Default SBD Weekend Chat, Nov. 23-24

Good morning

I took mom up for a tour of the projects yesterday morning then we "kind of" took a day off. We went to Denver, took DD to lunch and purchased/delivered a locally raised organic free range turkey to the Niece who will be cooking on Thursday. Today I head back to the real job so I'm up enjoying coffee while picking up around the house.

I'll bet everyone has a busy weekend planned. Stop by and say hi

Today I am joining the "up early" club! The awesome thing about not being able to sleep on a Saturday is the fact that I don't have to go to work and might be able to sneak in a nap later.

Today I need to do my regular chores (cleaning, laundry, groceries) and I want to make some pumpkin cheesy things and some assorted muffins for the upcoming week. I will also cook and mash a couple butternut squash for Thanksgiving dinner.

Since I'm up early DH is still asleep; I may have to make my own coffee. I'll let you know when it's ready!

Lexxiss, have a good day at work.

To all the other chicks, what's on your agenda?

Good morning chicks

I was annoyed at myself for waking up at 6 am on my weekend off. Funny how my alarm wakes me up on the weekends I work!

(oops, posted too soon)

Today will be a fun day (for me!)...we're having an early Thanksgiving supper with one of our international students. I invited a couple of other families over, so there will be 10-12 people, which is a nice little group. Many SBD friendly foods (roasted sweet potatoes, asparagus) and many not-so-SBD friendly foods (we won't discuss those )

Soon I shall start scrubbing and then cooking. Mmmmmmm

I have fresh coffee, Beth, come on over!

Aren't Saturdays awesome? We can sleep in or not and mostly do only what we want all day. And I think that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'm actually thinking about putting up my tree and decorating for Christmas since I'll be busy the next two weekends. Hmmmm, that sounds like a good idea!

ETA - LOL, Tammy! My internal alarm went off around 5, but I wasn't about to get up that early! Your plans sound great and I hope you have a very enjoyable day!

Good morning.

DH is heading out shortly to meet up with some old friends who are in town for the week. They are going to a college football game tonight and DH will bunk down somewhere, not sure when he'll return tomorrow. I'm working the closing shift. I think maybe I'll bake cookies for Thanksgiving while DH is not around to "test" any and maybe run a few errands for some of his stocking stuffers.

Have a great weekend.

Good morning, Chickies. Thanks for starting us up, Debbie. Your turkey will be great, I'm sure.

Big wave south to neighbour Beth. I'll wave again as I fly by on Tuesday morning.

I slept until nearly seven this morning - a miracle! Of course, the trade-off was a puddle in the back room which I dealt with quickly. An old towel an a Swiffer takes care of problems while the Keurig is cranking up.

Big day ahead as it's the first day of Celebrating the Season. The Cafe will be open tonight with a limited menu - long story there involving Village nonsense and little frogs in small puddles. It all gets very political so I'll spare you. I am making a couple of loaves of simple sandwiches for folks to buy when they need a bite. I'll also be working the Hall and Cafe 4 to 9 - not my favourite part of the year but it beats doing tours of the Mill which is always 15 degrees colder than outdoors. When people complain, I tell them it's the ghosts!

The Girls and Kids fly back from Disney very late tonight. I hope the predicted snow doesn't make the roads too bad for their 90 minute drive back to Delta. Karen and I are doing a family dinner here tomorrow. It'll be an inventive chicken stew with dumplings, salad and apple crisp. I love our dinners together but the timing is poor.

I'd planned to vacuum my car this morning after making the sammies but it'll have to warm up a bit more than 26º if I want to do that. I wish I had a heated barn. Maybe I could borrow some animals to live in it and warm things up. (Fergedaboudit!)

Time for one more coffee and then I jet! Hope everyone has a great weekend and can take some time to breathe!

Good morning Cottage, Tammy and Karen. Sounds like everyone is enjoying the weekend but also gearing up for TD. I expect to smell turkey wafting across the St Lawrence pretty soon.

Good morning DS alarm was blaring for no reason this morning UGh! So much for sleeping in lol. Got laundry started, creamy Mexican chicken in the crockpot and Steele oats on the stove. Pups are getting some much needed loving and I am finally having my coffee.

Busy day of chores. Meeting my GFs from college for dinner in NJ. It is a BBQ restaurant so I am sure there will be a little food porn.

Wonder how Natasha is. I guess this will be her first holiday in her new home

Good morning! It's chilly in the house this morning and I'm huddled under a throw-quilt on the couch, enjoying my coffee and the Christmas tree lights. Jake helped me drag up all the Christmas stuff from the basement and we got the tree up and decorated. Up until a few years ago, we used to put up three trees, but took up so much time and was a lot of work, so I've scaled it down to one in the livingroom and a tiny one on the kitchen island. It was too windy to put up the outside decorations, and today's supposed to be even nastier, so I'm not sure when they'll get up, but at least I have my tree.

Today, I have to run to the wine store and spend some time with Dad, but the rest of the day is all mine.

Morning chicks!
Up early again today for some reason. Usually DH is the insomniac in the family but today I woke up at 4 to use the bathroom and never really fell back to sleep. At least I already have laundry going and made the almond flour muffins I didn't get to yesterday. (I did however, make the bean muffins and SB mini-pumpkin cheesecakes)

I also went out in the garden and cut an entire stalk of Brussel Sprouts which I need to blanch and freeze today. Yummy!

Tammy, how did your dinner go?
Jennifer, hope you had a nice evening with your friends.
Cottage, did you get the tree up?
Ruth, was your day successful?

I've got coffee; anyone want to join me?

Good morning. We had a wild snowstorm last night just as Celebrate the Season got underway and attendance was way down. Too bad because it was really pretty. The Mill Cafe was open for light snacks and we were not very busy at all. However we had to keep the building open anyhow since we have washrooms. Rather disappointing.

Today I have a really messy kitchen to tackle before I start my chicken stew for dinner tonight. Once that's on I'll tackle the cash boxes from the Mill and Cafe. Since I'm away next weekend, the volunteers will have to muddle through by themselves until I get back Monday the 2nd.

You chicks have no idea how I am looking forward to getting away for the week. It's been a rough fall. Linda always makes me feel better - I should get a dose of her once a week.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Hey, Beth! Aren't Brussels wonderful veggies this time of year? I absolutely love them since I've discovered roasting. Too bad you can't play hooky on Tuesday and meet em at the Cracker Barrel off the I81 - one of these days ...

Awwww, that's sweet of you Ruth. I wish I was in town so I could drive over and meet you (and have a glass of wine too ) and hang out for a bit. Can't wait to hear all your stories!

Beth, good morning, thanks for the coffee . I HATE when I have to get up for kids or potty after 4 am, b/c chances are I won't go back to sleep later either. Will you have a chance for a nap later?

Cottage - I'm jealous of your tree. I've been trying to figure out when we can get one (we like to cut one down), probably not for a couple of weeks.

Jekel, did you enjoy your dinner?

My dinner went great . Way too much leftovers of the food porn, so I'm not sure what I'll do with them.

I will say though, we were starting to prep stuff yesterday morning, and I went to let the dog in, and she was GONE. (we have an invisible fence) Apparently, the battery came loose, and it didn't work. So all 4 of us were searching the neighorhood (hoping she didn't cross the busier street down the road), and up jogs this man with my dog on a rope. Emma Jean was absolutely delighted and had a look on her face of "YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I GOT TO DO!!!". THe jogger had used his shoe string! WHat a nice guy, I am grateful to him.

Since we (we? LOL..."I") did a ton of cooking and cleaning yesterday, I can relax today. Oops, maybe I should get ready for the trip? But, definately time for a book and a nap!

Good morning.

My baby turns 21 today! I'm just hoping he doesn't do anything too stupid. I have no idea when DH will roll back into town so will enjoy my last hours of quiet. I reorganized the pantry while he was gone and he's going to be less than thrilled. I like a place for everything and everything in its place; he likes to just put things smack dab in front where he'll see them.

Keep warm.

I just wanted to get in before the weekend was over to say hello. I got home from DC late last night and have been in constant motion today. Lots of kitchen stuff going on around here The hotel charged for wireless so I relied on my phone. It's good for most things but not for posting on here.

This week I'm just working one day, cooking one day, driving two, then visiting the family for the holiday. Can't wait to see everyone.

Hope you are enjoying a quiet end to a perfect weekend
