Happy Friday everyone, I have a question.. does alcohol sugar as affect anyone else negatively? I am asking because I bought some Dr/ Bersteins's protein bars and I noticed after my digestive system didn't like them that they have alcohol sugar and wonder if that could be it? I am doing alternatives but won't be having those again...

Sugar alcohols are notorious for gastro upset
Some worse than others.
You might want to spend some time reading about them online to learn which ones are the least...um...intrusive on the system.

Good AM Everyone!

This past week or two has been nuts at work that I've had zero energy to log onto my personal computer, so much, after work. Also have been under the weather this week but with plenty of rest, I think I'm kicking these cold/flu symptoms to the curb. Doesn't mean I haven't been thinking of you! I hope everyone has been well and I'll do some review this weekend so I can catch up and hear about everyone's NSV's and losses. Looking forward to reading and HAPPY FRIDAY!!! :coffee: :dust:

Good morning IPeeps!!

Today is the day I start my road trip with my sister!! I am sad that I will miss my weigh-in, but it will be nice to see a bigger two week loss all at once when I get home (and not scale hop every day while I'm away!)

The reason for our road trip is to follow the last leg of our all-time favorite bands tour!!! HANSON!! (yes, they are still around :p Been a fan since I was 14). 7 concerts in 9 days!! Going to be amazing!! Not to mention I won a meet and greet for Sunday with my sister who is only coming to two shows, my other sister won one for Tuesday, and she also won one for both of us for Thursday!!

Perhaps this is the time I get a picture with them that I am happy with the way I look in it!! Going to have a lot of scrapbooking to do when I get home!!

I am all packed up, including extra protein packs in case of emergency!

I hope everyone has a great week ahead and I look forward to hearing of everyone's successes when I get back!!!!

Good morning Ipeeps!
It's a rough morning... I have a Stat's exam in about an hour, bleh..
On another note, Aunt Flo and me are not friends.... I'll take what I got for WI though, -1.6.
I will be happy if I survive this exam....
Have a marvelous weekend everyone!

This is a big busy weekend for the casino and Imalready feeling anxious. Gonna be a couple of xanax kind of day probably. :(
Already the drama has started, send me positive vibes ya'll I'm gonna need it!

Days like these are my hardest, I struggle to maintain control of my emotions and my eating. Anxiety is a trigger for me, and spirals into eating junk because my brain thinks it will soothe.

I'm going to prepare my lunch bag as normal and hope for the best.

Ugh. Those kinds of days are always my worst eating days-- I haven't been on IP long enough to have a day like that on the program (thankfully) but hang in there! Drink some tea and take some "you" time.

Morning all!
Doing well...! Weigh in yesterday went well with 2 more pounds gone. However, my coach basically told me to go off plan for my Mexico trip in 2 weeks....she is phasing me off. I was undecided when I got there and she told me I paid the money to go and enjoy an all inclusive and I should go nuts. She said she could almost guarantee I wouldn't gain any fat...and it would all be salt and sugar weight. She said I would have to eat like crap every single day for a month to do any real damage and that she couldn't expect her clients to stay OP during vacation when she sure doesn't. She said I would come back, get right back on and was confident I could drop another 20 by the holidays.
I don't know what to think of that.
Thoughts?

Yikes! I am new to IP but I do not like any of that! Sure, go off plan and eat some nice meals. Eat AT meal time and enjoy reasonable portion of what you want. I don't like the idea of going nuts EVER as it relates to food. I think that would create some unhealthy habits.

My mother did the metabolic research center program (and had temendous success), and when my folks took a three week trip to Norway/Denmark, her coach told her to enjoy reasonably. So she had one glass of wine, or one small portion of dessert. I know she ate a lot of cheese with my cousins, but since they did a lot of walking she didn't put on weight. I don't think she did any crazy eating or ate unreasonable portions though.

Enjoy yourself, sure. Eat things you've missed and get your money's worth, but I think that can be done without fully indulging.

Exactly. She makes it a "free for all" when she goes on vacation, but she also weighs about 105 pounds and has never had food issues. I need to maintain some sense of control. I actually don't like that she told me that at all...it's like telling saying to an alcoholic "Go and drink until your heart's content...I always do...but I am not an alcoholic."

I am going to have a healthy breakfast and lunch and enjoy something I want at dinner. I am also going to try to stay low carb as much as possible, even for dinner.

Good morning!

Quick question. Today is my 3rd full week on IP. I have been fine the whole time except the last two days. I have been experiencing really bad crampson my low stomache. It is not my TOM. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before.

I think that's a much better plan than a free for all. My vacation "off plan" is usually "reasonable alcohol, try to stay away from dessert, fill up on protein and be reasonable with anything else." I went on two vacations while I lost my first 30lbs (not on IP) and that kept me from gaining weight.

I think staying low carb is good since it'll make it easier for you to go back on IP when you get back from vacation. I think most of us *know* what a healthy portion of anything is, it's just a matter of being disciplined and not eating more. So since you've been on IP for a while you can handle a vacation, but I wouldn't go on vacation with the plan of eating your heart out. I think you have the right attitude.

Good morning fellow IPers. It's Friday!!! :)

Quick NSV: Yesterday I had a friend over for coffee who I saw about 1 1/2 weeks ago and she noticed that I have lost weight! Yeah it's finally showing. PLUS...this morning, my daughter told me I looked skinny! That's a lot coming from a 16 year old girl. I know I'm not skinny, yet, but it's nice to know that people are finally noticing my hard work!

Feeling pretty good this morning! Hope it carries on all weekend long.

My first weigh-in was yesterday (after 9 days on IP). Lost 10 pounds and 5 overall inches! :carrot: 1 inch alone in my thighs which I could tell, as my pants are super baggy in my legs already...never would have expected that!

Now I'm on a weight loss high and going to expect huge numbers each week :dizzy: Though I know that's not realistic so I REFUSE to get down on myself if I have a 3 pound loss! Any other diet plan, 3 pounds would be HUGE, but on this one, it gives me a (bad) sense that the #s should be higher! Any loss is a good loss though. Finally got to pick my own food out and am done with that starter bag!

It's so nice to hear that you are having such good results! I sure do hope I lose an inch around my thighs. I weigh myself every morning (always have) and the scale read 177 this morning. I will count next week's WI as "official" but it's encouraging to be out of the 180s.

Did you wind up buying three boxes that you will eat all week or did you go ahead and buy more? And more importantly, what did you get?

I, too, weigh myself every morning so they were wondering why I wasn't screaming from excitement at my 10 pound loss! lol I told them I already knew :)

Ah, 177 (or even 180's). How I cannot WAIT to be there!! Congrats!!!

I ended up being able to buy 5 boxes. My husband laughed when he saw them! I got cappuccino, chocolate drink, pina colada drink, chocolate brownie and chocolate soy puffs. LOL Yes I really do like the chocolate stuff and if I am allowed to have a chocolate drink for lunch, then I will!! :) I also traded packet for some of the unrestricted Garlic Soy Crisps! I'm glad my clinic does have a swap basket!

I'm thinking about buying five boxes as well. Did the cappuccino "foam" seem a little powdery to you? I liked the flavor but I wonder if I could improve it by letting it sit and settle for a few minutes.

You have a bunch of sweest stuff! But I guess that makes sense since veggies and meat fall more into the "savory" bucket. So far my favorite has been the wildberry yogurt smoothie. Also had the blueberry cran granita this morning and I think it's a winner. I'm looking for some smoothies I can sneak spinach and kale into since I'm a crappy vegetable eater.

I'm not sure we have a swap basket-- I guess I'll find out next week.

I bought two boxes of Quest bars on the GNC sale so I think I'm going to use those as my "restricted" at least until I get a little IP inventory built up.

I'm wearing some Banana Republic size 12s today that were too snug two weeks ago (couldn't cross my legs comfortably!). Feels good to be able to wiggle!

LOL That is hilarious!!!

I have had this username since I've been 12... it used to be my AOL name and I have since just used it for EVERYTHING. People always think it just means "Its" as in "Its Roxy!" (that's not my name... I also loved Roxy Quiksilver at the time) lol but it's secretly Hanson :)

Happy Friday Everyone! Being in Canada we have Monday off as well..yay for long weekends! I am in such a good mood and in great spirits. Feel full of energy and life. I think its going to be a "dig through the house" kinda week. Love gutting out :) I snuck on the scale this morning cause I was feeling tinier (if that makes sense) and I am!! Wont tell or post numbers till Monday though.

Anyway, off to do some digging/gutting out - Hope you all have a wonderful Friday!!!

Yes I tended to like all the sweet stuff lol but some was too sweet for me! I"d rather sample things I haven't tried yet through the swap basket before I purchase a whole box.

Funny you ask about the cappuccino.. I just finished one and was thinking the same thing! My first cup didn't seem to have a lot of thick foam that settled on the bottom (I think I drank it pretty fast). I was drinking this one slower and tried to drink the thick foam that settled and noticed it was kind of gritty!

I really want to try that wildberry yogurt smoothie! It's funny how things I think are repulsive are other people's favorites... so it's hard to take people's words when they say things are good :) I am also going to start buying Quest bars just to save on money!

Good morning everyone,

been a crazy week for me. i may have broken my thumb on sunday so spent the evening in emerg. then had to travel for work the next day. ended up having to get an xray in a small town that no one even knew they had an xray machine.

i can't write as it is my left hand and cant really do much. typing is brutal!

so i've been off ip for the last few days as i can't cook for myself and at restaurants, i have to order food that i can eat with one hand. so salads were good but protein has been a challenge. good news, not up so far but i expect no losses this week. home now so dh can cook for me.

i have to have a second xray next week to confirm whether it's broken.

otherwise i am feeling great and enojying my new size 14 pants!

have a great weekend everyone.

The Quest bars were a really nice savings on the 30% off sale. Keep an eye out for another one. I looked at some other protein bars at Costco the other day and nothing looked compliant.

It's too bad you aren't a little closer and we could swap packets. :) I am definitely going to buy the smoothie. Not sure what else yet-- I am keeping a lot of my reaction to everything I eat. I like the bars but they are kind of triggers for me-- makes me want to eat more or compliment sweet with salty. I'm hoping the Quest bars aren't.

I actually liked the chicken soup a lot and am planning to make it with a little extra water/NF stock next time and add chicken pieces and veggies. We don't have a micro at home though so I definitely need more drinks/puddings than soups.

I have the worst migraine today and am struggling to want to eat anything. My bag of cucumbers is staring at me and honestly I just don't want anything to do with it. Good news: I don't want anything to do with the Dunkin Donuts in the break room either.

I am right there with you on the gutting. I am motivated because I want to have nearly the entire upper level of my house painted including closets, and I couldn't see dragging all of the junk out and then putting it all back in! So I have been busy which keeps my mind from wandering to food too much and it also helps to have a dead line to actually get the job done. Good luck with yours!

Love reading about everyone's victories today.

Just got back from my first weigh in....im down 7.8 lbs!!!! And 5.5 inches on my waist alone! Im so happy i found IP. My daughter and I are doing this together and she lost 5 lbs. Down side is that it cost me $278 for food this week (we bought a few walden farms dressings and an extra case of ready made vanilla for coffee as well as our packets). I may need a 2nd job for this but so far we love it!!!

It is expensive, I am looking at alternatives, and have found a few places to order on line that are comparible, but way less expensive. In Canada you can try lowcarbcanada.com or lowcarbgrocery.com

Morning all!
Thoughts?

While I personally agree that you should go off plan and enjoy your vacation, I don't agree with your coaches assertion that you would have to eat like crap every single day for a month to do any real damage. I have seen friends gain 15 lbs on a 7 day cruise. No lie! What about focusing on lower carbs and lots of fresh veggies on your trip (but make sure the veggies are cooked, salad washed in water in Mexico can cause Revenge). You could then enjoy the local flavor, have the energy to explore and enjoy activities (which you would not have the strength for on IP) and hopefully maintain or only have to deal with a slight gain.

Have you been so OP that you aren't getting enough fat/calories? Are you one who doesn't eat the restricted items?

Some people's bodies go into starvation mode around 700 calories. Have a fattier cut of steak or salmon for a few days and see if your body is happier.

Despite what is written on the P1 sheet, two teaspoons of oil are not enough for some people. Depending on the combination of veggies, meats, and packets you choose, you could be getting as little as 500 calories.

It can't hurt to try having a few real eggs and fattier proteins for a few days. It may remind your body that it isn't starving and it will see higher calories again, making it more willing to let go of stored fat.

Good morning IPeeps!!

Today is the day I start my road trip with my sister!! I am sad that I will miss my weigh-in, but it will be nice to see a bigger two week loss all at once when I get home (and not scale hop every day while I'm away!)

Have a great time. I sure hope you get Tons of great pics!

Feel better! I have been down and out for a few days, too. Yuck!

This is a big busy weekend for the casino and Imalready feeling anxious. Gonna be a couple of xanax kind of day probably. :(
Already the drama has started, send me positive vibes ya'll I'm gonna need it!

Sending positive thoughts your way. You can do it! Hang in there!

Congrats! Yes, definitely be aware that your numbers won't always be that high. In fact, three pounds is a decent average number once you are beyond those first few weeks.

been a crazy week for me. i may have broken my thumb on sunday so spent the evening in emerg. then had to travel for work the next day. ended up having to get an xray in a small town that no one even knew they had an xray machine.

otherwise i am feeling great and enojying my new size 14 pants!

have a great weekend everyone.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I hope it feels better soon. Enjoy your new pants!

My belly does not tolerate sugar alcohols very well at all. Gassy tummy!

Your weight loss shows that attitude is serving you very well. Congratulations.

Sugar alcohols are notorious for gastro upset
Some worse than others.
You might want to spend some time reading about them online to learn which ones are the least...um...intrusive on the system.

Thanks, I will, and plan to stay away from them..

Sounds like you have lots of fun time ahead, enjoy!! You will have to share some pics of your adventures :)

I just had the share a huge NSV for me. I saw my doctor Wednesday and all he kept saying to me is "impressive" and he had to do a double take when he saw me. I saw him in July right before I started IP. He also had me go for lab draws. Based on the labs he took me off all my medications, cholesterol, BP... I am so happy to be healthy again, all thanks to IP.

I hope everyone has a great day and weekend.

I would say good luck but on this diet you don't need it, so instead I'll just say have fun and enjoy the journey with us. We are all here for each other.

Cool experience with your doctor! That must have felt great.

I saw my doctor for the first time 2 weeks ago since starting IP last February. She has been my doctor since 2006 and has seen me hover right around 300 pounds the entire time. She has always been gentle but straightforward about my weight and has encouraged me to try to lose just 10 pounds a year. So when I saw her 2 weeks ago, I was 80 pounds lighter than the last time she saw me!!! I was fully expecting her jaw to hit the floor when she saw me. I was looking forward to it! Well she said nothing and there was no reaction on her face! What?! I had to bring it up!! "you know I've lost 80 pounds..." She said "I saw that" I was hoping for a little "party" with her in the exam room. It was very disappointing!

Stalled? For how long?
A true stall would be at least 4 weeks of no scale or measuring tape change.

If you have lost 3/4", you haven't stalled. Measurement is not only scale, it is also measuring tape. Sometimes the inches come off spots not being measured...

My former doctor was a jerk like that too.
Note: former.
Lost me as a customer...er...patient over that. I expect better treatment than that, especially from someone who had talked to me about my weight more than once...
Remember, these people aren't doing us a favor being our doctors. We are the customers. We can find someone with more compassion/empathy.

I am similar weight and losses yes, so it does feel good when friends, family and coworkers start seeing changes in your size.:D I cheer you on for the weekend.
