CalCounter1003

Yes I noticed that. It's like she lost count because after number three, I think she says something about "after two you recover quicker".

I am on a 3 day field trip with some of my students who have made a project that they are presenting. Luckily it is in my home town so I can be home and exercise, eat breakfast and dinner healthy!
Anyway, when you eat lunch you are just sitting with random people. There are only a few schools there, and it is all business people (engineering, etc.) So today at lunch we were eating dessert and someone said they were going to walk around the convention center to walk off their dessert. And this man at the table said "Have you ever heard of HIIT?" and he pronounced it "H I I T", instead of saying "hit". Everyone (except me!) said no. Of course these last 5 months of exercising are the first I've exercised in 23 years, lol.

Anyway, he explained that you raise your heart rate for 30 seconds and you only have to do this 3 times in a session and 3 times a week and your blood levels will get in really good shape. (I didn't ask which blood levels). I haven't had my blood tested since May when I was told I was obese but my levels were all fine at that time (shockingly, since I had been eating candy every day!) I am going to wait until I am in a normal BMI range before I go back to doctor again. Of course, I won't be able to tell if the HIIT did it or the exercise, or healthy eating.

Anyway my point of this long-winded message is that he said 30 seconds! We all felt like it was too short. Or I did, anyway!

Every time I do walk strong with 5lb weights my feet kill me.(peripheral neuropathy). You'd think I'd learn.

I had to look that up, because wasn't sure what it was. That sounds painful. I have something where if I go over 4 miles the bottom of my feet hurt, starts with tingling and then progresses to pain. I first noticed it when walking outside on concrete. Now I only have it happen at home if I go over 4. So, I stop at 4! The weights don't seem to affect me.

Calcounter, you talk about the bladder.........I usually void before exercise because as soon as I start I feel it. What's with that?

LOL - I do too, but even with that, I still can't bounce! But I've decided that if I jog that is just as good as bouncing. Why can I jog and not bounce? Weird!

I did the 3 Mega Miles this AM and been running errands all day. I need to grade tonight and tomorrow all day after church! UGH!

I was given a FitBit One on Thursday. I started wearing it yesterday and today I looked at it after the 3 Mega Miles and was surprised it said I went 2.5 miles. I didn't think it would show much at all because most of it is walking in place. I figured it worked by movement forward only and there isn't a lot of that. But somehow it did pick up 2.5 miles.

Oh how fun! I'm like you I get excited about little things like that. I've had my New Balances since August and they are holding up well, but I was wondering how I would know if I needed to replace them because they have logged many miles by now. They still feel good though.

I am going to get some new exercise clothes, whenever I get to Target next. The exercise pants I bought back in July are really big now! (I can't BELIEVE that). They are just Target exercise pants, I guess called Yoga pants. Apparently in the 23 years in which I never exercised they came out with a lot of soft, fun, high-tech exercise clothes. :D I will probably purchase smaller bra and shirt too for exercising! TMI, sorry.

Four miles of the five mile burn fat DVD. DH did it with me, second time in as many months! He was having a lot of trouble, like with moving arms and legs at the same time, it was a little distracting but glad he did it. Said he would do it tomorrow. The only thing is I have started using one pound weights with most of the DVDs. So he decided he would do two pound weights. Then he found some ancient dumbbells that we had that are two pounds and he was swinging around those four pounds in each hand and I told him he was going to hurt his shoulders! After a few minutes he did put down two of them, so he finished with two lbs on each hand. I think he will be sore later. He rides his bike for exercise but only once a week but he over does that too and goes 35 miles and comes home exhausted and can barely move for days. :?: So annoying. Oh well, he's a great guy  but thinks he is still 20 when it comes to exercise.

You get on the floor in a position for 20 seconds and each day you had 10 seconds. We'll see. Hey friends. I have some bad news. To make a long story short, I have ruptured 2 discs in my neck. It happened Friday afternoon. I will be having surgery probably at the end of this week. While I was at the ER having my MRI, my husband got the call that his Mother had died, so we are dealing with that, too. Also, my older son is scheduled for knee surgery on Weds. and I had planned to be his caregiver through that.

My neck has me concerned as I had a fusion of two lower levels back in the late 90s. This new injury is in the upper part of my neck and the doctor said he may have to do a fusion of my entire cervical spine, which would leave me with a stiff neck. So, I'm pretty scared and also frustrated. Won't be exercising for a long while and I worry about gaining weight on top of everything else.

So I would appreciate your prayers and I'll check in as soon as I know any more definite news.

CalCounter1003
12-16-2013, 06:33 PM
Annie, prayers will be headed for you. So sorry. My school where I teach has a prayer list that is quite powerful. We just have four days of school left, but I'll add your name tomorrow.
What a lot to deal with. Just one of those things would be a lot but you have three. This is one of those things where you have to remember you are not given more than you can handle. Which basically means you are going to be even stronger after this.

Please check in when you can and let us know how you are doing!

Is there any more walking type workouts that are in 10-20 minute increments? I've been using a WW walking workout that has a 10 minute and 20 minute workout on work breaks. Hi gang. Carol, the first time I ruptured discs in my neck, I had yawned. This time it was putting a Pikepass sticker on my windshield. I think it had been coming on because I was having issues with numbness in my fingertips and weakness in my arms. In fact, the last time I exercised, I had trouble with the weights, but never thought of it being my neck.

We are through the funeral process and I go to see an associate of the neurosurgeon I saw Saturday. I will see the other one in the morning and know more about what we'll do.

Daireme, check Youtube....seems like I have seen some very short vids of Leslie doing a quick walk for those working, etc. A few of her DVDs also include a 5 (or close to) min. energy burst walk...not sure what they are, but know I've seen them.

Carol, we are hanging in there. On top of everything, including my son having knee surgery Weds. last week....my little Tootsie crossed Rainbow Bridge early Thursday morning. She was almost 15 and she had been acting "not herself" on and off, but certainly didn't think she would be dying this soon. We are just heartbroken about it, but glad she was able to go with myself and her Daddy right there with her. She was snuggled up against my back when we found she had passed.

Unless I can convince them to do it sooner, my surgery won't be until Jan. 7. I had thought we'd be doing it the day or two after Christmas. If I have to wait until 1/7, that will be two more weeks off work, worry about possible permanent damage to my spinal cord, AND will have to meet another $1000 deductible. Ugh.

Annie, oh my goodness, I am so sorry about Tootsie. Was she a cat or dog? So awful, especially with all the other news. I hope they will move the surgery not for not just the worry about spinal damage but for that deductible. Don't get me started on insurance!

I did the 3 mile party today. And it's a good thing because I ate a lot of cookies.

Hang in there Annie, some good news must be right around the corner.

Thanks, Sharon, I figure all the bad has happened and that things can only get better from here! I still have so much to be thankful for.

Tootsie was our little mini Dachshund, we got her when she was 8 weeks old for my (now 21-year-old) son for his 7th birthday. Although we got her for him, she has always been "my" girl and has been by my side through thick and thin. I've just been sick about it all.

This morning I did four miles of the 5 mile walk slim.
I also bought 5 Mega Miles from collage video and it arrived today so I'll try it tomorrow!

Annie, oh gosh, I love Dachschunds, so cute. I have never owned one,but my husbands uncle in Germany has always had one. I'm so sorry. It just hurts I know. When our dog died in August 2012 we got a rescue dog two days later. It helped with the initial pain but I think in many ways it just delayed the grieving. See message below to Carol.

Carol, Golden retriever puppies!!! Our Golden died a year ago in August. Cancer. We still miss himself and talk about him all the time. He was really my sons dog, whom he got when he was about 10 and he had just turned 22 and graduated from college when the dog died. Didn't have a good job yet and he was so down. Two days later we got a rescue lab mix. Great dog but was obviously abused based upon his behavior. But that dog won the lottery by having my son as his owner. He treats him like he is a royal dog and his girlfriend is just as bad spoiling the dog. They are getting him certified as a therapy dog and take him everywhere. When my son moved out he took the dog with him, so now we just have our little mix, part schitzu, part something else. I keep looking for golden puppies but I really have to wait until school gets out so I am home with it all day for a few months. DH has always wanted a doberman and we have never had the kind of dog he wants. It's always what the kids want. So we will see what we end up getting in the spring.

I did miles 2,3,4,5 of five mega miles.
This isn't a new one, but new for me. I liked it a lot and sweated a ton.

My son and his dog are staying here this week for Christmas (the rescue I mentioned last night) and the two dogs were running and playing and the rescue ran right under my legs when I was doing kick backs and I kicked him. He cried and then ran in his crate and wouldn't come out. Poor Baby. I got him out with treats and love and he seems okay now.

Miles 1,2,3,4 of the Five Mile Walk Slim.
I'm always carrying one pound weights now unless the DVD uses bands because it seems like I'm not working up a sweat unless I carry those.

Annie, thinking of you and praying you get a good answer and feel better soon. I know with surgery it will be a while. :(

Carol - I have been on thyroid medicine for such a long time now but I appreciate the suggestion, I wouldn't have considered even looking.
Cathy - Oh goodness!!! No anesthesia?!!! I tried the airbrasion thing without it once, they had to peel me off the ceiling, lol.
I hope I got the names right, my memory is so bad I can't remember my middle name most days.

4 miles -48 minutes, cardio kick - 25 minutes, 6 inch step - 41 minutes

Thanks, I really can't believe it myself! I've lost and gained it back many times over the last 25 years but haven't gotten this low since before kids. I really never thought I'd see the 150s again. The key has been the exercising. :carrot:

Since it's New Year's Eve I figured I'd better do the 3 Mile Party! Not that I party myself tonight, we are having a few people over but nothing wild.
