Hi All I am new here but would love to get in on the decemner challange.

Goal
week 1 to do some sort of exercise for 20 minutes 3 days a week
week 2 to exercise for 20 minutes 4 days a week
week 3 to exercise for 30 minutes 4 days a weeek
week 4 not to blow my diet out of the water over christmas and exercise 3 days for 30 minutes.

I need to get on track and lose some of this weight! I can't wait to see how far we all come

I have struggled for the last 6 weeks or so. In particular in November. I reached none of my goals. I'm going to set one goal for myself for December. I really want to get back into the swing of things, get my eating back on track and my exercise and going to the gym. My new job is proving to be so difficult to work around. My only goal will be to finish my 800 miles in 2013 - 75 miles to go. Anything else I will do will be a bonus.

December:


1: Gym workout - 5.55 miles & 2 miles walking. (Total miles:7.55/75 miles)
2: 2.5 miles walking. (Total miles:10.05/75 miles)
3: 2.5 miles walking. (Total miles:12.55/75 miles) Tonight, after work I was going to go to the gym! Had so much motivation and planned it since Sunday but since then I've developed an awful cold and sore throat. Hope I'll start to feel better, I've plans during the week and weekend!

My goal is to walk my dog at least 4 out of 7 days a week this month.

12/2...walked though not as long as normal. We didn't get home till 10:30 at night, and it was really dark. I want to get her something glow in the dark for night time walks.

I've been sidelined with pain since Nov 11. Yesterday I figured it might be IT band. I have started doing the stretches to help relieve it. My goal for December is to do IT band stretches and exercises every day.

I need to go back and update November's stats, but I wasn't as successful as I would have liked to have been. My December goal is average of 60 minutes of exercise per day.

I have been side-stepping joining this challenge every since I entered 3FC. So it is time to take another step towards dropping 99 lbs. Weight loss has really slowed down for me so I have to do more, and exercise is it. Besides I need to be more active.

And (I am saying "AND" rather than "but," going to try to not make my disabilities an excuse to not do anything anymore) ---- My right knee is going out, have to watch very close to not twist it in any way, a couple of months ago it did go out and I was practically immobilized for two weeks.

My feet hurt very bad if on them very long or walk much. Bursitis in my shoulders made it impossible for me to do push-ups or chin-ups, and makes it very difficult to raise my arms over my head. So running is out, very much walking is out, and most weight exercise is out. UGH

Today I tried a walk, walked half a mile, was afraid to venture further than a 1/4 out from house, did not want to become unable to walk back. Cannot crawl as I cannot get on my knees due to the extreme pain in my right knee. My feet and knees made it ok, however to my surprise my hips were hurting by the time I got back.

Regardless, I will start walking that half mile a day as long as I am able to, and if possible increase it later.

I do not have a name for it, but I will start laying on my back and raising my legs 30 times each both sideways and up four times a week. That is all I can commit to at this time.

Turned 73 today.

Happy Birthday, B F R! I'd call your leg exercises "leg lifts." You've got a great plan for exercise!

Tabbycat: I self-diagnosed IT Band Syndrome. Once I figured it out, stretches and leg exercises (including B F R's leg lifts) helped. I still can't run, though. I hoped getting the weight off would make a difference, but every time I try to run, the IT pain comes back. Fortunately, there are other ways to get in shape.

Epic fail on November challenge. My MIL came home on hospice last week. So I haven't exercised in 8 days now. I am going to shoot for 1000 minutes for the month of exercise.

BFR Happy birthday! We recently purchased a recumbent exercise bike, it's pretty low-impact on the feet and shoulders, maybe not so good for your knee though...I remember doing those leg lifts, good exercise, may have to add some in.

Hi All!! I just joined the weight loss challenge today and I figured what better way to meet that challenge then to join this one....my goal for this month is 1500 minutes....this is my month so far....

I'm new to this but this seems like a great way to stay accountable!!!

WOW !!

I did not realize it has been 10 days since I logged into this challenge, and this is my first report. I think I need to start reporting in daily like yall do.

My goal was 30 legg lifts 4 times a week, and walk 1/2 mile a day, adding more if I could.

The first day I walked, measured the walk and it was 5/8 mile. It went fairly easy, so the next day I added 3/8 mile to make it 3/4 mile, and walked that every day except two, one when I just could not get it done before dark, and the second a few days ago when we had a terrible wind and sand storm all day and night. Much of the time the sun was not visable due to the sand in the air. Plus it was what to us was bitter cold, about 40 degrees. With the wind blowing around 50-60 mph, sand and that cold I just was not going to walk. Then yesterday I just did not have the time to. I have been very busy either working around here or going to do some electrical service calls.

Today I walked, and made it 2 1/2 miles. I belive I am going to start walking the 2 1/2 miles per day.

The leg lifts, which were to be 30 on each leg 4 times a week, I just have not done but three times. The first time I did 60 twice with my left leg, and 45 and a repetition of 30 with my right leg. The second time it was 60 each leg, and 15 situps.

Today was 60 x two reps each leg of leg lift and 30 times x 2 reps of lifting both legs up at the same time.

I hope to be able to start getting in the leg lifts daily plus some situps with the 2 1/2 mile walk and start doing something else with it.

It has been a week since I checked in. I was planning on posting daily. However, as a female friend of mine likes to say, "Life is what happens while you make other plans." Man, but that is proven correct continuously.

I have wound up working til after dark practically every day since then with only one other exception in which I got the 2 1/2 mile walk in but have not done any leg lifts since until yesterday. Yesterday I walked the 2 1/2 mile walk in then did leg lifts. To my astonishment my left leg started hurting bad at 30, so only the 30 on it. With my right leg I got 45 and that was it, no reps. Wondered why, and why I was feeling so stiff and "not right."

It finally dawned on me later after a nap (my first nap in a few weeks also and first day off with no work, even around the place here) that I had not taken my morning meds which had pain relieve for arthritis etc. No wonder I was stiff and hurting. So, I took them at 3:30 in the afternoon, when I usually take them around 5:30 am.

Today is much better, but has been trying to rain all day and I do not go out in the slick clay here when it rains. If I do, I tend to spend a lot of time on my tail, and while up I grow a 1/4 inch each step. And my shoes get HEAVY :D

kelijpa, I live in Southern California desert east of Riverside and west of Palm Springs and we get some horrible sand storms here at times.

I have to yield to circumstances now, and will exercise all I can when I have time. Today no walking because of the rain. I did 75/60/45 leg lifts left leg, 60/45,42 with my right plus 60 times each leg holding a leg up at the knee and just raising and lowering from my feet and lowering them down 60 times each. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, did all of that with my shoes on :D That does add to it. I got a call to go do a service call in Murrieta and plan on doing some more on my return.

BFR, you can only do what you can do and the fact that you have arthritis and still put in the exercise, I think is fantastic! :cp: And I'm glad you mentioned meds because it reminded me to take my probiotic, lol!

Well, I did not post again yesterday or the day before but I did exercise.

I walked 2.8 miles, 1 hour the day before yesterday.

two reps of leg lift, left leg, 75 each. Two reps on right leg, 7o and 60. All I
could do.

Yesterday due to rain I did not walk, but I did do two reps of leg lifts and 15 situps plus some other light exercise for artheritis (lifting each leg from knee down 100 times each) and some other stuff.

Today I worked but got back with just enough time to walk 1 3/4 mile. I have not done any leg lifts yet but may, I was totally exhausted when I got back, then I spotted a lamb on the wrong side of the fence so I went and found the herder to come put it back. With so many coyotes here it would not stand a chance outside. Then the herder engaged me in conversation, really giving my limited spanish a good workout. He wanted to buy some solar panels from me or have me order some for him. LMAO.... which was OK, but then he tried to jew me down. He finally got it through his head that I purchased them for the guys on E bay auction as a favor and would go no less than they cost me :D

Anyway, I have no work planned for tomorrow outside of around here. That will be cleaning up, and hoeing emerging weeds. December is kind of our spring here, when we get the rain and weeds sprout. Especially foxtails. Hate them.

I will try to post again tomorrow.

Wish I could exercise like several of ya do, in four months time I would be down to the weight I want to get at. Some of ya.... Turtle, Rhiko, Kelipja, Sum.... and more, can't believe yall don't have all that excess weight off, with all you do I would think by now ya could stick out your tongues and look like a zippers :D

But you are healthy, and that is what counts. Keep it up :D

Jacqui, turn around is fair play, you mentioning me making you think of taking your probiotics reminded me it was a good idea to take some myself tonight. I do not care for mixed vegetables, but I know I need to add them to my diet. The problem has been not having a way to fix them to make them really tasty. I have been steaming them, pouring lime juice over them and sprinkling a good healthy amount of spicy seasoning on them.

Tonight I decided to try something diff, tired of the same ole thing. So I cooked 2 oz of Barilla small elbow veggie pasta, and in a small skillet put in about 6 oz normandy frozen mixed vegtables, table spoon or therabouts of extra virgen olive oil, 3 oz of diced chicken thigh, added a bit of salt and a healthy amount of italian seasoning and stir fried them until the chicken was done, about 3 minutes. Then I stirred in the pasta and cooked another minute. It was purt good, but I think it wold have been better with some soya sauce, which I seemed to be out of.

Anybody with some good tasty recipes for veggies, I would sure love it. I need to learn to eat them and I like tasty. Always hated those things they serve in restaurants, even fine ones, those tasteless veggies... Can't understand why they would serve them. Paid 85 bucks a plate in an English resturant once, just trying diff things. Worst steak dinner I have had, and most tasteless veggies, man, never again will I eat English style cooking. And paid much much more than for a good meal somewhere. :D

I took a couple of those probiotics, they ought to make those veggies go through OK. My system is not used to that stuff.

BFR have you tried roasting veggies, a little olive oil, your choice of seasoning, we have a smoky chipotle blend you might like, I forget the brand at the moment, I'll look it up for you. Grilled veggies are good too.

I recently started making sweet potato fries, you cut them up like French fries, put a tsp or two of oil in a baggies, put the fries in to coat them, sometimes I spice them up, sometimes plain, the bake in the oven about 10 mins per side, again I'll find a link for you, it's the quickest way to cook sweet potato. I googled sweet potato fries, the site called instructables has step by step directions with photos.

Sometimes when I do those steamers I add a little butter and garlic salt, to me it's kind of like salad dressing, if it gets me eating more veg it's a good indulgence.

walked two miles today, was going to do 3.5 but saw it was a no-go and turned back at a mile out.

No other exercise, other than hoeing weeds for an hour.

Lyn you reminded me of one time I tried to use Runkeeper on the treadmill, didn't work out too well, lol, no distance per the GPS, then I discovered I could log manually, so that's what I do for the bike and treadmill.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

Last night I decided to make this my exercise day, getting in all I could. I planned on going for two walks and trying for at least 2 1/2 miles on each :cool:

Got up this morning just after sunrise. Bright, bluebird clear, not a single cloud in the sky, only thing up there were three diff jets with their contrails behind them. Mild breeze, maybe 12 MPH. Not bad. Hoed some weeds, and wind got a bit stronger. Went inside to drink another cup of coffee and look at the weather forecast. Weather warning, sustained winds of 35 mph, gusts of 55, and occasional gusts of 65. Looked to the northeast and saw a rising cloud of dust and sand. Clear to the north west and south west. Wind from the northeast. It is very dusty just to my right and clear as a bell to the left. Hope I keep missing the worst of it. The different paths the winds take through the different mountains and hills here determine who/where gets it the worst/least. I do not want to go for a walk in this wind, feels just too uncomfortable to me. I guess my exercise today will consist of doing a spring cleaning in the house, and maybe a bit more of clearing emerging weeds and grass with the hoe.

I do not like this, as with no structure it gives too much time to think about what to eat and trying to stay out of it. I bought a rib-eye steak last night and another apple pie. Wanted to celebrate a bit but not overeat today.

I also bought a jar of deli blue cheese dressing, I love that stuff. Thought it might go great on those mixed veggies I try to eat plenty of which do a great job of bulk and slowing digestion which seems to have had the most effect on eating less calories and losing. I got into it last night for just a "taste" which turned out to be spoons full of it. I don't know how many calories I took in of it, but it was plenty. But I did share it with my girls, giving each of them a nice helping of it, which they loved :D So that and an orange, couple of clementines, half a pomegranate and an egg made up my supper, I felt full with them. I think overall I was still inside or close to my calorie allowance anyway being as my first two meals together were less than 500 calories.
