I just started Ideal Protein yesterday. So far, I had a small cheat yesterday and today. For dinner I went to a Mexican place with a friend, and got grilled chicken with salsa and steamed zucchini, but there were 3 tortilla chips sticking out of the top of the chicken which I ate...but didn't have the basket, no queso, no burrito wraps, anything, so I wasn't that upset about the three chips there. Otherwise, followed the diet to the T for the day. This morning I had the chocolate pancakes (yum) but did do a small dollop of the sugar-fat-free 20 cal per dollop cool whip. I sure hope these two little variations aren't going to blow it.

I am getting the IP products from a doctor who lives about an hour away (he's actually my best friends brother) and need to get in my food order for week 2. What are everyone's favorites?

Thanks!!!

You might not like how the diet works for you if you start little cheats already....I was on this for three months before, and the more you stay ton OP, the better your body will reward you...

What a week! I went in for Jury duty on Tuesday and was selected that afternoon. Every night I was finishing a ppt for our trivia nite that was last night. (Had actually planned on working on the ppt at work for a few hours each day but...jury duty!)

Wed, Thurs, Fri for trial. Jury deliberations started about 2:30 Fri and we had a verdict about 4:45. It was a civil case - eminent domain. Our county government was taking land someone was leasing to them on an airport property. Of course the 2 parties were MILLIONS of dollars apart.

We ended up acting as "arbitrators" and finding what we considered a happy medium between the two extremes (but many of us actually thought the land owners should have been asking for double what they really asked us for).

Okay, enough off-IP subject:
The good thing is this: 2 days the judge brought treats for the jury (donuts/cheesecake). I had IP-appropriate food with me (Quest bar, P1 lunch, refillable Brita water bottle, IP vanilla RTD poured in a bottle to use for coffee creamer). Not only did I not have the treats. I didn't WANT them. I wasn't fighting in my mind over having them or not.

This is the piece for me that I believe staying 100% OP for so long has done for me. It removed the desire & the inner negotiations (to have or not have?). Since I stuck to the sheet, there were few choices. Now, faced with them, I choose to eat in the manner that makes me feel the best (starchy carbs puff up my hands & feet :p).

After being on IP so long, I wasn't even tempted. I DID choose to go out to lunch Tuesday with DH who works in the courts bldg & Wed/Fri with the jurors. Just needed a break from the confined space.

There is something to be said for making IP a way-of-life. The day they went for sushi, I ate the lunch I brought (I prefer to eat only wild-caught fish, which is difficult to find in restaurants). The other days I had salads topped with protein. Since I'm on P4, I have a little more leeway with my salads/dressings. But I also discovered the salad I had yesterday was SO flavorful, it didn't even need the dressing I'd ordered on the side. The chicken was well seasoned. It was probably one of the best restaurant salads I'd ever had.

Long story longer ;): Making IP a way-of-life for many months helped me learn how to handle major changes in my routine but to stay OP. Food decisions I'm making today are still so simple. I'm not deciding whether or not to have the things that made me fat in the first place. I just don't. Even on "fun" days (which none of these were), it is becoming more like a fun meal or a fun-food-choice-items within that meal - rather than a hog-wild "world is my oyster" attitude.

At this point, my food avoidance is about keeping the inflammation under control. I notice it immediately in my hands & feet if I eat starches. I'm glad this happens. It is a not-so-gentle reminder to take it easy.

Good morning all: I had my week 13 weigh-in today. The good news is that their fancy scale showed I lost fat and gained a little muscle - yay! (I have started some light toning exercises every day) I know those scales aren't super accurate but I will take it!

The actual scale loss was really small (but still a loss)...and while it is a little bummer, I am choosing not to focus on that one measure. This is a long term journey about my health and my future. I am proud of my long term progress - 37.7 pounds gone - in a little over 3 months. Sweet!

I hope you all have a great weekend.

IP POWER to all! You can do it!

Hello everyone. I'm just checking in after 14 days in the hospital and a weeks recovery at home :( due to a bowel obstruction. Prior to this interruption to my life I had lost 40 lbs now i'm at 52 but I'm a bit lost on what to eat. I need to return to carbs for healing yet I do not wish to gain weight. Everyone says yeah but you lost 12 lbs in the hospital eating nothing you can afford to gain a couple. :( I'm finding as I eat "whatever" i'm lost. I miss the security of knowing what I can and cannot eat. Phase 4 is very vague.. and I still have weight to lose.......what to do. A week of eating whatever has me feeling yuky. SO today I go back on IP products thinking I add healthy carbs and more meat like phase 3 and 4.
I know some of you have been through medical issues and have had to heal and go off HELP PLEASE, all thoughts and direction would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'm miss this diet I loved it and it worked so well for me but it's not healthy for me to be on phase 1 right now. As a matter a fact it is wondered if the fast weight loss and my shrinking is what made the old scar tissue adhear to the bowel. Don't ya love how people want to find a way to make a negative out of your success LOL LOL..

If you read all this thank you, and any advise would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had surgery the first time on IP and did phase 3 for 4 weeks after to promote healing. Tough to heal on phase 1. Can your bowel obstruction handle phase 3 right now? The breakfasts are a bit big.

I don't think so unless I spread it over hours eating it. I've been eating 2 fried eggs on one piece of whole wheat toast, that is all I can handle.

Did you gain weight during that 3 to 4 weeks?
Did you then go back to phase 1 ?

Thank you for sharing!

How about the alternative Phase 1? It was designed for people who have medical issues who can't be on strict P1 (example: diabetes).
The sheet is available in the stickies.
Conventional wisdom says we need starchy carbs, but we really don't. For your healing, however, I see you probably need to limit fiber.
You don't lose as fast on Alt P1 but healing should be the priority at this point, anyway.

I may have gained a couple but there is so much fluid shifting over that time that it is hard to tell. It certainly wasn't a huge amount of gain. I did return to phase 1 afterward.

Whatever you do, don't push the quantity. Listen to your body. You don't want to obstruct again.

Good morning all. I am sorry to hear that some are struggling with health issues and cheats, etc. For those who have been unwell - I am sending you healing thoughts. Pay attention to your body, listen to your physicians and get your rest. This diet will be here when you get back on your feet - it is better to take care of yourself. Just make healthy life choice now that you may not be able to be OP.

As for cheats, even little ones. I know there are a lot of thoughts on this, hence the 100%-ers and the 90%-ers. I haven't weighed in on this - until now. I felt, going through P1, that it was too expensive and too fragile to cheat. To me, 3 chips or a little drink or whatever, where not worth it. Not worth the pain getting into ketosis. Not worth the money lost possibly kicking myself out of ketosis. More importantly, it was not worth sabotaging my dedication, desire and efforts to do this diet - and remove the weight. My 2 cents.

With that, I am on Day 3 of P3 and loved my breakfast. I have let the food settle and am off for a run. Hugs and love to you all.

kcdoe: I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles - no fun at all! I agree with Lisa, your healing comes first so take good care of yourself.

I had hernia surgery about 4 weeks ago (had to have some other work done at the same time) and the doc put me on a low fiber diet to help with the healing. My coach and doc agreed I needed extra protein to promote healing so I upped my intake to 3 unrestricted and 1 restricted a day prior to surgery and then after surgery I continued that since I really didn't feel like eating. I'm back to 3 packs a day and slowly increasing my fiber.

My doctor was fine with the low carbs before, during and after surgery. This is just my experience, be sure to follow what your doctor says - we want you back and healthy as soon as possible!

thank you Swim, I will be careful, that is the one thing the surgeon said as well do not over eat. So har that hasn't been a problem, I can't eat much. But as I heal I'm getting hungrier more often so I can see where it might.

I've also indulged in a little chocolate........stopping that as of last night :( can't return to old habits.

What about doing the alternate phase 1 which allows limite amounts of fruit, bread, and dairy? That's what I had to do my first couple weeks on the program due to some diabetes medication I was on. Might be worth looking into.

I am getting the IP products from a doctor who lives about an hour away (he's actually my best friends brother) and need to get in my food order for week 2. What are everyone's favorites?

Thanks!!!

Hi FLLawgal! Congrats on starting the program. The first week was the toughest for me because I had a lot of withdrawal symptoms: major headaches, dizziness, nausea, but by day 5 of staying 100% OP, it all cleared and I began feeling great. I know those small cheats might not seem like they will make a difference, but they will keep you out of ketosis and from losing weight as quickly and efficiently as possible. I know it sucks at first, but trust me you'll see results if you stick to the plan.

As far as IP foods I like, my favorites are: chocolate drink, mango drink (I put this on the blender with spinach or kale to get my greens in), strawberry banana drink (make green smoothies with this also), wild berry yogurt drink, white cheddar ridges, strawberry wafers, peanut butter bar. There are more, but the ones I really disliked are most of the soups (with the exception of chicken noodle), the pudding (awful grainy texture), veggie chili (almost threw up after eating it), and the fruity, non creamy drinks like the blueberry Pom granita are way too sweet.

Just my two cents and wishing you the best! You can do it. You just have to be very careful and it's probably a good idea to avoid restaurants for awhile until you know what you can and can't eat. :)

Sarita, I so agree with you on the cheats not being worth it. The only cheat I've had was a little half and half in my coffee instead of the skim milk I'm supposed to have and I've realized that it's soo not worth it. I want to be on P1 as briefly as possible, so I'm being very vigilant about what I consume and don't test the waters to see if I'll still lose weight if I cheat a little. I feel like cheating on this only hurts me and prolongs P1. I'm ready to get on with my life, so here's to staying on plan and hitting my goal so that I can do that. Congrats on your weight loss!

Happy weekend, all! :carrot:

Continuing to remain OP and looking forward to WI tomorrow. Last night, I had a great time at the Smithsonian teachers' night with a colleague. Did not even WANT any of the wine or appetizers. Instead of being focused on what to put in my mouth, my friend and I enjoyed a number of exhibits (the butterfly garden was amazing) and even saw an IMAX movie. What amazing things we can do when food is not the focus! ;)

Going to a quarter auction tonight at school with some colleague-friends. I plan to take my own snacks and iced tea with my daily allotment of Splenda. IP really gives us the tools to stick it out!

Still considering my plan to phase off for the holidays. I really only want to lose one more dress size, and I am hoping between the next few weeks of phases 1 and 2, I can get there. If not, I can always do a few weeks of phase 1 after the new year. I know I will be doing that yearly for the rest of my life, anyway. :)

Happy weekend, all!

Happy weekend IPers! I feel so much better and less hungry today. I had a salad last night and cheated with a little bit of low fat balsamic. I don't like the WF products and have really been missing salad funny as it sounds. I'm not sure if I will do this again but am glad it didn't kick me out of ketosis so now I can think about my feelings toward it going forward.

I totally understand the arguments for 100%, but if 95% is sustainable and I still see losses, I am thinking this might be a better for for me. Still thinking about it. Some things I've decided are no nos and I don't plan to eat them: fruit, bread or chips, sugary products. So far I have handled hunger with an extra packet or an extra ounce of protein.

I actually like the granita-- I make it weak and freeze it for a while so it's icy. Diluted it's not as sweet. I also like the wild berry yogurt shake since I are yogurt every day for breakfast before this diet. It usually goes in the freezer for 15 minutes before I eat it too since I like it really cold.

The soy puffs are my restricted item of choice since there are so many and you can make them last for a while. Good if you're feeling munchy.

Hope everyone has a great OP day!

I teach 6, 7, & 8 math, 8 reading/la, and 8 science. Yes, six preps a day. It is killing me and I hate it. I am a certified math and Spanish teacher, so the new subjects are stressing me out BIG TIME.

I started IP the day before school started, so just before Thanksgiving, it will have been three months. How is it going for you?

Six preps, OMG! That is a ton of work, I would be stressed too. School and IP are going well. Have been on IP since Oct. 2, down 24 pounds and 21 inches.

I just started Ideal Protein yesterday. So far, I had a small cheat yesterday and today.

I am getting the IP products from a doctor who lives about an hour away (he's actually my best friends brother) and need to get in my food order for week 2. What are everyone's favorites?

Thanks!!!

I just started OP last Saturday myself, but this is the 2nd time. The first time I only stayed on it to lose 30 lbs. This time I am going all the way.

It is hard to stay 100% OP, but if you put your mind to it and stay focused on your goal the IP plan works. Everytime you cheat you are running the chance of going out of ketosis and then you have to start over again. I don't know what others were told, but I think it takes you like 3 days before your body goes into ketosis and then you start losing the weight.

As far as food goes, I really like the chocolate and vanilla shakes for bfast because I was never a bfast eater. They go down quick with no chewing involved. I like the rotini noodles (I have julienne zucchini, mushrooms, etc. with it), the soups (brocolli, mushroom, chicken a la king and chicken noodle), and I always pick up some sour cream ball things in case I am on the run during lunch. Snacks at night are the dill zippers, apple cinnamon balls....stuff like that. Some people say that you shouldn't eat the restricted food for a snack but I have never not lost the average 2-4 lbs/week. I just like sitting down with a tea after a long day and enjoy a bag of crisps or that new awesome raspberry chocolate bar. I hate dark chocolate but I'll tell you...when you are left with a dark chocolate bar as your only alternative to the real thing...you take it and enjoy every bite....hee hee!!:carrot:

I am so sorry to hear of your surgery, I had the same thing happen to me and it was brutal... the doctor left me for almost 4 days thinking it might fix itself - not.. I don't have any advice except to listen to your doctor and I hope you are feeling better..

~ Sarah

Couldn't agree more....it's not worth it. Love your progress congrats!

You are not the first person that said this. These threads are good to read because they make you think. It is understandable that because you eat the restricted food as a snack, you might hold on to those extra calories, carbs, etc. I just really enjoy the snack with my tea at night. It is my time to sit back with a tea and a treat at the end of the day and relax for a bit, and my coach did not give me any rules about not eating the restricted food as a snack.

I will keep an eye on my weight loss progess this time around to see if I am not losing the average 3 lbs, but I followed this regime last time I was OP and I lost weight consistently with no stalls.:)

I'm allowed to eat mine as a snack but I'm told not to make it the last thing you eat in the evening.... that should be something restricted.

I forgot to say this in my last post, but it is very sad that some of you have to buy a whole box of the same thing....or that is what it sounds like by your posts.

I have been to three different clinics in the area and have never heard of this. When I go pick out my foods, the variety is all there for me to choose. I get to pick by the packet....gives me so much more choice. I am not sure that I could eat the same thing everyday. You must spend so much more money in attempts to get some variety in your meals throughout the week. That's too bad that some clinics run this way...I think it's just a way to make more money and not thinking about their clients. That's too bad...

The suggestions about when to eat the restricted are merely suggestions-or "house rules" by coaches. We don't all live the same lives with the same schedules or even the same activity levels. My coach had some similar suggestions re: veggies. In the end, we all lose weight faster on IP than on
any other plan I ever tried.

Happy Sunday!

Lots to do today- grading, planning, preparing report cards since our trimester ends Friday. It is going to be another busy week!

Happy to report TWO successes in this morning's WI. First, I am down about 3.5 pounds, which is great, since my recent weekly average has been closer to two. Second, I broke into the 140's! YAY! :dancer: :dancer: <-- This is so me today!

Off to the store to get some ingredients. Thinking of tweaking a beef and broccoli crock pot recipe for dinner tonight. Have a great day, IP'ers!

Good morning IPers! I got a new computer yesterday (old one was on the verge of dying), so I'm happy to report that I will probably be tooling around on it all day and not thinking about food.

I used gelatine and turned my blueberry cran granita into jello for lunch-- I'll let you know how it turns out. Every time I drink it, it tastes like jello to me.

I'm happy to report a 100% OP day yesterday-- we had pork chops and green beans for dinner and they were delicious. Today is unseasonably warm for Chicago lately (65 in November?!) so it'll probably be a light salad and grilled chicken day.

Happy sunday everyone, last night my new boyfriend took myself and his daughter to a restaurant....Normandin, being so early on the diet i really didnt want to go there but he was celebrating a year he had guard of his handicapped daughter and so i said ok lets go......

I ordered chicken on a salad no vinigerette....with just water to drink. I i had a wf dressing in my purse so i put that on so no one could see.........but i think the chicken was probably marinated with sugar...So i didnt eat my restricted for a snack and we had walked in the woods for two hours before that...I figured maybe the extra exercise would balance it out...

Well it DID.YIPEEEEEEEEEE lol was down a whole pound this morning....so it shows you that yes we can adapt to certian situations without hurting our new lifestlye too much... plus the boyfriend was happy i could share that celebration with him!!!

Your early losses have been great! No reason to get nervous. Yes, losses do tend to slow down after the initial "woosh" of the water weight, etc. Give yourself a break. If you're following the program 100%, the losses will come. Your goal is a bit less than mine, so expect the losses to be a little slower. That way, if they are, you'll be ready, and if the weight comes off more quickly, it will be a nice surprise. Don't tie yourself to a timeline; your body doesn't care about the schedule in which you want to lose. Just let your body and the program do their thing. You can do it!

kcdoe: I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles - no fun at all!

Ruth Ann that sounds like a good idea to get back to packets for protein and healing I didn't think about that. The extent of my surgeons advise (although he's wonderful) was eat light for a while nothing to spicy. My coach said eat the foods but sad more carbs. Lisa gave me the alternate phases which I love. I just am not very excited about food right now so having the drive to prepare and plan and cook just requires more energy then I have right at the moment.

How are you now? All healed? :?:

I followed P1 100% with a lot of help from my 3FC friends. I stuck with the 10%ers and learned from them.

I consider ALL quest bars restricted (2 are "on the fence" so I count as restricted).

The peanut butter bar I consider to be non-IP compliant at over 200 calories.

Moving into phase three my coach's daughter got really sick and she kind of left us, she had to fix her life and blance her buisness, so I didnt phase off right. Slowly two years of shoving everything i wanted in my mouth not checking my health it came back.

I just want to set a goal that seems realisitic. When we are older. I am 53, our tissue isint the same, etc, I dont want to have saggy skin. I do weights now and will get back to my jogging. I want to find a weight that i look healthy and feel good. Something that I can be proud to maintain. If I go to low in weight all my wrinkles will show more lol. I have to find that balance what is a good number for me and as well my doctor.
I think everyone has different reasons for their goals. I have a pretty good size chest, even at 17, so me at 130 would be like walking boobs lol

Even if when we reach that goal, maybe we will stay there for a bit....take a break and see if we can maintain for a bit then go back for 10-15 more pounds. We will know what we have to do to go down more....plus it is like a cleaning out of our bodies too.....eatting healthy. All this water is so good for our complexions.....but I still know that mother nature is stronger lol..We have different body types. Some are more lean, some are more curvy, taller, shorter....as long as we are happy and healthy, what more could we ask for right!
