Phew, made it through Halloween... Now I just need to figure out plans for Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years. If I sail through these holidays as I did this week, I'll be so proud of myself!

Holidays are tough, everything is revolved around food, so it seems, and I need to remember to continue to use the tools IP gives us, as well as all you guys on 3FC, to navigate through them 100% OP. I gotta say, it's empowering not to give in to temptation. Maybe not so much in the moment but, say, hours later when I've had time to step back and re-evaluate my victories.

For me, in the past, the holidays served as an excuse to over indulge and I know I do NOT want to feel that out of control ever again.

How do you guys intend to make it through the next two months of holiday cheer??

:dust: :turkey: :hohoho: :newyear: :dust:

Just catching the news.. My heart goes out to all of those people affected by the latest torrential storms that are floating around the Mid-West area(s) and other parts of the States.. Sending strength your way...

It's the real life heavy stuff that makes my small menial hurdles amount to a speck of what all of these folks are going through who are affected by natural disasters.. This stuff puts it all into perspective.. Just wish it didn't have to happen and hurt those around us.

One day at a time..

Peace & Hugs to All :val1:

Road Trip!
Headed to Michigan for the weekend for a big football game.

Tailgating tomorrow. DH asked me what the plan was. I told him I'm not planning as tightly as before. He looked at me wide-eyed. We ARE bringing a veggie tray and extra GREEN veggies. I'll eat the grilled meats with no bun. I made some sugar-free gelatin treats. The focus will be on connecting with the people and not on the excessive food/beverages.
These have just become habits. A few P1 days are planned next week to off-set unplanned tailgate Saturday. Today will be VLC. Spinach smoothie for breakfast.

We will bundle up as warmly as we can. It is supposed to be pretty chilly.

How do you guys intend to make it through the next two months of holiday cheer??
The same way I did last year. Have an OP plan for each day. Remove the food/beverage focus. Make the holiday about connecting with the people and not about the food. A few tastes of the food will be there next year. My fat won't :D.

This year (past year for me) is about learning new behaviors, new relationships with food, and new reactions around excessive food. We don't have to eat ourselves sick or eat ourselves through the day. It really isn't about the food. Find a different focus. Connect with the people around you instead!

I always had sparkling water with Mio for special occasions. I mashed rutabaga. I learned how much I can really live without. It isn't about what your don't get to have, it is about the abundance of family and friends. Enjoy them without focusing on the food.

Every day when I see people saying they can't live without some particular food item I remember something I was told in Overeater's Anonymous one time: you just made that your god. Give it up for a bit and see how free you actually feel!!!!

Good morning, all! It is a very windy day, with high wind warnings. My poor dogs didn't even want to go outside for a pee!

Hope everyone made it through Halloween, 100% OP! By the end of the evening when it was dying down, I started giving out candy by the handfuls! I saved just enough for my husband to snack on over the weekend since he gets home today!!!

Have a great Friday!!!!

Congrats to you and all IPers...or anyone who is dieting in some fashion, for getting through the Hallowed Eve of Chocolate...!!!

If you have been on some kind of weight loss program, the holidays are a test. If you have lost enough to need a new "something" to wear "somewhere"...then let that be your motivation.

This was a thing that helped me...may not be everyones panacea...but for some...maybe!!
When I was losing...my adult daughters encouraged me to shop and buy something and as they said..."Invent" an occasion to wear it if necessary...it was good advice for me...and helped me NEVER to feel I was deprived. Changing the way you feel about yourself is empowering...and a powerful motivator.

Shopping (Again, for me this absolutely included window shopping ... meaning a few hrs of trying on stuff I had no intention of buying...) all of a sudden, turned into amazingly equal combo of an ego boost... and motivating event for the first time in way over a long time.

Seriously...leave the dishes in the sink for a few hrs... the towels in the dryer and GO. Resale shops, mall...wherever you can touch feel and try on. No on line shopping. Yet. You need that visual of you...in something new and exciting. Plus..you have no idea of size. On line anonymous shopping is what we did when we knew it was going to be depressing to go to a shop or the mall...Honestly. You don't need to buy til your ready. But imagine yourself someplace where you can look different than you did before you started this venture. Imagination is a big part of discovering the future.

Go find your future....

Good Morning everyone :)

Ok this week was a challenge for me, I managed 2 days of 100% and the rest my wagon broke into a million bits!

BUT today I stepped on my scale only to learn that I dropped 4 lbs :carrot:

I am shooting for more and more OP, for me it's baby steps but I will get there hope soon!

Have a great Friday everyone :D

Lisa - YOU would make the most fabulous coach ever!! Everything you say right here is going in my IP Journal. These are thoughts to revisit again and again both along and off the IP journey. I'm going to start evaluating my behavior with food a little bit more. The more comfortable I become with this program, the easier it is to step back and shed some light on what I'm learning.

"It's about connections, building memories and not about what you don't have rather, what we do"...All rings fruitfully true, I want to package this entry up and shout it out to the IP world on your behalf, again and again. This is very valuable real life info ~ thanks for your support and share.

Have a nice day, Lisa and All other kind IP'ers!

I like what your daughters suggest in regards to "invent" an occasion.. I really like that! I'm similar in a sense where shopping has become a source of empowerment... Maybe not so much in my wallet but, it certainly has a way of boosting my confidence. When I look and feel good, my confidence gets a soaring boost and that helps me every moment of the day.. Have a great time at the game!! Sounds so fun, especially when you are prepared!!

Thanks for all the tips. I personally know I WILL succeed Thanksgiving, but that little negative monster is still there and by staying prepared I will get through with flying colors. I can't wait to see my family!!

Road trip this weekend to family event that is completely about food. I know. I'm crazy. It's called a Cochon De Lait. AKA: Pig Roast. That's right, every family member and friend (about 80 people) bring their own dish and we have a massive 'food court' all day and into the LSU game. Have no fear! My cousin and mom are on IP and we're bringing our own veggies to throw on the grill and making a big OP salad in hopes that people stop by our table and share the healthy goodness. My uncle was planning to bbq so I am not worried about falling off the wagon since I have a support system with me! Here in LA the weather is dipping into the 60's and our satsumas are ripening up. I think that's what I'll miss this fall!

Also, my cousin and I tried the pumpkin meringue in recipe 4 thread last night. Pretty good for the upcoming holidays! Although, I would recommend adding the normal water amount on the packet. Not what is in the recipe. I also didn't use my shaker-just a fork and bowl! We omitted the meringue because with the amount of stevia we had to put in it, it tasted horrible!

Have a great day and weekend everyone!

Thank-You, and you are welcome. It's also really important to recognize the same thing may not motivate anyone the same on any given day. Good reason for creating and having a small notebook to remind you of all the good reasons you are on this train...and want to stay.

Your own reasons and reading the variety of suggestions of your peers here will help you if you are honest and open.

Each day is different...and MORE IMPORTANTLY you are too! The day to day change is incredible. Let it never stop! It's all good

I agree with what 65x65 stated. Going shopping and trying on clothes is one of the most motivating things for me. I love seeing the changes in my body, and yet it is motivating to me to continue on plan and working hard when I see how much better things will look in just another 10lbs or few inches. :)

Happy Friday IPers!

Kcdoe, I saw that you posted in yesterday's thread that you are in the hospital. Sending you healing thoughts for a speedy recovery.

Shrinkingsusie, your hubby rocks, flowers will brighten any day and he did it from the field to boot!

Sarahbell, just keep taking it one day at a time, before you know it you'll be saying I just made it a whole week 100%!

Thanks everyone for all the great insights today! 65x65 I love the invent an occasion idea. Dr. Berkley (Refuse to Regain) suggests wearing "revenge clothes" on Holidays to remind us how hard we worked to get into the smaller sizes and looking good will feel better than the food, now I will have to make up more occasions to wear the revenge clothes!

Good morning Ipeeps!
So despite my HORRIBLE day yesterday (I didnt eat off plan, I just didn't get a second to eat at all until around 10PM last night) I still managed to have a great week, even being sick...
WI this morning was a -5.6 lb meltage!
Was not expecting it, since I expected a slow down (and still do, because I know its coming) and especially since Ive been sick....
Have a marvelous weekend!

For me, in the past, the holidays served as an excuse to over indulge and I know I do NOT want to feel that out of control ever again.

How do you guys intend to make it through the next two months of holiday cheer??

I think the advice outlined by Lisa and 65x65 definitely speak to what's in my heart. Family and health are the most important; as I get closer to 40, I realize that I want to be around a lot longer! Losing my brother unexpectedly last year at age 49 coupled with being super sick and at my heaviest this past May really hit me over the head and got me jump started. I worked really hard at eating better and exercising this summer, dropping about twelve pounds before even starting IP. Then a friend introduced me to this IP program, at it has changed my life! I feel like I can handle maintenance, as I was doing really well eating better and exercising in the months before starting IP. Being able to make more memories with my family is my biggest motivation for keeping good habits and not overdoing it during the holidays.

Road Trip!

Have a great time! Sounds like you have a plan in place to remain successful.

I agree 100%! Food is for sustaining your body; relationships sustain your soul. Focus on that during the holidays. Now, it is easy to say that now! Those tempting foods will be there at the holidays, and there are certain traditional dishes that are a part of the celebration. For me, it is also about tweaking the recipes and going in with a plan to enjoy myself responsibly! I like the sparkling water mocktails, as I am sure one glass of wine will be more than enough when I am in maintenance.

Love this! I know my girlfriends will love taking me out and dressing me up when I hit goal! I have even gotten a few things to fit my changing body, mostly at Goodwill (cuz I can't bear to or afford to spend full price on something that will only be worn for a few weeks!) We will window shop, but they will also help me find the bargains when I need to replace my wardrobe. How fun!

Hi, all!

Sitting here by the fire with me tea nursing myself through a sick day, my first this year. That throat tickle/ sinus thing is paying me a visit. Guess the good thing is I don't have much of an appetite. I did make a version of Lisa's chicken soup last night (yum!) and will have another serving for lunch. Hopefully rest and hot beverages will help me feel better by Monday!

Have a great weekend, all. Looking forward to WI on Sunday!

I LOVE this. So true - for the past five years I have hated clothes shopping with a passion. Because everything looked horrible. I had this vision of myself which simply didn't match my reality. I'm not quite ready to go buy new clothes yet - but I've been shopping in my closet and wearing things I had put in the back thinking I'd never wear them again. And now I am. So excited for the new me, and the new wardrobe.

Made it through Halloween, had over 100 kids at the door so managed to get rid of most of the candy. But then my 11 year old came back with a huge pillowcase full of the stuff she'd collected. Ugh. I hate seeing her eating it. I'll let her go for it today, but then the rest will quietly disappear to the office. It's a fine line trying to educate my kids with what I'm learning on the program, and not having them rebel - but I don't want them to face the same weight challenges that I have in their later life. They're both athletes, slim and trim like my husband (who is a triathlete and a marathoner) so they kind of think they're invincible - and maybe they did win the genetic lottery. But they also have my taste for food :)

Another challenge this weekend - I'm leaving tonight for my annual trip to the Banff Film Festival with my sisters. But I have my travel kit ready, and a plan for the restaurants, so I am ready to go!

Question for the alt folks. Who uses the premier protein RTD's? I bought acase of the snack size ones to keep myself from getting burnt out on the EAS french vanilla. My Sam's is so inconsistant on their stock! Last time i was there they ha the EAS chocolate now only frnech vanilla! Anyway does the premier protein fit iP stats?

Hi all. Happy Friday. I am plugging away here in SF and ready for the weekend. Tonight I am breaking down and celebrating my victories by purchasing a quilted vest. I have a coupon and love the vest so -- I am going to pamper myself a little bit. This weekend is full of cleaning out closets, shoes, snowboarding equipment, cleaning house, reading and volunteering for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society/ Team in Training. Looking forward to riding my bike, doing some walking and hanging out.

Deana - Congrats!!!! I am very happy you made your 1st goal! Keep up the good work!

Good morning fellow IPers. So nice to read some inspiring and thoughtful posts this morning.

I'm back on IP 100% now that our vacation is over. A couple of pounds gained but overall I was happy and relaxed on this trip. We were in the country so I did nothing but relax, enjoy the fall colours and bake (for others), which I love to do and have missed since being on IP.

A small NSV at the end of our trip. I knew that I had gained a couple of pounds, could just feel it. We went to a clothing store where dh was looking for some boots. They also had women's clothes and just for fun, I went and looked. There was a cute sweater that I thought I'd try on (no intention of buying as I wanted to wait until I lost a bit more to buy clothes). Thinking it would never fit, I grabbed the large and it did. So I bought it!! Totally inspired me to keep on trucking on IP!

First weigh in tomorrow so I'm thinking I'll be back to my weight before I left. I hope there's a Christmas challenge as I'd like to see how much more I can lose before Christmas!

I have a bachelorette party this evening!! No alcohol for me though as I've secretly been asked by the groom to take care of his bride because SHE will have PLENTY of drinks tonight, lol.

Today I'm wearing size 16 Diva cut jeans by old navy and a slim cut button down shirt I haven't worn in 4 years and 3 inch heels!!!! I feel so good!! I've been 100% OP since I got back from vacation and I honestly think this week I'll hit the 30lb mark (i hope, i hope).

I'm actually hungry now because I messed up my breakfast...I thought I grabbed a chocolate pancake package but it was chocolate pudding. I only added a small amount of water (to make a muffin) but the pudding clumped up (not very pudding-like). Oh well, it's almost lunch time.

Have a great day Lovelies!!!!!

Can't believe I made it through Halloween without one treat! I think **** just may have frozen over! This week has been crazy at work with so many treats coming in from patients and a pizza lunch yesterday. Managed to stay OP since starting 13 days ago. Congrats to those IP'ers who also made it through Halloween!

Just reading the late posts from yesterday's daily thread - some people mentioning Chef Verati in Regina - is he on a road trip? Where can you find the schedule? If he comes to Calgary I would love to go to see him.

Kathy

Ya he is in Regina on monday - not sure if there is a schedule? - I couldnt find anything online - maybe one of the clinics in Calgary would know?

Have fun on your Banff weekend!
We have our girls weekend this weekend too - we are going after work and I have my supper precooked to eat when they drive thru wherever and my IP food and dressing ready for the rest of the weekend :)
kinda sad that I wont be drinking - but hey - at least they will have a designated driver - and there is always next year!

Can't believe I made it through Halloween without one treat! I think **** just may have frozen over! This week has been crazy at work with so many treats coming in from patients and a pizza lunch yesterday. Managed to stay OP since starting 13 days ago. I have weigh in today and I think I'm down a couple pounds..?

Congrats to those IP'ers who also made it through Halloween!

Great job! I too made it through the day with no treats/cheats! Packed up all the leftover candy this morning and mailed a care package to my son in college. He and his friends will definitely enjoy it and it's out of the house so I don't have to risk the temptation!

Renee

I have the exact same thing today! I'd love some chicken soup, but I'm too cranky and tired to go buy some chicken. May try to sweet talk a family member into dropping one of those pre-cooked ones by. Does anyone know if the "plain" ones (with no sauces or special flavorings) are ok to use?

Hope you feel better QUICK! :)

Same to you!

I used a plain rotisserie chicken and just removed the skin. As far as I know, they are fine to use.

I use them, two daily, but I use the full size (can't find the snack sizes here). Some say it's too much protein for IP (full size have 30g), but so far it has been working just fine for me. I have one for breakfast, one for lunch and then a bar for snack. If I could get the snack size, I would likely switch to those, but for now I will just stick with what I have been doing since it's working. :)

Normal!! Some weeks you'll find you lose pounds but no inches, other weeks you may lose inches but no pounds, and of course, sometimes both! Keep trucking and you'll get there, and welcome aboard!

Hi everyone!

I am just starting out on the IP diet, and right now I'm not feeling real good. Headache and just downright tired. Did anyone else have any problems with they first started on IP?

I hear ya...look at my numbers below. Seems like ever since week 1, I'm not losing many inches...and some weeks I lose weight and even GAIN inches. My coach said people tend to average 0.5-1.0 inches for every pound lossed. But she said sometimes when you don't see inches dropping on the scale it's because the weight is just shifing around in your body.

Hang in there, and good luck!

It's day 13 and just had my 2nd WI. 4.2 pounds down for a total of 9.2! I am so happy! I know the losses will be slowing down now but this makes all the grumpiness of the last 2 weeks worth it. Woohoo!

Hi dylsma and welcome!

Feeling tired and headachy the first few days is totally normal - for most people it passes within a week.

Make sure you are getting all your salt, it can really help with the headache. I put salt in my palm and just licked it off followed by a lot of water - headache went away really quickly. Be sure you're getting all your water in too - it really helps flush things out.

Hang in there - it won't last long.

Hi! :)
I felt pretty awful the first 4 days or so....some people feel bad for over a week. Like Ruthann said, keep drinking lots of water and be sure to get the salt in. I also had to just lick some from my palm one time when the headache got bad enough. It REALLY DOES get better. Just stay the course and once you're into ketosis, it gets MUCH easier.

I just had my consultation today and am so excited to start! We had big mac in a bowl for dinner tonight....wonderful recepie I found on here and everyone even loved the WF thousand island dressing. Im about to try the strawberry wafers for my snack tonight :). Hubby is eating chocolate right now...so annoying but im not going to let him bother me!

hope everyone is ready for another IP weekend! Currently waiting for my cauliflower tater tots to be out of the oven, can't wait to try them! The recipe called for 3 table spoons of egg whites, should i have used that in place of a packet? didn't think of it until i had already had my 3rd packet for the day.

wonder if i have a little less chicken if it will even out. thoughts?

Glad to hear you are home and on track! I was thinking of you as my boss flew into town and I have to go out for two meals a day when he's here. It was challenging as he's not someone I'm not comfortable to explain my 'plan' in detail. I did my usual extra meat with the meals and then a packet less during the day. I know its not 'ideal' (excuse the pun!) But I did the best I could and I was able to stay OP on his second day here. We do what we can!

Hope you have a great OP weekend now that you are home:cheer2::cheer2::cheer3:

The little bit of egg white will be fine, no need to have less chicken with your meal. I have seen others add one, possibly two egg whites with out any other adjustment to their day in the past. I would say your fine.

Hi fellow IP'ers
Today is my first day starting IP again. I did it a few months ago for about two weeks and honestly just got so fed up with eating the same things over and over again that I eventually gave in and starting eating whatever I wanted again.. With that being said, I gained everything I lost back plus more :(
Anyways.. if anyone has any good recipes to mix things up id really appreciate anything!!

Congratulations on deciding to return and welcome back! No reason to get bored on IP!!! Just check out the first post of the daily thread and you will find a ton of links to a ton of recipes using the packets. There are also other websites and blogs not associated with 3FC that contain an endless supply of ideas. For instance, I wanted to try to use the tomato basil soup packet to make bread, so I googled this and sure enough, there was a recipe! Have fun experimenting, and if you need any help, be sure to ask.
