eating too much of the wrong stuff you will probably end up spending too much money. At least that is what happens to me.
Tranquil - I saw Legally Blond 2 the other day and thought it was absolute crap. If I had known that my friend thought the same way we could have left and got our money back. Although I heard someone say their 14 year old dd saw it and laughed all the way through. Enjoy your visit with your friend to-day.
Beachfan - Thanks for the info about the Readers Digest article. Unfortunately it is not in the Canadian edition but I have seen other articles in newspapers and magazines which talk about low gi eating. It's good to see that this woe is becoming more mainstream.
Gotta run. There are still some posts that I haven't time to read. Will try to get back later. Have a good day everyone.
Marie.

Boy am I mad.  . Just wrote a long rply and hit the refresh button by mistake.
No time to rewrite it.
Heartmom. regarding your ? on the dress size. I am a size 8, but yet I still weight 153 lbs. I think that is unusual. I contribute it to walking and working out with wts as why I am in a smaller size.
BOB, DD is going to Destin with a friend and her family. Hope you hear fromt he Dr soon.
Tranquil, have fun catching up with your old friend. That is neat.
Deb, see post to BOB about DD. Got a laugh about Eli in his skivies. That's great that Michael will clean the bathroom. No matter how good he does it. Have fun this weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. I'm sure Lauren will be the star tonight.
ladyporshe, that word "enriched" is what makes it illegal. Most SF cookies have enriched flour. That soribtol can keep your running to the potty.
Beachfan, thanks for the tip on the Reader's Digets. Going to check it out. Have a great vacation.
Cherylco, can't tell you why vodka isn't legal, maybe Deb can, but didn't think it was. Tequila is made from agave, so thinking that may be the best choice. Just don't know what to mix it in. I have bought SF margarita mix off the internet and it was great.
Teensy, My niece in Maryland found me some buns and I froze them and use them sparingly. But I would liek to be able to find some here.
Rosalie, congrats on the 2 lbs. Hope they stick.
Got to run
Have a great day.

DEB- I'm so jealous!! So who are you wanting to contact?
I'm actually down 1/2 a pound from WIW, go figure. But I'm puffy in the face today- go figure again. I didn't think about height and body type when I asked about sizes. Guess that has alot to do with it. I'm 5'8" and carry more weight in my thighs and hips. We went to our local lounge last night and I ran into people that hadn't seen me in awhile. All the compliments made me feel good. I told a couple how much I weighed and my size and they said I looked alot "less." Hehe, you should have seen hubby when HIS friends were making comments. He's so jealous. Right now he's in the bed sick:( he has sore throat, chills etc. I hope he's not getting the strep throat thing I had a couple weeks ago. Well, I need to go and check on him.

I'm hanging at 202 now. been trying to get below 200. You said it took you a year to get under 200. Were you honest to God 100% by the book legal or were you mostly legal?
Did you do anything different to get below 200 or it just finally give up and go away? LOL

Salad dressing: according to the book low fat dressings usually have more sugar. You want a dressing with no added sugars (that includes high fructose corn syrup) or less then 3 grams of sugar. Of course the best way to go is no sugar. I usually don't worry about calories (maybe that's why my weight loss is slow). I'm not in a huge rush to lose, just want to eat right, be healthy. I'm in this for the long run.

Well... I'm checking in... and it's taken me like 4 hours to read everything with this stupid computer messing up!!
LAURA - When I started SB, I was 205-210 pounds and a size 20/22. If I'm not mistaken, it was only 6 months later I was 175 pounds and a size 14/16... so if you do the math I lost 3-4 sizes in about 25 pounds...LOL does that make sense? The funny thing is, I got all the way back up to 200 pounds when I fell off plan the last few months, and could still wear some 14's and 16's. I'm in a comfortable 16 now at 194. I'm 5'8" and am very busty and 'hippy' carry most weight in the waist to knee section all the way around (except I have no butt, it's all hips and thighs). Does taht help? I'd say 15 pounds drops you a COMFORTABLE size if you're built and lose like me.
As for that... I didn't make WIW, but I'm down from 200 to 194... so 6 pounds in a little over a week back OP. I did cheat one day and had some pizza, BUT... I DID NOT use it as a reason to stay OFF plan, I jumped right back on... I think I have my motivation back!!! WOOHOOOOO!
I have found some Lite 'n Lively SMOOTHIES. It's sugar free yogurt, only made into a drinkable smoothie form. I take them to work when I want something sweet, like a milkshake... down it goes! The BERRY is the best, but peach mango is great too! I got tropical for the kids, and didn't try it because it has pineapple in it, although I'm sure the amount in there is not enough to do much to me... :)
Well... I'm off... this computer is driving me nuts, as I type... I only see the line about 3 sentences back, and it shows the letters as I'm typing ... it's ANNOYING!!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend, and stays OP!!! :D

Hey All:wave:
Just got off the phone with BOB! It was a nice surprise to get a phone call from her:)
Went to yoga today, didn't stay for relaxation or meditation, too many things to get done and that saved me a half hour.
Usually I don't look at the various e-mails I get from diet sites I get, but I happened to open one of them up today and found an interesting article about a book called FATTITUDES What name! Anyhow, there's a SELF-TEST on there that, for Monday's poll, I want everyone to take and then report their numbers, which will be listed on the poll. I'll post the link to the site and the test on Monday, it takes less than a minute, nothing too intense for a Monday, I promise! Anyhow, I reserved a copy of the book from the library and hope it comes before I leave for DC/MD so I have something to read in the evening.
Anyhow, from the website, there was some interesting information that I thought I'd post for you all to read...
Understanding Fattitudes
A fattitude is a thought or pattern of thinking that leads to self-defeating behavior in weight management efforts. Fattitudes can lurk in the dark corners of your mind, exerting a powerful influence over your behavior and choices, even though they stay out of sight. Having hidden fattitudes is a lot like boxing with the Invisible Woman: You can't see the punch, but you sure can feel the pain.
How do you know if you suffer from fattitudes? Here are some common symptoms:
You can't seem to stay on track with healthy eating
It feels like there's a war raging inside your body and mind
Your exercise habit lasts only a few days or weeks
Just when things are going well, something "happens" to knock you off course
You want very much to slim down, but losing weight makes you feel anxious
You sabotage your own success
Sound familiar? Unfortunately, fattitudes are so common they can be considered the universal obstacle to healthy weight management.
Some of the more prevalent fattitudes include:
"I know there's a quick fix out there, I just haven't found it yet."
"This will never work."
"If I could just lose this weight, everything would be all right."
"My eating is out of control."
"I don't have time to exercise."
Fattitudes can even show up in intimate relationships, causing couples unwittingly to work together to ensure failure:
"I need my partner to be fat (or weak or dependent) so s/he won't leave me."
"If you can't control yourself, I'll do it for you."
"Let's focus on your problems so we don't have to look at mine."
The only way to achieve lasting success with weight
management is to find and foil your fattitudes.

Empowered Eating
What is empowered eating?
Empowered eating is a guiding philosophy and life strategy that can restore a sense of stability to all who struggle with food. The core of empowered eating is a combination of three eating attitudes:
· Responsibility
· Mindfulness
· Purposefulness
Empowered eating means that we recognize our own ability to take charge of life, that we are in the driver's seat and can give ourselves credit for our successes and accept fault for our failures. It means nobody else can do it for us, and if we don't take the lead, nothing will get done. In addition, the empowered eater strives to be fully aware of feelings and issues that are associated with eating behavior. It means we tune into our internal lives so we can better understand why we do what we do. Empowered eating also means learning to view all eating as goal-directed and as the result of a decision making process.
We make choices; choices don't make us. We can choose to eat low fat; we can choose to indulge in sweets; we can choose to restrict our caloric intake below a level that's healthful. It's up to us. Our choices reflect our goals, our priorities, our attitudes, and our emotions. Our choices are complicated by the influence of both conscious and unconscious factors, so what we decide to do and what we decide to eat may not always make sense to us at first glance. At times, our eating goal may be simply to nourish our body and provide fuel, but at others the goal may be purely emotional and aimed at psychological coping. If we understand the purpose of our eating, even the most chaotic of food frenzies can be made comprehensible.
Being an empowered eater doesn't mean you never again overeat because of emotional stress; it does mean, however, that when you do overeat you're at least aware that you're doing it, and hopefully also understand why
Some really GREAT information!
VERY EXCITED! Was surfing the web in regards to nutritional information and happened to stumble across a website with a couple unusual products. Called the company as I wanted to look in to this a bit more in depth. Got a call from one of the company owners who's name, I totally forgot. He was very helpful and informative and said he was going to send me out some samples to try to test in different foods so I could give a more in-depth review of them. As soon as the information/samples arrive, I'll be happily sharing all the info with you. Yeah, I know, I'm a tease;)
Okay, now for some replies...
GATOR, I hope that MONET calls you-you'll love meeting her, she's very sweet and the way the two of you can cook already makes you a great pair!:) Good for you for getting in your walk, you're a lot better than I!
ROSALIE, http://members.aol.com/debelli/woo_hoo.jpg What wonderful news to see your post and that you lost another 2lbs and are seeing a new weight! BRAVO:bravo: :cp: Hmm, will have to see if my HFS has that RICE AND SHINE. How does the taste compare to real corn grits? I've seen soy grits, but not that.
JACKK, I gave LAUREN your good wishes for her performance tonight. It amazes me just how confident she is-can't wait to see her! Hoping DD is having fun in Destin, has she called yet? OMG, ask BOB about ELI, ask TRAQUIL and SERENE about ELI-if you don't live with it, it's funny as all heck, but when you live with it, you try not to laugh-it incourages his odd behavior!!!
HEART, I'm hoping my GM will come through. I've read some things to dispell that he can do this but what the heck, I do believe it in because she's come to me once in the past, so to each his own. Heck, just looking forward to getting away with ELI alone for the weekend!!! I agree, some people carry their weight better than others. When I met ROSALIE I couldn't believe that she weighed as much as she said she does, I would think she was 20lbs less. Me, I carry my weight all over, but mostly in my stomach, I think. Good going on not only the extra 1/2lb, but in receiving all those compliments:D
LUCKY, I'm sure a few people will be happy to post a menu or two for you when they get a chance. As for the salad dressing, I guess you need to look first for the type/flavor you want, then read the labels. The dressing I buy has no added sugar at all, it's not really fattening at 6grams of fat per 2tbls, esp. since I only use 1tbl. I'd go for the dressing that has no sugar included with the least amount of fat. I recently tried the Walden Farms french, and I particularly don't care for French, and I really like it! No sugar, no carbs, no fat! Okay, duh, I can show you what I've eaten so far today:
2.8oz fresh figs
1oz fiber one
2oz soy milk
1 hb egg
1 tbl sf ketchup
3oz chicken breast
.3oz lf mayo
2.0 endive
1 sf jello cup
Not sure what dinner will consist of yet, maybe a potpie, but I'll probaby go make a salad in a few with 2-3oz of mixed greens, tomato, etc. with some dressing.
GHOST, you are THAT crazy about DW Haunted House? You all must be so psyched about the movie coming out. Glanced at the site for a moment - SPOOKY!!!!!! So, tell us a bit more about your passion for the HH!!!
BETH, fantastic loss since you've been back! CONGRATS!:bravo: The L&L Smoothies sound good - what are they sweetened with? That gives me the idea to make a smoothie, I have yogurt, fruit and stevia - yum! Hope you get the computer fixed soon.
Well gals, it's a bit after 4 down here and this will probably be the last post til I get home sometime Sunday evening, probably won't be back on til I come to start the new board on Monday morning, so with that, I hope you all have a wonderful OP weekend. I'm planning on staying 100% OP. With TRANQUIL not only finding the time to post while she's away, BUT, with her staying OP as well, it's a testament that if you want to do it bad enough, it can be done and I'm gong to follow in her footsteps and make sure I don't waiver one bit:)

A quickie for Debbie before she leaves on her trip.
Deb - I'll be sending good thoughts your way tomorrow and hope something comes through for you. It certainly isn't trivial when it means so much to you. Good luck to Lauren with the play tonite. They were some good FF's you posted, particularly the one about the 92 yr. old. I did look at all the recipes you posted. You were a busy gal yesterday. Most of them I am afraid to try at the moment as I am trying to keep those starchy carbs down. Maybe when I have lost a few more pounds I will give some of them a try. Sorry I can't compare the Rice & Shine to corn grits as I have never tasted corn grits. It's not something we eat up here.
Have a good weekend.

Hi Everyone
Teensy - I do eat beets occasionally although I only eat them pickled. I don't think their gi is too bad - it is 64 - and a 3 oz serving only has 6.7 gms of carbs and a Glycemic Load of 4.3. I read somewhere recently that a glycemic load of 10 or less is acceptable.
Jack-K - Doesn't that tick you off when you lose a post like that. I usually type mine in using word and save as I go along so if anything happens I at least would have some of it saved. Although I have lost it all in the past. Sometimes I just forget to do it. :(
Heartmom - I started at 240 lbs and by the time I had lost 40 lbs I had gone down three sizes. I am 5ft.71/2 inches. I now usually wear a 14 top and 16 bottom depending on the brand. Some 12's (bottoms) I can wear and then some 18's are too snug.
Lucky - Here's one sample menu. I always use regular dressing although I don't like too much dressing. I don't like the taste of the low fat ones apart from the fact that they have added sugar.
Oatmeal 1/4 cup (dry)
Milk - 8 oz 1%
Back Bacon - 3 oz
Two fried eggs
Tomato
Oatcakes - 3
Fruit spread - 1 tbs.
Cheddar cheese 1 oz.
5 oz Chicken breast
Salad with lettuce, 1/4 cup raw carrots. celery, cucumber.
Coleslaw dressing - 1 tbs.
Orange
2 tbs almonds (with chicken salad)
Yellow split peas - 1/4 cup dry made into soup.
Half cup canned peaches in juice.
Will try to post a couple more menus later.
Cherylco - I was never 100% totally op. I started this woe about 3 1/2 years ago when I weighed 240 pounds. I lost about 10-15 pounds fairly quickly then stalled for a while then started losing again. It will be two years in September that I first got down to 200 pounds and have been going up and down ever since. I think for me the biggest problem are the starchy carbs like bread, pasta, rice etc. I started off with Montignac then went over to SB because of the support boards. Although they are basically the same woe SB does allow more starchy carbs, although I know the menus in the book are for maintenance and not for losing. I think Montignac is clearer about what you need to do to lose compared to mainaining. Anyway Deb suggested that maybe I wasn't eating enough and referred me to a web site where you could figure out how many calories you should be taking in for your present weight and activity. I started again using Fit-day and aimed for about 18-1900 calories a day. (The website had recommended 1998 calories for me to lose.) Anyway I did Fit-day religiously for several weeks and made sure I took in enough calories but tried to get most of them in by dinner time. I tried to keep the carbs to about 40% of my daily calories which would be about 180 grms daily. Most of my carbs came from veggies, fruit and legumes. I would have starchy carbs in the a.m., usually oatmeal or oatbran cereal and maybe snack on oatcakes in the p.m. if I needed to get the calories up. Maybe once a week or so I would have pasta and occasionally I will make a dessert like the peach cobbler or apple brown betty. I frequently eat lentils and beans. Anyway after doing this for a couple of weeks I started to lose. I've really been good lately with not snacking too much in the evening. I find as long as I take enough calories in by dinner time I don't usually need to snack. If I do feel like something in the evening I will have a piece of fruit or maybe some peanuts. So if I can just keep this up..........
Beth - WTG on losing 6 pounds this week.
BOB - That beef hash sounds good. How about sending some over here, I don't feel like cooking tonite! You'd better wait and see if I get the board up and running before you get the SB badge out.
Well I'd better get off of here and go clean up the kitchen.
Byre for now.

Boy am I tired!! The appraiser never showed up at the old house, so I took some time to clean up a few things over there and move some more of the few items that were left. Then came home to start unpacking more boxes. Later 2 friends showed up and held me arrange the living room and make it "manly" for Mr. Frog. Want to create a "log" feel for our fly fishing and winter interests. They did a great job!
Welllllll..... that took ALL day and I am wooped! Waiting now on a little dinner. Have had a good week, only cheated with some hush puppies, a piece of gum and a well earned cocktail!
Am now wearing a LOVELY :o set of upper and lower retainers in to correct a rearrangement of teeth since my braces came of along time age. Feels like I have braces all over again. Thank Heavens we can eat pimento cheese b/c soft sandwiches are all I'm interested in!
DEB - Didn't see your posts regarding John Edwards! Good luck with that!

Good evening evryone,
It was a good day in the SB dept anyway. My sister had an emergency appendectomy last night, went to see her, she's all doped up and sleepy....
But, I did well with my food today, and went to the gym, did the strength training circuit and 2.25 miles on the elliptical machine.
And it's our anniversary on Monday, so we're sort of making a weekend celebration out of it. Went to dinner tonight(ate a popover), and we're going out again tomorrow night(fancy dress-up dinner and dancing), but the menu looks do-able, and I'll walk on the treadmill in the morning.
It's so wonderful to hear how everyone is doing! This WOE is definitely easy to maintain, and the rest of my family doesn't seem to mind some of the changes at all. I actually look forward to getting on the scale, even at 241.5. I weigh less now than when we got married 2 years ago, wish I had done this then!
Have a great night everyone,
Barbara

 Hi Everyone...
Well I had to travel again today for work so once again my lunch meal was in a 4 hour meeting and not much choice. I did get to chose the grilled chicken sandwich and just didn't eat the bread.
Deb have a great time and my thoughts are with you. I may be able to check in first thing in the morn but then I will be off.
Bob you'll do a great job. Are you getting excited for football season. I know when I get back from the beach I will be ready for the fall fun!
Well I have to run. I'm packing and washing clothes tonight. We have six people going and 2 cars so I will have to be very bossy to get everyone going and make sure we have everything.
Think about me while I'm away and send good thoughts that I will stay OP!

Gorgeous day here, like a nice Spring Morning in Florida - too bad this weather won't be able to be packed up and travel with me. On the road this afternoon back to Florida - long trip! I will probably sleep in Virginia this evening, and then early a.m. drive the rest....
Yesterday I had ww toast slice for breakfast, a ww turkey sandwich with mustard only, and dinner was eggplant in Little Italy at Luna's - I did not touch bread or have any appetizers. We did a lot of walking!!! I am looking forward to a visit with my scale at home :)
Deb - Hope you have a wonderful time!
Rosalie - I agree the movie was stinky!
Bob - I had not heard about them taking down the Haunted Mansion, with the movie coming out this winter, I cannot imagine them doing so.... maybe they will just revamp it ... like they did to the Pirates a few years back?
Frog - that is not very Kosher, the appraiser not showing up! I cannot tell you how much I loved the appraiser who came to my house last - he was wonderful, left the house with a smile on his face, said everything is okay - and I got a great appraisal, felt as good as losing a pound! hahahaha!!! I just refinanced the house so that I could make repairs and remodeling...
Woodfrog - Sorry to hear about your sis! Hope she is up and bouncing around soon! My son had an emergency append last October...they sure don't make you sit in bed very long :o Keep up the good work with SB!
Lucky - I use dressings that have no Sugar - I have also learned to use less dressing on my salad - have it on the side to dip my fork into - so if it is high in fat - I don't get lots of it on my salad....
I think it is Walden Farms that makes a low fat/low cal/no sugar dressing...
Beth - Congrats on the 6 pounds!!!!!
Heart - That is great that you are losing - keep up the good work!
Time for me to get away from the computer and start my BUSY day - ughhhh - driving!!!!! 990 miles to go!

MORNING EVERY BUDDY!!!!
Let me first tell you that when Debbie and ELI get on the road to go somewhere, there is NEVER A DULL MOMENT!!!!
Their morning started out typical.....racing around to get on the road....Debbie was getting ready...put that dainty little foot in that panty girdle that she wears everywhere...caught her little toe in the elastic....AND KEPT ON PULLING....until she SNAPPED HER LITTLE TOE!!! That's a keeper....BROKE HER TOE ON HER GIRDLE!!!!
Then they pack up the RENTED TAHOE
and get on the road....ELI swears they have enough gas, :nono:
She should know better by now!!! THEY RAN OUT OF GAS...and they were 1 1/2 MILES FROM AN EXIT!!!!! She called AAA and they said under an hour.....when that passed..she called them again....thirty minutes.....called them again....15 minutes.....THEN THE STATE TROOPER STOPPED......I'm sure he thought they were DRUG DEALERS in that big blacked out windowed TAHOE!!!
HE ACTUALLY RAN THEIR INFO!!!! The AAA man FINALLY got there and they are now back on the road....They were just outside COCOA BEACH getting on the BEELINE!!!!! Keep your fingers crossed that they don't run into any more distractions!!!!
I can't top that story, my day will be putzing around the house...cloudy and looks like rain over here...SKEETER WILL GET A BATH!!!! Only he doesn't know it yet....I have to sneak up on him at some point during the day!!!
Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Hi Bob - Everyone must be out having a good time this weekend. I just got in a short while ago, was out browsing the shops but didn't buy anything. I saw a jacket I liked and almost bought it but the 16 was a little big and the 14 was too snug. Maybe in a couple of weeks I will fit in the 14. :flow1: I just picked up a book from the library called The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon so will be getting down to do some reading soon as I am finished on here. The dishes will have to wait. Let's know what you think of the movies. Did you hear anymore from Deb? Hope she got to the show in time.
Later.

Thank you for the detailed answer! Lately
have tried to limit my starchy carb to breakfast and eat none for the rest of the day. I love my breads and pastas! I'll be great it I ever get to the maintaining part!
I'm a big coffee drinker. Love coffee and I do drink it black with the Agave.
I read one book I think it's "Thin tastes better", caffeine can slow weight loss. So I have my regular coffee in the morning and if I have any the rest of the day it's decaffeinated.

Way to go on the exercise! Enjoy your anniversary weekend!
Lucky
This is a sample of how NOT to eat:
Don't eat till 1:30 so your cranky and starving
this was ok:
Greek salad vinaigrette dressing
WW wrap with steak & cheese onions and peppers.
Diet coke
filched onion ring from mom
7:30 pm
drop daughter off for overnight at friends
because I ate so late, not really hungry, just munchy.
Stop at dairy/restaurant to ask directions to health food store that has legal WW wraps. End up splitting a banana split with son. Never had one before and don't know what possesed me to eat one today.
Never did make it to the health food store.

Hi Gang,
I know I'm not ususlly on here during the weekend. Just killing some time before the family get here for the birthdays. All the food is int he crock pot and I'm ready to entertain.
Beth, glad you found your motivation. Congrats on a whole week OP. As long as you got right back op you are doing great.
Bob, soory, couldn't post Friday. things are so busy at work right now. Just took a quick minute to read the boards. Hope you have a great weekend. I don't know if I could pass up that cornbread. Yum! What a hoot about Deb and the girdle. Wish Eli had taken a picture of that. I bet he got an ear full when they ran out of gas.
rosalie, I had saved my replys in notepad so i was ok there, it was what I had posted on the reply page that I lost. I guess I should type everything on the notepad and then copy all of it over. Maybe you should have bought that 14 jacket for motivation.
Frog, hope those braces feel better soon. Just think how pretty you will be when they come off.
Woodfrog, Hope your DS feels better soon. Happy anniversary. Youa re doing great with your exercise. that wt will come off quickly.
Beachfan, Hope you have a nice trip.. Stay OP, you will feel good about yourself.
Deb have a safe and fun trip. glad you liked the show.
Tranquil, Have a safe trip home.
Need to go check the crockpots. Have a great OP weekend.

Rosalie--Thanks so much for mentioning Fitday.com--I had never heard of it and am soooooo excited about it. I just can't figure out how many calories I am supposed to be eating to lose. I left an email for fitday asking that question. We'll see if they respond.

Hi Everyone
Jack-K Hope you have a good time with the family to-day. I was thinking of going back to the store to get that jacket but I figured I have lots of time as it is new stuff that the store just got in for the fall. I do have a pair of pants that would go with it but who knows if I lose enough to fit in to the 14 jacket maybe the pants will be too big. :flow2: Maybe I'd better wait a few weeks at least.
Ladyporsch - Here's the
MENU ANALYZER (www.thedietdiary.com/diet/nutrition/NutritionLog.html) website that Debbie recommended to me. If you fill in your age, weight, activity level etc. they will tell you how many calories you need to take in to lose.

I'm on the computer late, but fixing to go to bed. I haven't exercised the past 2 days, although I did 4 days this week. Yesterday we went to a birthday party and I didn't eat any ice cream or cake!! I'm proud of myself, just had to share. My eating has been pretty good this weekend. You all know that weekends can be my downfall- not this time. Anyway, I noticed my undies were getting big so I went to town today and got a smaller size in the underwear and get this, I wear a 38 in my bra band width now!! It's been years since I've seen that. Unfortunately, I'm smaller in the cups than I was a few years ago- oh, well. Also, my 16's are getting loose on me. You couldn't force me to go off plan right now. Even my mom made cheesecake today and I wasn't even tempted. Okay, I'm rambling- just a little excited that my motivation is back and I'm ready to start losing again!!
DEB- That kind of stuff is only suppossed to happen to me! I hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly.
BOB- Have you seen Phone Booth yet? We watched it this weekend, pretty good. Oh, THE HULK sucks. Really overhyped. And I didn't care for the Matrix Reloaded either, but 2 Fast 2 Furious was good.
