I am in also! I had been doing Ideal Protein but switched I Atkins a few weeks ago. I think I may do the Atkins fat flush to get things rolling!!!!

I like the idea of having a hard target number to focus on through the holidays.

I'm going to aim for 5 pounds, that's a little less than what I typically lose each month but there are some tricky days in this period so it sounds reasonable. And anything less feels like I'm slacking on my expectations, so I'll reach for 5 (and I'll be gentle with myself if I fall a little short)

Hi Staja and Sarah!!!

Happy Friday - Happy day after!!!

Enjoyed turkey, gravy, green bean casserole and sweet potato yesterday!! Bypassed potatoes and stuffing as well as dessert!! Were my portions bigger? Absolutely - so there is nothing new to report!! And I am ok with it because I don't feel like I derailed myself - I enjoyed the day without completely losing myself. (Of course, I loved the sweet potato...then my niece told me about the sugar and maple syrup in the recipe!!!)

My mom is staying with us for a few days - she watches carbs and sugars because of her diabetes - and she made me realize the 100 calorie greek yogurt I'm buying may not be the best choice - I think I need to switch to totally plain yogurt if I want to really add it in....and I do. I like the individual servings because it helps me control what a serving looks like....and portions continue to rule my world!!

Lulu: Sounds like you had a wonderful day yesterday!

I "ran" our town's 5k in the harbor yesterday morning and then we had a lovely dinner with over 50 of my boyfriend's family. As far as food goes, I'm actually really picky about eating things other people make, so I wasn't as crazy as I could have been. And now I'm refreshed for the holiday season (and just need to bring myself to toss the rest of the lemon cream cheese frosting in the fridge!)

I tend not to do well in a challenge. Funny I can challenge myself and it works but to do a challenge with others for some reason my brain reneges! I'm going to give it a try though. If I disappear you will know why. :)

Count me in for the challenge. My goal is seven pounds. My weight is up a couple of pounds and I want to get back under 145.

I've been eating primal and intend to continue, with my eye on the carbs.

Timlin - This thread really is just a place to keep yourself accountable to yourself - and sometimes that is "challenging" enough!!

Calee - my weight is up two pounds after Thursday and Friday - I hate to admit that but Thanksgiving and Thai food that ended up being a Chinese buffet - well what can I expect - back on track - portions and low carb for me!!

Staja - Awesome on the 5K!! I don't think I'll ever run anything!!

True Confession: I really need to do some upper body strength training!! My husband lifts weight every day and baby girl does too!! He devised a weighted bucket on a pulley system! Well everyone including my mother can easily move the bucket at a certain weight except for me!! My 74 year old mom has great strength because of water aerobics which she does everyday!! Ugh!! What a reality check!!

I'm in! I am also someone who gained 2 lbs over Thanksgiving week! My family was in and I couldn't resist. Starting very hard core today, just making some boiled eggs for breakfast :)

Starting weight: 152 lbs

Oh I am in Lulu!... I have had a few BBBBAAASDDDDDD days (lots of lessons learned as well!) I saw a bad number on the scale this morning.. but will official weigh in tomorrow as the start (I am back up into the 250's YIKES! )

New Years... we have over 5 weeks to lose Hooray! and I for one, am lighter than last year and plan on being at my lowest!! :) I can't WAIT to see all of your winning goals 1/1/14! all!! :D

I am back and I am in gear!.Thank you Lulu and it looks like you did not do too bad!.......Holidays cause alot of family anger and strife and I (for so many years) turned to food for the answer... Well FOOD is not the answer.. it just causes more guilt and strife... So I have more lessons to learn! and more holidays to manuver around and parties...

I have a question for y'all, with atkins do you still find you gain after eating out due to sodium if you stay op? or only from going off plan with carbs? I ate out last night, had fajitas with no tortillas or anything and the veggies were in my carbs for the day but I realized I have no idea what to expect from the scale now. I'll find out tomorrow either way but I am curious to know others experiences

Pixikat... oh gosh.. sodium really does it to me!.. Tho eating bread and stuffing Thursday made my blood rush and made me jittery.. it was really the sodium. I noticed that when I lower the salt intake or drink extra water the weight goes down.. So I vote for Sodium being the culprit for weight gain if only having 1 bad day :)

Out of the house early this AM - nothing new to report!! Hoping I can report 177 on Friday!! Wearing my new 14s this week - I bought them on October 1 but haven't worn them yet - I don't know why.....getting too comfortable wearing my loose 16s???

True confession: I am using the elliptical everyday but everyday I still "have" to make myself do it!! Will I ever really "enjoy" it? I worry I will quit....I worry all the time!! ugh!

So much harder to remember to post when I can't do it from work!

I did some of my shopping last week (online, since I live in the boonies), so now I need to get a move on finishing up the last few and the wrapping, of course. Also, 2 parties coming up this weekend. Gosh, the holidays are so stressful.

And, Mr. Staja takes 2 weeks off for Christmas. He's been complaining about having to work from home for a day or 2 of it. I started my job in August, so I can't even think of vacation until next August. And I'll only get get a week - which includes sick time. Every time he complains about his time off, it makes me want to throw something at him!

Sodium always gets me! I'm up a few ounces from yesterday while keeping carbs low, calories below 1200 with 90 minutes of exercise. Grrrr...

I'm not a whoosher, but hope that will change! I'll stick with it.

lulu I guess it really depends on how long you've been doing it. Some people take awhile longer to like it. but if it has been more than a few months I would say start considering other exercises you might like more.

staja I would be wanting to throw things at my DH head too if he was acting like that. If it gets too much to bear you could try sitting him down and telling him how you feel.

well I didn't bump up from the sodium, but I am not showing a loss today. I am sitll the lowest I have been in a couple months so the water may be done flushing. we will see how it goes i guess.

Finally got the weight off I gained during Turkey Week! Now I feel like I am actually in the race since I don't really count that loss.

Pnkrckpixikat I've been working out since the summer but I know in my heart it doesn't matter what exercise it is - I just feel that it would be very easy for me to relapse, eat wrong and not exercise and I really want to make the change - I guess I am in a "fake it til you make it" phase and will keep trudging along!! I want to be in a "this is my everyday habit" phase!!

True confession: I used to eat a Dunkin Donuts turkey/cheddar/bacon flatbread almost everyday - 470 calories and 55 carbs and sometimes the hash browns 200 calories and 22 carbs!! Yikes!! That is a habit I am glad is gone - I only order coffee now!!

Can't weigh but 60 minutes on the treadmill last night and planning the same for today!!!

Sue: At least we are employed, right? :)

I'm finding it harder and harder to stay on track. Like, I know what I shouldn't be eating, but it's not until after I put it in my mouth, that I think....hmmmm, maybe I should make a better choice. I don't know if it's a psychological thing or what.

Yes.. I am thankful for work (Tho we are sooooo sloooowwwwww right now) But I am helping out the other employee that did not like me and now she really does WHEW! :) Staja.. I hope you are having a better day!

Salt and exercise.. boy they both make our bodies hold water (Repair muscles and just act like a sponge).. but those muscles help us burn more calories in the long run... so Ying/Yang

Just today.... If something tempts you.. say NO..... just for today... It will be there tomorrow if you want it.. (training my brain again!)

Good morning everyone. I'm starting to get into my groove which makes me feel good. Pilates reformer classes 4-5x this week planned. That and my 30 minute walk on those days is perfect. Longer walks the other days. I'm not quite induction levels, a bit higher but sliding into ketosis. I'm determined to lose the 5 I gained in the last year, plus a few if I can.

Hi Skipnlaugh,

So glad you said something about exercise causing water retention! I have been working out since I started Atkins. I do the bar method and hadn't since before thanksgiving. Super hard on the muscles so probably why I haven't lost as much as I have in the past on this diet.

At least I haven't gained! :carrot:

I'm taking a break from muscle work today - can barely walk or open doors! Hopefully the rest will do my body good.

lulu that how I am too. I have yet to find an exercise I am excited to do. I like the exercises I do once I get started, but I have to force myself to start most days.

Can't weigh until tomorrow but going to drink water like crazy today!! My sodium intake last night was high!! I could taste it in everything!! Fresh and low sodium for me but that will be easy because I will be back home later today!! Carbs were ok and calories were under but sodium was four letter word!!

Going to exercise this AM!! I LOVE to exercise! (This is part of my fake it til you make propaganda!! Ha!!)

Skipped the workout last night - instead I made Mr. Staja shepherd's pie and took advantage of him working late to wrap his holiday presents. I also worked on a cross-stitch baby blanket I'm making for my sister. I have until May, and it's quite large!

Also found out yesterday that 85% of the folks at my old job (the one I left when I moved), are getting laid off at the end of January. What a cruddy way to start their holiday season. Makes me even more thankful that I have my right-now job, and gives me more patience to hold out before looking for something new!

I am so thankful that we have strength inside of us and are directed to do the right thing and to decide on a course (work, life, eating) that is best for us. We all listened to our Guardian Angel whispering and started this weight loss journey! :)

Exercise,,, I am a walker and sometimes just need to get my butt outside (tho I do walk a circuit inside my house in and around furniture, etc for 110 steps a circuit).. but outside is better for the mind thinking and pondering!

lulu add some lemon juice to your water like a tbls per 20 oz, it really helps flush out, it is worth the 1 carb.

staja ouch! yeah finding work right now is pretty difficult. My hubby's job is SCREWING him right now (over worked, not giving him the resources he needs then yelling when things aren't done fast enough, asking him to basically work from home on his vacation. not for a little bit or a day, but basically do 85% of his job just from home that week) but he's worried about getting fired so he is taking it for now :(

sue you said your weather is holding up, get your butt out and walk outside! :p

Good morning everyone!

I realized I wasn't following the format of day by day weight loss. I need to get a better scale that shows more than whole numbers. I am very happy with my loss so far! The first 2 lbs was just Thanksgiving gain so I've really lost my first lb today!

I have a long walk from the ferry to my office so that's how I'm getting my exercise in the next couple days. Anyone have the UP band? or any of those step trackers. I got one and am using it again and it has really helped to motivate me to move.

Great job pixiecat on the weightloss! You too Staja! I think you could make your lower goal of 213 easily!

Huh, I think my scale is broken! I definitely ate most of a (erm, a whole) frozen pizza last night. I really need not do that :D and I'm sure the scale will show it tomorrow! Anyway, Happy Friday!

Sue: I do the same thing at work - I spend 30 minutes a day scanning invoices in our front office, and usually spend my whole time in there pacing.

Pixicat: Hopefully things will quiet down for your hub after the holidays?

Hey all, I have been out of town so I haven't really been on here cause I couldn't weigh in. I got in a couple hours ago and immediately stepped on the scale to see if there had been much damage. I ate as best as I could but since I didn't know how things were prepped I am sure i wasn't fully op.

Hi everyone,
I am back after MANY months and am trying hard to stick with it and see long lasting results. I recognize many of your names and remember your kind support in the past. It is good to be amongst friends again. How inspiring to see you continuing your journey to health!
Your willpower and determination are amazing!!
I think it would be beneficial to start now rather than wait until the 1st. The sooner the better, right?
Here it is: starting at 240 .......ashamed of myself and to say it out loud!

Worked out already today - continuing my fake it til I make it strategy!! Scale did not move but I really think it is going to happen soon! I'll be on the road so I can't weigh again until Wednesday!!

Very proud of myself this weekend.

My mom is on Atkins and I got my best friend on Atkins as well! She is so excited and wouldn't stop talking about how educational this diet is on what foods are good and bad. So happy to introduce her to a better and healthier way of life.

I used to get really bad stomach aches but haven't touched my tums at work since I started this back up again.

Went to a concert with my best friend on Friday and we definitely helped keep each other on track. She said she wanted a beer and I said I wasn't going to drink but if they had vodka maybe I'd get a vodka water. Then she remembered we really aren't supposed to drink. We both stayed good and had hot dogs :)

It paid off since I lost another lb! Down to 148.

This is probably TMI but I haven't gone number 2 in quite a while (at least 3 days). Should I be worried? :o

ugh. I haven't' stepped on the scale as i am terrified of what I've done to myself since Thanksgiving vacation. I am just hoping to drop whatever I have gained, and at least return to 167. I will wait till I am brave enough to step on the scale to post stats.:o

Sue: you are doing amazing and come so far! Keep it up and the extra water weight will slide right off!

Lindsay: I've been drinking Smooth Move tea once a week or so, when I have issues in that area. It cam happen if you aren't eating enough fiber or getting enough water.

Can't weigh but worked out - I read someone calling it the "dreadmill" - personal best 3.7 mph - I'll never be a runner but I will be a very fast walker!! Wishing everyone a downdowndown day!!

Lindsayms14 - I think everything slows down when you get to a certain weight because there is only so much food you can have and stay on plan - but I agree it depends on the type of food. No issues when I am eating boatloads of fauxtato salad for instance! I wouldn't worry about how often only if it is difficult...

I need to get back to studying for my tests today so I will try to do personals later, but I do have a confession, last night I ate at the dining hal, I did so good at first, then I caved to my test-stress induced cravings for bakery food! :( I ate three cookies. but they made me feel like crap, so it seems unlikely I will do that anytime soon. I haven't noticed that I am feeling better on atkins, but going off that little really set me off. My body was like WTF!!! lol

1.7.5. - It's official - I am in completely new territory!! Not sure why the scale jumped but I will take it!! 50 pounds down!!! 15 to go for my realistic goal weight!! I can't remember as an adult ever weighing less than 178...it has me shaking my head in disbelief...actually teary this morning.....it's a journey......thank you so so so much for your support!!!

Pixikat...cookies are a hard thing to walk away from (especially during the holidays) and with you studying and being stressed for the finals.. well.. sometimes a crutch is needed. I have to ask tho, as you said you have not felt anything while doing Atkins, do you feel alittle less cloudy in the head? that was always the first sign to me, telling me that it was working.. I just felt smarter and less brain congested. Has something like this happened to you?

Ugh Cookies are the bane of my existence this week!!! My aunt sent me a small box of christmas cookies and I ate idk how many :( I threw the rest of the box away though so thatll be the only damage from that. I think I only gave in cause I was hungry for lunch and the first thing I saw was a brownie, my biggest weakness lol

sue I haven't noticed feeling more clear headed but I have had a tension headache since before I started from school and tests and whatnot. I am alot less hungry though. I am rarely hungry, I more have to remember to eat something most days.

1.7.4 this morning!! Not sure what is going on but again I will take it!! For the first time in a very long time I can actually say I made goal on one of the long term challenges!! Thanks again for all of the support and kind words!!! I really appreciate it!!

Sue - When I get to 160 that's when I will feel like I am 15!! That's the weight I was in 10th grade before I went on my first crash diet. It was the 80s and I think the plan was called the "Cambridge Diet" - you know the story - girl loses weight, then gains it back plus some!

Sabotage of the day - My brother, knowing I am getting fit, sent chocolates to my house!!

True confession - I have been experiencing an arthritic flare, had a pity party, and did not work out yesterday. When I warm up and get more flexible later today - I WILL work out - back to faking it until I make it!!

Staja I still have to do my holiday baking, but I have been slowly introducing my family to healthier goodies. Probably will make zucchini brownies, muffins with chia seed instead of eggs, etc. They seem to like the goodies.

Lulu and Pixicat I understand the temptation. Here at wrong someone brought a huge tin of the Danish butter cookies. I love those things! I had to walk past them several times yesterday. I admit that I had a few.

Holding steady....but I don't expect much more this month. Usually I lose and then hold for what seems like the longest time before the scale moves again!!

Success of the week I did what I said!! I worked out on the elliptical yesterday - I was worried I was going to fall off the exercise wagon. Not so stiff this morning so I am going to work out soon. I love checking that box off as soon as possible!! It's only December and I can't wait to walk outside again!! It was 15 degrees yesterday and my husband went walking - too cold for me!!

Danish butter cookies - nuff said - doesn't everyone love them!!

Oh, the carb count on those are scary! lol I wonder if the flour can be subbed with almond flour and the sugar with an alternative sweetener. When I decide to up my carb count maybe I will play around with it.

I've been losing a lot of weight this week - it's always easier for me to be really tight on diet when my husband is out of town and I just eat simply. I've been purposefully low on calories for a few days and it seems to have really gotten the scale moving.

So, first part of this challenge is achieved - I've lost the 5 pounds I planned for!

Now, the more difficult part - holding the line (or even better losing more) through the holidays

I've been putting off my holiday baking, and I'm going to do less than usual (it helps that I have a new baby in the house, nobody expects it all this year!) - but I'm not making any of the stuff that really tempts me this year either, just the stuff I make that people have specifically requested (and brownies - I still have leftover Easter chocolate in the freezer that is going in a batch or two of brownies...)

Worked out already today - like I said - nice to check that box off early in the day!! I was up very early today - wrapped some presents, finished the popcorn/cranberry garland for the tree, made a dessert for a meeting that I have to go to today - not planning to have any of it!! So far so good!! Lots of snow coming in tonight!! Getting ready to ditch my 18W jeans!! Wishing my apple waist was making more progress. I think the guideline is below 35 inches for women for heart health....hope everyone has a great weekend!!

PS. I consider myself too high risk so I don't eat any low carb baked goods - I really don't think I could recover....

Holding steady!! Measured my waist and it is down to a 38. It needs to be less than 35 so I really have quite a way to go!! But I have made progress over this past year....just wish more of my apple was missing!! I really need to add ab toning exercises to my routine...ugh!!

Thank you Lulu and Mara :) I just let go... and I guess I am human and mess up.. its just so icky looking at that scale number GRRRRRRRR .. but also a kick in the keister to get back in the saddle for at least 7 days to Christmas (and then we have HAM... SALT on a FORK! lololol can't wait to see that number on the scale next Thursday LOLOLOL)

I so do want to be 244 on New Years... Welll I am walking 2.5+ miles outside with my friend who has health troubles.... He is breathing better (Hooray!) and I am getting a heck of alot more steps in a day (and staying away from the TV for a few extra hours too! LOL) So I hope the walking helps the water get outta town sooner! :)

Hey all! I was super busy the last few days so wasn't able to get on here.

Sue- it is just water weight it'll flush back off again. Just back to induction til Christmas for you!!! I went a little crazy at a party on friday too, they had this AMAZING cheese dip but the only thing to dip into it was bread and chips :( and I had a couple cookies too.

lulu hope you trip is going well! you have really got the whole exercise routine down it seems! The times I did best with exercise was when I did it early too. It was right near my work so I would work out shower at the gym and go to work. I really need to get back in that habit.

OH Lulu.. what a blast to go to the concert! HAVE FUN! Our mirrors take along time to readjust themselves. I have taken years and years to train mine to make me look thinner when I was over 300 lbs... now being less the mirror just does not know what to do. Its like we have to train it everyday! (You must look AWESOME!)

Pixikat,,, oooo Cheese dip YUMMY! that is hard to stay away from especially when you can't use your fingers! LOL... Salt is a bane and may we survive this next week and come out on the other side happy and determined!

Good Going Mara!.. you are so much closer to 230's than ever! Very happy for you! and my friend is doing better everytime we walk.... Last night he had a cold so we only made it 2 miles... but I am proud of him. He is also getting alittle happier and more social! Exercise..... does the MIND good! :)

Sue it was soooo good! apparently it was made of brie, cream cheese and butter. I need to get the exact recipe cause it would be great with celery or meat.

I am the same today as yesterday, but I am sore from the gym yesterday so hopefully a new number soon! I am planning to use the break to get back in the habit of working out cause I want to be in great shape, not just a certain weight. I am taking 18 credits and working 20 hours next semester so IDK how well I will keep it up once the semester gets busy

Hi Sue - I wanted to comment on walking with your friend. I think both of you will see great improvement in breathing and stamina as it becomes a routine. Personally, I have crappy lungs and I am susceptible to every thing under the sun. What I have noticed is that I can be 30 minutes into my workout and I can actually sing to the songs I am listening to - before I was lucky to just catch my breath!! Now I know I could be talking to whoever I am walking with and not have to worry about keeling over! Ha! Walking is the bomb!!

A little worried about the scale because I feel my portions have been too big.....weigh in tomorrow....yikes!

Lulu... the walking does help my friend... He has COPD and gets bad alergies (So bad he does not leave his chair and mopes) and now he has a cold.. but he is walking and I am so proud of him. I reminded him last night that if he had not been walking he would be feeling even worse than he does now (he never sneezed the whole 2 miles and only blew his nose when we got home and started working on a web page which reminded him that he gets energized walking LOL).. I am glad that I started walking (with my friend and his sister and brother in law 10 months ago and I have not stopped... they did after 6 weeks.. but that is okay.. He has started again!) I feel so much better after walking and even happier spending time and talking to my friend! :)

I had a smiley number on the scale.. .it has finally cracked and is on the downdowndown! HOORAY! Maybe 243 is a possibility!?! :)

lulu I am sure it will be fine, even if the weigh in isn't ideal this isn't a sprint it is a marathon. Steady pace with some breaks is best for you, mentally and physically. Just don't start running back to the start line :)

Sue I would say it totally is, but this month it really depends on christmas and how you do and how it effects you. Either way I am sure you will get super close if you stay on track every day but christmas!

Well I am up again, I am trying to tell myself if is because I am sore from resuming working out, but I also know I have had a bite of bread here and a cookie there for the past week so I am probably out of ketosis, I'm sure my insulin isn't wreaking the same havoc had I been eating what used to be normally for me but it likely isn't being helpful. I need to put on blinders and be good 100% for the next week til christmas. Work is the hardest but I only have today and tomorrow then I am off til the 6th so hopefully that will help.

Pixikat... That cheese sounds soooooo good. I remember baking brie with crescent dough wrapped around it and doing "Pinch bread" , but your friends idea is WOW! I am sorry you are so sore... and yep, that blip up is the muscles going oooohhh Ouch.. we need to heal LOL and then you will be stronger!

Uhmm...the scale was being real mean today. There have been lots of office holiday luncheons and parties, but I haven't done too bad. Or so I thought. lol Maybe tomorrow will be better.

You'll also see it as 1:1:1, which may be what was done for the party, since it was very buttery." I am thinking of bringing it to my families christmas celebration. maybe with some bacon in it lol

Yesterday was the longest day ever!!! we walked a lot which was great and we didn't get back to our hotel until midnight!! Baby girl loved the concert - her older brother - not so much!! I can't hear out of my left ear right now!! HA! I'm an old goat!!

Can't weigh - but already worked out and waiting for my gang to come to life for the ride home!!

mara it is a cheese dip, and it is delicious! It is from a long long long time ago lol I have a friend who is in one of those groups that dress up from like the Renaissance and do... things, idk lol anyways she took me to their christmas party the other night and they served this. It was served with bread but would be sooo good with some veggies or meat or as the cheese in a faux mac and cheese casserole etc. I am going to try to make it this weekend and if all goes well take it to my families christmas thing. I'm so glad that the concert was fun! I'm sorry about your ear, but I am sure it'll be fine shortly.

The scale decided to be nice today! hopefully it keeps it up, I have less temptation now that I am off of work til the new year, hopefully I can stick to induction levels til christmas.

ME it DID finally lost all the weight gained last week HOORAY! Now to work on new territory (well still have .4 to go. but that is nothing to sweat about!)
1 more party tonight!... but its a buffet and I can eat just the salad and the meat (Ham) and be good.. I am making (bad for Atkins oh well) a shredded Potato caserole... with Cheddare Cheese soup, Onion soup, milk and potatos and topped with crunched Texas toast Croutons (My concoction) and NOPE not gonna touch it! But I am looking at that cheese dip PIXI and I think I am making that for New Years Eve! oh yay! and toast some Low Carb Tortillas (cut into strips) for dipping! oh yum!

sue while I am doing much better on my diet this year, this time last year I was in the 2teens low 220s so its kinda hard to say life is better lol I gained from 202 in mid october to 260 in june so right now I am avoiding comparing as it just depresses me :(

But I can be happy that I am eating better and staying on track better this year!!! though there was alot more temptation last year so I don't know if it just less temptation means less cheating or if I am actually gaining better willpower lol

Yippee for me I'm 1.7.3!!!! It's taken about 90 days to lose 10 pounds and a little over 6 months for 20 pounds!! Thanks so much for the support on this forum and helping me to stay on track!!!

As I have said before, I was not brave enough in the beginning to write my goal of 152 and actually say I have to lose 73 pounds because losing 10 pounds seemed overwhelming let alone trying to do that 7+ times!!! My realistic goal is 160 but my ultimate goal is 152 and a normal BMI....according to the charts I could be between 113 and 152 so I'm picking 152!!!

True Confession: Not sure I ever stated this but last Christmas, the highest weight I remember on the scale was 232 and I probably was higher at some point... I started Atkins at 225.

Sue- We had nosebleed seats - it was just sooooo loud!!! Congrats on the down!!!

Pixikat... I know that this Christmas weight is not as good as last year... but you are a year stronger and a year closer to graduation (School) and a year wiser. Maybe the scale does not show a happy number... but I know that I am happier and feel more wealthy meeting you (and everyone else) on this forum. You are AMAZING!

Sue - so glad the party weight is gone!!! Hooray!! And thanks for reminding me about July!! It's my birthday month and I hope to be at goal by my 49th birthday!!!

Pixi - I agree with Sue - you are on the right track!! Lessons learned...1 year ago I was beginning again too - except it took me 10 years to get back on track!! You WILL do it!!!

My husband thinks I am losing weight too fast!!! It's fascinating to me to get a different perspective. My calculations are 49 weeks, 52 pounds or 1.06 pounds per week average - not exactly a lightning pace as far as I am concerned.

Wishing everyone an on plan day!!! Be kind to yourself over the holidays - they can be very stressful!!

lulu an avg of a pound a week is a great pace to aim for, not to slow, not to fast, just remember many people slow down close to goal so it may take longer. I will keep my finger crossed for the date you are aiming for though!

Sue you are catching up! See I told you you would likely beat me to the 230s :p

so that cheese sauce was really good, I couldn't really get the consistancy they had but it was probably from more stirring from people digging into it. I tried 1/2lb of each of the ingredients and I would definately recommend going a little easier on the butter as there was definitely butter that wasn't mixing all the way in. We dipped celery in it, and put it on cauliflower and later on broccoli and it worked deliciously each time. With the celery we added some saracha sauce to give it a slight kick. It does have a slightly different consistency once it cools down and you warm it back up, but not by much. Over all it gets 2 thumbs up.

I've been dreading checking back in here, but here goes...

I had a lovely and reasonable couple days leading up to Christmas. Started with carbs a little earlier than planned but still very much in control. The meal I'd been fearing actually would have been totally manageable low carb, which I need to remember for last year. Yesterday was over the top, not quite crazy-time, but way more than I needed for enjoyment or for satisfaction. I did choose well one meal, but then dinner was downhill again. Today, back on track, very tight induction for the next several days, really hoping these extra pounds are carb bloat and not hard-to-move fat. But whatever it is, I will tackle it.

So now this is a real, personal challenge for me to get back to my pre-Christmas weight (or at least the goal weight for this challenge) in the next few days

Oh me too Sarahinparis... I was eating carbs (could not stay away from my Christmas cookies that I made and did not give ALL away yet YIKES and I had bread and butter and scalloped potatoes yesterday... BUT... it does not happen every day... just on an occasion.... so I am thinking this is what maintaining will be and that is fine with me. I got alittle knowledge this Christmas about eating and will learn from it.. NOW to get this extra off and more before 1/1!!!!!! :) WWEEEEEE

1.7.8 - Please excuse me for not changing my ticker - I'm not planning on keeping this weight for too long! Elliptical was great yesterday and I ate under my calorie goal but high carb as sweet potato soufflé is still at my house. It will be gone today!! I went shopping with my sister yesterday and fit into every 14 I tried - it was all window shopping to keep me on track. Tried on sneakers too - i fit into a 9 instead of 9 1/2 - anyone else go down in shoe size?? Still trying to be under 175 for this challenge but know I may not match my ticker again for a little bit..... Happy Friday...wishing everyone on-plan and downdowndown!!!

lulu at 320 I was a 10 and at 202 I was an 8.5 right now I am a 9 or 9.5 depending on the shoe so yup it can definitely change lol

So far no carb flu, so I am hoping I got lucky on that front. The water is starting to whoosh off so I am hoping to see a new low before NYE but we shall see!

I erroneously thought (maybe just hoped it was only back up to that number) that I started back at 240. Well, not right! I start back at 245 today.
Walked 3.5 miles today and am eating according to plan. Went shopping and got only healthy choices for the long run.

1.7.7 - Yeah going in the right direction!! Loving my 19 year old son who gently reminded me to stick with my low carb choices yesterday!! He was very concerned that I would veer off track!! He knows I was up 5 pounds and it bothered him - glad it is only up 4 now!!

My choices are even following me in my sleep - in my dreams last night I was in an airport and over the loud speaker it said "Do you realize you have gained 5 pounds?" Yikes!! It was a nightmare!!!

My Atkins anniversary is coming up on January 7th!! What a difference a year makes!! One year ago, my husband had an emergency appendectomy and the anesthesiologist really talked to me about getting my husband to lose weight - that was the catalyst for me re-starting my journey and I am so glad that I did!! Hi everybody!

12/30 - 243.4. Going down slowly but going down.
Walked 3.5 yesterday. I need to add some weight training or a DVD routine. I would like a solid, predictable daily routine that I can stick to. I am way more inclined to work out in the am rather than at night when I am wiped. So, I plan on waking up at 5 and walking before going to work. We will see how that goes.

hmmmm... well we ate out last night, even OP sodium may be affecting the weigh in. If I don't flush off more in the next couple days though I may call it a gain from Christmas indulgences.

Happy New Year!!! Ending this challenge at 1.7.8!! So my next challenge will have the same goals as this challenge! My sister and her family leave today so my house will go back to normal and all holiday food is out of here!!

Pixikat - I took your lead and called my weight change what it is "Christmas gain" - and I updated my ticker and profile - not going to lie - I hate that I have to re-trace steps!! Hoping the scale is good to you today!!

Sue Looks like you will make the challenge!! Congrats!! Thanks for all of your support this past year!! Can't wait for everyone to make it to 230s, then Onederland!! 2014 will be great for all of us!!!

So, final analysis is that I didn't make his goal, but I did get halfway there, and I had the lowest Holiday gain in many many years while still enjoying myself and staying checked in. So in summary, a success. (Trying very hard to overcome my perfectionism!)

Before the holidays I was doing very well.

During the Christmas holidays (on our trip) I ate carbs but stayed checked in and somewhat in control (one meal was a planned indulgence, but there were other carb days that hadn't been planned)

Did a great job of getting back to strict low carb on the morning of the 26th.

Had planned another carb-allowed meal on Dec 31st but thanks in part to this challenge (and in part to the memory of the recent carb indulgences) I decided not to indulge in carbs on New Years Eve as planned.

The period of Dec 26-Jan 1st (included) was higher calorie than usual for me, and contained much more cheese (and he last 2 days, whipped cream). No doubt that factors into my recent weights.

I allowed myself to indulge in cheese when others had fancy desserts. And on New Years Eve and Day I had plates of red berries, which was het first fruit I've had in over 100 days.

And now, a turn back to the stricter low carb diet, watching protein and keeping a cap on calories - confident my weight will keep moving down in 2014!

Well... I came close .8 away.. but that is okay! This is the closest I have come to meeting a challenge in a LONG time!. JUST THINK EVERYONE.... we all are lighter and have survived the holidays (Not perfect.. but then we are human aren't we?!) Looking foward to joining you all on the next challenge - OOOHHH I see it now... LOVE the LOVE for Valentines Day Lulu!.... :D

12/4 - 247.6 Very very very Happy!!! all water weight but 1 lb is gone! Dinner out with friends at Bonefish Grill... gotta look at the menu for low carb!
12/5 247.2 well.. had Bang Bang Shrimp (Bad Sue as it was breaded opps) BACK on the wagon of Induction again today! Wooo Hoooo - train whistle!
12/6 246.8 Oh YAY Just .2 oz away from all time low for this final journey Yippy!... gonna happen - oh yes it is! Climbing ladder this weekend putting up icicle lights and then putting lights on the palm tress... Good workout and sweating!
12/7 245.6 oh YAY BABY! Very happy!!! and I still have all my climbing work to do this weekend (rainy and humid/warm today booo I would send it up north to you all and to the west!)
12/8 245.2 WooHoo!!!!! .2 away from 75 off total.. This time last year, I would never have thought this! WOOHOO!

1/1/14 243.8 just .8 away from making it (and I probably did as I weighed myself before the TMI here elimination.. but I am happy... Onto the next challenge with my wonderful friends!

Wannaskipandlaugh as far as I am concerned you met your goal!! Congratulations!! I am not a fan of any numbers after the decimal point!! 9 pounds down during the holiday - that is a miracle plus hard work!! You ROCK!!!

Sarah - You put it all in perspective for me!! Over the holidays each year I could have easily gone up 10 pounds - and this year I did not! Yes I was up but just to where I was when I started the month! Thank you for making me think...

Lulu, I am constantly fighting my perfectionism. And while I'm motivated by some of the time-based goals in fact what I really care about is doing my best over the long term - sometimes the time-based goals help me with that. But then I make myself be realistic and generous and kind to myself if the scale doesn't cooperate (because often it doesn't).
