I hate the dark, I hate the cold, I hate the windchill!

It's so damn cold here right now, I could key cars with my nipples!:mad:

Thankfully I'm not in any DNA data base, not that I'll be out dragging the girls across car doors, just saying. :D

I don't have a point other than I hate the cold and the wind chill and the dark long days.

I totally agree! i'm always cold so the winter just chills me to the bone and I never get warm....I don't mind the dark but I hate the snow and the cold...

i'm born and raised in Alaska and spent the first 25ish years up in the Interior where winters dropped regularly to 60 below zero...then when I was 18 I moved to the snow capital of the state where we got more than 300 inches of snow each winter

down here in southeast Alaska, it's much better in terms of snow and cold but i'm STILL always cold :(

Add me to the list. I don't have it as bad as some do, but I still don't like it. I lived in a small mountain town in Colorado (at 10,000 feet elevation) and had 8 long years of heavy snow and cold winters.

Reminds me of a line from the song "What is Christmas" by Trans Siberian Orchestra...

"The reason for Christmas, I now realize, is an excuse to tolerate snow! Snow..... I don't even like the sound of it!"

I like winter fine, I just hate the dark. I end up getting SAD by mid-season.

Born and raised in the South, I would never make it anywhere further north. I hear there are people who actually *like* the cold????? It starts to drop below 40 and I get grumpy. I just lay low until I hear birds singing and see flower buds.

Another hater! (shcirerf, at you keying cars) Hate putting my motorcycle away for almost 4 months  hate that daily life is just more danged difficult, and everything takes longer, when the landscape is locked in snow and ice. And the loss of sunlight...aaaarrrghghghghhg!!!!!! At the worst, the sun dips behind a mountain right by us at 3:02 pm and the shadows start then.

p.s. I bought an electric throw and I look forward to crawling into bed with that more than, hmm, how about Hugh Jackman :D

I hate getting up in the dark and getting home from work in the dark. I hate the constant threats of "the worst storm ever" with every single day's forecast. Either it will be snow or freezing rain or freezing cold... blah blah and although it is only really two or three months... it feels like FOREVER!! Sometimes I really wonder why I live here.

I prefer the cold to sweltering heat, because it's easier to warm up than it is to cool down (at least for me). That being said, some days I just can't get warm no matter what. Hubby and are in a basement apartment so it's always a lot cooler down here than it is on the upper level of the house. I was laughing so hard at your nips Shcirerf.

I miss the "fat insulation" benefits from my old weight!!! I was just wondering WHY the other day I survived this long with this thin coat I've had since I was a teen - a cheapo terrible coat. Then I remembered that I had the greatest heater of all - excess fat LOL

I see one major benefit to winter - it kills off the really obnoxious bugs, which makes the other seasons really great. I learned to hate it a little less when I found my LLBean ankle-length down coat. So what if it looks like I'm wearing a sleeping bag outside? At least I can now go outside! And much to my delight, rechargeable heated mittens have finally been created. I have informed my family that they WILL get me a pair for Christmas. :D

As long as I don't have to go out, I really don't mind winter. Coffee, tea, soup, candles, the fire... they are all good! It also helps that we moved "south" from New England, and the winters are much more tolerable now.

Another thing is when it gets this cold I just want to eat. I'm not even hungry. Just cold but if I let myself I could eat and eat and eat.

I get like that too...I think my brain has its signals all messed up...i eat when i'm cold instead of recognizing that I'm cold and warming up....i eat when i'm stressed instead of recognizing that i'm stressed....i eat to relax at the end of the day instead of putting on slippers and getting out a good book...stuff like that...i'm really trying to be mindful of what i REALLY AM instead of just eating something to "fix it"

I am freezing. The only time I am warm is when I'm exercising and I hear you about wanting to eat. I think it is instinct to try and fuel the fire!! I wear so many clothes in the house I look polar bearish.

This is why Florida is awesome..... :carrot:

Seriously though, I really don't mind the cold and sometimes wish we could see snow for Christmas. Instead, the most I ever get is ice and that's if we purposefully make it on nights it gets to be below freezing, um, maybe 5 nights a year LOL.

80 degrees here today. Frikkin heat wave in December!

Oh and then there is the constant "head cold" threat that I actually think is caused by the cold weather. I think possibly that your body temp drops just a tiny bit letting head colds etc take hold. I have the threat of one now and all i want to do is eat eat eat. And yet... it jut hangs on daily.

I like winter fine, I just hate the dark. I end up getting SAD by mid-season.

This is me...since starting synthroid and taking vit D supplements its not as bad, i guess its not actually SAD. but the lack of sunlight really runs me down. But I dont mind the cold so much...and we are getting snow right now:D

I get the SAD as well. Once the temp drops and the light goes away, I get into a funk for a few weeks. Usually I push through it and get back into the gym once I adjust, but i still don't like it! :tantrum:

Yeah winter sucks. I know it's because of winter that summer seems so magical but winter always just feels like I'm doing penance for something awful I did in a past life.

Haha, unlike you all, I hate the summer! It's sweaty, there are too few clothes to cover any chub, summer styles are just ugly, and I never eat anything I really like.

Winter has such delicious low calorie warm and filling meals, wonderful layers with boots and peacoats, and there is no sweat :D

I'm in the same place Dee is, and I like it here, too. The dark can be a bummer, and we live on the north side of a hill, so I get NO direct sunlight in my house in winter (and I'm home all day). That can be tough. Having it be dark when I wake up and dark by dinner can also be tough. But it's not so bad, since I'm never hot during the winter and the sun glinting off ice is SO pretty :)

I have found a Eagle River winters much more manageable than Juneau winters, it's drier and sunnier here. Juneau was depressingly slushy for me tastes!

I live in a valley, so we get these temperature "inversions". It keeps the cold trapped. So, we've spent the past week or so with highs in the teens and low 20's. I think everyone has lost perspective. The guy on the radio said it wasn't too bad, that the temperature was 15. No, that's cold. It is still BAD!

I hate the ice, love the thermostat up, and ideally would go for three Snow Days a year ~ a time when all my kiddies get a day off from school, and I get a day off from Life. Not 30 snow days, not ice days, not hail days, not power outage days, not NO snow days. Three. One for each month of the winter. Am I spoiled or what? ;)

it snows here at the end of October and doesn't melt until April....unless we get a super warm spell and then it melts off, rains and then snows again...so far this year we've had a cold snap, then a snowstorm with up to a foot of snow, then another cold snap, now another snowstorm with up to 24 inches of snow expected...so far about 15 or so inches have fallen and a lot of rainy slush falling too...roads vary from slush to frozen slush and ice...i went out in the yard today and post-holed my way through the yard to try to fix a broken gate....that was unpleasant :(

the district WILL NOT call a snow day here despite having good reason to twice....their policies say they will call a snow day if sidewalks are not clear, forcing students to walk in the road...twice now we have had big dumps of snow overnight and no roads plowed, no sidewalks clear, drains plugged with snow so slush forms huge lakes in the roads...and STILL NO SNOW DAY!!

I hate winter, too! The dark makes me have no energy, and the snow and ice is just extremely, uhm, inconvenient. And the cold.... ugh, I can't stand it!

Luckily, this winter has been nice so far. Sad thing is, I want a white christmas because it just feels right, but it actually doesn't look like it's gonna happen this year.

Mis.er.a.ble here! So frakking cold (at least to me.) I'm comfortable outside only briefly in the Spring and briefly in the Fall. Honestly, I should just live in a biodome year-round.

Ha, this is me! I am in semi- northern Alberta. But as I read once; Canadians handle winter wonderfully, we look out the window at it! I drive out of my heated garage and as long as the car doesn't break down I am good to go!

For the record, I live in western Nebraska. As the crow flies I'm 10 miles from north east Colorado, 2 1/2 hours from Denver, and down I-80, 90 miles from Wyoming.

We had an early cold snap last week. Like, never got above 10 and add in the wind chill. And then, add in I spend part of my day working outside.

BRRR!

Plus my Dh works outside. Sooo, we both have the need for extra clothes. Layers, properly done keep you warm, but the amount of extra laundry is insane, since we both have dirty jobs.

Back in the 80's, I worked in an unheated warehouse, and in January, it never got above 0. Like to dang froze to death. Plus I grew up on a large farm/ranch. The cattle have to be cared for, does not matter how cold it is, you gotta get yer fanny out there, and feed, and take care of cold babies and mad mommies, etc. Tractors don't wanna start, horses don't wanna leave the barn, dogs hide behind the horse! We checked cows, for calving reasons, at 10 and 2 pm, and if it was too cold, we brought them to the house, and stuck them in front of the old propane stove in the basement, until morning. Then in the morning, ya gotta go round up the cow, get her to the barn, and pack the baby back to mama. By then everyone is tired, and cranky. Mama cow is stressed, baby is stressed, humans are exhausted. Thankfully most of the time it was a happy reunion.:D Sometimes it was a snorting, cow snot, I'll run your butt over mess. Thankful for good cow dogs!

Then, I marry a guy who picked up train wrecks for a living! After that, he picked up semi wrecks! Emergency service jobs. I got recruited more than once to go out and help. Not with the trains.

But truck wrecks. Yup, it's a joy to stand on I-80, flagging Indy racer wanna be's, in the freezing a** cold, for 8 or so hours, so the rest of the crew can transfer the load to a new truck, and clean up the mess. Not only do you dang near freeze, *dear driver, did you not see the lighted sign board a mile or so ago that said you should slow down, one lane ahead! * *Did you not see the 400 yards of big orange cones? Did you not see the person (me) in the hunter orange, waving to big orange flags? Guess not!* Then you had the nerve to flip me the bird when I threw my flag and hit your Caddy!

Never mind you dang near ran my b88t over!

Kudos to the state trooper who chased them down, and gave them a ticket!:carrot:

I'll take summer any time! Only need one tank top, one pair of shorts, or on days off, a sun dress, some bug spray and I'm good! Unlike today, long sleeved shirt, t-shirt over that, light jacket, then coat, jeans, then wind pants, wool socks, winter boots, mittens, stocking cap. Yada, yada, blah, blah!

And then, for the love of Pete. THe last dog I restrained had fleas, and then I have fleas crawling in my hair and down my light jacket! So I wash my hair at the vet hospital with dog shampoo, strip off my 2 shirts and jacket, toss them in the wash, pull on a scrub top, and now I'm chilled because we'd been working cattle in the back and the back door is hanging open because my boss is a dip and must be MAN o pausal! Or he just likes the smell of cow pooty!

However, all of that, it was a good day! My new granddaughter arrived about 6:30 p.m.

Emerson Paige, newest member of the family! Going to see her in the morning!:carrot::hug::D

Another winter hater here! I can deal with the cold as long as it is not below 20, lol. It's the wind though that kills me and the occasional ice and snow, which we are having today, ugh! We missed all that nasty stuff a week or so ago but we are having it today, blah!

Agreed. I just moved from a sunny state in the south to a much colder, greyer place up north. Although I lived here for many years, I'm having a very hard time readjusting to the lack of sun and the cold. It's really bringing me down and sapping my motivation to be active right now. I have been struggling with my activity lately. Even with a gym membership, I'm just not as active as I want to be. I prefer outdoor activity so much more than going to the gym. I seriously need to get my butt in gear! Luckily the sun and warmer weather will be back in a few months. I'm really looking forward to it.

I don't mind the snow, but the frigid temps I could do without. Also, the colds that people keep spreading are getting to me this season. Two colds back to back so far and it's only December. Even eating better and extra hand washing isn't helping....blah! I should also add, since keeping track of the sun/seasons ie: Solstice and Equinox, I don't mind the dark so much....because I know that come Winter Solstice, the days start getting longer again.

I know that I would like winter more if I wasn't trying to lose/maintain weight hahaha.
Certainly apple cider donuts and full-fat pumpkin spice drinks would help ease the "blahness" of winter time grey skies. I have been a lil lax sure, but for the most part, been waking up early so its super dark to get to gym, and generally more or less maintaining a decent diet. Therefore - winter BLOWS - LOL!

However, feels good to think I have a headstart rather than waiting for New Year's to start better habits
