..I'm leaving for my WI in a moment and I just started TOM. I am wondering how that affects your Scale Victories? All of this time, I have always been at the tail end of TOM at the time of WI so the scale was always reading nicely but now, at the beginning, I am fearing the retention kicking in and I don't want this to have an adverse affect. What has your experience been?

Thanks IP'ers have a splendid day! :coffee2:

Good morning: I am working on an attitude adjustment today. I'm feeling a little annoyed with the scale, the weather, the traffic...
I seem to have somewhat of a pattern in my losses - better week, just ok week, better week, etc. Today is my weigh in (later) for a 'just ok week' so I'm just struggling a little to find the joy.
I do - somewhere in my thick head - know that a loss is a loss and that this IS working. (Marathon, not a sprint) It is just so much more enjoyable to have the "better week" loss. (All of them 100% OP btw)
Eh. Just having 'a day'.
I think there may be a break in the rain - in which case I'm going to take a walk to try to clear the grumpy.
Sorry for the vent but thanks for 'listening'. I appreciate that I am not alone in the struggle.
Have a great Saturday all!

Hi vachinyc - I tooootally hear where you are coming from and kudos for hitting the boards to vent; we are here for you good or bad.

I've been having those 100% OP just mediocre WI's as well and while it proves a tad disappointing, yes, we are losing and the losses add up. Going away and getting out of my daily routine put me into a slight of a funk and it took me about 1.5 wks to shake it. I just felt uninspired and decided to try to shake things up to re-motivate and re-instill the magic of the plan.

I think the walk will do you wonders, the fresh air and sun will clear your head. Think about ways to add some spice to your week whether it's changing up your menu so it feels new, going for a manicure or treating yourself to something nice (a piece of jewelry). Sounds like you may need to do something nice for yourself. It doesn't have to be a big spend, small is fine and it could serve as a reminder of how well you've been doing on the plan, how you intend to stay focused and committed. Talk to your coach, to us and report your NSV's.

And, don't forget to SMILE :D

Sending

One WI is one data point in a big-picture downward trend-line.
Although TOM may temporarily affect what the scale days, it has ZERO to do with fat loss

The scale is just one way to measure whether or not we are losing fat. Unfortunately, the scale weighs everything: fat, lean mass, water.

Very few people get a linear weight loss. Most women get widely varying losses from one week to the next due to hormonal fluctuations. Stressing about any if this can cause an increased of cortisol, which can slow fat loss

Good morning, all! Re. feeling frustrated with the scale on so-so weeks...oh, man, have I been there! I've never had really stellar loses. Even my first week which was 4lbs compared with what others were posting. I eventually worked things through, try not to compare myself with others, and try to be grateful everyday that I am losing what I am losing. I also came to terms with the fact that my thyroid condition (Grave's disease) makes what I actually am losing that much more remarkable. Long story longer...hang in there. The frustrations will ease, I'm certain of it.

Beautiful Thanksgiving weekend in Saskatchewan. My DH and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary this past Wednesday so I'm feeling particularly thankful. He's my biggest cheerleader in the IP process.

Happy weekend, everybody!

I to had my first weigh in on TOM ans still had a nice lose, in my book any lose is a good one. Trust that the plan is working even if you don't see on the scale what you looking for, it will happen and sometimes overnight. As Lisa mentioned inches can be achieved without the scale moving. Wishing you luck on your journey and I know you can do it. It's not easy on TOM but nothing in life really is.

It is getting closer to P3 for me. This weekend will be spent shopping for ingredients to make those big P3 breakfasts, selecting recipes that will be the easiest/quickest to make, and calculating carbs, protein, fat and calories. So different than P1 and how easy that has been,

When I started IP I was so excited at the prospect of one day phasing off. Now I am petrified! I keep second guessing whether I am ready and whether I should lose more weight first. I worry I will get fat again. I see fat when I look in the mirror!

Part of my problem is that I let a friend's comments get to me. She asked, "won't you just get fat again once you start eating everything again"? I rationally said that I would not return to my old eating habits and that I have learned so much on IP. Realistically, it does worry me. Sigh....

Good morning, all! Doing a great job staying OP so far this weekend, even with out of town guests. Yay! Tried the sweet roll by Proti-Snax this morning...kinda disappointed, but tasted better with some sugar free caramel syrup drizzled on it.

Ok so is it just me or is your sense of smell heightened OP? I was about 10 feet from a little girl that was eatting chick fila on the park bench and you would have thought I was a bloodhound. At that moment I was weak and realized I am a food addict, I have been dreaming of Krispy Kreme doughnuts in my sleep. And on top of that yesterday went to the farmers market to get some veggies and there was a German pastry chief with pies, tarts and breads OMG the smell was amazing. So I told my husband if he wanted one to get it, he said dear i want do that too you, I know how hard you have been working, I could tell he was salivating, I said no this battle is mine I don't want you to have to suffer. So I made up in my mind I will no longer allow food to control me.

I know just what you mean! The other day, I got into my DH's truck and it smelled just like glazed donuts to me. I was overwhelmed with the desire to go to a bakery and buy donuts. I asked him if he had an old donut bag in there, but it was a new air freshener! I can hardly stand to ride in his truck now. The funny thing is that it doesn't bother me to go to store and smell all the delicious bakery aromas there. Weird. When I had a coach she said to just take those moments and breathe in the aroma for a second and relax. She told me that allowing myself to relax and enjoy the smell could be very satisfying. It does seem to work at times.

Update: went for the walk and it started pouring rain before I could get back. You know, sometimes you just have to laugh. Maybe it was meant to be a 'wash away the funky mood' walk? Ha!

Went to my weekly weigh-in and I'm down another 2 lbs and just over 25 lbs total since starting IP (8 weeks). Also down 3.625 inches this week with a total of almost 21 total inches gone. Yay!

I was reminded, both by my coach and by those here, weight loss isn't linear...especially for women. And, without having gone on this plan, where would I be? I'm in a much better place, even if some days are a smidge harder than others to "see" it.

Grateful for the strength to do this and for the encouragement I find daily on this site.

Happy Saturday!

PS I am so excited to see how you rock P3 dak1lls. I think about the next phases and think "scary" too but you have been so great at this so far. Onward! (To yummy breakfasts)
And, Thanks KareVT for the kind words.

I have the same worry...regaining what I've lossed petrifies me but I do have a plan I hope to stick with. Once I get to goal (not sure what that number is just yet), I will set a max weight I will let myself return to. When/if I hit that weight, I will do some kind of reboot/phase 1 to prevent from EVER even getting close to putting it all back on. This is an idea, but i haven't put it to the test yet. Hoping i can stick to it!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Willow and yes, to quote our dear friend 65, to all of our Canadian sisters and their families. And, a happy belated anniversary - 20 years is beautiful and may you have 20 more +++. You are so blessed. Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian sisters and their families this weekend!

Hi x65 - You too are a gem and I enjoy reading such beautifully written & sound pieces from you. All so genuine and you share so much valuable info. Thanks to you & Lisa and a whole slew of others, I give credit to why I continue to join in on conversations, stay committed to the plan and to myself. Thank you All and yes, I am certainly most thankful for this year!

It is getting closer to P3 for me. This weekend will be spent shopping for ingredients to make those big P3 breakfasts, selecting recipes that will be the easiest/quickest to make, and calculating carbs, protein, fat and calories. So different than P1..

Part of my problem is that I let a friend's comments get to me. She asked, "won't you just get fat again once you start eating everything again"? I rationally said that I would not return to my old eating habits and that I have learned so much on IP. Realistically, it does worry me. Sigh....

Hi dak1 - it's been awhile and I wanted to personally congratulate you for your IP success. NICE JOB! I am starting my 8th week on IP and have a ways to go but I identify with your post(s) and thank you for sharing.

Good luck as you Phase - I have faith that you will be just fine. You appear super strong and just remember all you have accomplished, WOW! I can't imagine phasing just yet, I'm definitely not ready but I will probably be nervous and turn to all of this incredible support on 3FC IP'ers for sure. I hope that when the time comes, you'll still be reporting/sharing your successes.

And, like you, I too see fat flaws when I look in the mirror but... I am trying so hard to change that manner of thinking and be kinder to myself.

SO happy that you responded to your friend in the manner you did, you better believe you are NOT returning to old habits and again, keep the faith. I think keeping goals in front of ourselves as well as remembering to take care of ourselves first will help us maintain and keep us on point. I admire your courage; keep it up!

Ok so is it just me or is your sense of smell heightened OP? I said no this battle is mine I don't want you to have to suffer. So I made up in my mind I will no longer allow food to control me.

Misstiff - You are a good person! I concur, the battle is ours however, how lovely that your husband supports you like so. I will join you in your pact and I too "will no longer allow food to control me."

Good morning all. Just checking in to see how everyone is doing and - it seems well - even Vachinyc who adjusted her attitude (I do the same all the time!)! More studying and work for me today, but I am contemplating a bike ride a little later for about 45 minutes. It will be my first time on the bike since ... well... for a long time but I feel like going out and getting some exercise and am show some solidarity for two Team in Training friends who are doing Ironman in Kona, Hawaii today. I am so proud of them and would like, someday, to do a 1/2 Ironman(woman).

Sarita: So excited for your family to see how amazing you look! Have a great time! Thanks!

I know that every 4 weeks, I will have a slower weight loss or as happened one time, an increase. I know it, doesn't mean it's always easy to accept. This last time, I was okay and didn't knock myself for it because I knew it was out of my control.

I have this worry too. I still see myself as 40lbs heavier and think that the minute I get the chance, give myself the "okay", I'll go back to the way I was before. I like to hope that I'm not going to - that I enjoy looking like this and feeling like this more than I like the food I used to eat.

Oh my, I passed a guy on the stairs at work the other day who had an order of poutine and I almost died at how good it smelled... I probably would have never noticed it before :dizzy:

Good Saturday morning all! It's a cool, windy, rainy day here - good day to hit the rink for my son's hockey practice then come home and clean up for guests tomorrow.

Friends dropped off the farm chickens I ordered last night - 10 beautiful birds in my freezer, yum! Despite the fact I'm cooking a 17lbs turkey tomorrow, I can't wait to cook a chicken, lol!

Well, off to get the hockey bag packed...

Good Morning All!

..I'm leaving for my WI in a moment and I just started TOM.

:coffee2:

My cycle definitely affects my weigh-ins and gives me much lower numbers. I've heard some people even post gains that week. I try not to be too fussed by it because there's a reason for it that doesn't have anything to do with the effort I'm putting in - still staying OP regardless!

Like others have posted today, I'm starting to learn how to look at it as a linear process, rather than week to week, which helps quite a bit!

I know that every 4 weeks, I will have a slower weight loss or as happened one time, an increase. I know it, doesn't mean it's always easy to accept. This last time, I was okay and didn't knock myself for it because I knew it was out of my control.

Well, off to get the hockey bag packed...

Jo

Hi Jo aka PurpleMomster (awesome!) - thanks for the share. Good to keep things in perspective and look at the long term; everyone is right about that. Hope you enjoy hockey, turkey and the chickens down the road.. Something tells me you are a busy woman with lots of cooking in your future - Lol ;)

Hi Lighthouse - Yes; totally a linear process, agreed and I am learning to adapt that thought process for sure. I'm with you, I will stay 100% OP regardless of what the scale reads. Have a nice day!

I truly think that at least a tiny thought like those you expressed lurks inside most of us on the program. However, let your rational, logical self guide you. You definitely (should I say "WE definitely") have the will power and the tools to succeed on this weight loss journey. There will be times in our lives on maintenance that we may put on a few pounds here or there. That's okay- we just monitor ourselves and use our tools when that happens! There is no way I could let myself put 40 plus pounds back on once I finish! If my pants get tight or the number on that scale goes up, it will be back to phase one for me!

You can do it! Congrats on your journey thus far, and best of luck on P3 and maintaining!:carrot:

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Today is a travel day back home after a full week away on business. I had some challenges but stayed 100% OP. The hardest thing to find in an airport is veggies, so if anyone has any ideas on how to get veggies while flying all day, I'd love to hear them.

Couldn't WI yesterday so I will see what the scale says when I get home.

Hi Docsaver,

One way to get veggies is to make the zucchini muffins. They are easy to carry, and will not cause any problems at security.

Other veggies that travel well are cucumbers (those small 'crunchers' ones that you can just bite, don't even have to slice), peppers (they also sell small one that don't have to be cut, just bite) or pickles (although a bit messier).

Congrats on staying OP despite the travelling!!

Happy Saturday afternoon everyone :)

Well today my stress level has come down ALOT. My parents purchased a home, dad went to pick out siding and the company told him that the house they selected would NOT have any of the ceiling finished?! WTH>???!!! It would cost an extra $20K to have the ceiling finsish --oye vey--

So dad told them he needs a house ready to move into NOW, they found him another house and knocked $5K off of it for him. SO now house #2 is confirmed and will be delivered by or before thanksgiving **phew**

Since they got what they could from the ins. things are moving slowly along.

And I did loose that extra 0.2lbs I gained and an extra ROFL. So I am 217 even :carrot::carrot:

Breathe honey! The stress is making you hold water...you are probably burning more..much more than the scale will show for another week or longer!

Hope it all continues to unfold in a manner that is at least tolerable. The whole thing stinks. You and they are real troopers...blessings and good thoughts to get it all settled...and allow healing and getting on with what matters now.

I am taking deep breaths today. Yesterday I was a sobbing bawling mess- ok all week :(

BUT talking to my dad today made me feel better much better. Next weekend we are going down for a visit, so we can just try to have fun LOL.

Pick out appliances ect. I hope to drop 2 or 3 lbs this week by Friday. My stress will be over when the house is brought in on the foundation and they are moved back in!!!

Good!! It's really hard when things happen and you feel like you want..or need "to parent" your parents! It's probably pay back for all they put up with raising us through our teen years! {LOL...Now my kids have to worry about paying me back....(second daughter was "difficult"...and I'm being nice in describing her!}

Hello again! Just home from my first official exercise since starting IP in May. Cycled 8.2 to the beach and back and felt awesome. I have been missing exercise in my life soooooooo much that I decided all the stress from studying and such was counterproductive. So I went through all my exercise clothes, added the ones that don't fit to the GW pile and put on my bike shorts and still sort of fit, some rainbow socks and jumped on my bike. I think I had a grin on my face from ear to ear coasting down to the shore. I spent some time there, watching the waves on the cold beach, enjoying the fall chill and thinking about my friends doing Ironman. Then pedaled home, uphill.

It was truly amazing. Easier with 60# less on my body and bike. I had a little headache, but think it might be due to the cold air and speed/vibrations. Time for a shower and then back to the books.

Be well all!

Good Evening friends! Okay, so I'm not very sophisticated when it comes to using "quotes" from other posts. So, until I learn how to do it, I will just have to try to remember what everyone has said so far, and thank everyone for their encouragement and advice. If I don't respond to a comment, it's because I'm still learning how to navigate this forum!! sarahBell  hugs to you! you have been put thru the ringer lately, but you have lots of support.

Today was day 4. THE HARDEST DAY YET. Headaches, hungry like you would not BELIEVE. I woke up last night at midnight and had a hunger emergency - so I had one packet of pudding. Then this afternoon I was ravenous so I had more pudding (in addition to the 3 packets I'm supposed to have.) I hope this is not cheating (to have extra packets) but I think I heard somewhere that for the first few days, it's okay.

This wkend has been crazy for me- DH went on his annual hunting trip so I'm going on 72 hours straight w/o backup help for the kids :dizzy: ! Lisa I am inspired by your confidence to go out to eat OP. Thanks for the good example - it IS possible to stay OP and go to restaurants. I was nervous to do it, but had to get out of the house and entertain the kiddos. Yesterday I went to chuck e cheese, had the salad/lettuce/cukes/mushrooms/no dressing, and then today went to Panera bread and had a classic salad (romaine, cukes, tomatoes no dressing) while the kids had PBJ sandwiches. Each time I turn down an off-limit food, I feel my resistance muscles getting stronger. Physically, I may feel like crap today, but I feel pretty good mentally about my food choices. :broc: wishing everyone a great weekend.

Question, I'm not a huge spicy fan, found a recipe for a Bubble Bread, ( not for me) DH and others would like. It calls for sliced jalapenos, could I substitute canned sliced chilies instead?

The canned sliced chilies that I have had did not have any real heat. Also, make sure they not in vinegar which might taste a little weird.

Thanks ladies for all the good thoughts towards my impending reunion. My hubby is a man of very few words, so I am trying not to expect too much. Am hoping it shows in his face!
*** Sarita you maked me wish I still owned a bike.

I am sure that it will show on his face. Looking forward for you to reuniting!

You should see about getting a used bike of craigslist or something similar. There is something so "straight back to your youth" about riding a bike. I love it.

As I cleaned more clothes out of my closet, I had that nasty urge to hang onto these clothes...I have started making a size 12 stack to get out of the house. I did a bit of cleaning out today as well and it is hard to get rid of the clothing. I am actually hanging onto some clothing "just in case" - but it is going into a box and into the garage. It is my sincere hope that it will simply get donated.

Hang tough! I remember Day 4 being rough. I wanted to be active and such, but I was a wreck. I remember taking a walk and could only focus on being in the shade. I couldn't stand to be in the sun and, in SF, we don't get that much sun that it should be a problem. Alas. It gets better, trust me. Just make sure to get your salt, your water, and get time and space to adjust. Stay strong!

Popping in to say hello! It is Thanksgiving weekend and I am visiting my brother's family.

This is is my second 'big' trip away from home while on IP. I am using a modified version of my first 'Rainbow Smiles Ideal Protein Road Kit' (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/ideal-protein-diet/270956-make-your-own-ideal-protein-travel-survival-kit-bag.html) I picked up a really nice diaper bag at Walmart and find that the extra room with all the little compartments are really ideal for helping me keep organized.

Going out to purchase some carbonated spring water today and then I'll be set for navigating the big meal!

So much to be grateful for. Carrying all of you with me in spirit as we are moving towards better health!

Happy Sunday !!! Off to Newport RI for a saloon stroll with friends this afternoon, it will be tough to stay OP but going to do my best! Right now off to iron and fold clothes, gag, the Sunday morning chores for me every week!

Congrats to all the scale movers and the NSV's.

You are going to look charming with your smaller self...

ps. Last week I asked my clinic whether we could get the ip videos. I thought I might have to pay extra. But they are free to the clinic from the IP company (used to have to pay) and so I was immediately signed on.

For newbies, Ask for this service if you are not getting it. One of the first videos explains the principles behind ketosis -- the physiological state that is created in the body when one carefully follows the Ideal Protein guidelines. I happened to see another video about ketosis before starting out on this programme and I am glad I did. Understanding it's dynamics and what it takes to get into it (and fallout of it) have been one of the keys to success on the programme. Once you understand ketosis, you come to treasure it like a precious gift.

Good morning, peeps! Back home from a week long business trip. It feels so nice to sleep in my own bed. WI #3 this morning and down another 3.7 pounds! I've made it to the 160's and I'm really proud. Total loss after three weeks: 11.6 pounds.

Both my mom and mother in law are coming to visit this week. I'm busy getting my house ready and will do a big grocery shop.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Annik

I just packed up my insulated lunch bag for Thanksgiving! :) We're going to my sil's for a mid-afternoon meal with the entire family. I'm looking forward to the turkey and have packed a snack to tide me over till 2pm, a blop of the RTD vanilla shake for coffee, my supplements, and a pudding just in case. Oh, and my beloved cauliflower. I feel pretty focused. And you're right....there is SO much to be grateful for.

It's nice and sunny just north of you so here's hoping that rain is gone away!

Happy Sunday all! Just having some coffee before starting to plan what needs to go into the oven when. The 17lb turkey needs to go in around 11:30 and I think I'll cook the potatoes ahead of time then keep them warm in the crockpot. Oh and the cauli mash for me!

At least it's a nice day so everyone can head out onto the deck if they want and enjoy the sunshine.

Have a great IP day!

65x65 and dak1lls Thank you, I am liking the size 6 jeans...... bought one pair at Macys on sale and then a couple others just like them on ebay! New with tags, for $20with free shipping! Gotta love ebay! I paid twice that at Macys. Its windy, chilly only about 60 but feels like 50, no sun :(
But one of the couples bought a house 1/2 mile from Thames St, the waterfront, so we will get alot of walking in today.

I've got chicken chow mein on the stove for DH and I'm having some home made veggie soup with sytrax unflavored protein powder in it, mmmmmmmm its better than the protidiet minestrone. Thank you Lisa for that cooking tip!! Love the support and ideas here!:)

Thanks! Yup, I'm feeling pretty good about myself, DH has noticed the happier me too. I love Newport but not so much in the summer with the tourists. A year ago I was there with my parents and my 24 yr old son, doing the saloon/appetizer stroll. We saw 5 Lamborghini's throughout our walk, my son said he had never seen one never mind 5 in one day. I laughed, and said " baby you are in the land of the rich and famous"! DH works in Newport and we don't go much, I work on Cape Cod and we don't visit there much either.......LOL.

I hope you feel better, chilling by the fire sounds good too!!

Thanks again to everyone who messaged me regarding being fired by my coach.

I just made my first order to Nashua Nutrition for foods, the Protidiet foods are sooo much cheaper than IP, I picked through them carefully to make sure I wasnt buying restricted foods.

Anyhow, I can get through this program either on my own with all the great advice and ideas here, but I will take the suggestions of seeing if I can transfer to another clinic for a small fee or no fee preferably!

Good afternoon ladies!
I realized that today marks an entire month of being on IP, and though there have been moments where I didn't know if I could keep going, I have watched as the scale slowly decreases, and I keep feeling a little looser in my clothes (But no size drop yet), and I think to myself of how proud I am of myself for being able to stick with this, even while being in the stressful college life I'm living!
I'm very grateful for all of you for the support and for the advice and useful information I can search through to help me through this program!
I hope everyone has a marvelous upcoming week!

I know i am not alone with a sweet tooth the size of a mammoth tusk!

This is my down fall and trying to beat it is like chasing the preverbal tail. Chewing gum helps and cinnamon in my tea does too, but sometimes it lifts its ugly head and it is a BATTLE!

I do not like fried-greasy food, fast food any of that BUT sweets YES!

How have you all killed the sweet tooth monster?

Ha, I wish mine was dead! He is just tamed. I find my restricteds really help in this area. To me, they are light a treat every evening! I also enjoy the cereals (from Nashua) some mornings. They have a slight sweetness and a great crunch! I eat them dry on my way to work.

Good luck taming your monster!

Restricteds help me too, like the bars or the chocolate soy puffs. Even the chocolate drink is nice to feel like I am getting dessert - make it into cookies or the chocolate mug cake. I also find if I have eaten all my packets for the day and am still craving sweets or feeling hungry that brushing my teeth helps.

sarahbell you are going to do great in your second month you can do this! Most days all three of my packets would be sweet. Blueberry cran drink or chocolate EAS for breakfast, restricted bar for lunch and ready made chocolate pudding for snack, seemed to help more than if I had any savory packets. That way I always had something sweet to look forward to.

My daughter, who started me on this program, gave me a recipe where you take 3 egg whites, beat them til foamy, add 1/4t cream of tartar, beat till shiny and stiff. Fold in packet of berry yogurt smoothie mix (you can actually use any flavor and you could probably experiment with drink mixes).

Pipe it or form it into pretty mounds, put in 250-300 degree oven for about 40 minutes, checking for very very slight brown edge. You can eat it all as one packet, I think is what she said.

Hi RN,
I also use alternatives and started after my clinic lost my second food order. They were just getting started and everything was so chaotic, so I just immersed myself in the information in the stickies on alternatives and have never looked back. This was my second time on IP and my first time I used only IP branded products. I lost an identical amount of weight for the first 2 months using alternatives. I look forward to reading about your success!

Happy Thanksgiving my fellow Canadian IPers!
I just came back from a lovely weekend in Boston, what a beautiful city. Stayed 99% OP and in ketosis the whole time, feeling proud because I would not have stayed on track in the past.

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Today is a travel day back home after a full week away on business. I had some challenges but stayed 100% OP. The hardest thing to find in an airport is veggies, so if anyone has any ideas on how to get veggies while flying all day, I'd love to hear them.

I was on business travel all summer and gave up trying to find veggies at the airport. I bring cukes and peppers as both travel well. I also bring bags of raw spinach to munch on. My real lifesaver is the small food processor I bought from GNC to make spinach shakes. Unless I have an early morning flight (I don't want to make too much noise in the hotel at an early hour), I make a shake and drink it on the way to the airport.
