Hmm. I'll join in if I may since exercise has certainly helped my anxiety. If you bust it hard, your body can't find the time/energy to be anxious. That's what I have found.

Yesterday's workout was the ball workout in Supreme 90 (fantastic core workout!) and week 3 of Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred.

Today my plan is to finish up the housework at lunch, and after work I'm going to do a full body resistance workout. I ordered P90X3 yesterday, and am excited to try those when they come in. I love working out to videos- I get much better results than I ever did going to the gym.

I had a setback a couple days ago- I have had back problems for 20 years and Wednesday I started having sciatic pain in my back, buttocks and legs. I decided the prudent thing to do was take a rest day. I still had pain yesterday but decided to do a short workout anyway and just make sure I protected my back. Today I do feel better and hopefully can do my regular workouts.

Dee - I have 3 dogs, and because 3 is too many to handle on leashes all at once, I actually do 2 dog walks every morning, totaling maybe 4 to 5 miles of walking. This set up is a great way for me to sneak in extra exercise, so I can't complain. And living in Florida there is rarely weather that stops the walks from happening, so they pups are really good for my health!

A foot of snow -- I can't even imagine!

I was a bit of a sloth yesterday. I did do 20 minutes of weight lifting and about 10 of stretching, but not much. I scared myself the day before because I had really bad heart palpitations that lasted for about 5 minutes that were exercise induced. I've been to the doctor several times, and had 2 EKG's and of course my heart doesn't act up when I'm in the doctor's office. But it's scaring me. I'm going to do my regular routine tonight though.

Michelle- I think your daily 5K is awesome! If you like it, and it's working for you, that's fantastic!

The heart palps are scary. The ones I had the other night were the worst so far. It felt like something was doing backflips in my chest. I'll mention it to my doctor, but I don't know what I can do short of wearing a Holter monitor which I understand is very expensive. A stress EKG might do it, but the thing is that exercise only induces the palps occasionally and it doesn't appear to be related to anything other than caffeine makes them worse so I avoid caffeine now. (I miss coffee).

My P90X3 DVD's came in the mail yesterday, so I plan to start that program tonight. We shall see how that goes, it looks really hard but I did do the first P90X and most of Insanity (before my knees got trashed by all the jumping) so hopefully I will be able to do this. I need something to kick my weight loss up a notch. I gained weight over the summer and it's not coming off very fast. I do better when I do intense exercise as well as diet, so hopefully this will help.

Hey there!

Dee- I get occasional palpitations in my chest too out of the blue or if I am in a certain position. I am seeing a cardiologist to get it checked out. Good luck with that.

For today, I will have walked about twenty minutes which is going to be both up and down a hill, I want to be more active but my ankle pain is kind of getting in the way. I started physical therapy this week, I've been doing some exercises, I have to keep up with that.

Once I finish PT I plan on trying out Aqua Zumba! I have heard that it is lots of fun and a great workout!

Happy Holidays!

Dee -- I'm laughing at "snowmobiling" since I just went and lowered the air conditioner because I was sweating in the house, lol.

I have a mountain bike and a hybrid bike, and I generally bike solo or with my husband on the road shoulder. We live on a barrier island so often we are either biking along the beach or biking along the river, which is nice for visual stimulation, plus we ride the bridge causeways for elevation (otherwise it is flat, flat, flat here).

I've used both my bikes in triathlons, I'm too cheap (and not serious enough about racing) to get a lighter road or tri bike.

That's probably more than you ever wanted to know, lol, are you interested in cycling?

Mrs. Snark. It is time to up the distance on those 5ks as well as trying to improve your 5k time.

Make 4 miles the norm. You know the deal. Slow it down to go further. Get used to it. Then speed it up.

Rinse. Repeat.

Mrs Snark

Hey Ian, thanks for the advice. Adding distance is tricky as I balance my love of running with chronic back/hip issues -- my doctors advised I not do any running at all, but over the last 8-ish months I've managed to go from zero miles running to a very frequent 5k, so I'm pretty darn happy to be running at all.

But I get what you're saying :). For the winter I'm going to try alternating the 5k with a biking since it is low impact and easier on my back, and then maybe I can start adding distance slowly.

But I have to go realllllly slooooowly adding distance. I used to be a bit more of a mileage freak with a daily 6 miler and 10 - 13 milers on weekend days. I don't think I can make it back to that, so I've got to learn how to be satisfied within my physical limitations!

Thanks so much for the encouragement! :)

Hey, I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas! Happy New Year too! :)

I was doing a lot of walking when I was away for Christmas and my ankle got really swollen :( My surgeon said that I have to rest it more, I go back to physical therapy this week. It will be the three month mark from my ankle surgery next week! YAY!

Happy exercising! :)

WELCOME Worththeeffort2 (way to go on doing 30 minutes on the Elliptical!) and Kate M!

Seabiscuit- sorry to hear about your ankle swelling up, but yay that you're almost at the 3 month recovery mark!

I wanted to post up that this month of exercise really helped me. I didn't lose weight, but I didn't gain any either. More importantly, the original point of doing this to help depression worked for me. I often get blue this time of year both from lack of daylight and from the pressure of the holidays. Last year was particularly bad. This year, I didn't even notice it!

I hope we do this again in January!

Thank you for the support everyone :)

I have been doing some of my PT exercises, and I hope that continues to help me out, I see my surgeon Monday. I am hoping to get back to the Y, so that would be fun and great exercise once I can get back there.

It's bitter cold here and snowy! We're supposed to get a big storm here, so much for walks around the block, I heard in PT that they have a lot of people who fall on the ice and break their ankles in the winter months. Yikes!

Happy New Year everyone!

Amy :)
